HEAT BLAMED FOR LOCAL LANDSCAPER’S DEATH
A Dexter landscaper died over the weekend from working in the heat near Poplar Bluff.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration the worker was assisting in tree-trimming efforts when he became overheated Friday afternoon. The heat index was around 110 degrees at the time.
OSHA says the man’s core body temperature exceeded 108 degrees and he was taken to an area hospital where he died the next day.
The worker was identified as 23 year old Tyler Halsey. OSHA says it was only his fourth day working for the tree service based out of Indiana.
ELLSINORE MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE CHARGE
An Ellsinore man has been arrested in Butler County on a felony charge.
According to the Highway Patrol, 53 year old Daniel Ford was taken into custody Monday evening on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.
Ford is also facing a charge driving while intoxicated.
TEN POUNDS OF MARIJUANA CONFISCATED DURING SEARCH IN RIPLEY COUNTY
Multiple people have been taken into custody after marijuana was found in Ripley County.
According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, ten pounds of marijuana was found, along with other evidence, during the execution of a search warrant.
Officials say that three people have been taken into custody in connection to the search; however their names have not been released.
POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON WARRANT FOR DISTRIBUTION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE
An area man is in custody following his arrest in Stoddard County.
Officials with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department tell us that 40 year old Dennis Fann, of Poplar Bluff, was recently arrested on a warrant for distribution of a controlled substance.
Fann’s bond was set at $35,000 cash only. The Sheriff’s Department says that he was still in jail as of this morning.
METH ARREST MADE MONDAY NIGHT IN WAYNE COUNTY
A Piedmont man is facing charges following his arrest last night in Wayne County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 51 year old William McKinney was arrested at 9:30 pm on charges of felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
McKinney was held in Wayne County following the arrest.
VA MEDICAL CENTER TO HOST LOCAL ART EXHIBIT FOR 9/11 ANNIVERSARY
The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff is looking for local art pieces for a memorial to mark 15th anniversary of 9/11.
The Medical Center is seeking prints, paintings, drawings, digital works, mixed media or even sculptures for the project.
Artists are asked to submit 2 to 3 images of your piece, the title, and size, along with your name and contact information to myhvet@gmail.com.
There is no entry fee and submissions must be received by August 22nd.
Accepted artwork will be displayed at the VA Medical Center during the week of September 5th and also highlighted during the memorial service at the VA Medical Center on September 9th.
ROAD IN WAYNE AND CARTER COUNTIES TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS
Route KK in Wayne and Carter County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.
The road will be closed, except for local traffic only, from Route 34 to Twin Ponds Road.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 5 pm.

MAN FLOWN TO ST. LOUIS HOSPITAL AFTER VEHICLE OVERTURNS AND STRIKES BUILDINGA Farmington man has been flown to a St. Louis hospital following a single vehicle wreck in Iron County.
According to the Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred on Missouri Highway 21, near Arcadia, Friday evening.
A vehicle driven by 55 year old, Todd Milfeld, reportedly ran off the side of the roadway, overturned, and then struck a building.
Milfeld suffered serious injuries and was taken by Air Evac to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.
The Highway Patrol did not release how much damage was done to the building.
WOMAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON ESCAPE FROM CUSTODY WARRANT An Essex woman is in custody following her arrest in Stoddard County.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 27 year old Patricia Leeann Martin was arrested on a warrant out of Iowa for escape from custody.
Officials say Martin is in jail and awaiting extradition at this time.
ROAD PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN WAYNE AND IRON COUNTIES Route 49 in Wayne and Iron Counties will be reduced with a 10 foot width restriction beginning today so contractor crews can mill and perform paving operations.
The section of roadway to be reduced is located from the junction of Route 21/72/49 to Route 34.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Wednesday, August 31st.
KENNETT MAN ARRESTED IN RIPLEY COUNTY ON METH AND MARIJUANA CHARGES A man was taken into custody Saturday evening in Ripley County on meth and marijuana charges.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 30 year old Scotty Pullam, of Kennett, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Pullam was taken to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office on a 24 hour hold.
WOMAN ARRESTED IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS FOR POSSESSION OF CRYSTAL METHAMPHETAMINE Authorities in Northeast Arkansas say that a woman has been taken into custody on a meth charge.
Greene County Sheriff David Carter tells KWOC News that Ashley Galvan was arrested Thursday afternoon for possession of crystal methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Carter says that Galvan was also arrested on four warrants.
SIKESTON MAN FACING DRUG CHARGE FOLLOWING ARREST IN CARTER COUNTY A Sikeston man is facing a felony drug charge in connection to his arrest over the weekend.
According to authorities, 41 year old Matthew Thompson was arrested early Sunday morning in Carter County on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
Thompson is also facing a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Following the arrest, Thompson was taken to the Carter County Jail on a 12 hour hold.
DATE SET FOR 28TH ANNUAL HAVEN HOUSE TRAIL RIDE A date has been set for the 28th Annual Haven House Trail Ride.
The event has been scheduled for Saturday, September 24th. According to the Haven House Facebook page, pledge sheets will begin to be mailed out this Friday to all previous riders.

MAN IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING SHOOTING DEATH IN REYNOLDS COUNTYOne arrest has been made in connection to a shooting death in Reynolds County.
According to authorities, a woman called 911 on Tuesday and said that someone was shooting at her vehicle. When deputies arrived at the scene they entered the home and found a man, later identified as 55 year old James Sumpter, of Bunker, who reportedly told them he had shot and killed a woman.
The victim, Tammy Skiles, was found dead in the home.
Sumpter was arrested and is facing charges of 1st degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action. Bond was set at $1,000,000.
DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE WARRANT Authorities in Stoddard County have taken a Dexter man into custody on a controlled substance warrant.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 52 year old David Allen Burnett was arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Officials say Burnett remained in jail as of this morning on a $7,500 cash only bond.
REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR GOVERNOR TO BE IN POPLAR BLUFF ON FRIDAY One of the candidates for the Republican nomination for Missouri Governor will be speaking with citizens in Poplar Bluff this week.
Catherine Hanaway will be making a stop at the St. Louis Bread Company in Poplar Bluff from 3 to 4 pm on Friday.
Hanaway also has stops planned for this week in other areas of Southeast Missouri.
EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING EXTENDED TO SUNDAY Weather officials have extended the Excessive Heat Warning that is covering most of Southeast Missouri.
According to the National Weather Service, the warning is now in effect through 8 pm on Sunday.
High temperatures and oppressive humidity are expected to push heat indices above 105 degrees today, and possibly over 110 degrees on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Officials say that a heat index of 105 degrees or higher is the level where the body becomes more susceptible to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Anyone who has to be outside is recommended to reschedule strenuous activities to the evening or early morning hours. Remember to also drink plenty of fluids and stay out of the sun if possible.
WOMAN TAKEN TO MEMPHIS HOSPITAL FOLLOWING SHOOTING IN BLYTHEVILLE A woman was injured in a shooting incident in Blytheville.
According to authorities, 31 year old Kenyatta Cook suffered a gunshot wound to her knee during the incident.
Cook was reportedly in a vehicle when the shooting occurred and she was taken to a Memphis hospital for treatment.
A passenger in the vehicle was not injured.
SIXTH ANNUAL ST. JUDE ARCHERY SHOOT AND AUCTION SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 13TH The date has been set for the 6th Annual St. Jude Archery Shoot and Auction.
The event, presented by US Bank, will be held from 8 am to 2 pm on Saturday, August 13th at the Missouri Department of Conservation Archery Range on NN Highway. The event will include novelty shoots, a free youth archery camp, a pop-up archery tournament, and other demonstrations.

ATHLETE PHYSICALS TO BE HELD TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF Poplar Bluff High School and Junior High student athletes can get a free physical tonight at the High School Annex.
Physicals will be conducted beginning at 5:30 pm for athletes in the 7th and 8th grades, beginning at 6:30 for 9th and 10th grades, and beginning at 7:30 for 11th and 12th grades.
First practice dates have also been set for Poplar Bluff High School and Junior High fall sports.
The first practice day for high school athletes is Monday, August 1st. Junior High athletes will follow two week later, on Monday, August 15th.

ALTERCATION ALLEGEDLY LEADS TO SHOTS BEING FIRED IN NEELYVILLEButler County authorities say that shots were reportedly fired Monday during an altercation in Neelyville.
Investigator Wess Popp with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department tells us more about the incident.
WESS POPP:
On Monday at approximately noon, we got a call to Neelyville about shots fired. Officers arrived where they make contact with Dariel Trice. Trice reported that Desean Bell had fired two shots at him. He said that they had met up in the parking lot of video Playhouse where a verbal altercation began. The verbal altercation escalated into a physical altercation where Bell had swung at Mr. Trice and Trice had swung back and hit him. Bell then left the scene assuming he went home. Trice then walked to the Neelyville Park where he again met up with Bell carrying a backpack. Mr. Bell pulled a handgun pointed it at Trice and fired two rounds and immediately leaving the scene. Officers arrived, identified Bell from Trice, and went to Bell’s Apartment. Investigators looked over the scene where they found a green duffel bag hanging from a tree as if thrown into a field. Opened up that bag where they retrieve the handgun. Bell was arrested for assault 1st and unlawful use of a weapon, and is currently housed at the Butler County jail with a $100,000 cash only bond.
Bell is also facing charges of assault of a law enforcement officer in the 3rd degree and 1st degree property damage.
EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING ISSUED FOR PARTS OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI A heat advisory that had been in effect for parts of Southeast Missouri has been upgraded to an Excessive Heat Warning.
The warning was issued this morning by the National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky for parts of Butler, Carter, Ripley, and Wayne Counties. The warning is in effect until 7 pm on Saturday.
Weather officials say that temperatures in the mid and upper 90’s will combine with oppressive humidity to produce heat indices at around 110 degrees.
The heat may be somewhat lower today due to possible cloud cover, but officials say very oppressive heat is expected for Thursday through Saturday.
METHAMPHETAMINE FOUND DURING SEARCH OF NORTHEAST ARKANSAS HOME A man was taken into custody Monday following the search of his home by authorities in Northeast Arkansas.
According to Greene County Sheriff David Carter, the search was conducted by the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and Arkansas Probation and Parole at the home of Ryan Flanrey.
During the search, officers found methamphetamine, syringes, spoons, pipes, and digital scales.
Following the arrest, Flanrey was taken to the Greene County Jail.
AUTHORITIES ARREST WOMAN IN CONNECTION TO SKELETAL REMAINS An investigation is underway in connection to the discovery of skeletal remains at a home in Paragould.
According to authorities, Gloria Tinsely was taken into custody and is facing a charge of abuse of a corpse.
The remains were found Tuesday and belonged to an adult male who has not been identified.
TWO INJURED WHEN VEHICLE HITS TREE NEAR POPLAR BLUFF Two Poplar Bluff teenagers were injured Tuesday night in a single vehicle wreck in Butler County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred on County Road 448 near Poplar Bluff when a vehicle driven by 19 year old Ryan Hatton travelled off of the roadway and struck a tree.
A 15 year old passenger in the vehicle was seriously injured and taken by Air Evac to Elvis Presley Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee.
Hatton suffered minor injuries and was taken to Black River Medical Center.

ONE IN CUSTODY IN CONNECTION TO WEEKEND STABBING IN POPLAR BLUFFA man received non-life threatening injuries during a stabbing incident Saturday night.
Deputy Chief Donnie Trout with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News that a suspect has been taken into custody.
DONNIE TROUT:
On Saturday evening at 11:30 officers responded to the 900 block of Maud Street in reference to a subject having been stabbed. While en route officers Zach Tubb was flagged down by a subject on a bicycle and said someone had attempted to rob him. Communications advised this was the suspect in the stabbing. The suspect was identified as 40 year old Timothy Wayne Williams and he made a spontaneous utterance that it was self-defense. The knife was located on the sidewalk next to his bicycle and he proceeded to tell that he had loaned money to the victim earlier in the day and the victim had been in contact with him stating if he would buy online pharmacy methamphetamine for him they would call the loan even. The victim was later transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Timothy Williams was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action and lodged in the Butler County Justice Center.
Information on the full extent of the victim’s injuries was not available.
IDENTITY RELEASED OF PERSON KILLED IN KENNETT SHOOTING Authorities have released the identity of a man killed over the weekend during a shooting in Kennett.
According to authorities, Shane McCormack was shot during the incident on Sunday. He was taken to an area hospital where he later passed away.
Police have arrested Kenneth Bowles in connection to the incident. Bowles and McCormack had allegedly been involved in an altercation prior to the shooting.
The Kennett Police Department says the investigation has been turned over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control due to a conflict of interest with employees of the City of Kennett.
BRIDGE REPAIRS COULD PROMPT DELAYS ON MISSOURI ROUTE 142 IN BUTLER COUNTY Route 142 in Butler County will be reduced to one lane beginning today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform bridge repairs.
The bridge set for repairs is located between County Road 275 and Route HH.
Weather permitting, work will be performed today through Thursday, from 7 am to 4 pm daily.
POPLAR BLUFF POLICE INVESTIGATING REPORTED ROBBERY Poplar Bluff police are investigating an alleged robbery that left one woman in a coma for several days.
KWOC News spoke with Captain Dave Sutton with the Poplar Bluff Police Department about the investigation.
DAVE SUTTON:
On Sunday afternoon at around 3:30 pm, the Poplar Bluff Police Department received a robbery complaint at the front desk of the police department. Rickie Holloway reported that on July 3rd they found his mother in law, Etta Stockman, disoriented inside her residence in St. Francis, Arkansas, and they took her to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Stockman had broken ribs and bruises and slipped into a coma for several days. When she woke, Stockman said she sustained the injuries when two Hispanic males assaulted her and stole her purse in front of Goody's Clothing Store on the afternoon of Thursday, June 30th. No suspects have been identified and the investigation continues. Anyone with information related to this is asked to contact the Poplar Bluff Police Department at 573-785-5776.
POPLAR BLUFF MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED WHEN HIS VEHICLE STRIKES A BRIDGE IN WAYNE COUNTY A Poplar Bluff man suffered serious injuries Monday after his vehicle struck a bridge in Wayne County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by 26 year old Brian Tumbas, ran off the side of Missouri Highway 49, struck a bridge end, and overturned.
Following the wreck, Tumbas was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
HEAT WAVE CONTINUES IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI Temperatures are reaching dangerous levels in Southeast Missouri and weather officials say there is more to come.
We spoke with Rick Shanklin with the National Weather Service about what we you can expect to see this week.
RICK SHANKLIN:
We are entering into the most prominent Heatwave so far this year across our region. Expected heat indices this week basically in this area to average 105 or greater. For that reason we have a heat advisory that’s in effect and we expect more heat advisories to be issued throughout the course of the week and it’s not out of the question that we could even have an excessive heat warning issued for our region as a result of this persistent Heat Wave across our region. Really not much change all week in the heat and humidity, perhaps a small chance of thunderstorms a couple days this week. Areas to the east of here might see a little bit of a reprieve from the heat on Wednesday but most of us I think are going to see virtually no relief whatsoever throughout the course of the entire week. During all this heat it is extremely important to heed the advice that is provided and that is to not over expose yourself to the heat especially during the heat of the day. Wear lightweight light color clothing, take plenty of breaks, drink plenty of water, plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. And especially when it comes to vehicles one of the concerns we really have is individuals being left in a vehicle. We always say look before you lock that car be sure you haven’t left a pet and certainly not a small child in the vehicle. We lose about 40 children each year in the United States from them being left in vehicles.

ONE DEAD IN CONNECTION TO KENNETT SHOOTINGA shooting in Kennett has left one person dead.
According to the Kennett Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence Sunday afternoon in reference to a shooting, with one person still armed with a firearm.
Officers were able to locate and secure the suspect . The victim was taken to an area hospital where they later passed away.
The identities of the suspect and the victim have not been released.
BODY FOUND IN BLACK RIVER A body found over the weekend has been identified as a missing man.
According to Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller, a boater found the body Saturday in Black River near the landing on Clay County Road 228.
The body has been identified as Dennis Franks. Area residents told police that Franks, a resident of Holland’s Lodge, had not been seen since July 14th.
Miller says that deputies are continuing investigations, however foul play in not suspected at this time.
POPLAR BLUFF MAN FACING FELONY CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE CHARGE A Poplar Bluff man was arrested over the weekend on a felony controlled substance charge.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 29 year old Benjamin Price was arrested in Carter County Sunday afternoon on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.
Price is also facing a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Officials say he was processed and released.

TWO KILLED IN NORHTEAST ARKANSAS WRECK Two people have died following a single vehicle wreck in Northeast Arkansas.
Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller tells us that Clay County 911 received a call Saturday about a one vehicle rollover accident. The caller said that the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.
Miller says that authorities arrived on the scene and put out the fire. Both occupants of the vehicle were found deceased.
The identities of the deceased have not been released, pending results from the Arkansas State Crime Lab. The Arkansas State Police are investigating the incident.
ILLINOIS MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES IN CARTER COUNTY Authorities say an Illinois man was arrested Saturday night in Carter County on multiple felony charges.
32 year old Quentin Donley, of Mahomet, Illinois, was taken into custody on felony charges of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and resisting arrest by fleeing.
Details about the motor vehicle accident were not released. According to authorities, following the arrest Donley was taken to the Carter County Jail on a 12 hour hold.
POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTDOY ON KIDNAPPING WARRANT A Poplar Bluff woman has been arrested on a kidnapping warrant.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 32 year old Jennifer Counts was taken into custody Friday evening on a felony kidnapping warrant out of Ripley County. She also had a Ripley County warrant for failure to appear for theft.
After the arrest, Counts was held in the Butler County Jail.
GOVERNOR NIXON GRANTS PARDON TO MAN WHO PLEADED GUILTY TO STEALING IN STODDARD COUNTY Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has granted a pardon to a man who pled guilty to stealing over 40 years ago.
Nixon announced Friday that Barry Middleton was one of eight people to receive a pardon.
Middleton pleaded guilty to stealing a saddle in Stoddard County in 1970 and was sentenced to 60 days in jail and two years on probation. Following the conviction, Middleton was steadily employed before retiring.
Nixon says that each of the individuals pardoned have taken the right steps to become law-abiding and a contributing member of his or her community, and that a pardon is merited
All of the individuals pardoned were convicted of non-violent offenses.

ONE KILLED, THREE INJURED, IN NEW MADRID COUNTY WRECKA Hayti man is dead and three others are injured following a two vehicle wreck Thursday night in New Madrid County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred on US 61 when a vehicle driven by 44 year old Steven Cameron, of Marston, crossed the center line and struck another vehicle head on.
The driver of the second vehicle, 53 year old Leo House the third was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cameron and a passenger in House’s vehicle suffered serious injuries and were flown to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. A second passenger in House’s vehicle received moderate injuries.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK AT TEMPLE BAPTIST CHURCH IN POPLAR BLUFF Monday will mark the beginning of vacation bible school at a Poplar Bluff church.
The event will be held from 6 pm to 8:30 pm Monday through Friday next week at Temple Baptist Church.

POPLAR BLUFF MULES SOFTBALL SEASONS TICKETS ON SALE Reserved Chairback Seating Season Tickets are now on sale for the Poplar Bluff Mules upcoming softball season.
The season tickets are available for $50 at the Athletic Department.
There are currently six home games on the scheduled and officials say that general admission bleacher seating will also be available for $4 per game.
DRIVERS URGED TO NOT PLAY POKEMON GO WHILE DRIVING Pokemon Go is a game being enjoyed by many in Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas; however authorities are warning players that there is a time and place for enjoying the game.
The Arkansas State Police and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are asking motorists to not play the game, or use their cell phone while driving.
A driver in New York reportedly admitted to having been playing the game when his vehicle struck a tree. He was not seriously injured.
The ASP says drivers should put their phone down and keep their eyes on the road.
WEEK LONG ROAD PROJECT UNDERWAY IN STODDARD COUNTY Route MM in Stoddard County is being reduced to one lane through the middle of next week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.
According to MoDOT, work will take place through Wednesday, July 20th from 7 am to 6 pm each day.
The section of Route MM being reduced is located from Route U to Route J.
ENTRIES BEING ACCEPTED FOR 8TH ANNUAL MULESKINNER GOLF TOURNAMENT Entries for teams are being accepted for the 8th Annual Muleskinner Golf Tournament.
The 4 person scramble tournament will be held on Friday, August 5th at the Westwood Hills Country Club. Organizers say the entry fee is $500 per team, which includes a cart and lunch. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100 per hole.
All proceeds will go to benefit the Poplar Bluff Mules athletics programs.

SPECIAL PROSECUTOR NAMED FOR BEN RESSEL INVESTIGATIONA special prosecutor will be investigating the hit and run incident that took the life of a Poplar Bluff teenager last year.
Butler County Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Barbour requested the special prosecutor for the investigation of Benjamin Ressel in connection to the incident.
The request was granted by Circuit Judge Michael Pritchett earlier this week.
13 year old Heavenly Hafford was hit by two vehicles while crossing a Poplar Bluff road last December. Hafford was killed in the incident.
BODY DISCOVERED IN MISSISSIPPI COUNTY Officials in Mississippi County say a body was found on Wednesday.
The body of a white male was discovered Wednesday evening in a wooded area near East Prairie.
Multiple agencies are conducting an investigation. The identity of the body has not been released.
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI TEENAGER KILLED IN WRECK ON INTERSTATE 55 A Steele teenager has died following a two vehicle wreck Wednesday night in Pemiscot County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred when a vehicle driven by 19 year old Tavarous Lockett struck another vehicle in the rear on Interstate 55.
Lockett’s vehicle then overturned and ejected him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second vehicle ran off the roadway and into a cable barrier. The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
LOCAL MAN ARRESTED AFTER CHARGING AT POLICE OFFICERS A local man was pepper sprayed Wednesday after he reportedly charged at Poplar Bluff Police officers.
We spoke with Captain Dave Sutton with the Poplar Bluff Police Department about the incident.
CAPTAIN DAVE SUTTON:
On Wednesday morning at approximately 1:30 officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department were dispatched to the 2000 block of Thomas Street in reference to a domestic assault. As officers spoke with the adult female victim, the suspect, identified as thirty-five-year-old Jeremy Hunt, began shouting from the yard next door. Hunt charged towards our officers while shouting “draw your gun, you gonna shoot somebody?” Officer Cleveland delivered a short burst of pepper spray to Hunt’s face and he was taken into custody without further incident. Jeremy Hunt was booked in on a charge of resisting arrest and he was later lodged in the Butler County Jail. During the booking process Hunt apologized for his behavior and thanked the officers for handling the call the way they did.
AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATING FIRE AT DEXTER BUSINESS There were no injuries reported following a fire Wednesday morning in Dexter.
According to authorities, the fire affected a building on Vine Street that contained two law offices.
The fire is under investigation and is being considered suspicious.
SEARCH LEADS TO RECOVERY OF SEVERAL STOLEN ITEMS A Rector man has been taken into custody after authorities reportedly found multiple stolen items at his residence.
According to Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller, on Saturday dispatch received a call of a break in at an area residence. The complainant stated that a four wheeler and .22 caliber rifle were stolen from his property along with miscellaneous camping and hunting supplies.
Residents in the area told authorities that they had seen a four wheeler matching the description of the one reported stolen, being driven by 44 year old Bradley McDaniel, of Rector.
Clay County Deputies initiated a parole search at McDaniel’s residence and found numerous stolen articles, firearms, and drug paraphernalia.
McDaniel was placed into custody and is being held on charges including residential burglary, theft of property, criminal trespass, and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia.
McDaniel’s bond has been set at $100,000.
PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO BEGIN TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY Route U in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform pavement repairs.
MoDOT officials say that the work zone is located from Route H to Route MM.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 6 pm.

ARREST MADE IN POPLAR BLUFF CONVENIENCE STORE ROBBERYAuthorities in Butler County say a Poplar Bluff man has been arrested following a reported armed robbery Monday night at an area convenience store.
KWOC News spoke with Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs about the arrest.
MARK DOBBS:
On Monday evening, approximately 9:15 p.m. a white male wearing a hooded sweatshirt with the hoodie pulled up around his face entered Country Convenience on B Highway in eastern Butler County. The individual demanded the cash drawer from the cash register and all of its contents. He came in with gloves on and a handgun in hand. He ordered the store clerk into the restroom and then he departed with the money. Surveillance video revealed that he was driving a silver early 2000’s model Chevy Impala with damage to one side and a front marker light out as well as the sunroof and a rear spoiler. That vehicle description was put out to surrounding agencies and a trooper in Stoddard County made a stop on a vehicle matching the description. The description was very exact and it was apparent that it was the same vehicle. Myself and another investigator proceeded to that location, questioned the individual, and he readily admitted to being the one that committed the earlier aforementioned robbery. The individual was cooperative and took us to the location where he discarded the gun, the hoodie, and the rest of the cash in the cash drawer. The approximate amount of money taken from the robbery was in the area of $900. The subject was identified as Danny R Smith of Poplar Bluff. He was lodged in the Butler County jail for first-degree armed robbery. A subsequent check revealed that he was on Parole for a previous robbery that he had recently committed. The incident was taken care of and sold within record time due to the quick actions of two Missouri State Highway Patrol Troopers.
Dobbs would go on to add that Smith is also facing charges of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. He is being lodged in the Butler County Justice Center on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
DRIVER KILLED IN CARTER COUNTY WRECK Authorities say one man has died in connection to a single vehicle wreck Tuesday morning in Carter County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by 31 year old Andrew Chestnut, of Ellsinore, ran off of US 60 and overturned into the median shortly before 7 am Tuesday.
Chestnut, who was reportedly not wearing a safety device, was ejected from the vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene.
MAJOR CASE SQUAD ACTIVATED AFTER BODY FOUND IN PORTAGEVILLE The Major Case Squad has been activated after a body was found in Southeast Missouri.
According to authorities, a female was found dead Tuesday at a residence in Portageville. Multiple area agencies are assisting in the investigation and an autopsy has been scheduled for today.
The identity of the female has not been released.
MAN IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING SHOOTING IN BUTLER COUNTY A man has been taken into custody in Butler County in connection to a shooting on Tuesday that left one person injured.
Investigator Wess Popp tells us that the shooting reportedly occurred in the parking lot of an area convenience store.

On Tuesday morning at approximately 12:11 a.m. call came in to the Butler County Sheriff's Department in reference to a person that was reported shot in the parking lot of Heartland Express located on M Highway and 67. Officers arrived and found a vehicle with four bullet holes to the front and driver side and while investigating whose vehicle it was, Dispatch received a call that the individual was at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. They arrived where they found Chris Black being treated for a wound on his abdomen. Mr. Black stated that he was invited over to a friend's house and when he arrived at the house a white male identified as 36 year old Landall Zoll jumped on top of his car with a weapon in hand. Mr. Black stated that in fear he tried to get away,which ended up throwing Mr. Zoll off the vehicle. At that point when that happened Mr. Zoll fired four shots at the vehicle which Black believed one of the rounds had struck him in the abdomen. Mr. Black had a superficial wound and was shortly released from the hospital. During the course of the investigation investigators were able to recover a Springfield XD 40 Caliber semi-automatic handgun as well as shell casings at the location where the incident took place. Mr. Zoll was later located and transported to Butler County Sheriff's Department for first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
MAN IN POPLAR BLUFF ACCUSED OF STRIKING A WOMAN AND HOLDING A KNIFE TO HER THROAT A man in Poplar Bluff has been taken into custody and accused of holding a knife to a woman’s throat.
Captain Dave Sutton with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells us more about the incident.

Tuesday morning just after midnight officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of West Maud Street in reference to a domestic assault. An adult female complained that Randy Foster struck her and held a knife against her throat. The female had visible injuries consistent with the assault. Randy Foster was taken into custody and transported to the station. He was booked in on charges of domestic assault 2nd degree and armed criminal action. He was then lodged in the Butler County Jail.
Sutton did not elaborate on the extent of the injuries the victim received during the incident.
WAPPAPELLO WOMAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES INCLUDING ENDANGERING THE WELFARE OF A CHILD A Wappapello woman is facing multiple felony charges following her arrest Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Highway Patrol, 41 year old Mica Myrick was arrested shortly after noon in Wayne County on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and endangering the welfare of a child.
Following the arrest, Myrick was held at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

AUTHORITIES SEARCHING FOR MISSING IRON COUNTY MANAn Endangered Silver Advisory Alert has been issued for a missing Iron County man.
84 year old Roy Brandel was last seen Sunday morning at his farm. Brandel reportedly has dementia and impaired vision.

SEX OFFENDER WANTED OUT OF PARAGOULD IS IN CUSTODY A sex offender that was wanted out of Paragould has been taken into custody.
According to the Paragould Police Department, the U.S. Marshal Service arrested Richard Whittaker without incident in Las Vegas.
A warrant was issued by Paragould Police for Whittaker’s arrest in April. Whittaker was wanted for failure to register.
PAVEMENT REPAIR PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation will be in Stoddard County starting today for pavement repairs on Route D.
During the repairs, Route D will be reduced to one lane between Route 25 and Route 153.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 am to 5 pm daily through Thursday, July 21st.
TEENAGER INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK IN STODDARD COUNTY A teenager was injured early Monday morning in a single vehicle wreck in Stoddard County.
According to the Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by 19 year old Jericka Helton, of Bloomfield, ran off of Route Y and overturned at around 1:30 am Monday.
Helton was taken by ambulance to a Cape Girardeau hospital.
COMMUNITY ALLIANCE PROGRAM TO BE HELD AT HIGHWAY PATROL TROOP E HEADQUARTERS The Missouri State Highway Patrol will be hosting a Community Alliance Program at the Troop E headquarters in Poplar Bluff.
The program will begin on Monday, September 19th and will meet on Monday evenings from 6:30 pm to 9 pm. The program will conclude with an awards banquet on October 31st.
According to Captain Jeffrey Vitale, the program is designed to allow the public to learn more about the Patrol’s purpose and role within the law enforcement community. The curriculum will familiarize participants with many Patrol policies and procedures.
These sessions will cover traffic stops, crash investigations, firearms familiarization, marine operations, and many other aspects of the Patrol.

MODOT REMINDS CITIZENS TO STAY AWAY FROM TRAIN TRACKS Pedestrians are being urged to stay away from train tracks following a deadly weekend earlier this month.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, four people in Missouri were hit and killed on train tracks over the 4th of July holiday weekend. So far in 2016, there have been 12 trespass incidents resulting in six fatalities and four serious injuries.
Pedestrians are reminded to not walk on or over railroad property and cross tracks only at designated pedestrian or roadway crossings.
Also remember to not take selfies or posed photographs on or near tracks or railroad bridges.

POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN FACING FELONY CHARGE OF LEAVING THE SCENE OF A MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH A Poplar Bluff woman is facing a felony charge following her arrest Friday morning in Butler County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 30 year old Tresa Foster was arrested on a felony charge of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash.
Foster is also facing charges of driving while intoxicated – drugs and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway resulting in an accident.
Additional details about the wreck were not available.
Following the arrest, Foster was held at the Butler County Justice Center.
KENNETT POLICE INVESTIGATING ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY Authorities in Kennett are investigating an attempted armed robbery.
According to the Kennett Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 84 West Motel Sunday morning, in reference to an attempted armed robbery that had occurred there overnight.
Officers were told that a black male had approached several individuals, held them at gun point, and attempted to rob them. The victims were all able to retreat into their room and lock the door without further incident.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES IN IRON COUNTY An area man was taken into custody over the weekend on multiple felony charges.
According to the Highway Patrol, 29 year old Todd Hileman, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested Saturday night in Iron County.
Hileman was arrested on felony charges of tampering with a motor vehicle - 1st degree and theft of a credit device. Hileman is also facing a misdemeanor charge of possession of identification of another.
POPLAR BLUFF POLICE WARNING OF MORE FRAUD CALLS Another fraud caller is making the rounds and the Poplar Bluff Police Department wants to make sure local residents are aware of it.
According to a fraud complaint, during the call the suspect claimed to represent a bank or a lottery and told the intended victim that they had been "selected to receive millions of dollars." The caller then repeatedly asked for money to process the funds.
The Police Department is reminding everyone that unsolicited calls seeking money should be regarded as suspicious. Anyone who receives such a call is encouraged to hang up immediately.
DEXTER WOMAN ARRESTED ON METH CHARGE Authorities have arrested a Dexter woman in Stoddard County on a felony meth charge.
30 year old Heather Davison was arrested Saturday evening on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following the arrest, Davison was taken to the Stoddard County Jail on a 24 hour hold.
TWO BUTLER COUNTY ROADS TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR RAILROAD CROSSING REPAIRS Two Butler County roads will be closed today and tomorrow for railroad crossing repairs.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route 158 is closed between Main Street and 5th Street in Harviell. Route 142 is also closed between 1st Street and Ira Davidson Street in Neelyville.
Work on both projects was scheduled to begin this morning at 6 am. The roads are set to reopen at 6 pm Tuesday evening.
ROADWORK TO BEGIN THIS WEEK ON US 60 IN CARTER COUNTY Eastbound US 60 in Carter and Shannon Counties will be reduced to one lane this week while Missouri Department of Transportation crews seal the roadway with a mixture of rock and oil.
The section of US 60 to be reduced is located from Route P in Carter County to Route W in Shannon County.
Weather permitting, work will take place today through Thursday, from 6:30 am to 5 pm daily.

FIREWORKS SET FOR TONIGHT IN POPLAR BLUFF, PARADE SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW
Fireworks are set to light up Poplar Bluff tonight.
The Briggs and Stratton Fireworks Show will held at dusk tonight at Ray Clinton Park.
The 4th of July parade will be held tomorrow morning, beginning at 9 am. There is no registration requirement to enter the parade, just be at the waterpark by 8 am.
Both events had to be postponed from the 4th of July due to weather concerns.
PILOT KILLED IN CROP DUSTER CRASH IN DUNKLIN COUNTY
One man is dead after a plane crashed Thursday morning in Dunklin County.
According to authorities, 48 year old Jack Short, of Kennett, was piloting a crop duster when the plane hit power lines and crashed outside of Kennett.

An attempted stabbing in Butler County has resulted in the arrest of a child.
According to authorities, the 11 year old boy was arrested on Monday. The boy had had allegedly chased his mother with a knife and attempted to stab a Butler County Deputy.
The deputy was not injured in the incident. QULIN MAN ARRESTED ON METH AND RESISTING ARREST CHARGES
A Qulin man is facing multiple charges following his arrest Thursday morning in Butler County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 29 year old James Mesey was arrested shortly after 10 am Thursday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
Mesey is also facing a charge of resisting arrest by fleeing. Following the arrest, Mesey was held at the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. DEXTER GRILLE IT UP EVENT TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY

Officials in Doniphan have lifted a boil water notice that was issued earlier this week.
According to the Doniphan Police Department, the notice was issued on Tuesday for residents in the Sunny Acres Subdivision from Mabel Street east to the city limits and from Barbara Street south to Thompson Drive.

STORMS KNOCK OVER TREES AND POWER LINES IN POPLAR BLUFF Some were without power for a period of time Wednesday due to storms passing over Poplar Bluff.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, the Wednesday afternoon storms caused several trees and power lines to be knocked down, taking out power for some residents. There were also stop lights out in town due to the power outage.
Police say that Fair Street had to be closed temporarily so crews could clean up debris.
THREE CHARGED WITH MURDER IN CONNECTION TO DEATH OF KANSAS MAN Three people are facing a murder charge in connection to the disappearance and death of a Kansas man in the Sikeston area.
Captain James McMillen with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety tells us that Lawrence “Larry” Weaver from Pittsburg, Kansas arrived in Sikeston on Sunday, June 26th.
Two days later, Sikeston DPS was asked by the Pittsburg, Kansas Police Department to check on Weaver. Police checked Weaver’s hotel room and found both him and his motorcycle missing.
Weaver was found dead on July 2nd in an area cotton field. An autopsy was performed and Weaver’s body was found to have significant trauma to the head as well as several fractured ribs and other injuries consistent with a severe beating.
McMillen says that 49 year old Ronnie Carl Robinson and 40 year old Elsie M. Coleman Hamilton, both of North Little Rock, Arkansas, along with 35 year old Larenzle M. Coleman, of Oakfield, Tennessee, have been taken into custody.
All three have been charged with murder 1st degree, robbery 1st degree, kidnapping, and tampering 1st degree.
AUTHORITIES SAY RIPLEY COUNTY WOMAN’S DEATH WAS ACCIDENTAL Authorities in Ripley County say the death of an area woman is being ruled accidental.
According to authorities, Dorthy Ludwig was found lying near her home on Saturday.
She was taken to an area hospital and later passed away from injuries she had received. An investigation into the incident resulted in authorities ruling that the death was accidental.
DANCE CONTEST FILIMING TO BE HELD TONIGHT IN POPLAR BLUFF The Poplar Bluff community has been invited to participate in the filming of a dance video tonight to try to win money for an area charity.
The Pink Glove Dance is a national video contest where healthcare entities and communities create 90 second videos and compete in an online voting contest.
The winner will receive $10,000 from Medline to donate to a cancer charity of their choosing. Poplar Bluff will be trying to win money for the United Cancer Assistance Network.
Community members are invited to join in on the filming of the video tonight, from 6 to 8 pm at the Fred M. Morrow Stadium at the Poplar Bluff Jr. High School. Pink Gloves will be provided to attendees.
HIGHWAY PATROL ISSUES OVER 150 SUMMONSES AND MAKES NEARLY 30 ARRESTS DURING HOLIDAY OPERATION Over 150 summonses were issued and nearly 30 arrests were made during a holiday operation conducted by State Troopers.
Captain Jeffrey N. Vitale, commanding officer of Troop E of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, tells us that Troopers were assigned to work 20-mile intervals on major highways and interstates in Southeast Missouri on Friday, July 1st, and Monday, July 4th.
During the operation, troopers made 15 drug arrests and 13 driving while intoxicated arrests. They also issued 135 speed summonses, 35 seat belt summonses, and 283 warnings in the 13 county area of Troop E.
Vitale wants to remind motorists that even though the holiday period is over, they are urged to continue to drive safely and always wear your seat belt.
REGISTRAION UNDERWAY FOR POPLAR BLUFF EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER FULL YEAR PROGRAM Registration is underway for the new full year program at the Poplar Bluff Early Childhood Center.

INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY IN CONNECTION TO RIPLEY COUNTY WOMAN’S DEATH
An investigation is underway in connection to the death of a woman in Ripley County.
According to authorities, Dorthy Ludwig was found lying near her home on Saturday. She was taken to an area hospital and later passed away from injuries she had received.
An autopsy was scheduled to be performed on Tuesday.
PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER ORDER IN EFFECT FOR SOME DONIPHAN RESIDENTS
Some Doniphan residents are being advised to boil their water for the time being.
According to the Doniphan Police Department, a precautionary boil water notice is in effect for residents in the Sunny Acres Subdivision from Mabel Street east to the city limits and Barbara Street south to Thompson Drive.
Officials say the order is in effect until further notice.
TODAY IS THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER TO VOTE IN THE AUGUST PRIMARY
The deadline is here for those who want to vote in the upcoming primary election.
Today is the last day to register to vote in the primary, which will be held on August 2nd.
Eligible Missourians can register to vote online as well as in person at their local election authority’s office, any Department of Motor Vehicles office, or state agency that provides services to the public.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI HIT BY 3.0 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE
The fourth of July brought more than just fireworks to Southeast Missouri.
According to the United States Geological Survey, a 3.0 magnitude earthquake was measured at 11:53 pm Monday night. The quake was located just over three miles southwest of Caruthersville and 20 miles southeast of Kennett.
The USGS says the earthquake had a depth of 5.7 miles.
HEAT INDEX EXPECTED TO BE AROUND 100 DEGREES TODAY FOR PARTS OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
Chances of showers and thunderstorms might not be the only weather related problems we have this week in Southeast Missouri.
According to a Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the National Weather Service, the heat index could get around 100 degrees this afternoon.
On Thursday and Friday, the National Weather Service says afternoon heat indices may reach or exceed the advisory threshold of 105 degrees at some locations.

BOIL WATER ADVISORY FOR PARTS OF STODDARD COUNTY HAS BEEN LIFTED
An over a week long boil water advisory is now over in Stoddard County.
System Operator Joe Pulliam tells us that the advisory for Public Water District Number Three of Stoddard County has been lifted.
Pulliam says that the advisory had been in effect due to a water main break.
DEADLINE COMING UP FOR SWIMMING LESSONS IN POPLAR BLUFF
The deadline is coming up to register for swimming lessons at R.W. Huntington Municipal Pool in Poplar Bluff.
According to Aquatics Supervisor Heather Tuggle, the deadline to register for Session 2 will be Friday, July 8th. Session two will be held from July 11th to July 21st.
Session three will be held from July 25th through August 4th and its registration deadline is July 22nd.
The registration fee is $15 and forms are available at the Parks Department office on North Second Street and online at PoplarBluff-MO.gov.
NINE ARRESTS MADE DURING SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT IN BUTLER COUNTY
Over 220 vehicles were stopped in Butler County on Saturday during a sobriety checkpoint conducted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Captain Jeffrey Vitale tells us that nine arrests were made during the four hour operation, five felony drug arrests and four driving while intoxicated arrests.
Troopers also issued 40 warnings and 16 summonses during the checkpoint.

MISSING KANSAS MAN FOUND DEAD
Authorities in Sikeston have found the body of a missing Kansas man.
Captain James McMillen with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety tells us that the body of Larry Weaver, of Pittsburg, Kansas, was found Saturday morning in an area cotton field.
Weaver was reported missing early Tuesday morning from a hotel in Sikeston. Both he and his motorcycle went missing with no explanation.
An investigation into Weaver’s disappearance led to the arrest of 40 year old Elsie Coleman, of North Little Rock, Arkansas and 49 year old Ronnie Robinson, Senior, of Sikeston, on charges of tampering with a motor vehicle 1st degree and receiving stolen property.
At least one other suspect is still being sought in connection to the investigation.
McMillen says that Weaver’s death appears suspicious and an autopsy will be conducted.
KENNETT POLICE INVESTIGATING DEATH OF TEEN AT AREA CLUB
Authorities in Kennett are investigating the death of a teenager at an area country club.
According to the Kennett Police Department, officers received information on Saturday of a possible drowning that had occurred at the club during the early morning hours while the business was closed.
Officers learned during an investigation that a group of subjects had went to the business to go swimming which resulted in 19 year old Logan Cossey being taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities say the death is under investigation and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Kennett Police Department at 573-888-4622.
POPLAR BLUFF WELCOMES NEW SUPERINTENDENT
The Poplar Bluff R-1 School District has a new superintendent.
Scott Dill took part in his first official day in the position on Friday.
Dill previously worked as superintendent of Houston Schools in Missouri, where he began as middle school principal. He was employed for a decade prior as a library media specialist at Macks Creek Schools in Central Missouri.
Dill takes over for the departing Chris Hon who had served as Poplar Bluff superintendent since 2010.
OVER TEN ARRESTS MADE DURING TASK FORCE IN POPLAR BLUFF
Poplar Bluff was the location of a Street Crimes Task Force Operation on Friday.
According to authorities, over 10 arrests were made during the operation.
The Task Force was made up of officers from multiple area agencies including the Poplar Bluff Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.
TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG DISCOVERY IN CLAY COUNTY
A Kennett woman has been taken into custody after she reportedly got lost in Northeast Arkansas.
Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller tells us that deputies conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle early Sunday morning. During the stop, the driver, 48 year old Karen Jestus, told officers that she was lost.
Jestus was arrested after deputies were informed that she had a felony warrant out of Dunklin County. A search was conducted and authorities discovered multiple items, including prescription medication wrapped in a paper towel, several bags of a white powdery substance, and a burnt piece of foil.
Jestus was taken to the Clay County Detention Center on charges including possession of cocaine less than two grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and endangering the welfare of a minor.
A juvenile in the vehicle was turned over to DHS custody.
DONIPHAN MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES OVER THE WEEKEND
A Doniphan man is facing multiple felony charges following his arrest early Sunday morning.
According to the Highway Patrol, 21 year old Jason Lee was arrested in Butler County on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and possession of a controlled substance for hydrocodone and xanax.
Following the arrest, Lee was taken to the Butler County Jail on a 24 hour hold.
TWO ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON METH CHARGE
Two men were taken into custody Monday evening in Stoddard County on a felony meth charge.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 55 year old Richard Hurd, of Advance, and 53 year old Terry Powell, of Poplar Bluff, were each arrested on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia shortly after 6 pm Monday.
Both men were held at the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Office following their arrest.
POPLAR BLUFF FIREWORKS AND PARADE POSTPONED TO THIS WEEKEND
The possibility of rain over the weekend caused postponement of the 4th of July Parade and fireworks in Poplar Bluff.
Officials tell us that the Briggs and Stratton Fireworks Show will now be held at dusk Friday night at Ray Clinton Park.
The parade has been rescheduled for Saturday morning, beginning at 9 am.

POPLAR BLUFF FOURTH OF JULY PARADE TO BEGIN AT 9 AM MONDAY
A start time has been set for the Fourth of July parade on Monday in Poplar Bluff.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 9 am. There is no registration requirement to enter the parade, just be at the waterpark by 8 am.
The annual fireworks display will be held Monday night at Ray Clinton Park. The fireworks will begin at dusk.
FIREWORKS AND WATER FEST SET FOR THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND AT WAPPAPELLO LAKE
The Independence Day holiday weekend is shaping up to be a busy one for visitors to Wappapello Lake.
We spoke with Park Ranger Andrew Jefferson about some of the events that are planned for this weekend at the lake.
“On Saturday we're going to have the fireworks display will be held that evening around dusk. Also there's going to be arts and crafts, there will be magic shows at The Visitor Center.
All of these things are free to attend in addition just in case if there is inclement weather on Saturday evening. The fireworks display will be rescheduled, hopefully for that Sunday. And on Sunday we will be celebrating Ranger Willie's Wet and Wild Water Festival at the Redman Creek Beach.
This is our annual water safety campaign push that is set aside for all ages. We want families to come out to enjoy themselves as well as the children and Grandparents. It’s a family type event. Some of the activities will include tug-of-war, water balloon volley, sand castle and sand sculpture contest, intertube racing, PFD fashion show, as well as the infamous cardboard boat and building and racing contest.
So come on out this Sunday and enjoy Ranger Willie's Wet and Wild Water Festival at the Redman Creek Beach and guess what all of these events and activities for this holiday weekend are free to attend.”

TWO ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON METH CHARGE
Two people have been taken into custody in Wayne County on a meth charge.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 33 year old Joshua Taylor, of Greenville, and 26 year old Amanda Hinson, of Lodi, were each arrested shortly before 10 am Thursday for possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
Hinson is also facing a charge of tampering with evidence. Following their arrest, both were held in the Wayne County Jail.
THE WIZARD OF OZ TO BE SHOWN AT MOVIE IN THE PARK NIGHT
The Spillway Recreation area at Wappapello Lake will be converted to a movie theatre tonight as a part of the ongoing celebration of the 75th anniversary of the completion of Wappapello Reservoir and Dam.
We spoke with Park Ranger Andrew Jefferson about what attendees can expect at the free event tonight.
“This evening at dusk we're going to have what we call a movie in the park night. That's going to take place at the spillway Recreation Area.
It’s being done in partnership with Southern Missouri Bank as well as the Wappapello Lake Area Association. This event is still part of the celebration that we're doing for the 75th year anniversary.
We encourage everybody to come on out to the spillway Recreation Area bring your favorite lawn chair or a blanket. You will receive a free popcorn and soda.
The movie that will be showing will be Wizard of Oz so come on out enjoy yourself this evening cause we're really looking forward to this. Be safe, be careful, and remember always wear those life jackets while you’re on the lake. “

GROUNDBREAKING HELD FOR NEW PEPSI MIDAMERICA FACILITY IN POPLAR BLUFF
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday for a new Pepsi MidAmerica Company facility in Poplar Bluff.
The new Pepsi-Cola Distribution Center will be located at 665 West Outer Road and Pepsi MidAmerica says that they will be investing several million dollars into the new facility as well as offering continued employment growth.
The Distribution Center is anticipated to be completed by late fall or early winter of this year.
SAFETY TIPS FOR YOUR PETS DURING THE INDEPENDENCE DAY HOLIDAY
While fireworks are a great treat for many during the Fourth of July, your pets might not enjoy them as much as you do.
The Humane Society of Missouri says that the loud noises can cause dogs and cats to act out of character. A startled dog or cat may hide or try to escape the noise by digging under, chewing through or climbing over fences.
The Humane Society has released some tips for keeping your pet happy during the holiday.
Give your pet a quiet, cool place to retreat inside where sounds are less intense.
Keeping them inside will also protect them from stray fireworks. Their retreat could be a basement or an interior room like a bathroom with access to clean, cool water.
