SUSPECT IN CUSTODY IN CONNECTION TO SIKESTON SHOOTING
Authorities in Sikeston say that a man is facing an assault charge in connection to a shooting on the 4th of July.
According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, a 44 year old Sikeston man was shot in the abdomen Wednesday morning. The victim is expected to make a full recovery.
A suspect in the case, 66 year old Alvin Jones, of Sikeston, has been taken into custody and charged with assault 1st, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon. His bond was set at $100,000 cash only.
Officials say that the victim and suspect were both romantically involved with the same woman; however it is unclear if that was the reason for the assault.
TWO ARRESTED ON METH CHARGES IN BUTLER COUNTY
Two Poplar Bluff residents have been taken into custody on a felony meth charge.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 44 year old Bobby Duncan and 41 year old Angela Duncan were each arrested shortly before 10 am Thursday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and a misdemeanor charge unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
Following the arrest, both were held at the Butler County Jail.
TEENAGER ARRESTED ON DOMESTIC ASSAULT AND WEAPON CHARGES
A teenager has been taken into custody in Kennett in connection to an alleged altercation involving a knife earlier this week.
According to the Kennett Police Department, shortly before 5 pm on Sunday, officers were dispatched to an area residence in reference to a subject armed with a knife who was attempting to cut someone.
Following an investigation, officers arrested a 17 year old Kennett resident for domestic assault 1st degree, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.
MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL TO HOLD MULTIPLE ENFORCEMENT PROJECTS THIS MONTH
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has announced they will be holding multiple enforcement projects this month in Southeast Missouri.
Captain Jeffrey Vitale, commanding officer of Troop E of the Highway Patrol, tells KWOC News that sometime during the month of July, Troop E officers will be conducting two impaired driving enforcement operations.
An exact time frame or scope for the operations was not released.
The operations will be conducted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies.
ONE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER ATTEMPTING TO PASS COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY IN KENNETT
Authorities in Kennett say that an area resident has been taken into custody after allegedly attempting to use fake money.
Officials with the Kennett Police Department tell KWOC News that on Wednesday, officers were dispatched to a local convenience store in reference to a subject attempting to pass counterfeit currency. While on the way, the officers learned the suspect had fled the scene.
48 year old Jackie Gattis, of Kennett, was located and arrested on an active warrant. During the arrest, officers located an undisclosed amount of marijuana on Gattis’ person. Gattis was arrested for counterfeiting as well as possession of marijuana.
Officials say that during the booking process, an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine was also located on Gattis’ person.
Gattis was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center on the warrant and pending the filing of formal charges by the Dunklin County Prosecutor’s office.
DATES SET FOR OPEN HOUSE AND ORIENTATIONS IN THE POPLAR BLUFF R-1 SCHOOL DISTRICT
Parents in Poplar Bluff will have the opportunity to learn more about the schools their children will be attending this fall during a series of open houses scheduled for next month.
Open houses will be held for the Kindergarten, 5th and 6th grades on Monday, August 13th. The 7th grade orientation will also be held on the 13th at the Junior High.
On Tuesday, August 14th, there will be the 4th grade orientation at the Middle School as well as the 8th grade Open House at the Junior High.
Early Childhood parent orientation is also scheduled for August 14th, with the Early Childhood Open House two weeks later on the 28th.
The four elementary schools will be holding their Open Houses on Wednesday, August 15th.
For Poplar Bluff High School, freshman orientation is set for Wednesday, August 8th, and the Open House will be held on Tuesday, August 21st.
