BUTLER COUNTY VOTERS TO DECIDE BETWEEN LISA LARMIE AND TRAVIS GOWEN FOR RECORDER OF DEEDS NOMINATION
Continuing our Primary election coverage with a look at Butler and Pemiscot Counties.
In Butler County, Republicans will head to the polls to choose who will win the nomination for Recorder of Deeds, Lisa Larmie or Travis Gowen.
In Pemiscot County, there is a question of whether the Pemiscot County R-III School District and the Cooter R-IV School District should form a new district.
Cooter citizens will also be voting on a city sales tax of one percent and a local use tax at the same rate as the local sales tax.
There are two propositions in Wardell, one would impose a three percent sales tax on all retail sales of adult use marijuana. The second proposition would impose a fee of seven dollars per month on every utility customer of the City for mosquito abatement purposes.
MISSOURIANS WILL VOTE ON FOUR CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS TOMORROW
Four amendments to the Missouri Constitution will be on the ballot during the state primary tomorrow.
Constitutional amendment one would continue the one-tenth of one percent sales/use tax that is used for soil and water conservation and for state parks and historic sites.
Constitutional amendment two would require that all charter counties, including Jackson County, elect a county assessor and that such assessors comply with training requirements established by state law.
Constitutional amendment four would require a majority of voters in each congressional district to approve initiative petitions to amend the constitution rather than a simple statewide majority of voters.
Constitutional amendment five would require legislative phase-out and elimination of the individual state income tax based on revenue growth, and authorize the expansion of sales and use taxes; curtail constitutional limits on taxing goods and services; and require local tax rate cuts without reducing school funding if local sales tax revenue increases
BUTLER COUNTY WARNING SIRENS TO BE TESTED TODAY
Don’t be surprised if you hear sirens today in Butler County.
According to the Butler County Emergency Management Agency, the Poplar Bluff and Butler County outdoor warning sirens are scheduled to be tested today at noon.
Officials say that the tests will be conducted every month on the first Monday.
TWO VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY LEAVES ONE PERSON DEAD, EIGHT OTHERS INJURED
One person is dead and numerous others injured following a two vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in Stoddard County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when a vehicle failed to yield to another vehicle at the intersection of Highways Y and N near Bell City.
A passenger in the first vehicle, identified as a 53 year old woman, from Benton, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the first vehicle suffered serious injuries and was flown to a regional hospital.
Two more passengers in the first vehicle, along with five people in the second vehicle, received moderate injuries in the crash and were all transported by ambulance to an area hospital.
HEAD ON COLLISION NEAR DONIPHAN KILLS TWO
Two people have died in connection to a crash Saturday morning in the Doniphan area.
Officials tell KWOC News that one vehicle struck another head-on three miles west of Doniphan on US Highway 160. The crash occurred at around 7:45 am Saturday morning.
The driver of one of the vehicles, identified as a 40 year old Doniphan man, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 50 year old male passenger in the vehicle was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital where he was also pronounced dead.
The driver of the other vehicle was flown to a Memphis hospital with serious injuries.
TWO MEN ARRESTED BY US MARSHALS FUGITIVE TASK FORCE IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS
Two men were arrested by the US Marshals Fugitive Task force last week in Northeast Arkansas.
According to Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole, task force officers alerted the Sheriff’s Department that they had their fugitive in custody along with another subject. They also advised they had found illegal drugs in their vehicle. 34 year old Tanner Turner, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested on a fugitive warrant out of Butler County.
Officers also arrested 67 year old Jacky White, of Lafe. Both White and Turner are facing new charges of possession of meth or cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A later search of White’s residence resulted in authorities locating several firearms, a large amount of illegal drugs, and a small meth lab.
FATAL SHOOTING UNDER INVESTIGATION IN CARUTHERSVILLE
The Caruthersville Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting and found a man suffering from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was identified as 33 year old Adrin Hunt of Caruthersville.
Officers immediately began lifesaving efforts, which were continued by emergency medical personnel. Despite those efforts, Hunt was pronounced deceased.
The Caruthersville Police Department is being assisted in the investigation by the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control.
No additional information is being released at this time as the investigation remains active.
