TWO ELDERLY BUTLER COUNTY RESIDENTS FOUND DEAD

Two elderly Butler County residents were found dead Wednesday in what is believed to be a murder/suicide.

Butler County Coroner Andy Moore tells KWOC News that the two bodies were found Wednesday in the Oglesville area.

Last night at approximately 5:30 p.m. the Butler County Coroner's Office was dispatched to Oglesville in reference to a possible murder-suicide. Upon arrival Deputy Corner Corey Crutchfield and myself pronounced two individuals as deceased at the scene. Both died as a result of gunshot wounds and all indications are the female's life was taken first and the male took his life shortly after the initial incident. The deceased are identified as Elvin and Onedia Johnson, both 84 of Oglesville.

NAYLOR UNDER BOIL WATER DUE TO BORKEN WATER MAIN

A broken water main has caused a Southeast Missouri community to be placed under a boil water order.

Officials say that the city of Naylor is under the order until further notice.

Naylor residents are advised to boil their water for five minutes before drinking it or using it to cook with. It is safe to wash clothes and dishes as well as take baths and showers.

 

ATHLETE PHYSICALS SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT IN POPLAR BLUFF

Poplar Bluff High School and Junior High student athletes can get a free physical done tonight at the High School.

Physicals will be conducted beginning at 5:30 pm on Thursday, July 26th for athletes in the 7th and 8th grades, beginning at 6:30 for 9th and 10th grades, and beginning at 7:30 for 11th and 12th grades.

The first practice day for high school athletes is set for Monday, August 6th. Junior High athletes will follow a week later, on Monday, August 13th.

 

REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FORUM SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT IN POPLAR BLUFF

Many area Republicans who will be competing in the upcoming primary election will be speaking tonight in Poplar Bluff.

The Butler County Republican Candidate Forum is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 pm tonight at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center.

The event is free and open to the public. KWOC will also be broadcasting the event beginning at 6:20 pm over the radio at 93.3 FM and 930 AM as well as on the KWOC Facebook page.

 

MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY DRUG CHARGE IN WAYNE COUNTY

A Missouri man is facing a felony marijuana charge following his arrest last night in Wayne County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 45 year old Sammy Ray, of Bismarck, was arrested Wednesday night on a felony charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Ray was also taken into custody on a charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Missouri Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, August 7th. 

 

TWO ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY FOR FAILURE TO REGISTER AS A SEX OFFENDER

Two people have been taken into custody in Stoddard County for allegedly failing to register as sex offenders.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 54 year old John Haas, of Bloomfield, and 51 year old Rebecca Edwards, of Advance, were each recently arrested on warrants for failure to register as a sex offender.

Haas was also arrested on a warrant for harassment 1st degree.

Haas’s bond was set at $25,000, while Edwards bond was set at $3,500 and officials say both remained in jail as of this morning.
