MSHP INVESTIGATING OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING IN SHANNON COUNTY

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating an officer involved shooting in Southeast Missouri.

According to Shannon County Sheriff Steven Hogan, on Monday, dispatch received a call from an individual who stated that they had been physically assaulted by a neighbor. The victim further stated that the suspect had threatened to kill law enforcement officers if they responded to the scene.

Once deputies and a state trooper arrived at the residence, they observed a male subject standing outside. Upon seeing law enforcement, the male ran inside the residence and shut the doors and windows.

The male then began yelling he had explosives and that he would kill law enforcement officers. Hogan says that a short time later, the male pointed a rifle at a deputy. The deputy then fired twice, striking the subject. Medical aid was rendered at the scene and the subject was taken to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Officers located four children and an adult female inside the residence. Investigators also determined the male subject had an active felony warrant from Tennessee for aggravated assault. The adult female also has an active felony warrant from Tennessee for aggravated burglary. Department of Social Services representatives took the children into protective custody.

Hogan says that the officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the MSHP’s Division of Drug and Crime Control.
