ONE DEAD, ANOTHER INJURED, FOLLOWING WRECK IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS


One woman has died, while another is injured, following a wreck in Northeast Arkansas. 

According to the Arkansas State Police, a vehicle, driven by 46 year old Tammy Massey, of Paragould, crossed the center line of Highway 412 in Greene County yesterday afternoon and struck another vehicle head on. 

The driver of the second vehicle, 73 year old Laura Chesser, of Beech Grove, was killed in the wreck. 

Massey was injured and transported to an area hospital. 


POPLAR BLUFF MAYOR ED DEGARIS REELECTED TO POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCIL


Poplar Bluff mayor Ed DeGaris will return to the Poplar Bluff City Council. 

DeGaris successfully defended his seat as Poplar Bluff Ward 2 Councilman from challenger Dylan Groves by carrying around 75 percent of the vote. 

DeGaris will be joined by a new face on the council, as Shane Cornman defeated incumbent Philip Crocker for the 4th ward Councilman seat. 

In other area city races, Glen Sedrick was elected Qulin Mayor, Dennis Cox won the race for Doniphan Mayor, and Kimberly Cannon was chosen for Doniphan City Collector. 


TWIN RIVERS PROPOSITION KIDS DEFEATED DURING TUESDAY’S ELECTION


A ballot proposition for the Twin Rivers School District was defeated during Tuesday’s election. 

Over 1200 people voted no yesterday for the Twin Rivers Project KIDS proposition, compared to less than 300 yes votes. The proposition would have increased the tax levy ceiling to provide funds for a new high school and other renovations. 

A school proposition for the Bloomfield School District passed with almost 75 percent of voters voting yes. A proposition also passed in the Kennett School District. 

Voters in Van Buren passed a bond issue for a combined waterworks and sewerage system. 


WIDESPREAD REPORTS OF HAIL DURING TUESDAY STORMS


Tuesday’s storm system brought heavy winds and Tornado Warnings to our area, along with widespread hail. 

Tornado warnings were issued in multiple areas yesterday afternoon and evening including Butler and Stoddard Counties in Southeast Missouri. 

According to the National Weather Service, in New Madrid County, an official reported that two structures were down as well as power poles along State Highway FF. Telephone poles were also reported down in the East Prairie area. 

There were also widespread reports of hail in Southeast Missouri with an estimated three inch size hail reported in the Poplar Bluff area. 


SIKESTON MAN FOUND GUILTY ON DRUG AND FIREARM CHARGES


A Sikeston man is expected to be sentenced this summer after being convicted yesterday on drug and firearm charges.

Sergeant Jon Broom with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety tells KWOC News that 33 year old Rasheik Harris has been found guilty of felon in possession of a firearm and possession of 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.

The charges stem from a traffic stop last year. Sikeston officers found methamphetamine, heroin, cash and a firearm in a vehicle Harris was driving.

Broom says that Harris is expected to be sentenced in Federal Court this July. 


GREENVILLE BOAT RAMP NOW FREE TO USE


Wappapello Lake officials say that an area boat ramp is now free to use. 

According to a post on the Wappapello Lake US Army Corps of Engineers Facebook page, there are no longer day use fees for the Greenville Boat Ramp. 

The dropped fees apply only to the Greenville Boat Ramp. Users are reminded to be safe and wear a life jacket. 


ROUTE 60 REPAIRS TO CONTINUE TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY


East and Westbound Route 60 in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance. 

Officials with MODOT say that the section of roadway to be reduced is located between Route FF and Route 25.

Weather permitting, work will performed today through 4:30 pm.
