BODY FOUND IN PEMISCOT COUNTY IDENTIFIED AS POPLAR BLUFF RESIDENT
Updating a story we have been following for you, a body found October 18th in Pemiscot County has been identified as a Poplar Bluff resident.
According to Pemiscot County Sheriff Joe Bryant, the body of 62 year old Roy William Johnson Jr. was found in a field south of Hayti Heights during the early morning hours of the 18th.
Bryant says that Johnson was a Poplar Bluff resident, but was from the Hayti area. It is believed the body was there for about one week.
Bryant added that the matter is still under investigation and anyone who has had recent contact with Johnson is encouraged to contact the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Office at 573-333-4101.
INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE APPROVED FOR SOUTHEAST MISSOURI COUNTIES AFFECTED BY SEVERE WEATHER LAST SPRING
Missouri state officials have announced that President Trump has approved the state’s request for Individual Assistance for 20 counties in southeast and south-central Missouri in response to the severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding from March 30 through April 8.
Counties involved in the request include Butler, Carter, Dunklin, New Madrid, Ripley, Stoddard, and Wayne, among others.
Individuals may seek federal assistance for qualifying disaster-related expenses – including housing repairs, temporary housing, rental assistance, medical and funeral costs not covered by insurance or other aid programs, and replacement of damaged belongings and vehicles.
Individuals who sustained damage or losses not covered by insurance due to the March 30-April 8 severe weather may apply for FEMA disaster assistance online at disasterassistance.gov or by calling FEMA’s toll-free application line at 1-800-621-3362. They can also download the FEMA app to apply.
Affected individuals are encouraged to continue documenting losses and retaining receipts related to recovery expenses.
WESTWOOD BAPTIST ACADEMY IN POPLAR BLUFF WINS MCSAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
A state soccer championship is coming home to Poplar Bluff.
Westwood Baptist Academy defeated Center Place 1-0 Saturday in Joplin to win the MCSAA Division 1 Varsity Soccer Championship.
The Eagles Gage Barker, Robbie Dodd, and Anden Moore were all named first team all state.
This is the Eagles 1st state soccer championship.
DONIPHAN SOFTBALL ADVANCES TO STATE SEMIFINALS
The Doniphan Donettes softball team will be playing in the state semifinals this Friday.
The Donettes defeated the Blair Oaks Falcons on Saturday, 6-5 in the Class 3 State Quarterfinals.
The Donettes now advance to the State Semifinals in Springfield where they will take on the Cassville Lady Cats.
First pitch for that game is scheduled for noon on Halloween.
PAVEMENT REPAIRS SET FOR TODAY ON ROUTE 53 IN BUTLER COUNTY
Route 53 in Butler County will be reduced today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform pavement repairs.
The work zone is located from Route CC to Route 51 near Qulin.
Weather permitting, work will take place today from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
CONCRETE REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS THIS WEEK ON NORTHBOUND US ROUTE 67 IN BUTLER COUNTY
Northbound U.S. Route 67 in Butler County will be impacted this week as construction crews perform concrete repairs.
According to MoDOT, work will take place today through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and work zones will remain in place until the work is completed.
During the project, Northbound Route 67 will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction at the Harviell interchange and the Northbound 160/67 on-ramp will be closed.
