MULES FOOTBALL KICKS OFF REGULAR SEASON TONIGHT AGAINST JEFFERSON CITY
Friday Night Lights returns to Poplar Bluff tonight.
The Poplar Bluff Mules will host Jefferson City tonight, with kickoff set for 7 pm. It will be the first game for each team this season.
The Mules went 3-7 in the regular season last year before falling to Fox in the Class 5, District 1 QuarterFinals. The Jays finished the 2025 campaign with a 4-6 record.
Today’s Talk KWOC 93.3 FM and 930 AM will be providing live coverage of the game over the radio as well as video coverage on the Today’s Talk KWOC Facebook page and the River Radio Youtube page.
SECURITY UPDATES CONTINUE FOR POPLAR BLUFF ATHLETIC EVENTS
With the new football season starting tonight, Poplar Bluff school officials are reminding attendees that the district is continuing to phase in new security procedures.
Officials say that all spectators will be required to pass through metal detectors while entering the event. Only clear bags, small clutch wallets, and diaper bags will be allowed to be brought in.
Also, attendees will not be allowed to re enter the facility once they leave.
There will also be no outside food, drinks, or coolers allowed in the facility.
LATE SUMMER HEAT WAVE COULD SEE HEAT INDEX READINGS EXCEED 100 DEGREES NEXT WEEK
Even though the school year has begun, summer is not quite over yet.
The National Weather Service in Paducah is forecasting a late summer heatwave for next week, with temperatures reaching the mid to possible upper 90s.
Officials say that humidity levels are forecast to be lower than previous heatwaves, however actual temperatures may be amongst the hottest we have experienced this year.
Heat index readings are forecast to exceed 100 degrees starting on Tuesday, and may continue through later in the week.
12TH ANNUAL RIDE FOR A CURE TO BE HELD THIS WEEKEND
The 12th Annual Ride for a Cure Dice Run in memory of Larry Maronay is this weekend.
Registration for the event will begin at 10 am on Saturday at the Dexter Elks Lodge, with the ride beginning at 11 am. The entry fee is $20 per bike and $10 for an additional rider with a meal included at the end of the ride.
All proceeds will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

ROAD CREWS TO BE WORKING OVER THE NEXT MONTH ON ROUTE K IN PEMISCOT COUNTY
Construction crews will be performing an asphalt overlay on Route K in Pemiscot County over the next month.
Officials say that Route K will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction from Interstate 55 to County Road 285 near Bragg City for the project.
Flaggers will be present, and traffic will be guided through the work zone by a pilot car.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Monday, September 28th.
ASPHALT OVERLAY TO CAUSE DELAYS ON ROUTE M IN PEMISCOT COUNTY
