RIPLEY COUNTY FAIR BEGINS TODAY
The 50th Annual Ripley County Fair will kick off today.
Officials say that the fair will be held today through Saturday at the Ripley County Fairgrounds, south of Doniphan.
Multiple activities are planned for the four day event, including a beauty pageant, carnival, truck and tractor pull, bake sale, and more.

PB SCHOOL MESSAGES AVAILABLE THROUGH PARENTSQUARE APP
Poplar Bluff School officials are reminding parents about an app they can download to their phone to receive information about the school their child is attending.
According to officials, parents and guardians may now customize how they wish to receive important district messages by downloading the ParentSquare app, or by registering at ParentSquare.com.
By default, a digest will be emailed at the end of a given day - and patrons will continue to receive emergency text messages for events such as school closures.
If you are not receiving district announcements, contact the Registrar office by calling 573-785-4905 to ensure that your contact details are up to date in the student information system.
ROYAL REGISTRATION SET FOR NEXT WEEK IN TWIN RIVERS SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Twin Rivers School District will be holding a two day registration event for students next week.
Royal Registration is scheduled for noon to 6 pm on Tuesday, August 5th for students whose parent or guardian’s last name begins with A-K and Thursday, August 7th for students whose parent or guardian’s last name begins with L-Z. Both will be held at Twin Rivers High School in Broseley.
There will be booths set up to distribute student class schedules and allow students to have their school picture taken.

TWO IN CUSTODY IN CONNECTION TO SHOTS FIRED INVESTIGATION IN NEW MADRID COUNTY
Two Illinois residents have been taken into custody in New Madrid County in connection to a weekend shooting investigation.
According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, early Saturday morning officers with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety responded to a report of shots fired near the intersection of General George E Day Drive and Brunt Boulevard.
A driver reported that the suspects had opened fire on his vehicle. The vehicle sustained multiple bullet strikes; however, no injuries were reported.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, however two arrests have been made: 21 year old James Taylor Jr. and a 17 year old juvenile, both of Cairo, Illinois.
Officials say that Taylor has been charged through New Madrid County for assault 1st, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and property damage with a bond of $500,000 cash only. He is currently in custody in Alexander County Illinois Jail awaiting extradition.
The juvenile has been turned over to Illinois Juvenile authorities.
FOSTERADOPT CONNECT POPLAR BLUFF SETS GRAND RE-OPENING DATE FOR SAMMY’S WINDOW
A Poplar Bluff organization has set the re-opening date for a valuable resource for area foster families.
FosterAdopt Connect Poplar Bluff will be hosting open houses for the grand re-opening of Sammy’s Window from 10 to 11:30 am and 5:30 to 7 pm on Monday, August 4th. There will be cookies and punch available, as well as games and activities for the kids.
Sammy’s Window is a storefront where area foster families are able to shop for free.
Officials say that the shop will be open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday as well as from 9 am to noon on the 1st Saturday every month.

STATE OFFICIALS ONCE AGAIN REMIND RESIDENTS TO WATCH OUT FOR SCAM TEXTS
State officials are once again reminding area residents to be on the lookout for scam texts.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, if you get a text message posing as MoDOT or the Missouri Department of Revenue threatening you to pay now, whether it's for a toll fee or a traffic violation fee, it's a scam.
MoDOT will never solicit you to pay a toll or traffic violation fee.
