Three area women made Missouri history Tuesday night.
Tierra Johnson, Laura Hagood, and Stefanie Tinsley became the 1st all female officiating crew to oversee a boys varsity basketball game in the state of Missouri when they officiated the matchup between Scott County Central and Zalma.
Johnson played at Three Rivers College and Southeast Missouri State University, Hagood played for TRC and was two time All-Region before going on to play at Murray State, and Tinsley was a stand out player at TRC.

CHARGES REQUESTED FOR FOUR SUSPECTS IN CONNECTION WITH FIGHT AT GIDEON HIGH SCHOOL
Updating a story we have been following for you, charges have been requested against four teenagers in connection to a fight at Gideon High School.
The fight occurred Friday night during a basketball tournament that was being held at the school.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, the fight started when a small group of individuals entered the school, paid admission, and immediately began to fight with students in line at the concession stand. The alleged instigators never entered the gymnasium nor were they participants in the events.
Officials say that there were no injuries and no weapons used in the altercation.
As a result of the investigation, a report has been filed with the New Madrid County Prosecutor's Office and the New Madrid County Juvenile Office. Charges are being requested on four suspects, ranging in age from 15 to 19. No names have been released.
Only one of the four suspects is currently attending a school that was involved in the event. The Hayti School District has taken disciplinary action against the student.
OZARK FOOTHILLS REGIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION TO HOST MEETING TONIGHT
Multiple topics will be discussed at a meeting of the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission.
The open meeting will begin at 6 pm tonight at the Planning Commission on Fair Street in Poplar Bluff.
The agenda will include the Transportation Advisory Committee report, Solid Waste Management; Ripley County Public Housing report; as well as new grants submitted and received.

STATE OFFICIALS MONITORING REPORTS OF SICK WATERFOWL ACROSS THE STATE
Waterfowl hunters in Missouri are asked to be extra cautious due to an outbreak of bird flu.
The Missouri Department of Conservation is monitoring reports of sick and dead waterfowl, such as geese and ducks, across the state. The Department is actively collecting birds to determine the cause of illness but suspects highly pathogenic avian influenza to be the cause.
Due to ongoing waterfowl hunting seasons, waterfowl hunters should dress game birds in the field whenever possible or at a location away from poultry or other birds. Hunters should also properly dispose of harvest waste by placing the remains in trash bags and disposing of them through trash collection or a permitted landfill.
Avian influenza does not present an immediate public health concern, though on rare occasions it has infected humans and other animals. It is safe to eat poultry and wild game as normal cooking temperatures are hot enough to kill the virus if present. Meat should be cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
Though HPAI does not present an immediate public health concern, MDC recommends that people do not touch dead geese, waterfowl, or other bird species.
MATTHEWS MAN INDICTED ON MULTIPLE DRUG CHARGES
A Matthews man has been indicted on multiple drug related charges.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, last week, a Federal Grand Jury found probable cause to indict David Wilburn, of Mathews, on charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
Officials say that the charges stem from an multi agency investigation where Wilburn was arrested at his residence in September.
As a part of that investigation, officers located approximately 61 grams of methamphetamine, multiple firearms, drug paraphernalia with packaging supplies, and a 3-D printer that was used for manufacturing illegal firearms.
LOW INTEREST LOAN AWARDED TO CARTER COUNTY WATER DISTRICT FOR DRINKING WATER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS
Some Southeast Missouri residents could be seeing water improvements thanks to a recent decision by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
The Department has awarded a $278,000 low-interest loan to Carter County Public Water Supply District Number 1 for planning and design work related to the district’s ongoing drinking water improvement project.
Officials say that the funds will provide vital interim financing to cover early engineering and administrative costs while the district works with the department to secure a larger loan and grant funding package for their drinking water project.
The larger construction project is expected to cost $5.8 million and is expected to start in 2025.

WOMAN FLOWN TO ST. LOUIS HOSPITAL FOLLOWING CRASH NEAR POPLAR BLUFF
A Bloomfield woman was flown from the scene of a crash Monday afternoon in Butler County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly before 5 pm on US Highway 67, two miles north of Poplar Bluff, when a vehicle pulled into the path of another vehicle.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 78 year old woman from Bloomfield, was flown to a St. Louis hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the first vehicle received moderate injuries and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

POPLAR BLUFF RESIDENTS ASKED TO GIVE FEEDBACK ON ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION PLAN
Poplar Bluff residents are being asked to give their input on the draft plan to the city’s Active Transportation Plan.
The draft says that the goal of the plan is to prioritize sidewalk
and trail improvements that are safe for all users, as well as identify ways to improve the short and long-term health outcomes of Poplar Bluff’s residents.

POPLAR BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL BETA CLUB TO HOST COOKIES WITH SANTA EVENT
Poplar Bluff area children will be able to visit with Santa this weekend during an event at Poplar Bluff High School.
The PBHS Beta Club will be hosting Cookies with Santa on Saturday, December 14th from 1 to 4 pm at the PBHS Cafeteria.
Parents will spend $10 for their first child and $5 for any additional children.
Kids will get to visit with Santa as well as enjoy games, crafts, and food.
VETERAN WREATH PLACEMENT CEREMONY SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND
Wreaths will be placed on the graves of veterans this weekend.
On December 14th the Poplar Bluff Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in cooperation with Wreaths Across America, will hold a ceremony at the Poplar Bluff Memorial Gardens Cemetery to honor veterans buried there.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 am.
Everyone is invited to attend the ceremony, which will be followed by placing wreaths on veteran’s graves.

PUBLIC MEETING SCHEDULED TO DISCUSS ROUTE 60 STUDY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY
A public meeting has been scheduled for this month to discuss Interstate 57 and Route 60 in New Madrid and Scott Counties.
The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 19th to discuss the Route 60 conceptual study in New Madrid and Scott Counties.
The meeting will be held at MoDOT's Southeast District Office in Sikeston.
The study includes an 11-mile section of U.S. Route 60 from the I-55/I-57/US 60 interchange in Sikeston to County Road 593. Officials say the study is a step in the multi-phase process to extend Interstate 57 from I-55 in Sikeston to Little Rock, Arkansas.
To extend I-57, it would be necessary to upgrade U.S. 60 to interstate standards. The corridor includes many at-grade intersections in addition to multiple field entrances, median crossovers and private driveways.
MoDOT has initiated this study to take a preliminary look at options for upgrading the roadway to improve safety and traffic flow.

CONTRACT AWARDED FOR BRIDGE REPLACEMENT IN BUTLER COUNTY
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has awarded contracts for various road projects in Southeast Missouri.
According to officials, an over 841 thousand dollar contract was awarded to Joe’s Bridge and Grading, for a bridge replacement on Route 158 over Craven Ditch in Butler County.
An over 2.6 million dollar contract was awarded to Apex Paving for resurfacing and adding rumble strips on Route 62 from Route 53 to the Arkansas State line and from Route 53 to Route 25 in Dunklin County.
Additional information about the projects, including a timeline and what impacts there will be to traffic, will be released prior to the start of construction.

ESSEX MAN ARRESTED ON SEXUAL MISCONDUCT AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY WARRANT
An Essex man is in custody after his arrest on a sexual misconduct and child pornography warrant.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 21 year old Damon Austin was recently arrested on a two count warrant for sexual misconduct involving a child under 15 and possession of child pornography.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Austin was having inappropriate contact with a juvenile over text messages.
He was held in the Stoddard County Jail on a $20,000, cash only, bond.

MAN SENTENCED TO OVER 12 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SELLING METH FROM HIS HOME IN FISK
A Southeast Missouri man has been sentenced to over 12 years in prison for selling meth from his home in Butler County.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, in February of 2023, Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force officers received information that Johnny Morrow was selling methamphetamine.
Officers made two purchases of meth totaling 22 grams from Morrow at his home in Fisk. When officers arrived to serve a court-approved search warrant for Morrow’s home, he tried to run away but was caught and detained while still on the premises.
Officers found a pill bottle in a bedroom containing eight bags of meth packaged in a manner consistent with drugs intended for delivery, totaling approximately 31.6 grams, a separate pill bottle containing approximately 64.78 grams of meth and a bag of approximately 52.97 grams of meth concealed in a jacket.
Morrow pleaded guilty in June to one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Last week, he was sentenced to 152 months in prison.
FILING TO BEGIN TODAY FOR CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS
Filing will begin today for the upcoming Poplar Bluff City Council elections.
The city will be holding elections in April for two seats on the City Council, one representative each from Wards One and Three. Both elections will be for three year terms.
Candidates can begin filing for the election today at 8 am. The final day for candidate filing will be December 31st.

Filing will also begin today for multiple positions on the Poplar Bluff R-1 Board of Education. According to school officials, there are two positions available for three year terms that will be voted on during the election on April 8th, 2025.

MULTIPLE EARTHQUAKES SHAKE SOUTHEAST MISSOURI THURSDAY MORNING
Multiple earthquakes shook Southeast Missouri Monday morning
According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 3.0 quake was recorded at around 12:30 am Monday morning.
The earthquake was centered around two and half miles west of Howardville and had a depth of almost five miles.
Officials say that six other earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 1.8 to 2.2 were recorded between midnight and 7:30 am Monday in the southeast Missouri area.
ONE DEAD FOLLOWING FIRE IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS
One person has died following a fire in Northeast Arkansas.
According to Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder, at around 7:30 pm Saturday night, a structure fire was reported in the 1700 block of County Road 333.
After the fire was extinguished, firefighters discovered a body inside the residence.
Snyder says that the body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and to determine positive identification.
Due to a death occurring from this fire, the Paragould Fire Department’s Fire Marshal has been requested to assist with the investigation.
ROAD WORK TO CAUSE CLOSURE TODAY NEAR COOTER
Route H in Pemiscot County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.
The section of roadway is located from County Road 548 to County Road 556 near Cooter.
Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Numerous spectators and over one hundred vehicles lit up downtown Poplar Bluff this past weekend.
Everyone was out Friday night for the latest edition of the River Radio Lighted Christmas Parade. In addition to the parade, spectators also took in the lighting of the Downtown Poplar Bluff Community Christmas Tree in front of the Black River Coliseum.

DONIPHAN MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO SECOND DEGREE MURDER
A Doniphan man is facing over a decade behind bars for the murder of a man in 2019.
According to Missouri Case Net, 44 year old David Scrivner Jr, pled guilty last week to a felony charge of murder 2nd degree.
Following the plea, Scrivner was sentenced to 15 years incarceration in the Department of Corrections.
Scrivner, along with four other people, were arrested in July of 2019 after the remains of 44 year old Daniel Richardson were discovered in Ripley County.
LARGE FIGHT CAUSES CANCELLATION OF GIDEON BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
A fight prompted the cancellation of a basketball tournament Friday in Southeast Missouri.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, shortly before 8 pm Friday, officers from multiple area agencies were called to Gideon High School due to a large fight in the building.
Officials say that the scene was quickly gotten under control by officers and no one was injured in the incident.
Sources tell KWOC News that three players were assaulted in the lobby during halftime of the 3rd place game which led to the fight.
The remainder of the tournament was cancelled. South Pemiscot had been set to play East Prairie in the championship game.
ONE DEAD FOLLOWING CRASH IN PEMISCOT COUNTY
One person is dead following a crash on Friday in Pemiscot County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a truck struck a vehicle head on five miles west of Caruthersville on Route U.
A 79 year old woman, from Caruthersville, was driving the second vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. No injuries were listed for the driver of the truck.
MONTHS LONG JOINT INVESTIGATION ENDS IN DRUG INDICTMENT IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
A months-long investigation by multiple Southeast Missouri law enforcement agencies has resulted in a drug indictment.
According to authorities, on November 1st officers with the SEMO Drug Task Force, New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, New Madrid Police Department, and Portageville Police Department executed two search warrants at a residence in Lilbourn.
During the search, officers located more than 1.5 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, and ecstasy.
The bust resulted in the arrest of Charles A. Perkins.
On December 3rd, Perkins was indicted by a Federal Grand Jury for possession with the intent to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine.
Officials say that Perkins is now in the custody of the US Marshals.
CULVERT REPLACEMENT TO CAUSE ROAD CLOSURE TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY
Route JJ in Butler County will be closed today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a culvert under the roadway.
The work zone is located between Route 67 and County Road 3733.
Weather permitting, work will take place today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
SHOULDER WORK SCHEDULED FOR TODAY NEAR QULIN
Route 51 in Butler County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform shoulder work.
The section of roadway being reduced is located from County Road 228 to County Road 224 near Qulin.

RIVER RADIO LIGHTED CHRISTMAS PARADE IS TONIGHT
Christmas lights will be shining bright tonight in Downtown Poplar Bluff.
The 2024 River Radio Lighted Christmas Parade is scheduled to begin at 6 pm with line up starting at 4:30 pm at the Sky High Fun Zone parking lot.
The parade route this year will run from Highway 53 at McDonalds, north along Ditch Road into Downtown Poplar Bluff, then east on Vine Street, before circling back on Main Street.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN CHARGED WITH SODOMY AND ASSAULT IN CONNECTION TO INCIDENT AT AREA HOTEL
A Poplar Bluff man is facing multiple charges following a reported sexual assault at an area hotel.
According to Lieutenant Josh Stewart with the Poplar Bluff Police Department, the incident occurred on November 30th, and the suspect, 30 year old Austin Davis, of Poplar Bluff, was taken into custody a few days later.
Davis has been charged with sodomy or attempted sodomy - 1st degree, kidnapping - 1st degree, and assault 3rd degree.
Davis is being held in the Butler County Justice Center on no bond. He had his initial appearance in a Butler County Courtroom Thursday morning.
THREE RIVERS COLLEGE MUSIC DEPARTMENT TO HOST CHOIR CONCERT THIS WEEKEND
The Three Rivers College Music Department will be hosting a choir concert this weekend.
The event has been scheduled for 3 pm on Sunday, December 8th, at the First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff.

DEADLINE IS TODAY TO PURCHASE TAGS FOR BULKY ITEM PICKUP
Today is the final day for Poplar Bluff residents to purchase tags for this month’s Bulky Item Pickup.
Residents can purchase bulk item tags from the City Collector’s office at City Hall for $20. The tags entitle you to the removal of four bulk items, such as couches or refrigerators. Tires may be collected for a charge of $3 per tire with a limit of four tires.
No construction materials or small items will be picked up and the program is for residential areas only.
Today is the final day to purchase item tags at City Hall to be included in next week’s pick up, which will be conducted on Tuesday, December, 10th.
KENNETT SMALL TOWN CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL SET TO BEGIN ON SATURDAY
A holiday tradition will return to Kennett this year with the Just a Small Town Christmas festival.
The festival will be held from December 7th through the 10th and include multiple events, such as the Adelphian Club Bazaar on December 7th, tree decorating and pageants on December 8th, and the tree lighting ceremony on December 10th.

The Corning VFW 8347 will be hosting a pancake breakfast with Santa this weekend.
The event is scheduled for 7:30 to 11:30 A.M. on Saturday at the Corning Community Center.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT
Authorities in Poplar Bluff say that a man is in custody in connection to an alleged sexual assault.
According to Lieutenant Josh Stewart with the Poplar Bluff Police Department, shortly before noon on November 30th, officers responded to the Holiday Inn on North Westwood Boulevard for a reported sexual assault.
The victim was reportedly attacked by a male suspect in the women’s restroom. The victim was able to flee from the suspect and alert others to the situation. She was later transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the assault.

APPOINTMENTS BEING ACCEPTED FOR POPLAR BLUFF EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER SCREENING
The Poplar Bluff Early Childhood Center is now scheduling screening appointments for the 2025/26 school year.
According to school officials, they are currently making appointments for dates starting in February at the 1202 Camp Road Campus.
To be eligible, children must be between the ages of three and five on July 31st, 2025. The parent or legal guardian must be the person who makes the appointment and brings the child to the appointment.

CHRIS JANSON TO HEADLINE 2025 VALENTIES FOR VETERANS CONCERT
The artists have been announced for the 2025 Valentines for Veterans concert in Poplar Bluff.
According to the Wake Foundation, the concert, featuring Chris Janson and Billy Yates, will be held on Thursday, February 13th at the Black River Coliseum.
Tickets for the concert are free for military members and veterans as well as their families. Tickets can be picked up at the Black River Coliseum, the Stars and Stripes Museum, the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center, and the Wake Foundation beginning on January 6th. You must show a military ID when picking up your tickets.

KENNETT SCHOOL OFFICIALS SEEKING PARENTS INPUT ON POSSIBLE FOUR DAY SCHOOL WEEK
Kennett School Officials are asking for input from parents and community members about a possible change to the school week.
A survey has been released asking Kennett #39 School District residents about a four-day school week for the 2025-2026 school year.
If the plan is implemented, school would not be in session on Mondays for students. Officials say that a major factor in considering a four-day school week would be to attract highly qualified staff and to retain qualified staff members.

PUBLIC MEETING SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT TO DISCUSS FUTURE INTERSTATE 57 PROJECT IN CLAY COUNTY
A Public Meeting will be held tonight to discuss the Future Interstate 57 project in Northeast Arkansas.
The Arkansas Department of Transportation will conduct a public involvement meeting from 4 to 7 p.m. to gather input on the proposed design of the 4.9-mile new location highway that will extend north from Highway 67 near Corning and terminate at the Missouri state line.
The meeting will be held at the M.B. Ainley Community Center in Corning.

MAN FACING BURGLARY AND DOMESTIC ASSAULT CHARGES
An area man is facing multiple charges in connection to alleged recent incidents in Fisk.
According to a probable cause affidavit, 29 year old Jonathan Smith, of Poplar Bluff, is accused of choking a woman and threatening to burn down her apartment.
Smith, who also goes by the name Johnathan Godti, later allegedly returned to the apartment and tried to set fire to it with the victim inside and also stole her property.

PROPOSED CHANGE WOULD REVISE GPA REQUIREMENTS FOR SOME MISSOURI TEACHER CERTIFICATION AREAS
Missouri state officials are considering a revision to GPA requirements for some state teachers.
The Missouri State Board of Education has voted to publish a notice of proposed rulemaking to change the requirements for some teacher certification areas.
The current rule requires a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the specific subject area for which the teacher is seeking certification. This proposed amendment to the rule would change the required GPA from 3.0 to 2.5.
A Missouri researcher evaluated 1,174 teacher candidates from science, technology, engineering, and math fields and found no statistical difference between the first-time certification exam pass rates of candidates with a content GPA between 2.75 and 3.0 and those with a content GPA of 3.0 and above.
Officials say that the State Board of Education instituted the current GPA requirement for content teacher certifications in 2017. Since establishing the rule, the state has seen a substantial drop in the number of individuals completing the program for these certification types, disproportionately affecting teacher candidates in STEM subjects, where the need for teachers is particularly high.
The order of rulemaking will likely be on the State Board of Education’s agenda for a final vote in March 2025.
19th ANNUAL CHILI COOK-OFF SET FOR FEBRUARY 22nd
A date has been set for the Mason-Dixon Chili Society’s 19th annual Chili Cook-Off.
The event will be held from 11 am to 2 pm on Saturday, February 22nd at the Black River Coliseum. A cook’s party will be held the day before the event.
The participation fee is $100 per booth if you register by February 1st. Proceeds from the Cook-Off go to benefit the United Gospel Rescue Mission.
Entry will be free to the public the day of the event.

WORKERS AT FAURECIA IN DEXTER GO ON STRIKE
Workers at the Faurecia plant in Dexter went on strike Tuesday morning.
UAW Local 1930 members were reportedly on the picket lines due to safety concerns, among other issues.

DEADLINE IS FRIDAY TO PURCHASE TAGS FOR BULKY ITEM PICKUP
Friday is the final day for Poplar Bluff residents to purchase tags for this month’s Bulky Item Pickup.
Residents can purchase bulk item tags from the City Collector’s office at City Hall for $20. The tags entitle you to the removal of four bulk items, such as couches or refrigerators. Tires may be collected for a charge of $3 per tire with a limit of four tires.
No construction materials or small items will be picked up and the program is for residential areas only.
Friday is the final day to purchase item tags at City Hall to be included in next week’s pick up, which will be conducted on Tuesday, December, 10th

RESIDENTS EVACUATED FROM ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY DUE TO FIRE
Residents of a Southeast Missouri assisted living facility were temporarily evacuated Monday morning due to a fire.
According to Chief Lance Davis with the Kennett Fire Department, at approximately 11:00 AM on Monday, firefighters responded to a fire alarm activation at 614 South Bypass.
Responding units observed smoke emanating from the facility and the residents were promptly evacuated and relocated to a neighboring facility to ensure their comfort and well-being.

TWO ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH ROAD HUNTING INCIDENTS AT OZARK NATIONAL SCENIC RIVERWAYS
Two people have been taken into custody in connection to illegal road hunting incidents in Southeast Missouri.
According to Ozark National Scenic Riverways, “Road hunting” involves shooting wildlife from a public roadway. This illegal practice can ruin legitimate hunting for others, and it is particularly dangerous during fall in the Ozarks.
The first incident took place on M Highway, near Van Buren. A man riding with his son spotted a white “piebald” deer across a field. After having his son stop the vehicle, he poached the animal from the roadway. A witness then called law enforcement, resulting in an arrest.
“Piebald” deer have a genetic abnormality that produces more white fur. Only about 1 in 20,000 deer are piebald, and this one was almost pure white.
The second incident involved the shooting of a “decoy” deer near Akers, where a poacher stopped and shot the decoy deer from his vehicle.

TEXAS MAN ARRESTED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI ON SEXUAL ASSAULT WARRANT
Authorities in Southeast Missouri have arrested a Texas man on a sexual assault warrant.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 30 year old Dennis Castro, of Edcouch, Texas, was taken into custody Sunday afternoon in Dunklin County on a felony Nueces County, Texas warrant for sexual assault.
Following the arrest, Castro was held at the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office on no bond.
OVER 159 THOUSAND DEER HARVESTED DURING NOVEMBER PORTION OF FIREARM DEER SEASON
Hunters across Missouri took to the woods last month for the November potion of firearms deer season.
According to preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation, hunters harvested 159,120 deer during November. Of the deer harvested, 82,613 were antlered bucks, 13,203 were button bucks, and 63,304 were does.
Officials say that this year’s harvest total was lower than last year’s November portion harvest total of over 193 thousand deer and was about 15 percent below the five-year average.
According to MDC Cervid Program Supervisor Jason Isabelle, the drop in harvest this year was due to a combination of factors including a calendar shift which resulted in the November portion starting a week later as well as less than ideal hunting conditions.
CHRISTMAS AND IRISH MUSIC CONCERT SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT AT THE TINNIN FINE ARTS CENTER
Three Rivers College will be hosting a concert filled with Christmas and Irish music tonight.
The Celtic Angels Christmas concert will begin at 7 pm tonight at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center in Poplar Bluff.
The performance will showcase the magic of Christmas through vocal and instrumental music—both seasonal and Irish favorites—along with world-class Irish dancing.

FOUR PEOPLE KILLED IN MISSOURI TRAFFIC CRASHES DURING HOLIDAY WEEKEND
Four people were killed in traffic crashes in Missouri during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, troopers worked 362 traffic crashes, which included 120 injuries and four fatalities.
This year, troopers also made 106 DWI arrests over the holiday weekend.
All numbers were down compared to last year’s Thanksgiving holiday weekend, except for fatalities which were the same.

Parade lights will be shining bright in Downtown Poplar Bluff this Friday for the 2024 River Radio Lighted Christmas Parade.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 6 pm this Friday. Line up will begin at 4:30 at the Sky-High Fun Zone parking lot.
The parade route this year will run from Highway 142 at McDonalds through downtown Poplar Bluff before looping back and ending at the Black River Coliseum.

WINTER DRAWDOWN SCHEDULED AT WAPPAPELLO LAKE
The date has been announced for the annual winter drawdown at Wappapello Lake.
According to the United States Army Corps of Engineers, the drawdown from recreation pool to conservation pool will begin on December 16th.
Officials say the lake level is drawn down five feet, from 359.74 feet to 354.74 feet, which allows for additional storage of winter and spring precipitation.
During the conservation pool, boaters are urged to use caution when on the lake as mud flats and tree stumps may be exposed or be just under the water surface.
Near the beginning of April next year, the lake level will be gradually allowed to rise until the recreation pool is reached in early May.

HAYTI FIRE DEPARTMENT RIB DINNER SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND
A Southeast Missouri Fire Department will be hosting their annual rib dinner this weekend.
The 45th annual Hayti Fire Department Rib Dinner will be from 5 to 7 pm on Saturday. Officials say that they will be serving to-go plates only at the Fire Station.
Tickets are $40 for two plates. There will also be a cash giveaway and raffles for multiple items.

CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT TO BEGIN THIS MONTH
State officials are encouraging birders in Southeast Missouri to join in on the National Audubon Society’s 125th Christmas Bird Count.
The CBC is an early-winter bird census where thousands of volunteers across the U.S., Canada, and many countries in the western hemisphere go out over a 24-hour period on one calendar day to count birds.
24 hour counts will be held at Mingo in Puxico on December 14th, Big Spring in Van Buren on December 20th, and on an unannounced date in Poplar Bluff.

PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS THIS WEEK ON US ROUTE 60 IN CARTER COUNTY
Route 60 in Carter and Shannon Counties will be reduced to one lane this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.
The work zone is located on the westbound lanes from Route P to Route 19 near Winona. The eastbound lanes will be reduced from Route 99 to Route Y.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily, through Friday.

UNITED GOSPEL RESCUE MISSION TO HOST ANNUAL THANKSGIVING DINNER
The United Gospel Rescue Mission is providing their annual Thanksgiving Meal tomorrow.

WAPPAPELLO MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
A Wappapello man will be sentenced in February after pleading guilty to a child pornography charge.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 43 year old Thomas Stroud Jr. pled guilty Tuesday to possession of child pornography.
According to court documents, last March, Stroud’s probation officer discovered that he had been using a cell phone to communicate with a subject in the state of Indiana.
During the communications, Stroud obtained several images of child pornography.
He has a prior federal conviction for possessing child pornography in 2009.
Stroud’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for February 25, where he faces a minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum sentence of 20 years for the new child pornography offense. He also faces an additional sentence of up to 24 months for violating the terms of supervised release.
POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGEDLY LEADING OFFICERS ON PURSUIT
A Poplar Bluff woman has been taken into custody in connection to a pursuit.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, on Monday an officer pulled over 49 year old Cheryl Leezer for a traffic stop.
Leezer led officers on a pursuit after being told that her vehicle was being impounded.
She was eventually stopped and arrested on charges of resisting arrest by fleeing and 4th degree assault on a law enforcement officer.
Leezer was lodged in the Butler County Justice Center.
MOTORISTS ENCOURAGED TO DRIVE SAFELY DURING THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY PERIOD
Many Missouri residents are getting ready to get on the road to see their family for Thanksgiving, but officials are urging motorists to keep safety in mind.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, nine people were killed during the 2023 Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Officials are urging motorists to be vigilant, always buckle up, obey posted speed limits, and never drive impaired or distracted.
State Troopers will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E., over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, enforcing all traffic laws, and being available to assist the public.

21ST ANNUAL SANTA LAND EVENT TO BE HELD NEXT WEEK IN POPLAR BLUFF
The 21st Annual Santa Land event has been scheduled for next week in Poplar Bluff.
According to Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation, the event will be held on Tuesday, December 3rd, from 5:30 pm to 8 pm at the Black River Coliseum. The portion for individuals with special needs will begin at 5:30 pm.

32ND ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS AUTO TOUR BEGINS FRIDAY
Officials with the US Army Corps of Engineers are preparing for the start of the 2024 Festival of Lights Auto Tour this week.
The 32nd Annual Auto Tour will be held at the Redman Creek East Campground from November 29th through December 25th.
This event is being held in partnership with the Wappapello Lake Area Association and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It is supported by businesses, volunteers, churches, organizations, and the community.

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND AT POPLAR BLUFF KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be featured guests during breakfast this weekend in Poplar Bluff.

THANKSGIVING COOKING SAFETY TIPS
Thanksgiving is almost here, and the American Red Cross is reminding you to stay safe while you prepare the holiday dinner.
The Red Cross advises that cooks should avoid wearing loose clothing or dangling sleeves while preparing the holiday meal.
You should also never leave the stove unattended – if the cook has to leave the kitchen even for a short time, they should turn off the stove.

Remember to clean cooking surfaces on a regular basis to prevent grease buildup and keep anything that can catch fire, including pot holders, oven mitts, and food packaging, away from the stove, oven or any other appliance in the kitchen that generates heat.
According to the Center for Disease Control, before cooking your turkey, set the oven temperature no lower than 325°F and be sure the turkey is completely thawed.
For optimal safety and uniform doneness, you should cook the stuffing outside the turkey in a casserole dish. However, if you plan on placing the stuffing inside the turkey, do so just before cooking.
ONE DEAD FOLLOWING SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
A Southeast Missouri man has died following a crash on Sunday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 71 year old man from Caruthersville was driving on Interstate 55 when his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned.
The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by Pemiscot County Coroner Brian Irions.
THREE RIVERS SHRINE CLUB TO HOST TOY RUN THIS WEEKEND
An event is scheduled for this weekend to benefit Shriner’s Hospitals.
The Three Rivers Shrine Club Toy Run will begin at noon on Saturday. Signups begin at 11 am at the Shrine Club on Kennedy Lane in Poplar Bluff.
Organizers say that Motorcycles, Hot Rods, and Side by Sides are all welcome. All toy and monetary donations will go to Shriner’s Hospitals.
MAN CONVICTED OF MULTIPLE FELONIES IN CONNECTION TO KENNETT SHOOTING
A man will be sentenced early next year for his part in a non-fatal shooting in the Kennett area.
According to the Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, 46 year old Johnny Lee Phillips Jr., was found guilty last week of shooting a man in November of 2017.
Evidence was presented during the trial that alleged that Phillips pulled a handgun and shot the victim in the chest following an argument.
The victim was flown by air ambulance to a Memphis hospital and survived his injuries.
On Thursday, a jury in Pemiscot County found Phillips guilty of felony assault in the first degree, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.
Sentencing is scheduled for January 13th, where Phillips faces the possibility of life in prison.
MONTH LONG CULVERT REPLACEMENT PROJECT UNDERWAY IN STODDARD COUNTY
Route ZZ in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane for almost a month as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace several culverts under the roadway.
The section of roadway involved in the project is located between County Roads 642 and 648.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through Friday, December 20.
NEW MADRID COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED OVER TWO DAYS FOR CULVERT REPLACEMENT
Route BB in New Madrid County will be closed over two days as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.
The section of roadway is located between Route P and County Road 716.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both today and tomorrow.

According to MoDOT, the proposal would reconfigure Pine Street from an undivided 4-lane roadway to a 3-lane with one eastbound lane, a center turn lane, and one westbound lane from 10th Street to Route B.
MoDOT Project Manager Curt Woolsey tells KWOC News that the proposal started as an effort to address a curve east of the bridge that shows more crashes than expected when compared to similar roadways. Woolsey says it became clear to them that it would also improve traffic flow.

FILING TO BEGIN ON DECEMBER 10TH FOR TWO POSITIONS ON THE POPLAR BLUFF R-1 SCHOOL BOARD
Filing is scheduled to begin early next month for multiple positions on the Poplar Bluff R-1 Board of Education.
According to school officials, there are two positions available for three year terms that will be voted on during the election on April 8th, 2025.
Candidates can file in person with the Secretary of the Board of Education beginning at 8 am on December 10th at the School Administration Office.

DATES SET FOR SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS AT THE PALACE OF PRAISE
The dates have been set for the annual Christmas themed play at a Poplar Bluff church.
The Palace of Praise is presenting the 15th Annual Sounds of Christmas nightly from December 15th through the 18th beginning at 7 pm each night.
Admission to the show is free, but you can also purchase tickets for a dinner theater experience on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.

CAMPAIGN TO BE HELD THIS WEEK TO REMIND MOTORISTS TO BUCKLE UP
With many families hitting the road this week to celebrate Thanksgiving, law enforcement officials are reminding motorists to make sure your seat belt is fastened.
According to the Arkansas State Police, law enforcement across the state will be conducting a high-visibility Click It or Ticket seat belt awareness campaign from today through Sunday.
Officials say that officers will be taking a no-excuses approach to seat belt law enforcement, writing citations both day and night to save lives.
CULVERT REPLACEMENT TO CAUSE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI ROAD
Route 164 in Pemiscot County will be closed early this week so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a culvert under the roadway.
The section of roadway is located from Route H to County Road 515 near Steele.
Weather permitting, work will take place both today and tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

TWO PEOPLE SENTENCED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI MURDER INVESTIGATION

According to Bollinger County Sheriff Casey Graham, in October of 2021, the Bollinger County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing person, identified as 21 year old Brianna Roberts, of Illinois.
An investigation into the disappearance led to the arrests of Eric Nanney and Kaitlyn Morgan.

According to Bollinger County Sheriff Casey Graham, in October of 2021, the Bollinger County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing person, identified as 21 year old Brianna Roberts, of Illinois.
An investigation into the disappearance led to the arrests of Eric Nanney and Kaitlyn Morgan.
Last month, Nanney was convicted by a Bollinger County Jury on charges of murder 1st degree, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence, and abandonment of a corpse.
On Thursday, Morgan pled guilty to murder 2nd degree, tampering with physical evidence, and abandonment of a corpse.
A judge sentenced both subjects on Thursday. Nanney received a total sentence of two life sentences without the possibility of parole plus an additional 23 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Morgan was sentenced to 30 years on the murder charge as well as four years each on the other two charges, with all counts to run concurrently.
FILING TO BEGIN IN DECEMBER FOR CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS
Filing will begin early next month for the upcoming Poplar Bluff City Council elections.
The city will be holding elections in April for two seats on the City Council, one representative each from Wards One and Three. Both elections will be for three year terms.
Candidates can begin filing for the election on Tuesday, December 10th. The final day for candidate filing will be December 31st.

WOMAN FLOWN FROM THE SCENE OF A CRASH IN NEW MADRID COUNTY
A woman was flown from the scene of a single vehicle crash in New Madrid County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 4 am Thursday morning on Missouri Highway 80 where a 42 year old East Prairie woman failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the roadway.
The woman suffered serious injuries and was flown to a Memphis hospital.
TWIN RIVERS STUDENTS GATHER DONATIONS TO HELP GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
Students at Twin Rivers in Fisk have been working hard this week to help make Thanksgiving better for area families.
The Twin River Student Council is creating Thanksgiving baskets for local families and each class in the school was assigned a particular item to make sure each basket is full.
Each basket will have everything needed for a complete Thanksgiving meal and will go to a local family.
Organizers say that the class that brings in the most of their items will get a special pizza lunch the week after Thanksgiving.
32ND ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS AUTO TOUR BEGINS NEXT WEEK
Officials with the US Army Corps of Engineers are preparing for the start of the 2024 Festival of Lights Auto Tour next week.
The 32nd Annual Auto Tour will be held at the Redman Creek East Campground from November 29th through December 25th.
This event is being held in partnership with the Wappapello Lake Area Association and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It is supported by businesses, volunteers, churches, organizations, and the community.

The Poplar Bluff R-1 Board of Education held an open session Tuesday night.
During the session, the board approved the purchase of Weapons Detection Systems for the High School, Junior High, and Mark Twain campuses. The cost of the eleven devices and training would be $210,580.70. Six of the devices will be placed at PBHS, three at the Junior High, and two at Mark Twain.

According to the Yondr website, students would place their phone inside a pouch when they enter the school. The students would keep their phones in their possession, but the pouch would remain locked. They can then tap the pouch on an unlocking base when they leave to retrieve their phones.

PARAGOULD MAN DIES FROM INJURIES RECEIVED WHEN HE WAS STRUCK BY A VEHICLE
A Northeast Arkansas man who was hit by a vehicle last week has died.
According to the Arkansas State Police, 55 year old Reggie Smith, of Paragould, was walking on Greene County Road 808 when he was hit from behind by a vehicle. The incident occurred shortly after 6 pm on November 14th.
The crash report says that the driver did not see Smith walking in the roadway.
Smith was transported to an area hospital and it was reported on Tuesday that he had succumbed to his injuries.
STODDARD COUNTY JURY FINDS AREA MAN GUILTY OF CHILD MOLESTATION CHARGE
A man has been convicted of child molestation in Stoddard County.
According to Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Sawyer Smith, a jury deliberated for 38 minutes before reaching a guilty verdict on a charge of child molestation - 3rd degree against the defendant Timothy Allbritton.
The verdict comes after a two day trial this week in Bloomfield.
Smith says that the conviction means that the defendant will be sent to the Department of Corrections for his sentence and will also be required to register as a sex offender.
A sentencing date was not released.
MICHIGAN MAN SUFFERS SERIOUS INJURIES IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI FREIGHTLINER CRASH
A Michigan man was taken to an area hospital following a single vehicle crash in New Madrid County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the 63 year old man from Frasier, Michigan, was driving a freightliner on Interstate 55 when the vehicle ran off the roadway, struck a bridge, and then struck a tree.
The driver suffered serious injuries in the crash.
SUICIDE AND OVERDOSE AWARENESS EVENT SET FOR TODAY AT THREE RIVERS COLLEGE
Three Rivers College will be hosting a suicide and overdose awareness event this evening.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Tinnin Fine Arts Center and will include the lighting of a tree to honor those in the community who were lost to suicide and overdose, as well as to celebrate those in recovery.
Attendees will be able to create an ornament for your friend or loved one for the special tree, listen to stories of hope, and enjoy hot chocolate and cookies.

MISSING SOUTHEAST MISSOURI TEEN FOUND SAFE
Updating a story we have been following for you, a missing teenager from Southeast Missouri has been found safe.
According to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office, the 16 year old girl from Campbell was reported missing on Saturday.
An investigation into the missing teen resulted in authorities identifying a possible location and person of interest.
The teen was found safe by the Savannah Police Department in Tennessee.
Officers also took one individual into custody. The name of the individual is being withheld at this time, pending the filing of formal charges.

WAPPAPELLO MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN WAYNE COUNTY ON METH CHARGE
A Wappapello man is facing a felony drug charge following his arrest Monday night.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 60 year old Carlton Mitchell was taken into custody on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine.
Mitchell is also facing a charge of driving while intoxicated.
Following the arrest, Mitchell was held in Wayne County.
SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENT PROJECT UNDERWAY IN POPLAR BLUFF
Route PP in Butler County will be reduced with a 12-foot width restriction through mid January as contractor crews perform sidewalk improvements.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the work zone is located from Township Line Road to Lakeview West Drive in Poplar Bluff.
Weather permitting, work will be performed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Friday, January 17th.

OVER 68 THOUSAND DEER HARVESTED DURING OPENING WEEKEND OF FIREARM DEER SEASON
Hunters across Missouri took to the woods over the weekend for the opening of the November potion of firearms deer season.
According to preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation, hunters harvested 68,312 deer during opening weekend. Of the deer harvested, 42,283 were antlered bucks, 5,105 were button bucks, and 20,924 were does.
Last year, hunters checked 90,253 deer during opening weekend.

STATE OFFICIALS INVESTIGATING MOUNTAIN LION DEATH IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
Officials with the Missouri Department of Conservation say that an investigation has been started concerning a mountain lion that was killed over the weekend in Southeast Missouri.
According to MDC officials, a deer hunter killed the mountain lion this past weekend in Iron County.
Since conservation agents are actively investigating the incident, additional details have not been released.

Eastbound Route 60 in Butler County will be reduced for over a week so construction crews can replace sign trusses and footings.

ONE DEAD FOLLOWING CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY
One person has died following a crash early Saturday morning in Butler County.
Butler County Coroner Jim Akers tells KWOC News that the multi vehicle accident occurred on US Highway 60, two miles west of Fisk.
The deceased has been identified as 37 year old Nathaniel Smith, of Scott City.
A crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol says that crash occurred when a vehicle struck the rear of another vehicle. Smith, a passenger in the first vehicle was ejected, and then struck by a freightliner. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital. No injuries were listed for the driver of the freightliner.

NATIONAL CRASH RESPONDER SAFETY WEEK IS THIS WEEK
Motorists are being urged to slow down and move over as a part of National Crash Responder Safety Week this week.
On a daily basis, emergency responders put their lives on the line along Missouri’s highways responding to crash scenes. These workers include police, fire, EMS, tow truck operators, and highway workers.
Officials say that by state law, drivers are required to move over or slow down, but a significant number do not.
In 2023, more than 54,000 traffic crashes were reported on Missouri roadways that required emergency response. MoDOT emergency response personnel respond to more than 4,500 traffic incidents each month on average.
Officials say that when you see emergency vehicles and highway crews with warning lights either on the road or shoulder; slow down, and when you are able to do so, move over.
VETERAN WREATH PLACEMENT CEREMONY SCHEDULED FOR NEXT MONTH
Wreaths will be placed on the graves of veterans next month.
On December 14th the Poplar Bluff Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in cooperation with Wreaths across America, will hold a ceremony at the Poplar Bluff Memorial Gardens Cemetery to honor veterans buried there.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 am.
Everyone is invited to attend the ceremony, which will be followed by placing wreaths on veteran’s graves.

PIEDMONT MAN ARRESTED ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES
A Piedmont man is facing sexual misconduct and endangering the welfare of a child charges following his arrest last week.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, investigators were requested on November 12th to assist the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department to investigate an alleged sexual offense, involving a 15 year old juvenile.
As a result of the investigation, it was learned that 29 year old Wesley Shatley, electronically sent pornographic images to the juvenile and attempted to arrange a meeting with the victim at a residence.
On Friday, Shatley was arrested and charged with Furnishing Pornographic Material to a Minor, First Degree Harassment, First Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Sexual Misconduct Involving a Child.
Shatley is currently lodged in the Wayne County Jail with no bond.
PUBLIC HEARING TO BE HELD TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF TO DISCUSS BLOCK GRANTS
A public hearing has been scheduled for today concerning proposed block grants in Poplar Bluff.
The City of Poplar Bluff will hold a public hearing at 6:30 pm on Monday, November 18th at the Poplar Bluff City Hall to discuss the city's submission of an application for a Community Development Block Grant.
The City of Poplar Bluff is proposing to drill and install a well near the water storage tank on Alice Street in Poplar Bluff to serve as a backup water source in the event the main water facility is compromised, with an estimated cost of over $1.2 million dollars.

The 21st Annual Santa Land event has been scheduled for next month in Poplar Bluff.

DUNKLIN COUNTY WOMAN ADMITS TO AIDING $565,000
A Southeast Missouri woman is facing possible decades in prison for aiding $565,000.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 55 year old Sheri Reeves, of Kennett pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court to aiding and abetting bank fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud, and one count of wire fraud.
Reeves admitted to acting as a money courier, transferring money obtained by fraud to co-conspirators.
On June 9, 2020, Reeves opened an account at a Bank of America branch in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Sometime before October 21, 2020, Reeves added the name of the fraud victim to the account. Reeves’ co-conspirators used fraudulently obtained account information to access the victim’s account and transfer a total of $565,000 to Reeves’ account in three separate electronic transfers.
Reeves then sent the fraud proceeds to others using cashier’s checks obtained in Tennessee and Arkansas and to an ATM in Dunklin County. She also sent her account information to others and withdrew or attempted to withdraw the proceeds in cash or by check.
At her sentencing, scheduled for February 13th, Reeves faces up to 30 years in prison, a $1 million fine or both.
COMMUNITY TREE LIGHTING TO BE HELD IN DOWNTOWN POPLAR BLUFF ON DECEMBER 6TH
Downtown Poplar Bluff will be filled with the spirit of Christmas this December.
The lighting of the Community Christmas Tree has been scheduled for 6 pm, on Friday, December 6th.
The Christmas Tree will be located in front of the Black River Coliseum and the lighting of the tree will be broadcast on the Today’s Talk KWOC, Clear 94, Z95 the Bone, and Shuffle 92.9 Facebook pages, as well as the River Radio Youtube page.
Immediately after the lighting, the River Radio Lighted Christmas Parade will begin, running from Highway 53 down Ditch Road before circling through Downtown Poplar Bluff.
STATE OFFICIALS STRESS SAFETY FOR NON-HUNTERS DURING HUNTING SEASON
Firearms deer season will open this weekend in Missouri and state officials are reminding non-hunters that they also need to practice safety measures when afield.
Officials say that non-hunters should wear bright clothing to be more visible, such as a bright orange hat, jacket, or pack.
Place a bright orange vest or bandana on canines who join you and remember to keep them leashed. Be aware that hunters are often most active during the early morning and late afternoon, when game animals are most active. Be especially aware of your own visibility during these times when light is dim.
Stay on designated trails. Trails are designed to improve the safety of public users and to protect sensitive habitats. Enjoying recreational activities only on designated trails will reduce the likelihood of entering hunting areas.
If you hear shooting, raise your voice, and let hunters know you are in the area.
This is also the time to be extra cautious and watching for deer while driving.

The Purman Volunteer Fire Department in Doniphan has announced they will be hosting a Chili Supper and Dessert Auction tonight.
The supper will begin at 4 pm at the fire station, on State Highway E, in Doniphan.
There will also be take out bowls and a Pie and Dessert Auction.
100 percent of the proceeds will go to the Purman Volunteer Fire Department.

An area man has been sentenced on a child pornography charge.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 40 year old Justin Wade Welker, of Bollinger County, pled guilty in August to one count of child pornography. Welker was sentenced Tuesday to 179 months in federal prison.
The investigation began after officials were alerted that Welker was uploading images and videos of child pornography to his phone.
Officials say that after serving his 179-month sentence, Welker will be placed on supervised release for a period of 20 years. Welker will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

STATE OFFICIALS URGE NATURE GOERS TO WATCH FOR CERTAIN ANIMALS
If you will be spending some time outdoors this fall, Missouri state officials are asking you to be on the lookout for certain animals.
The Missouri Department of Conservation is asking hunters and others to report sightings of key animal species they see when outdoors.
The animals to look out for include elk, black bears, mountain lions, invasive feral hogs, and rare furbearers such as badgers, least weasels, long-tailed weasels, and spotted skunks.
Anyone who sees one of these animals is asked to report it online at mdc.mo.gov.
REGISTRATION FOR WINTER AND SPRING CLASSES IS UNDERWAY AT THREE RIVERS COLLEGE
There is still time to get registered for Winter and Spring classes at Three Rivers College.
Registration is open for Winter classes through December 13th and for Spring classes through January 10th.
TRC is also accepting applications for their Sikeston RN Bridge program, Behavioral Health Support program, and new Surgical Technology program through December 1st.

ONE INJURED IN MULTI VEHICLE CRASH NEAR CARUTHERSVILLE
A Hayti woman was seriously injured in a multi vehicle crash on Tuesday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by a 75 year old female was driving on Route D, two miles west of Caruthersville Tuesday morning pulled into the path of another vehicle. Officials have not released any names at this time.
The driver of the first vehicle received serious injuries in the wreck and was flown to a Memphis hospital. No injuries were listed for the driver of the second vehicle.
DEER HUNTERS REMINDED OF MANDATORY CWD SAMPLING
With firearm deer season coming up, the Missouri Department of Conservation is reminding deer hunters that it will be holding mandatory chronic wasting disease sampling during the opening weekend.
Hunters who harvest deer from designated counties in the CWD Management Zone on November 16th or 17th are required to take their harvested deer, or the head, on the day of harvest to one of MDC’s numerous CWD mandatory sampling stations located throughout the zone.
Southeast Missouri counties included in the CWD Management Zone include Shannon, Bollinger, and Oregon.
Hunters must present their deer to a CWD mandatory sampling station within the county of harvest, with a few exceptions. Sampling and test results are free.

2024 JINGLE BELL JOG 5K SET FOR DECEMBER 7TH
Registration is underway for the 2024 Jingle Bell Jog 5k in Poplar Bluff.
The race will begin at 10 am on Saturday, December 7th at McLane Park. Registration will start at 9:30 am.

MOTORISTS WARNED TO KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR DEER
With temperatures starting to drop, Missouri motorists are being advised to watch for deer.
Officials say that deer are more active and create hazards for Missouri motorists at this time of year.
The majority of deer strike crashes occur in November each year, with most happening in the 6 to 7 am and 6 to 9 pm timeframes.
Last year, drivers in Missouri experienced 3,591 traffic crashes where deer-vehicle strikes occurred. In these crashes, there were four fatalities and 420 people were injured.
Drivers are reminded that an attempt to avoid striking a deer could result in a more serious crash involving oncoming traffic. As soon as you see a deer, the best course of action is to reduce your speed gradually while watching other traffic around you.
If you do strike a deer, move your vehicle to a safe location and call 9-1-1 or *55 on a cell phone and report it.

THREE RIVERS COLLEGE FALL STUDENT CONCERT SET FOR NOVEMBER 19TH
Three Rivers College students will be sharing music with the community at a performance this month.
The Three Rivers College Music Department Fall Concert has been scheduled for 7 pm on Tuesday, November 19th at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS TO HOST PHOTO SESSION WITH SANTA NEXT MONTH
The Poplar Bluff Knights of Columbus are giving area children a chance to get their photos taken with Santa later next month.
From 8 to 11 am on Saturday, December 1st, the Knights of Columbus will be hosting a Christmas photo session with Santa.
Officials say that there will also be an appearance by Mrs. Clause as well.
The Knights of Columbus will be serving breakfast for donations during the photo session.
21st ANNUAL SANTA LAND EVENT TO BE HELD NEXT MONTH IN POPLAR BLUFF
The 21st Annual Santa Land event has been scheduled for next month in Poplar Bluff.
According to Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation, the event will be held on Tuesday, December 3rd, from 5:30 pm to 8 pm at the Black River Coliseum. The portion for individuals with special needs will begin at 5:30 pm.
During the event, children will get to visit with Santa and participate in many fun holiday activities. Registration is required and there are limited time slots available.

HUNTERS ENCOURAGED TO SHARE THEIR HARVEST WITH FAMILIES IN NEED
Hunters across the state of Missouri are being asked to share their harvest this fall to help feed families in need.
The Missouri Department of Conservation Share the Harvest program provides food to the hungry through deer meat donated by hunters.
Hunters can choose to give part or all of any deer they harvest. They simply bring their deer to an approved meat processor to process the venison, usually into ground meat, where it is then packaged for distribution.
Share the Harvest is a statewide partnership between MDC, the Conservation Federation of Missouri, cooperating meat processors, and hunters.

POPLAR BLUFF RESIDENTS REMINDED TO REMOVE POLITICAL SIGNS
The election is over and Poplar Bluff officials say that it’s time to remove the political signs.
According to the City of Poplar Bluff City Hall Facebook Page, if you were a candidate or worked for a campaign, it is your responsibility to remove campaign signs.
The signs should be gone within 10 days of the election.
