AT LEAST 29 MORE SCHOOLS IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI TO BEGIN SCHOOL YEAR TODAY
School opening week in Southeast Missouri continues today with at least 29 more schools welcoming back students.
The school year will begin today for kids in the Twin Rivers, Neelyville, Doniphan, Malden, Holcomb, Kennett, and Campbell school districts, among others.
At least nine more schools will start on Wednesday, including Dexter, Van Buren, Puxico, and Bloomfield.

PARAGOULD MAN CHARGED WITH FOUR COUNTS OF RAPE IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS
A man has been charged with multiple counts of rape in Northeast Arkansas.
According to a warrant affidavit, earlier this month, Paragould Police received a hotline report from the Arkansas Child Abuse Hotline regarding a juvenile.
The victim disclosed that the potential defendant forced them to perform a sexual act on multiple occasions.
Officials say that 30 year old Steele Ipock, of Paragould, has been taken into custody on four counts of rape. He is being held in the Greene County Jail on a one million dollar bond.
POPLAR BLUFF MAN FLOWN TO CAPE GIRARDEAU HOSPITAL AFTER STRIKING FALLEN TREE
A Poplar Bluff man was flown to an area hospital over the weekend after his vehicle struck a fallen tree in Butler County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the 62 year old man was driving near Wappapello on Missouri Highway KK Saturday night, when his vehicle struck a tree that had fallen across the roadway.
The man suffered serious injuries in the crash and was flown to a Cape Girardeau hospital.
ALLIGATOR GAR RESTORATION EFFORTS CONTINUE IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
The Missouri Department of Conservation are continuing efforts to reintroduce the alligator gar fish to Southeast Missouri.
The MDC’s alligator gar stocking program began in 2007 at Mingo National Wildlife Refuge and has grown to extend throughout the area.
Officials say that restoration efforts have been sporadic but ongoing across the Bootheel since 2013, with more than 6,000 juvenile alligator gar being stocked in over a dozen locations, including Wilhelmina Conservation Area in Butler and Dunklin Counties, as well as Donaldson Point Conservation Area in New Madrid County.
Alligator gar may appear rough and dangerous, but they are an important part of our ecosystem. The species prefers to consume injured or sick fish that are easy to ambush.
MDC Officials say that this important service helps maintain the health of waterbodies and sport fish populations.
It is important to remember that alligator gar are protected by state law and cannot be possessed or killed. The younger fish may be confused for the more common shortnose gar, so proper identification is important.

OVER MONTH LONG ASPHALT OVERLAY PROJECT UNDERWAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY
Route Z in Dunklin County will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction over the next month so construction crews can perform an asphalt overlay.
The section of roadway being reduced is located from Route 412 to County Road 512 in Kennett.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Monday, September 28th.
As construction is underway, flaggers will be present, and traffic will be guided through the work zone by a pilot car.
ROAD CREWS TO BE WORKING OVER THE NEXT MONTH ON ROUTE Y IN PEMISCOT COUNTY
Construction crews will be performing an asphalt overlay on Route Y in Pemiscot County over the next month.
Officials say that Route Y will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction from I-155 to County Road 553 near Caruthersville for the project.
Flaggers will be present, and traffic will be guided through the work zone by a pilot car.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Monday, September 28th.
