WAPPAPELLO MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON STATUTORY RAPE WARRANT

A Wappapello man is scheduled to appear in court this morning on a statutory rape charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 35 year old Dustin Underwood was arrested shortly after 9 am Wednesday morning.

According to Missouri Case Net, a warrant was issued for Underwood last year, charging him with 1st degree statutory rape, 3rd degree child molestation, and there counts of statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy.

Underwood is being held in the Butler County Justice Center on no bond ahead of his initial court appearance.

OZARK FEDERAL CREDIT UNION MERGES WITH CAPE REGIONAL CREDIT UNION

Two Southeast Missouri credit unions joined together at the beginning of this month.

According to a press release, Cape Regional Credit Union merged with Ozark Federal Credit Union, effective September 1st.

OFCU will add the two CRCU locations in Cape Girardeau and Fruitland to the OFCU family.

Officials say that the full conversion process will not be complete until early 2026.

Until then, CRCU members who have not yet opened an OFCU account will continue to use only CRCU branches and systems. Access to OFCU branches and services will become fully available to all members after the transition.

PUBLIC HEARING SET FOR SEPTEMBER 23RD TO DISCUSS ROAD PROJECT ON HIGHWAY 53

A public hearing has been scheduled for later this month to discuss a road project on Highway 53 in Poplar Bluff.

The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23 at the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission.

The project includes adding a center turn lane on Route 53 from Route 142 to County Road 306. Additionally, this project includes a left turn lane at Route UU and access management measures to reduce conflict points along the corridor.

The public hearing will be open house style, and visitors can stop-by anytime between 4 and 7 p.m. to discuss the details of the project with the project team.

CENTER STAGE PRODUCTION OF ANNIE TO BEGIN ON FRIDAY

The Center Stage production of “Annie,” is set to begin Friday night.

Suzy Abney will be directing the Broadway-style production at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center, which will include performances at 7 pm on September 5th, 6th, 12th, and 13th, along with 2 pm matinees on September 6th, 7th, 13th and 14th.

Center Stage is Three Rivers College’s blended theater company of students, college employees, and community members.

POPLAR BLUFF COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVE SCHEDULED FOR TODAY

Poplar Bluff residents can give back today by donating at the Poplar Bluff Community Blood Drive.

The event is scheduled for noon to 5 pm at the Black River Coliseum.

Everyone who donates can also receive a mystery tee shirt with a Red Cross and Peanuts design, while supplies last.

BRIDGE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN PARMA AREA

Route D in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform bridge maintenance.

The bridge is located between Route 153 and County Road 531 near Parma.

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
