MISSOURI AND ARKANSAS OFFICIALS PREPARING FOR FLU SEASON

State officials in Missouri and Arkansas are getting ready for the upcoming flu season.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson is encouraging businesses to join the fight against the flu. Parson says that “Employers can take an active role in reducing the impact of flu by encouraging their employees to get a flu shot.”

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, the flu shot is recommended for everyone six months of age and older and is the best prevention against the flu. Flu shots are especially important for young children and adults aged 65 and older.

It can take up to two weeks after receiving the flu shot for flu antibodies to develop and become effective, so vaccination is encouraged before the end of October.

The Arkansas Department of Health will be providing flu vaccines across the state starting next week. Officials say that each county health unit in Arkansas will be hosting a mass flu vaccine clinic.
