OVER 80 CASES OF HEPATITIS A REPORTED BY BUTLER COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Health officials are continuing to see an increase in reported Hepatitis A cases in Butler County.

According to the Butler County Health Department, as of June 8th, 86 cases of Hepatitis A have been reported with 57 percent of the cases requiring hospitalization.

Officials say that the majority of cases have been in people who use drugs and/or their close personal contacts.

Anyone who has been potentially exposed to an individual, experiencing Hepatitis A signs or symptoms is asked to call or visit the Butler County Health Department.

CITIZENS IN DONIPHAN WARNED TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR COUNTERFEIT MONEY

Residents in Doniphan are being warned to stay on the lookout for counterfeit money.

According to the Doniphan Police Department, there have been numerous reports of phony $20 bills being circulated in the city, more specifically at weekend yard sales.

All citizens should be aware of these bills and need to inspect any bills they accept for payment.

Should an attempt be made to pay you with one of these bills, do not accept it and make a report to your local authorities.

CHILDREN’S SUMMER READING PROGRAM CONTINUES AT POPLAR BLUFF MUNICIPAL LIBRARY

The 2018 Children’s Summer Reading Program at the Poplar Bluff Municipal Library is now underway.

This summer, kids can earn grand prize entries by reading and doing good deeds for their families, neighbors, friends, and the community. There will be multiple grand prizes, including Kindle Fire Tablets and bicycles.

The free program is open to children and young adults between the ages of 3 and 17 will run through August 4th.

MISSING CALIFORNIA WOMAN FOUND SAFE IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

A missing California woman has been found in Northeast Arkansas.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, 75 year old Sharon Childress had last been contacted Sunday morning around 9 am at the Black River Bridge on Highway 62 in Corning. An endangered person advisory was then issued.

According to Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller, Childress was found safe on Monday afternoon around 12:30 pm.

Further details were not released.

MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN DUNKLIN COUNTY WRECK

A Campbell man was injured yesterday following a single vehicle wreck in Dunklin County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 25 year old Michael Davis was driving on US Highway 62, 2 miles west of Campbell, when his vehicle ran off the left side of the road and struck a ditch.

Davis was seriously injured in the wreck and taken to an area hospital.

TWO ARRESTS MADE IN BUTLER COUNTY HOMICIDE

Two arrests have been made in a homicide investigation in Butler County.

Butler County Coroner Andy Moore tells KWOC News that the investigation began at Bricks Off-Road Park Saturday evening, after a 12 year old juvenile had been assaulted.

ANDY MOORE:

At approximately 10:30 PM on Saturday evening, the Butler County Corners office was notified of a homicide that took place at Bricks Off-Road Park.  We identified the deceased as Joe Girard 41 of Oak Ridge Missouri.  Preliminary findings indicate that he was struck multiple times and succumb to his injuries, due to blunt force trauma.  At this time I do not believe any weapons were used.  I have scheduled an autopsy for Monday morning at 9:30 with Dr. Russell Deidiker in Farmington Missouri.

KWOC News has learned the two suspects have identified as 39 year old Rickey Holt Jr., and 40 year old Brenda Holt, both of Bunker. Both suspects are facing charges of voluntary manslaughter. Rickey Holt was released from custody after posting bond and Brenda Holt remains in the Butler County Justice Center on a $100,000 cash or surety bond.

TWO SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK IN STODDARD COUNTY

Two people were injured in a single vehicle wreck over the weekend in Stoddard County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 35 year old Armon Elder, of Puxico, was driving on Route J in Stoddard County when his vehicle ran off the right side of the road and struck a culvert.

The passenger in the vehicle was seriously injured and air lifted to a Memphis hospital while Elder received moderate injuries and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

OVER 100 TICKETS ISSUED AS PART OF A CLICK IT OR TICKET MOBILIZATION IN DEXTER

The Dexter Police Department has announced that over 100 tickets were issued during a recent Click It or Ticket mobilization.

Chief Trevor Pulley tells us that during the enforcement effort, from May 21st through June 3rd, officers issued a total of 102 traffic tickets; including 64 seat belt tickets and one child restraint violation.

Pulley says that seat belts are your single best defense in a crash, and law enforcement will continue to encourage drivers to make a simple, smart choice to buckle up and arrive alive.

ALTON WOMAN FOUND DEAD FOLLOWING ATV WRECK

An Alton woman has been found dead following an ATV wreck. 

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 47 year old Rena Ford was driving an ATV that skidded off the right side of Oregon County Road 102 and struck a tree, ejecting her. 

Ford was pronounced dead at around 1:20 pm Thursday afternoon by Deputy Coroner Rob Clary. 

POCAHONTAS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGE

A Pocahontas man is facing 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to a child pornography charge. 

Prosecuting Attorney for the 2nd Judicial District of Arkansas, Scott Ellington, tells KWOC News that 36 year old Eric McQuay entered a plea of guilty Thursday to four counts of distributing, possessing, viewing matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child.

He received 10 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections on counts one and two and those counts run consecutively for a total of 20 years. He also received 10 years suspended imposition of sentences on counts three and four. 

Ellington says that the Jonesboro Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children Unit began an investigation of McQuay in January 2017 after it was discovered that McQuay shared child pornography via a Peer-to-Peer Network.

MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO A REPORTED ROBBERY IN KENNETT

A man has been taken into custody in connection to a reported robbery in Kennett. 

Officials with the Kennett Police Department tell KWOC News that shortly after 11 am Tuesday; officers were dispatched to an area residence where they learned that a subject had allegedly entered the residence armed with a knife, pushed the victim to the floor, and stole the victim’s wallet before fleeing on foot.

Officers later arrested 21 year old Cedric Burton, of Kennett, for 1st degree robbery. Burton was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center.

FOUR FACING METH CHARGE FOLLOWING ARRESTS IN WAYNE COUNTY

Four people are facing a meth charge following their arrest yesterday evening in Wayne County. 

According to authorities, 54 year old David Harrison, 36 year old Keith Forsythe, 31 year old Sara Daggs, and 31 year old Nicholas Daggs, all of Piedmont, were each taken into custody shortly before 7:30 pm Thursday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine. 

All four are also facing misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. 

KENNETT POLICE SEEKING ASSISTANCE IN IDENTIFYING SUSPECT IN RECENT THEFTS FROM VEHICLES

Authorities in Kennett are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in connection to recent thefts. 

According to the Kennett Police Department, officers have obtained photographs of a suspect in some of the recent thefts from vehicles within the city.

Anyone who has information on the identity of the subject is asked to contact the Kennett Police Department at 573-888-4622.

TWO INJURED IN STODDARD COUNTY WRECK

Two people were injured Thursday morning in a Stoddard County wreck. 

According to authorities, the wreck occurred at around 6:15 am when a vehicle failed to yield to another vehicle at Highway Y and N. Both vehicles then ran off the roadway. 

The driver of the second vehicle suffered serious injuries and was flown to an area hospital. A passenger in the 1st vehicle received minor injuries. 

TWO PATTERSON RESIDENTS ARRESTED ON METH CHARGES

Two Patterson residents were each taken into custody Thursday afternoon on a meth charge. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 35 year old Amanda Fobian and 29 year old Kyle Whitaker were each arrested shortly before 3:30 pm Thursday on charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Following their arrests, both Fobian and Whitaker were transported to the Wayne County Jail. 

FIRST ANNUAL BICYCLE TUNE UP TO BE HELD TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF

The First Annual Bicycle Tune Up event will be held today in Poplar Bluff. 

The event has been scheduled for 9 am to 3 pm at the Missouri National Guard FMS4 located at 1607 Cravens Road. 

There will be free bike tune ups for ages 15 and under and attendees will also have the chance to enter to win a bike.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN INJURED IN WRECK INVOLVING A DUMP TRUCK

A Poplar Bluff man was injured in a wreck involving a dump truck Wednesday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred shortly after 8:30 am Wednesday on US Highway 67, approximately three miles north of Poplar Bluff.

The dump truck was attempting a pass when it struck a car in the side, causing the car to drive off the side of the road and overturn.

The driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

GLENALLEN MAN ARRESTED IN MARBLE HILL ON CHILD MOLESTATION CHARGE

Authorities in Marble Hill say that an area man has been taken into custody on a child molestation charge.

Officials with the Marble Hill Police Department tell KWOC News that on Thursday, May 31st, officers investigated a report of child molestation that allegedly occurred in the Twin City Park bathroom.

Officials say that James Pattie, of Glenallen, has been arrested for child molestation in the 4th degree. His bond was set at $2,000, cash or surety.

RIPLEY COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR PIPE REPLACEMENT

Route T in Ripley County will be closed today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a pipe under the roadway. 

The closure will be located between County Road T-4 and County Road T-2.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, work will take place today from 8 am to 3 pm.

CONTRACTS AWARDED FOR ROAD PROJECTS IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has awarded multiple contracts for road projects in Southeast Missouri.

Contracts were awarded Wednesday for a bridge replacement on Route 67 over Cedar Creek in Wayne County, the resurfacing of portions of Eastbound Route 60 in Carter and Shannon Counties, and drainage improvements on Route Y in Sikeston.

Officials say that additional information about the projects, including timelines and impacts to traffic, will be released prior to the start of construction.

MISSOURI VFW RIDERS DISTRICT 15 TO HOST POKER RUN THIS WEEKEND

The Missouri VFW Riders District 15 will be holding their 3rd Annual Poker Run this weekend.

Registration for the event will begin at 8 am this Saturday, June 9th, at the Lake Wappapello United Methodist Church on D Highway. The Poker Run is scheduled to begin at 10 am that morning.

PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO CAUSE ROAD CLOSURE TODAY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

Route V in New Madrid County will be closed through next Thursday as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

According to MoDOT, the section of roadway to be closed is located from Route 80 to Route P.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 4:30 pm through Thursday, June 14th.

KENNETT MAN FACING MULTIPLE CHARGES IN CONNECTION TO INCIDENT LAST WEEK

An area man is facing multiple charges in connection to a domestic disturbance last week in Kennett.

Officials with the Kennett Police Department tell KWOC News that Friday evening officers were dispatched to a residence where they learned that a suspect, armed with a handgun, had allegedly forcibly entered without permission and assaulted and threatened the occupants within.

31 year old Sedrick Harrell, of Kennett, was later arrested for burglary 1st degree, domestic assault 1st degree, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, property damage 2nd degree, and six counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Following the arrest, Harrell was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center.

NO ONE INJURED IN SIKESTON DRIVE BY SHOOTING

No one was injured following a drive by shooting earlier this week in Sikeston.

According to authorities, the incident occurred Monday evening on Greer Street.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing and no arrests have been announced.

PIPE REPLACEMENT TO FORCE CLOSURE OF RIPLEY COUNTY ROAD

Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation will be closing a portion of Route N in Ripley County today to replace a pipe under the roadway.

Officials say the section of roadway to be closed is located between County Road 142E-30 and County Road N-1.

Work is scheduled to take place from 8 am to 3 pm today.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO ARREST IN KENNETT

A traffic stop led to a drug arrest Monday in Kennett.

According to the Kennett Police Department, shortly before 11 pm Monday night, officers conducted a traffic stop during which a suspect exited the vehicle and began fleeing on foot.

After a brief foot pursuit, the subject, identified as 40 year old Calvin Harrell, of Kennett, was apprehended and detained. While searching the area, officers found a container which had a baggie with an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine and several individually wrapped baggies of synthetic marijuana.

Harrell was taken into custody for resisting arrest, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of synthetic marijuana with the intent to distribute. Harrell was also arrested on an active warrant previously issued by the Missouri Probation and Parole board and an active state of Missouri warrant issued out of Butler County.

MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY MARIJUANA CHARGE IN WAYNE COUNTY

Authorities in Wayne County have arrested an area man on a felony drug charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 35 year old Scott Peterson, of Patterson, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute for marijuana.

Peterson is also facing a misdemeanor charge of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

STODDARD COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED FOR TWO DAYS DUE TO PIPE REPLACEMENT

Route Y in Stoddard County will be closed today and tomorrow as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a couple of culvert pipes under the roadway. 

The closure will take place today and tomorrow from 7 am to 4 pm each day.

The work zone will be located from Route AB to Route DD.

In Dunklin County MoDOT crews will also be closing Route B between Route BB and County Road 322 both today and tomorrow for pavement repairs. Crews are scheduled to be on site from 6:30 am to 6 pm each day.

ONE DEAD, ANOTHER INJURED FOLLOWING WRECK ON INTERSTATE 57

A Bernie woman has died from injuries she received in a Monday morning wreck in Scott County.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the wreck occurred on Interstate 57 when a vehicle driven by 70 year old Sharon Stevens turned into the path of another vehicle.

Stevens was pronounced dead at the scene by Scott County Coroner Scott Amick.

The driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

ONE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN CONNECTION TO SHOOTING DEATH IN HAYTI HEIGHTS

A man has been arrested in connection to a weekend shooting death in Hayti Heights.

According to authorities, 43 year old Robert Grant, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, was reportedly shot at Hayti Heights Park on Sunday.

Herschel Grant, of Hayti, has been taken into custody. According to Missouri Case Net, he is facing felony charges of murder 1st degree, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

ROUTE 21 IN CARTER AND REYNOLDS COUNTIES TO BE REDUCED THIS WEEK

Route 21 in Carter and Reynolds Counties will be reduced to one lane this week while Missouri Department of Transportation crews seal the roadway. 

The section of roadway involved in the project is located from US 60 in Carter County to Route K at Ellington in Reynolds County.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 5 pm daily through Thursday.

RIDER KILLED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY MOTORCYCLE WRECK

A motorcycle rider was killed in a wreck Monday afternoon in New Madrid County.

According to authorities, 67 year old Joseph Woodruff, of Bartlett, Tennessee, was driving a motorcycle on Interstate 55 when he struck the rear of a vehicle and was ejected.

Woodruff was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

MAN FACING METH CHARGE FOLLOWING ARREST IN STODDARD COUNTY

A Brownwood man was taken into custody yesterday on a felony meth charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 37 year old Brandon Mcintyre was arrested on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor Stoddard County warrant.

Following the arrest, Mcintyre was held at the Stoddard County Jail.

MARSTON MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES

Authorities in New Madrid County arrested an area man Monday morning on multiple drug related charges.

59 year old Joseph Smeltzer, of Marston, was reportedly taken into custody shortly after 9 am Monday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Smeltzer is also facing a charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

ROAD PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY ON ROUTE VV IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

Route VV in Dunklin County will be reduced with a 12 foot width restriction beginning today as contractor crews perform pavement repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route VV will be reduced from Route O to Route 412.   

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Friday, June 15th from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm daily.

ONE KILLED, FIVE INJURED IN BOAT COLLISSION

A Poplar Bluff teenager has died and five people are injured following a boat collision in Butler County.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the collision occurred on Black River eight miles north of Poplar Bluff at around 7:30 pm Sunday.

The collision occurred as one of the boats was traveling downstream, veered into the path of the other boat and struck it head on, ejecting the occupants of both boats.

A 16 year old female occupant of the second boat was later pronounced dead at a Poplar Bluff hospital.

Four people involved in the wreck suffered serious injuries, including the driver of the first boat. Of these four, one was flown to a Memphis hospital, two were flown to a Cape Girardeau hospital, and the fourth was transported by ambulance to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

The driver of the second boat was moderately injured and also taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

According to a Highway Patrol arrest report, the driver of the first boat, 27 year old Braden Bollinger, of Dexter, is facing charges of boating while intoxicated.

ARKANSAS MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY METH CHARGE

A Northeast Arkansas man was taken into custody Friday on a felony drug charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 59 year old William Russell, of Piggott, was arrested shortly after 5 pm Friday on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following the arrest, he was held at the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office.

ROAD WORK SET FOR TODAY IN WAYNE COUNTY

Route 34 in Wayne County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.

The section of Route 34 to be reduced is located between First Street and Hazel Street.

Officials say there will be a temporary stop sign in place, which will be taken down Tuesday morning.

MAN FACING CHARGES IN CONNECTION TO SEVERAL BUSINESS BURGLARIES IN DEXTER

An area man has been charged in connection to several Southeast Missouri business burglaries.

According to the Dexter Police Department, Jacob Jackson, of Dexter, was arrested in Malden in late April.

During interviews with Jackson, he allegedly admitted to being involved in several business burglaries in Dexter.

A warrant has been issued for Jackson, charging him with nine counts of burglary in the 2nd degree, six counts of felony stealing, four counts of property damage, and two counts of misdemeanor stealing. Jackson’s bond was set at $500,000 cash.

NO ONE INJURED IN MATTHEWS BUSINESS FIRE

There were no injuries in connection to a fire yesterday at a Matthews’s business.

The fire was located at Flying J.

Multiple area fire crews were involved with fighting the fire and the building is being considered a total loss. No information has been released about a possible cause for the fire.

PARAGOULD ROAD TO BE TEMPORARILY CLOSED BEGINNING TODAY

Motorists in Paragould are being advised to plan ahead due to a road closure.

According to the Paragould Police Department, beginning today, Fairview Road will be closed between North Rocking Chair Road and Cherokee Lane.

Officials say the closure is due to roadway repairs being performed by the Street Department and is expected to last a few days.

2.3 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE RECORDED IN THE MARSTON AREA

A small earthquake was recorded Friday in the Marston area.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at 7:41 pm Friday night, 3.8 miles northwest of Marston.

The recorded magnitude for the quake was 2.3 and it had a depth of 5.6 miles.

SOME AREAS RECEIVE DAMAGE FOLLOWING STORM SYSTEM

Yesterday’s storm system that crossed the area resulted in damage to some parts of our listening area. 

According to the National Weather Service there were numerous reports of trees and limbs being down throughout Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas. There was also a report of damage to a structure in Paragould. 

Funnel Clouds were also reported yesterday in both Carter and Cape Girardeau County. The National Weather Service says that here was also an unconfirmed report of a tornado northeast of Jackson moving across the Mississippi River.

As of 4 am this morning, Ameren Missouri was reporting almost 300 customers were without service in the Benton area. 

In Northeast Arkansas, Entergy Arkansas reported an outage affected over 1,100 customers in the combined Imboden, Black Rock, and Ravenden areas. 

ORAN EAGLES WIN CLASS 1 STATE BASEBALL TITLE

Another Southeast Missouri baseball team is bringing home a state championship. 

The Oran Eagles were victorious in the Class 1 Missouri state final yesterday by a score of 4 to 1 over St. Elizabeth. 

Oran got a strong outing from starting pitcher Drew Reischman who threw a complete game, giving up 7 hits and no walks. 

POLICE INVESTIGATING BUSINESS BURGLARY IN KENNETT

Authorities in Kennett are investigating a reported burglary. 

According to the Kennett Police Department, shortly after 11:30 am on Wednesday, officers were dispatched to Havoc’s Ink Emporium on Saint Francis Street in reference to a burglary. 

At the scene, officers noted that someone had forced entry into the business and had stolen several items. 

Police say that there are no suspects and the incident is still under investigation.

TWO ARRESTED ON METH CHARGES IN BUTLER COUNTY

Two people were each taken into custody early Thursday morning in Butler County on a felony meth charge. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 30 year old Vinetia Samel, of House Springs, and 28 year old Christopher Johnson, of Dexter, were each arrested shortly after 12:00 am Thursday morning on charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Officials say that Johnson is also facing a felony charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.

DONIPHAN FOOTBALL TO HOST FISH FRY AND OPEN HOUSE LATER THIS MONTH

Area residents will have a chance to tour the new Doniphan football stadium later this month. 

Doniphan Football will be hosting a Fish Fry and Open House on Friday June 29th at the Doniphan Dons Football Field House.

FOUR POPLAR BLUFF STUDENTS NAMED MISSOURI GOOD SPORTS

Four Poplar Bluff students have been named as Missouri Good Sports. 

A female and male student athlete from both the Junior and Senior High were named Missouri Good Sports for their behavior, positive role modeling, and outstanding display of sportsmanship through participation in interscholastic activities.

The recipients were basketball player and track runner Emilee Cheek and football player, wrestler, and track runner Gatlin Taylor from the Junior High along with cross country, track runner, and swimmer Paige Bradley and basketball player and track runner Dominique Hardimon from the High School.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway to be reduced is located from Route 84 to Route 412.     

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Friday, June 15th from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm, daily.

WRECK NEAR PORTAGEVILLE LEAVES ONE DEAD

One person has died following a single vehicle wreck near Portageville. 

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 74 year old Michael Clark, of Sikeston, was driving a vehicle that overturned after running off of a Pemiscot County outer road. 

The wreck occurred shortly after 5 pm Wednesday, three miles south of Portageville. 

Clark was pronounced dead at the scene by Pemiscot County Coroner Jim Brimhall. 

MISSING BLOOMFIELD TEENAGER FOUND

Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, authorities in Bloomfield say that a missing teenager has been found. 

According to the Bloomfield Department of Public Safety, 16 year old Alexendria Lusk had last been seen at 2 am Tuesday and was reported missing at 9:30 am that morning.

Few details have been released, but according to a post on the Department of Public Safety’s Facebook page, Lusk has been located and is safe. 

MALDEN GREEN WAVE WINS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

The Malden Green Wave baseball team is state champions. 

The Green Wave defeated the Strafford Indians 9-8 Wednesday in the Class 3 State Final in O’Fallon. Malden jumped out to 1-0 lead in the 1st inning before adding three runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth innings. 

Stafford got within one run after six innings and got two runners on in the seventh before being retired. 

Oran will be the next team to play for a state championship after their 7-1 win over Green City yesterday in the Class 1 Semifinals. The Eagles will play the St. Elizabeth Hornets this afternoon for the Championship. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 pm. 

TEENAGER SERIOUSLY INJURED IN RIPLEY COUNTY WRECK

A Doniphan teenager was seriously injured in a wreck early Wednesday morning in Ripley County. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 19 year old Erin Casteel was driving on US Highway 160 at around 2:30 am Wednesday when her vehicle ran off the roadway, struck an embankment and a culvert, and then overturned. 

Casteel suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital. 

WAPPAPELLO PAIR WINS ONE MILLION DOLLARS FROM SCRATCHERS TICKET

Two Wappapello residents will be enjoying a vacation to Jamaica after winning big with a Missouri Lottery scratchers ticket. 

On May 16th, John Hulley and Sheri Stone, of Wappapello, went to their local Food Rite for a bag of ice, and on the way out, they decided to buy some scratchers tickets. 

They each took a few to scratch when they got home, but Stone would be the one to uncover the $1 million top prize on a “$1,000,000 Fortune” Scratchers ticket.

Hulley and Stone say they are planning to use some of the prize money to pay off medical bills. They also plan to relax and take a vacation to Jamaica.

ROY BLUNT WAS IN POPLAR BLUFF WEDNESDAY TO SPEAK WITH LOCAL LEADERS AND BUSINESS OWNERS

A United States Senator was in Poplar Bluff yesterday to highlight tax reform. 

United States Senator Roy Blunt met with small business owners, local leaders, and entrepreneurs Wednesday afternoon at the Poplar Bluff Municipal Airport. 

The meeting was to highlight benefits from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that was passed last December. 

BRIDGE REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS TODAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

Route 53 in Dunklin and Butler Counties will be reduced to one lane today so crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation can perform bridge repairs. 

The repairs will be located at the bridge over Saint Francis River between Route CC and Route J.

Weather permitting, work is scheduled for 8 am to 4 pm today.

OVER WEEK LONG REPAIR PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

Route C in Dunklin County will be reduced with a 12 foot width restriction for over a week as contractor crews perform pavement repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway affected is located from Route N to Route P.  
   
Weather permitting, work will take place today through Friday, June 8th from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm daily.

BLOOMFIELD AUTHORITIES SEARCHING FOR MISSING TEENAGER

Authorities in Bloomfield are asking for the public’s help in locating a missing teenager.

According to a post on the Bloomfield Department of Public Safety Facebook page, 16 year old Alexendria Lusk was last seen at 2 am Tuesday morning in her home. She was reported missing at 9:30 am.

Alexendria Lusk is described as a Caucasian female, five foot, three inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, with hazel eyes, and brown, curly, medium length hair.

TEENAGER SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK NEAR CAMPBELL

Two teenagers were injured in a single vehicle wreck Tuesday night near Campbell.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 19 year old Tyler Stultz, of Holcomb, was driving on Route B in Dunklin County when his vehicle ran off the roadway, struck a ditch, and overturned.

Officials say that a 17 year old passenger in the vehicle was ejected during the wreck.

The passenger was seriously injured while Stultz received moderate injuries and both were transported to a Piggott hospital.

ROUTE EE IN BUTLER COUNTY TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR PIPE REPLACEMENT

Part of Route EE in Butler County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a pipe under the roadway.

The section of Route EE to be closed is located between County Roads 267 and 265.

Weather permitting, work will be performed today from 7:30 am to 4 pm.

MISSOURI GOVERNOR ERIC GREITENS ANNOUNCES HIS RESIGNATION

Missouri Governor Eric Greitens has announced his resignation.

Greitens announced yesterday afternoon that he will be resigning the Governorship effective at 5 pm on Friday.

Greitens said in a brief statement that the past few months have been "incredibly difficult" for him, his family and friends. He says that while he has made mistakes, he has broken no laws.

The resignation comes amid a special session in which the state Legislature is considering Greitens impeachment.

In a statement released after the announcement, Missouri Lieutenant Governor Mike Parson said he was ready to fulfill the duties of the office with honor and integrity.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN FACING FELONY METH CHARGE

An area man is facing a felony meth charge following his arrest Tuesday afternoon in Butler County.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 55 year old Dale Dover, of Poplar Bluff, was taken into custody Tuesday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Dover is also facing a misdemeanor charge of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. Following the arrest, he was held at the Butler County Jail.

MALDEN BASEBALL TEAM ADVANCES TO STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

One Southeast Missouri baseball team will be playing for a state championship this afternoon.

The Malden Green Wave baseball team advanced to the Class 3 state finals following their 9-3 win over Holden on Tuesday. The State Championship game will see the Green Wave matched against the Strafford Indians. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 pm this afternoon in O’Fallon.

In Class 1, the Oran Eagles state semifinal match-up against Green City will also be played this afternoon in O’Fallon. First pitch for that game is scheduled for 4 pm.

PILOT UNINJURED AFTER CROP DUSTER CRASHES IN BUTLER COUNTY

A crop duster crashed Sunday in southern Butler County.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the small plane crashed in the area of County Road 221 near County Road 220.

The pilot was the only occupant on board and he did not suffer any injures.

Officials say the Federal Aviation Administration has been advised of the crash. 

WOMAN FACING MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES FOLLOWING WEEKEND ARREST

A Poplar Bluff woman is facing multiple felony charges following her arrest over the weekend in Butler County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 35 year old Miranda Gregory was taken into custody Saturday night on felony charges of possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, and receiving stolen property.

Gregory also reportedly had warrants from Poplar Bluff and Cape Girardeau County. Following the arrest, she was held at the Butler County Jail.

OVER MONTH LONG BRIDGE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN WAYNE COUNTY

An over month long bridge improvement project is scheduled to begin today in Wayne County.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route 49 in Wayne County will be closed as contractor crews replace the deck of the bridge over Black River, which is located approximately a quarter of a mile south of Mill Spring.

The closure will extend from Birch Street in Mill Spring to County Road 446.

Work is scheduled to begin at 9 am this morning with completion anticipated by 6 pm on Saturday, June 30th.

MALDEN GREEN WAVE BASEBALL TO PLAY IN STATE SEMIFINAL TODAY

The Malden Green Wave Baseball team is two wins away from a state championship.

The Green Wave will play in the Class 3 State Semifinals this afternoon against the Holden Eagles.

The game is scheduled to begin at 4 pm in O’Fallon. Should Malden win, they will advance to play in the State Championship on Wednesday against the winner of the other Semifinal between Hallsville and Strafford. 

BUTLER COUNTY WOMAN KILLED IN HOUSE FIRE

A Butler County woman was killed in a fire last week.

Butler County Coroner Andy Moore tells KWOC News that 82 year old Mary Clark, of Fisk, died in a house fire Friday afternoon.

Moore says that the preliminary investigation revealed that the fire started in a trashcan that then spread.

Members of the Butler County Sheriff's Department, the Butler County Fire Department, the Butler County Coroner’s Office, and the Fire Marshal's Office have been involved in the investigation into the fire.

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY TRAIN IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train last week in New Madrid County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 51 year old Charles Brown, of Portageville, was crossing the rail road tracks at 5th Street and Warren Avenue in Portageville Thursday evening when he was hit by the train.

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene by the New Madrid County Coroner.

TWO QULIN RESIDENTS ARRESTED ON METH CHARGE

Two Qulin residents were each arrested on a meth charge Saturday morning in Butler County.

According to authorities, 34 year old Travis Bond and 46 year old Steven Rick, were each arrested shortly before 10 am Saturday on charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following the arrest, both Bond and Rick were held at the Butler County Jail.

Route O in Dunklin County will be closed beginning today as contractor crews replace the bridge over Snipe Slough Ditch in Kennett.

The bridge is located between Route VV and Providence Road.

According to MoDot, the bridge is scheduled to re-open on Friday, August 24th.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE ATTEMPTING TO LOCATE SEX OFFENDER

Authorities in Poplar Bluff are asking for the public’s help in locating a non-compliant sex offender.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, 50 year old Thomas Eskridge, of Poplar Bluff, has moved from his registered address without reporting his new address to the Butler County Sheriff's Office.

MAN ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON MULTIPLE DRUG RELATED CHARGES

A Naylor man was taken into custody Thursday morning in Butler County on multiple drug related charges.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 34 year old Justin Summers is facing a felony charge of delivery of a controlled substance inside a correctional facility for marijuana.

Summers was also arrested on charges of possession of marijuana – less than 10 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.

US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS TO HOST MUSIC IN THE PARK THIS WEEKEND

The US Army Corps of Engineers at Wappapello Lake is hosting a free and family friendly music event this weekend.

Music in the Park will be held from 3 to 7:30 pm Saturday at the Redman Creek Recreation Area.

According to the Corps of Engineers, there will be multiple acts performing during the event, including Two Girls Bluegrass, Rising Son, Buzzard Run, and the Otter Creek Band.

He was held at the Butler County Jail following the arrest.

HIGHWAY PATROL ENCOURAGES DRIVERS AND BOATERS TO HAVE A SAFE HOLIDAY WEEKEND

Memorial Day weekend is almost upon us and the Missouri State Highway Patrol wants the public to make safety a priority.

Colonel Sandra Karsten, superintendent of the Highway Patrol, tells KWOC News that every available trooper will be on the road enforcing traffic laws and assisting motorists during the long holiday weekend.

Troopers will focus their attention on seat belt use, use of child safety seats, impaired drivers, hazardous moving violations, and speed violations.

Over the 2017 Memorial Day holiday weekend, nine people died and 496 were injured in over 1,100 traffic crashes.

Motorists or boaters in need of assistance or who want to report a crime can use the Highway Patrol's Emergency Assistance number at 1-800-525-5555 or *55 on a cellular phone.

POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN FACING METHAMPHETAMINE CHARGE OUT OF BUTLER COUNTY

Authorities in Butler County have arrested an area woman on a felony meth charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 26 year old Jamie Standley, of Poplar Bluff, was taken into custody Thursday evening on a felony charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Standley is also facing misdemeanor charges of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

Following the arrest, she was held at the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

We are less than two weeks away from the beginning of the 2018 Children’s Summer Reading Program at the Poplar Bluff Municipal Library.

MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SHANNON COUNTY WRECK

A Springfield man was seriously injured in a wreck Wednesday afternoon in Shannon County. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a freightliner was crossing an intersection in Birch Tree when a vehicle, driven by 23 year old Bryon Heard, struck the rear of the trailer and became lodged underneath. 

Heard suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was flown to a Columbia hospital. 

TWO SOUTHEAST MISSOURI SCHOOLS TO PLAY IN STATE BASEBALL SEMIFINALS

Two Southeast Missouri schools will be sending baseball teams to the Missouri state semifinals. 

In Class 3 the Malden Green Wave defeated the West County Bulldogs Wednesday 4 to 3 in the State Quarterfinals yesterday. The Green Wave will face Holden High School next Tuesday in O’Fallon. 

In the Class 1 Quarter-final, Oran beat Eminence 16 to 0 to book their place in the State Semifinals. The Eagles will next play on Wednesday against Green City High School. 

OKLAHOMA WOMAN ARRESTED FOR COCAINE IN STODDARD COUNTY

An Oklahoma woman has been taken into custody in Stoddard County on a felony drug charge. 

According to authorities, 25 year old Atrice Perry, of Oklahoma City, was arrested early this morning on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – cocaine. 

Perry was also arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and no valid operator’s license. 

POPLAR BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION CEREMONY TO BE HELD TONIGHT

The Poplar Bluff High School Class of 2018 will be receiving their diplomas tonight. 

The PBHS Graduation Ceremony will be held tonight at 7 pm at the Black River Coliseum. 

On Friday, the 4th Quarter will come to an end for students in the Poplar Bluff School District and schools will be dismissed early, starting with the Middle School at 11:30 am, followed by the Junior High at 11:40 am, the High School at 11:45 am, the Kindergarten Center at 12:30 pm, and ending with the Elementary Schools at 12:45 pm. 

MISSOURI STATE VETERANS CEMETERY TO HOLD MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM

The Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield will be holding its annual Memorial Day Program next week. 

The ceremony is set to begin at 1 pm Monday at the Committal Shelter Plaza at the Cemetery. 

The Keynote Speaker for this year’s program will be Retired Colonel Jack Jackson from the US Marine Corps.

According to Mayor John Murray, the city of Fisk is under a boil water order until further notice.

ARKANSAS PRIMARY RESULTS

The incumbent Arkansas Governor will be challenged by a former Teach for America executive in November’s election. 

Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson won the Republican primary in his re-election bid yesterday, while Democrats elected Jared Henderson for their nomination. 

For a seat on the Arkansas Supreme Court, Justice Courtney Goodson and Department of Human Services Chief Counsel David Sterling were the top two candidates in a heated three-person race. They both will advance to a runoff in the November general election. 

According to unofficial results from the Arkansas Secretary of State’s office, in Greene County, Sheriff David Carter won the Republican nomination for Sheriff over Shanon Anthony. In Randolph County, Chris Winebaugh defeated Larry Rogers for the Democratic nomination for Sheriff. 

FIRE LEADS TO ARREST IN KENNETT

An arrest has been made in connection to a weekend fire in Kennett. 

Officials with the Kennett Police Department tell KWOC News that shortly after 4 am Saturday morning officers were dispatched to a residence on Harris Street in reference to a fire. 

At the scene officers learned that a subject had set the victims clothing on fire in a yard near the house which lead to the house becoming involved in the fire. 

Officials say that 33 year old Sidney Harris, of Kennett, was later arrested for arson 1st degree and held in the Dunklin County Justice Center pending the filing of formal charges by the Dunklin County Prosecutor’s office.

MOTORISTS ASKED TO USE CAUTION IN THE AREA OF THE 100 MILE YARD SALE

It is almost time for the annual 100 mile yard sale in Southeast Missouri. 

The Memorial Day weekend event will run along Route 25 from Jackson to Kennett through May 28th. 

Missouri Department of Transportation Traffic Engineer Craig Compas says that people should remember that there’s more traffic and more congestion along Route 25 this weekend than any other and drivers should be alert and look for pedestrian traffic. 

Message boards will be in place along the route to alert drivers of the unusual traffic patterns and promote safe driving.

KENNETT RESIDENT FACING ASSAULT AND TRESPASSING CHARGES OUT OF DUNKLIN COUNTY

A Kennett resident is facing multiple charges, including assault, following her arrest earlier this week. 

According to the Kennett Police Department, shortly after 7 am Monday, officers were dispatched to an area residence in reference to an assault. 

Upon arrival, officers arrested 29 year old Kayla Roberts for assault 3rd degree, trespassing, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia as well as an active probation/parole violation warrant. 

Officials say that Roberts was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center on the warrant and was placed on a twenty-four hour hold pending the filing of formal charges by the Dunklin County Prosecutor’s office regarding the new charges.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON METH CHARGE

Authorities in Butler County have arrested a Poplar Bluff man on a felony meth charge. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 36 year old Darrell Dugger was arrested Tuesday afternoon on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine. He is also facing a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Following the arrest, Dugger was held at the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. 

SIKESTON MAN SENTENCED ON FIREARMS CHARGE

A Sikeston man was sentenced earlier this week on a felony firearms charge. 

Officials with the United States Attorney’s Office tell KWOC News that 21 year old Marquan Green was sentenced Monday to 87 months on one felony count of possession of stolen firearms, and ordered to pay restitution of over $6,000.

Earlier this year, Green admitted to breaking into a firearms business in Sikeston and stealing twelve firearms. The incident occurred in March of 2017. 

INTERSTATE REPAIRS UNDERWAY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

Northbound and Southbound Interstate 55 in Scott and New Madrid Counties will be reduced with a 14 foot width restriction through early next month as contractor crews perform pavement repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the work zone is located from mile marker 66 to mile marker 49.

Weather permitting, work is scheduled to take place from 6 am to 7 pm daily through Saturday, June 2nd.

ARREST MADE IN BUTLER COUNTY HOMICIDE

Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, an arrest has been made in a homicide investigation in Butler County.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that the investigation began Sunday afternoon.

MARK DOBBS: 

Sunday around 3 o’clock, our officers received a call and responded to the area of County Road 612 in eastern Butler County in reference to a black male laying on the edge of the roadway who was apparently deceased and was apparently the victim of a homicide. Since then the major case squad has been activated, consisting of the Butler County Sheriff's Office, Poplar Bluff Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control, as well as the Butler County coroner's office. In the early morning hours, we did arrest one suspect, one person of interest, he's being held on an unrelated charge and unrelated parole absconder warrant out of Michigan. That individual’s name is Demetrion Lafayette, age 30, He shows or claims a Poplar Bluff address however he's not necessarily a long-term resident here. At this time it’s believed that the motivation was misunderstanding over sales of illegal narcotics, it is believed both the victim and the suspect were at least medium level dealers of illegal narcotics. They had a misunderstanding. The suspect is being held without bond on a Michigan charge. And we anticipate that being that a murder charge being filed on him at some point in the very near future. The victim schedule for an autopsy the preliminary appearance of it is that he most likely died of gunshot wounds however that something that the autopsy will have to review. At this time investigation continues members of the major case Squad are continuing to follow up leads and shore up the case and make a good criminal case and get a clear understanding of what it is exactly that took place out at the scene.

2018 ARKANSAS PREFERENTIAL PRIMARY ELECTION TO BE HELD TODAY

Voters across Arkansas will be heading to the polls today.

The 2018 Preferential Primary will be held today with both state and local primary races to be decided.

According to Arkansas Secretary of State Mark Martin, polls close tonight at 7:30 pm. Voters can find their polling location at sos.arkansas.gov.

STODDARD COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED OVER NEXT FEW DAYS FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS

Route CC in Stoddard County will be closed over the next few days so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform pavement repairs.

According to MoDOT, Route CC will be closed from 7 am to 3:30 pm daily today through Thursday. 

The work zone will be located from Route HH to Route A.  

STEELE MAN SENTENCED TO OVER 16 YEARS IN CONNECTION TO AREA ROBBERY

A Steele man has been sentenced for his role in a 2016 convenience store robbery.

According to the United States Attorney's Office, 40 year old Ryan Sandson was sentenced to 200 months on one felony count of interference with commerce by threat or violence and one felony count of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

Sandson reportedly admitted that he and Anthony Jackson made a plan to rob a business in Caruthersville on September 21st, 2016. Sandson provided the pistol and was to serve as the getaway driver.

Sandson illegally possessed the pistol as he had previously been convicted of the felonies of carjacking, aggravated robbery, and burglary.

BRIDGE MAINTENANCE TO CAUSE DELAYS TODAY IN INTERSTATE 55

Southbound Interstate 55 in New Madrid County will be reduced today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance.

According to officials, the work zone will be located between County Road 820 and Route 80.

Weather permitting, work is scheduled to take place from 8 am to 4 pm.

DEXTER STUDENT GIVEN CONGRESSIONAL AWARD

A Dexter student was presented a Congressional Award this past weekend.

On Saturday U.S. Representative Jason Smith presented a Congressional Award to Matthew Agey of Dexter. The award is the highest honor given by Congress to a youth who excels in a number of areas including personal development, public service, physical fitness and exploration.

Smith tells KWOC News that Agey gave more than 100 hours in voluntary public service in his community, including assisting at 4H and Sons of the American Legion events as well as helping raise money for Wreaths across America and local cancer organizations.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY IN BUTLER COUNTY

A homicide investigation is underway in Butler County.

Butler County Coroner Andy Moore tells KWOC News that 32 year old Jermaine Johnson, of Poplar Bluff, was found dead with gun shout wounds Sunday in the area of County Roads 620 and 612 in Butler County.

The major case squad has been activated for the investigation and Moore says that an autopsy has been scheduled for this afternoon in Farmington.

MAN SOUGHT IN CONNECTION TO SIKESTON SHOOTING

A man is being sought in connection to a shooting at a Sikeston business.

Sergeant Jon Broom with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety tells KWOC News that on Saturday, May 12th, patrol officers observed what appeared to be a disturbance break out at West Side Liquor. The officer heard one gunshot and observed vehicles fleeing the scene.

While officers were investigating they learned a subject had arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.  The victim is expected to make a full recovery.

Sergeant Broom says that 29 year old Lonnie Bell, of Sikeston is wanted in connection to the shooting. Bell has an active warrant for his arrest for assault 1st, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon. His bond is set at $100,000, cash only.

Anyone who has information on Bell’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Sikeston DPS or their local police department.

TEENAGER ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES

A teenager was arrested Friday in Stoddard County on multiple felony charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 18 year old Keri Williams, of Oran, was taken into custody on felony charges of forgery and hindering prosecution. She is also facing a charge of possession of marijuana.

Following the arrest, Williams was held at the Stoddard County Jail.

WATER TO BE SHUT OFF THIS MORNING IN CLARKTON FOR REPAIRS

Some residents in Clarkton may be without water for part of today due to repairs.

According to the Clarkton Fire and Rescue Facebook page, the water will be shut off at 8 am this morning to repair two water leaks.

A timetable for when the water will return was not released.

ONE DEAD, FOUR INJURED IN PEMISCOT COUNTY WRECK

A Caruthersville man has died from injuries he received in a Friday evening wreck.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the wreck occurred shortly after 6 pm Friday on Missouri Highway 84 in the Hayti area.

A vehicle driven by 30 year old Ricky Mitchell, of Caruthersville, reportedly crossed the center line of the highway and struck another vehicle head on.

The driver of the second vehicle, 27 year old William Hayes, also of Caruthersville, was later pronounced dead at a Pemiscot County hospital.

Three children in Mitchell’s vehicle were seriously injured in the wreck and transported to a local hospital.

Mitchell suffered minor injuries and was arrested later Friday on a felony charge of involuntary manslaughter and three counts of assault second degree.

BROSELEY MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON FELONY RESISTING ARREST CHARGE

A Broseley man is facing a felony resisting arrest charge following his arrest over the weekend.

According to the Highway Patrol, 55 year old Darryl King was taken into custody Saturday afternoon on a felony charge of resisting arrest by fleeing along with a felony charge of driving while revoked.

Officials say that King was transported to the Butler County Jail following the arrest.

BERNIE RESIDENT FACING CHARGES OF STATUTORY RAPE AND STATUTORY SODOMY

A Bernie resident was taken into custody last week on a statutory rape charge.

Officials with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 32 year old Garrette Mason was recently arrested on one felony count of statutory rape 2nd degree and two felony counts of statutory sodomy 2nd degree.

Mason’s bond has been set at $50,000, cash only.

STODDARD COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS

Route CC in Stoddard County will be closed today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform pavement repairs.

The section of Route CC to be closed is located from Route 114 to Route HH.        

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 am to 3:30 pm.

MALDEN MAN FACING CHARGES OF BURGLARY AND STEALING

Authorities in Malden say that an area man was in custody earlier this week on a felony Dunklin County warrant. 

According to the Malden Police Department, on Wednesday officers arrested 38 year old Christopher Ellison, of Malden, on a felony Dunklin County warrant for the charges of Burglary 2nd and Stealing.

Ellison was held at the Malden City Jail on a $75,000 bond. 

REPORT OF AN UNWANTED GUEST LEADS TO DRUG ARREST IN KENNETT

A report of an unwanted guest led to a drug arrest Wednesday in Kennett. 

According to the Kennett Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence Wednesday evening in reference to an unwanted guest.

At the residence, 31 year old Charles Reeves, of Gobler, was arrested on an active warrant issued by the Missouri Probation and Parole office. During the arrest, officers located several loose prescription medication pills and narcotic paraphernalia on Reeves. 

He was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center on the warrant as well as on a twenty-four hour hold pending the filing of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia charges. 

MULTIPLE EVENTS SCHEDULED FOR KIDS TO PARKS DAY THIS WEEKEND AT WAPPAPELLO LAKE

Officials with the US Army Corps of Engineers tell us that multiple activities have been scheduled for the 2018 Kids to Parks day this weekend at Wappapello Lake. 

The free event has been scheduled for 9 am to noon on Saturday at the Redman Creek Recreation Area. 

There will be a variety of fun water safety and recreational themed games and activities with prizes also being awarded.

DEXTER WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON BURGLARY AND CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE WARRANTS

A Dexter woman has been taken into custody on multiple warrants in Stoddard County. 

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 19 year old Taylor Pullam was recently arrested on two felony Stoddard County warrants. 

One of the warrants was for burglary with a $10,000 bond set, while the other was for possession of a controlled substance and had a bond set at $5,000. 

Officials say that Pullam remained in jail as of this morning. 

SIKESTON MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY METH AND PARAPHERNALIA CHARGES

A Sikeston man was arrested last night on a felony meth charge in Scott County. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 25 year old Jared Townsend was taken into custody at around 8:30 pm on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine. 

Townsend was also arrested on a felony charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and was held at the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.  

NATIONAL SAFE BOATING WEEK BEGINS ON SATURDAY

National Safe Boating Week kicks off on Saturday and state officials want boaters to arrange for a thorough inspection of their vessel prior to taking it out on the water. 

Colonel Sandra Karsten, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, tells KWOC News that the Patrol’s marine operations troopers will be available to inspect the required equipment on your boat to make sure you’re in compliance with state law.

On Saturday, boaters can get their vessel inspected from 8 to 10 am at the Van Buren River Front Boat Ramp, and from 9 am to 11 am at the Redman Recreational Boat Ramp and Doniphan City Boat Ramp.

TWO VEHICLE WRECK NEAR ADVANCE LEAVES ONE DEAD, TWO INJURED

Authorities say that one person is dead and two are injured following a wreck Wednesday morning near Advance.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the wreck occurred at around 5:30 am on Route C, two miles west of Advance.

A vehicle driven by 29 year old Jacob Bates, of Puxico, was attempting a pass when he struck another vehicle.

Bates was pronounced dead at the scene by Stoddard County Coroner Kenny Pope.

Two people in the second vehicle were injured, one seriously, and taken to area hospitals.

OVER 250 PEOPLE WITHOUT POWER THIS MORNING FOLLOWING STORMS IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

A storm system that tracked through Northeast Arkansas last night resulted in over 250 people being without power this morning.

According to Entergy Arkansas, 264 customers in the Corning and Rector areas were still without power as of 4 am this morning. A flood advisory was also in effect for part of the night in Northeastern Randolph County where two inches of rain had fallen.

In Southeast Missouri, Butler County EMA Director Robbie Myers reported to the National Weather Service that a land spout had occurred along State Highway HH in Butler County that resulted in power lines being down along with damage to the tin roof of a shed.

DEXTER MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON FELONY WARRANT

Authorities in Stoddard County have arrested an area man on a felony warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 29 year old Jeremy Jarrell, of Dexter, was recently arrested on a Stoddard County felony warrant for possession of a control substance.

Officials say that Jarrell’s bond was set at $5,000, cash only.

POCAHONTAS MAN KILLED IN TWO VEHICLE WRECK

One man has died following a two vehicle wreck Wednesday morning in Northeast Arkansas.

According to the Arkansas State Police, 26 year old Dennis Young, of Pocahontas, was driving on Highway 63 in the Hoxie area when he crossed the center line and struck a semi head on.

Officials say that Young was killed in the wreck. No injuries were listed for the driver of the semi. 

ARREST MADE IN CONNECTION TO STABBING IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

An arrest has been made in connection to a stabbing last week in Southeast Missouri.

Steele Chief of Police Billy Joe Stanfield tells KWOC News that on May 10th, officers responded to an area residence where they found a victim who was bleeding profusely from a stab wound on his arm.

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment and later released.

Stanfield says that 44 year old Arnold Hill, of Steele, has been taken into custody and is facing charges of assault 1st degree and possession of a controlled substance. His bond was set at $25,000, cash only.

NO ONE HURT IN SIKESTON BUSINESS FIRE

There were no injuries reported following a business fire early Wednesday in Sikeston.

Sergeant Jon Broom tells us that shortly before 1 am yesterday, a patrol officer with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety located fire and smoke coming from the roof of Joy’s Bridal in downtown Sikeston.

Broom says that fire crews were able to extinguish the fire within 30 minutes, but remained on scene until 5 am checking for fire and completing salvage and overhaul.

The business received moderate damage to the roof and second floor as well as smoke damage throughout the building. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A portion of Route C in Wayne County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge repairs.

Officials say that the bridge is located between County Road 225 and Route E.

MAN SHOT BY OFF DUTY NEW MADRID COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTY RESERVE

No charges will be filed following a shooting incident involving a sheriff’s deputy reserve in New Madrid County. 

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, at approximately 8:40 pm Monday, New Madrid County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call of a person shot at a residence in Marston. 

At the scene, deputies found a 42 year old male in the yard with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The male was transported to a hospital where he remains in stable condition.  

During an investigation, deputies learned that an off duty New Madrid County Sheriff's Deputy Reserve shot the 42 yr old male.

Officials say that it was determined through an investigation by the Highway Patrol that the off duty New Madrid County Sheriff's Deputy Reserve acted in self defense during an altercation and no charges will be filed.

TWO ARRESTED ON FELONY WARRANTS IN STODDARD COUNTY

Two people were recently taken into custody on felony warrants in Stoddard County. 

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 55 year old Robert Lutes, of Dexter, and 27 year old Sara Davis, of Malden, were each arrested on a Stoddard County felony warrant for possession of a control substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Officials did not say if the two arrests were connected. 

Lutes bond was set at $12,500, while Davis’s bond was set at $3,500 and officials say both remained in jail as of this morning. 

MOBILE FOOD PANTRY SET FOR THIS WEEKEND IN BUTLER COUNTY

A Mobile Food Pantry will be held this weekend in Butler County. 

The pantry has been scheduled for 7 am this Saturday at Twin Rivers General Baptist Church. 

Attendees should bring a box or laundry basket. 

Twin Rivers General Baptist Church is located at 6300 Missouri Highway 51.

POPLAR BLUFF EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER SCREENINGS TO BE HELD NEXT WEEK

The Poplar Bluff Early Childhood Center is accepting screening appointments for the 2018-2019 school year.

Eastbound and Westbound Route 60 in Stoddard County are being reduced to one lane this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs. 

Officials say the work zone is located from Route 51 to Route 114.  

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 4:30 pm daily through this Friday.  

CREWS TO BE IN PEMISCOT COUNTY FOR REPAIRS ON INTERSTATE 55

There will be various lane closures on northbound and southbound Interstate 55 in Pemiscot County through next week so contractor crews can perform pavement repairs. 

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the closures will be located between the Arkansas State Line and mile marker 17.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 am to 7 pm daily through Friday, May 25th.

MAN KILLED AFTER COLLISION WITH FREIGHTLINER IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

A Pocahontas man has died after being involved in a wreck with a freightliner Monday evening in Randolph County. 

Officials with the Arkansas State Police tell KWOC News that 35 year old Michael Garrett was travelling north on Highway 67 in the Pocahontas area when he crossed the center line and struck a freightliner head on. 

Officials say that Garrett was killed in the wreck. The driver of the freightliner was not injured. 

PEDESTRIAN DIES AFTER BEING STRUCK BY MULTIPLE VEHICLES NEAR FREDERICKTOWN

A pedestrian has died after being struck by multiple vehicles last night in Madison County. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 25 year old John Girard, of Fredericktown was hit by two vehicles while walking on Business 67, one mile south of the city. 

Girard was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic at 9:17 pm. 

SIKESTON MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON STODDARD COUNTY FELONY WARRANT

Authorities in Stoddard County say they have arrested a Sikeston man on a felony warrant. 

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 21 year old Kevin Ray Jobe was recently arrested on a Stoddard County felony warrant for possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. 

Officials say that Jobe’s bond was set at $15,000, cash only. 

POPLAR BLUFF STUDENTS TO PERFORM PIRATES OF PENZANCE JR. THIS WEEKEND

Poplar Bluff choir students will be putting on multiple performances this weekend. 

The Poplar Bluff Junior High School Choir will be performing "Pirates of Penzance Jr." this Friday and Saturday at the Kay Porter Theater.

MULTI WEEK ROAD PROJECT UNDERWAY IN BUTLER COUNTY

A multiple week road project is underway in Butler County. 

Route FF in Butler County is being reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction so contractor crews can perform an asphalt overlay of the roadway.

The section of roadway affected is located between Route 51 and Route CC.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 am to 6 pm, daily through Friday, June 8th. 

PIPE REPLACEMENT TO CAUSE ROAD CLOSURE TODAY NEAR PIEDMONT

Route B in Wayne County will be closed today as crews replace a pipe under the roadway. 

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route B will be closed today from 8 am to 3 pm. 

The work zone will be located about four and a half miles south of Piedmont.

PAVEMENT REPAIRS UNDERWAY IN DUNKLIN AND STODDARD COUNTIES

Route H in Dunklin and Stoddard Counties is being reduced to one lane this week as crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation perform pavement repairs
