A coalition of businesses is working to expand access to maternal care in rural Southeast Missouri.
Aetna Better Health of Missouri is collaborating with the GMHRC, a nonprofit organization supported by Mission Mobile Medical, and Missouri Highlands Health Care to launch and operate a mobile health unit.
The clinic will deliver women’s care services and connection to prenatal, postpartum, primary care and maternal mental health services to communities facing barriers to care. The clinic will be staffed by a health care provider and deliver services to all members of the community, regardless of insurance status.
A ribbon cutting event for the new mobile health unit was held Tuesday at Missouri Highlands Health Care in Poplar Bluff.
The clinic will begin scheduling patients on June 29th at a launch event located at Town and Country Grocery in Piedmont. The launch event will be open to the public and attendees will have the opportunity to tour the clinic and receive educational materials focused on women’s, maternal and mental health.
The mobile clinic will regularly visit 10 locations over the next year across areas served by Missouri Highlands Health Care in Southeast Missouri. More information is available on the Missouri Highlands Health Care website.

MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION PROPOSES PERMITS FOR CAMPING ON MDC AREAS
The Missouri Department of Conservation is proposing requiring permits for camping on MDC areas.
The MDC manages about 1,000 conservation areas around the state with more than 320 offering free camping.
According to officials, campers and staff have noted an increasing number of problems involving compliance issues, safety concerns, and environmental impacts from vandalism, illegal activities, and illegal stays on camping areas.
To help better regulate and monitor activities on its camping areas, MDC is proposing requiring permits for camping on MDC areas.
MDC is recommending a $5 permit for up to five days and four nights of camping for a group of 10 people or fewer. Groups of more than 10 people would have to have a Special Use Permit and camping permit to camp on MDC areas.
Each person would be limited to three consecutive camping permits and six camping permits annually. No personal property may be left unattended longer than 24 hours at campsites or areas for camping purposes.
MDC is seeking public comments on the proposed camping regulations beginning July 16 at mdc.mo.gov.
