POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL OFFICIALS RELEASE BACK TO SCHOOL CHECKLIST FOR AREA PARENTS

July has started which means kids will be returning to school before you know it.

To help parents get ready for when the school year starts, Poplar Bluff School officials have released a new “Back to School Checklist.”

Officials say the checklist provides a step-by-step guide to help parents navigate all the essential tasks for a successful start to the new school year.

The checklist includes registration details, health preparations, communication tools, and suggestions for daily routines.

POPLAR BLUFF BUDDY BALL TO HOST ENCHANTED FOREST BALL TONIGHT

Poplar Bluff Buddy Ball and PB Parks and Recreation will be hosting an Enchanted Forest Ball tonight.

Officials say the event is being held in honor of BuddyBall participants and friends in the community with mental, physical, and developmental disabilities. The event is open to anyone living with disabilities along with guests and their families.

The Ball is scheduled to begin at 5 pm at the Black River Coliseum. Tickets can be purchased for $20.

MAN FACING MULTIPLE CHARGES IN CONNECTION TO CRASH DURING PURSUIT IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

Updating a story we have been following for you, a Michigan man is facing multiple charges in connection to a pursuit over the weekend.

According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, deputies were involved in a pursuit that ended when the suspect vehicle was involved in a collision with a deputy.

Both the deputy and suspect involved in the crash were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries.

The suspect, identified as Maurice Hill, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, appeared in court on Monday and has been charged with assault 1st degree, aggravated fleeing a stop or detention, and two counts of armed criminal action.

Hill pleaded not guilty and his bond was set at $500,000, cash or surety.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on July 7th.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI CITY AWARDED GRANT TO EVALUATE ITS DRINKING WATER SYSTEM

A Southeast Missouri city will be receiving over $37,000 in grant money to help improve the city’s infrastructure.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $37,500 Drinking Water Engineering Report Grant to the city of Malden to evaluate its drinking water system.

Malden will use the funding to identify improvements needed to continue meeting drinking water quality standards and provide reliable water service.

BRIDGE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK ON INTERSTATE 55 IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

Southbound Interstate 55 in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge repairs

The bridge is located between mile markers 51 and 53 near Kewanee.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and tomorrow.

TWO MONTH PAVEMENT REPAIR PROJECT UNDERWAY NEAR LILBOURN

Route E in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction for two months so contractor crews can perform pavement repairs. 

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway being reduced is located from Route 114 near Morehouse to Route D near Lilbourn.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily through Friday, August 1.
