OZARK BORDER ANNUAL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY

The annual membership meeting of the Ozark Border Electric Cooperative will be conducted this week.

The meeting will be held at 2:30 pm on Friday at the Ozark Border Headquarters on South Westwood Boulevard in Poplar Bluff.

Members will be voting for the Board of Directors, with three seats being contested. The first will see incumbent Judy Lunsford taking on Gary Melton and Tod Spradley for the District 2 seat. Incumbent Bill Hager will be facing Derek Boyers for the District 3 seat.

The other race is in District 4, where incumbent Greg Lintz is being challenged by Chad Payne. Each race is for a three year term.

Voting will be conducted on multiple dates and locations this week in the leadup to the meeting. Voting and registration will be available for all members today at the Malden Ozark Border Office, on Tuesday at the Puxico Office, on Wednesday at the Van Buren Office, and on Thursday at the Doniphan Office. Those four locations will be open for voting on their respective dates from 9 am to 3 pm.

Voting will be available at the Poplar Bluff Ozark Border Electric Headquarters on Friday from 7 am to 2 pm.

TWO ARRESTED IN CARTER COUNTY AFTER LARGE AMOUNT OF METH WAS FOUND DURING TRAFFIC STOP

Two people have been taken into custody following a traffic stop in Carter County.

According to Sheriff Alonzo Bradwell, on Wednesday, members of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on U.S. Highway 60. During the stop, a K9 team was deployed and indicated the presence of an illegal substance odor.

Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle, where they found a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine.

Stanley Gillette of Fordland, Missouri and Linda Bowers, of Springfield, Missouri, were both arrested on a charge of delivery of a controlled substance. They were both held on no bond.

DATE SET FOR DUCK BLIND DRAWING AT WAPPAPELLO LAKE

A date has been announced for the annual duck blind drawing at Wappapello Lake.

According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers the drawing and registration will be held at 9:00 a.m. on August 16th, at the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitors Center.

The registration fee is $15 and applicants are asked to use a credit or debit card.

Permitted duck blinds may be placed on the lake after Labor Day and must be removed from the lake, or transferred to a permitted storage cove, within two weeks of the closure of the zoned duck season.

BUTLER COUNTY WARNING SIRENS TO BE TESTED TODAY

Don’t be surprised if you hear sirens today in Butler County.

According to the Butler County Emergency Management Office, the county’s outdoor warning sirens are scheduled to be tested today at noon.

Officials say that the tests will be conducted every month on the first Monday.

ROYAL REGISTRATION SET FOR THIS WEEK IN TWIN RIVERS SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Twin Rivers School District will be holding a two day registration event for students this week.

Royal Registration is scheduled for noon to 6 pm on Tuesday for students whose parent or guardian’s last name begins with A-K and Thursday for students whose parent or guardian’s last name begins with L-Z. Both will be held at Twin Rivers High School in Broseley.

There will be booths set up to distribute student class schedules and allow students to have their school picture taken.

GRAND RE-OPENING IS TODAY FOR FOSTERADOPT CONNECT POPLAR BLUFF’S SAMMY’S WINDOW

A Poplar Bluff organization is re-opening a valuable resource for area foster families today.

FosterAdopt Connect Poplar Bluff will be hosting open houses for the grand re-opening of Sammy’s Window from 10 to 11:30 am and 5:30 to 7 pm. There will be cookies and punch available, as well as games and activities for the kids.

Sammy’s Window is a storefront where area foster families are able to shop for free.

Officials say that the shop will be open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday as well as from 9 am to noon on the 1st Saturday every month.
