SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK CLAIMS LIFE OF BROSELEY MAN

A Broseley man was pronounced dead at the scene of a single vehicle wreck Thursday morning.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that 55 year old Terry Haley was driving on Missouri Highway 53 in Dunklin County when his vehicle ran off the side of the road, hit a tree, and overturned.

The wreck occurred at approximately 3:45 am Thursday morning, around one mile north of Route J.

Haley was pronounced dead at the scene by Dunklin County Coroner James Powell.

 

ONE KILLED, ANOTHER INJURED, IN MISSISSIPPI COUNTY WRECK

A Charleston woman was killed in a three vehicle wreck Thursday evening in Mississippi County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 37 year old Carter Adams, of Charleston, was driving on US 62 when his vehicle crossed the center line of the roadway and struck two vehicles before hitting a tree.

The driver of one of the vehicles that was struck, 26 year old Amber Johnson, of Charleston, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Adams suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a Cape Girardeau hospital.

 

POPLAR BLUFF TO FACE JONESBORO IN SHOWDOWN FINAL

The Championship Game has been set for the 31st Annual Poplar Bluff Basketball Showdown.

The Poplar Bluff Mules defeated Cordova on Thursday, 89 to 72 to advance to today’s final where they will take on defending champions Jonesboro High School. Jonesboro beat Christian Brothers High School on Thursday 76-65. The final between Poplar Bluff and Jonesboro will begin at around 7 pm.

The other games scheduled for the final day of the showdown will be the 3rd place game between Cordova and Christian Brothers at 5:30 pm, Fayetteville vs. Humboldt in the Consolation Championship at 4 pm and Bradley Tech vs. Christian County in the 7th place game at 2:30 pm.

 

BITTER COLD TEMPERATURES EXPECTED FOR NEW YEARS MORNING

The National Weather Service says that area citizens should be preparing for a cold New Year’s Day.

According to the NWS Office in Paducah, bitter cold wind chills are expected New Year's Eve night through New Year's Day. The forecast wind chill temperatures for New Year's morning in Southeast Missouri range from -5 degrees to -15 degrees.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE ASK FOR PUBLIC’S HELP IN LOCATING THEFT SUSPECT

Authorities in Poplar Bluff are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a theft suspect.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, on Tuesday officers responded to a location on Lynwood Lane in reference to a package theft.

The victim told officers that a package containing a mattress was stolen from her front porch on the evening of the 21st. The theft was captured on a security cam and we have a picture of the suspect available on the KWOC Facebook page.

Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is asked to contact Detective Mustain at 573-686-8632.

 

NORTHEAST ARKANSAS FIRE DEPARTMENT WARNS OF PHONE SCAM

A Northeast Arkansas fire department is warning area residents about a phone scam.

According to a post made on the Biggers-Reyno Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page, someone is calling local people and saying that the Fire Department needs money.

The caller will then attempt to convince the person to give out their bank account number.

The Fire Department says that this is a scam. Anyone who receives a call like this should contact their local law enforcement agency.
