PIEDMONT WOMAN KILLED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK 

A single vehicle wreck in New Madrid County has resulted in the death of a Piedmont woman.  

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred early Friday morning on New Madrid County Road 250.  

37 year old Heather Hicks was driving when her vehicle travelled off the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned.  

Hicks was reportedly not wearing a safety device and was ejected during the wreck.  

She was later pronounced dead at the scene by New Madrid County Coroner George DeLisle.

POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN FACING FELONY METH CHARGE FOLLOWING ARREST 

Authorities in Butler County have arrested a Poplar Bluff woman on a felony meth charge.  

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 50 year old Cynthia Dewberry was taken into custody Saturday night on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.  

Dewberry was also arrested on a charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.  

Following the arrest, she was held at the Butler County Jail.

BUTLER COUNTY FAIR TO BEGIN THIS WEEK 

We are less than a week away from the beginning of the 2019 Butler County Fair.  

The fair will be held this year from September 26th through September 28th.  

Events scheduled include the carnival, truck and tractor pulls, the Ag Olympics, and the Demolition Derby. 

There will also by the Little Miss and Mister Butler County Fair Pageant.

AREA MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES IN BUTLER COUNTY 

An area man is facing multiple charges following his arrest over the weekend.  

According to authorities, 54 year old David Hay, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested shortly after 9 am Saturday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.  

Hay is also facing other charges including possession of drug paraphernalia and no valid license.  

Following the arrest, he was held at the Butler County Jail.

DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED IN BUTLER COUNTY WRECK 

An area man was injured Saturday in a Butler County wreck. 

According to authorities, 39 year old Nick Searcy, of Poplar Bluff, was driving a vehicle on County Road 448 Saturday evening, when the vehicle ran off the side of the road and struck a tree.  

Searcy suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

AREA ORGANIZATION HONORED FOR KIDS PROGRAM 

An area organization has been honored for a program designed to help kids go to college.  

The Boys and Girls Club of Poplar Bluff received the 2019 Missouri Alliance Area Council Award for Outstanding Program at a Banquet in Springfield last week. 

Officials say the Boys and Girls Club was honored for its College Kids program that is conducted in partnership with Three Rivers College. 

The program was designed to help BGC students understand that a college education is something they can achieve and to help them develop a plan to become successful adults after they complete high school. 

There is no cost for students to participate in the program. BGC provides transportation, covers the cost of instructors, and pays for material fees, and Three Rivers waives the tuition fees for each student. 

To date, 12 BGC students have completed 16 courses for college credits. Of those students, eight are first generation college students.

WEEKEND EARTHQUAKE SHAKES SOUTHEAST MISSOURI 

A weekend earthquake shook parts of Southeast Missouri.  

According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 2.0 earthquake was recorded at 11:48 Saturday morning.  

The quake was centered around three and a half miles South Southwest of Lilbourn and had a depth of almost six miles.
