TWO DEAD, THREE INJURED, IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS WRECK

Two people have died following a wreck Monday morning in Northeast Arkansas.

Officials with the Arkansas State Police tell KWOC News that a vehicle, driven by 61 year old Robert Martin, of Thayer, crossed the center line of Highway 67 in Lawrence County and struck another vehicle head on.

The wreck occurred at around 7:30 am Monday, north of Walnut Ridge.

Officials say that Martin died from injuries he received in the wreck, as did a minor passenger in the second vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle and two other minor passengers were injured and transported to area hospitals.

TEENAGER FLOWN TO ST. LOUIS HOSPITAL FOLLOWING WRECK NEAR ZALMA

A Southeast Missouri teenager was seriously injured in a wreck yesterday involving a four-wheeler.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 16 year old male from Zalma was driving the four-wheeler on Bollinger County Road 708 when he struck a vehicle.

The teen suffered serious injuries and was flown to a St. Louis hospital. No injuries were listed for the driver of the second vehicle.

OZARK FOOTHILLS REGIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION TO HOLD MEETINGS TO DISCUSS REMAINING FLOOD DAMAGE FROM LAST YEAR

The Ozark Foothill Regional Planning Commission has announced a series of meetings to discuss reaming damage from last year’s flooding.

Officials say that the Commission wants to learn about remaining housing and public infrastructure damage, as well as unmet housing and public infrastructure needs in the counties that received presidential disaster declaration DR-4317 due to the flooding disaster of 2017.

Area counties that received the disaster declaration include Butler, Carter, Reynolds, Ripley, and Wayne Counties.

The first meeting will be held Friday morning at 9 am in the Butler County Courthouse in Poplar Bluff.

Meetings are also scheduled for Monday, October 15th in Van Buren and Centerville. On Tuesday, October 16th, the final two meetings will be held in Doniphan and Greenville.

SMALL ENGINES DONATED TO HELP STUDENTS LEARN IN POPLAR BLUFF

An area business recently made a donation to the Poplar Bluff School District to assist agriculture students.

According to School Officials, Briggs and Stratton donated 30 small engines so students of the Poplar Bluff High School agriculture education program can gain hands-on experience.

Educators say that the four-cylinder engines will be disassembled and reassembled in the agriculture powers and agriculture mechanics classes for students to see how the pistons and the valves function.

OFFICIALS WARNING MOTORISTS TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR DEER

With fall upon us, Missouri officials are warning motorists to watch for deer.

Lieutenant Colonel Eric Olson, acting superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, tells KWOC News that deer are more active and create hazards for Missouri motorists at this time of year.

The majority of deer strike crashes occur in October and November each year, with the largest number taking place in November. Although deer strikes can occur at any time, most occur between the hours of 5 pm and 7 am.

Last year, drivers in Missouri experienced over 4,000 traffic crashes where deer-vehicle strikes occurred. One deer strike occurred almost every two hours in the state. In these crashes, there were seven fatalities and 400 people were injured.

BUTLER COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED FOR PIPE REPLACEMENT

Route HH in Butler County will be closed today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a pipe beneath the roadway.

The section of roadway to be closed is located from County Road 214 to County Road 350.

Work is scheduled to take place from 8 am to 3 pm.
