CROWLEY RIDGE SCHOOL IN DEXTER TO PERMANENTLY CLOSE BY THE END OF THE 2025-26 SCHOOL YEAR
State officials have made the decision to permanently close a Dexter school.
Crowley Ridge School was one of 12 Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education operated Schools for the Severely Disabled that the state Board of Education has approved to permanently close by next year.
According to a news release, Crowley Ridge will close by the conclusion of the 2025-26 school year.
State Board of Education President Mary Schrag said in the release that “The State Board of Education believes this is the first step in providing more opportunities and strengthening education for all students enrolled in Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled.”
MAN EJECTED FROM SIDE BY SIDE IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS DIES
A man who was ejected from a side by side over the weekend has died.
According to the Arkansas State Police, 30 year old Devon Young, of Beech Grove, Arkansas, was riding in a side by side on Clay County Road 2002 when the vehicle ran off the road and Young was ejected.
He was transported to an area hospital where he later died.
Officials say the crash occurred at around 11 pm Saturday night.
CORNING AND PIGGOTT AMONG SCHOOLS BEGINNING CLASSES TODAY
Several districts in Northeast Arkansas will be starting their school year today.
Pocahontas, Corning, Greene County Tech, Marmaduke, Paragould, Walnut Ridge, and Piggott, among others, are all set to begin classes this morning.
Many schools in Southeast Missouri will be welcoming kids back beginning next week, with Monday seeing at least 15 schools opening their doors, including Sacred Heart, Shady Grove State School, and Westwood Baptist Academy in Poplar Bluff, along with Three Rivers College and Southeast Missouri State University.
DATES AND TWO HEADLINE ACTS ANNOUNCED FOR NEXT YEAR’S SIKESTON JAYCEE BOOTHEEL RODEO
Two country music stars will take the stage next August during the 2026 Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo.
Organizers have announced that Tucker Wetmore and Hudson Westbrook will both perform during next year’s rodeo, which is scheduled to run from August 5th through August 8th.
Wetmore will perform on Wednesday, August 5th, with Westbrook following on Friday, August 7th.

THREE INJURED IN EARLY MORNING CRASH NEAR DEXTER
Three people were injured in an early Tuesday morning crash near Dexter.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened shortly after 5 am when a vehicle pulled into the path of another vehicle on Eastbound US Highway 60.
The drivers of both vehicles, as well as a passenger in the second vehicle, suffered serious injuries in the crash.
The passenger, a 35 year old Poplar Bluff man, was flown to a Memphis hospital. Both drivers were transported by ambulance to a Poplar Bluff hospital.
BROSELEY MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH
A Broseley man was badly injured in a single vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the 59 year old man was driving on Butler County Road 654 shortly after noon when his vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned into a water filled ditch.
The man suffered serious injuries in the crash and was transported by ambulance to a Cape Girardeau hospital.
TORNADO SIRENS TO BE TESTED TODAY IN CARTER COUNTY
Tornado sirens are scheduled to be tested today in Carter County.
According to the Carter County EMA, the sirens were originally scheduled to be tested last week, however the test had to be delayed due to repair issues.
The test will now be conducted this morning at 11 am.
