POPLAR BLUFF CHEERLEADERS RECEIVE BID TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Some Poplar Bluff students could soon be competing for a national championship.

The Poplar Bluff High School Competition Cheerleading team won the Medium Varsity Division of the Bootheel Classic this past weekend in Cape Girardeau.

Poplar Bluff Athletic Director Kent Keith says that the cheerleading team received a bid to the National High School Cheerleading Championships at Disney World in February.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG RELATED WARRANT

Officials in Stoddard County say that a Poplar Bluff man has been taken into custody on a drug related warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 26 year old Cody Fisher was recently arrested on a warrant for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.

Fisher’s bond was set at $12,500, cash only.

OZARK FOOTHILLS RECYCLING CENTER ACCEPTING USED CARDBOARD BOXES

With many people doing their Christmas shopping online, over the holidays you might find yourself with more cardboard boxes than you know what to do with.

According to the Ozark Foothills Recycling Center, a cardboard collection trailer will be placed within the Walmart Supercenter parking lot in Poplar Bluff from December 21st through January 4th.

Remember to save your Christmas cardboard shopping boxes, gift boxes, calendar backings, and other cardboard-based packaging, and deposit them in the recycling trailer, which will be available 24-hours a day during the collection period.

Officials are asking that people don’t put trash on the trailer.

FILING TO BEGIN TODAY FOR SEATS ON THE POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL BOARD

Filing is set to begin today for two seats on the Poplar Bluff Board of Education.

Officials say that filing for the two three year terms on the School Board will run from 8 am to 5 pm today through January 15th, while school is in session.

MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL OFFERING SUPPORT TO VICTIMS OF IMPAIRED DRIVERS

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is offering a program to help support victims of impaired drivers.

Lieutenant Colonel Eric Olson, acting superintendent of the Highway Patrol, says that the Filling a V.O.I.D. program has provided information, support, and assistance to victims and their families since 1997.

If you are a victim of an impaired driver, you can contact the Patrol’s civilian victim advocate or call the Crime Victim Hotline.

To utilize the Filling a V.O.I.D. civilian victim advocate and resources, go to the Patrol’s website and click on Programs/Services and choose the “Victims of Impaired Drivers” link. The advocate can help you understand the criminal justice process, address your concerns, and request information.

ROADWORK SET FOR THIS MORNING IN BUTLER COUNTY

Westbound Business 60 in Butler County will be reduced to one lane this morning so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform signal repairs.

Officials say the section of roadway to be reduced is located at Ninth Street.

Work is scheduled to be performed from 9 am to noon.
