OPEN HOUSE AND ORIENTATIONS IN THE POPLAR BLUFF R-1 SCHOOL DISTRICT TO START TODAY
Parents in Poplar Bluff will have the opportunity to learn more about the schools their children will be attending this fall during a series of open houses scheduled to begin today.
The Poplar Bluff High School Open House is set for today and will be followed by Freshman Orientation on the 15th.
Early Childhood Meet the teacher visits are scheduled for August 15th, 18th, and 19th.
Open houses will be held for the four elementary schools as well as the 4th through 8th grades on Monday, August 18th.
The Kindergarten and Poplar Bluff Technical Career Center Open Houses are set for August 19th.
The first day of school has been scheduled for Wednesday, August 20th.

GIDEON MAN ARRESTED ON CHARGES OF SODOMY AND CHILD MOLESTATION
A sexual assault investigation has led to the arrest of a Gideon man.
Officials with the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office tell KWOC News that on August 10th, deputies received a report of a sexual assault.
An investigation into the report led to the arrest of Austin Hillis of Gideon.
The New Madrid County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Hillis with four counts of statutory sodomy and two counts of child molestation - 3rd degree.
His bond was set at $100,000.
PARENTS AND STUDENTS ENCOURAGED TO REPORT SCHOOL SAFETY CONCERNS
With schools in Missouri restarting soon, state officials are reminding school personnel, parents, and students to report safety concerns.
According to Lieutenant Eric Brown with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Courage2Report Missouri program provides a safe and confidential way to report any concerns regarding school safety.
Brown says that there are several ways to submit a report, including the Courage2Report mobile app, online at mshp.dps.missouri.gov, or by calling 866-748-7047.
Those reporting their concerns may remain anonymous by not providing their name.
4TH ANNUAL ERIC SIMMONS MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT SCHEDULED FOR LATE SEPTEMBER
The 4th annual Eric Simmons Memorial Golf Tournament has been scheduled for late September.
The four person scramble tournament, hosted by FosterAdopt Connect in Poplar Bluff, will begin at 12:30 pm on September 20th at the Ozark Ridge Golf Course.

ALMOST SIX MONTH LONG ROAD PROJECT UNDERWAY IN MISSOURI BOOTHEEL
Route 164 in Dunklin and Pemiscot counties will be reduced to one lane with an 11-foot width restriction for almost six months so contractor crews can perform pavement overlay and shoulder grading.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the work zone is located from Route 412 in Cardwell to Route 61 in Steele.
Officials say that completion is anticipated by Monday, February 2nd.
ROAD STRIPING PROJECT SET FOR THIS MONTH ON INTERSTATE 55 IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
MoDOT contractor crews will re-stripe Interstate 55 in Southeast Missouri this month to improve visibility for motorists.
Weather permitting, work to restripe Interstate 55 will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through Thursday, August 28.
Motorists are urged to use extreme caution and allow the machinery the space needed to properly apply the reflective paint.
