MALDEN MAN CURRENTLY WANTED AS MURDER SUSPECT

Authorities in Malden are searching for the whereabouts of a man who is wanted as a murder suspect.

According to the Malden Police Department, Steven Kirkwood, of Malden, is currently being searched for on a no bond arrest warrant for 2nd degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

These charges stem from an investigation made by the department, after authorities received a call around 9 pm on Saturday about a death near the intersection of North Decatur and East Howard. There, officials found the body of Ryan Lehning, of Malden, who was seen arguing with Kirkwood, before he was shot by him inside his home.

Kirkwood is considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached. Anyone with information as to his whereabouts is asked to contact the Malden Police Department by calling 573-276-2211.

FATALITY REPORTED FOLLOWING BUTLER COUNTY VEHICLE CRASH

A fatality was reported following a vehicle crash in Butler County on Saturday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on State Highway 51, south of Qulin, where a vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned, ejecting the driver.

An occupant of the vehicle was seriously injured, and was flown to a Memphis hospital for treatment. The driver, 27 year old Austin Pruitt, of Jonesboro, who was not wearing a safety device at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.

FIFTH DEATH FROM COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI TOTAL CONTINUES TO RISE

Another death was reported from the coronavirus in Butler County, while the total cases in Missouri has continued to increase.

According to the Butler County Health Department, the County has seen its fifth death from the virus, while the County’s total cases have increased to 351. The new patients have been self-quarantined, and the department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Sunday, there have been 76,287 cases of the virus reported in the state, and 1,519 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

SCHOOLS ACROSS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI OPENING WITH CAUTION

The new school year is starting up across Missouri, and school officials are urging caution to returning students.

Officials with Missouri school districts are advising returning students to take an active approach to keep safe and healthy as the school year begins, including maintaining social distancing, keeping hygiene in mind, and steering clear of large gatherings.

School Boards have continued with their back to school plans involving distance learning and reduced classes, and the situation will continue to be monitored as time passes.

ONE DEAD, ONE SERIOUSLY INJURED IN VEHICLE COLLISION IN BUTLER COUNTY

A driver was killed, and an occupant was seriously injured as a result of a vehicle collision in Butler County on Friday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that a vehicle failed to yield on US 67, north of Poplar Bluff, causing it to pull into the path of another oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, 65 year old Sally Ice, of Poplar Bluff, was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupant of the vehicle was flown to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment.

GRANDVIEW MAN FACING MURDER CHARGE IN CARUTHERSVILLE INVESTIGATION

A grandview man has been arrested following an investigation into the murder of a Caruthersville man.

According to the Caruthersville Police Department, 20 year old Zyion Cooper was charged with 1st degree murder and armed criminal action, in regards to the August 16th death of Larry McIntyre Jr., of Caruthersville.

He was transported to the Jackson County Detention Facility following his arrest, and will be extradited to Pemiscot County Jail for his charges.

TWO ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON WEAPON AND DRUG DELIVERY CHARGES

Two were taken into custody in Stoddard County on weapon and drug delivery charges on Sunday.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 39 year old Robert Blackmon, of Perryville, and 27 year old Toby Blackmon, of Cape Girardeau, were booked on a warrant for unlawful use of a weapon and delivery of a controlled substance.

They were both transported to the Stoddard County Jail following their arrests, with Robert Blackmon holding a $25,000, and Toby Blackmon holding a $20,000 cash only bond.

THIRTEEN CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI TOTAL NOW OVER 72,000

Thirteen additional cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler County, while Missouri is now over 72,000 cases of the virus.

According to the Butler County Health Department, the confirmed cases have risen the County’s total to 330 cases. Of them, 269 have recovered, 48 are still in isolation, and 9 are currently hospitalized. The department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Thursday, there are a total of 72,850 cases of the virus in the state, and 1,508 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING RIPLEY COUNTY VEHICLE CRASH

A driver was injured in Ripley County on Thursday following a vehicle crash.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash took place on US 160, west of Doniphan, where a vehicle began sliding while traveling, which caused it to overturn.

The driver suffered minor injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff Hospital for treatment.

ROADWAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION DURING REPAIRS

A roadway in Dunklin County will be reduced while undergoing repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route 412, from Route Z to Route U, will be reduced while MODOT crews perform pavement repairs on the roadway.

The work is scheduled to begin on August 28th, and is expected to be completed by September 2nd.

AKERS CONFIRMED AS BUTLER COUNTY CORONER

A recount in Butler County has confirmed the County’s new coroner.

Officials report that a recount of the race between Jim Akers and Andy Moore took place on Wednesday, which confirmed that Akers beat out Moore for the position by 30 votes.

A recount for the position of Ripley County Sheriff will be held on August 27th, after Incumbent Mike Barton won over Richie Phillips by just one vote, with Barton holding 1,307 votes to Phillip’s 1,306.

INJURIES REPORTED IN STODDARD COUNTY IN VEHICLE CRASH

Injuries were reported after a vehicle crashed in Stoddard County on Tuesday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that a vehicle failed to negotiate a curve on County Road 284, north of AID, causing it to run off the left side of the roadway and strike a tree.

The driver was moderately injured following the crash, and was transported to a hospital in Dexter for treatment.

AUTHORITIES IN PARAGOULD DOUBLING DOWN FOR LABOR DAY 

Authorities in Paragould will be doubling their efforts for arresting drunk drivers for Labor Day.

According to the Paragould Police Department, the decision for stricter policies in the city was made in an effort to prevent impaired driving as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s campaign, which runs from August 21st through September 7th.

The 2018 Labor Day weekend saw 439 fatalities nationwide, 43% of which involved drivers who had been drinking.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR ASSAULTING OFFICERS

A Poplar Bluff man was sentenced to time in jail for assaulting officers.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, 29 year old James Johnson was charged with felony assaulting law enforcement officers, as well as discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime.

These charges stem from an incident in July of 2018, where Johnson opened fire on officers that went into his apartment to arrest him on an outstanding arrest warrant. One of the officers was shot in the forearm, another in the chest, and one took a shot to their shield.

A 9mm and .380 pistol were recovered from his bedroom, and Johson admitted he had used the 9mm to shoot at the officers.

He was sentenced to 32 years in prison for these charges.

ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI TOTAL NOW OVER 71,000

More cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler County, while Missouri now has over 71,000 total cases.

According to the Butler County Health Department, nine additional cases were reported on Wednesday, raising the County’s total cases to 317. The patients have been isolated, and the department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Wednesday, the state has reported 71,680 cases of the virus, while 1,489 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

ROADWAY IN RIPLEY COUNTY TO CLOSE DURING MAINTENANCE

A roadway in Ripley County will be closed today for maintenance.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route T, south of Route 160, will be closed while MODOT crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway.

The work is set to begin at 8 am, and is expected to be completed by 1 pm.

POPLAR BLUFF R-1 SCHOOL DISTRICT PLACING FURTHER COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

The Poplar Bluff R-I School District has moved forward with their coronavirus protocols.

According to Poplar Bluff R-1 School Superintendent Dr. Scott Dill, due to the district having some associates currently in self isolation, a focus on contact tracing and testing has been put in place. This involves having the Butler County Health Department assist the school with investigations on identifying individuals who may have been exposed to the virus, and having said individuals tested for COVID-19.

Regardless of the result of the test, anyone who is tested for the virus will be asked to quarantine themselves for at least 14 days. The district is currently not requiring masks on the premises, but is heavily encouraging them.

WOMAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON ASSAULT AND WEAPON CHARGES

An Advance woman was taken into custody in Stoddard County on assault and weapon charges on Wednesday.

Officials with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 51 year old Mary Capps was booked on 3rd degree Domestic Assault, and unlawful use of a weapon.

She was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following her arrest, on a $10,000 cash only bond.

TWO INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN RIPLEY COUNTY

Two injuries were reported from a vehicle crash in Ripley County on Wednesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Missouri 142, west of Doniphan, where a vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and lost control, causing it to run off the left side of the roadway and overturn.

The driver of the vehicle was moderately injured, and an occupant suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. They were both transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

NEW CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY

Additional cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler County on Tuesday.

According to the Butler County Health Department, five new cases were reported, raising the County’s total to 308 cases. The patients have been self quarantined, and the department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Tuesday, there are a total of 70,700 cases of the virus in the state, and 1,477 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

ARREST MADE IN RIPLEY COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION

An area man was taken into custody in Ripley County on methamphetamine possession.

Officials with the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 29 year old Joshua Kramer, of Naylor, was arrested in felony possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine early Tuesday morning.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Ripley County Jail.

TWO INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN RIPLEY COUNTY

Two injuries were reported in Ripley County on Tuesday following a vehicle crash.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash took place on Highway P, east of Gatewood, where a vehicle travelled off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, and travelled off the left side of the roadway. This caused the vehicle to overturn.

The driver was moderately injured and flown to a Cape Girardeau hospital, while an occupant of the car suffered minor injuries, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

TWO TEXAS MEN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN BUTLER COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES

Two men from Texas were arrested in Butler County on Tuesday on drug related charges.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 32 year old Erica Taylor, of Missouri City, and 44 year old Joshua Emmerson, of Houston, were both charged with felony distribution of a controlled substance - ecstasy, possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

They were both transported to the Butler County Jail following their arrests.

THEFT INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY IN STODDARD COUNTY

A theft investigation is currently underway in Stoddard County.

According to the Dexter Police Department, video surveillance caught a red late 90s model Chevrolet leaving a home toting a stolen 2009 Cruise camper trailer early Tuesday morning.

MALDEN MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY FOLLOWING SHOOTING

A Malden man was arrested in Dunklin County on weapon and assault charges.

According to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department, 66 year old Perry Handy was charged with two counts of 1st degree assault, three counts of armed criminal action, 1st degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon. He was also charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

These charges stem from an investigation made by the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department, after a shooting was reported in the 40000 block of State Highway 25, where two people had been shot.

Handy was found inside a shed at the home alongside two children, where he fired a shotgun at an officer when asked to leave the structure.

He was later taken into custody at the Dunklin County Jail with no bond. The investigation into the shooting is currently ongoing.

INJURIES REPORTED IN VEHICLE COLLISION IN STODDARD COUNTY

Injuries were reported in Stoddard County after two vehicles collided on Monday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that a vehicle was turning right on US 60, west of Dudley, where it was struck in the rear by another oncoming car. The vehicle then travelled through the median, and overturned.

The driver was moderately injured in the collision, and was transported to a hospital in Cape Girardeau for treatment.

SMALL EARTHQUAKE REPORTED IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

An earthquake was reported in a city in Pemiscot County on Monday.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake was reported early Monday morning, and was recorded about 4 miles north of Steele. It had a depth of around 5 miles.

The earthquake registered at a magnitude of 2.6.

DRIVERS KILLED IN BUTLER AND NEW MADRID COUNTY VEHICLE INCIDENTS

Drivers were killed following vehicle collisions in Butler and New Madrid County on Sunday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that in Butler County, a vehicle pulled into the path of and struck another oncoming vehicle on US 60, east of Poplar Bluff. The traveling car then travelled off the left side of the roadway and overturned. The driver, 60 year old William Chambers, of Poplar Bluff, was pronounced dead at the scene.

In New Madrid County, a crash took place on US 60, east of US 61, where a vehicle struck the rear of another traveling car. The driver of the first vehicle, 58 year old Karen Steele, of Naylor, was pronounced at the scene.

CARUTHERSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATING HOMICIDE

Officials with the Caruthersville Police Department are currently investigating a homicide.

Few details are available at this time, however, the department is currently searching for a suspect after a report of a homicide was called in at a home on Grand Avenue on Sunday morning.

THREE ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES

Three people were taken into custody in Butler County over the weekend on drug possession charges.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, on Friday, 49 year old Penny Eltannir and 46 year old Joseph Powell, both of Poplar Bluff, were charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were also charged with endangering the welfare of a child, and possession of marijuana.

On Saturday, 41 year old Leeanda Loveless, of Wappapello, was arrested on felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

They were all transported to the Butler County Jail following their arrests.

THREE DEATHS REPORTED FROM VEHICLE CRASHES IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

Three deaths were reported in Pemiscot County from vehicle crashes over the weekend.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, on Friday, a vehicle failed to yield at a railroad crossing at Gettings Lane in Hayti, and was struck by an oncoming train. The car overturned, and was flung into a ditch from the collision. The driver, 52 year old Titusan Townsend, of Columbia, and an occupant, 51 year old Ricky Tillman, of Kennett, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

On Sunday, a crash occurred on Highway O, east of Interstate 55, where a vehicle went off the left side of the roadway and struck an embankment, causing it to overturn. The driver, 42 year old Corey Vandyke – who was not wearing a safety device at the time of the crash – was pronounced at the scene.

ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED ACROSS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

More cases of the coronavirus have been reported in Southeast Missouri.

Butler County has seen an advisory increase from green to yellow after its 300th case of the virus was reported after 18 patients tested positive for the disease. The Butler County Health Department is requiring all visitors to wear a mask or face covering at all times when inside the building, and the Poplar Bluff Amtrak station has been temporarily closed to visitors.

Ripley County saw its 73rd patient after 23 new cases were reported, 16 of which are from the Colonial Home assisted living center in Doniphan. All of the residents who tested positive have been placed into quarantine.

The CDC will be working with the Counties health departments to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Sunday, there are a total of 67,475 cases of the virus in the state, and 1,367 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

PEMISCOT COUNTY MAN SENTENCED ON METHAMPHETAMINE CONSPIRACY

A Pemiscot County man was sentenced to time in incarceration due to his involvement in a drug distribution conspiracy.

According to officials with the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department, 36 year old Korey Johnson, of Hayti, was sentenced to 17 years on conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, after an investigation by multiple County Police Departments discovered that he oversaw individuals conspiring to deliver methamphetamine from the southwest region of the United States to the Eastern District of Missouri.

Johnson admitted to distributing over 20 pounds of meth over a year's time, and authorities seized over $130,000 worth of drug proceedings in the investigation.

Authorities from the DEA, Department of Homeland Security, Missouri State Highway Patrol, SEMO Drug Task Force, and Police with Caruthersville and Hayti, as well as Pemiscot, Dunklin and New Madrid Counties assisted with the investigation.

ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI TOTAL NOW OVER 63,000

According to the Butler County Health Department, four new cases of the disease were reported on Thursday, raising the County’s total to 282. The CDC will be working with the department to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

DRIVER INJURED IN VEHICLE COLLISION IN CARTER COUNTY

A driver was moderately injured in a vehicle collision in Carter County on Wednesday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the collision took place on Highway 60, at County Road 256 in Ellsinore, where a vehicle crashed into another oncoming car on the side.

The driver transported himself to a hospital following the crash.

MILD EARTHQUAKE REPORTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

An earthquake was reported in New Madrid county on Wednesday.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake struck just over a mile south of Hardwell, around 8 pm.

The quake was recorded with a magnitude of 2.2.

TWO ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG TRAFFICKING CHARGE

Two suspects were taken into custody in New Madrid County on a drug trafficking charge.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 30 year old David Fuller, of Hazel Crest Illinois, and 30 year old Kala Jackson, of Vernon Texas, were both arrested on a felony charge on 1st degree trafficking – codeine.

They were both transported to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department following their arrests.

INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING DUNKLIN COUNTY VEHICLE COLLISION

Injuries were reported following a collision in Dunklin County on Thursday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred when a vehicle pulled into the path of another oncoming car on US 412, at Missouri 164.

The driver of the oncoming vehicle suffered minor injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Paragould hospital for treatment.

ROADWAY IN DUNKLIN AND STODDARD COUNTIES SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION DURING REPAIRS

A roadway stretching through Dunklin and Stoddard Counties will be reduced while undergoing repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route 153, from Route 60 in Stoddard County to Route 25 in Dunklin County, will be reduced with a 10 foot width restriction while contractor crews perform overlay on the roadway.

The work is scheduled to begin on Monday, and is expected to be completed by November 1st.

POPLAR BLUFF REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER REPORTS INCREASING NUMBER OF COVID-19 PATIENTS

Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center has reported a rise in patients being treated for the coronavirus.

According to Chief Compliance Officer Johnna Craft, the hospital is currently treating 11 patients for the virus. Of them, four are currently on ventilators.

The hospital had previously had zero hospitalizations related to COVID-19, and the sudden rise in coronavirus patients was made during a briefing on Wednesday.

DEXTER MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES

A Dexter man was taken into custody in Stoddard County for drug related charges.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 30 year old Kendrick Gribble was booked on both possession and delivery of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid.

POPLAR BLUFF DRIVER INJURED IN BUTLER COUNTY VEHICLE CRASH

A local driver was moderately injured in a vehicle crash in Butler County on Wednesday.

According to officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash took place on County Road 523, north of County Road 5231, where a vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned.

Following the incident, the driver was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

NEW CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER AND STODDARD COUNTY

Additional cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler and Stoddard County.

The Butler County Health Department reported eight new cases on Wednesday, bringing the County’s total to 278 cases. Of them, 224 have recovered, 3 are hospitalized, and 47 are still in self isolation.

In Stoddard County, there have been five new cases reported, which has brought the County’s total to 238. Of these cases, 206 have recovered, and 23 are currently active. The CDC will be working with both County’s health departments to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Wednesday, there are a total of 62,530 cases of the virus in the state, and 1,323 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

LOCAL MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN BUTLER COUNTY ON DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES

A Poplar Bluff man was arrested in Butler County on Wednesday on drug and weapon charges.

Officials with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 30 year old Austin Dunivan was charged with firearm possession by a felon, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

He was also charged with two felony possession of a controlled substance charges – acid and marijuana.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Butler County Jail.

INJURIES REPORTED IN DUNKLIN COUNTY VEHICLE COLLISION

Injuries were reported following a vehicle collision in Dunklin County on Wednesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle struck another oncoming car while crossing the centerline of Missouri 25, west of Holcomb.

The driver of the struck vehicle suffered moderate injuries, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

EARTHQUAKE REPORTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

An earthquake was recorded early Wednesday morning in New Madrid County.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake struck around 7 AM, about 3 miles north of Portageville, close to Highway 162 along the Little River.

The quake registered with a magnitude of 2.1, and had a depth of around 3 miles.

COVID-19 CASES IN MISSOURI CONTINUE TO INCREASE

The number of coronavirus cases in the state have continued to rise.

According to the Butler County Health Department, another case was reported on Tuesday, bringing the County’s total to 270. The patient has been put in self-isolation, and the department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patient was active and healthy.

In Missouri, as of Tuesday, there are a total of 60,935 cases across Missouri, and 1,312 deaths in the state have been directly linked to the disease.

TWO INJURED IN VEHICLE COLLISION IN STODDARD COUNTY

Two injuries were reported in Stoddard County after two vehicles collided on Monday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the incident occurred when a vehicle struck the rear of another car on Highway 60, east of Route N, which forced the struck vehicle off the right side of the roadway.

The driver and an occupant of the struck vehicle both received minor injuries from the collision, and were transported to a Sikeston hospital for treatment.

POTENTIAL POLICE IMPERSONATOR REPORTED IN PARAGOULD

There have been reports of a potential police impersonator in Paragould.

According to the Paragould Police Department, a motorist reported to authorities that he was stopped by an apparent police officer on Highway 49 on Monday, and noted multiple details which caused him to doubt that the officer was officially with law enforcement.

The suspect in question is described to be a 6’2 white male, who is approximately 180 lbs with a goatee. At the scene of the incident, he was driving a gray 2012 or 2013 Dodge Charger, with blue lights and an Arkansas License plate.

Officials with the Paragould Police Department are urging drivers to go to a well populated area or call 911 if you suspect you are being pulled over by a police impersonator.

HEAVY RAINFALL AND FLASH FLOODING EXPECTED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

Flash flooding is expected for multiple areas in Southeast Missouri today.

According to a report from the National Weather Service in Paducah: Butler, Wayne, Carter, Ripley, Stoddard, and New Madrid Counties will see thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall and frequent lightning throughout today and tonight, which is expected to cause flash flooding. The highest chances for storms will be in the afternoon.

There will also be a chance of thunderstorms for the remainder of the week. The chances of thunderstorms will be highest around the afternoon.

POPLAR BLUFF HISTORIC TRAIN DEPOT HOSTING DINNER AND AUCTION

The Poplar Bluff Historic Train Depot will be hosting a dinner and auction later in the month.

The event is being held as a fundraiser for restoration to the Depot, and will feature both a silent and live auction, live entertainment, and a fried fish dinner.

The auction will be held from 6 to 11:30 PM on August 28th at the Depot on 400 South Main Street, and tickets are being sold on the Depots Facebook page at $65 per person.

ROADWAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY SET TO CLOSED DURING BRIDGE WORK

A roadway in Pemiscot County will be closed while bridge work is underway.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route A, between County Road 228 and 286, will be closed while contractor crews replace the bridge over a drainage ditch near Bragg City.

The work is set to begin on September 1st, and is expected to be completed by December 1st.

WAYNE COUNTY COURTHOUSE RETURNING TO PRECAUTIONS DUE TO COVID-19 CASES

The Wayne County Courthouse has returned to a more precautious take in operations due to the increase of coronavirus cases in the state.

According to officials with the Courthouse, the building will be returning to Phase 2 of their three phase plan of operation, which involves halting all jury trials for the remainder of the month, and limiting courtroom capacity to 25 individuals.

The decision was made after 50 cases were reported in the County in the past two weeks, with 31 cases being reported in the last week. The County’s Health Department reported that the County has seen a 67% increase in coronavirus cases over all.

CLARKTON MAN ALMOST DROWNS IN CURRENT RIVER IN RIPLEY COUNTY

A Clarkton man nearly drowned in the Current River in Ripley County on Sunday.

Officials in Ripley County tell KWOC News that the incident happened when the man attempted to swim across the river near Float Camp, where he started bobbing and submerged. He was pulled from the waters by an individual on a jet ski.

The man was moderately injured from the incident, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

ROADWAY IN WAYNE COUNTY SCHEDULED TO CLOSE DURING REPAIRS

A roadway in Wayne County will be closed while undergoing repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, two sections of Route N, located 2 miles and 4 miles from Route 34 near Patterson, will be closed while MODOT crews replace a few culverts underneath the roadway.

The work is set to take place today from 8 am to 1 pm.

Four more cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler County on Monday.

According to the Butler County Health Department, the four new cases have brought the County’s total to 269 cases. Of them, 224 have recovered, 3 are hospitalized, and 38 are currently in self-isolation. The department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Monday, there are a total of 59,954 cases of the virus in the state, and 1,307 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

FOUR TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN RANDOLPH COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES

Four were arrested in Randolph County Arkansas, on Friday on drug possession charges after drugs and firearms were discovered during traffic stops.

According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, 52 year old David Liebhaber, of Biggers, 50 year old Jonathan Fears and 41 year old Jeremy Blackwell, of Pocahontas, as well as 38 year old Michael Jones, of Imboden, were taken into custody on possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Liebhaber and Fears were also charged with possession of a controlled substance, while Jones was additionally charged with suspicion of 2nd degree battery and fleeing.

They were all transported to the Randolph County Jail following their arrests. Liebhaber, Fears, and Blackwell are being held on a $50,000 cash or surety bond, while Jones holds a bond set at $100,000 cash only.

LOCAL DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY

A Poplar Bluff driver suffered moderate injuries after his vehicle crashed in Butler County on Sunday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash took place on Missouri 53, south of Poplar Bluff, where a vehicle lost control and overturned while traveling down the roadway.

The elderly driver was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment following the crash.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE SEARCHING FOR SUSPECTS IN THEFT INVESTIGATION

The Poplar Bluff Police Department is currently searching for two suspects in a theft investigation.

According to the Department, two individuals are currently wanted on felony charges on stealing, fleeing, and assault on a law enforcement officer. The suspects fled on foot after being pursued north of Poplar Bluff on Highway 67. Pictures of the subjects are available on the Poplar Bluff Police Department’s Facebook page.

DOUBLE HOMICIDE REPORTED IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

Authorities in Pemiscot County are investigating a double homicide case.

According to officials with the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department, 37 year old Frederick Payne, and 39 year old James McIntyre, were both found dead underneath the carport at a home in Hayti. Authorities with the Missouri State Highway Patrol Drug and Crime Investigation are helping the Sheriff’s Department, and the Hayti Police Department, with the search.

A suspect has not yet been found, and no names are being released at this time. We will continue to follow this story as the investigation proceeds.

DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED IN CARTER COUNTY VEHICLE CRASH

A driver was seriously injured in Carter County after a vehicle crash on Friday.

According to officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident took place on US 60, east of Ellsinore, where a driver fell asleep while driving and ran off the roadway. The vehicle went airborne, and struck two trees.

Following the crash, the driver was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

Missouri has continued to see an increase in coronavirus cases over the weekend, while Butler County reported its fourth death from the virus.

According to the Butler County Health Department, as of Sunday, the County now stands at 265 total cases. The Department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious. The name of the deceased will not be released at this time.

In Missouri, as of Sunday, there are a total of 58,927 cases of the virus in the state, and 1,307 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN KENNETT ON ROBBERY AND ASSAULT

A man was arrested in Kennett following an investigation into a shots fired report on Saturday.

Officials with the Kennett Police Department tell KWOC News that authorities responded to a call of shots fired on the 400 block of West Fifth Street, which led to the arrest of 27 year old Dwayne Woods Jr, of Hayti. He was taken into custody on 1st degree robbery, 1st degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action.

He was also wanted for questioning for multiple prior shooting reports before his arrest.

THREE INJURED IN VEHICLE COLLISION IN STODDARD COUNTY

Three were injured in a vehicle collision in Stoddard County on Friday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling on Missouri 114, at Missouri 153, where it pulled into the path of another oncoming vehicle.

The driver and an occupant of the first vehicle suffered minor injuries, and were transported to a Sikeston hospital. An occupant of the second vehicle was moderately injured, and was transported to a hospital in Cape Girardeau for treatment.

25 NEW CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI TOTAL CONTINUES TO RISE

25 additional cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler County on Thursday, while the Missouri total has continued to increase.

According to the Butler County Health Department, there are now a total of 253 cases of the virus in the County. Of them, 215 have recovered, 4 are hospitalized, and 31 are still in self isolation. The department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Thursday, there are a total of 56,383 cases of the virus in the state, while 1,280 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES

A Bernie man was taken into custody in Stoddard County on Thursday on drug related charges.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 55 year old Gregory Pippins was booked on possession of a controlled substance – except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid, as well as unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Stoddard County Jail, on a $7,500 cash only bond.

GREENVILLE MAN CONVICTED OF 2017 MURDER CASE

A Greenville man was convicted by a Wayne County jury on Wednesday for a 2017 murder case.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 39 year old Joshua Oldham was found guilty of a felony charge on 1st degree murder, as well as armed criminal action.

These charges stem from an investigation made on the 2017 shooting death of 38 year old Marshall Helm, who was found with three gunshot wounds – one on his arm, cheek, and side.

Witness reports state that an altercation took place between Helm and Oldham, which led to Oldham retrieving a firearm from his vehicle and shooting Helm through the car’s window. Oldham was later taken into custody in Ellsinore, before he admitted to shooting Helm.

INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

Injuries were reported following a vehicle crash in Pemiscot County on Thursday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the incident took place on Highway 61, north of Holland, where a vehicle struck the rear of another stationary car on the roadway.

A 20 year old occupant, and an infant occupant, both suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash, and were both transported to a Blytheville hospital for treatment.

TWO TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES

Two were arrested in New Madrid County on Thursday on drug and weapon charges.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 28 year old Courtney Heath, of Houston Texas, and 28 year old Admiral Salaam, of Chicago Illinois, were both taken into custody on felony charges on possession of a controlled substance – synthetic cannabinoid, and unlawful use of a weapon.

They were also charged on receiving stolen property, and they were both transported to the New Madrid County Jail following their arrests.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route 142, at the intersection of Washington Avenue in Doniphan, will be closed while MODOT crews perform pavement repairs.

SHOOTING INVESTIGATION IN PROGRESS IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

A shooting investigation is currently ongoing by the Kennett Police Department.

According to the Department, authorities responded to a call on Tuesday evening about a woman who was shot on the 700 block of Vandeventer Street. There, a 50 year old woman was found wounded in her home.

As of now, an unnamed 67 year old man was taken into custody at the house, and is pending charges.

WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES

A woman was arrested in Stoddard County on multiple drug charges.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 33 year old Lauren Shumate, of Cape Girardeau, was booked on a charge on possession of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid, possession of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following her arrest, on no bond.

ROADWAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION DURING REPAIRS

A roadway in Dunklin County will be reduced while undergoing repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route 412, from Route W to Country Club Drive in Kennett, will be reduced with a 12-foot width restriction while contractor crews perform overlay on the roadway.

The work is scheduled to start on August 31st, and is expected to be completed by November 1st.

More cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler and Carter Counties.

According to the Counties’ Health Departments, Butler County now stands at 228 cases. Of them, 191 have recovered, three are hospitalized, and 31 are still in isolation. Meanwhile, Carter County saw its 20th case of the virus. The departments will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

MILD EARTHQUAKE RECORDED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

A small earthquake was reported in New Madrid County on Tuesday.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake was recorded late Tuesday night, around 2 miles north of Marston, and had a depth of nearly 8 miles.

The earthquake registered at a magnitude of 2.5.

RESULTS ANNOUNCED FOR BUTLER COUNTY PRIMARY ELECTION

The results are in from the Missouri Primary Elections for several positions in Butler County.

Voting for the Republican Nomination for Butler County Eastern District Commissioner saw Don ‘Butch’ Anderson win the nomination with 60 percent of the votes cast.

For the Republican nomination for Butler County Public Administrator, Jeff Darnell won with 31 percent of votes cast. He was followed by Charyl Baker with 26 percent, Sharron Payne with 26 percent, and Margie Shipman with 17 percent.

One of the closest races for the night was for the Republication nomination for Butler County Coroner, where Jim Akers beat Andy Moore for the position by just 30 votes out of the over seven thousand votes cast.

A Law Enforcement Sales Tax for Butler County was also voted on during the races, which passed with over 68% of votes in favor for the tax.

MISSOURI VOTERS DECIDE ON EXPANSION OF MEDICAID, PARSON AND GALLOWAY FIGHTING FOR GOVERNOR SEAT

Voters across Missouri have voted to expand Medicaid health care coverage to lower income households during Tuesday’s Missouri Primary.

According to the Missouri Secretary of State’s office, over 53 percent of voters chose to expand the coverage for Medicaid yesterday.

The change in coverage, known as Amendment 2, will expand eligibility for Medicaid to include adults with incomes that are 138 percent of the federal poverty level.

Current Republican Governor Mike Parson, who received 75 percent of Republican votes, will be challenged for his seat in November by State Auditor Nicole Galloway, who won with over 85 percent of votes in the Democratic primary election.33 

 In the race for Lieutenant Governor, Democratic Nominee Alissia Canady, who won with 74 percent of the vote, will be challenging current Lt. Governor Mike Kehoe, who received 59 percent of votes.

The seat of Attorney General was won by Democratic Nominee Rich Finneran, who won with 55 percent of votes. He was followed by Democrat Elad Gross, who received 45 percent of votes.

RESULTS ANNOUNCED FOR MISSOURI SENATE DISTRICTS

Missouri voters have cast their votes for seats on the Missouri State Senate.

In District 3, Republican House of Representatives member Elaine Gannon won with 42 percent of votes received. She fought for the seat alongside Republicans Joshua Barrett, who received 36 percent of votes, and Kent Scism, who received 21 percent.

Republican Nominee Jason Bean won for State Senate in District 25, receiving 46 percent of votes cast. He was followed by Jeff Shawan with 21 percent, Eddy Justice with 18 percent, and Stephen Cookson with 15 percent.

For District 27, the Republican Primary was won by Holly Rehder, who beat out Kathy Swan by 141 votes. She will face Democratic Nominee Donnie Owens in November.

State Senate District 33 was won by Republican House of Representatives member Karla Eslinger, who beat Republican Robert Ross by 142 votes. She was also followed by Republican Van Kelly, who received 26 percent of votes.

TWO JUVENILES INJURED IN BUTLER COUNTY VEHICLE CRASH

Two juvenile occupants suffered moderate injuries from a vehicle crash in Butler County on Monday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident happened on County Road 569, west of Rombauer, where two vehicles side-swiped each other while negotiating a curve.

Following the crash, the two young occupants were transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

Polls opened this morning at 6 am for the Missouri Primary Elections.  

Multiple local and state nominations are up for grabs, including Governor and one of Missouri’s States Senate seats on the state side, along with numerous races in Butler County. State officials estimate that 31 percent of Missouri’s registered voters will participate in today’s primary elections. 

You can find your voting location online at www.GoVoteMissouri.com. Polls will close at 7 pm, and anyone in line to vote at that time will still get to cast a ballot. Anyone who arrives after polling places close will not be allowed to vote.

ADDITIONAL POLICE OFFICERS TO BE OUT CONTROLLING TRAFFIC AROUND POLLING PLACES

With Election Day being today, voters in Poplar Bluff may notice an increase of police officers near polling places. 

Chief Danny Whiteley with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News one reason for the presence of extra officers is traffic concerns.

“With the election taking place today we were anticipating probably a heavier turnout than usual. It’s kind of what I’m hearing and with that being said, we’re going to have some extra officers on patrol all around the different precincts and just try to make sure the traffic flow is ease in and ease out, we certainly want everyone voting and don’t want to have to worry about traffic problems. TWO ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY IN MURDER INVESTIGATION

Two were taken into custody in New Madrid County following a homicide investigation on Monday.

Few details are available at this time. However, according to authorities with the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, officials received a call about a missing elderly woman, which led to her missing vehicle being found alongside two suspects.

Her body was later located in a field near Charleston, and the two suspects are currently being held at the New Madrid County Jail.

LOCAL RACES AT STAKE DURING ELECTION DAY

Voters in Southeast Missouri will be choosing who will serve them at multiple levels of government today. 

For the Missouri State Senate, in District 25, there are four on the ballot, Jeff Shawan, Jason Bean, Eddy Justice, and Steve Cookson. 

In District 153 of the Missouri House of Representatives, there are three candidates on the ballot, Larry Kimbrow, Jack (Skip) Johnson, and Darrell Atchison.  

Other competitive local races include the race for Butler County Commissioner for the Eastern District between Don “Butch” Anderson and Ross DeGaris. For Public Administrator, incumbent Sharron Payne will be taking on Cheryl Baker, Margie Shipman, and Jeff Darnell. For Butler County Coroner, incumbent Andy Moore will take on Jim Akers. 

Voters in Poplar Bluff and Butler County will be voting on a County Law Enforcement Sales Tax. 

The County Law Enforcement Tax, if passed, would impose a countywide sales tax of one-quarter of one percent, for the purpose of providing law enforcement services for the county and funding to support current and future operations of the Sheriff’s Department and Jail. 

LOCAL DRIVER KILLED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN RIPLEY COUNTY

A Poplar Bluff driver was killed after a vehicle crash in Ripley County on Sunday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the incident took place on Highway 21, north of Route NN, where a vehicle lost control in a curve and ran off the roadway, striking an embankment and overturning. The driver was ejected as a result.

The driver, 30 year old Austin Evans, was pronounced dead at the scene.

BUTLER COUNTY REPORTS NEW SINGLE DAY HIGH FOR COVID-19 CASES; MISSOURI TOTAL OVER 52,000

Butler County confirms a new single day high for COVID-19 cases, while Missouri’s total has reached over 52,000. 

According to the Butler County Health Department, there were 14 new cases reported on Monday, which brought the County’s total to 224 cases. The Department is working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious. 

In Missouri, as of Sunday, there are a total of 52,886 cases of COVID-19 in the state, and 1,255 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

TWIN RIVERS SCHOOL DISTRICT TO HOST REGISTRATION EVENT NEXT TUESDAY AND THURSDAY

The Twin Rivers School District has announced that it will be holding a two day registration event for all students in Kindergarten through 12th grade next week. 

Royal Registration is scheduled for 1 to 7 pm Tuesday August 11th for students whose Primary Guardian’s Last Name begins with A-K and Thursday August 13th for students whose Primary Guardian’s Last Name begins with L-Z. Both will be held at Twin Rivers High School in Broseley. 

There will be booths set up to receive students schedules, discuss student health concerns with the nurses, ask transportation questions, and allow students to have their school picture taken.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN KILLED IN VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY

A Poplar Bluff man was killed in a vehicle crash in Butler County on Saturday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the incident took place on US 67, north of Poplar Bluff, where a man driving a scooter was struck by another oncoming vehicle while traveling the wrong way on the roadway. 

The driver of the scooter was ejected, who was then run over by the oncoming vehicle.

The driver, 53 year old Gary Arbuckle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI TOTAL OVER 51,000

More cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler County, while Missouri’s total has reached over 51,000.

According to the Butler County Health Department, there were 4 new cases reported on Saturday, which brought the County’s total to 210 cases. The Department is working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Sunday, there are a total of 51,840 cases of COVID-19 in the state, and 1,253 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG AND FIREARM CHARGES

A man from New Madrid was arrested on drug and firearm charges on Sunday.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 28 year old Aron Mccormick was taken into custody on felony charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, as well as possession cocaine, and more than 30 grams of marijuana.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the New Madrid County Jail.

MURDER SUSPECT TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

A murder suspect was arrested in Kennett on Saturday following an investigation by authorities.

According to the Kennett Police Department, 39 year old Eric Petro, of Kennett, was charged on 2nd degree murder, as well as armed criminal action, after authorities responded to a call Friday night about a shooting at Petro’s home.

A man was found lying on the driveway when officials arrived on the scene, and later died of his wounds in a Paragould hospital.

Witness reports state that a gunshot was heard from the house following a heated argument, where Petro was seen leaving the scene in a dark SUV. A bullet casing was found that matched the ammo inside of his home.

He was later taken into custody and booked at the Dunklin County Jail, with no bond.

TWO INJURED FOLLOWING MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY

Two people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Butler County on Saturday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Highway 160, south of Poplar Bluff, where three vehicles struck each other while the first car was slowing down on the roadway.

The driver and an occupant of the slowed vehicle received moderate injuries from the crash, and were both transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

ROADWAY SCHEDULED TO CLOSE IN WAYNE COUNTY FOR REPAIRS

A roadway in Wayne County will be closed while undergoing repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route CC, 1 mile from Route 49, will be closed while MODOT crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway.

The work is scheduled to take place today, from 8 am to 2 pm.

CLEARWATER R-1 ANNOUNCES POTENTIAL COVID-19 EXPOSURE

The Clearwater R-1 school district in Wayne County has announced a possible exposure to the coronavirus.

According to the district, one of the students, who was attending summer classes without being symptomatic of the disease, tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Summer school for the District will be canceled on Saturday, and will undergo an extensive sanitization of the building.

THREE RIVERS COLLEGE ALTERS FALL SCHOOL PLAN FOR RETURNING STUDENTS

Three Rivers College has joined many other schools in an altered plan for returning students.

The change in the Fall semester classes include removing breaks for Labor day and Fall break, and making the 24th of November the final day of the semester. Face coverings will also be required to be worn by students, faculty, staff, and visitors while inside all TRC facilities and buildings.

There will also be extended cleaning ethics put in place, guidelines for social distancing, and precautions for those who have been tested for the coronavirus, or have otherwise been put under quarantine.

DRIVER INJURED AFTER CAR COMBUSTS IN BUTLER COUNTY VEHICLE CRASH

A driver was injured in a Butler County vehicle crash early Thursday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling on US 60, west of Dexter, where it ran off the roadway and struck an embankment. The vehicle overturned from the crash, then caught on fire.

The driver suffered moderate injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

BUTLER COUNTY REPORTS 10 NEW CASES OF COVID-19; MISSOURI TOTAL NOW OVER 48,000

Butler County announced that 10 new cases of the coronavirus were reported, while Missouri has seen over 2,000 new cases since yesterday.

According to the Butler County Health Department, the ten new cases have risen the County’s total to 206. Of them, 165 have recovered, and 38 are still in self-isolation. The Department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Thursday, there are a total of 48,834 cases of the coronavirus in the state, while 1,233 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING DUNKLIN COUNTY VEHICLE COLLISION

Injuries were reported after a vehicle collision in Dunklin County on Thursday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the incident took place on Highway 53, at the northern city limits of Campbell, where a vehicle struck another traveling car on the roadway.

The driver had minor injuries as a result of the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

ROADWAY IN WAYNE COUNTY SCHEDULED TO CLOSE DURING MAINTENANCE

A roadway in Wayne County will be closed while undergoing maintenance.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route DD, 1 mile off from Route 34, will be closed while MODOT crews replace a few culverts underneath the roadway.

The work is scheduled to take place on August 4th, from 8 am to 2 pm.

FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

A flash flood watch has been put in effect for Southeast Missouri until tomorrow.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a flash flood watch will be in effect in Butler, Carter, New Madrid, Ripley, Stoddard, and Wayne Counties, until midnight on Friday.

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected throughout today into the evening, and may produce up to 2 and a half inches of rain in multiple areas. Some locations experiencing heavy rainfall may see anywhere from 3 to 5 inches of rain.

ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER AND CARTER COUNTIES

New cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler and Carter Counties.

According to the Counties’ Health Departments, Butler County saw 5 new cases of the virus, raising the County’s total to 196. Of them, 154 have recovered, one is hospitalized, and 38 are still in self-isolation. Meanwhile, Carter County reported its thirteenth case of COVID-19.

The new patients are being self-isolated, and the departments will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.

In Missouri, as of Wednesday, there are a total of 46,750 cases of the coronavirus in the state, and 1,220 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

DRIVER INJURED IN VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY

A driver was injured in a vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Wednesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash took place on Missouri 51, south of Puxico, where a vehicle crossed the centerline of the roadway and struck another oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the crossing vehicle suffered minor injuries, and was transported to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment.

ST. FRANCIS MEDICAL CENTER CHANGES VISITOR GUIDELINE

The Saint Francis Medical Center recently changed its guidelines on patient visitors.

The changes were made yesterday, and state that one visitor will be allowed per patient. Visitors will not be permitted for adults in ICU, and no visitors are allowed at the center’s care unit for COVID patients.

Visitors for patients must provide and wear their own masks when visiting, and must be 18 years old or older. All patients and visitors will be screened when entering the Center, and anyone with symptoms of the coronavirus will not be allowed to enter.

MAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION

A Union man was taken into custody in Wayne County on Wednesday on drug related charges.

Officials with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 28 year old Christopher Logan was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. He also has a felony charge of tampering with a motor vehicle.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Wayne County Jail.

MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON BURGLARY CHARGES

A Gipsy man was arrested in Stoddard County on Wednesday on burglary charges.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 27 year old James Stotts was booked on two 2nd degree burglary charges, and two counts of receiving stolen property.

He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, on a $35,000 cash only bond.

MISSOURI SUPREME COURT PASSES ORDER MANDATING FACE MASKS AT ALL COURTS

An order has been passed by the Missouri Supreme Court, which will mandate that all courts require face masks.

The order was announced last week, and states that all participants in Missouri court proceedings and public court areas will be required to wear a face mask or covering. It also states that courthouses may be placed under extended safety precautions if an employee tests positive for the coronavirus.

These changes will go into effect on Saturday, and will continue until otherwise stated.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT SEARCHING FOR SUSPECT

The Poplar Bluff Police Department is searching for a suspect in a local theft.

MISSISSIPPI MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN NEW MADRID ON MULTIPLE CHARGES

A man from Jackson, Mississippi was arrested in New Madrid County on Tuesday on multiple charges.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 24 year old Ervin Potts was charged on a Hinds County Warrant on possession of a stolen firearm, as well as possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the New Madrid County Jail.

NEELYVILLE RELEASES BACK TO SCHOOL PLAN FOR RETURNING STUDENTS

The Neelyville R-IV school district has joined other districts in a back to school plan for the upcoming school year.

The plan includes three potential options for returning students, including at home classes in a remote learning program, a blended learning plan, and in-class schooling with extensive health precautions.

There will also be extra cleaning and safety protocols throughout the district, including a focus on proper sanitization of the district's lunch tables, buses, and playground equipment.

PARAGOULD MAN ARRESTED FOR MULTIPLE RAPE CHARGES

A man from Paragould was taken into custody on multiple rape charges.

According to the Paragould Police Department, 45 year old Shanny Grady was arrested on five felony charges on rape, after authorities received information from one of his victims about the crimes, which is suspected to take place between March and June 8th.

Following his arrest, Grady was transported to the Greene County Jail.

BUTLER COUNTY CANDIDATE FORUM SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT IN POPLAR BLUFF

Many area candidates who will be competing in the upcoming primary election will be speaking tonight in Poplar Bluff.

The 2020 Butler County Candidate Forum hosted by Today’s Talk KWOC, is scheduled at the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce. 15 candidates are running for five positions on the ballot in Butler County. Each candidate will be allowed five minutes to introduce themselves, and tell why they think they are the best person for that position.

The event is by invitation only. KWOC will also be broadcasting the event beginning at 6 pm over the radio at 93.3 FM and 930 AM as well as on the KWOC Facebook page. Live coverage for this event is presented by Barker’s Towing.

The Missouri Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, August 4th.

WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGE

A Broseley woman was arrested in Stoddard County on Monday on a drug possession charge.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 43 year old Shannon Hathaway was booked on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

Following her arrest, she was transported to the Stoddard County Jail on a $3,500 cash or surety bond.

WILLIAMSVILLE MAN ARRESTED ON ACCUSATION OF CREATING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

A Williamsville man was taken into custody on accusations of creating child pornography, as well as a statutory sodomy charge.

According to officials with he Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 58 year old Jeffrey Downing was charged with 2nd degree statutory sodomy, and a felony charge on sexual exploitation of a minor.

These charges stem from an investigation made by the Department after Downing was accused of knowingly creating child pornography in January of 2017. Three thumb drives given to the Department held video and photographs of a then 14 year old female, all dated in 2017.

Downing also admitted that he had sexual contact with the child. He is currently being held at the Butler County Jail, with no bond.

LOCAL DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED IN VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY

A Poplar Bluff driver was seriously injured in a vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Sunday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the incident took place on US 60, north of Fisk, where a vehicle went around a work zone and struck an unoccupied parked vehicle.

Following the crash, the driver was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

ROADWAY IN STODDARD COUNTY SCHEDULED TO CLOSE DURING BRIDGE WORK

A roadway in Stoddard County will be closed while bridge work is underway.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route Z, between County Road 738 and 741, will be closed while contractor crews replace a bridge over a drainage ditch on the roadway.

The work is scheduled to begin on August 3rd, and is expected to be completed on September 16th.
