TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG ARREST IN STODDARD COUNTY
A man was taken into custody on multiple drug charges earlier this week in Stoddard County.
According to court documents, late Monday night a Stoddard County Deputy Sheriff conducted a traffic stop on Highway 60 for littering.
During the stop, the deputy located a can containing a black bag with a glass pipe, along with three plastic baggies which tested positive for methamphetamine.
According to Missouri Case Net, 26 year old Michael Grissom the 2nd, of East Prairie, was arrested on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance along with a misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was held in the Stoddard County Jail on a $50,000 cash or surety bond.

Multiple Poplar Bluff organizations teamed up for the second annual Downtown Strawman Competition this year.
Strawmen were placed on trees and light posts in Downtown Poplar Bluff and there is still time for you to make your voice heard for who will win the People’s Choice Award..

The 2025 Downtown Strawman Competition was put on by Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation, Poplar Bluff Municipal Library, Downtown Poplar Bluff, and the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce.
MULTIPLE NORTHEAST ARKANSAS COMMUNITIES CHOSEN FOR GRANT FUNDING
The Arkansas Department of Transportation has announced the award recipients for the 2025 Transportation Alternatives Program and Recreational Trails Program.
The TAP provides funding for programs and projects defined as “transportation alternatives” for pedestrians, bicyclists and other non-motorized forms of transportation.
In Northeast Arkansas, Paragould will get $500,000 for the 8-Mile Creek Trail project. Pocahontas was awarded $497,000 for the Black River Overlook Park Connector project.
A total of over $20 million dollars was split between 67 projects across Arkansas.
MENARDS HOSTING FOOD DRIVE TO BENEFIT LOCAL FOOD PANTRY
A Poplar Bluff area business is accepting food donations to be used in the community.
The Poplar Bluff Menards is partnering with area food pantries by serving as a drop off location for donations through the end of this month.
Menards also offers a wide variety of non-perishable food items that can be donated immediately in their grocery department, such as boxes of cereal and cans of soup.
2025 POPLAR BLUFF MASONIC YOUTH FATHER DAUGHTER BALL COMING THIS MONTH
An annual charity event has been scheduled for this month.
The 2025 Poplar Bluff Masonic Youth Father Daughter Ball will be held from 4:30 to 10 pm on Saturday, October 18th at the Black River Coliseum.
The event is open for everyone to attend and tickets are available at eventbrite.com.
There will also be a silent auction and dinner before the dance begins at 7 pm.
Proceeds from the Ball will go to support four different charities.
ANNUAL ELKS HOOP SHOOT SCHEDULED FOR DECEMBER
A date has been announced for the 2025 Elks Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest in Poplar Bluff.
Registration for the event will begin at 8:30 am on Saturday, December 13th at Poplar Bluff Middle School.
There is no charge to participate in the Hoop Shoot, which will be from 9 am to 11 am.
