MULES FOOTBALL TO HOST CHAMINADE COLLEGE PREP FOR HOME OPENER

The Poplar Bluff Mules football team is getting ready for their home opener tonight.

The Mules will be looking to bounce back from last week’s loss as they host Chaminade College Prep out of St. Louis.

Poplar Bluff lost to Valley View in week one, 35-18. Chaminade defeated McCluer North 42-19 last week.

A tailgating party will be held beginning at 5 pm in the Poplar Bluff High School parking lot. The Stadium gates will open at 5:30 pm.

Today’s Talk KWOC 93.3 FM and 930 AM will be providing live coverage of the game with the kick-off show beginning at 6:30 pm. KWOC is also providing video coverage at the Today’s Talk KWOC Facebook page and the River Radio Youtube page.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN FLOWN TO MEMPHIS HOSPITAL FOLLOWING MOTORCYCLE CRASH

A Poplar Bluff man was flown to an area hospital Wednesday evening following a motorcycle crash in Neelyville.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the 27 year old man was riding the motorcycle on US Highway 67 when he struck the rear of a truck.

The man suffered serious injuries in the crash and was flown to a Memphis hospital.

THREE RIVERS COLLEGE TO HOST BATTLE OF THE BULLS THIS WEEKEND

Rodeo action will be returning to Poplar Bluff this weekend.

The Three Rivers College Rodeo Team is hosting the 3rd Annual Battle of the Bulls on Saturday at Ray Clinton Park.

The event will begin at 7 pm featuring bull riding and barrel racing.

There will also be activities for kids and food trucks available at the park.

The cost to attend is $15 for adults and $10 for kids ages eight and under.

RUN 4 THE ARTS SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY

The 10th annual Run 4 the Arts, hosted by Three Rivers College, is this weekend.

The four-mile run or walk, along with a one-mile walk, will be held at 8 am on Saturday at the College’s Poplar Bluff Campus. The course will begin and end in front of the Tinnin Fine Arts Center.

All funds from the event will go to benefit Three Rivers fine arts scholarships.

ORGANIZATIONS THAT HELP SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STUDENTS CHOSEN FOR AMERICORPS GRANTS

Multiple organizations that assist students in Southeast Missouri have been chosen to receive AmeriCorps Grants.

ServMO, the organization responsible for overseeing AmerirCorps programs in Missouri, has announced the recipients of thirteen 2025-2026 AmeriCorps Grants.

One of the grants will go to Poplar Bluff’s Promise, which provides tutoring services for elementary, middle, and junior high school students.

Another grant will go to the Missouri College Advising Corps, which provides college and career readiness services to students in 45 partner high schools within 30 school districts across Missouri, including in Butler County.

DEADLINE COMING UP TO PURCHASE TAGS FOR BULKY ITEM PICKUP

Today is the final day for Poplar Bluff residents to purchase tags for this month’s Bulky Item Pickup.

Residents can purchase bulk item tags from the City Collector’s office at City Hall for $20. The tags entitle you to the removal of four bulk items, such as couches or refrigerators.

No construction materials or small items will be picked up and the program is for residential areas only.

Today is the final day to purchase item tags at City Hall to be included in next week’s pick up, which will be conducted on Tuesday, September 9th.
