MULES FOOTBALL KICKS OFF REGULAR SEASON THIS FRIDAY IN JONESBORO

The Poplar Bluff Mules Football team is looking to get the 2025 football season off to a great start this week against Valley View High School, from Jonesboro, Arkansas.

The Mules will travel to Jonesboro on Friday, with kickoff set for 7 pm. It will be the first game for each team this season. The teams also kicked off the season last year with Valley View picking up a 42-14 win in Poplar Bluff.

The Mules went 4-5 in the regular season last year before falling to Cape Central in the Class 5, District 1 Semi-Finals. Valley View finished the 2024 campaign with a 12-1 record, with their season coming to an end in the Arkansas Class 5A State Semifinals.

Today’s Talk KWOC 93.3 FM and 930 AM will be providing live coverage of the game on Friday over the radio as well as video coverage on the Today’s Talk KWOC Facebook page and the River Radio Youtube page.

TODAY IS THE FINAL DAY TO APPLY FOR BLUFF STRONG FUNDS

Anyone who is still needing help recovering from the March tornadoes in Poplar Bluff is encouraged to apply for Bluff Strong funds.

Today at 7 pm is the deadline to get your application to the South Central Missouri Community Action Agency, which is located at 1716 South Broadway in Poplar Bluff.

They will need multiple documents, including a proof of residence, proof of damage, income verification, and ID and Social Security cards for everyone in the household.

MULTIPLE DRUGS, INCLUDING SUSPECTED METH, FENTANYL, AND ECSTASY UNCOVERED DURING SEARCH

One person is in custody after a search uncovered numerous suspected drugs at a residence in Southeast Missouri.

According to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office, shortly after 7 pm Thursday night, the SEMO Drug Task Force, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Dunklin County Sheriff's Office, and Kennett Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence in Kennett as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation.

During the search, officers seized approximately 88 grams of methamphetamine, 33 grams of suspected fentanyl pills, and 28 grams of suspected ecstasy/MDMA pills. Officers also recovered a machine conversion device—commonly referred to as a "Glock switch"—as well as various items of drug paraphernalia.

One person has been taken into custody in connection to the search and officials say that charges have been submitted.

The narcotics investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.

MAGNITUDE 2.3 EARTHQUAKE HITS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI FRIDAY MORNING

Multiple people have reported feeling an earthquake strike Southeast Missouri early Friday morning.

According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 2.3 earthquake was recorded at 8:33 am.

The earthquake was centered approximately 1.4 miles east of Caruthersville and had a depth of around 2.5 miles.

CULVERT REPLACEMENT TO FORCE CLOSURE OF STODDARD COUNTY ROAD TODAY

Route H in Stoddard County will be closed today so crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation can replace a culvert under the roadway.

The section of roadway being closed is located from County Road 667 to County Road 651 near Dexter.

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

FORMER SOUTHEAST MISSOURI CITY CLERK CHARGED WITH STEALING AND FORGERY

A former city clerk in Southeast Missouri is facing multiple charges in connection to missing money in Morehouse.

According to a probable cause statement, former Morehouse City Clerk Heather Hays is accused of overpaying herself over $4,600 from April 2019 to April of 2021.

In addition, a review of the City of Morehouse payment account revealed twenty-three Demand Deposit Account labeled transactions, totalling over $30,000, were withdrawn from the account and not deposited into any other City of Morehouse account from 2019 to 2021. The signature of Heather Hays was on each of these transactions

Eight of those transactions also contained another signature that did not appear to match the signature card for the account. The subject said during an interview that he did not recall signing the transactions.

Hays has been charged with felony stealing - $25,000 or more and forgery.

Her initial appearance in a New Madrid Courtroom is scheduled for September 15th.
