NEW INVASIVE FISH FOUND IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
A species of invasive fish has been found in Southeast Missouri.
Fisheries management biologists with the Missouri Department of Conservation have confirmed that an angler caught a Northern snakehead from a borrow ditch within the St. Francis River levees in Dunklin County last month.

The Northern Snakehead was brought for private fish farming in Monroe County, Arkansas in 2000, before the ban was in place, and escaped from there into Arkansas waterways.
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission most recently collected a Northern snakehead from the St. Francis River drainage near Lake City, Arkansas in May of 2018.
MDC sampling efforts in the area where the angler caught this fish yielded no additional snakeheads, which means this species may not be well established in Missouri yet.
The MDC is encouraging anglers to not release a Northern snakehead alive if they catch one. Anglers are asked to report any sightings of the invasive fish to MDC’s Southeast Regional Office at (573)290-5858.

POSSIBILITY OF SEVERE WEATHER TODAY IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
A line of strong storms entered Southeast Missouri early this morning and weather officials say that chances of severe weather could persist throughout today.
KWOC News spoke with National Weather Service Warning Coordination Meteorologist, Rick Shanklin, about today’s weather.
Rick Shanklin:
Yeah we're looking at a chance of severe thunderstorms for today, in fact we have a level two of level five risk for severe thunderstorms for this part of Missouri. And just a reminder, anytime we talk about severe thunderstorms we’re talking about storms that produce winds of at least 60 miles an hour or hail one inch in diameter or tornadoes. So again that possibility exists for today, a level two of level five. We’ll have to watch the course of the morning how much shower and thunderstorm activity we have how much cloud cover, because that would come into play as far as kind of putting a lid on any thunderstorm activity or at least severe thunderstorm activity, if we have enough of that. If not, as we become more unstable this afternoon and into this evening, we could see thunderstorms develop again and some of those possibly become severe.
