POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL OFFICIALS RELEASE BACK TO SCHOOL CHECKLIST FOR AREA PARENTS 

We are a little more than a month away from kids returning back to school across the area.

To help parents get ready for when the school year starts, Poplar Bluff School officials have released a new “Back to School Checklist.” 

Officials say the checklist provides a step-by-step guide to help parents navigate all the essential tasks for a successful start to the new school year. 

The checklist includes registration details, health preparations, communication tools, and suggestions for daily routines.

ESSEX MAN INJURED IN EARLY MORNING SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH 

An Essex man was injured early Saturday morning in a single vehicle crash. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 29 year old man was driving on Highway FF, shortly before 8 am, when his vehicle ran off the side of the roadway and overturned, ejecting the driver.

The man suffered serious injuries in the crash and was flown to a Memphis hospital.


BRIDGE MAINTENANCE PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF 

Northbound Business Route 67 in Butler County will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction beginning today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance.  

The section of roadway affected is located from Route 53 to 11th Street in Poplar Bluff.  

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Thursday. Officials say the work zone will remain in place until work is completed.


ELLINGTON MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGES IN REYNOLDS COUNTY 

An Ellington man has been taken into custody in Reynolds County on drug charges. 

According to an arrest report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 47 year old Jason Hampton was arrested Sunday evening on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance for methamphetamine. 

Wombles is also facing charges of possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Following the arrest, Hampton was held in the Reynolds County Jail, and has since been released.


CREWS TO PERFORM BRIDGE MAINTENANCE THIS WEEK IN NEW MADRID COUNTY 

Northbound Interstate 55 in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane with a 14-foot width restriction this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance.   

The bridge is located in between mile markers 50.5 and 51.2 near New Madrid.  

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Thursday.


MENARDS HOSTING FOOD DRIVE TO BENEFIT LOCAL FOOD PANTRY 

A Poplar Bluff area business is accepting food donations to be used in the community. 

The Poplar Bluff Menards is partnering with area food pantries by serving as a drop off location for donations through the end of this month. 

Menards also offers a wide variety of non-perishable food items that can be donated immediately in their grocery department, such as boxes of cereal and cans of soup.
