ONE SERIOUSLY INJURED IN BUTLER COUNTY WRECK


A local man was badly injured in a wreck Friday night in Butler County. 

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 69 year old Billy Ward, of Poplar Bluff, was driving on Route M near US 67 when his vehicle ran off the side of the road and struck several trees.

TWO PIGGOTT RESIDENTS ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY

Two Piggott residents were arrested last night in Butler County.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 40 year old Jessica Whiteside and 21 year old Jonathan Morgan were both taken into custody at around 9 pm on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Morgan is facing an additional felony charge of 2nd degree assault on a law enforcement officer.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, both were arrested following a pursuit that started in Northeast Arkansas and ended by Brown Chapel Church in the Broseley area. They have been lodged in the Butler County Justice Center.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN FACING METH CHARGE OUT OF RIPLEY COUNTY

Authorities in Ripley County have arrested a Poplar Bluff man on a felony meth charge.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 56 year old Douglas Herzog was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine.

Herzog is also facing a charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following the arrest, Herzog was held at the Ripley County Jail.

POPLAR BLUFF STUDENT DIAGNOSED WITH HEPATITIS A

Preventative measures have been taken at the Poplar Bluff Junior High School after a student was diagnosed with Hepatitis A. 

According to the Butler County Health Department, the Poplar Bluff R-1 Nursing Department has no reason to suspect that anyone else has been compromised by the virus, which was contracted outside of the education environment, and the risk of student to student transmission is low.

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY A VEHICLE IN HAYTI

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle early this morning in Pemiscot County. 

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 23 year old Joshua Woods, of Hayti, was hit by a vehicle at around 2 am on South 4th Street in Hayti. 

Woods suffered moderate injuries and was taken to an area hospital. No injuries were listed for the driver of the vehicle.

ARKANSAS MAN FACING FELONY METH CHARGE OUT OF BUTLER COUNTY

A Northeast Arkansas man is facing a felony meth charge following his arrest over the weekend in Butler County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 34 year old Quinton Williams, of Blytheville, was arrested shortly before 11 pm Saturday night on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute for methamphetamine.

Williams is also facing a charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Following his arrest, Williams was held at the Butler County Jail.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CONFIRMS TWO TORNADOS HIT SOUTHEAST MISSOURI ON TUESDAY


Officials with the National Weather Service have confirmed that two tornados occurred in Southeast Missouri during Tuesday’s storms. 

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, an EF 1 tornado with estimated peak winds of 110 miles per hour touched down three miles northwest of Matthews at 6:14 pm Tuesday and lifted three minutes later one mile northwest of Matthews.

MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN WAYNE COUNTY ON FELONY FORGERY CHARGE

A St. Louis man is facing multiple felony charges following his arrest Wednesday in Wayne County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 33 year old Christopher Feller was taken into custody at around 8:30 am Wednesday morning on felony charges of forgery and possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

He is also facing charges of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana.

Following the arrest, Feller was held at the Wayne County Jail.

ONE DEAD, ANOTHER INJURED, FOLLOWING WRECK IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS


One woman has died, while another is injured, following a wreck in Northeast Arkansas. 

According to the Arkansas State Police, a vehicle, driven by 46 year old Tammy Massey, of Paragould, crossed the center line of Highway 412 in Greene County yesterday afternoon and struck another vehicle head on.

A number of local races and propositions will be voted on today by citizens in Missouri.

There are city council and school board elections in multiple communities in Southeast Missouri.

School propositions are also on the ballot for the Twin Rivers, Bloomfield, Kennett, and Pemiscot County school districts.

REWARD OFFERED FOR INFORMATION ABOUT DEXTER BURGLARIES

A reward is being offered for information in connection to a string of burglaries in the Dexter area.

According to the Dexter Police Department, an investigation is ongoing into numerous business burglaries since January 8th. The suspects are forcibly entering businesses and stealing money.

The Dexter Police Department has released multiple photos and videos related to the crimes that are currently available on the KWOC Facebook page.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators.

SUSPECT IN CUSTODY IN MALDEN HOMICIDE CASE

Authorities in Malden say a homicide suspect is in custody.

30 year old David Lee Anderson was wanted in connection to the Wednesday shooting death of Geoffrey Wright.

Officials with the Malden Police Department say, officers responded to a shots fired call, were they found an unresponsive male in a vehicle.

Anderson was located at a residence in Hayti Heights and is facing charges of 1st degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm. He is being held in the Dunklin County Jail.

IDENTITY RELEASED OF VICTIM IN DUNKLIN COUNTY HOMICIDE

Authorities have released the name of a man killed yesterday in Dunklin County.

The body of Geoffrey Wright, of Malden, was found Wednesday afternoon. He had been reportedly shot multiple times in a vehicle. Wright’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

Authorities are searching for 30 year old David Lee Anderson of Poplar Bluff in connection to the death. Anderson is described as a black male, 5’9 inches tall, weighs 185 pounds with a scar on his upper lip. He is also being considered armed and dangerous.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY ASSAULT AND DRUG CHARGES

A Poplar Bluff man is facing multiple felony charges following his arrest in Butler County.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 32 year old David Smith was taken into custody at around 3 am Sunday morning, on felony charges of vehicular assault 2nd degree, felony leaving the scene of an accident, and possession of a controlled substance for methamphetamine.

Smith is also facing charges of possession of marijuana – 10 grams or less, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following the arrest, he was taken to the Butler County Jail.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN KILLED IN BULTER COUNTY WRECK

Authorities in Butler County have released the name of a man who was killed in a wreck over the weekend.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, on Sunday morning, 82 year old Alvie Browning, of Poplar Bluff, was driving on US 67 in Butler County, when his vehicle crossed the center line and pulled into the path of another vehicle.

Officials say the wreck occurred at around 9:30 am, 6 miles south of Poplar Bluff.

Browning was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Brian Fugate.

A passenger in the second vehicle was seriously injured and the driver suffered moderate injuries. Both were also taken to an area hospital.

PUBLIC INFORMATION SESSION SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT TO DISCUSS POPLAR BLUFF POLICE ACCREDITATION

A question and answer session has been scheduled for tonight in Poplar Bluff to discuss the upcoming Poplar Bluff Police Department accreditation assessment.

KWOC News spoke with Lieutenant Darron Moore about the assessment. 

LT. DARRON MOORE:

The Poplar Bluff Police Department is scheduled to undergo an on-site assessment as part of the program to retain our international accreditation status by verifying we meet CALEA’S professional standards.  Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, (CALEA), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.  As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer personal testimony or other comments at a public information session that will be held this afternoon at 5:30 p.m.  The session will be conducted in the Community Room of the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce located at 1111 W. Pine or by calling (573) 785-5776 Ext. 1381 or 1382 this afternoon between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.  Comments during this period will be taken by the assessment team and documented for inclusion into the assessment team’s final report.  Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to ten (10) minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards.  A copy of the Standards are available at the Poplar Bluff Police Department.  Individuals who wish to review the various standards should contact me Lt. VIETNAM VETERANS DAY CEREMONY TO BE HELD TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF

A ceremony has been scheduled for today to commemorate Vietnam Veterans Day.

The ceremony by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #1056 will begin at 11 am this morning at the Tinnin Center on the Poplar Bluff campus of Three Rivers College.

Officials say that the event will be free and open to the public.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE SEARCHING FOR MISSING MOTHER AND HER CHILD

Authorities in Poplar Bluff are asking for the public’s help in locating a missing mother and child.

Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tell KWOC News that family members have reported that 32 year old Sara Brown and one year old Geneva Genova, of Poplar Bluff, left a family member’s residence on March 7th and have not been seen since.

Brown last spoke with a family member by phone on March 16th, but refused to provide her location. Family members have expressed concern for Brown and her child due to Brown’s increased paranoia and mental instability.

Brown is believed to be in the Osage Beach, Missouri area, travelling in a white 2009 Cadillac CTS bearing a Missouri registration CL2-G5X.

PUXICO MAN KILLED IN STODDARD COUNTY WRECK

Authorities in Stoddard County have released the name of a man who was killed in a wreck over the weekend.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, on Saturday afternoon, 86 year old Dan Lee, of Puxico, was driving on Route J in Stoddard County when his vehicle ran off the side of the road and struck a tree.

Lee was pronounced dead at the scene by Stoddard County Coroner Kenny Pope.

STRING OF BREAK-INS HITS BUSINESSES IN DEXTER

Multiple businesses have been broken into recently in a Southeast Missouri community.

According to authorities, at least 10 businesses in the Dexter area have been broken into in the past month.

An investigation into the break-ins is underway and anyone who has information about the incidents is asked to contact the Dexter Police Department.
