ELECTED OFFICIAL IN STODDARD COUNTY TAKEN INTO CUSTODY, PROSECUTOR SEEKING HER REMOVAL FROM OFFICE 

An elected official in Stoddard County has been taken into custody and the county prosecutor says he is seeking her removal from office.  

Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Russell Oliver tells KWOC News that on Monday, the elected board of directors and the elected clerk of Castor Township in Stoddard County presented him with financial documents which indicated misappropriation of funds by the township’s elected Trustee, ex Office Treasurer, Jacqulin Bradshaw. 

Oliver says that Bradshaw has been charged with the class D felony of stealing; alleging that she wrongfully appropriated over $16,000 of township funds. 

During an interview, Bradshaw allegedly admitted to appropriating the funds without authorization. 

A judge has issued a preliminary order enjoining Bradshaw from engaging in any activity or exercising any authority as the elected Trustee, ex Office Treasurer of Castor Township and Oliver has filed a petition seeking her removal from the office.

TEENGAER SERIOUSLY INJURED IN WRECK NEAR WARDELL

Authorities in Pemiscot County say that a teenager was seriously injured in a wreck Wednesday night.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, two vehicles were stationary on Route K, in the Wardell area, when one of the vehicles was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The incident occurred shortly before 9 pm.

The 16 year old driver of one of the stationary vehicles suffered serious injuries and was transported to a Hayti hospital.

The driver of the oncoming vehicle received minor injuries.

 

BUTLER COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT REMINDING PARENTS ABOUT THEIR CHILDREN’S BACK TO SCHOOL VACCINATIONS

The Butler County Health Department is reminding parents about the vaccines for children program.

According to the Health Department, if you do not have health insurance, your health insurance policy does not cover all recommended childhood vaccines, or if your child is covered under Medicaid he or she is eligible to receive their back to school vaccinations through the program.

Officials with the Health Department say that no appointments are necessary and walk ins are welcome. The Butler County Health Department is open 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday.

 

LILBOURN MAN SENTENCED ON FIREARM AND ATTEMPTED CARJACKING CHARGES

A Lilbourn man has been sentenced in connection to an attempted carjacking in 2015.

Officials with the United States Attorney’s Office tell KWOC News that 34 year old Justin Perry was sentenced Wednesday to 147 months on one felony count of felon in possession of a firearm, one felony count of attempted carjacking, and one felony count of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

The charges stem from an incident in December 2015 where Perry took a pistol from a truck, pointed the pistol at the owner, and demanded the keys to the truck.

Officials say that Perry has previous convictions for stealing a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and driving while intoxicated.

 

DRIVERS REMINDED TO BE AWARE OF CHANGING TRAFFIC PATTERNS WITH SCHOOL STARTING

August is here and drivers across Southeast Missouri are being reminded that with many schools starting soon, traffic patterns are going to change.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the changes will be due to school buses and parents taking their children to school joining other motorists on the road and affecting the morning and afternoon commutes.

Whatever route you drive, expect this additional traffic and prepare by allowing extra time to reach your destination.

Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about riding a bus, walking, or driving to school in a safe manner. Last year, five people were killed and 401 people were injured in 869 traffic crashes involving school buses.

When you see a stopped school bus, remember to stay alert as children may not be aware of traffic and dart unexpectedly into the roadway.

If your child rides a bike, make sure they wear a helmet and follow traffic laws.

 

DATE SET FOR THIRD ANNUAL RUN 4 THE ARTS

A date has been set for the third annual Run 4 the Arts hosted by Three Rivers College and the Three Rivers Endowment Trust.

The four-mile run or walk along with a one-mile walk will be held at 9 am on Saturday, September 8th at the College’s Poplar Bluff Campus.

The entry fee for individual runners is $20 and everyone registered by August 17th are guaranteed a T-shirt.

Money from the event will go to funding an endowed scholarship held by the Three Rivers Endowment Trust for music and art students.

ARKANSAS MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO BUTLER COUNTY WRECK 

An Arkansas man has been taken into custody in Butler County following a wreck that closed an area off ramp.  

A wreck caused the closure a Highway 60/67 off ramp in the Poplar Bluff area for a period of time on Tuesday. The ramp has since reopened. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 50 year old Ronald Stewart, of Dumas, Arkansas, was arrested Tuesday evening on a felony charge of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident. He was held at the Butler County Jail.

BACK TO SCHOOL FAIR SCHEDULED FOR TODAY AT TWIN RIVERS HIGH SCHOOL

The new school year is rapidly approaching and an event will be held next week to help students in the Twin Rivers School District get prepared.

A back to school fair is scheduled for 1 to 7 pm today at the Twin Rivers High School Gym.

Officials say that the fair, for Twin Rivers students in Kindergarten through 12th grade, will feature free school supplies, haircuts, sports physicals, and more.

Royal Registration is scheduled August 7th from 1 to 7 pm at Twin Rivers High School.

 

POPLAR BLUFF FOOTBALL TEAM TO HOST PUBLIC SCRIMMIAGE

Area residents will get a chance to have their first look at this seasons Poplar Bluff Mules Football team next week.

According to new Head Coach Dave Sievers, the scrimmage will be held August 11th from 9:30 am to 11 am and will be open to the public. 

The Mules Booster Club will be providing lunch for the players following the scrimmage.

The Mules varsity season will kick off on August 24th at home against the Sumner Bulldogs. You can hear every Mules football game this season on Today’s Talk KWOC.

 

ONE KILLED IN SHANNON COUNTY WRECK

One person has died from injuries he received in a motorcycle wreck in Shannon County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred early Tuesday morning on Highway 60 near Birch Tree.

A vehicle reportedly pulled into the path of an oncoming motorcycle, resulting in a collision.

The driver of the motorcycle, 60 year old James Bradford, of Summersville, was ejected from his vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene.

 

WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT HABITAT WORKSHOP TO BE HELD NEXT WEEK IN DONIPHAN

The Missouri Department of Conservation has scheduled a wildlife management habitat workshop for next week in Doniphan.

The workshop will be hosted by the Department of Conservation, the University of Missouri Extension, and the Quality Deer Management Association from 6 to 8 pm on August 9th at First Baptist Church.

During the workshop landowners will learn how to manage woodlands and grasslands to increase native plant diversity, which will increase the quality of wildlife habitat on the entire property. Landowners will also learn about financial assistance available to those who install wildlife management practices.

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR ADULT FALL SOFTBALL LEAGUE IN POPLAR BLUFF

Registration is now open for the adult fall softball league in Poplar Bluff.

Officials with Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation say that there will be a men's league and a coed league if four or more teams register.

Team registration is being accepted through August 10th and officials say that the fees will be determined by the number of teams and the number of games to be played.

MISSOURI ATTORNEY GENERAL FILES LAWSUIT AGAINST THE OFFSETS IN MADISON COUNTY 

The Missouri Attorney General has filed a lawsuit following the deaths of two people this month.  

Attorney General Josh Hawley tells KWOC News that his office has filed a lawsuit seeking to compel a commercial enterprise in Madison County known as “The Offsets” to remedy deadly conditions at the former quarry. 

The recreational facility has been the site of at least 9 deaths, including two since July 4th this year as well as numerous other serious bodily injuries. 

Hawley says that despite their knowledge of these conditions and the resulting serious injuries, the owners of The Offsets have not posted appropriate warnings, have not taken steps to prevent dangerous activities, have not placed life-saving equipment near the bluffs, and have not retained a lifeguard.

VICTIM HITS ATTEMPTED BURGLAR WITH A BASEBALL BAT

A victim reportedly hit an attempted burglar with a baseball bat in Kennett.

According to the Kennett Police Department, early Sunday morning officers were dispatched to an area residence in reference to a burglary in progress.

Officers learned that the victim returned home to find a male inside of his residence. The victim told officers that an altercation took place during which he struck the suspect in the head with a baseball bat. The suspect then fled on foot.

Officials say the incident is under investigation.

 

GRAND OPENING TO BE HELD TODAY FOR WOMEN’S HEALTH CLINIC AT JOHN J PERSHING VA MEDICAL CENTER

A grand opening will be held today for the Women’s Health Clinic at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

The event is scheduled from 3 to 6 pm on the 1st floor of the medical center beginning with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

There are tours and a women’s health presentation scheduled for the event as well.

AUTHORITIES IN KENNETT INVESTIGATING ATTEMPTED ARSON

An investigation is underway into an attempted arson in Kennett.

According to the Kennett Police Department, early Sunday morning someone used a flammable substance in an attempt to ignite a residence on fire on West Harrison Street.

Officials say the fire was extinguished, leaving only minor damage.

No suspects have been identified in connection to the case and the incident is under investigation.

 

DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE FELONY DRUG CHARGES

Authorities in Stoddard County have arrested an area man on multiple felony drug charges.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 39 year old Phillip Cook, of Dexter, was taken into custody Monday morning on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute – methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance for methamphetamine and clonazepam, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following the arrest, Cook was held in the Stoddard County Jail.

 

BUTLER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT PARTICIPATES IN LIP SYNC CHALLENGE

A Southeast Missouri sheriff’s department has put forth their entry into the Lip Sync Challenge.

Multiple law enforcement agencies across the country have posted videos online featuring officers and staff lip syncing to music as a part of the challenge.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Department is one of the latest agencies to join in on the fun. Late last week Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs posted the over five minute video featuring members of the Sheriff’s Department lip syncing to Elvis Presley’s “In the Gheto” and “Blaze of Glory” by Jon Bon Jovi.

MAN FACING MULTIPLE CHARGES IN CONNECTION TO FATAL BOAT WRECK 

A Dexter man is facing multiple counts of boating while intoxicated in connection to a fatal boat wreck in early June.  

According to Missouri Case Net, 27 year old Braden Bollinger is facing one count of boating while intoxicated – death of another, two counts of boating while intoxicated – serious physical injury, and two counts of boating while intoxicated – physical injury.  

Bollinger was involved in a boat wreck on June 3rd that resulted in the death of a Poplar Bluff teenager and injuries to four others as well as himself.  

Bollinger’s bond was set at $100,000, cash or surety.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN FACING METH AND MARIJUANA CHARGES FOLLOWING ARREST IN BUTLER COUNTY

A Poplar Bluff man is facing drug related charges following his arrest last week in Butler County.

According to authorities, 36 year old Justin Livingston was taken into custody Thursday night on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Livingston is also facing charges of possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

SCHOOL READINESS EVENT TO BE HELD NEXT WEEK IN BUTLER COUNTY

A School Readiness event has been scheduled for next week in Butler County.

The event will be held from 9 am to 3 pm on Thursday, August 9th at the Black River Coliseum.

Children registered for the event can receive free age appropriate school supplies, including backpacks, paper, folders, and pencils. Health Screenings will also be completed for attending children.

HEPATITIS A VACCINATION CLINIC SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK IN MARMADUKE

Officials in Northeast Arkansas say there will be a Hepatitis A vaccination clinic later this week.

According to the Marmaduke Police Department, the clinic, for ages 19 through 60 years old, is scheduled for noon to 8 pm this Thursday at the Marmaduke City Hall.

WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN BUTLER COUNTY ON MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES

Authorities in Butler County have arrested an area woman on multiple felony charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 33 year old Jennifer Johnson, of Poplar Bluff, was taken into custody Friday night on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance for methamphetamine and hydrocodone.

Following the arrest, Johnson was held at the Butler County Jail.

 

ONE INJURED IN MOTORCYCLE WRECK NEAR DONIPHAN

One person was flown to a St. Louis hospital following a wreck over the weekend in Ripley County.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the wreck occurred at around 3:30 pm Saturday afternoon on Missouri Highway 142 near Doniphan.

A vehicle reportedly failed to yield and turned into the path of a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle, 50 year old Claire Hagg, of Lincoln, Nebraska, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a St. Louis hospital.

TWO KENTUCKY RESIDENTS INJURED IN CARTER COUNTY WRECK

Two Kentucky residents were injured in a motorcycle wreck Thursday afternoon in Carter County. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred shortly before 1 pm on US Highway 60 in the Fremont area. 

TWO KENTUCKY RESIDENTS INJURED IN CARTER COUNTY WRECK

Two Kentucky residents were injured in a motorcycle wreck Thursday afternoon in Carter County. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred shortly before 1 pm on US Highway 60 in the Fremont area. 

Two people on the motorcycle, both of Central City, Kentucky, received moderate injuries and were transported to area hospitals. 


AUTHORITIES IN DONIPHAN WARNING BUSINESSES TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR FAKE MONEY

Authorities in a Southeast Missouri community are warning area businesses to be on the lookout for fake money. 

Officials with the Doniphan Police Department tell KWOC news that they have received several reports of counterfeit bills. They are urging businesses and individuals to be extra careful when accepting cash. 

If you have any question if a bill is genuine, you can have it checked at a local bank or the Doniphan Police Department.

The Doniphan Police Department also says that a boil water notice that had been in effect for parts of the city has been lifted. 


4-H CSI MYSTERY CAMP SCHEDULED FOR EARLY AUGUST IN POPLAR BLUFF

Area parents can get their children registered to participate in an upcoming 4-H Mystery Camp. 

Kid detectives are wanted for the 4-H CSI Mystery Camp on August 7th. The event will be held from 9 am to 3:30 pm at Living Word Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. 

Kids 8 to 18 can sign up and the cost is $25 for 4-H members at $45 for non-members. The registration deadline is August 1st.

THREE RIVERS COLLEGE TO OFFER HISET TEST IN DEXTER

Three Rivers College will be offering a High School equivalency test in September. 

The HiSET High School Equivalency Test will be offered at the college’s Dexter location on Saturday, September 15th, from 8 am until 4 pm.

The HiSET is an online test that covers writing, essay, math, science, social studies, and reading. 

Those interested in taking the test should go to hiset.ets.org to register, pay, and schedule the test. The registration period for the test will close on September 13th.

The South Central Missouri Community Action Agency will be holding a school readiness event this weekend in Carter County. 

The event is scheduled for 10 am to 2 pm Saturday at the East Carter County FEMA Room in Ellsinore. 

The event will feature many different organizations in the community with services for low income families. 

Children registered for the event can receive free age appropriate school supplies, including backpacks, paper, folders, and pencils. Health Screenings will also be completed for the children.

A Poplar Bluff church will be hosting a Back to School Bash this weekend. 

The event will be held on Saturday at the Southside Assembly of God on Midland Street. 

Registration will begin at 4:30 pm with the bash starting at 5 pm. Officials say the first 100 visitors will get a free backpack. 

The church will also be hosting a school supply give away at 10:30 am on Sunday, July 29th.

TWO ELDERLY BUTLER COUNTY RESIDENTS FOUND DEAD 

Two elderly Butler County residents were found dead Wednesday in what is believed to be a murder/suicide.  

Butler County Coroner Andy Moore tells KWOC News that the two bodies were found Wednesday in the Oglesville area.

Last night at approximately 5:30 p.m. the Butler County Coroner's Office was dispatched to Oglesville in reference to a possible murder-suicide. Upon arrival Deputy Corner Corey Crutchfield and myself pronounced two individuals as deceased at the scene. Both died as a result of gunshot wounds and all indications are the female's life was taken first and the male took his life shortly after the initial incident. The deceased are identified as Elvin and Onedia Johnson, both 84 of Oglesville.

NAYLOR UNDER BOIL WATER DUE TO BORKEN WATER MAIN

A broken water main has caused a Southeast Missouri community to be placed under a boil water order.

Officials say that the city of Naylor is under the order until further notice.

Naylor residents are advised to boil their water for five minutes before drinking it or using it to cook with. It is safe to wash clothes and dishes as well as take baths and showers.

 

ATHLETE PHYSICALS SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT IN POPLAR BLUFF

Poplar Bluff High School and Junior High student athletes can get a free physical done tonight at the High School.

Physicals will be conducted beginning at 5:30 pm on Thursday, July 26th for athletes in the 7th and 8th grades, beginning at 6:30 for 9th and 10th grades, and beginning at 7:30 for 11th and 12th grades.

The first practice day for high school athletes is set for Monday, August 6th. Junior High athletes will follow a week later, on Monday, August 13th.

 

REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FORUM SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT IN POPLAR BLUFF

Many area Republicans who will be competing in the upcoming primary election will be speaking tonight in Poplar Bluff.

The Butler County Republican Candidate Forum is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 pm tonight at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center.

The event is free and open to the public. KWOC will also be broadcasting the event beginning at 6:20 pm over the radio at 93.3 FM and 930 AM as well as on the KWOC Facebook page.

 

MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY DRUG CHARGE IN WAYNE COUNTY

A Missouri man is facing a felony marijuana charge following his arrest last night in Wayne County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 45 year old Sammy Ray, of Bismarck, was arrested Wednesday night on a felony charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Ray was also taken into custody on a charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Missouri Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, August 7th. 

 

TWO ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY FOR FAILURE TO REGISTER AS A SEX OFFENDER

Two people have been taken into custody in Stoddard County for allegedly failing to register as sex offenders.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 54 year old John Haas, of Bloomfield, and 51 year old Rebecca Edwards, of Advance, were each recently arrested on warrants for failure to register as a sex offender.

Haas was also arrested on a warrant for harassment 1st degree.

Haas’s bond was set at $25,000, while Edwards bond was set at $3,500 and officials say both remained in jail as of this morning.

AUTHORITIES IN PORTAGEVILLE INVESTIGATING ASSAULT 

A Southeast Missouri Police Department is asking local residents for assistance in an assault investigation.  

The Portageville Police Department is investigating an assault that reportedly occurred Monday morning at around 11 am in the area of the 900 block of West State Highway 162.  

Police officials are asking for any resident that has a surveillance camera on their home on St. Anthony or Robin Lane to contact the police department. Officials are also seeking any possible witnesses to this incident.

A Southeast Missouri Police Department is asking local residents for assistance in an assault investigation.

The Portageville Police Department is investigating an assault that reportedly occurred Monday morning at around 11 am in the area of the 900 block of West State Highway 162.

Police officials are asking for any resident that has a surveillance camera on their home on St. Anthony or Robin Lane to contact the police department. Officials are also seeking any possible witnesses to this incident.

PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER NOTICE ISSUED FOR PARTS OF DONIPHAN

Some residents of Doniphan are being asked to boil their water.

According to the Doniphan Police Department, a precautionary boil water notice has been issued for residents of Brooks Street, north to Summit Street and from Lafayette Street, west to Miller Street.

The notice is also for residents of Alma Street, east to the city limits and from East Locust Street, north to Barbara Avenue.

BUTLER COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS

Route Z in Butler County will be closed today and tomorrow as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

The section of route Z to be closed is located from County Road 569 to Route B.

Work will take place from 7 am to 6 pm both days. During the repairs, the road will be open to local traffic only.

 

OHIO MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY CHARGE IN STODDARD COUNTY

An Ohio man has been taken into custody in Stoddard County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 40 year old Christopher Adamson, of West Salem, Ohio, was arrested Tuesday morning on a felony charge of endangering a correctional employee by knowingly causing a person to come in contact with bodily fluids.

Adamson is also facing charges of driving while intoxicated – prior offender and operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manor.

Officials say that Adamson was held in the Stoddard County Jail.

 

MUSHROOM HUNTING PROGRAM TO BE HELD THIS WEEKEND BY THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS

Anyone interested in hunting mushrooms is being invited to attend a program this weekend hosted by the Wappapello Lake US Army Corps of Engineers.

The program, “Mushroom Hunting 101: Introduction to Basic Foraging” will be held at 11 am and 2 pm on Saturday at the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center.

Attendees will learn what mushrooms are available in our area and how to keep yourself safe by avoiding toxic lookalikes.

 

DATE SET FOR 21ST ANNUAL BUTLER COUNTY JOB FAIR

A date has been set for the 21st annual Butler County Job Fair.

According to the Butler County Community Resource Council, the job fair will be held from 10 am to 3 pm on Friday, August 24th at the Bess Activity Center on the campus of Three Rivers College.

Officials say that booth space is free to employers and advance registration is required. There will be 50 booth spaces available on a first come, first served basis.

MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING POPLAR BLUFF SHOOTING PLEADS NOT GUILTY 

A man appeared in court yesterday in connection to the shooting of a Poplar Bluff officer.  

28 year old James Johnson Jr., of Poplar Bluff, was arrested last Thursday after a Poplar Bluff Police Detective and a Task Force Officer with the US Marshals Service were shot while attempting to make an arrest for an active warrant.  

The detective received a non-life threatening wound and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The Task Force Officer was struck in his body armor, but had no additional injuries. 

According to Missouri Case Net, Johnson is facing charges of assault 1st degree, resisting or interfering with an arrest for a felony, and armed criminal action.   

Johnson’s arraignment was scheduled for yesterday and he pled not guilty.

DONIPHAN WOMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK

Two Doniphan residents were injured in a wreck late Sunday night in Ripley County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred at around 11:30 pm Sunday on Route K, approximately nine miles north of Doniphan.

A vehicle, driven by 24 year old Stephanie Tennison, reportedly overcorrected and overturned multiple times.

Tennison suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital. A passenger in the vehicle suffered moderate injuries.

 

BACK TO SCHOOL FAIR SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEK AT TWIN RIVERS HIGH SCHOOL

The new school year is rapidly approaching and an event will be held next week to help students in the Twin Rivers School District get ready.

A back to school fair is scheduled for 1 to 7 pm on Wednesday, August 1st at the Twin Rivers High School Gym.

Officials say that the fair, for Twin Rivers students in Kindergarten through 12th grade, will feature free school supplies, haircuts, sports physicals, and more.

 

MISSING MAN FOUND DEAD IN RIPLEY COUNTY

A man who was reported missing last week has been found dead.

According to authorities, the body of Bruce Ehrenberg was found on Friday in Ripley County and his death is believed to have been a homicide.

Ehrenberg was reported missing on July 15th. An investigation into the death is ongoing.

 

CONVICTED FELON TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER BEING FOUND IN POSSESSION OF FIREARM

Officials in Kennett say that an area man was arrested over the weekend on an active warrant.

According to the Kennett Police Department, officers arrested 32 year old Brian Bogard, of Kennett, Sunday morning on an active state of Missouri warrant.

During the arrest, officers located a firearm on Bogard’s person. Authorities say that Bogard is a convicted felon and was also arrested at that point for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Following the arrest, Bogard was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center.

 

HEPATITIS A VACCINATION CLINIC SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK IN GREENE COUNTY

Residents in Greene County, Arkansas will have a chance to get vaccinated for Hepatitis A later this week.

According to the Arkansas Department of Health, Hepatitis A vaccination clinics will be held from 7 am to 7 pm on Thursday and Friday at the Greene County Health Unit and Eastside Baptist Church in Paragould.

The clinics are for all Greene County residents ages 20 to 60.

OVER FOUR MONTH LONG BRIDGE PROJECT UNDERWAY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

Route P in New Madrid County will be closed for over four months as contractor crews perform two bridge replacements.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway is located between Route BB and Route V. The two bridges being replaced are over Maple Slough ditch and St. John’s ditch.

Weather permitting, Route P is schedule to re-open on Friday, December 7th.

MAN DROWNS WHILE SWIMMING IN WAPPAPELLO LAKE 

An area man died over the weekend while swimming in Wappapello Lake.  

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 59 year old Randall Scott, of Wappapello, became fatigued while swimming on Saturday, went under the water, and never resurfaced.  

A search was conducted and Scott’s body was found on Sunday.

MAN WANTED FOR CARTER COUNTY HOMICIDE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

Updating a story we brought to you last week, a suspect in a Carter County Homicide has been taken into custody.

Carter County Sheriff Richard Stephens tells KWOC News that 44 year old Jason Roberts, of Ellsinore, was arrested Friday night without incident.

Roberts was wanted in connection to the shooting death of 34 year old Rudy Hernandez, of Ellsinore, who was found dead last week.

Roberts is facing charges of murder 1st degree and armed criminal action and was transported to the Butler County Jail. Stephens says that bond has been set at one million dollars.

 

CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN TODAY ON POPLAR BLUFF INDUSTRIAL PARK OVERPASS PROJECT

Construction is set to begin today on an overpass project in the Poplar Bluff Industrial Park.

According to the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission, groundbreaking was held Friday for the Industrial Park Railroad Overpass at the intersection of Cravens Road and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.

 

BUTLER COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED EARLY THIS WEEK FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS

Route F in Butler County will be closed early this week so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform pavement repairs.

The section of roadway to be closed is located from Route 160 to County Road 459.

Work will take place today and tomorrow from 7 am to 6 pm each day. The road will be open to local traffic only.

 

MINOR DIES AFTER FALLING OUT OF THE BED OF A TRUCK

A female minor was killed in an incident early Saturday morning in Northeast Arkansas.

According to the Arkansas State Police, the minor was in the bed of a truck in Randolph County when she fell out on Mason Road.

Authorities say the incident occurred at around 1:10 am Saturday.

The minor, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene by Randolph County Coroner Rhonda McCann.

 

DONIPHAN TEENAGER SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK

A Doniphan teenager was seriously injured Friday afternoon in a single vehicle wreck.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol 43 year old Ronald Miles, of Birch Tree, was driving on Highway E in Shannon County when his vehicle ran off the side of the roadway and overturned.

An 18 year old passenger in the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was flown to a Cape Girardeau hospital.

Miles suffered minor injuries and was transported to a West Plains hospital.

 

DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE WARRANT

Officials in Stoddard County say that an area man has been taken into custody on a controlled substance warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 50 year old Jesse Barnes, of Dexter was recently arrested on a warrant for delivery of a controlled substance.

Officials say that Barnes bond was set at $25,000, cash only.

 

WORK SET TO BEGIN TODAY ON REPLACEMENT FOR WAYNE COUNTY BRIDGE

An over four month long bridge project is beginning this morning in Wayne County.

Officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation tell KWOC News that as contractor crews replace the U.S. Route 67 Bridge over Cedar Creek, traffic will be shifted to run head-to-head in the southbound lanes with a 10-foot width restriction.

The area is located between Outer Road 67 and Route EE, near Coldwater.

Officials say the project is anticipated to be completed by 6 pm on Monday, December 3rd.

POPLAR BLUFF DETECTIVE SHOT WHILE ON DUTY, WOUNDS ARE NOT LIFE THREATENING

A Poplar Bluff detective was shot while on duty Thursday.

Officers entered the apartment, at which point the suspect opened fire. Poplar Bluff Police Detective Corey Mitchell received a non-life threatening wound and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. A Task Force Officer with the US Marshals Service was struck in his body armor, but had no additional injuries.

After the initial shooting, the suspect barricaded himself, along with a female associate, in a bedroom of the apartment. After a short standoff, 28 year old James Johnson Jr., of Poplar Bluff, surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

According to Missouri Case Net, Johnson is facing charges of assault 1st degree, resisting or interfering with an arrest for a felony, and armed criminal action. His bond has been set at one million dollars and his arraignment is scheduled for Monday morning. 


WEATHER OFFICIALS SAY THERE IS POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE WEATHER EVENT THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING

Weather officials say we could see severe weather today in addition to a heat advisory going into effect. 

According to a Hazardous Weather Outlook from the National Weather Service, the potential exists for a significant severe weather episode this afternoon and evening. Isolated to scattered supercells with very large hail, damaging winds and even a few tornadoes are possible. 

This evening, these storms could evolve into a line of thunderstorms, with a significant damaging wind threat.

A heat advisory will also be in effect today from 11 am to 7 pm. High temperatures are expected to be in the mid 90s with the heat index peaking between 104 and 108 degrees in the afternoon.


ARKANSAS MAN KILLED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK NEAR PORTAGEVILLE

An Arkansas man has died from injuries he received yesterday in a single vehicle wreck in Southeast Missouri. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 38 year old Richard Johnson, of Lepanto, Arkansas, was driving on Highway 162 in the Portageville area when his vehicle ran off the side of the road and overturned. 

Officials say the wreck occurred at around 3:30 pm. 

Johnson was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. 


BOAT CAPSIZES, KILLING AT LEAST 11 IN BRANSON

Authorities say at least 11 people have now been confirmed dead after a boat carrying tourists on Table Rock Lake in Branson capsized and sank.

Stone County Sheriff Doug Rader says seven people have been hospitalized and five others remain missing. Rader says stormy weather is believed to be what caused the Ride the Ducks boat to capsize Thursday night.

National Weather Service meteorologist Steve Lindenberg says the agency issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Branson area Thursday evening and winds reached speeds of more than 60 mph.

The National Transportation Safety Board said on Twitter that investigators will arrive on the scene this morning.


PUBLIC CORRUPTION CHARGES FILED AGAINST FORMER GREENVILLE CITY CLERK

A former Southeast Missouri city clerk is facing public corruption charges.  

Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley tells KWOC News his office has filed felony criminal charges in Wayne County against former Greenville City Clerk Pamela Birmingham. 

The complaint alleges that Birmingham misappropriated over $150,000 in currency over the course of her employment as City Clerk and forged an entry in the city’s check disbursement log.

Hawley says that Birmingham allegedly wrote herself several checks, without proper authorization, out of various bank accounts owned by the city.

Birmingham was employed by the City of Greenville between January 2014 and April 2016. 


TWO ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

Two men were arrested on drug charges Thursday morning in Dunklin County. 

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 48 year old Michael Pickard and 38 year old Kenneth Church, both of Kennett, were each arrested Thursday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance. 

Each man is also facing charges of possession of marijuana – 10 grams or less and possession of paraphernalia. 

Following their arrest, both men were held at the Dunklin County Jail. 


ATHLETE PHYSICALS SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEK IN POPLAR BLUFF

Poplar Bluff High School and Junior High student athletes can get a free physical done next week at the High School. 

Physicals will be conducted beginning at 5:30 pm on Thursday, July 26th for athletes in the 7th and 8th grades, beginning at 6:30 for 9th and 10th grades, and beginning at 7:30 for 11th and 12th grades. 

First practice dates have also been set for Poplar Bluff High School and Junior High fall sports. 

The first practice day for high school athletes is Monday, August 6th. Junior High athletes will follow a week later, on Monday, August 13th.

WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY FOLLOWING PURSUIT AND SEARCH IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

A woman was taken into custody Tuesday following a pursuit that began on Sunday. 

According to the Oregon County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday the Doniphan Police Department reported that they were in a vehicle pursuit westbound on MO 160 approaching the Oregon County line. The driver of the vehicle was a female, and had five children inside the vehicle with her. The officers discontinued the pursuit at the County Line.

On Monday, the vehicle involved in the pursuit was recovered at the Riverton Church and the Oregon County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a woman and five children walking along the river bank near Riverton.

A search was started and continued into Tuesday when the woman and children were found safe. 

The woman, identified as 26 year old Danisha Price, of Doniphan, was taken into custody.


HOT TEMPERATURES AND SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE TODAY IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

Residents in Southeast Missouri are looking at chances of hot temperatures and severe storms today. 

According to a Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the National Weather Service, there are chances of thunderstorms for this afternoon through late tonight. 

A few strong to severe storms will be possible, mainly in the heat of the day, with damaging winds the main severe threat. Locally heavy rainfall and lightning could accompany any thunderstorms through tonight.

Afternoon heat index values could top out around 100 degrees over the southern portions of southeast Missouri.


AREA MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON MULTIPLE WARRANTS IN BUTLER COUNTY

A local man was taken into custody last night on multiple warrants and a drug charge in Butler County. 

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 45 year old Michael Choate, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested shortly after 8 pm on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine. 

Choate also reportedly had warrants for failure to appear out of Butler County and Poplar Bluff. 

Following the arrest, Choate was held at the Butler County Jail

 

AUTHORITIES IN BUTLER COUNTY ARREST POPLAR BLUFF MAN ON METH AND PARAPHERNALIA CHARGES

A Poplar Bluff man is facing a meth charge following his arrest Wednesday afternoon in Butler County. 

According to authorities, 30 year old John Gray was taken into custody shortly before 4:30 pm Wednesday on charges of possession of methamphetamine and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

Following the arrest, Gray was transported to the Butler County Jail.  


TWO IN CUSTODY IN CONNECTION TO PURSUIT IN THE MISSOURI BOOTHEEL

Two people are in custody following a pursuit in the Missouri bootheel. 

Steele Police Chief Billy Joe Stanfield tells KWOC News that at around 3 am Wednesday morning an officer responded to a burglary call at an area pharmacy.

Upon their arrival, the officer observed a suspect vehicle leaving the scene. The officer pursued the vehicle into Dunklin County, where the vehicle crashed. Two suspects then fled the scene on foot. 

One of the suspects, from Memphis, Tennessee, was then taken into custody. A long search ensued for the second suspect, a 43 year old man from Osceola, Arkansas, which ended with his arrest.

Stanfield says the two suspects are currently incarcerated in the Pemiscot County Jail awaiting the filing of formal charges by the Pemiscot County Prosecuting Attorney. Their names were not released. 


POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE DRUG CHARGES

Authorities in Southeast Missouri arrested a Poplar Bluff man yesterday afternoon on multiple drug charges. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 35 year old Jameak Townsend was taken into custody on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance for hydrocodone and methamphetamine. 

Townsend is also facing charges of possession of a controlled substance – marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and speeding. 


MONTH LONG ROAD PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY

Route 25 in Stoddard and Cape Girardeau Counties will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction over the next month as contractor crews perform pavement repairs.

Officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation tell KWOC News that the section of roadway to be reduced is located from Route K to the Route 74 intersection and from Route 77 to the Route 91 intersection in Stoddard County.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 am to 5 pm daily through Sunday, August 19th.

MAN SOUGHT IN CONNECTION TO SHOOTING IN CARTER COUNTY

One man is dead and another is being sought following a shooting in Carter County. 

According to Carter County Sheriff Richard Stephens, deputies were dispatched to a residence on County Road 327 early Tuesday morning for a reported shooting. Inside the residence, deputies found a 34 year old male deceased with an apparent gunshot wound. The identity of the victim has not been released.

DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON WARRANTS FOR MULTIPLE CHARGES

A Dexter man has been taken into custody on multiple charges. 

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 32 year old Hobert Voss Jr. was recently arrested on warrants for furnishing pornographic material, statutory sodomy, statutory rape 1st degree, and rape or attempted rape 1st degree.

Officials say that Voss’s total bond was set at $40,000 and he remained in jail as of this morning.


ONE ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON METH CHARGE

Authorities in Butler County have arrested an area man on a meth charge. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 31 year old Carl Hiles, of Poplar Bluff, was taken into custody Tuesday night on charges of possession of methamphetamine and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. 

Following the arrest, Hiles was held at the Butler County Jail. 


POPLAR BLUFF CHURCH TO HOST BACK TO SCHOOL BASH

A Poplar Bluff church will be hosting a Back to School Bash later this month. 

The event will be held on Saturday July 28th at the Southside Assembly of God on Midland Street. 

Registration will begin at 4:30 pm with the bash starting at 5 pm. Officials say the first 100 visitors will get a free backpack. 

The church will also be hosting a school supply give away at 10:30 am on Sunday, July 29th. 


AUGUST POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCIL MEETING RESCHEDULED

The Poplar Bluff City Council has announced that one of its scheduled meetings for August has been moved back a week. 

According to the Poplar Bluff City Hall Facebook page, the city council normally meets on the first and third Monday of the month. 

However, due to a conflict with another meeting at the Black River Coliseum, the meeting originally scheduled for August 20th will now be held on August 28th.

According to officials, the section of Route EE to be closed is located from Route 142 to County Road 260.

MAN FACING TWO COUNTS OF CAPITAL MURDER IN CONNECTION TO DEATHS IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

25 year old Nicholaus Patterson, of Pocahontas, is facing charges of capital murder in connection to the deaths.  


SEARCH UNDERWAY FOR SUSPECT IN SIKESTON ARMED ROBBERY

Authorities in Sikeston are searching for a suspect following a reported robbery on Monday. 

According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, shortly before 7:30 am Monday, officers responded to a Dollar General located on South Kingshighway in reference to an armed robbery.

A store clerk said the suspect had a handgun and left with an undetermined amount of cash. 

The suspect was described as a white male, medium to heavy build, wearing a blue or purple colored shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes. 

Officials say that the suspect is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who has information related to the case is asked to contact Sikeston DPS at 573-471-4711 or your local law enforcement agency.


MAN TRANSPORTED TO ST. LOUIS HOSPITAL IN CONNECTION TO INCIDENT INVOLVING A FLARE GUN

A man has been transported to a St. Louis hospital following an incident involving a flare gun. 

According to authorities, the man was shot in the throat with a flare gun Monday morning at a Poplar Bluff residence. 

The man had allegedly kicked in a door to the residence before he was shot. 


MARIJUANA AND ECSTASY FOUND DURING TRAFFIC STOP IN PORTAGEVILLE

Two men have been arrested in New Madrid County after drugs were found during a traffic stop. 

According to Portageville Police Chief Ronnie Adams, officers conducted the stop on a vehicle Saturday night for no headlights. 

Adams says that officers observed a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle and conducted a search. During the search, they found approximately 900 grams of marijuana and 48 pills that field tested positive for ecstasy. 

Two male subjects were arrested and incarcerated pending the filing of formal charges through the New Madrid County Prosecutor’s Office for delivery of a controlled substance. 


MULTIPLE SCHOOL READINESS EVENTS TO BE HELD IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

The South Central Missouri Community Action Agency is planning several school readiness events to be held over the next month in Southeast Missouri. 

The events will feature many different organizations in the community with services for low income families. Children registered for the event can receive free age appropriate school supplies, including backpacks, paper, folders, and pencils. Health Screenings will also be completed for the children. 

Events are scheduled to be held in Butler, Carter, Dent, Reynolds, Ripley, Shannon, and Wayne Counties.

MULTIPLE PEOPLE ARRESTED FOLLOWING INCIDENT IN SIKESTON

Multiple people have been taken into custody following an incident over the weekend in Sikeston. 

Sergeant Jon Broom with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety tells KWOC News that Sikeston DPS officers, the
Missouri State Highway Patrol, and Street Crimes Task Force responded to a disturbance early Sunday morning. 

Officers made entry to a building and observed a juvenile in possession of marijuana. The officers attempted to take the juvenile into custody at which time he resisted and refused officers commands. Officers were eventually able to take the juvenile into custody and recovered the suspected marijuana as evidence. 

An additional search of his person yielded a white powdery substance that field tested positive for cocaine. 

Officers remained at the location and made additional arrests for charges varying from assault on police, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and possession of marijuana.

Broom says officers and detectives will continue to review camera footage from the evening and more arrests are possible.

ONE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY DURING NORTHEAST ARKANSAS DOUBLE HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

Authorities in Northeast Arkansas say a person has been taken into custody during an investigation into a double homicide.

MAN DROWNS AT OFFSET QUARRY IN MADISON COUNTY

A St. Louis man drowned Friday in Madison County. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 21 year old Safion Livingston was in the water at Offset Quarry near Fredericktown, when he began struggling, submerged, and did not resurface. 

Livingston was later pronounced dead by Madison County Coroner Collin Follis. 

Officials say the incident occurred at around 4 pm Friday afternoon. 


SUBJECT FACING MULTIPLE CHARGES FOLLOWING INCIDENT IN KENNETT

A Kennett resident is facing multiple charges in connection to an incident last Friday. 

Officials with the Kennett Police Department tell KWOC News that officers responded to an area business Friday morning in reference to a subject who had been caught shoplifting and was fighting with store employees. 

Upon arrival, officers were able to subdue and arrest 29 year old Aireka Austin, of Kennett. Officers also located an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine and narcotic related paraphernalia in Austin’s purse.

Austin was arrested for robbery 2nd degree, burglary 1st degree, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, assault on a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.


ONE ARRESTED ON COCAINE CHARGE FOLLOWING WRECK

A wreck last week in Kennett led to a cocaine arrest. 

According to the Kennett Police Department, Thursday evening, officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Main and Fifth Streets. At the scene, officers located one of the vehicles involved and were advised that the second vehicle had left the scene.

Following an investigation, officers arrested the second driver, 37 year old Cedric Rogers, of Kennett. During the arrest, officers located an undisclosed amount of cocaine and narcotic related paraphernalia.

Rogers was arrested for driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, possession of a controlled substance, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia and was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center.


FISK MAN ARRESTED ON METHAMPHETAMINE CHARGE

Authorities in Butler County have arrested a Fisk man on a meth charge. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 57 year old David Bolen was taken into custody Friday evening on charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Following the arrest, Bolen was held at the Butler County Jail. 


MONTH LONG REPAIR PROJECT SCHEDULED TO BEGIN TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY

Route J in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction over the next month as contractor crews perform pavement repairs. 

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway to be reduced is located from Route 25 to Route T.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 am to 5 pm daily, through Thursday, August 16th.


CREWS TO BE IN WAYNE COUNTY THROUGH NOVEMBER FOR BRIDGE DECK REPLACEMENT

Route Z in Wayne County will be reduced to one lane starting today so contractor crews can perform a bridge deck replacement. 

Officials say the work zone is located in the area of County Road 519B.

Weather permitting, work is scheduled to be performed today through Saturday, November 3rd from 6 am to 6 pm. Temporary signals will be in place for one lane traffic.

MAN FACING MURDER CHARGE IN CONNECTION TO STABBING DEATH IN STODDARD COUNTY

A Dexter man is facing a murder charge in connection to a stabbing death in Stoddard County. 

According to the Dexter Police Department, 66 year old Jimmy Casey, of Dexter was found dead in late June. An autopsy determined he had died after receiving multiple stab wounds.

A warrant has been issued for 31 year old Joshua Koonce, of Dexter, on the counts of murder 2nd degree and armed criminal action. Koonce reportedly admitted to stabbing Casey and staging a burglary. 

He was being held in Colorado, awaiting extradition to Stoddard County.

Three other people have each been charged with hindering prosecution in connection to the investigation, 48 year old David Koonce, 28 year old Jared Eldreth, and 27 year old Brandon Koonce, all of Dexter.  


RIVER RADIO BLOOD DRIVE SET FOR TODAY

FOUR SOUTHEAST MISSOURI PARK RANGERS HONORED

Four Southeast Missouri National Park Service Rangers have been honored for their heroic efforts during the flooding that impacted Ozark National Scenic Riverways and much of southern Missouri in April of 2017. 

Park Rangers Joshua Gibbs, Lindel Gregory, Patrick Jackson, and Daniel Newberry were each presented Valor Awards by Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke during the 73rd Honor Awards Convocation Ceremony on July 4th. 

The rangers successfully conducted approximately 30 rescues, all under hazardous conditions, and continuously exposed themselves to high-risk situations during the flooding.

The rangers, along with their families, traveled to Washington, D.C. to receive their awards at the special Independence Day ceremony. Award certificates and personalized Valor Coins engraved with their names were presented to each ranger by Secretary Zinke.


GREENVILLE MAN FACING GUN AND DRUG CHARGES

A Greenville man has been taken into custody on gun and drug charges. 

Wayne County Sheriff Dean Finch tells KWOC News that on Thursday, authorities made contact with convicted felon David Helm, and found him to be in possession of multiple firearms, ammunition, and approximately one ounce of methamphetamine.

Finch says Helm was charged with felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance. He was held in the Wayne County Jail.


DEXTER GRILLE IT UP SET FOR THIS WEEKEND

Multiple attractions are scheduled for this weekend as a part of Dexter Grille It Up. 

Officials tell us that the event will begin at 8 am Saturday at the Dexter East Park. 

There will be a car show, mud volleyball tournament, and cook off contest at the event, along with numerous vendors, helicopter rides, and live music, among other attractions.

MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING PURSUIT IN KENNETT

Authorities in Kennett say that a Malden man has been taken into custody following a pursuit. 

According to the Kennett Police Department, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop a vehicle driven by 24 year old Neal Bailey, of Malden, when Bailey refused to stop and led officers on a vehicle pursuit. Officials say that during the pursuit Bailey attempted to strike a patrol vehicle. 

The pursuit continued into New Madrid County where the suspect finally came to a stop on a New Madrid County Road, exited the vehicle, and fled on foot.

After a foot pursuit, officers apprehended Bailey in a ditch and took him into custody.

Bailey was transported to the Dunklin County Justice Center where he was placed on a twenty-four hour hold for resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, and two counts of assault 2nd degree on a law enforcement officer. 

Officials say that Bailey was also arrested on an active Malden Municipal warrant.


DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON WARRANT FOR DELIVERY OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

Authorities in Stoddard County have arrested an area man on a controlled substance warrant. 

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 44 year old Thomas Wilson, of Dexter, was recently taken into custody on warrants for delivery of a controlled substance and probation violation. 

The controlled substance warrant had a bond set at $25,000 cash only. 

Officials say Wilson remained in jail as of this morning.

SIX INJURED, INCLUDING FOUR YOUNG CHILDREN, IN WRECK INVOLVING A FREIGHTLINER

Six people were injured, including four young children, in a wreck last night in Pemiscot County. 

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the wreck occurred shortly before 8 pm, around two miles west of Hayti. A vehicle, driven by 32 year old Kerry Crosby, of Caruthersville, allegedly pulled into the path of a freightliner on US Highway 412. 

Crosby, along with a 26 year old and one year old passenger in her vehicle, suffered serious injuries and were flown to Memphis hospitals. 

Three other young children in Crosby’s vehicle received moderate or minor injuries. 


TWO PEOPLE FOUND DEAD IN THE EAST PRAIRIE AREA

Authorities in Mississippi County are investigating the deaths of two people. 

According to authorities, the two were recently found dead in a residence in the East Prairie area. Their identities were not released. 

Officials say that autopsies are set to be conducted today. 


NO ONE INJURED IN FIRE IN STODDARD COUNTY

Nobody was injured during a fire yesterday in Stoddard County. 

According to authorities, multiple fuel tanks caught on fire at a farm in the Bernie area. 

Fire crews from several area communities assisted with extinguishing the fire and there was no one hurt. 


MAN ARRESTED ON METH CHARGE IN BUTLER COUNTY

An area man has been taken into custody in Butler County on a felony drug charge. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 47 year old Danny McKinnon, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested Wednesday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine. 

McKinnon is also reportedly facing charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while revoked. Following the arrest, he was held at the Butler County Jail. 


DUNKLIN COUNTY SHERIFF WARNS OF PHONE SCAM

Officials in Dunkin County say that there is a scam caller that is targeting area residents. 

Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder tells KWOC News that there is an individual calling Dunklin County residents, stating they have a warrant out of Dunklin County. 

The caller then says that in order to keep from being arrested, the person should go to an area store and purchase two cards with the money to be mailed to a designated city.  

Holder says that if you receive a phone call stating you have a warrant and requesting money, it is a scam. 

Any questions relating to a request for money from the Dunklin County Sheriffs' Office is also a scam.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN KILLED IN WRECK IN BUTLER COUNTY 

A Poplar Bluff man was found dead Monday at the scene of a wreck in Butler County.  

According to Butler County Coroner Andy Moore, on the evening of July 9th a vehicle accident related to a reported stolen truck was discovered near Neelyville. Upon investigation a single occupant was found deceased within the vehicle. 

The occupant has been identified as 40 year old Dwayne Young.  

Moore says Young was an acquaintance of the owner of the truck that was reported stolen. The owner stated that Young had been at her residence in the days leading up to the stolen vehicle report.

IDENTITY RELEASED OF MAN FOUND DEAD IN POPLAR BLUFF PARK

Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, authorities have released the identity of a body that was found earlier this week in a Poplar Bluff park.

The body of 38 year old Jamie Bell was discovered at around 7 am Monday morning at Sportsman’s Park.

Butler County Coroner Andy Moore tells KWOC News that no foul play is believed to have been involved in the death.

 

TWIN RIVERS SCHOOL DISTRICT TO HOST REGISTRATION EVENT IN EARLY AUGUST

The Twin Rivers School District has announced that it will be holding a registration event for all students in Kindergarten through 12th grade early next month.

Royal Registration is scheduled for 1 to 7 pm on Tuesday, August 7th, at Twin Rivers High School in Broseley.

There will be booths set up for parents to turn in their updated enrollment forms, receive students schedules, discuss student health concerns with the nurses, ask transportation questions, and allow students to have their school picture taken.

Officials say that a packet will be mailed home on July 20th with the enrollment paperwork that must be completed and returned at Royal Registration.

STURDIVANT MAN CHARGED WITH RAPE

A man is facing a rape charge out of Bollinger County.

According to Missouri Case Net, Roy Jones, of Sturdivant, has been charged with multiple felonies including 2nd degree rape.

Jones’ arraignment has been scheduled for 9 am this morning in Bollinger County.

 

HEAT ADVISORY TO BE IN EFFECT THIS AFTERNOON

Parts of Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas will be under a heat advisory this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, the heat advisory will be in effect from 11 am to 8 pm.

Heat index values are expected to peak near 105 degrees this afternoon.

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Remember to drink plenty of fluids and stay out of the sun if possible.

 

HAYTI MAN ARRESTED ON FLEEING CHARGE IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

Authorities in Pemiscot County have arrested an area man on multiple charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 30 year old Alnelius Fisher, of Hayti, was taken into custody Tuesday night on charges including resisting arrest by fleeing and driving while suspended.

Following the arrest, Fisher was held at the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Office.

 

WAYNE COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR ASPHALT OVERLAY

Missouri Route 143 in Wayne County will be closed both today and tomorrow so crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation can overlay the road with asphalt.

The section of roadway to be closed is located north of Sam A. Baker Park to the Iron County Line.

Work is scheduled to be performed from 7 am to 4:30 pm both days.

CARUTHERSVILLE MAN FACING AN ASSAULT ON A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER CHARGE

A Southeast Missouri man was taken into custody last week on an assault charge. 

According to authorities, 21 year old Gary Gale Jr., of Caruthersville, was arrested Friday for an alleged assault on a law enforcement officer by means of a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument. 

Gale’s bond was set at $25,000 and he was taken to the Pemiscot County Justice Center. 


THREE RIVERS COLLEGE THEATER COMPANY TO PERFORM THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE ABRIDGED

A local theater company comprised of students and employees of Three Rivers College, as well as members of the community, will be performing a comedic interpretation of the various plays of William Shakespeare next week.

Tickets are now available for “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged.” Performances will be held at 7 pm on July 19th through the 21st and at 2 pm on July 22nd at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center. 

Director Dr. Michael Malone says that all of Shakespeare’s plays will be comically squeezed into the performance, including a rapping Othello, a Romeo and Juliet parody, and a minute version of Hamlet.

Tickets are available for $10 or $5 with a TRC ID at the Three Rivers Student Accounts Office. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN FACING METHAMPHETAMINE CHARGE FOLLOWING ARREST IN BUTLER COUNTY 

Authorities in Butler County have arrested a Poplar Bluff man on a felony drug charge.  

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 31 year old Carl Hiles was taken into custody Saturday night on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.  

Hiles is also facing charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while suspended. Following the arrest, he was held at the Butler County Jail.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN FACING METHAMPHETAMINE CHARGE FOLLOWING ARREST IN BUTLER COUNTY

SOME SOUTHEAST MISSORUI RESIDENTS COULD BE SEEING LOWER ELECTRIC BILLS STARTING NEXT MONTH

Some residents of Southeast Missouri could be seeing a lower electric bill beginning next month.

The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved an agreement which reduces the electric revenues for Ameren Missouri by about 6 percent, or $166.5 million.

Under the new rates, a residential customer using 1,000 killowatts a month would see a rate decrease of about $6.21 a month.

The Commission says that the rate decrease reflects a reduction in the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21% as a result of passage of the federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.

 

WAYNE COUNTY ROAD SET TO BE CLOSED EARLY THIS WEEK FOR REPAIRS

Route E in Wayne County will be closed early this week so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can overlay the road with asphalt.

The closure will be located from Business 67 to Route C.

Weather permitting, work will take place today and tomorrow from 7:30 am to 5 pm each day.

 

TWO SERIOUSLY INJURED IN WRECK ON INTERSTATE 55

Two Illinois residents were seriously injured in a wreck Sunday morning in Pemiscot County.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the wreck occurred at around 8 am Sunday on Interstate 55.

A motorhome, driven by 66 year old Catherine Hogan, of Country Club Hills, Illinois, ran off the side of the roadway and overturned. Hogan was flown to a Memphis hospital with serious injuries.

An 82 year old passenger also suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was transported to a Hayti hospital.

 

BRIDGE REPAIRS TO FORCE CLOSURE OF STODDARD COUNTY ROAD

A portion of Route P in Stoddard County will be closed for over two months beginning today as contractor crews replace a bridge deck.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the bridge is located between Route Y and County Road 516.

Officials say that the bridge is scheduled to re-open on Sunday, September 30th.

 

DATE SET FOR 10TH ANNUAL MULE SKINNER GOLF TOURNAMENT

The date has been set for the 10th Annual Mule Skinner Golf Tournament.

The 4 person scramble tournament will be held on Friday, August 3rd at the Westwood Hills Country Club in Poplar Bluff. Organizers say the entry fee is $500 per team, which includes a cart and lunch. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100 per hole.

All proceeds will go to benefit the Poplar Bluff Mules athletics programs.

SUSPECT IN CUSTODY IN CONNECTION TO SIKESTON SHOOTING

Authorities in Sikeston say that a man is facing an assault charge in connection to a shooting on the 4th of July. 

According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, a 44 year old Sikeston man was shot in the abdomen Wednesday morning. The victim is expected to make a full recovery.

A suspect in the case, 66 year old Alvin Jones, of Sikeston, has been taken into custody and charged with assault 1st, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon. His bond was set at $100,000 cash only. 

Officials say that the victim and suspect were both romantically involved with the same woman; however it is unclear if that was the reason for the assault. 


TWO ARRESTED ON METH CHARGES IN BUTLER COUNTY

Two Poplar Bluff residents have been taken into custody on a felony meth charge. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 44 year old Bobby Duncan and 41 year old Angela Duncan were each arrested shortly before 10 am Thursday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and a misdemeanor charge unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. 

Following the arrest, both were held at the Butler County Jail. 


TEENAGER ARRESTED ON DOMESTIC ASSAULT AND WEAPON CHARGES

A teenager has been taken into custody in Kennett in connection to an alleged altercation involving a knife earlier this week. 

According to the Kennett Police Department, shortly before 5 pm on Sunday, officers were dispatched to an area residence in reference to a subject armed with a knife who was attempting to cut someone.

Following an investigation, officers arrested a 17 year old Kennett resident for domestic assault 1st degree, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.


MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL TO HOLD MULTIPLE ENFORCEMENT PROJECTS THIS MONTH

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has announced they will be holding multiple enforcement projects this month in Southeast Missouri. 

Captain Jeffrey Vitale, commanding officer of Troop E of the Highway Patrol, tells KWOC News that sometime during the month of July, Troop E officers will be conducting two impaired driving enforcement operations.

An exact time frame or scope for the operations was not released. 

The operations will be conducted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies.


ONE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER ATTEMPTING TO PASS COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY IN KENNETT

Authorities in Kennett say that an area resident has been taken into custody after allegedly attempting to use fake money. 

Officials with the Kennett Police Department tell KWOC News that on Wednesday, officers were dispatched to a local convenience store in reference to a subject attempting to pass counterfeit currency. While on the way, the officers learned the suspect had fled the scene. 

48 year old Jackie Gattis, of Kennett, was located and arrested on an active warrant. During the arrest, officers located an undisclosed amount of marijuana on Gattis’ person. Gattis was arrested for counterfeiting as well as possession of marijuana.

Officials say that during the booking process, an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine was also located on Gattis’ person.

Gattis was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center on the warrant and pending the filing of formal charges by the Dunklin County Prosecutor’s office.


DATES SET FOR OPEN HOUSE AND ORIENTATIONS IN THE POPLAR BLUFF R-1 SCHOOL DISTRICT

Parents in Poplar Bluff will have the opportunity to learn more about the schools their children will be attending this fall during a series of open houses scheduled for next month. 

Open houses will be held for the Kindergarten, 5th and 6th grades on Monday, August 13th. The 7th grade orientation will also be held on the 13th at the Junior High. 

On Tuesday, August 14th, there will be the 4th grade orientation at the Middle School as well as the 8th grade Open House at the Junior High. 

Early Childhood parent orientation is also scheduled for August 14th, with the Early Childhood Open House two weeks later on the 28th. 

The four elementary schools will be holding their Open Houses on Wednesday, August 15th. 

For Poplar Bluff High School, freshman orientation is set for Wednesday, August 8th, and the Open House will be held on Tuesday, August 21st.
