WIDESPREAD THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED TODAY WHICH COULD INCLUDE SEVERE WEATHER

Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected for today, which brings with it a chance of severe weather.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, there is a slight risk for most of the area to get severe storms today, mainly this afternoon.

Locally heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding will also be a concern.

POPLAR BLUFF DUO FINISHES 6TH IN CLASS 2 STATE TENNIS TOURNAMENT

A pair of Poplar Bluff students finished in the top 10 of the recent state tennis tournament.

The Mules Beau McCormack and William Sherrill placed 6th in the 2026 MSHSAA Boys Class 2 Tennis Doubles Championships on Saturday.

According to the Poplar Bluff Mules Facebook page, the duo were the first state medalists in Poplar Bluff Boys Tennis History.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN SENTENCED TO OVER A DECADE IN PRISON IN CONNECTION TO DEXTER SHOOTING

A man has been sentenced to over a decade in prison for his role in a shooting incident from 2024 in Dexter.

According to Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Sawyer Smith, Romel Rey, of Poplar Bluff, was found guilty of charges of assault 1st degree, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.

The charges stem from an incident in January of 2024 when Rey discharged a pistol four to five times at a moving vehicle after a drug transaction meeting turned into an argument. Nobody was hurt or injured by the shooting.

On Tuesday, Rey was sentenced to a consecutive total of 15 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.

POPLAR BLUFF LIBRARY TO HOST EMS APPRECIATION DAY ON TODAY

First responders will be celebrated today during a story time event for National EMS Week.

The event is scheduled for 10:30 am and 5:30 pm at the Poplar Bluff Library’s main branch.

Attendees will get a goodie bag, have an opportunity to make a thank you card for first responders, and see a Butler County EMS ambulance up close.

There will also be a story time with local heroes.

CHARGES FILED FOR SUSPECT WHO ALLEGEDLY SHOT AT CARUTHERSVILLE POLICE OFFICERS, SUSPECT STILL AT LARGE

A Caruthersville man is still at large after allegedly shooting at police officers over the weekend.

A Blue Alert was issued Sunday morning for 42 year old Zachary Walker, who allegedly fired at two Caruthersville police officers that were contacting a large number of people who were gathered in the area of East 12th Street and Walker Avenue in Caruthersville.

Investigators believe Walker may have been wounded when officers returned fire. His vehicle was found crashed approximately two blocks away.

Walker has been charged with assault 1st degree or attempt, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Walker is considered armed and dangerous and anyone with information on his whereabouts should call 911 immediately.

BOLLINGER COUNTY SHOOTING SUSPECT ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY

A suspect is in custody in connection to a shooting Monday in Bollinger County.

According to the Bollinger County Sheriff’s Office, authorities received a report that a woman had been shot at approximately 11:15 am on Monday.

Deputies responded to the scene and discovered that the suspect had fled the area.

A coordinated search involving the Bollinger County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Office was initiated which resulted in the suspect being located in Stoddard County and taken into custody without incident.

The condition of the victim, along with the identities of the persons involved, were not released.
