FEMA DEADLINE APPROACHING TO APPLY FOR INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE FROM MARCH STORMS

Homeowners in several Southeast Missouri counties are running out of time to apply for assistance from FEMA for damage they received in the storms this past March.

According to FEMA officials, homeowners and renters who were affected by the March 14th and 15th disaster in 18 counties, including Butler, Carter, Ripley, and Wayne, may be eligible.

The deadline to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance from that storm system is July 22nd.

You can still ask for additional assistance, as long as you submit an initial application before the deadline.

The fastest way to apply is at DisasterAssistance.gov. You may also apply by calling FEMA at 1-800-621-3362.

WORKER DIES AFTER ACCIDENT AT POPLAR BLUFF AREA BUSINESS

A worker has died following an accident at a Butler County business.

Butler County Coroner Jim Akers confirms to KWOC News that 72 year old Dale Rowe, of Dexter, fell off of a ladder while working on the HVAC system at the Taco John’s in Poplar Bluff at around noon on Friday.

Rowe, who is also the Assistant Chief of the Dexter Fire Department, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Akers says that while the investigation into the death is ongoing, no foul play is suspected at this time.

POPLAR BLUFF PARKS AND RECREATION TO HOST FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE THIS FALL

Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation is now accepting applications for a flag football camp and league this summer and fall.

According to officials, there will be a flag football camp for kids in 1st through 4th grade from July 28th through the 30th at Poplar Bluff High School.

League play will follow from September 6th through October 11th and there will be two divisions, one for 1st and 2nd graders and the other for 3rd and 4th graders.

The cost is $20 per child to register, which includes the camp, league play, a t-shirt and team jersey. Attendance at the camp is not mandatory to participate in the league.

Registration will be available through August 15th.

CULVERT REPLACEMENT TO FORCE CLOSURE OF ROAD IN DEXTER TODAY

Business 60 in Stoddard County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.

The section of roadway being closed is located from Ellare Lane to Smith Avenue in Dexter.

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

CORNING SCHOOL DISTRICT SCHEDULES BACK TO SCHOOL BASH FOR EARLY AUGUST

The Corning School District is preparing for their back to school bash in early August.

The event has been scheduled for 1 to 6 pm on Thursday, August 7th at Park Elementary Gym.

5TH ANNUAL L.O.L. WITH ADDIE SHOE AND SOCK GIVEAWAY SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 9TH

A footwear giveaway has been scheduled for this August in Poplar Bluff.

The 5th Annual L.O.L. (Live out Love) with Addie Shoe and Sock Giveaway will take place on Saturday, August 9th at Living Word Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff.

There will be free new and gently used shoes and socks for all ages available from 11 am to 2 pm.

PEMISCOT COUNTY ROAD SET TO BE CLOSED THIS WEEK

Route P in Pemiscot County will be closed for most of this week so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a culvert under the roadway.

The work zone is located from County Road 266 to Cleveland Street in Hayti.

Weather permitting, work will take place from from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through Thursday.
