BUTLER COUNTY JOINS NATIONAL GUARD IN HOSTING FREE COVID-19 TESTING SITE 

The Butler County Health Department will be joining with the Missouri National Guard to offer free COVID-19 testing next week. 

According to the Department, the testing will be performed at the Three Rivers College’s Libla Sports Complex, and the tests will be open to all state residents. You do not have to be experiencing symptoms or have a doctor’s note to be eligible for testing. 

When arriving, you will be asked questions, including potential symptoms you may have. Members of the Guard will then collect and send the test to a laboratory for processing. Patients will receive their results from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services within 7 days. 

The testing will be held from July 7th from 10 am to 6 pm, July 8th from 7 am to 3 pm, and on July 9th from 7 am to 1 pm. You can register online by visiting www.Health.Mo.Gov, or by calling 877-435-8411.

MULTIPLE EVENTS PLANNED TO CELEBRATE 4TH OF JULY IN POPLAR BLUFF

There are multiple events planned for Saturday in Poplar Bluff to celebrate Independence Day.

The Black River Coliseum will be the host for the Little Miss and Mr. Firecracker 4th of July Pageant. Registration will begin at 10 am with the pageant beginning at 11 am. 

There will be music, vendors, and food available from 4 to 9 pm at the Farmer’s Market area located across from the Black River Coliseum. 

The fireworks display is scheduled to start at approximately 9 pm. 

RIVER RADIO BLOOD DRIVE SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEK

There will be an opportunity next week to give blood and help save lives. 

The River Radio Blood Drive has been scheduled for noon to 6 pm on Friday, July 10th at the Sacred Heart Catholic School Gym in Poplar Bluff.

HIGHWAY PATROL PREPARING FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY TRAFFIC

With the Fourth of July coming up, troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol are preparing for an increase in travelers on Missouri’s roadways. 

Officials tell KWOC News that the Highway Patrol will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. over the July Fourth holiday. All available officers will be patrolling Missouri’s roadways enforcing Missouri’s traffic laws in addition to being available to assist motorists. 

In addition, a 2020 Independence Day DWI Enforcement operation will be in effect during the long weekend. Troopers will strictly enforce Missouri statutes addressing driving while intoxicated, underage drinking, possession of intoxicating liquor by a minor, and intoxication by a minor. 

Troopers will also be working on the state’s waterways to enforce Missouri’s boating laws and provide assistance where needed. Missouri’s boaters are being asked to do their part by remaining alert for other boats and swimmers, and being courteous on the water. 

SAFETY TIPS FOR YOUR PETS DURING THE INDEPENDENCE DAY HOLIDAY

While fireworks are a great treat for many during the Fourth of July, your pets might not enjoy them as much as you do. 

The Humane Society of Missouri says that the loud noises can cause dogs and cats to act out of character. A startled dog or cat may hide or try to escape the noise by digging under, chewing through or climbing over fences.

The Humane Society has released some tips for keeping your pet happy during the holiday.  

Give your pet a quiet, cool place to retreat inside where sounds are less intense. 

Keeping them inside will also protect them from stray fireworks. Their retreat could be a basement or an interior room like a bathroom with access to clean, cool water.

12TH ANNUAL MULE SKINNER GOLF TOURNAMENT SET FOR NEXT WEEK

The 12th Annual Mule Skinner Golf Tournament is just over a month away. 

The 4 person scramble tournament will be held on Friday, August 7th at the Westwood Hills Country Club in Poplar Bluff. Organizers say the entry fee is $500 per team, which includes a cart and lunch. Hole sponsorship’s are available for $100 per hole. 

All proceeds will go to benefit Poplar Bluff Mules athletics programs.

TWO ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI DEATHS NOW OVER 1,000

There were two additional cases of the coronavirus confirmed in Butler County yesterday, while the total cases in Missouri have continued to rise.

According to the Butler County Health Department, the two patients have brought the County’s total cases to 92, and have been quarantined. Of these cases, 68 have recovered, and 22 are currently in isolation.

The department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Tuesday, there were a total of 21,551 confirmed cases in the state, and 1,015 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGE

A woman was arrested in Stoddard County on a drug possession charge on Tuesday.

Officials with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 30 year old Candice Leathers, of Dexter, was booked on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

Following her arrest, she was transported to the Stoddard County Jail, with no bond.

BRIDGE WORK SCHEDULED IN STODDARD COUNTY NEXT WEEK

A road will be closed while bridge work is underway in Stoddard County next week.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route Z, between Route 788 and County Road 789, will be closed while contractor crews replace the bridge over the Little River Drainage Ditch.

The work is set to begin on Monday, and is expected to be completed by August 14th.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY

A driver suffered injuries after a vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Tuesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling down Highway 25, south of Dexter, before it ran off the right side of the roadway and overcorrected, causing it to run off the left side of the road.

The elderly driver suffered minor injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment.

TWO ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES

Two people were taken into custody in New Madrid County on drug related charges.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 29 year old Nicole Lott, of New Orleans, was arrested on a felony charge of possession of marijuana.

Additionally, 33 year old Chad Lachney, of Harvey, was charged on felony possession of a controlled substance – ecstasy, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They were both transported to the New Madrid County Jail following their arrests.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI FOOD BANKS SCHEDULE MOBILE FOOD PANTRIES

The Southeast Missouri Food Bank will be hosting several mobile food pantries in regards to the ongoing COVID-19 threat.

There will be multiple pantries in several locations, with the first bank opening at the Carter County Senior Center in Van Buren on July 9th, at 3:30 pm.

Four locations will open on July 11th, including: The Trinity United Methodist Church in Bloomfield, the Bread Shed in Poplar Bluff, and the General Baptist Church in Ellsinore, all opening at 9 am. There will also be a pantry at the First Baptist Church in Puxico at 10 am.

Residents are encouraged to only visit one pantry per month, and will be limited to one box per household. To receive a distribution, you are advised to bring a photo ID and a piece of mail that indicates your proof of residence.

COVID-19 RELATED DEATHS REPORTED IN BUTLER AND STODDARD COUNTIES

COVID-19 related deaths were reported in Butler and Stoddard Counties on Monday.

Butler County confirmed its first death caused by the coronavirus, a resident from the Oakdale Nursing Home in Poplar Bluff, who had previously tested positive for the virus. The patient was admitted to a hospital on June 21st, and remained under care until they passed away on Sunday.

In Stoddard County, the 9th death caused by the coronavirus was confirmed on Monday, and County officials are urging residents to keep the importance of social distancing in mind. They also recommend not coming into contact with large crowds or public gatherings, and to practice good hygiene.

No personal information about either patients will be released at this time.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

A driver was injured after his vehicle crashed in Dunklin County on Monday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicle was traveling west bound down Route DD, northwest of Campbell, where it struck a bridge rail and ran off the right side of the roadway.

The elderly driver suffered moderate injuries from the crash, and was transported to a hospital in Stoddard County for treatment.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT SEARCHING FOR SUSPECTS IN THEFT INVESTIGATION

The Poplar Bluff Police Department is asking residents to assist in identifying suspects in a theft investigation.

According to the Department, two suspects were caught on video surveillance when the theft took place. Pictures of the two are available on the Poplar Bluff Police Department’s Facebook Page.

DROWNING VICTIM FOUND IN DUNKLIN COUNTY IDENTIFIED

Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, the drowning victim reported in Dunklin County has been identified.

According to officials with the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol, authorities responded to a call about an incident at the St. Francis River, where they found two females holding on to tree branches at the east side of the river.

There were also two men sitting on the west side of the river, and they were rescued by authorities along with the two women.

Reports state that three male family members were attempting to cross the river before they were caught by the current in an area of deep water. The three were swept downstream, while one of the men was submerged by the current, and could not resurface.

The man was identified as 22 year old Roger Luttrell, of Kennett, whose body was later located at County Road 228, near Campbell. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

ADDITIONAL CASE OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY; MISSOURI TOTAL OVER 21,000

A new case of the coronavirus was reported in New Madrid County, while Missouri’s total cases have continued to increase.

According to the New Madrid County Health Department, the new case has risen the County’s total to 42, and the patient has been put under quarantine. The department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patient was active.

In Missouri, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, there are now a total of 21,043 confirmed cases of the virus, and 998 deaths in the state have been directly linked to the disease.

ROAD SCHEDULED TO CLOSE IN BUTLER COUNTY DURING REPAIRS

A roadway in Butler County will be closed next week while undergoing repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation - southbound Route 67, starting north of Route 160, will be closed while undergoing various repair work, including pavement repairs. Motorists should look for lane reductions with a 20-foot width restriction.

The work is scheduled to begin on July 6th, and continue through July 10th, from 7 am to 6 pm each day.

MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING DROWNING REPORT IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol are currently investigating a drowning that took place in Dunklin County on Sunday.

Few details are available at this time, however the Patrol responded to a call on Sunday evening about a swimmer who didn’t resurface after going under the water in the St. Francis River. A body was found later near County Road 228, west of Campbell.

The incident is currently under investigation.

MAN FOUND DECEASED FOLLOWING HOUSE FIRE IN BUTLER COUNTY

A man was found deceased following a house fire in Butler County early Monday morning.

Officials with the Butler County Fire Department, as well as authorities with the County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a call of a house fire in Qulin on Sunday evening, where Butler County Coroner Andy Moore identified a body found inside the building as 76 year old Kenneth Furr.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the fire, and an autopsy for Furr’s body is pending.

MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN RIPLEY COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION

A man was arrested in Ripley County on Friday on a methamphetamine possession charge.

Officials with the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 36 year old Zackery Dickson, of Doniphan, was taken into custody on a felony charge on possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and a charge on possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was transported to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department following his arrest.

WAPPAPELLO STATE PARK HOSTING PUBLIC MEETING NEXT WEEKEND

Missouri State Parks officials will be hosting a public meeting at Wappapello State Park next weekend.

The meeting will be used to discuss plans for parks across Missouri, as well as gather input and comments from the public about park operations and future goals. Wappapello Park staff will be attending the meeting to answer any questions or concerns.

The meeting will be held at Wappapello Park’s store on July 11th, and staff is recommending attendees to follow social-distancing guidelines while the meeting takes place.

STODDARD COUNTY REISSUES STATE OF EMERGENCY; BUTLER COUNTY SEES TWO ADDITIONAL COVID-19 CASES

Stoddard County has reissued its state of emergency order, while Butler County has reported two new cases of the coronavirus.

Officials with the Stoddard County Health Center made the decision due to the rapid increase of cases of the COVID-19 virus. The Health department is following the Governors orders asking residents to continue practicing social distancing guidelines, as well as regulations set by the CDC.

In Butler County, two cases of the virus were reported on Saturday, making the total cases in the County 90. The patients have been quarantined, and the Butler County Health Department is working to contact anyone who may have been exposed while the patients were active.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, as of Sunday, there are a total of 20,575 cases of the coronavirus in the state, and 997 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

PATTERSON WOMAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION

A Patterson woman was taken into custody in Wayne County on Friday on drug possession charges.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 40 year old Jane Radcliff was arrested on two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and Clonazepam, as well as driving while intoxicated.

Following her arrest, she was transported to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

ROADWAY SCHEDULED TO BE CLOSED IN PEMISCOT COUNTY DURING BRIDGE MAINTENANCE

A roadway in Pemiscot County will be closed while bridge maintenance is being performed.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route C, between Route 614 and County Road 466, will be closed while contractor crews replace the bridge over a drainage ditch.

The work is set to begin on July 6th, and will continue throughout October 15th.

MAN CHARGED IN RELATION TO SHOOTING INVESTIGATION IN RIPLEY COUNTY

A man has been charged with murder in relation to a shooting investigation in Doniphan.

According to officials from the Doniphan Police Department, 64 year old Donald Mischka was arrested on two murder charges - 1st and 2nd degree, as well as two charges on armed criminal action.

These charges stem from an investigation made after authorities responded to a call from Mischka stating that he had shot his wife, 60 year old Susan Mischka, at his home. After her body was located, Donald Mischka was located and taken into police custody.

Authorities report that he had told officials his wife had mental health problems, and that she had asked him to kill her. However, Mischka had previously stated that she had shot herself, and evidence at the scene did not match his claim.

The investigation on this incident is currently ongoing.

According to the Butler County Health Department, the additional cases have risen the County’s total to 87, 45 of which have yet to recover. The patients are in self quarantine, and the department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and contagious.

In Missouri, as of Thursday, there are a total of 19,421 cases of the virus in the state, and 982 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

AREA DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY

A Poplar Bluff resident was injured from a vehicle crash in Butler County on Thursday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the crash took place on Highway B, east of Poplar Bluff, where a traveling vehicle ran off the roadway before striking an embankment and fence.

The driver suffered moderate injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT SEARCHING FOR BREAK IN SUSPECT

Authorities with the Poplar Bluff Police Department are searching for a suspect in a break in at a local business.

According to the department, a person was caught on video surveillance breaking through the door of an area business around midnight on Thursday. The video is available on the Poplar Bluff Police Department’s Facebook page.

TWO ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION

Two women were arrested in Wayne County on Wednesday on methamphetamine possession.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 36 year old Christina Tanner, of Greenville, and 43 year old Felicia Gardner, of Wappapello, were taken into custody on a felony charge on possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, as well as unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

They were both transported to the Wayne County Jail following their arrests.

INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN WAYNE COUNTY

Injuries were reported following a Wayne County vehicle crash on Thursday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling down Route A, north of Williamsville, before it ran off the left side of the road. The driver managed to return to the roadway, but then ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole.

The driver received moderate injuries as a result of the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

THREE MORE CASES OF COVID-19 CONFIRMED IN BUTLER COUNTY

More cases of the coronavirus continue to be reported in Butler County.

According to the Butler County Health Department, three additional cases have been reported since Wednesday, raising the County’s total to 84. The patients have been quarantined, and the department will be working to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Wednesday, there are a total of 18,868 confirmed cases in the state, and 975 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

THREE JUVENILES, ONE MAN INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN RIPLEY COUNTY

Three juveniles and one man were injured as a result of a vehicle crash in Ripley County on Wednesday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the crash happened on US 160, west of Doniphan, where a vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a tree.

The three young occupants of the vehicle suffered minor injuries, while the driver was seriously injured as a result of the crash. The three juveniles were transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital, and the driver was flown to a Memphis hospital for treatment.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT SEARCHING FOR THEFT SUSPECT

The Poplar Bluff Police Department is searching for a suspect in a theft investigation.

According to the department, a male suspect was caught on video surveillance entering and stealing from a local storefront. The video footage is available on the Poplar Bluff Police Department’s Facebook page.

ROAD WORK SCHEDULED IN DUNKLIN, NEW MADRID AND MISSISSIPPI COUNTIES

Roadside projects are scheduled for today in Dunklin, New Madrid, and Mississippi Counties.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route 108 in Dunklin County, at the junction of Route 164 and Route 108, will be closed from 6 am to 4:30 pm today while contractor crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway.

Additionally, a section of Westbound Route 60 in Mississippi and New Madrid Counties, from Route 57 in Mississippi to Route 61 in New Madrid, will be reduced to one lane while undergoing pavement repairs. The work is set to begin today, and continue throughout July 25th.

TWO INJURED FROM ROADWAY COLLISION IN BUTLER COUNTY

Two were injured from a roadway collision in Butler County on Wednesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling down Route N, south of Oglesville, where it struck an animal that was crossing the roadway.

The driver, and an occupant, of the vehicle received minor injuries from the crash, and were transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

MAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES

A Van Buren man was taken into custody in Wayne County on Wednesday on drug related charges.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 30 year old Jonathan Dawson was arrested on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – clonazepam, as well as a charge on unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Wayne County Jail.

TWO OCCUPANTS INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE COLLISION IN WAYNE COUNTY

Two injuries were reported from a collision in Wayne County on Monday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that a vehicle was traveling down Highway 34, at Business 67, before it failed to yield to another oncoming vehicle and struck the truck’s trailer at the intersection.

Two occupants of the first vehicle suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident, and both were transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

MIDDAY STRUCTURE FIRE REPORTED FROM KENNETT HOME

A structure fire was reported at a Kennett home on Tuesday.

According to officials with the Kennett Fire Department, the department was called to a home on South Jackson Street, which had smoke burning from the attic when crews arrived at the scene.

Few details are available at this time, however the occupant of the home was not injured.

OFFICIALS ACROSS MISSOURI RECOMMENDING RESIDENTS STAY SAFE WHILE USING FIREWORKS

As the 4th of July is drawing closer, officials across the state are urging residents to stay cautious while using fireworks.

The Missouri Department of Public Safety recommends those who use consumer fireworks to only use them in large, open spaces, and to keep a hose or water nearby in the event of a fire. It is also recommended that children should be kept at a safe distance, and that fireworks should never be used while consuming alcohol.

Even a small sparkler burns at around 2,000 degrees, and can easily catch clothing on fire, and leave individuals with severe burns. While fireworks are a fun recreational activity, authorities remind users to stay safe during this time.

ROADWAY IN STODDARD COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION DURING REPAIRS

A roadway in Stoddard County will be reduced while undergoing repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route U, from County Road 675 to Goldston Street, in Powe, will be reduced to one lane while crews perform drainage repairs.

The work is scheduled to take place today from 7 am to 4 pm.

DRIVER INJURED FROM VEHICLE CRASH IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

A driver was injured in a vehicle crash in Pemiscot County on Tuesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Route J, north of Route U, where a vehicle swerved to avoid an animal in the roadway, causing it to overcorrect and run off the roadway.

The driver suffered minor injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Hayti hospital for treatment.

A new city manager for the city of Poplar Bluff was selected on Monday.

The Poplar Bluff City Council announced yesterday that Matt Winters, who has been an associate director of the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission since 2008, was unanimously voted to replace current City Manager Mark Massingham, who announced his retirement last week.

Winters will officially take the position on July 11th.

MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL ENCOURAGES WATER SAFETY

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is encouraging residents to keep safe and cautious when engaging in activities in the water.

The patrol recently released safety tips for swimming, boating, and floating, which include wearing a life jacket while around and in the water, keeping an eye on weather conditions and river levels, and paying attention to other transports and boats while operating a water-craft.

The Patrol’s emergency report line is available to anyone who needs help or sees criminal action, and can be contacted by calling 1-800-525-5555.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE COLLISION IN BUTLER COUNTY

A driver was injured in a vehicle collision in Butler County on Monday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Route 67 southbound, south of Route JJ, where a vehicle struck the rear of another traveling vehicle.

The 50 year old driver suffered serious injuries from the collision, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

TWO NEW CASES OF COVID-19 CONFIRMED IN BUTLER COUNTY

More cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Butler County.

According to the Butler County Health Department, two new cases of the virus were reported on Monday, making the County’s total cases 80. Of them, 41 have recovered. The patients have been quarantined, and the department will be working to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the disease while the patients were active.

In Missouri, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, there are a total of 18,143 COVID-19 cases in the state as of Monday, and 961 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

PARAGOULD WOMAN FOUND DROWNED IN SPRING RIVER, ARKANSAS

A Paragould woman was found drowned in the Spring River on Monday.

Officials with the Paragould Police Department report that 39 year old Melissa Summitt’s body was found after Sharp County authorities received a call on Sunday about a drowning. Officers and firefighter crews were dispatched to search for Summitt’s body, however was unsuccessful until they managed to send a dive team into the river after slowing the water flow.

Authorities are urging residents to use proper caution, and to wear life preservers when treading water on rivers or lakes, especially during changing or hazardous weather conditions.

ILLINOIS WOMAN ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION

A woman was taken into custody in New Madrid County on methamphetamine possession.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 38 year old Denee Barbee, of Troy, Illinois, was arrested on a felony charge for possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while intoxicated – drugs.

Following her arrest, she was transported to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

DRIVER KILLED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

A Tallapoosa driver was killed from a vehicle crash in New Madrid County on Friday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling down Route 62, west of Route J, before it ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a ditch, causing it to overturn and catch fire.

The 60 year old driver, Danny Summerton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

BUTLER COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT OFFERING FREE COVID-19 TESTING

The Butler County Health Department is offering coronavirus tests through the next few months.

According to the Department, testing for COVID-19 will be performed for residents at the Butler County Health Department building throughout June and July. Testing will be performed through nasopharyngeal swabs.

To register for a test, you must be 16 years of age or older. Registration is available at www.ButlerCountyHealth.org

AREA RESIDENT ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES

A Poplar Bluff resident was taken into custody in Stoddard County on drug related charges.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 20 year old Shannon Hatcher was arrested on felony possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, as well as unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following her arrest, she was transported to the Stoddard County Jail.

ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI TOTAL NOW OVER 18,000

More cases of the coronavirus have been reported over the weekend, while the total cases in Missouri have reached over 18,000.

According to the Butler County Health Department, 3 cases have been reported since Friday, raising the County’s total to 78. The patients have been quarantined, and the department is working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active.

In Missouri, as of Sunday, there are a total of 18,003 cases of COVID-19 in the state, and 956 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

DEXTER WOMAN CHARGED ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION IN BUTLER COUNTY

A Dexter woman was arrested in Butler County on Sunday for methamphetamine possession.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol say that 25 year old Autumn Williams was taken into custody on possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, and possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana.

She was also charged on unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Williams was transported to the Butler County Jail following her arrest.

INJURIES REPORTED FROM VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY

Injuries were reported from a Butler County vehicle crash on Saturday.

According to officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Highway O, north of Poplar Bluff, where a vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver of the vehicle suffered moderate injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

POPLAR BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION TO BE HELD AT BLACK RIVER COLISEUM 

The Poplar Bluff High School’s Graduation Ceremony has been scheduled to take place at the Black River Coliseum. 

According to a post by the High School, the ceremony will be held at the Coliseum on Tuesday, starting at 7 pm, and will be broadcast live through the school’s Facebook page. Admittance to the ceremony will be by ticket only. 

The school’s Prom will also be held at the Coliseum, from 7 through 11 pm on Saturday.

TOTAL CASES OF CORONAVIRUS IN BUTLER COUNTY CONTINUES TO RISE

The total number of cases of the COVID-19 virus in Butler County have continued to increase. 

According to the Butler County Health Department, four new cases of the disease were reported Thursday, raising the County’s total cases to 71. The patients have been quarantined, and the department will be working to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active. 

Of the 71 cases, one is hospitalized, 29 are in self-isolation, and 41 have recovered.

ROADWAY IN STODDARD COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION

A roadway in Stoddard County will be reduced while several projects take place. 

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, various locations across Route WW will be reduced with a 10-foot width restriction while the multiple road projects are underway, including pavement repairs from Route 60 to Route J. 

The work is set to begin today, and will continue through July 15th, from 6 am to 6 pm each day.

DOWNTOWN POPLAR BLUFF HOSTING MEETING FOR REVITALIZATION METHOD

Downtown Poplar Bluff will be hosting a project meeting next week. 

According to the district, the meeting will be joined by Downtown Strategies, and will be used to work with the community to make a strategic plan to revitalize, enhance, and improve Downtown Poplar Bluff. Participation and attendance to the event is encouraged. 

The meetings will be held on Wednesday, in the front room from the lobby in the Black River Coliseum, from 1 to 5:30 pm.

ROADWAY IN NEW MADRID AND MISSISSIPPI COUNTIES TO BE REDUCED FOR ROAD WORK

A stretch of road through New Madrid and Mississippi Counties will be reduced while undergoing repairs. 

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Westbound Route 60, from Route 57 in Mississippi County to Route 61 in New Madrid, will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction while contractor crews perform pavement repairs. 

The work is scheduled to start on Thursday, June 25th, and continue through July 25th, from 7 am to 7 pm each day.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE IN RELATION TO DEATH CASE

A Poplar Bluff man was sentenced to life in prison in relation to a 2016 murder case.

According to officials with the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, 43 year old Eric Wyatt was sentenced on Wednesday, in regards to his September 2019 conviction of 1st degree murder and armed criminal action, for the 2016 death case of Marion Carter.

These charges stem from an investigation made after Carter’s body was found inside of her home, where investigators searched Wyatt’s home after he fled on foot. The search resulted in them finding several clothing items with blood stains, and Carter’s bank card. A baseball bat used in the homicide was found later.

TOTAL CASES OF COVID-19 IN MISSOURI CONTINUE TO RISE

The total cases of the coronavirus in Missouri have continued to increase.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, as of Wednesday, there are a total of 16,625 cases of COVID-19 in Missouri, and 909 deaths in the state have been directly linked to the disease.

MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES

A man was arrested in Stoddard County on Wednesday on drug related charges.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Office, 52 year old Richard Chadd, of Matthews, was booked on a charge on possession of a controlled substance- except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid.

He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, with no bond.

KENNETT WOMAN CHARGED IN RELATION TO MURDER CASE

A Kennett woman has been charged with murder in relation to a death case in Mississippi County, Arkansas on Monday.

According to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office, 35 year old Yazmin Delepaz was charged with a 2nd degree murder charge in connection to the murder of her husband, Cesar Casas-Garcia.

This charge comes from an investigation after authorities responded to a call about a dead body found behind an abandoned building, who was later identified as Casas-Garcia.

Investigators visited a Kennett home to tell his next of kin, however found what seemed to be blood underneath the home’s garage. After a search of the home, authorities found spattered blood and blood stains, and it was revealed that Delepaz and Casas-Garcia were the only ones in the house before he was found deceased.

Delepaz was transported to the Dunklin County Jail after her arrest, and is being held with no bond.

MISSOURI GOVERNOR REQUESTS MAJOR DISASTER DECLARATION

Missouri Governor Mike Parson has requested for approval of a major disaster declaration for Missouri.

The declaration will be used for federal assistance of multiple Counties for the damage caused by the severe storms and tornadoes that struck the state in early May.

The assistance is meant to provide reimbursement for response and recovery costs, such as repair costs for damaged roads, buildings, bridges, and infrastructure.

The Counties that will be gaining Public Assistance include Butler, Carter, Dunklin, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Ripley, Stoddard, and Wayne Counties.

TWO INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

Two people were injured in a vehicle crash in New Madrid County on Wednesday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that a vehicle was traveling down Route 153, north of Parma, before it ran off the roadway and struck an embankment, causing it to overturn.

The driver of the vehicle suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital, while an occupant of the vehicle was seriously injured, and flown to a Memphis hospital for treatment.

DRIVER KILLED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN CARTER COUNTY

A driver was killed in a vehicle crash in Carter County on Tuesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling down Highway A, east of Ellsinore, before it overcorrected and traveled across the roadway before striking a tree- resulting in the driver being ejected from the vehicle.

The driver, 29 year old Tyler Phelps, was pronounced dead at the scene.

MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON MURDER AND MULTIPLE ASSAULT CHARGES

A Sikeston man was taken into custody in Stoddard County on Tuesday for a murder chare, as well as multiple assault charges.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 20 year old Tyshonne Williams was booked on a Mississippi County warrant for 1st degree murder, as well as seven counts of 1st degree assault or attempt – serious physical injury or special victim.

He was also charged on seven counts of armed criminal action, and delivery of 35 grams or less of marijuana or synthetic cannabinoid.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Stoddard County Jail on no bond.

POPLAR BLUFF CITY MANAGER ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

Poplar Bluff City Manager Mark Massingham has officially announced his retirement.

The announcement was made after a closed session vote on Monday, but the decision for him to retire had already been decided in February. However, the movement was delayed due to the ongoing threat of the COVID-19 virus pandemic.

Massingham started working as the city’s manager in 2015, and he will be officially retired on July 10th.

MAN INJURED FROM GUNFIRE DAMAGE FOLLOWING KENNETT ROBBERY

A man from Kennett was injured from gunfire that came from a robbery in Kennett on Sunday.

According to the Kennett Police Department, a 54 year old resident reported to police that an individual approached him before firing off a round from his firearm, followed by the suspect stealing the resident’s wallet and running away.

The suspect was described by the victim as a black male, wearing a black hoodie and a face mask. The investigation into this case is currently ongoing.

INJURIES REPORTED FROM VEHICLE CRASH IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

Injuries were reported following a vehicle crash in New Madrid County on Tuesday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the incident occurred on Route 62, west of Risco, where a vehicle was traveling down the roadway while overtaking another vehicle when it attempted to make a left turn, causing it to be struck by the other car.

The driver suffered moderate injuries from the crash, and was transported to a hospital in Sikeston for treatment.

DRIVER KILLED FROM VEHICLE COLLISION IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

A driver was killed from a vehicle collision in New Madrid County on Monday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that two vehicles were traveling eastbound on Highway F, west of Conran, before one vehicle struck the other in the rear.

The driver of the struck vehicle, 84 year old William Piatt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

SIX NEW CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI CASES NOW OVER 16,000

Six additional cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler County since Monday, and the total cases in Missouri have reached over 16,000.

According to the Butler County Health Department, the six reported cases have increased the County’s total to 65, 41 of which have recovered. The patients are all in self-isolation, and the department will be working to contact anyone who may have come into contact with the patients while they were active.

JUVENILE DRIVER INJURED FROM VEHICLE CRASH IN WAYNE COUNTY

A juvenile driver was seriously injured as a result of a vehicle crash in Wayne County on Monday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident happened on Route P, west of Highway TT, where a vehicle was traveling west on the roadway before running off the left side and striking a culvert, causing the driver to be ejected from the vehicle.

Following the crash, the juvenile driver was flown to a hospital in Memphis for treatment.

COVID-19 TESTING AVAILABLE IN BUTLER COUNTY WEDNESDAY

Testing for the coronavirus will be open Wednesday in Butler County.

Operation Director Amanda Fitzwater with the Butler County Health Department tells KWOC News, in Butler County, testing will be performed at the health department. The testing site will be open starting Wednesday, from 7 am 3 pm.

To have a test performed, you must first register by visiting calling the health department at 573-785-8478. Testing is free to everyone who wants one and individuals must be 16 years or older to be tested.

BASEBALL AND SOCCER PLAYER NAMED POPLAR BLUFF ATHLETES OF THE MONTH FOR MAY

A Poplar Bluff baseball and soccer player have been named as Athletes of the Month for May.

The Mules Booster Club has named Noah Burkey and Emily Nelson of Poplar Bluff High School for the honor.

Burkey, a senior baseball player, pitched three years, throwing 99 strikeouts with an earned run average of 2.01, while batting a .382 his junior year with 44 RBI’s, and was an All-State Honorable Mention. In the classroom, he maintained a 10.2 GPA.

Nelson, a senior soccer player, who scored six goals and three assists. She also won best offense and lettered for two years. She has maintained a 3.87 GPA in the classroom.

EARTHQUAKE REPORTED IN WAYNE COUNTY NEAR POPLAR BLUFF AND WILLIAMSVILLE

An earthquake was reported in Wayne County on Monday morning.

According to the US Geological Survey, the quake was recorded around 7 miles east of Williamsville, and about 14 miles north of Poplar Bluff, at around 6:45 am.

The earthquake measured at a magnitude of 2.5.

WAYNE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT SEARCHING FOR MISSING MAN

Officials with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department are searching for a man who has been missing since May.

According to the Department, Wayne County resident 34 year old Patrick Chapman has been missing since May 1st, and was last seen in the Mill Spring area. He is a white, 5’8 male, with blue eyes and brown hair, and weighs around 155 lbs.

The Sheriff’s Department, along with the County fire department, has sent teams and search parties to find him after his car was located, and anyone with information on Chapman or his whereabouts is asked to contact the department by calling 573-224-3219.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

A driver suffered moderate injuries from a vehicle crash in Dunklin County on Saturday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that a vehicle was traveling down Missouri 53, half a mile north of Campbell, before it ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Following the incident, the driver was flown to a hospital in Cape Girardeau for treatment.

AREA RESIDENT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER SEARCH BY BUTLER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

A Poplar Bluff man was arrested in Butler County on Friday after a search by authorities.

According to officials with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 26 year old Ethan Shaffer was being sought after by the department for an outstanding Butler County warrant, before being located by authorities and taken into custody.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Butler County Jail.

PEDESTRIAN INJURED FROM VEHICLE INCIDENT IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

A man was injured from a vehicle incident in Pemiscot County on Friday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident took place on County Road 344, 1 mile from Caruthersville, where a pedestrian was struck by an oncoming vehicle while it was traveling down the roadway.

The individual was moderately injured from the crash, and was transported to a Pemiscot County hospital.

MARSTON MAN FACING CHARGED IN RELATION TO INFANT DEATH CASE

A Marston man is facing charges in relation to the death case of a one-month old infant.

Few details are available at this time, however officials with the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that resident Skylar Babb has been charged with 2nd degree murder, endangering the welfare of a child, and abuse of a child.

The investigation into this case is currently ongoing.

WAPPAPELLO LAKE BEACHES OPENING THIS WEEKEND

The beaches operated by the Wappapello U.S. Army Corps of engineers will be opening this weekend.

According to the Corps, all swim beaches, including the Peoples Creek, Redman Creek, and Rockwood Point recreation areas, will be opening back for business on Saturday at 7 am.

All Day Use Fee Collections will continue to be suspended until October 1st, and Group Shelter Reservations will only be available online at www.Recreation.Gov.

The Management Office, Visitor Center, and all playgrounds will remain closed to visitors until further notice.

CASH REWARD OFFERED FOR ARREST REGARDING ROBBERY INCIDENT

A reward is being offered for the arrest of a suspect in a Butler County robbery incident on Wednesday.

According to Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs, a suspect entered 63 Package with a semi-automatic handgun, before allegedly pointing the firearm at the clerk and demanding the money in the register. The clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of money before the suspect fled the scene.

The individual is believed to be a white male wearing a dark hoodie, jeans, and sunglasses with a face covering. He was last seen running down Highway 53 towards the nearby McDonald’s.

The Sheriff’s Department is offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the suspect, and can be contacted by calling 573-785-8444.

AREA DRIVER INJURED FROM VEHICLE COLLISION IN BUTLER COUNTY

A Poplar Bluff driver was injured following a vehicle collision in Butler County on Wednesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling down Prairie Rose Lane, east of Township Line, before it struck two other stationary vehicles parked on the road.

The driver suffered minor injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

MAN FACING MURDER CHARGE IN RELATION TO DECEMBER DEATH

A man from Van Buren is facing a murder charge in relation to a death case last year.

According to officials with the Van Buren Police Department, 27 year old Dakota Taylor faces a charge on second degree murder, as well as armed criminal action.

These charges stem from an incident in December of 2019, where authorities responded to a call at the home of 58 year old Kathryn Hall, who was found with multiple blunt-force injuries, as well as a non-fatal stab wound.

At the time, Taylor reported that he had been in an altercation with his mother, where she came at him with a knife, before Taylor struck her in the head with a baseball bat.

Taylor is currently being held in custody, and no date has been set for his next court appearance.

COVID-19 TESTING AVAILABLE IN CARTER AND RIPLEY COUNTIES TODAY

Testing sites for the coronavirus will be open today in Carter and Ripley Counties.

In Ripley County, testing will be performed at the Riverfront Park in Doniphan, while the Van Buren High School will be holding a testing site in their parking lot in Carter County. Both sites will be open today, from noon to 7 pm.

To have a test performed, you must first register by visiting www.Health.Mo.Gov, or by calling 1-877-435-8411. Testing is free to everyone who wants one.

ROADWAY IN STODDARD COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION DURING REPAIRS

A roadway in Stoddard County will be reduced while various repairs are being performed.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, various locations of Route F will be reduced with a 10-foot width restriction while several projects are underway, including pavement repairs from Route 60 to Route J.

The various projects will be performed from Monday through July 13th, from 6 am to 6 pm daily.

STRUCTURE DESTROYED FROM BUILDING FIRE IN KENNETT

A structure was destroyed in Kennett following an early morning building fire.

According to the Department, officials responded to a reported fire on the 700 block of Kennett Street at around 5 am, where a storage building was engulfed in flames by the time crews arrived at the scene.

No injuries were reported, and the building was completely destroyed by the flames.

AREA MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGE

A Poplar Bluff man was arrested in Butler County on Wednesday on a drug possession charge.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 31 year old Coti Massie was taken into custody on a felony Butler County warrant for possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Butler County Jail.

TOTAL CASES OF COVID-19 IN MISSOURI NOW OVER 15,000

The total number of cases of the coronavirus in Missouri has reached over 15,000.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, as of Wednesday, there are now a total of 15,187 cases of the COVID-19 virus in Missouri, and 848 deaths inside the state have been directly linked to the disease.

TWO AREA RESIDENTS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON DRUG AND FIREARM CHARGES

Two Poplar Bluff residents were arrested on drug and firearm charges in Poplar Bluff on Monday.

According to Captain David Sutton with the Poplar Bluff Police Department, a traffic stop on Relief Street led to the seizure of drugs, firearms, and drug paraphernalia, resulting in the arrests of 62 year old Kendis Scroggins and 27 year old Alexa Ramos.

Scroggins was booked on a Butler County warrant for failure to register as a sex offender, as well as probation violation, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ramos was arrested on an outstanding warrant for dangerous drugs, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, as well as unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

They were both transported to the Butler County Jail following their arrests, pending review by the Butler County Prosecuting Attorney.

ADDITIONAL CASE OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; TOTAL CASES IN MISSOURI CONTINUE TO RISE

Another case of the coronavirus was reported in Butler County, while the total number of cases in Missouri have continued to rise.

According to the Butler County Health Department, the additional case has risen the county’s total to 51. The patient has been quarantined, and the department is working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the disease while the patient was active.

In Missouri, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, as of Tuesday, there are a total of 14,913 cases of the COVID-19 virus in the state, and 840 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING BUTLER COUNTY VEHICLE COLLISION

A driver was injured in a vehicle crash in Butler County on Tuesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling down US 67, north of Poplar Bluff, where it failed to yield and struck the drivers side of another oncoming car.

The driver of the struck vehicle suffered minor injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

AREA MAN FACES DOMESTIC ASSAULT CHARGES FOLLOWING WEAPON ATTACK

A Poplar Bluff resident is facing assault related charges after reportedly attacking another person with a hatchet on Monday.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, officers responded to a call on the 1900 block of Glendale Road, where resident Toby Lacey reported to authorities that another individual – 33 year old Matthew Clatt - was having a seizure in Lacey’s basement.

Clatt was found laying on a couch with a 3 inch long laceration to his knee, as well as lacerations to his neck and forearm. He was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

After being sent to an emergency room, Clatt reported to authorities that Lacey had assaulted him with a camping hatchet while they were allegedly fighting, and that he was threatened by Lacey to tell authorities he was having a seizure. He later allegedly lied to officials, stating that Clatt injured himself while abusing heroin.

Following the incident, Lacey was booked at the Butler County Jail on a charge on suspicion of 1st degree domestic assault, and the investigation into the situation is ongoing.

INJURIES REPORTED FROM VEHICLE CRASH IN WAYNE COUNTY

A vehicle crash in Wayne County on Monday resulted in one driver being injured.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the crash occurred on County Road 502, east of Greenville, where a vehicle was traveling down the roadway before sliding and running off the right side of the road, causing it to strike an embankment and overturn.

The driver of the vehicle was moderately injured from the crash, and was transported to a hospital in Poplar Bluff for treatment.

ROAD WORK SCHEDULED IN BUTLER AND STODDARD COUNTIES

There will be road work performed on roads in Butler and Stoddard Counties.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, various locations on Route CC in Butler County will be reduced with a 10-foot width restriction while improvement projects are being performed, including pavement repairs from Route 51 to Route 53. The work is set to start today, and will continue through July 2nd, from 6 am to 6 pm daily.

Additionally, a section of Route 60 in Stoddard County, from County Road 587 to Route AH, will be reduced while MoDOT crews perform drainage repairs. The work is scheduled for today through Thursday, from 7 am to 4 pm each day.

BUTLER COUNTY COURTHOUSE CLOSES OFFICES AFTER SECOND EMPLOYEE TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

The Butler County Courthouse has temporarily closed its doors after a second employee tested positive for the coronavirus.

Several of the offices will be closed for the next 10 days, during which a professional cleaning service team will be thoroughly cleaning the building in an effort to halt any further spread of the disease.

Including the employee, three additional cases of the virus have been reported in Butler County. The patients have self-quarantined themselves in their homes, and the health department will be monitoring the cases. The department will be working with the CDC to identify and contact anyone who may have come into contact with the patients while they were active.

In Missouri, as of Monday, there are a total of 14,734 cases of the coronavirus in the state, and 819 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

POPLAR BLUFF RESIDENT SENTENCED TO FEDERAL PRISON ON DRUG AND FIREARM CHARGES

A Poplar Bluff man was sentenced to time in federal prison on drug and firearm charges on Monday.

According to officials with the Poplar Bluff police Department, 20 year old Payten Ice was sentenced on three counts of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, one charge on distribution of methamphetamine, and a charge on possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

These charges come from several incidents, including Ice being found with methamphetamine which he intended to distribute and a 9mm pistol in September of 2018, as well as a report that he sold methamphetamine to an individual working with police in December of 2018.

When he was stopped by law enforcement officers following the December incident, he was found with 10 grams of methamphetamine.

Finally, in March of 2019, he was pulled over in a traffic stop, and was again found with methamphetamine, as well as a firearm.

On these charges, Ice has been sentenced to six years in federal prison, as well as a three year period of supervised release after his sentence is over.

HANSON MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE CHARGE

A man from Kentucky was arrested on methamphetamine possession in Stoddard County on Sunday.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 63 year old William Lohse was taken into custody for the felony charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and unlawful use of a weapon, as well as a charge on possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Stoddard County Jail.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN CARTER COUNTY

A driver was injured as a result of a vehicle crash in Carter County on Monday.

According to officials from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling down Highway M, north of Van Buren, where it ran off the right side of the roadway and struck six trees.

The elderly driver was seriously injured from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

COVID-19 TESTING AVAILABLE IN MULTIPLE SOUTHEAST MISSOURI COUNTIES

Several Counties in Southeast Missouri will be holding COVID-19 tests this week.

The Butler County Health Department will be hosting testing by appointment only, which can be scheduled by calling the department at 573-785-8478. Individuals must be 16 years or older to be tested.

Testing for the coronavirus will also be available in Stoddard County on Wednesday at the Lighthouse Church in Dexter, from 7 am to 3 pm.

In Ripley County, testing will be performed from noon to 7 pm at the Riverfront Park in Doniphan on Thursday.

The Van Buren High School in Carter County will also be holding testing on Thursday, from noon to 7 pm.

FORMER ESCAPED SUSPECT BACK IN POLICE CUSTODY

The Caruthersville Police Department has arrested a formerly escaped suspect.

According to the department, Natavian Luster, who was being detained early Monday morning in the 600 block of Henrietta, in Caruthersville, ran from officers and evaded arrest. He was in wrist restraints when he fled from authorities.

Following his re-arrest, Luster was charged with vehicle burglary, with a formal charge on resisting arrest.

KENNETT MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON ASSAULT CHARGES

A Kennett man was arrested in Paragould on assault and criminal action charges.

According to the Paragould Police Department, Juan Felix reportedly broke into a fight with another person on the 3700 block of Shelby Drive on May 25th, where he stabbed at and injured the individual with a screwdriver.

Before leaving the scene, he backed his truck into the victims car, and left before police were able to arrive.

Felix was later taken into custody on an aggravated assault and criminal mischief charge, and was held on a $5,000 cash only bond.

WOMAN INJURED FROM VEHICLE CRASH IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

A woman was injured in a vehicle crash that took place in Dunklin County on Monday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Route D, east of Steele, where a vehicle overcorrected and overturned on the roadway.

The female driver was moderately injured from the crash, and was transported to a Tennessee hospital for treatment.

FLOOD WATCH PLACED IN EFFECT FOR PORTION OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

A flash flood watch has been put in effect for a portion of Southeast Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a flash flood watch will be in effect for multiple areas, including Bollinger, Butler, Carter, Dunklin, Ripley, Stoddard, and Wayne Counties. The watch will be in effect starting this evening, and will continue through Tuesday evening.

Heavy rainfall resulting from the Tropical Storm Cristobal will bring around one or two and a half inches of rainfall to the Ozark Foothills of Southeast Missouri, and flash flooding of small streams and rivers is also possible.

Anyone traversing these areas is advised to watch for flooded roadways, and to exercise caution when driving.

MISSING PERSON REPORTED OUT OF PEMISCOT COUNTY

A man has been reported missing out of Pemiscot County since last week.

According to the Steele Police Department, the missing person is 35 year old Marc Fullerton, who was last seen in Pemiscot County on June 3rd. He was last seen wearing only black shorts, and has skull ring tattoos, and a full-length skull on both arms. He recently had all his teeth pulled out.

Two area drivers were injured following a vehicle crash in Butler County on Sunday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that a vehicle was traveling down County Road 468, half a mile southwest of Poplar Bluff, before it was struck by another oncoming vehicle head-on.

The driver of the first vehicle was seriously injured, and the other driver suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

THREE CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI CASES NEAR 15,000

Three additional cases of the coronavirus have been reported in Butler County, and the total cases in Missouri is nearing 15,000.

According to the Butler County Health Department, the new cases have risen the County’s total to 48, and the patients have all been quarantined. The department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active.

THREE INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE COLLISION IN WAYNE COUNTY

Three people were injured in a vehicle crash in Wayne County on Sunday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Missouri 34 and Highway Y, where a vehicle attempted to cross the roadway before it was struck by another oncoming vehicle.

Both drivers suffered moderate injuries, and an occupant of the first vehicle received minor injuries as a result of the crash. They were all transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

MAN ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES

A man was taken into custody in New Madrid County on Saturday on drug related charges.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office, 25 year old Dequandric Anderson, of Flint, Michigan, was arrested on a felony charge on 1st degree drug trafficking.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

ROADWAY IN RIPLEY COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION

A roadway in Ripley County is slated to be reduced while undergoing maintenance.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route E, from Route 142 to the Arkansas State Line, will be reduced with a 10-foot width restriction while contractor crews overlay the roadway.

The work is scheduled to start today, and will continue through June 22nd, from 6 am to 7 pm daily.
