WILLIAMSVILLE MAN PLEADS GUILTY DURING TRIAL

A Williamsville man pleaded guilty to weapon and intimidation charges during his trial.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 62 year old Donald Sanders, who was taken into custody following a vehicle chase in January of 2019 for being a felon in possession of a firearm, as well as attempting to intimidate or threaten a government witness, pleaded guilty during his trial on these charges.

He also admitted to possessing multiple firearms that were stolen from Butler County, as well as escaping from custody in March of 2010, and escape from confinement in December of 2015.

A sentencing date has not been scheduled, however Sanders faces up to 30 years in federal prison for these charges.

HOME HEAVILY DAMAGED FOLLOWING STRUCTURE FIRE IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

A home was heavily damaged in a structure fire in Kennett on Saturday.

According to the Kennett Fire Department, firefighter crews were dispatched to a home on College Avenue, where the house had flames coming from the roof as authorities arrived at the scene. The structure was heavily damaged by the flames before firefighters were able to successfully put out the fire.

The residents of the home were not present at the time of the fire.

SERIOUS INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY

A driver was seriously injured following a vehicle crash in Butler County on Sunday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on US 60, east of Poplar Bluff, where a vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a concrete barrier and a tree.

Following the crash, the driver was transported to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment.

SHOOTING VICTIM IN BUTLER COUNTY IDENTIFIED

The body of a shooting victim on Thursday has been identified.

Butler County Coroner Andy Moore tells KWOC News that the shooting victim has been identified as 29 year old Jessica Holland, of Poplar Bluff, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds.

Few details of the shooting are available, however Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs reports that her body was found near County Road 612 by a passing individual, and that the Butler County and Poplar Bluff Major Case Squad was activated to begin an investigation into her death.

More details will become available as the investigation proceeds.

MORE CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI TOTAL NOW OVER 112,000

Additional cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler County, while the total cases in Missouri have risen past 112,000.

According to the Butler County Health Department, there were 42 cases of the virus reported over the weekend, raising the County’s total to 593. The patients have been placed under quarantine, and the CDC will be working to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious

In Missouri, as of Sunday, there are 112,844 cases of the virus in the state, while 1,795 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

ROADWAYS IN RIPLEY AND STODDARD COUNTIES REDUCED FOR MAINTENANCE

Roadways in Ripley and Stoddard Counties will be reduced today while undergoing maintenance.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, in Ripley County, Eastbound US Route 160, from Route T to Route B, will be reduced while MODOT crews perform erosion repairs on the roadway. The work is set to begin today at 6 am, and is expected to be completed by October 26th.

A section of Route H in Stoddard County, between Route U and County Road 692, will be reduced to one lane while MODOT crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway. The work will begin today at 8 am, and will be completed by 4 pm on Tuesday.

POPLAR BLUFF R-1 MANDATING FACE COVERING FOR STAFF

Officials with the Poplar Bluff R-1 School District have made the decision to mandate the usage of face masks for staff.

According to Superintendent Doctor Scott Dill, the decision was voted on by school staff after 13 bus drivers were quarantined due to being exposed to the coronavirus. PPE will now be required by staff, and capacity for common areas such as teacher lounges will be decreased to further combat any further spread of COVID-19.

Teachers will be required to wear face coverings when they are inside a six foot distance from another person, but can remove the covering while teaching. The mandate only affects staff; students are not being required to wear face coverings or masks.

The school board reported that there are about 300 individuals in quarantine, with 15 active cases of the virus.

SUSPECT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN RELATION TO HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

An arrest was made in relation to a homicide investigation by authorities with the Caruthersville police department.

According to the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department, a suspect was arrested on Thursday with potential evidence to the killing of 29 year old Larry McIntyre Jr., of Caruthersville, who was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in his home on the 300 block of Grand Street in Caruthersville on August 16th. 

The suspect is awaiting transportation to the Pemiscot Couny Jail from Jackson County, where the suspect will be charged on 1st degree murder and armed criminal action.

This is the second arrest made in regards to the homicide. The first arrest was made on 20 year old Zyion Cooper, of Grandview, who was taken into custody on August 20th on 1st degree murder and armed criminal action.

FORMER WORSHIP LEADER OF POPLAR BLUFF CHURCH CHARGED WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY POSSESSION

A former official with a Poplar Bluff church was charged with possession of child pornography.

According to officials in Scott County, 24 year old Zachary Moore was charged with 1st degree promotion of child pornography after sexually explicit videos of young girls were found on his phone.

The charge comes from an investigation made by officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department, after receiving a tip that seven videos confirmed to be child pornography were being sent over instant messaging.

After being traced through the leads discovered, Moore denied owning any of the child pornography, and claimed his cellphone was stolen in January by a co-worker.

A brief investigation into his claims found them to be false, and that Moore had been sending explicit imagery of his wife to another user in exchange for the videos.

AUTHORITIES IN BUTLER COUNTY INVESTIGATING HOMICIDE REPORT

Officials with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department and Poplar Bluff Major Case are currently investigating a homicide.

Few details are available, however authorities with the Department tell KWOC News that a body was found alongside County Road 612, which prompted an immediate investigation by officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department, Butler County Sheriff’s Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control.

WILLIAMSVILLE MAN CHARGED ON MULTIPLE FELONY OFFENSES

A Williamsville man was charged with multiple felony offenses involving firearms.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 62 year old Donald Sanders, who was previously convicted of escaping from custody in Wayne County, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, as well as one charge on attempting to intimidate or threaten a government witness.

These charges stem from an incident that occurred in January of 2019, where Sanders was riding in a truck that authorities attempted to halt. After a brief chase, the truck crashed, and both the driver and Sanders were taken into custody.

A search of the vehicle found four firearms, and a rifle was found that was thrown from the truck while it was being chased. A handgun was also found in a hotel room that was being used by the two suspects. The firearms were confirmed to be stolen from several residences in Butler County.

While Incarcerated in the Butler County Jail, Sanders attempted to persuade a witness not to testify to the firearm charge.

DRIVER AND JUVENILE INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE COLLISION IN STODDARD COUNTY

A driver and a juvenile occupant were injured in a vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Thursday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision took place on Missouri 114, at Missouri 153 near Essex, where a vehicle pulled into the path of another oncoming car.

The driver and young occupant both suffered moderate injuries from the crash, and were transported to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment.

JOHN J. PERSHING VA MEDICAL CENTER OFFERING FLU CLINICS TO LOCAL VETERANS

The Poplar Bluff John J. Pershing VA Medical Center will be offering free flu shots to local veterans in the coming weeks.

According to officials with the Center, there will be weekly drive through immunization clinics throughout late September and early October. To receive a shot, visitors will bring their VA identification cards to the center, and proceed through a tent located at the main entrance.

The clinics will be hosted every weekday from September 21st through October 9th.

THREE DEATHS FROM COVID-19 REPORTED IN STODDARD COUNTY; ADDITIONAL CASES REPORTED ACROSS MISSOURI

There have been three more deaths from the coronavirus reported in Stoddard County, while additional cases of the coronavirus were confirmed across Southeast Missouri.

According to the Stoddard County Health Department, there were three deaths reported from a nursing home in Puxico, making the County’s death total from the virus 14. 10 new patients were also reported on Wednesday, bringing the County’s total to 452. Of them, 99 are currently active, while 339 have recovered.

In Butler County, 11 new cases were reported on Wednesday, bringing the County’s total to 533. Dunklin County’s total confirmed cases rose to 675 yesterday. Of them, 468 have recovered, while 200 are still under self-isolation.

In Missouri, as of Wednesday, there are now 106,587 cases of the virus in the state, while 1,739 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

CITY OF ELLSINORE HOLDING PUBLIC MEETING ON DEVELOPMENT GRANT

There will be a public meeting in the city of Ellsinore in a few weeks.

According to the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission, the city will be hosting the public hearing to discuss the city’s submission of an application for the Community Development Block Grant – Mitigation Program. All citizens are encouraged to come and give input and verbally assist in the meeting.

There will be a Needs Assessment document that will be completed by participants, and will detail what citizens believe to be are the strengths and weaknesses of the community.

The meeting will be held at the Ellsinore City Hall at 11 West Cleveland Avenue, at 5:15 pm on Monday, September 28th.

ROADWAY IN WAYNE COUNTY SCHEDULED TO CLOSE FOR REPAIRS

A roadway in Wayne County will be closed today while undergoing repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route U, from Route FF to County Road 378, will be closed while MODOT crews perform pavement repairs.

The work is scheduled to take place from 8 am to 3 pm.

ARREST MADE IN RELATION TO CARTER COUNTY POACHING CASE

A woman was arrested in relation to a poaching case in Carter County.

Officials with the Carter County Sheriff’s Department report that 50 year old Deborah Flanigan, of Chaffee, was charged with shooting and abandoning a cow elk near M Highway in Carter County. She was also issued citations for illegally hunting the protected species, as well as wasting and abandonment of wildlife.

There are currently five active cases ongoing by the Missouri Department of Conservation related to poaching, and there is a $20,000 reward for any information that will lead to a conviction.

MISSOURI NATIONAL GUARD MOBILIZATION EXTENDED

Missouri Governor Mike Parson has extended the mobilization of the Missouri National Guard.

Governor Parson signed an executive order to extend the Guard’s presence and activity in assisting various projects that help combat the pandemic’s effects throughout Missouri, including testing support, supply and equipment transportation, and meal distribution.

The Guard’s mobilization has been extended to December 30th.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE COLLISION IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

Injuries were reported following a vehicle collision in Pemiscot County on Tuesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Highway 84 in Hayti, where a vehicle failed to yield to another oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the struck vehicle suffered minor injuries, and was transported to a Hayti Hospital for treatment.

TRIAL SET FOR PIEDMONT MAN IN RELATION TO STABBING DEATH

A Piedmont man will be standing trial in relation to the stabbing death of his mother.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 33 year old Daniel Adams has been charged with 1st degree murder, tampering with physical evidence, armed criminal action, and abandonment of a corpse in connection to a crime.

These charges stem from the March 2019 death of his mother, 57 year old Gabrielle Gamble, whose body was found hidden inside a wrapped carpet with multiple stab wounds.

Adams admitted to beating and stabbing his mother after she struck him in the face, as well as hiding the body in the garage of their home on Dogwood Lane.

Adams will stand trial at 9am on October 8th for these charges.

PARAGOULD MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON RAPE CHARGE

A Paragould man was arrested after admitting to raping a woman.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, authorities responded to a call on Friday about a trespasser, where officials found Christopher Butler at the victims home in Greene County. When officers attempted to speak with him, Butler reportedly threw a knife at the law enforcement officers.

After being taken into custody, both Butler and the female victim reported on the rape that took place at the home. He was transported to the Greene County Jail following his arrest, on a $25,000 cash only bond. A no contact order with the female was also issued.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE COLLISION IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision happened on Highway D, west of Parma, where a vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway and was struck by another oncoming car.

The driver of the struck vehicle suffered minor injuries, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI; STATE TOTAL NOW OVER 105,000

More cases of the coronavirus were reported in Southeast Missouri, while the state’s total has risen past 105,000 cases.

According to the Butler County Health Department, 11 new cases were reported on Tuesday, bringing the County’s total to 522. Of them, 443 have recovered, 8 are hospitalized, and 65 are currently under self-isolation. Stoddard County now stands at 442 cases, after 14 new patients were confirmed yesterday. Of the current patients, 101 are active, and 330 have recovered.

The New Madrid County Health Department has reported 5 new cases, bringing the County’s total to 476 cases. Of them, 25 are active, and 451 are out of quarantine.

In Missouri, as of Tuesday, there are now 105,396 cases of the virus in the state, while 1,732 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

GUNSHOTS REPORTED NEAR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN PARAGOULD

Gunshots were reported near an elementary school in Paragould on Tuesday.

According to the Paragould Police Department, resource officers reported hearing gunshots near the school in the afternoon, which prompted multiple law enforcement units to begin searching the area. During the search, the school was placed under lockdown.

After an investigation into the gunfire, the shots were determined to have been fired two blocks away from the campus, and were not related to the school. Officials with the Paragould Police Department report that no one at the school district was in danger from the gunfire.

A subject has been taken into custody in regards to the shooting, and the investigation is currently ongoing.

CAPE GIRARDEAU MAN CHARGED IN STABBING OF POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN AND CHILD

A Cape Girardeau man was arrested in relation to the stabbing of a Poplar Bluff woman and child on Saturday.

Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tell KWOC News that 26 year old Anthony Allbritton has been charged with two felony counts of assault, 1st degree, as well as burglary, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action.

These charges stem from an investigation made by authorities in Butler County on Saturday, where 48 year old Rosemary Durbin, as well as her 13 year old foster daughter, was found with multiple stab wounds at their home on Meghan Lane.

They told authorities that Allbritton had entered the home from the back entrance, and hid in the teen’s room when she and Durbin returned home. He assaulted and stabbed the teen multiple times with knives taken from the home, and proceeded to attack Durbin when she entered the room to assist the child.

Both Durbin and the 13 year old were transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Allbritton was booked at the Butler County Jail on Sunday, with no bond.

MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN RIPLEY COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION

A man was arrested in Ripley County on Monday on methamphetamine possession.

According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, 24 year old Caleb House, of Oxly, was taken into custody on felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY

A driver was injured following a vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Sunday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Highway J, south of Cobb, where a vehicle ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and then overturned.

The driver suffered moderate injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

11th DEATH RELATED TO COVID-19 REPORTED IN STODDARD COUNTY; BUTLER AND NEW MADRID COUNTIES REPORT NEW CASES

Stoddard County has reported its 11th death from the coronavirus, while new cases were reported in Butler and New Madrid Counties.

According to the Stoddard County Health Department, the patient passed away early Monday morning, while being cared for at a Poplar Bluff hospital. No personal information about the patient will be released at this time.

In Butler County, 9 additional cases were reported on Monday, raising the County’s total to 511 cases. Of them, 443 have recovered, 6 are hospitalized, and 56 are still in self isolation. New Madrid County has reported 6 new patients, bringing the County’s total cases to 471. Of them, 21 are active, and 450 have recovered.

In Missouri, as of Monday, there are now a total of 104,079 cases of the virus in the state, while 1,714 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

A Poplar Bluff woman was taken into custody in New Madrid County on Saturday on drug related charges.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 29 year old Arieal Lovins was arrested on felony possession of a controlled substance – ecstasy, as well as a charge on possession of marijuana.

She was transported to the New Madrid County Jail following her arrest.

ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY, MISSOURI TOTAL NOW OVER 100,000

More cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler County, while the total cases of the virus in Missouri have risen past 100,000.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, there were 27 additional cases reported over the weekend, raising the County’s total to 502 cases. The patients have been self-isolated, and the department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Sunday, there are now 102,747 confirmed cases of the virus in the state, while 1,705 deaths were directly linked to the disease.

MAN ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES

A man was taken into custody in New Madrid County on Sunday on multiple drug possession charges.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 46 year old Stephen Joiner, of Cape Girardeau, was arrested on two felony possession of a controlled substance charges – methamphetamine and amphetamine, as well as two charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the New Madrid County Jail.

ROADWAY IN BUTLER AND STODDARD COUNTIES SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION DURING BRIDGE REPAIRS

A roadway stretching through Stoddard and Butler Counties will be reduced while undergoing bridge repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Eastbound US Route 60, from Route 51 to Route DD near Fisk, will be reduced while MODOT crews repair the bridge over the Saint Francis River.

The work is set to begin today at 6 am, and is expected to be completed by tomorrow at 5 pm.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN WAYNE COUNTY

A driver was injured following a vehicle crash in Wayne County on Saturday.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, the incident took place on Missouri 34, east of Silva, where a vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver suffered moderate injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

DEXTER MAN BOOKED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON SODOMY AND MISCONDUCT CHARGES

A Dexter man was taken into custody in Stoddard County on Friday on sodomy and sexual misconduct charges.

Officials with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 29 year old Ean Wilson was booked on Statutory Sodomy or Attempted Statutory Sodomy – deviate sexual intercourse of a person less than 12 years of age, as well of 3 counts of sexual misconduct involving a child under 15.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Stoddard County Jail.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON ASSAULT AND DRUG CHARGES

A Poplar Bluff man was arrested in New Madrid County on assault and drug charges on Saturday.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 41 year old Landress King was taken into custody on a felony Poplar Bluff warrant for assault, as well as felony possession of a controlled substance – six hydrocodone pills.

He was transported to the New Madrid County Jail following his arrest.

AUTHORITIES IN BUTLER COUNTY SEARCHING FOR MISSING MAN

Authorities are currently searching for a missing man in Butler County.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that the Sheriff’s Office is searching for Jacob Sliger, of Poplar Bluff. He is described as a heavy built white male with red hair, in his early 20’s. A picture of him is available on the KWOC Facebook page.

Sliger has been missing since Wednesday morning, and anyone who has information on his whereabouts, or has heard from him, is asked to contact the Butler County Sheriff’s Office at 573-785-8444.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER BRANDISHING WEAPON AT LOCAL PARK

A local man was arrested after brandishing a firearm at Ferguson Grove Park in Poplar Bluff on Thursday.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, 41 year old Casual Banks was taken into custody after he was seen holding and threatening visitors of the park with a handgun. Authorities found the gun laying near a tree after witnesses saw him attempting to hide it, and he later admitted to recently purchasing the weapon, which he knew was stolen.

Banks is a convicted felon who was recently released from prison, and this case will be forwarded to the Federal Prosecutor for review.

SERIOUS INJURIES REPORTED FROM VEHICLE CRASH IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

Serious injuries were reported in Pemiscot County after a vehicle crashed on Thursday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on I-55 south bound, south of Steele, where a vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Following the crash, the driver was transported by air to a Memphis hospital for treatment.

TODAY IS THE 19TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TERRORISTS ATTACKS OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

Today is the 19th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that resulted in the deaths of almost 3,000 people.

Terrorists hijacked four planes and crashed two of them into the World Trade Center buildings in New York City. A third plane was flown into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. The fourth plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.

Thousands of 9/11 victims' relatives, survivors, rescuers and others are expected to gather today at Ground Zero to remember the deadliest terror attack on American soil.

MAN ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES

A Sikeston man was taken into custody in New Madrid County on drug and weapon charges.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 24 year old Daron Robinson was charged with felony unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana, speed, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

RIPLEY COUNTY REPORTS FIRST DEATH RELATED TO COVID-19; ADDITIONAL CASES REPORTED ACROSS MISSOURI

Ripley County has reported its first death related to the coronavirus, while more cases have been reported across Missouri.

According to the Ripley County Health Center, the patient passed away early Thursday morning. The County currently has 31 active cases, while 91 have recovered.

In Butler County, 17 new cases were reported, raising the County’s total to 474. Meanwhile, Dunklin County has reported 29 new cases, bringing the County’s total cases to 593. Of them, 428 have recovered, and 158 are currently in self-isolation.

In Missouri, as of Thursday, there are 97,591 confirmed cases of the virus in the state, while 1,691 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

COVID-19 OUTBREAK REPORTED IN STODDARD COUNTY NURSING HOME; WAYNE COUNTY COURTHOUSE WORKER TESTS POSITIVE

An outbreak of the coronavirus was reported in a Stoddard County nursing home, while a courthouse worker in Wayne County has tested positive for the virus.

According to the Stoddard County Health Department, an undisclosed situation occurred at a Puxico nursing home, which led to a facility wide testing over the weekend. The results found that 18 residents and 5 staff members of the home were positive for the coronavirus. Measures are being taken to remedy and halt any further spread of the disease.

Meanwhile, the courthouse of Wayne County has moved to operating phase one after one of its employees tested positive. Officials with the courthouse will be implementing further precautions when deciding to let anyone visit the building.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN BUTLER COUNTY ON DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES

A Poplar Bluff man was arrested in Butler County on Tuesday on drug and weapon offenses.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 35 year old Robert Dowins was taken into custody on felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a firearm, and receiving stolen property.

He was also charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance – marijuana.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT SEARCHING FOR SUSPECT IN RELATION TO AUTO THEFT

Authorities with the Poplar Bluff Police Department are searching for a suspect in relation to an auto theft.

The male suspect was caught on video surveillance in an attempt to steal a vehicle, and the video is available on the Poplar Bluff Police Department’s Facebook page.

DEATH RELATED TO COVID-19 REPORTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY; MISSOURI TOTAL NOW OVER 96,000

New Madrid County has reported another coronavirus related death, while Missouri’s total cases have risen past 96,000.

According to the New Madrid County Health Department, the 10th death related to COVID-19 was reported on Wednesday, along with two new cases of the virus, raising the County’s total to 450. Of them, 28 are currently active, and 422 have recovered.

In Butler County, seventeen additional cases were reported, making the County’s total cases 454, 381 of which have recovered, while 62 are still under isolation. Five patients in the County are currently hospitalized.

Stoddard County has confirmed 26 new cases since Wednesday, raising the total cases in the County to 383. Of the patients, 75 are active, and 298 have recovered.

In Missouri as of Wednesday, there are a total of 96,475 confirmed cases in the state, while 1,673 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

MAN ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES

A man was arrested in New Madrid County on Wednesday on drug possession charges.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 37 year old Brandon Byers, of Park Hills, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was transported to the New Madrid County Jail following his arrest.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE COLLISION IN WAYNE COUNTY

A driver was injured in a vehicle collision that took place in Wayne County on Wednesday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the incident happened on Route E, west of Lowndes, where a vehicle crossed the center of the roadway and struck another car.

The driver of the crossing vehicle suffered serious injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

ROADWAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY CLOSED FOR CULVERT REPLACEMENTS

A roadway in Dunklin County will be closed today while undergoing maintenance.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route DD, extending from County Road 201 to County Road 216, will be closed while MODOT crews replace culverts underneath the roadway.

The repairs will begin at 8 am, and is expected to be completed by 3 pm.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATING POSSIBLE HOMICIDE

Local authorities are currently investigating a potential homicide that took place on Tuesday.

Officials with the department report that authorities responded to a call of an incident that happened in the 1500 block of Vincent Street, involving an unnamed victim. The suspect in the homicide is a family member, and is currently in custody.

The investigation into the homicide is currently ongoing.

LOCAL WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGE

A sentencing has been set for a Poplar Bluff woman after she pleaded guilty to a child pornography charge.

Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tell KWOC News that Amber Longhibler pleaded guilty to a felony charge of sexual exploitation of a minor, as well as engaging in multiple instances of sexual exploitation of a child, with the intent of producing video depiction of these instances.

Authorities went on to interview her co-defendant, Brandon Hopper, in which he admitted that they had been exchanging pornographic material over their phones.

Investigators found multiple instances of sexually explicit imagery on the phones used, which showed a minor under 18 years old, who is related to Longhibler.

Longhibler’s sentencing is set for December 8th, and faces a minimum of 15 years for these charges. Hopper has been indicted on the felony charge of sexual exploitation of a child, and distribution of child pornography. He has a trail set for October 20th.

ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN STODDARD AND NEW MADRID COUNTIES; MISSOURI TOTAL NOW OVER 95,000

More cases of the coronavirus were reported in Stoddard and New Madrid Counties, while Missouri’s total has risen past 95,000.

According to the Stoddard County Health Department, four new cases were reported on Tuesday, raising the County’s total to 357 cases. Of them, 51 are active, and 296 have recovered. New Madrid County also saw four confirmed patients, bringing the total cases in the County to 448. Of these, 34 are currently active, and 414 have recovered.

The new patients have been placed under self-isolation, and the departments will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Tuesday, there are now 95,113 total cases in the state, while 1,661 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

TRAFFIC AND BOATING STATISTICS FROM LABOR DAY WEEKEND RELEASED

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released the traffic and boating statistics from the Labor Day weekend.

Over the counting period, Missouri saw 274 traffic crashes, 124 injuries, and 13 fatalities statewide. There were also 15 boating crashes and 6 injuries reported. A total of 101 drug arrests were made state-wide.

The counting period ran from 6 pm on Friday, through 11:59 pm Monday.

SERIOUS INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE COLLISION IN STODDARD COUNTY

Serious injuries were reported in Stoddard County after two vehicles collided on Tuesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident happened when a vehicle crossed the centerline of Route C, west of Advance, where it struck another oncoming vehicle head on.

After the crash, the driver of the struck vehicle was transported to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment.

MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN BUTLER COUNTY ON MULTIPLE CHARGES

A man was arrested in Butler County on Monday on multiple charges.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 27 year old Randolph Frazier, of Columbia, South Carolina, was taken into custody on felony possession of a controlled substance – molly, resisting arrest by fleeing, possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and tampering with a motor vehicle.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Stoddard County Jail.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN SENTENCED ON BURGLARY CASE

A Poplar Bluff man was sentenced to time in federal prison after pleading guilty to a burglary charge.

Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tell KWOC News that Christopher Darnell was charged with felony possession of stolen ammunition, after he admitted to stealing the ammo from a local store in April of 2019. Darnell was also caught on video surveillance carrying two pails of stolen ammunition from the store.

He now faces up to 10 years in federal prison, with a sentencing set for December 3rd.

DEXTER MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES

A Dexter man was arrested in Stoddard County on drug possession charges on Friday.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 41 year old Aaron Aarant was booked on possession of a controlled substance – except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, on a $20,000 cash only bond.

INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

Injuries were reported in New Madrid County on Monday following a vehicle crash.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash took place on Route AE, west of Kewanee, where a vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

An occupant of the vehicle was seriously injured from the crash, and was transported to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment.

MAN ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON MULTIPLE DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES

A man was taken into custody in New Madrid County on Friday on multiple drug and weapon charges.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 33 year old Octavious Johnson, of Memphis Tennessee, was arrested on two felony possession of a controlled substance charges – 21 xanax pills and liquid codeine, as well as felony unlawful use of a weapon, receiving stolen property, and possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the New Madrid County Jail.

ROADWAY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION DURING REPAIRS

A roadway in New Madrid County will be reduced while undergoing multiple repair efforts.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, north and southbound Interstate 55 will be undergoing several projects starting today, including pavement repairs from mile marker 32 in Portageville to mile marker 45 to New Madrid.

The work will be held on multiple locations across the roadway, and motorists should expect a lane reduction with a 16 foot width restriction.

The projects will take place from today until Thursday, from 7 am to 7 pm daily.

MORE CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED ACROSS MISSOURI; STATE TOTAL NOW OVER 88,000

More cases of the coronavirus were reported across Missouri, while the state’s total has risen past 88,000.

According to the Butler County Health Department, seven new cases were reported on Thursday, bringing the County’s total to 410 cases. Of them, 354 have recovered, 4 are hospitalized, and 46 are still under quarantine.

Stoddard County also saw seven additional cases, making the total in the County 338, 50 of which are currently active, with 278 having recovered.

Meanwhile, New Madrid County has confirmed ten additional cases, making the County’s total 419. Three more deaths were also reported, that were caused by COVID-19. 61 of the current patients are active, while 358 are out of quarantine.

In Missouri, as of Thursday, there are now a total of 88,610 cases in the state, while 1,545 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

Officials with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 26 year old Kile Pennington, of Essex, was booked on stealing – firearm, explosive weapon/ammonium nitrate, as well as a charge on parole violation.

He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, with no bond.

A Piedmont woman was arrested in Wayne County on Wednesday on a drug possession charge.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 39 year old Angelynn Bohannan was charged with a felony Wayne County warrant on amphetamine possession.

Following her arrest, she was transported to the Wayne County Jail.

AUTHORITIES IN BUTLER COUNTY SEARCHING FOR SUSPECT IN SHOOTING

Officials with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department are searching for a suspect in relation to a shooting on Wednesday.

Authorities with the Department tell KWOC News that 29 year old Tyler Wangler is currently being searched for by authorities as a person of interest in the shooting that took place at the 100 block of Regency Lane on Wednesday, where a male victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the Hilliard area, and transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Wangler is also wanted on an outstanding Butler County warrant on tampering with a motor vehicle, with a $50,000 bond. He is described as a white male, approximately 5’11 and 185 lbs with short brown hair, and is considered armed and dangerous.

THREE INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE COLLISION IN RIPLEY COUNTY

Three injuries were reported following a vehicle collision in Ripley County on Tuesday.

According to officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident happened on US 160, east of Doniphan, where a vehicle struck the rear of another car that was stopped in the roadway, which was attempting to make a left hand turn.

The driver, along with two occupants of the struck vehicle, suffered minor injuries from the collision, and were all transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

There will be free COVID-19 testing sites in Butler County next week.

Officials with the Butler County Health Department tell KWOC News that there will be two days for testing in the upcoming weeks, one on September 10th, and one on September 14th, both from 5 to 7 pm.

ESSEX MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON MULTIPLE RAPE AND SODOMY CHARGES

An Essex man was arrested in Stoddard County on Tuesday on multiple rape and sodomy related charges.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 31 year old Shea Johnson was booked on 1st degree statutory rape or attempted statutory rape of a person less than 12 years of age, statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy, five counts of deviate sexual intercourse of a person less than 12 years of age, and three counts of incest.

He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, on no bond.

SIXTH DEATH OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY; ADDITIONAL CASES REPORTED ACROSS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

More cases of the coronavirus were reported in Missouri, while New Madrid County has announced its sixth death from the disease.

In Butler County, six new cases were confirmed since Wednesday, raising the County’s total to 403. Stoddard County saw seven new patients, making the County’s total 331. Of them, 47 are currently active, and 274 have recovered.

New Madrid County reported 13 additional cases of the virus, making the total in the County 419. Of them, 61 are currently in isolation, and 358 have recovered from the virus.

In Missouri, as of Wednesday, there are now 87,213 cases of the coronavirus in the state, while 1,542 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

ARREST MADE IN WAYNE COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES

A man was taken into custody in Wayne County on Tuesday on drug possession charges.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 56 year old Bobby Kennedy, of Piedmont, was arrested on felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department.

Butler County Sheriff: Shooting Investigation Underway After Male Subject Found in the Hillard Area Shot Multiple Times

Authorities in Butler County are currently investigating a shooting that took place on Wednesday afternoon.

Few details are being released at this time, however Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News, his office responded to a report of a male subject shot multiple times in the Hillard area, located off of Highway W, in Northern Butler County.

The male victim was transported by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center with non life threatening injuries.

Sheriff Dobbs also stated he is certain this is a drug related situation.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER VEHICLE CHECK FINDS MULTIPLE FIREARMS

A Poplar Bluff resident was arrested on Tuesday after a vehicle search found multiple firearms.

Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tell KWOC News that authorities responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked behind a local store while it was closed.

When officers arrived at the scene, a black male was in the drivers seat, identified as 29 year old Terrell Williams Jr., who was previously convicted with felony drug and weapon charges. Authorities smelled marijuana coming from the car, prompting a thorough search of the vehicle.

The search found three 9mm handguns, alongside 7 magazines and around 70 rounds of ammunition. One of the firearms was reported stolen from Butler County. The weaponry was seized, and Williams Jr. was booked at the Butler County Jail pending formal charges of stealing a firearm, and unlawful possession of a firearm after he admitted to owning the stolen weapon.

Federal charges from the ATF are expected.

ARRESTS MADE IN SHOOTING INVESTIGATION IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

Two arrests were made following an investigation in Kennett after a woman was shot on Thursday.

Officials with the Kennett Police Department tell KWOC News that authorities responded to a call of shots fired in the 500 block of North Walnut Street in Kennett, where 28 year old Jessica Calloway, of Kennett, was found with gunshot wounds. She was later flown to a Memphis hospital for treatment.

Following an investigation into the shooting, 21 year old Jecarious Toliver and 35 year old Hershey Nelson, both of Kennett, were taken into custody in relation to the incident. Toliver was charged on 1st degree assault, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action. Nelson was booked on unlawful use of a weapon.

They were both transported to the Dunklin County Jail following their arrests.

ROADWAY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION DURING BRIDGE REPAIRS

A roadway in New Madrid County will be reduced while undergoing bridge repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route D, from County Road 521 to County Road 531, will be reduced with a 10-foot width restriction while MODOT crews repair the bridge over a drainage ditch.

The work is scheduled to begin today at 7 am, and is expected to be completed by 5 pm.

ADDITIONAL COVID-19 CASES REPORTED ACROSS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI; POPLAR BLUFF R-1 CONFIRMS STUDENT CASE

Additional cases of the coronavirus were reported in Southeast Missouri, while the Poplar Bluff R-1 school district confirmed one of its students tested positive.

Officials with the school district confirmed that a student tested positive for the virus, which led to 33 students being sent home through contact tracing. Those who were sent home will be self-isolated for 14 days from the time of contact, or 10 days if they are showing symptoms, regardless of if they’ve been tested.

In Butler County, 10 new patients were confirmed, raising the County’s total to 397. Of them, 338 have recovered, 4 are currently hospitalized, and 49 are still under self isolation.

Five additional cases were reported in Stoddard County, making its case total 324. Of them, 44 are still active, and 270 have recovered. New Madrid County has confirmed 406 cases, 53 of which are currently active, while 353 have recovered.

A Poplar Bluff woman was arrested in Butler County on Tuesday on methamphetamine possession.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 24 year old Mence Roller was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, as well as possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following her arrest, she was transported to the Butler County Jail.

ARREST MADE, INVESTIGATION CONTINUES FOR SHOOTING REPORT IN POPLAR BLUFF

Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, a suspect has been identified from a Poplar Bluff shooting on Friday.

Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tell KWOC News that 22 year old Carl Dailey was charged with 1st degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action.

These charges stem from the shooting that took place at a local restaurant on Friday, where a group of patrons were arguing with four black males in front of the business. Following a brief verbal altercation, they began exchanging gunfire. Multiple shots were fired, but no injuries were reported.

A search warrant was issued, where officers found a bore brush, magazine speed loader, an envelope holding two shell casings, and a container of .45 ammo with nine live rounds.

The investigation into the shooting is currently ongoing, and more arrests are expected as it proceeds.

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected across Southeast Missouri this week.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are expected throughout today and tonight. Strong and damaging winds may be produced by some of the storms.

More thunderstorms are expected from Wednesday to Monday, with heavy rainfall and lightning accompanying them from Sunday night through Monday.

LOCAL DRIVER INJURED IN BUTLER COUNTY VEHICLE COLLISION

A Poplar Bluff driver was injured following a vehicle collision in Butler County on Monday.

According to officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision took place on Missouri 53, south of Poplar Bluff, where a vehicle crossed the center line of the roadway and struck another oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the struck vehicle suffered minor injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

MORE CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN MISSOURI; BUTLER COUNTY JAIL EMPLOYEE TESTS POSITIVE

More cases of the coronavirus were recorded in Missouri on Monday.

In Butler County last week, an employee at the Butler County Justice Center tested positive for COVID-19, which led to extended sanitation work in the building, as well as testing for anyone who made contact with the worker.

According to the Butler County Health Department, a new case was reported on Monday, raising the County’s total to 387 cases. The patient has been placed under self isolation, and the department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patient was active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Monday, there are a total of 84,697 cases in the state, and 1,530 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

DEXTER MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON ASSAULT AND PROPERTY DAMAGE

A Dexter man was arrested in Stoddard County on Monday on assault and damage charges.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 39 year old Bradley Cooper was booked on a state warrant on 4th degree assault, 1st degree property damage, and trespassing.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Stoddard County Jail on a $30,000 cash only bond.

MILD EARTHQUAKE REPORTED IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

A mild earthquake was reported in Pemiscot County on Monday.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake was reported at about 9:30 am, around 4 miles east of Steele, along the New Madrid County fault line.

It registered with a depth of about 4 miles, and had a recorded magnitude of 2.7.

VAN BUREN POLICE DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATION SHOOTING INCIDENT

Officials with the Van Buren Police Department are currently investigating a shooting report that took place on Sunday.

According to the Department, an unnamed 31 year old man from Dexter was shot at a campground within city limits, and was transported to a St. Louis hospital in serious condition.

The shooter has been identified as a member of his own party, and an accidental shooting has not been ruled out by the department. The incident is currently under investigation.

ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI TOTAL NOW OVER 85,000

Fourteen additional cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler County, while Missouri’s total has risen past 85,000.

According to the Butler County Health Department, the County’s total cases now stands at 386. The additional patients have been placed under self-isolation, and the department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Sunday, there are now 85,076 total cases in the state, and 1,615 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

THREE JUVENILES AND TWO ADULTS INJURED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY VEHICLE COLLISION

Three Juveniles and two adults were injured following a vehicle collision in New Madrid County on Saturday.

According to officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident happened on US 61 at US 62, where a vehicle pulled into the path of another oncoming car, and was struck.

Three juveniles suffered minor injuries, while an occupant of the same vehicle was moderately injured. The driver of the oncoming car suffered moderate injuries. They were all transported to a hospital in Sikeston for treatment.

SHOOTING CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION IN POPLAR BLUFF

An arrest has been made after a shooting was reported at a local restaurant in Poplar Bluff on Friday.

Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tell KWOC News that an unnamed suspect was taken into custody after four black males were seen stopped in the street by the restaurant, yelling at a patron before gunfire was exchanged.

Police Chief Danny Whiteley reported that the public is not considered to be in danger, as the suspects involved were only firing at each other.

No injuries were reported, however multiple shots were fired. The suspect was interviewed by the department, and the investigation into the shooting is currently ongoing.

PORTAGEVILLE WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN NEW MADRID ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION

A Portageville woman was arrested on drug possession charges on Sunday.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 31 year old Jamie Hayes was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance – except 35 grams or less or marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was also charged with multiple felony counts in relation to motor vehicle licenses and operations, and was transported to the New Madrid County Jail following her arrest.

DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED IN VEHICLE CRASH IN RIPLEY COUNTY

Serious injuries were reported from a vehicle crash in Ripley County on Saturday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash took place when a vehicle ran off the right side of Route JJ, south of Fairdealing, where it overcorrected and ran off the left side of the roadway, causing it to strike a ditch and overturn.

Following the crash, the driver was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

TWO PEMISCOT COUNTY MEN ARRESTED IN MURDER INVESTIGATION

Two men were taken into custody in Pemiscot County in a murder investigation.

Officials with the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 22 year old Jamieon Johnson, and 23 year old Andre Haymon, of Hayti, were charged on armed criminal action and suspicion of 1st degree murder on Thursday. These charges stem from an investigation made by authorities in the death of 37 year old Cedric Winters, of Hayti, whose body was found in a pond in Blytheville.

His body was found with gunshot wounds, and Johnson and Haymon were seen dumping the body into the lake. The investigation into Winters’ murder is ongoing, and more arrests are possible.

WOMAN CHARGED IN PARAGOULD AFTER ATTEMPTED ESCAPE FROM CUSTODY

A woman was arrested on Tuesday after attempting to escape from police custody.

According to the Paragould Police Department, 27 year old Mariah Albert, of Jonesboro, was being transported on Tuesday to the Greene County Jail on a felony warrant, where she fled from the police cruiser while it was waiting to enter the Craighead County detention center.

She was later located south of Rockingchair Road, and transported to the Greene County Jail. She was later charged with suspicion of escape, and fleeing from police custody.

ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI TOTAL NOW OVER 80,000

More cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler County, while Missouri’s total has passed 80,000.

According to the Butler County Health Department, seven additional cases were reported in the County, raising its total to 371. Of them 287 have recovered, five are currently hospitalized, and 74 are still in self-isolation. The new patients have been isolated, and the department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the disease while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Thursday, there are 80,813 cases in the state, and 1,583 deaths have been linked to the disease.

LAS VEGAS MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON MULTIPLE DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES

A man from Las Vegas was arrested in New Madrid County on multiple drug possession charges.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 33 year old Amy Kim was charged with several felony possession of a controlled substance charges, including amphetamine, alprazolam, oxycodone, four counts of possession of ecstasy, and five counts of possession of marijuana.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the New Madrid County Jail.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING BUTLER COUNTY VEHICLE CRASH

A Poplar Bluff driver was injured after his vehicle crashed in Butler County on Thursday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on US 160, east of Fairdealing, where a vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver suffered moderate injuries from the incident, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON ASSAULT AND ROBBERY CHARGES

A man was taken into custody in Stoddard County on assault and robbery charges.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 23 year old Austin Henderson, of Dexter, was booked on 1st degree assault or attempt- serious physical injury or special victim, and 1st degree robbery.

He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, on a $85,000 cash only bond.

REMNANTS OF HURRICANE LAURA COULD DROP MULTIPLE INCHES OF RAIN ON THE AREA

Weather officials say that the remnants of Hurricane Laura could cause some heavy rainfall over the area on Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, rainfall totals are forecast to range from two and a half to three inches for most of Southeast Missouri, with isolated higher amounts possible.

In the Missouri Bootheel, as well as Clay and Greene Counties in Northeast Arkansas, two to three inches of rainfall is forecast with localized higher amounts also possible.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect through Friday evening for Butler, Dunklin, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Ripley, and Stoddard Counties in Southeast Missouri. 

According to a Hazardous Weather Outlook by the National Weather Service, a few strong to severe storms are possible. The main hazards with the storms will be damaging winds and possibly brief tornadoes.

VEHICLE AND FREIGHTER FIRE REPORTED IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

A vehicle fire was reported from a collision in Pemiscot County on Tuesday.

Officials with the Hayti Fire Department tell KWOC News that authorities responded to a call of a vehicle fire past B, Z, and 412 highway, where a freightliner tractor and trailer were completely engulfed in flames. The freighter collided with the truck, causing it to veer off the highway.

Another crash took place on the roadway where traffic was diverted from the original collision, where the drivers had to be extracted from their vehicles.

Later in the same day, another tractor fire was reported near A and 412 Highway, west of Hayti. No injuries were reported, however the semi sustained heavy damage from the flames.

ROADWAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY SCHEDULED TO CLOSE FOR BRIDGE REPAIRS

A roadway in Pemiscot County will be closed while undergoing bridge maintenance.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route A, between County Road 228 and County road 286, will be closed while contractor crews replace the bridge over a drainage ditch near Bragg City.

The work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, and is expected to be completed on December 1st.

11 ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; DEATHS REPORTED IN STODDARD AND WAYNE COUNTIES

Eleven additional cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler County, while two deaths were reported in Stoddard and Wayne Counties.

According to the Butler County Health Department, the additional cases have risen the County’s total to 364. Of them, 287 have recovered, 7 are hospitalized, and 67 are currently under self-isolation. The new patients have been placed under isolation, and the department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

Additionally, Stoddard County saw its 10th COVID-19 related death on Wednesday, while Wayne County has reported its 3rd death caused by the virus.

In Missouri, as of Wednesday, there are a total of 79,494 confirmed cases in the state, and 1,566 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

THREE INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE COLLISION IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

Three were injured in a vehicle collision in Pemiscot County on Tuesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision took place on US 412, at Highway Z, where a vehicle failed to yield to another oncoming vehicle, and was struck by the car.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries, and were transported to a Pemiscot hospital. A juvenile occupant of the oncoming car suffered serious injuries, and was transported by air to a Memphis hospital for treatment.

MAN ARRESTED IN DUNKLIN COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGE

A man was taken into custody in Dunklin County on a drug possession charge on Wednesday.

According to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department, 40 year old Chad Gentry, of Campbell, was arrested on a Dunklin County felony warrant on possession of a controlled substance.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Dunklin County Jail.

TWO SEPARATE FIRE INCIDENTS REPORTED IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

Officials responded to two fires that were reported in Dunklin County on Wednesday.

According to the Kennett Fire Department, the first flame was a structure fire on 6th street, where the house was engulfed with flames and heavy smoke by the time firefighters arrived at the scene. The occupants of the home were not inside at the time of the fire.

The second fire was reported at a fully engulfed trailer inside city limits, where cardboard boxes were found ignited. An investigation into this incident is currently ongoing.

MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON BURGLARY CHARGES

A man was taken into custody in Stoddard County on burglary charges.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 26 year old Zachary Swoboda, of Dexter, was booked on 2nd degree Burglary, stealing, and 2nd degree property damage.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Stoddard County Jail.

SERIOUS INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

Serious injuries were reported following a vehicle crash in New Madrid County.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that a vehicle was traveling down US Highway 61, south of Sikeston, where it struck a ditch and overturned.

Following the crash, the driver was transported to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment.

TWO DRIVERS INJURED IN VEHICLE COLLISION IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

Two drivers were injured in a vehicle collision in Pemiscot County on Tuesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident took place on US 412, west of Hayti, where a vehicle struck another oncoming vehicle in the rear.

The driver of the first vehicle suffered serious injuries and was flown to a Memphis hospital, and the driver of the struck vehicle was transported to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment.

ROADWAY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION DURING REPAIRS

A roadway in New Madrid County will be reduced while undergoing repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, north and southbound Interstate 55, from mile marker 32 at Portageville, to marker 45 in New Madrid, will be reduced while several projects are underway, including pavement repairs.

The work is scheduled to begin today, and is expected to be completed by September 3rd.

MALDEN MURDER SUSPECT FOUND AND TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, a Malden murder suspect was apprehended and arrested on Monday.

Officials with the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 38 year old Steven Kirkwood was taken into custody on 2nd degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and armed criminal action.

These charges stem from an investigation into the shooting death of Ryan Lehing on Saturday, where authorities responded to a call about a shooting at a home in the 200 block of North Decatur Street. When authorities arrived, Lehing was found with gunshot wounds. Officials attempted to render aid to him, however he succumbed to his injuries.

Witness reports state that Kirkwood and Lehnig got into a verbal dispute, where Kirkwood retrieved a handgun and shot Lehning inside the house. He was seen leaving the home while bleeding.

Kirkwood was located at a hotel in Marston, where he was taken into custody without incident. He will be transported to the Dunklin County Jail, and will be held with no bond.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT SEARCHING FOR THIEF

The Poplar Bluff Police Department is currently searching for a suspect in a local theft.

According to the department, a man was caught on video surveillance stealing from a local business. The video of the suspect is available on the Poplar Bluff Police Department’s Facebook page.

SERIOUS INJURIES REPORTED FROM VEHICLE CRASH IN RIPLEY COUNTY

A driver was seriously injured in a vehicle crash in Ripley County on Monday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on State Highway 142, east of Doniphan, where a vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver, who was not wearing a safety device at the time of the crash, was transported by air to a Memphis hospital for treatment.

WOMAN ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION

A woman was taken into custody in New Madrid County on Monday on drug possession charges.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 41 year old Heather Black, of Cordova Tennessee, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana.

She was transported to the New Madrid County Jail following her arrest.

FIREFIGHTER CREWS RESPOND TO FIRE AT DUNKLIN COUNTY RESTAURANT

A fire was reported at a restaurant in Dunklin County on Monday.

According to the Kennett Fire Department, firefighter crews were dispatched to a report of a fire at a restaurant, where moderate flames and smoke were coming from the building by the time crews arrived at the scene.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is suspected to be a malfunctioning electrical box.
