POPLAR BLUFF MAN KILLED IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS CRASH
One person has died, while another was injured, in connection to a single vehicle crash from earlier this week.
According to the Arkansas State Police, U’riel Aranza, of Poplar Bluff, was driving on US Highway 67 in Clay County Monday night when his vehicle ran off the road, struck a ditch embankment and a tree, before coming to rest on its side in a creek bed.
Officials say that Aranza died from injuries he received in the crash.
A passenger in the vehicle, 23 year old Shelby Lutes, of Sikeston, was injured and transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.
KENNETT MAN DIES FROM INJURIES RECEIVED IN A SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH
A Kennett man has died from injuries he received in a Tuesday evening crash.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 50 year old Clarkton man was driving on Route EE, north of Kennett, when his vehicle ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree.
The passenger, identified as a 52 year old Kennett man, was transported to a Pemiscot County hospital where he was pronounced dead later on Tuesday.
The driver suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital.
EXTREME HEAT WARNING TO GO INTO EFFECT TODAY FOR MOST OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
Dangerously hot conditions are continuing today in Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas.
Officials with the National Weather Service in Paducah tell KWOC News that an extreme heat warning will be in effect from 11 am today through 8 pm on Sunday for most of Southeast Missouri.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the Extreme Heat Warning for the Missouri Bootheel and Northeast Arkansas remains in effect through 8 pm Friday.
Officials say that hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat index values to reach around 110 degrees or higher.
Officials say that heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
Remember to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and out of the sun if possible, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
ARKANSAS STATE POLICE INVESTIGATING AFTER BODY FOUND NEAR A CHURCH
Officials with the Arkansas State Police say that an investigation is underway after a man was found dead Tuesday afternoon.
Shortly after 3 pm on Tuesday, the Hoxie Police Department received a report of a body on property adjacent to a parking lot at People’s Faith Tabernacle Church, located on Sullens Road.
The victim, identified as 34 year old James Frey, of Salem, was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where the cause and manner of death will be determined.
The Hoxie Police Department has requested that Special Agents with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division investigate the death. Officials say that no additional information is being released at this time.
POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT SPLASH TOUR TO BE IN HENDRICKSON PARK TODAY
With Poplar Bluff getting hotter and hotter, the PB Fire Department will be out today to help area kids stay cool.
The PBFD Splash Tour will be at Hendrickson Park this afternoon from 4 to 6 pm, spraying water for kids to run through and cool off.
Attendees should remember to bring a towel and wear clothes that you don’t mind getting wet.
The Splash Tour is a joint event between the Poplar Bluff Fire Department, IAFF Local 2543, and the city of Poplar Bluff.
POPLAR BLUFF PARKS AND RECREATION TO HOST FLAG FOOTBALL THIS FALL
Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation is accepting applications for a youth flag football league this fall.
According to officials, there will be a flag football league from September 5th through October 10th. There will be two divisions, one for 1st and 2nd graders and the other for 3rd and 4th graders.
The cost is $20 per child to register.

KENNETT SCHOOL DISTRICT TO HOST BACK TO SCHOOL BASH THIS AFTERNOON
Kennett school officials have announced a special event for today to get families ready for the new school year.
School supplies and community resources will be available during the Kennett School District Back to School Bash from 3 to 6 pm this afternoon at the FEMA Building on West Washington Street in Kennett.
There will be free school supplies, food, games, giveaways, and activities at the event.
