OVER A TENTH OF AN INCH OF ICE POSSIBLE OVERNIGHT TONIGHT IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

An incoming weather system is bringing with it the possibility of over a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation overnight tonight in Southeast Missouri.

KWOC News spoke with Rick Shanklin, with the National Weather System about what we can expect tonight.

RICK SHANKLIN:

Based on the latest weather data were seeing, it does appear there is a significant risk of icing across Southeast Missouri tonight. We expect the precipitation to begin over spreading Southeast Missouri this evening beginning possibly by late afternoon even for points especially to the south and west of Poplar Bluff, and then over spreading all of Southeast Missouri this evening. We are expecting right now at least one to two tenths of an inch of ice accumulation across much of Southeast Missouri there definitely is some potential for even greater amounts but one to two tenths of an inch that’s enough to cause significant travel impacts for tonight and lasting into at least part of Wednesday and if we do see greater amounts, a quarter of an inch or greater, that could even potentially lead to some isolated power outages. So we’ll have to watch that very closely as this system continues to evolve. Basically it’s an area of low pressure setting up to our southeast and moisture feeding into our region beginning late today and tonight. The good news, the system will be moving out early Wednesday and we should see improving conditions throughout the day Wednesday.

Remember that you can check road conditions on the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Travelers Information Map at MoDOT.org or by using the MoDOT App.
