BUTLER COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED BEGINNING ON MONDAY

A Butler County road will be closed this summer for bridge replacements.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route AA in Butler County will be closed beginning Monday so contractor crews can replace the bridges over Drainage Ditches 1 and 10. 

The work zone will be located between County Roads 621 and 629 in Broseley.

Weather permitting, work will begin at 6 a.m. on Monday with completion anticipated by Wednesday, September 30. Officials say that Route AA will remain closed until the work is complete.

MULES BASEBALL TEAM TO HOST FUNDRAISING GOLF TOURNAMENT ON SATURDAY

The Poplar Bluff Mules Baseball team will be hosting a fundraising golf tournament this weekend.

The event has been scheduled for 12:30 pm on Saturday at the Ozark Ridge Golf Course in Poplar Bluff.

Registration will begin at 11:30 am and teams can register the day of the event. The cost is $75 per person or $300 per four person team.

THIS WEEK IS NATIONAL POLICE WEEK

Police officers are in the spotlight this week for National Police Week.

National Police Week is dedicated to remembering and honoring those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.

NATIONAL SAFE BOATING WEEK STARTS ON SATURDAY

National Safe Boating week starts on Saturday and Missouri officials are taking the opportunity to stress the importance of safety while on the waterways.

Colonel Michael Turner, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, tells KWOC News that National Safe Boating week is purposefully scheduled just prior to Memorial Day weekend, which many people consider the kickoff to the boating season.

Boaters are encouraged to arrange for a thorough inspection of your boat prior to taking it out on the water.

The Patrol’s marine operations troopers are available to inspect the required equipment on your boat, at your request, to make sure you’re in compliance with state law.

On Saturday, Troopers will be set up at the Van Buren Riverfront Boat Ramp from 8 to 10 am and at the Redman Recreational Area Boat Ramp in Wappapello from 9 to 11 am to conduct inspections.

STATE HISTORIC SITE IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI TO HOST CHILDREN’S EVENT THIS WEEKEND

A Southeast Missouri historic site will be hosting a special children’s event this weekend.

According to Missouri State Parks, children of all ages are invited to the Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site this Saturday, May 16th, for 1860s Children's Day.

From 11 am to 1 pm, children will have the opportunity to learn what life was like in the 1860s by participating in common chores and games of the period. Activities will include washing clothes with a washboard, dipping candles, making corn shuck dolls, walking on stilts and more.

Children's Day is free and open to the public. Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site is located at 312 Dawson Road in New Madrid.

AMERICORPS SENIOR TO HOST EVENT FOR GOOD NEIGHBOR DAY

AmeriCorps Senior will be hosting an event for Good Neighbor Day America in Poplar Bluff.

The event will be from 10 am to 12:30 pm on Saturday, May 16th at the Twin Towers.

There will be live music, free food, community cleanup, and fun activities for all ages.
