TWO ARRESTED ON DRUG AND GUN CHARGES IN POPLAR BLUFF  

Authorities in Butler County have arrested two people on felony gun and drug charges.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 55 year old David Wallace and 49 year old Sherry Huffine, both of Poplar Bluff, were taken into custody Tuesday night on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Both Wallace and Huffine are also each facing a charge of possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana.

MAN CONVICTED IN CONNECTION TO KENNETT STORE ROBBERY

A man has been convicted on multiple felony charges in connection to the robbery of a Kennett convenience store.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 36 year old Julius Jones was found guilty of one felony count of Interference with Commerce by Robbery and one felony count of Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Crime of Violence.

In July of 2015, Jones was involved in a robbery at Curt’s Grocery in Kennett.

The jury deliberated for approximately 45 minutes before finding Jones guilty on both counts. He now faces a maximum punishment of life imprisonment and a $250,000.00 fine.

His sentencing has been scheduled for May 15th.

SIKESTON POLICE INVESTIGATING BURGLARY

Authorities in Sikeston are investigating a burglary at an area business.

Sergeant Jon Broom with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety tells KWOC News that on Monday, officers responded to an alarm sounding at Re-Armm Inc. Officers checked the building and discovered evidence of forced entry.

Once inside officers found that the firearm display case had been damaged and several firearms were missing.

Anyone with information about the burglary is being asked to contact Sikeston DPS at 573-471-4711.

CLASSES CANCELLED IN CHARLESTON DUE TO ILLNESS

Classes have been cancelled in a Southeast Missouri school due to student illnesses.

According to the Charleston R-1 Facebook page, school has been cancelled for both today and tomorrow.

Officials say that Parent Teacher Conferences and Kindergarten Enrollment have been cancelled as well in addition to the CMS Food Bank food distribution.

FOUR TORNADOS TOUCHED DOWN IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI LAST THURSDAY

The National Weather Service has confirmed that four tornados touched down during the storms last Thursday in Southeast Missouri.

Weather officials say that two of the tornados were in New Madrid County, with one also recorded in the Broseley and Bernie areas. One of the New Madrid County tornados has been classified as EF-2, while the other three were EF-1.

No fatalities or injuries were reported in connection to the tornados; however several homes and structures were damaged or destroyed.

POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE WARRANT

A Poplar Bluff woman has been taken into custody in Stoddard County.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 31 year old Kelly Royer was recently arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

Royer’s bond was set at $15,000 and she reportedly remained in jail as of this morning.

POPLAR BLUFF KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT TO CONTINUE TOMORROW MORNING

Poplar Bluff Kindergarten enrollment is scheduled to continue tomorrow.

Enrollment will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday. Officials say that no appointment is necessary.

Parents are asked to bring a birth certificate, shot record, proof of residency and social security card, if possible. For more information, call the Kindergarten Center at 573-785-4905.

WRESTLER AND SWIMMER NAMED POPLAR BLUFF ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

A Poplar Bluff High School wrestler and swimmer have been named as athletes of the month for February.

The Mules Booster Club has named wrestler Josh Lewis and swimmer Taylor Norwood for the honors.

Senior Josh Lewis has a season record of 40 wins and 4 losses and a career record of 116 wins and 47 losses. This year he was the SEMO Conference champion and the Class 4, District 1 champ. He is also the Tiger Classic champ for the past two years; and a three-time state qualifier, according to his coach, David Sievers.

Junior Taylor Norwood was the first in Southeast Missouri to hit a state cut in every swimming event last school year, according to her coach Beth Lewis. A three-time conference MVP, she has gone undefeated in all of her individual swims and holds eight school records and numerous meet records.

She has also been named All State in the 200 individual medley and the 100 fly all three seasons of her high school career.

HARVIELL MAN FACING FELONY METHAMPHETAMINE CHARGE  

Authorities in Butler County have arrested a Harviell man on a felony meth charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 28 year old Jeremy Riggs was taken into custody early this morning on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance for methamphetamine.

Riggs is also facing a charge of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

POPLAR BLUFF RADIO SHACK TO CLOSE

The Poplar Bluff Radio Shack is shutting down.

Radio Shack disclosed last week that the company is closing approximately 200 stores as a part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy announcement.

According to the Radio Shack website, the Poplar Bluff store is closing and has an inventory clearance sale underway.

A date was not given for when the closing will be complete.

REGISTRATION UNDERWAY FOR YOUTH VOLLEYBALL IN POPLAR BLUFF

Girls in third through sixth grade have less than one week left to get signed up for youth volleyball.

Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation is accepting registrations for youth girls volleyball through March 17th. The registration fee is $10.

FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING

The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for all of Southeast Missouri.

According to the NWS, hard freezes are expected both tonight and tomorrow night with temperatures falling to the mid to low 20’s.

These temperatures can cause damage to plants or fruit trees that are blooming ahead of schedule. Anyone with these types of plants are advised to take necessary precautions.

The freeze warning is in effect through 10 am Thursday morning.

DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE WARRANT

A Dexter man has been arrested on a controlled substance warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 35 year old James Robinson was recently arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

No bond has been set and Robinson reportedly remained in jail as of this morning.

PAVEMENT REPAIRS UNDERWAY ON INTERSTATE 55 IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

An Interstate 55 southbound on and off ramp in New Madrid County is being reduced as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

According to MoDot the ramps affected are located at the Marston exit at mile marker 40.

Weather permitting, work is scheduled to be done today and tomorrow from 7 am to 5 pm each day.

CHILI SUPPER TO BE HELD THIS EVENING AT O’NEAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The O’Neal Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization will be holding a chili supper this evening at the school.

The supper will include a bowl of chili, hot dog, drink, and cookie for $5. There will also be a silent auction with multiple items and a raffle for a handmade quilt made by a teacher and students.

The chili supper has been scheduled for 4:30 pm to 7 pm tonight.

MAN FACING CHARGES AFTER CRASHING INTO A HOUSE IN BUTLER COUNTY  

Officials say that a Butler County man is facing charges after he crashed his vehicle into a house Sunday afternoon.

According to authorities, 41 year old Thomas Yingling, of Broseley, hit the home after he ran a stop sign at Cravens Road and Business 67 in Butler County.

Yingling, who suffered minor injuries in the wreck, is reportedly facing charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of drug paraphernalia, careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident, and felony possession of a controlled substance.

TWO WOMEN SOUGHT IN CONNECTION TO WAYNE COUNTY INVESTIGATION TAKEN INTO CUSTODY

Updating a story we brought to you last week, authorities have arrested two women who were sought in connection to an investigation in Wayne County.

According to authorities, 45 year old Saundra Peppers and 20 year old Tabitha Peppers, both of Piedmont, were taken into custody Saturday afternoon.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, both women were being sought following an investigation that resulted in the arrest of multiple people last week.

TWO ARRESTED ON GUN AND DRUG CHARGES IN BUTLER COUNTY

Two Poplar Bluff men were taken into custody over the weekend in Butler County on gun and drug charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 31 year old Darnell Webb and 29 year old Derek Brooks were each arrested Saturday morning on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance - hydrocodone, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Following the arrests, both men were held at the Butler County Jail.

PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO BEGIN TODAY ON ROUTE 60 IN STODDARD COUNTY

East and Westbound ramps to Route 60 in Stoddard County will be closed this week as contractor crews perform pavement repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the two on-ramps from Route 25 to Route 60 east and westbound will be closed.

Weather permitting, work will take place today and tomorrow from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m on the eastbound ramp and from 6 pm to 6 am on Tuesday and Wednesday on the westbound ramp.

DEPUTY AND SUSPECT SHOT DURING EXECUTION OF SEARCH WARRANT IN WYATT

A Mississippi County deputy and a suspect were both shot last week during the execution of a search warrant.

Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that deputies with the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department executed the search warrant for a narcotics investigation Friday morning at a residence on Pecan Street in Wyatt.

When the deputies entered the residence, 36-year- old Johnathan Lee Jones, of Wyatt, allegedly began shooting toward the deputies and the deputies returned fire. During the exchange of gunfire, both the suspect and one deputy were struck.

The deputy and Jones were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries; and both have undergone surgery. The deputy is in stable condition; while Jones is in critical, but stable condition.

Parrott says Jones has been charged with assault first degree, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action.

At the request of the Mississippi County Sheriff, the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the officer-involved shooting.

ELLSINORE MAN FACING FELONY CHARGE OF ENDANGERING THE WELFARE OF A CHILD

Authorities in Butler County have arrested an Ellsinore man on multiple felony charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 43 year old Stanley Vest was taken into custody Saturday night on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and two counts of 1st degree endangering the welfare of a child.

Vest is also facing a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Butler County Jail.

ROAD REDUCTCIONS SCHEDULED FOR EARLY THIS WEEK IN CARTER AND SHANNON COUNTIES

Eastbound US 60 in Carter and Shannon Counties will be reduced to one lane while Missouri Department of Transportation crews continue to cut brush and trim trees along the roadway.

This section of road is located from Route P in Carter County to Route W in Shannon County.

Weather permitting, work will take place today and tomorrow from 7 am to 5 pm each day.

ORAN EAGLES WIN STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

The Oran Eagles are State Basketball Champions.

The Oran boys basketball team won the Class Two finals on Saturday 70 to 63 over the Crane Pirates.

Oran’s Jacob Shoemaker scored 33 points to help the Eagles finish the season 23 and 8.

Following this past weekend, there is only one team remaining in Southeast Missouri with a chance to win a state title. The Dexter Lady Bearcats have advanced to the state Semi-finals in Class 4. The Lady Bearcats will take on St. Pius X, out of Kansas City, this Thursday in Columbia.

MULTIPLE FUNNEL CLOUDS SPOTTED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI DURING THURSDAY NIGHT STORMSThere have been multiple reports of damage across Southeast Missouri following Thursday night’s storm system.

According to the National Weather Service, funnel clouds were spotted last night in Carter and Butler Counties.

Multiple trees and power lines were down around Poplar Bluff. A trained spotter in Stoddard County says that a house had severe damage and several grain bins were damaged as well.

Part of Highway 25 between Bernie and Malden was closed due to utility poles and debris on the roadway. Officials in New Madrid also encouraged residents to stay off of roadways due to debris in numerous areas of the town.

There were also multiple reports of power outages due to the storms as well as hail.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RELEASED ABOUT STRING OF WAYNE COUNTY ARRESTS Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, authorities in Wayne County have released additional information about multiple arrests that were made earlier this week.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, the arrests were made after undercover investigators made buys from the individuals. The drugs consisted of prescription medications, which included morphine and hydrocodone, as well as methamphetamine.

The SEMO Drug Task Force, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Piedmont Police Department also participated in the arrests.

Two women are still being sought in connection to the investigation. Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of Saundra Marie Peppers or Tabitha Marie Peppers is asked to contact the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department at 573-224-3319.

FREEZE WARNING TO BE IN EFFECT TONIGHT Temperatures are expected to drop tonight ahead of expected snow on Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, a freeze warning will be in effect overnight tonight for all of Southeast Missouri and parts of Northeast Arkansas. The warning says that cold Canadian high pressure will surge southeastward across the area, setting the stage for a hard freeze overnight.

We also have chances of snow beginning in the overnight hours tonight, with snow likely during the day on Saturday. Saturday night we have chances of snow mixed with freezing rain.

After a break on Sunday, the NWS says we have a chance of snow showers again on Monday.

TWO ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE CHARGES Two Poplar Bluff residents were arrested Thursday morning in Butler County on methamphetamine related charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 23 year old Regina Ethridge and 21 year old Dustin Sullivan were taken into custody shortly after 7 am on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Both are also facing a felony charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

DEXTER WOMAN ARRESTED ON DRUG DISTRIBUTION WARRANT Authorities in Stoddard County say a Dexter woman has been taken into custody on a drug related warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 55 year old Bernice Lutes was recently arrested on a warrant for distribution of drugs.

Her bond was set at $25,000.

POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN KILLED IN BUTLER COUNTY WRECKA Poplar Bluff woman died Wednesday afternoon following a two vehicle wreck in Butler County.

Butler County Coroner Andy Moore tells KWOC News that the wreck occurred at 11:05 am, one mile south of Poplar Bluff at Missouri Route 53 and County Road 306.

A vehicle, driven by 39 year old Joseph Hawkins, of Portageville, reportedly turned into the path of another vehicle.

Two people in the second vehicle, 40 year old Kenneth Hughes and 59 year old Leanna Eastwood, both of Poplar Bluff, were injured in the wreck.

Hughes was taken by Air Evac to Regional One Health with serious injuries. Eastwood was taken to Poplar a Poplar Bluff hospital where she died at around 2 pm.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE SEEKING ASSISTANCE IN FINDING NON COMPLIANT SEX OFFENDER Authorities in Poplar Bluff are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a non-compliant sex offender.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, Dallas Wayne Harris is wanted for failure to register as a sex offender. According to the Missouri Case Net, Harris pled guilty to two counts of 1st degree child molestation in 2006.

Anyone with information on Harris’s whereabouts is asked to contact their local law enforcement agency.

SOME AREA EMERGENCY SYSTEMS AFFECTED BY NATIONWIDE AT&T OUTAGE Some local emergency systems were affected by a nationwide AT&T outage last night.

According to the New Madrid Police Department, the outage affected AT&T mobile devices and kept some AT&T customers from being able to reach emergency services via 911.

Dunklin County Emergency Communications also reported being affected by the outage, which lasted for a few hours.

RIPLEY COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLSOED TODAY FOR PIPE REPLACEMENT Route CC in Ripley County will be temporarily closed as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace two pipes under the roadway.

According to MoDot, Route CC will be closed from 7:45 am to 4 pm today.

The work zone will be located from Route 21 to the end of state maintenance.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI UNDER MARGINAL RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER TONIGHT Southeast Missouri is in line for another round of showers and possibly thunderstorms today and weather officials say there is a chance for severe weather as well.

The National Weather Service says that the Storm Prediction Center has Southeast Missouri in a slight risk for severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and this evening.

The main concern will be hail and locally damaging winds.

The Paducah office of the NWS also says that a storm damage survey conducted this week concluded that an EF-1 tornado touched down in northern New Madrid County and moved into Mississippi County on March 1st.

The tornado was on the ground for roughly 15 miles and had peak winds of 100 mph.

FOUR ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO BUST OF THEFT RING IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS Four people have been arrested in connection to the bust of a theft ring in Northeast Arkansas.

Greene County Sheriff David Carter tells KWOC News that recently there have been several big item thefts around rural Greene County.

Carter says that most of the items have been recovered and returned to the owners.

Three people were taken into custody on charges of felony theft of property, Michael Schuler, Wesley Schuler, and Christy Lamar. A fourth person, Jason McDaniel, was arrested on a charge of felony theft by receiving.

EIGHT ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON DISTRIBUTION WARRANTS Eight people were taken into custody Wednesday in Wayne County on felony distribution of a controlled substance warrants.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the first arrest occurred at 8:45 am, with the last arrest happening at 9:21 pm.

The eight people arrested were:

42 year old Celena Walk, of Piedmont, 40 year old Brandy King, of Wappapello, 34 year old Kimberly Meinhardt, of Piedmont, 44 year old George McMullin, of Piedmont, 45 year old Michelle Miller, of Piedmont, 66 year old Larry Strickland, of Wappapello, 51 year old Cheryl Glass, of Wappapello, and 36 year old Donald Rice, of Piedmont.

CULVERT REPLACEMENT TO CAUSE DELAYS TODAY IN CARTER COUNTY Route H in Carter County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert pipe.

The section of Route H affected will be located from County Road 339 to Twin Pond Road.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 8 am to 2 pm.

ENDANGERED PERSON ADVISORY CANCELLED FOR MISSING TEENAGER

  Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, an endangered person advisory that was issued last month for a missing West Plains teenager has been cancelled.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the advisory was issued on February 24th for 17 year old Cecilia “Ce-Ce” Downen.

Downen and 17 year old Damian Henry were believed to possibly be in the Poplar Bluff area.

The Highway Patrol says that due to new information, Downen is no longer believed to be endangered.

  NAMES RELEASED OF THREE ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO PURSUIT

  Authorities have released the names of three people arrested in connection to a pursuit on Monday.

According to authorities, at approximately 12:40 pm Monday, a trooper initiated a traffic stop on U.S. 60 for a registration violation. A pursuit began and the suspect vehicle eventually slid off the road.

At that time, Damarcus Owens reportedly exited the vehicle and fired multiple shots at the trooper and fled the scene on foot. The trooper returned fire.

Another passenger, Laterrence Caldwell fled the scene on foot, while the driver, Damyon Caldwell, fled the scene in the vehicle.

All three were later taken into custody.

  CLARKTON WOMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK

  A Clarkton woman was flown to an area hospital Tuesday night following a single vehicle wreck near Malden.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 28 year old Krista Bates was driving on Route MM in Dunklin County when she ran off the roadway and struck a guardrail.

Bates suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was taken by Air Evac to St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

  HIGHWAY PATROL TO HOLD SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT IN STODDARD COUNTY

  The Missouri State Highway Patrol has announced that they will be holding a sobriety checkpoint in Stoddard County.

Captain Jeffrey Vitale, commanding officer of Troop E, tells KWOC News that the checkpoint will be held sometime this month.

Vitale says the checkpoint will be conducted by the Highway Patrol in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies.

MODOT CREWS TO BE IN BUTLER COUNTY TODAY FOR BRIDGE REPAIRS

  Route B in Butler County will be reduced today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge repairs.

According to MoDot, work is scheduled to be performed today from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The work zone will be located between County Road 559 and Old Highway B.

  TREE TRIMMING TO POSSIBLY CAUSE DELAYS ON US 60

  Eastbound US 60 in Carter and Shannon Counties is being reduced to one lane this week while Missouri Department of Transportation crews cut brush and trim trees along the roadway.

The work zone is located from Route P in Carter County to Route W in Shannon County.

Weather permitting, work will continue from 6:30 am to 3 pm daily through Friday, March 10th.

  BRIDGE REPAIRS TO BEGIN TODAY ON HIGHWAY 53

  Route 53 in Butler and Dunklin Counties will be reduced to one lane beginning today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform bridge repairs.

The bridge to be repaired is located over the Saint Francis River between County Road 218 and County Road 101.

Weather permitting, work will be performed today and tomorrow from 8 am to 3:30 pm.

SUSPECT EXCHANGES GUNFIRE WITH STATE TROOPER DURING PURSUITA suspect reportedly exchanged gunfire with a State Trooper during a pursuit on Monday in New Madrid County.

The rear seat passenger exited the vehicle and fired multiple shots at the trooper and fled the scene on foot. The trooper returned fire.

The front seat passenger fled the scene on foot, while the driver fled the scene in the vehicle. All three suspects were later arrested by officers from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

The names of the three people arrested have not been released.

TWO ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON FELONY HEROIN CHARGES Two Missouri residents were taken into custody Monday in Butler County for heroin.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 32 year old Clayton Ross, of Fremont, and 23 year old Rachel Huddleston, of Imperial, were each arrested at 6 pm Monday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – heroin.

Both are also facing a charge of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia – prior offense.

ROUTE 60 IN BUTLER COUNTY TO BE REDUCED TODAY FOR BRIDGE REPAIRS Route 60 in Butler County will be reduced to one lane today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform bridge repairs.

According to MoDot, the repairs will be at the overpass over U.S. 67 west towards Van Buren.

Weather permitting, work will be performed today from 7 am to 4 pm.

SEVERE WEATHER STRIKES AREA AGAIN A line of storms crossed Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas overnight and into this morning resulting in multiple severe thunderstorm warnings as well as a tornado warning.

According to the National Weather Service, the tornado warning was for western Carter County after a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 9 miles southwest of Birch Tree shortly before 1 am.

Severe Thunderstorm warnings were also issued throughout the night in both Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas.

There have been reports of downed trees in Lawrence County, Arkansas as well as over 269 residences being without power in Clay County.

MISSING TEENAGE GIRL POSSIBLY IN THE POPLAR BLUFF AREA A girl who went missing from West Plains in late February could possibly be in Southeast Missouri.

An Endangered Person Advisory was issued on February 24th for 17 year old Cecilia “Ce-Ce” Downen. Downen, along with a 16 year old girl, were reported as runaway’s by family on February 24th.

Both were believed to be in the company of 17 year old Damian Henry who reportedly associates with the Gangster Disciple gang from the West Plains area. The other girl has been located safe, however Downen is still missing.

According to the advisory, Downen and Henry could possibly be in the Poplar Bluff area.

Anyone with information about Downen or Henry’s whereabouts is asked to immediately contact their local law enforcement agency.

TWO MATTHEWS RESIDENTS FACING METH REALTED CHARGES Two Matthews men were arrested Sunday night on meth related charges.

According to the Highway Patrol, 32 year old Christopher Jackson was taken into custody late Sunday night on charges of possession of methamphetamine, unlawful use of a firearm, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia – methamphetamine.

Just over an hour later, 26 year old William Jackson was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia – methamphetamine.

Officials did not say if the two arrests were connected.

NEW MADRID COUNTY ROAD IS CLOSED FOR BRIDGE REPLACEMENT Route F in New Madrid County will be closed for over a month as contractor crews replace a bridge.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the bridge to be replaced is located between County Roads 346 and 344.

The bridge was closed yesterday. It is scheduled to re-open on Saturday, April 15.

INCOMING STORM SYSTEM COULD BRING SEVERE WEATHER TO SOUTHEAST MISSOURIAn incoming storm system is bringing another chance of severe weather to Southeast Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are projected for tonight and possibly early tomorrow.

The NWS has issued a hazardous weather outlook which says that strong to possibly severe thunderstorms cannot be ruled out tonight. The main hazards with the storms will be damaging winds and hail.

PARAGOULD MAN KILLED IN THREE VEHICLE WRECK A Northeast Arkansas man has died following a three vehicle wreck over the weekend.

According to the Arkansas State Police, the wreck occurred at around 12:40 pm Saturday in Baxter County.

30 year old Anthony Poyner, of Paragould, reportedly crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a vehicle head on. That vehicle was then forced backwards into a third vehicle.

Officials say Poyner was killed in the wreck. The drivers of the two other vehicles were injured and taken to an area hospital.

NWS SAYS PERRYVILLE TORNADO HAS BEEN RATED EF-4 Weather officials say that the tornado that hit Perryville last week has been rated as EF-4.

According to the National Weather Service, the tornado began at 7:55 pm Tuesday, 4.8 miles west northwest of Perryville. The tornado quickly became violent, reaching EF-4 intensity and leveling multiple homes, as well as other structures.

The lone fatality occurred when an I-55 southbound vehicle was intercepted by the tornado.

The tornado reached its greatest width as it approached the Mississippi River where a damage swath six-tenths of a mile wide was measured.

The tornado came to an end at 8:57 pm, 1.8 miles southwest of Christopher, Illinois. Officials say it was the longest track tornado in the coverage area of NWS Paducah since another EF-4 tornado back on April 22, 1981.

NEELYVILLE LADY TIGERS ELIMINATED IN STATE QUARTERFINALS The Neelyville Lady Tigers basketball season has come to an end following a loss in the Class 2 State Quarterfinals.

Neelyville were defeated by Oran 72-69 on Saturday at Three Rivers College. The Lady Tigers finished the season 22 and 4. Both Oran Girls and Boys basketball teams have advanced to the state semi-finals and will play in Columbia on Thursday.

In Class 1, the Advance Hornets secured their spot in the state semifinals with a 75 to 58 win over Eminence.

Also coming up this week, the Dexter Girls and Sikeston boys will each have their Class 4 sectional games on Tuesday in Farmington.

MISSING WOMAN FOUND IN WAYNE COUNTY Authorities say a missing Wayne County woman has been found.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at approximately midnight on March 2nd, a 60-year-old Wayne County resident became lost in a densely wooded and rugged area near her residence while she attempted to locate her dog.

A Highway Patrol helicopter responded to the area and the patrol pilot and an observer located the woman, as well as her dog, approximately two miles from her residence.

The woman was escorted to safety and evaluated by emergency medical services. She refused medical treatment and was returned home.

IDENTITIES RELEASED OF FOUR ARRESTED FOLLOWING SEARCH WARRANT IN NEW MADRID Following up on a story we brought to you last week, officials have released the names of four people who were arrested during the execution of a search warrant in New Madrid.

According to the New Madrid Police Department, on the afternoon of March 1st, a search warrant was served at an area residence.

During the search, officers located numerous items including suspected methamphetamine, prescription medication, cash, two firearms, and drug paraphernalia including pipes and scales.

Michael Shane Sullivan, Whitney Dawn Hill, Tiffany Michelle Jones, and Tina Renee Hall were each arrested and are facing felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana or synthetic cannabinoid and unlawful use of a weapon.

DEXTER MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK A Dexter man was injured early Saturday morning in a single vehicle wreck in Stoddard County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 21 year old Alexander Jennings was driving on Highway 25 at around 4:30 am Saturday when his vehicle ran off the side of the roadway, became airborne, and overturned.

Jennings suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was transported by Air Medical to St. Francis Medical Center.

POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCIL TO HOLD MEETING TONIGHT The Poplar Bluff City Council will be hosting two public hearings and a meeting tonight

The first public hearings will begin at 6:30 pm and is in regards to the Rodgers Theatre project.

A second public hearing will begin at 6:45 pm and is a requirement for the creation of a Community Improvement District. This district will be called the Sycamore Street CID and is for Food Rite on the east side.

The regular meeting will follow at 7 pm.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE CHARGE

  Authorities in Butler County have arrested an area man on a felony controlled substance charge.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 35 year old Darrell Dugger was taken into custody Thursday afternoon on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Dugger also reportedly had multiple warrants out of Butler County.

Following the arrest, Dugger was held at the Butler County Jail.

  MONTHS LONG INVESTIGATION LEADS TO ARREST OF FOUR IN NEW MADRID

  A months long investigation has resulted in the arrest of multiple people in New Madrid.

According to the New Madrid Police Department, on Wednesday afternoon a search warrant was served at a residence on Mill Street in the city.

During the search, officers located numerous items including suspected methamphetamine, prescription medication, cash, two firearms, and drug paraphernalia including pipes and scales.

Officials say that four suspects were arrested and transported to the Pemiscot County Jail. The names of the suspects are being withheld pending the filing of formal charges through the New Madrid County Prosecutor’s Office.

  POPLAR BLUFF MULES AND LADY MULES FALL IN DISTRICT FINALS

  The Poplar Bluff Mules and Lady Mules Basketball teams were both defeated in last night’s Class 5, District 1 championship games.

The Poplar Bluff Boys team went to overtime with Jackson following a game tying three point shot by the Indians. Jackson would end up winning the game 75 to 73.

In the girl’s final, Jackson defeated the Lady Mules 65 to 30.

Coming up this weekend, the Neelyville Lady Tigers are back in action with the opportunity to advance to the state semi-finals on the line. Neelyville will play Oran in the state quarter-finals at 2:45 pm Saturday at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff.

  PORAGEVILLE MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON GUN AND DRUG CHARGES

  A Portageville man is facing gun and drug charges following his arrest Thursday.

According to the Highway Patrol, 47 year old Don Franklin was arrested Thursday morning in New Madrid County on a felony charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Franklin is also facing charges of possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following the arrest, Franklin was transported to the New Madrid County Jail.

  ROAD WORK SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEN IN STODDARD COUNTY

  East and Westbound Route 60 in Stoddard County will be closed this Sunday as contractor crews perform utility repairs.

The section of roadway to be closed is located between County Road 785 and County Road 789.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, work is scheduled to take place from 11 am to 1 pm on Sunday. Officials say that a detour route will be signed.

MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL ANNOUNCES PARTICIPATION IN BOATING CAMPAIGN

  Missouri officials are joining with a nationwide campaign to get boaters prepared for the upcoming boating season.

Lieutenant Colonel Sandra Karsten, acting superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, says that the Patrol will participate in the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators’ Spring Aboard campaign.

The annual Spring Aboard campaign informs and motivates boaters to prepare for the boating season by providing information on how to enroll in a boater education course.

A boating safety certification course will be held from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday, March 25th at the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop E Headquarters in Poplar Bluff.

There is no fee for the course; however, students are required to pre-register online at the Highway Patrol website, as the class will be limited to 30 people. Any student who successfully passes the course will be eligible to order the boating safety certification card, which costs $15.

Missouri law requires everyone born after January 1, 1984, who operates a vessel on Missouri lakes to possess a certified boating safety education card and photo ID. This includes personal watercraft operators.

STORMS CAUSE DAMAGE ACROSS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

  The storms that crossed Southeast Missouri from Tuesday into Wednesday morning have resulted in damage to multiple businesses and homes.

According to the National Weather Service, there were several trees uprooted and power lines knocked down across the area.

In Bernie, a roof was reportedly blown off a grocery store, with outbuildings also being damaged or destroyed in Stoddard and New Madrid Counties.

A freightliner in New Madrid County was overturned after being hit with straight line winds on Interstate 55, the driver suffered minor injuries. An elderly couple was also reportedly rescued from their home in New Madrid County. Eight grain bins were also destroyed in Mississippi County north of East Prairie.

Missouri Governor Eric Greitens was in Perryville Wednesday after a tornado resulted in more than 100 homes in the area being destroyed. A 24 year old Perryville man was killed when his vehicle was blown off of Interstate 55 by the storm.

  BETTER BUSINESS BUREARU WARNING VICTIMS OF STORMS TO BE AWARE OF FRAUDSTERS

  Many area people are still assessing the damage they received in this week’s storms and the Better Business Bureau is warning consumers to be on the lookout for unlicensed or storm-chasing contractors seeking to cash in on the destruction.

After previous storms, the bureau has taken complaints about contractors who took deposits from consumers and did little or no work. Some could not be reached when consumers wanted refunds or were dissatisfied with the repairs.

The BBB says that people should be cautious of door-to-door salespeople who use high-pressure sales tactics. You should also check with your insurance carrier before making major repairs. An adjuster may need to assess the damage, and the carrier may have recommendations for repairs or contractors.

Additional tips for people recovering from the storm damage are available online at the Better Business Bureau website at BBB.org.

The Missouri Department of Insurance has also provided tips for residents who have property damage and what they need to do when contacting their insurance provider at insurance.mo.gov.

  NEELYVILLE LADY TIGERS ADVANCE TO STATE QUARTERFINALS

  The Neelyville Lady Tigers basketball team has advanced to the state quarterfinals for Class 2.

The Lady Tigers defeated Gainsville last night in Mountain Grove 68 to 51. The Lady Tigers will next play Oran at 2:45 pm Saturday at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff.

Coming up tonight there will be a two district championship games played at Poplar Bluff High School. The girls Class 5 District 1 Final between Poplar Bluff and Jackson will tip off at 6 pm, followed by the boys championship, also between Poplar Bluff and Jackson, at 7:30 pm.

  SOME ROADS STILL CLOSED FOLLOWING STORMS

  Some roads are still closed this morning following storms that hit the area earlier this week.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, US 61 in New Madrid County is closed in both directions between Sikeston and Matthews due to downed power lines. US 61 will be closed until further notice.

Missouri Highway 77 in Mississippi County is also still closed south of Wyatt because of utility damage.

Road closures were reported Wednesday in multiple counties including Butler and Stoddard following the storms.

  DEXTER MAN ARRESETD ON FIREARM AND RESISTING ARREST WARRANT

  Authorities in Stoddard County say an area man has been taken into custody on a firearm related warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 24 year old Jeremy Schmidt, of Dexter, was arrested on a warrant for unlawful possession of a firearm, resisting arrest by flight, possession of a defaced firearm, and 4th degree assault.

Schmidt’s bond was set at $7,500 and he reportedly remained in jail as of this morning.

  BRIDGE MAINTENANCE TO BEGIN TODAY ON THREE BRIDGES IN BUTLER COUNTY

  Route B in Butler County will be reduced to one lane through early next week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform maintenance on three bridges.

According to MoDOT, the bridges are located between Old Route B and County Road 559.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Monday, March 6th from 7 am to 3:30 pm daily.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN KILLED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECKA Poplar Bluff man has died after his vehicle hit a tree Friday afternoon.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 46 year old Timothy Anderson was driving on County Road 465 when his vehicle ran off the side of the road, struck an embankment, and a tree.

Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene by Butler County Assistant Coroner Brian Fugate.

TWO POPLAR BLUFF RESIDENTS ARRESTED ON METH CHARGES SUNDAY MORNING Two Poplar Bluff residents were arrested Sunday morning in Butler County on methamphetamine charges.

According to authorities, 44 year old Marshall Lyons and 35 year old Paulette Pickard were each arrested at around 9:30 am Sunday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Lyons is also facing a felony charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.

DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON STATUTORY RAPE WARRANT A Dexter man is in custody following his arrest on a statutory rape warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 40 year old David Madsen was recently arrested on a warrant for 1st degree statutory rape.

Madsen reportedly has a prior conviction for a sex offense. Officials say that no bond has been set.

THREE ARRESTED SATURDAY MORNING IN BUTLER COUNTY ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE CHARGES Three people were taken into custody Saturday in Butler County on controlled substance charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 39 year old Matthew Poole, 30 year old Nicholas Ursery, and 23 year old Jessica Hemphill, all of Poplar Bluff, were each arrested Saturday morning on charges of possession of a controlled substance – meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officials did not say if the arrests were connected to each other. All three were held at the Butler County Jail.

METHAMPHETAMINE, MARIJUANA, AND MUSHROOMS SEIZED DURING SEARCH IN PARAGOULD One man is in custody in connection to the execution of a search warrant last week in Paragould.

Officials with the Paragould Police Department tell KWOC News that on Friday, Street Crimes Unit investigators served a search warrant at the home of Johnathan Slayton.

During the execution of the warrant, officers seized over 300 grams of marijuana, over 180 grams of processed and packaged “shrooms” as well as an actual manufacturing grow operation of psilocybin mushrooms in excess of 200 grams.

One quarter gram of methamphetamine and over two grams of hydrocodone were also seized.

Authorities say that Slayton faces three counts of delivery of controlled substance, manufacturing a schedule one controlled substance, two counts of possession with intent to deliver a schedule one controlled substance, and possession with intent to deliver a schedule six controlled substance.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON FELONY METH AND DRUG PARAPHERNALIA CHARGES A Poplar Bluff man is facing felony meth and paraphernalia charges following his arrest Saturday night.

According to the Highway Patrol, 57 year old Thomas Hall was taken into custody at around 10:35 pm Saturday on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following the arrest, Hall was held at the Butler County Jail.

DRAINAGE REPAIRS TO BE PERFORMED THIS WEEK IN DUNKLIN COUNTY Route 412 in Dunklin County will be reduced to one lane this week so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform drainage repairs.

The section of roadway to be reduced is located between Route P and County Road 542.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE SEARCHING FOR ARMED AND DANGEROUS MAN Poplar Bluff Police are searching for an area man who is being considered armed and dangerous.

Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tell KWOC News that 21 year old Thomas Adam Sondermann, of Poplar Bluff, allegedly stole a vehicle on Wednesday from the Poplar Bluff area.

The vehicle is a maroon 2013 Toyota Highlander with a Missouri license plate of LH4-Z4U. The vehicle has a broken passenger window and possibly front end damage.

Officials say that Sondermann also has warrants out of the PBPD and the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone who has information on Sondermann’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Poplar Bluff Police Department at 573-785-5776.

AUTHORITIES SEARCHING FOR WOMAN IN CONNECTION TO VIOLENT CRIME IN WAYNE COUNTY Authorities in Wayne County are searching for a woman in connection to a violent crime.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, they are seeking help in locating Tabitha Gallaher, who is wanted in connection to a violent crime involving an elderly man. She was reportedly in the Ironton area.

  THREE SERIOUSLY INJURED IN WRECK NEAR ADVANCE Three men were seriously injured Thursday afternoon in a wreck on Missouri Highway 25 in Stoddard County.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that a vehicle driven by 22 year old Tyler Rushing, of Advance, ran off the side of the roadway, hit an embankment, and overturned.

One of the passengers was air lifted to a Cape Girardeau hospital following the wreck. Rushing and a second passenger were also taken to a Cape Girardeau hospital by ambulance.

  NEELYVILLE LADY TIGERS WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP The Neelyville Lady Tigers have won their sixth straight district championship.

Neelyville defeated Thayer 60 to 57 in the finals of Class 2, District 3 Thursday night. The Lady Tigers will next play on Wednesday where they will take on the winner of the Class 2, District 4 final between Gainsville and Hartville.

  BOAT SUBMERGES IN WAPPAPELLO LAKE, THREE INJURED Three Poplar Bluff men were injured Thursday night when a boat they were in submerged in Wappapello Lake.

According to the Highway Patrol, the bow of the vessel had began taking on water. The three men hung on to the boat until it submerged. One of the men had moderate injuries, while the other two suffered minor injuries.

All three were transported to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

  ROAD CLOSURE SET FOR TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY Route F in Butler County will be closed today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform a culvert pipe replacement.

According to MoDot, Route F will be closed between County Roads 488 and 484.

Weather permitting; work will take place today from 8 am to 1 pm.

  STREET TO BE CLOSED AND SOME AREAS TO BE WITHOUT WATER TODAY IN DONIPHAN The Doniphan Street Department will be closing a street in the city today to make water line repairs.

According to the Doniphan Police Department the closure will be at the 1100 block of East Locust Street, which is between Kenwood and Sunny Acres Drive.

The Police Department says that some residents in the area will be without water until the repairs are made.

MAN ALLEGEDLY CAUGHT DRIVING OVER 115 MILES PER HOUR IN WAYNE COUNTYAn Illinois man has been taken into custody in Wayne County after he was allegedly caught driving over 115 miles per hour.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 36 year old Terell Rogers, of O’Fallon, Illinois, was arrested Wednesday night on a charge of speeding – 116 miles per hour in a 65 mile per hour zone, along with possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana.

Following the arrest, Rogers was transported to the Wayne County Jail on a 24 hour hold.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES PARTICIPATION IN NATIONWIDE CRACKDOWN The Poplar Bluff Police Department has announced that it will be participating in a nationwide substance-impaired driving crackdown next month.

The St Patrick’s Day Holiday “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” crackdown will run from March 16th to March 19th. Officers will be aggressively looking for substance-impaired drivers during the crackdown, and will arrest anyone caught driving impaired.

SHOULDER REPAIRS SCHEDULED FOR TODAY ON ROUTE 51 IN BUTLER COUNTY Route 51 in Butler County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform shoulder repairs.

According to MoDot, the section of Route 51 to be reduced is located from Route 53 to County Road 224.

Work is scheduled to take place today from 7 am to 4 pm.

MORLEY MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES A search warrant has led to the arrest of a Morley man on multiple felony charges.

Scott County Sheriff Wes Drury tells KWOC News that deputies executed the search warrant Tuesday at an area residence.

Inside the residence authorities found over 50 grams of a white, rock like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. They also found three loaded pistols.

63 year old Kenneth Boley was arrested and has been charged with felony 2nd degree trafficking drugs, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Boley was transported to the Scott County Jail and his bond has been set at $35,000.

SELECTIVE ENFORCEMENT OPERATION SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI The Missouri State Highway Patrol will be conducting a selective traffic enforcement program operation tomorrow.

The enforcement operation will be held on all roadways within Troop E in Southeast Missouri.

Captain Jeffrey Vitale, commanding officer of Troop E, tells KWOC News that the goal of the operation is to detect hazardous moving, speed, and other violations that contribute to traffic crashes. Troopers will also be aggressively enforcing the seat belt and child restraint laws.

Vitale added that enforcement programs such as this will be ongoing in the Troop E area this year in an effort to reduce traffic crashes.

JOHN J. PERSHING VA MEDICAL CENTER TO HOST EVENT TODAY CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH An event celebrating Black History Month has been scheduled for today at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center.

The art gallery and jazz festival will begin at noon today in the main lobby of the Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

PURSUIT LEADS TO ARREST IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

  A Florissant, Missouri man has been taken into custody following a pursuit earlier this week in Southeast Missouri.

Steele Police Chief Billy Joe Stanfield tells KWOC News that on Monday officers responded to a disturbance call at the Deerfield Travel Center.

When officers arrived, a vehicle fleeing the scene struck the patrol car. Officers pursued the suspect vehicle, which reportedly exceeded speeds of 100 mph.

In New Madrid County, stop sticks were deployed which disabled the vehicle and the driver was taken into custody.

The driver has been identified as 29 year old James Graham Jr. Stanfield says that Graham has been charged with 2nd degree assault and additional charges are pending. His bond has been set at $75,000.

  SPECIAL PROSECUTOR APPOINTED IN STODDARD COUNTY MANSLAUGHTER CASE

  A special prosecutor has been appointed in connection to a fatal incident involving a pedestrian in Stoddard County.

Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Russell Oliver tells KWOC News that he filed a motion Tuesday for the appointment of a special prosecutor for the cases of Wesley Faries and Gaery Faries.

Wesley Faries has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the first degree. He was allegedly driving the vehicle that struck 21 year old Phillip Manning on February 17th. Manning was pronounced dead at the scene.

Faries father, Garey Faries, was charged with hindering prosecution for allegedly falsely claiming he was the driver of the vehicle.

Oliver says that New Madrid County Prosecuting Attorney, Andrew Lawson, has been appointed by the Court to prosecute the cases.

  PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY VEHICLE NEAR PUXICO

  A pedestrian was injured Tuesday after being hit by a vehicle in Stoddard County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 35 year old Dana Roark, of Perryville, was walking across a roadway near Puxico at around 1 pm when she was struck by the vehicle.

Roark suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

  BOATING SAFETY COURSE TO BE HELD IN POPLAR BLUFF

  A boating safety certification course has been scheduled for next month in Poplar Bluff.

The class will be held from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday, March 25th at the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop E Headquarters on Highway 67 North.

Missouri law requires any person born after January 1st, 1984 to carry a boating safety certification card along with a picture ID anytime they operate a vessel, including personal watercrafts, on Missouri lakes.

There is no fee for the course; however, students are required to pre-register online, as the class will be limited to 30 people. Any student who successfully passes the course will be eligible to order the boating safety certification card, which costs $15.

  DATE SET FOR ROMBAUER CEMETERY ANNUAL BOARD MEETING

  The date has been set for the annual board meeting for Rombauer Cemetery.

  BUTLER COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR PIPE REPLACEMENT

  Route 142 in Butler County will be closed today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a pipe under the roadway.

Work is scheduled to be performed from 8 am to 1 pm.

WILLIAMSVILLE WOMAN ARRESTED ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE FELONY

  A Williamsville woman has been taken into custody in Butler County on a felony charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 36 year old Jana Drennan was arrested at around 4:30 pm Monday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Drennan is also facing a charge of possession of under 10 grams of marijuana. Following the arrest, she was held at the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

  TWO PUPPIES REPORTEDLY THROWN FROM VEHICLE IN THE KENNETT AREA

  The Kennett Humane Department says that one puppy has been euthanized while another is in critical condition after they were thrown out of the window of a moving vehicle.

According to a post on the Humane Department’s Facebook page, a man travelling on the same road saw the incident happen and took the two dogs to the Kennett Veterinary Clinic.

No information was available about the vehicle that the puppies were in.

  TEENAGER FLOWN TO ST. LOUIS HOSPITAL FOLLOWING ATV WRECK NEAR CHAFFEE

  A Chaffee teenager has been flown to a St. Louis hospital following an ATV wreck Sunday afternoon.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the wreck occurred at around 3 pm Sunday near Chaffee. A 17 year old boy was driving an ATV which failed to negotiate a curve, struck a concrete culvert, and overturned, ejecting both the driver and a 16 year old passenger.

The 16 year old girl was seriously injured and taken by helicopter to Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis. The driver suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a Cape Girardeau hospital.

  POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCIL TO HOLD MEETING TONIGHT

  The Poplar Bluff City Council will be holding a meeting tonight at the City Council Chambers.

Some of the items to be discussed include a proposed ordinance amending the Union Contract for the Fire Department as well as a review of a petition for the creation of a Sycamore Street Community Improvement District located on the east side of Poplar Bluff.

The council is also set to vote on multiple items including an ordinance authorizing the Mayor to execute an agreement between the City and MoDot relative to the Poplar Bluff Trails Project and an ordinance authorizing the disposal of antiquated equipment.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 pm tonight.

  STODDARD COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR PIPE REPLACEMENT

  Route OO in Stoddard County will be closed today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a culvert pipe under the roadway.

The work zone will be located between Route 25 and County Road 307.

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 8 am to 3:30 pm.

  OVER THREE MONTH LONG PAVEMENT PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY

  An over three month long pavement repair project is scheduled to begin today in Stoddard County.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, eastbound Route 60 in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane with a 14 foot width restriction from 6 am to 6 pm daily through Thursday, June 1st.

The work zone is located from Route F to County Road 717. The on and off ramps at Route AD, One Mile Road, and Route 25 will also be impacted.

MAN KILLED AFTER HITTING TREE IN BUTLER COUTNY

  An area man died Saturday following a wreck in Butler County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by 78 year old Bobby Elledge, of Wappapello, ran off the side of Route M Saturday afternoon and struck a tree.

Elledge was later pronounced dead at a Kennett hospital.

MAN ARRESTED ON MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE FOLLOWING PEDESTRIAN DEATH

  An arrest has been made following to an incident last Friday where a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle near Puxico.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 39 year old Wesley Faries, of Puxico, was arrested Saturday on a felony charge of 1st degree involuntary manslaughter.

Faries was allegedly driving the vehicle that struck 21 year old Phillip Manning, of Sikeston, early Friday morning. Manning was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have also arrested 76 year old Garey Faries, of Puxico, on charges of making a false police report and hindering the prosecution of a felony.

  AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATING ARMED ROBBERY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

  Authorities in New Madrid County are investigating a reported armed robbery at an area business.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, on Sunday deputies were dispatched to BJ’s Travel Center in Kewanee for a report of an armed robbery.

Investigators learned that a black male had entered the store shortly before 5 am, displayed a hand gun, and demanded money. The suspect also reportedly pointed the hand gun at employees during the incident.

The suspect left the business in an undetermined vehicle with no known direction of travel. The suspect is described as a black male, who was wearing a black hoodie, black tennis shoes, a mask, and jeans.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK NEAR HARVIELL

  A Poplar Bluff man has been taken to an area hospital following a single vehicle wreck early Saturday morning.

According to authorities, 24 year old Joshua Gill was driving on County Road 330, near Harviell, when his vehicle ran off the side of the road, struck a ditch and tree, and overturned.

Gill suffered serious injuries in the wreck was taken by Air Evac to a Cape Girardeau hospital.

  KENNETT MAN ALLEGEDLY ATTEMPTED TO FLEE FROM POLICE ON A BICYCLE

  A Kennett man has been taken into custody after he allegedly attempted to flee from police on Friday.

Officials with the Kennett Police Department tell KWOC News that officers had attempted to arrest 28 year old Cody Conder when he resisted the arrest and attempted to flee on a bicycle.

He was subdued and arrested for resisting arrest and an outstanding Dunklin County warrant for a probation violation on the original charge of stealing.

Following the arrest, Conder was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center.

  POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON METH CHARGE IN BUTLER COUNTY

A Poplar Bluff man is facing a felony meth charge following his arrest Friday night.

According to the Highway Patrol, 54 year old Keven Foster was arrested in Butler County on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance for methamphetamine and buprenorphine.

Following the arrest, Foster was held at the Butler County Jail.

  DEXTER MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE WARRANT

  Authorities in Stoddard County say a Dexter man has been taken into custody on a controlled substance warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 28 year old Kelly Cagle Jr. was recently arrested on warrants for possession of a controlled substance and probation violation.

The bond on the controlled substance warrant was set at $20,000 cash.

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK AND KILLED BY VEHICLE IN STODDARD COUNTY

  A pedestrian has died after he was struck by a vehicle early this morning in Stoddard County.

Officials with the Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the incident occurred at around 12:20 am on Missouri Highway 51 near Puxico.

A vehicle was travelling south on Highway 51 when it struck 21 year old Phillip Manning, of Sikeston, who was reportedly in the roadway.

Manning was pronounced dead at the scene by Stoddard County Coroner Kenny Pope.

  SIKESTON MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER WARRANT

  Authorities in Stoddard County say a Sikeston man has been taken into custody on an involuntary manslaughter warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 23 year old Trent McMillan was recently arrested on a warrant for two counts of 2nd degree involuntary manslaughter.

Additional details about the warrant were not available.

McMillan’s bond was set at $25,000 and officials say he has bonded out.

  BROSELEY MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY RESISTING ARREST CHARGE

  A Broseley man was taken into custody Thursday afternoon on a felony resisting arrest charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 29 year old Craig Matthews was arrested yesterday in Butler County on a felony charge of resisting arrest by fleeing as well as misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following the arrest, Matthews was held in the Butler County Jail.

  VEHICLE SEARCH LEADS TO ARREST OF THREE IN KENNETT

  A vehicle search in Kennett earlier this week has resulted in the arrest of three people.

Officials with the Kennett Police Department tell KWOC News that officers had made contact with the driver of a truck on Tuesday after observing the vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit.

At that time officers noticed a strong odor of what appeared to be marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officers conducted a search and located narcotics as well as drug paraphernalia.

According to officials, John Bradley, Kay Chaffin, and Joe Walker, all of Kennett, were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and they were transported to the Dunklin County Jail.

TWO ARRESTED ON METH CHARGE IN BUTLER COUNTY

  Authorities say that two people were taken into custody Wednesday morning in Butler County on a felony meth charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 37 year old Shaun Porch and 21 year old Zach Davis, both of Poplar Bluff, were each arrested shortly before 9 am Wednesday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Following their arrest, both Porch and Davis were held at the Butler County Jail.

  TWO ST. LOUIS MEN FACING FIREARM CHARGE OUT OF WAYNE COUNTY

  Two St. Louis men are facing a felony gun charge following their arrest Wednesday afternoon in Wayne County.

According to the Highway Patrol, 34 year old Derick Edwards and Markell McCottrel were each arrested shortly after 2 pm on a felony charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.

Both men were transported to the Wayne County Jail following their arrest.

  BUTLER COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT ENCOURAGES RESIDENTS TO GET A FLU VACCINE

  With flu spreading through many schools and workplaces in Southeast Missouri, the Butler County Health Department is reminding local residents to get a flu vaccine.

According to the Health Department, the CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting against flu viruses and everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine.

If you do end up with the flu, try to stay home from work, school, and errands if possible. Also cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. This will help prevent spreading your illness to others.

The Health Department says that washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. Keeping your hands clean through improved hand hygiene is one of the most important steps you can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. Many diseases and conditions are spread by not washing hands with soap and clean, running water.

  POPLAR BLUFF STUDENTS TO GET FOUR DAY WEEKEND

  Students in Poplar Bluff are getting ready for a four day weekend, however unlike other area school closures, this is not due to the flu.

According to Superintendent Scott Dill, Poplar Bluff R-I Schools will not be in session on Friday for a teacher collaboration day. School will also be out on Monday for the Presidents’ Day holiday.

Dill says the regular class schedule will resume on Tuesday, February 21st.

  DATES SET FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENING AND KINDERGARTEN ENROLEMENT AT TWIN RIVERS

  The dates have been set for early childhood screening and kindergarten enrolment in the Twin Rivers R-10 School District.

The events will be held from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm on Tuesday, March 14th at the Fisk Middle School and Tuesday, March 21st at the Qulin Middle School.

Parents should bring their children, from three months to five years of age that are not yet in kindergarten, for the screening.

Children enrolling in Kindergarten will need three items proving residency. Each child should also have immunization records, a birth certificate, and social security card.

  OVER TWO WEEK LONG REPAIR PROJECT UNDERWAY ON INTERSTATE 55 IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

  An over two week long pavement repair project is underway on Interstate 55 in Southeast Missouri.

According to MoDot, Northbound I-55 in Pemiscot County will be reduced with a 14-ft. width restriction as contractor crews perform the repairs two miles north and south of the Route 164 interchange.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 am to 6 pm daily through Saturday, March 4th.

NAMES RELEASED OF THREE ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO DRUG SEIZURE

  Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, authorities have released the names of three people that were arrested in connection to an investigation that included the arrest of Nicholas Kemp in Poplar Bluff.

According to the Corning Police Department, shortly before 3:30 pm on Sunday, officers with the Corning Police Department along with Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller and Clay County Deputies executed a search warrant which resulted in the discovery of 75 grams of crystal meth and three firearms, along with drug paraphernalia.

Kevin Hensley, Gregory Hampton, and Chelsey Elenburg, all of Corning, were arrested and face charges including simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of methamphetamine with purpose to deliver, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  RIPLEY COUNTY R-4 CANCELS CLASSES FOR THIS WEEK

  Sacred Heart is not the only school in our area that will be out today.

The Ripley County R-4 school district has cancelled classes for the rest of this week because of illness. Students will return to school on February 21st.

Earlier this week, Sacred Heart School in Poplar Bluff announced that they will be out today due to illness and flu.

  DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON BURGLARY AND ASSAULT WARRANT

  A Dexter man has been taken into custody on a burglary and assault warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 25 year old Matthew Sherfield was recently arrested on a warrant for 1st degree burglary, 1st degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of possession of marijuana.

Sherfield’s bond was set at $15,000 and he reportedly remained in jail as of this morning.

  WRESTLER AND BAKETBALL PLAYER NAMED POPLAR BLUFF ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

  A wrestler and a basketball player have been chosen as the Poplar Bluff High School athletes of the month for January.

The Mules Booster Club has named wrestler Tanner Dunivan and basketball player Savannah Hicks for the honor.

Dunivan, a junior, has a 38-6 record. He placed first at the Rockwood Summit and SEMO Conference last month, and was a state qualifier for the past two years.

Hicks recently underwent open-heart surgery after a murmur was discovered during her sports physical, and returned to the court after just six weeks of recovery. She scored 15 points in eight games and maintained straight A's in the classroom.

  CLARKTON WOMAN IN CUSTODY ON CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE WARRANT

  Authorities in Stoddard County tell KWOC News that a Southeast Missouri woman is in custody on a controlled substance warrant.

39 year old Laticia Ussery, of Clarkton, was recently arrested on a warrant for distribution of a controlled substance.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, Ussery remained in jail as of this morning and her bond has been set at $20,000.

  MODOT CREWS TO BE IN WAYNE COUNTY FOR PIPE REPLACEMENT

  Route U in Wayne County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a pipe under the roadway.

The section of roadway to be reduced is located near the intersection of Route B and Route U.

Work is scheduled to be performed today from 7:30 am to 3 pm.

MULTIPLE PEOPLE ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO SEIZURE OF OVER 300 GRAMS OF METHAMPHETAMINE IN POPLAR BLUFFA search of a Poplar Bluff motel room on Sunday led to the seizure of over 300 grams of methamphetamine.

KWOC News spoke with Detective Scott Phelps with the Poplar Bluff Police Department about the seizure.

SCOTT PHELPS:

On Sunday morning at about 7:30 a.m. Officer Tubb with the Poplar Bluff Police Department was on the parking lot of Super 8 Motel checking for stolen vehicles. He observed a vehicle, ran the plate, and discovered that that plate on the vehicle had been recently reported stolen. He also observed a guy looking out the window of the hotel which was the window directly behind that car. A short time later Sergeant Ward arrived at Super 8 motel and at that time two men stepped out of the north exit door of the hotel and they were contacted by Officer Tubb and Sergeant Ward. After Officer Tubb followed Kemp back to the hotel room Kemp was in possession of a Crown Royal bag and when they got back to the room he laid it on the bed and covered it with a jacket. During Officer Tubb’s conversation with Kemp he informed him that he did have a weapon on him. at that time Officer Tubb took the weapon from him, rendered it safe, and then with a consent search looked in the Crown Royal bag that previously was on Kemp’s person and discovered 353.8 grams of methamphetamine. There was around four hundred and something dollars also. The narcotics seized by Officer Tubb have a street value of around $35,000. After the narcotics and gun were located by Officer Tubb, the room was secured at which time I applied for search warrant, received a search warrant, during the search warrant, additional paraphernalia was located in room. An interview I conducted with Kemp also led to another search warrant being served in Corning, Arkansas where an additional 70 grams or 75 grams of methamphetamine was located and an additional 3 weapons. Three other individuals are taken into custody in Arkansas. The subject arrested at the Super 8 Motel was Nicholas Kemp 35 years old from Neelyville, who was being charged with drug trafficking felony drug paraphernalia and unlawful use of a weapon he has $100,000 cash only bond. He's currently being held at the Butler County Justice Center.

Poplar Bluff Police Chief Danny Whiteley commended officers in Poplar Bluff as well as Northeast Arkansas for their roles in the investigation.

DANNY WHITELEY:

First of all I want to complement the two officers Tubb and Ward on doing a follow-up on what was just kind of a routine call out there. Had they not initiated this it would have not gotten anywhere. Myself and Detective Phelps contacted The Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller, and Arkansas Detective at Corning Sergeant Chris King. They were extremely helpful and cooperated extremely well with us as we went to Arkansas, they can talk to you about the search warrant down there, but when we have drugs trafficking between Poplar Bluff, Corning, Jonesboro, St Louis, and so forth if you don't have people that are willing to throw in and help you it's going to be a problem for everybody. I just can't say enough good things about how we were received down there and the professionalism in those two departments. As I've said in the past you may sneak around up here in Poplar Bluff for a while but we know who the majority of you are, we will come and get you, we will put you in prison. So if you choose to come to Poplar Bluff do so at your own risk.

We have spoken with Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller who says that more arrests are expected with this case.

MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING ALLEGED BEATING IN CLAY COUNTY Authorities in Clay County say a man has been arrested in connection to an alleged beating last week.

According to Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller, On February 6th, Clay County Deputies responded to a caller who stated that she had been taken against her will and beaten. The victim advised officers that her attacker had passed out and she was able to get away and use a neighbor’s phone.

Deputies later located 33 year old Joshua Hurte, of Nimmons. Hurte reportedly became very aggressive and disorderly and was taken into custody.

Hurte is being charged with 2nd degree domestic battery, 1st degree false imprisonment, and two counts of 1st degree terroristic threatening. His bond was set at $100,000.

SACRED HEART SCHOOL TO MISS ADDITIONAL DAYS THIS WEEK DUE TO ILLNESS Illness is once again running through Southeast Missouri schools and Sacred Heart in Poplar Bluff has announced they will have to miss additional days this week.

According to a post on the school’s Facebook page, more students were out Monday due to illness and flu than they had last week.

Officials say that Sacred Heart Preschool through 8th grade will not be in session today or Wednesday. As of right now, classes are set to resume on Thursday.

TWO CHARGED WITH FELONY MURDER IN CONNECTION TO ONE YEAR OLD’S DEATH Two people have been charged with felony murder in connection to the investigation of a one year old child’s death.

According to Sergeant Broom with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, shortly before 2 pm on Sunday, Sikeston DPS received a call of a one year old child not breathing.

Upon arrival, first responders found the boy unresponsive and not breathing. They immediately began CPR and transported him to the emergency room where he was pronounced dead.

Medical staff reportedly located injuries and bruising consistent with child abuse on the child’s body along with some type of foreign substance inside the child’s mouth.

The mother, 23 year old Kayla Williamson, of Sikeston, and her boyfriend, 31 year old Louis Hollis, also of Sikeston, have been arrested and charged with child abuse, endangering the welfare of a child, and felony murder through Scott County circuit court.

ARRESTS MADE IN CONNECTION TO CARUTHERSVILLE CLUB SHOOTING Two arrests have been made in connection to a weekend shooting that left one person dead in Caruthersville.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a total of six people were shot and one injured during the incident early Sunday morning at Club Envy. Later on Sunday, Freddie Rodgers, Jr., succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

On Monday, authorities arrested Travis Ware II (the second). He has been charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action.

Authorities have also arrested Anton Jones in connection to the shooting.

DELAYS SET FOR THIS WEEK ON ROUTE 25 IN DUNKLIN COUNTY Route 25 in Dunklin County will be reduced to one lane this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews trim trees along the roadway.

The section of roadway to be reduced is located between County Road 406 and County Road 402.

Weather permitting; work will take place today through Thursday from 7 am to 3:30 pm, daily.
