WATER LEAK PROMPTS BOIL WATER ORDER IN NEELYVILLE
A Butler County community is under a boil water order today.
According to officials with the city of Neelyville, a water leak Monday morning caused the city to lose all water pressure.
Crews worked all day Monday to get the leak repaired and restore water service to area residents. The lack of water did force the cancellation of classes for Neelyville schools on Monday.

MISSING WOMAN INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
Authorities in Southeast Missouri are trying to locate a missing woman.
According to Bollinger County Sheriff Casey Graham, on September 29th, the Sheriff’s Office received information concerning a missing person.
The person was identified as Leah Lamb. Graham says Lamb has a registered address in Saint Louis, but is believed to have been residing within Bollinger County.
Lamb is described as a forty-two year old white female with blonde hair. She is five feet, one inch tall and weighs one hundred and twenty pounds.
Anyone with information on Lamb’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Bollinger County Sheriff’s Office at 573-238-2633.
OVER 500 THOUSAND DOLLARS IN GRANT MONEY AWARDED TO NEW CULINARY ARTS CENTER
The Poplar Bluff Technical Career Center has been awarded over half of a million dollars to go towards the construction of a new center for students.
According to school officials, $513,000 in grant money has been awarded toward the Culinary Arts Center at the PBTCC.
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has announced that the Poplar Bluff R-I school district was among 17 that applied for the 50/50 matching grant that was awarded through the Area Career Center Construction fund bill.
The facility will feature a foyer with a reception area, private dining room, restrooms, dry storage, deep freezer, office overseeing the kitchen, and an expanded workstation that includes a pizza oven, indoor smoker, and double the number of fryers, flattop grills, and range ovens.
ARREST MADE IN SIKESTON HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION
An arrest has been made in connection to a Southeast Missouri homicide investigation.
According to Sergeant Tyler Rowe with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, Carolyn Hann, of Sikeston, was found dead at an area residence on Monday, September 18th.
An investigation into the death led to the arrest of 37 year old Fabayan Larry, of Sikeston.
Larry is currently being held on a no bond warrant for 1st degree murder and armed criminal action.
SHOULDER REPAIRS TO BEGIN TODAY ON US ROUTE 60 IN BUTLER COUNTY
Multiple work zones will be set up beginning today on US Route 60 in Butler County.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, shoulder repairs will be taking place at the northbound on and off ramps from Route AA to Route 60, the southbound on and off ramp from Route T to Route 60, and the eastbound U.S. 60 ramp to U.S. 67 south.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Tuesday, October 10th.
During the repairs, there will be a 10 foot width restriction in the work zones.
CULVERT REPLACEMENTS WILL FORCE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF VAN BUREN ROAD
Route D in Carter County will be closed today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace several culverts under the roadway.
The section of roadway being closed is located from Business 60 to Deann Street in Van Buren.
Weather permitting, work will be performed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.

The eight teams who will be playing in the 2023 Poplar Bluff Showdown have been released.
Poplar Bluff Athletics Director Kent Keith tells KWOC News that the field will include teams from five different states.
Poplar Bluff will be joined by New Madrid County Central and Christian Brothers from Missouri, Vilonia from Arkansas, McCracken County from Kentucky, and Urbana from Illinois along with Memphis East and Germantown from Tennessee.

ONE DEAD FOLLOWING CRASH NEAR CARDWELL
A weekend motorcycle crash in Dunklin County caused the death of an Arkansas woman.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 62 year old Carl Martin, of Elizabeth, Arkansas, was riding the motorcycle on US Highway 412 when the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.
A passenger on the vehicle, 62 year old Letha Martin, also of Elizabeth, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a Paragould hospital.
FALL BUFF UP THE BLUFF COMING ON OCTOBER 14TH
The 2023 Fall Buff up the Bluff event is set for later this month.
The citywide clean up event has been scheduled for Saturday, October 14th.
Henson’s Transfer Station on the Industrial Park Bypass will be accepting items from 8 am to 3 pm. Proof of Poplar Bluff residency will be required.

LORRIE DUCKWORTH APPOINTED STODDARD COUNTY PUBLIC ADMINISTRATOR
A new Public Administrator has been selected for Stoddard County.
Missouri Governor Mike Parson tells KWOC News that he has appointed Lorrie Duckworth to the position.
Duckworth has served as a deputy juvenile officer for the 35th Judicial Circuit in Stoddard County since 2013. She previously owned and operated an in-home daycare center.
Duckworth was one of four appointments Governor Parson announced on Friday to positions across the state.
BRIDGE OVER MISSISSIPPI RIVER TO BE CLOSED BEGINNING TODAY
A bridge connecting Missorui and Illinois will be closed for a year beginning today.
According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, the US Highway 60/62 bridge over the Mississippi River will be closed to all traffic through October 1st 2024.
Officials say that the closure is necessary to perform major structural repairs. A marked detour will be in place to direct motorists.
POPLAR BLUFF AREA ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS
The West Outer Road in Butler County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.
The section of roadway being worked on is located from Route M to County Road 476 near Poplar Bluff.

NEW MADRID COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR BRIDGE MAINTENANCE

FALL FIREARMS TURKEY SEASON TO BEGIN THIS WEEKEND IN MISSOURI
The fall firearms turkey season will begin this weekend in Missouri.
According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, the season will run from October 1st through October 31st. The hours for hunting will be from one-half hour before sunrise to sunset each day.
Hunters may take two turkeys of either sex during the season and there are restrictions on the type of firearms that may be used.

AREA WOMAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR DRUG AND GUN CHARGES
An area woman has been sentenced to a decade in prison for multiple charges.
Officials with the United States Attorney’s Office tell KWOC News that in January of this year, a search warrant was executed at the residence of 64 year old Paula Laboone in Kennett. During the search, numerous bags and baggies containing over two pounds of methamphetamine packaged for sale were seized from the living room and bedroom of the residence.
Additionally, a semi-automatic pistol was seized from the bedroom. Laboone was later interviewed and admitted to buying and selling methamphetamine for several months. She further admitted that the firearm was hers and she was aware she could not possess it.
Laboone has previous felony convictions for possession of controlled substances in Dunklin County and is therefore prohibited from possessing firearms.
On Thursday, Laboone was sentenced to serve 120 months in federal prison for the offenses of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon.
RAIDER MADNESS EVENT SET FOR SUNDAY TO COINCIDE WITH FIRST BASKETBALL PRACTICE FOR THREE RIVERS MEN’S AND WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Raider Madness is coming this weekend to the Libla Family Sports Complex in Poplar Bluff.
The event will celebrate the first practice of the season for both the Men’s and Women’s Three Rivers College Basketball teams.
Doors will open at 2 pm on October 1st, with the event starting at 3 pm.
There will be a three-point contest, dunk contest, cheer performance, women’s scrimmage, and men’s scrimmage.
POPLAR BLUFF POM SQUAD KIDDIE CAMP SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEK
The Poplar Bluff Pom Squad is holding a dance camp for students in preschool through 6th grade next week.
The camp is scheduled to be held at the O’Neal Elementary FEMA Gymnasium from 6 to 7:30 pm on October 2nd, 3rd, and 5th.
The cost is $25 per child and will include a T-shirt.
A performance will be held following the camp on Monday, October 9th during the Mules Freshman football game at the High School Football field.

The Mules Café, located in the R-1 Administrative Building on North Westwood Boulevard, is open to the public from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday and Friday each week, unless school is out.
This year will be a little different as the culinary arts class is anticipating a midyear move from the Administrative Building to the Poplar Bluff Technical Career Center campus in the state-of-the-art Culinary Arts Center, which is about midway through construction.

NEELYVILLE MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES
A Neelyville man is facing multiple drug related charges following his arrest Tuesday night.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 46 year old Benjamin Buhler was taken into custody on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine.
Buhler is also facing a charge of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
Following the arrest, he was held in the Butler County Jail.
BUTLER COUNTY FAIR BEGINS TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF
The Butler County Fair is kicking off today in Poplar Bluff.
The three day fair is set for today through Saturday at its new home, the Poplar Bluff Motorsports Park.
Multiple events are scheduled for the fair this year, including the donkey races tonight, the Chalk Bluff Rodeo Company on Friday, and the Tractor and Truck Pull on Saturday.
The Black River Coliseum will be hosting the fair exhibits and silent auction over all three days, as well as the Butler County Fair Beauty Pageant on Friday.

QULIN HOMECOMING PLANNED FOR OCTOBER 7TH
October 7th will mark the return of the Qulin Homecoming.
Organizers say that the opening ceremony will begin at 10:30 am and will be immediately followed by the parade, which will start on 5th Street.
There will also be events and vendors available after the parade including the rock, paper, scissors tournament, the car show, and outhouse races, as well as the Bake and Cake wars.

TURKEY HUNTERS ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT FEATHERS
Missouri turkey hunters are being encouraged to save and submit feathers from birds they harvest this fall.
Officials with the Missouri Department of Conservation tell KWOC News that the feathers will be used for a research project that will improve their ability to estimate turkey abundance across Missouri.
Hunters who successfully harvest a turkey during either the Archery Deer and Turkey Season or Fall Firearms Turkey Season can voluntarily submit feathers from their turkey at no cost.
Interested hunters are asked to retain a wing and three to five feathers from the breast after Telechecking their turkey. They will then be mailed a feather submission packet, including a postage-paid return envelope to submit the feathers.

State Troopers Adam Shipley and Joshua Schuenemeyer, along with Captain Barry Morgan, of the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office, will be awarded with the Medal of Valor for exceptional courage and heroism in an attempt to protect or save human life.

Missouri Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe will present the three with their medals during an event in Jefferson City on Thursday.
TWO INJURED, ONE FACING CHARGES, IN CONNECTION TO SOUTHEAST MISSOURI CRASH
Two people were injured in a crash Tuesday in Southeast Missouri.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 34 year old Cody Gaither, of Advance, was driving on Missouri Highway 25 shortly after noon when his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, came back onto the roadway, and then struck a vehicle.
Gaither suffered serious injuries in the crash, while the driver of the second vehicle received minor injuries. Both were transported to a Cape Girardeau hospital.
According to an arrest report issued by the Highway Patrol, Gaither is facing charges of driving while intoxicated - alcohol and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway resulting in an accident.
POPLAR BLUFF ROTARY CLUB DONATES $1,500 TO LAKE ROAD ELEMENTARY
The Rotary Club of Poplar Bluff has donated over $1,000 to an area school.
According to school officials, the Rotary Club has made a $1,500 donation to Lake Road Elementary, renewing its long-term partnership over the Good Habits Store, which was established during the 2012/13 school year.
The Good Habits store gives Lake Road students the opportunity to accumulate points for perfect attendance and behavior, and spend those points in the store which is stocked with snacks, clothing, school supplies and small gift items.
Steve Hicks, Rotary Club president, says that the Good Habits Store has remained one of the civic organization’s primary philanthropic endeavors.
MDC CONSIDERING CHANGES TO TURKEY HUNTING REGULATIONS
The Missouri Department of Transportation is considering changes to turkey hunting regulations in the state and wants the opinions of hunters from across the state.
The MDC is seeking input from turkey hunters on possible changes to spring and fall wild turkey hunting seasons, including all-day spring hunting and reduced harvest limits for fall seasons.
Missouri’s spring turkey hunting season, specifically the start date, was designed to take place after the peak in turkey breeding had occurred. Research indicates that the current season structure, combined with the reproductive ecology of turkeys, has resulted in relatively low harvest rates on juvenile and adult gobblers over the years.
Changes are also being considered for fall turkey hunting regulations that aim to balance the wellbeing of the turkey population while trying to maximize hunting opportunities.
Turkey hunters can go online to mdc.mo.gov for more information on potential regulation changes and to provide their comments. The comment period closes October 6th.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE INVESTIGATING CONFRONTATION THAT INCLUDED GUNSHOTS BEING FIRED
Authorities in Poplar Bluff are investigating a confrontation from over the weekend that included shots being fired.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, shortly after 2 pm on Sunday, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 1100 block of West Maud Street.
At the scene officers found spent shell casings in the roadway.
Officials say that surveillance video from a nearby residence captured a red passenger car stopping and two male subjects on foot approaching the car.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON METH CHARGE
A Butler County man was taken into custody Monday morning on a felony drug charge.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 22 year old Dylan Powell, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested at around 9:30 am on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine.
Powell is also facing a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He also reportedly had two warrants out of Butler County.
Following the arrest, Powell was held in the Butler County Jail.
SENIOR HEALTH FAIR SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER IN POPLAR BLUFF
A health fair for area residents ages 50 and up will be held today in Poplar Bluff.
The 26th Annual free Senior Health Fair from the Butler County Community Resource Council and AmeriCorps Seniors, has been scheduled for 10 am to 2 pm at the Twin Towers in Poplar Bluff.
There will be multiple services available, including health screenings, vaccinations, community resource information, and more.

HIGHWAY 60 OVERPASS CONSTRUCTION PROJECT UNDERWAY
Construction of a new overpass on Route 60 in New Madrid County is underway.
The new overpass for Ingram Road is located between Route 61 and Interstate 55 near Sikeston.
For the initial phase, Route 60 will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction as contractor crews set a temporary barrier wall for this project.
The next phase will start on Friday, October 6th. During this time, the roadway will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction for construction of the overpass at Ingram Road. Completion is anticipated by Monday, July 1st, 2024.
The work zone will be marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
ROAD CONSTRUCTION PLANNED FOR TODAY NEAR CAMPBELL

WOMAN SHOT WITH A FLARE GUN IN POPLAR BLUFF, ONE IN CUSTODY
A subject is in custody after a woman was reportedly shot with a flare gun in Poplar Bluff.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, at around 8:30 pm Thursday night, officers responded to the 800 block of West Maud Street following a report of the incident.
The victim was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital and then flown to a St. Louis hospital for treatment.

PRESIDENT BIDEN APPROVES FEDERAL DISASTER DECLARATION FOR 33 MISSOURI COUNTIES INCLUDING WAYNE AND NEW MADRID
President Joe Biden has approved a major disaster declaration to provide federal assistance in 33 Missouri counties in response to multiple severe weather systems that impacted the state from July 29th through August 14th.
Southeast Missouri counties involved in the request include Wayne, New Madrid, Madison, and Bollinger.
According to Missouri Governor Mike Parson’s office, Joint Preliminary Damage Assessments conducted by SEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and local emergency managers estimate more than $14 million in infrastructure damage and emergency response costs eligible for federal assistance.
Local governments and qualifying nonprofit agencies may seek federal assistance for reimbursement of emergency response and recovery costs, including repair and replacement costs for damaged roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure.
ROADS IN KENNETT TO BE BLOCKED OFF TOMORROW FOR THE DELTA FAIR PARADE
Tuesday marks the beginning of the Delta Fair in Kennett and city officials are warning motorists that some streets will be closed tomorrow evening.
According to the Kennett Police Department, officers will not allow any west bound traffic on First Street or Saint Francis Street, due to the parade, which is scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm.
If you see anything suspicious during this week’s Delta Fair, Kennett Police Chief Kenny Wilson says you should contact the Kennett Police Department at 573-888-4622 or call 911 if it is an emergency.
There will also be officers on the fairgrounds to assist the public.
NATIONWIDE EMERGENCY ALERT TEST SCHEDULED FOR EARLY OCTOBER
A National Emergency Alert test will be conducted in early October.
According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, a one minute test alert will be sent to cell phones, radio, and television on Wednesday, October 4th at 1:20 pm.
Officials say that the test is done to ensure that alert systems are effective to warn the public about emergencies.
CARTER COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY AS CREWS REPLACE A CULVERT
Route J in Carter County will be closed for most of this week so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can replace a culvert under the roadway.
The section of roadway being closed is located from Pine Knot Road to County Road 174.
Weather permitting, work will be performed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Thursday.
BRIDGE REPAIRS SCHEDULED FOR TODAY NEAR DEXTER
Route 114 in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge repairs.
The bridge involved in the project is located from County Road 717 to County Road 725 near Dexter.
Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The Mules will welcome the Sikeston Bulldogs for the annual homecoming football game at Poplar Bluff High School, with kickoff scheduled for 7 pm.

PUXICO MAN KILLED AFTER BEING STRUCK BY TRACTOR TRAILER IN STODDARD COUNTY
One man is dead after being struck by a tractor trailer in Stoddard County.
Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the accident happened at approximately 1 pm Thursday afternoon.
The tractor trailer was going northbound on County Road 477, around five miles north of Dudley, when it struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway.
The pedestrian, 31 year old William Vanover, of Puxico, was pronounced dead at the scene by Stoddard County Coroner Brent Stidham.
MAJORITY OF NEELYVILLE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS RESIGN
The Neelyville School Board meeting came to an early end Thursday night.
Four of the seven members of the board announced their resignations at the meeting, including President Vernon Barker and Vice President Dean Fisher.
The other board members to resign were Retired Lieutenant Commander Bob Burgett and Wayne Willcut.

RODEO SET FOR TONIGHT AT THE STODDARD COUNTY FAIR
The 96th Stoddard County Fair is continuing tonight and on Saturday with multiple events at the Stoddard County Fair Grounds.
At 7 pm tonight, the rodeo is scheduled to begin at Arena A. Other entertainment scheduled for tonight include Jason Brown and Robinson Chainsaw Carvers.
There are numerous events set for Saturday, including the buyers breakfast, the 4H and FFA livestock auction, and demo derby.

TWIN RIVERS MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER APPROVED FOR MUSIC GRANT
A middle school teacher in Fisk has been approved for grant money for her students.
Alicia Anderle, of Twin Rivers Fisk Middle School, has been awarded a $1,000 music grant by the Peter R. March Foundation.
Anderle tells KWOC News that she plans to use the grant money to purchase ukuleles for her middle school music class.
The students will learn how to play the instruments and then perform for area senior citizens, including at retirement and nursing homes.
PARAGOULD MAN ARRESTED ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGE
A Northeast Arkansas man is in custody following his arrest on a child pornography charge.
According to the Jonesboro Police Department, a report was made that 31 year old Cortez Borders, of Paragould, had sent sexually explicit videos and photos of juvenile females to someone he had met on a dating app.
Borders was questioned about the messages and stated there were more images of child exploitation on his phone.
A bench warrant was issued for Borders arrest on September 20th, and he was transported to the Craighead County Detention Center on a charge of distributing, possessing, or viewing matter depicting sexual conduct involving a child.
He has appeared for his probable cause hearing and received a $150,000 cash or surety bond.

MOUNTAIN LION SPOTTED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
A mountain lion was spotted last week in Southeast Missouri.
According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, they were notified on September 12th that an adult elk had been killed in Shannon County.
Members of MDC’s Large Carnivore Response Team traveled to the area and confirmed that a mountain lion caused the death through careful inspection of the scene.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO METH ARREST IN CLAY COUNTY
One subject was taken into custody following an early morning meth arrest in Clay County.
According to Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole, at around 1:30 am on September 18th, a deputy conducted a traffic stop in Corning for a traffic violation.
A search was conducted during the stop which resulted in the discovery of a baggie that tested positive for methamphetamine.
58 year old Carl Davis, of Corning, was taken into custody and booked into the Clay County Detention Center for felony possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
HUNTER EDUCATION CLASS TO BE HELD IN POPLAR BLUFF
A hunter education class will be held next month in Poplar Bluff.
The Hunter Education Fall Skills Session has been scheduled for Wednesday, October 11th at the Poplar Bluff R-1 Central Office from 5 to 9 pm. Students can sign in beginning at 4:45 pm.

BUTLER COUNTY WELLNESS COUNCIL HOSTING WALKING TOURS IN OCTOBER
The Butler County Wellness Council will be hosting multiple walking tours of historic locations in Downtown Poplar Bluff next month.
According to officials, the Walk-tober 2023 tours will be held every Saturday in October.
The Wellness Council, along with the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation Department, Community Resource Council, and Butler County Health Department is also offering a month-long walking competition during October.

According to the Ellsinore Police Chief Kelly Hampton, the Ellsinore Police Department received a report at approximately 12:45 pm Tuesday of a child being possibly struck by a vehicle.
Officers responded to the area and a juvenile was flown from the scene to an area hospital.
Hampton says that no further details are being released as an investigation is ongoing

DONIPHAN MAN KILLED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK
A Doniphan man was killed in a single vehicle wreck Tuesday afternoon.
Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 42 year old Michael Boone was driving on US Highway 160, seven miles west of Doniphan, when his vehicle ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree.
Boone was pronounced dead at the scene by Ripley County Coroner Mike Jackson.
POPLAR BLUFF JUNIOR HIGH GETS SECOND THERAPY DOG
Poplar Bluff Junior High School has gotten a second therapy dog.
School officials say that the Junior High is the first R-I school to add a second certified therapy dog, this one designated to serve students with special needs.
Tufte, an English Labrador who turned two last month, was introduced this school year to handler Courtney Rutledge’s Life Skills class with help from Christy Frazier-Moore, of the building’s Bright Futures Site Council.
Taking care of Tufte has been tied into the goals of Rutledge’s classroom. Students with functional disabilities walk the dog on a leash and clean up afterward, measure out his food – and if they score high enough on their behavior chart, earn the privilege of giving him a treat.
During the transition between class periods, Life Skills students take Tufte into the hallway to engage with the rest of the student body.
ASSEMBLY YOUTH MINISTRY TO HIGHLIGHT TONIGHT AT THE STODDARD COUNTY FAIR

TRC CHAMPIONSHIP COLLEGE RODEO TO BEGIN OCTOBER 5TH
Three Rivers College and the Sikeston Jaycees are teaming up to host the Championship College Rodeo next month.
The Rodeo has been scheduled for October 5th through the 7th at the Art Saunders Arena at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo grounds.
The Championship is National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association-sanctioned and will feature top competitors from 15 college rodeo teams in the Association’s Ozark Region.
Events will include bull riding, bareback bronc riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling, and more.

FARMERS URGED TO TAKE STEPS TO KEEP MOTORISTS AND THEMSELVES SAFE
With Harvest Season underway, farmers are urged to take steps to protect themselves and other motorists while on Missouri highways.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, in 2022, there were 177 Missouri traffic crashes involving farm equipment or implements.
Farmers are being asked to make sure your farm equipment is properly marked with lights and a “slow-moving vehicle” emblem when you travel on the roadway. If traffic accumulates behind you on the road where it is difficult to make a safe pass, pull off onto the side of the road in a level area, so vehicles can pass.
ATVs being used for farming can only travel on highways during daylight hours and must be equipped with lights, a bicycle flag, and a "slow-moving vehicle" emblem.
The law requires anyone under the age of 18 to wear a safety helmet when operating an ATV; however, the Highway Patrol recommends operators wear a safety helmet regardless of age.
DONIPHAN ROAD PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY
Road crews will be working beginning today in downtown Doniphan.
According to city officials, contractors will be sealing cracks in the downtown area along Washington Street from the courthouse to Walnut Street.
The north lane going west will be shut down today followed by the south side lane going east being shut down on Thursday.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid this area if possible and choose another route.

A Three Rivers College Rodeo Team member was flown to a St. Louis hospital on Saturday following a training accident.
According to the Rodeo Team’s facebook page, Freshman Annika Olson, from Red Bud, Illinois, was exercising with her horse at the team ranch on Saturday when the accident occurred.

FOUL PLAY SUSPECTED IN SIKESTON DEATH
The SEMO Major Case Squad has started an investigation into the death of a Sikeston woman.
According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, they were contacted Monday morning at around 9 am about a suspected missing person.
Officers responded to the home of the missing person, 49 year old Carolyn Hann, and found her deceased.
Officials say that officers suspected foul play and activated the SEMO Major Case Squad.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information concerning the case is asked to contact the Sikeston Department of Public Safety at 573-471-4711 or make a report anonymously by calling 573-475-3774.
MANY MIGRATORY BIRD SEASONS ARE UNDERWAY IN MISSOURI
Many migratory bird seasons are underway in Missouri and the Missouri Department of Conservation is reminding hunters to follow regulations and to always hunt safely.
According to the MDC, Dove season has started and runs through November 29th. Seasons for other migratory birds that are in progress include Teal which is through September 24th, Sora and Virginia rails which is through November 9th, and Snipe which is through December 16th.
The American Woodcock season runs from October 15th through November 28th.

EARTHQUAKE SHAKES SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
A small earthquake shook Southeast Missouri this past weekend.
According to the United States Geological Survey, a 2.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 1:42 am Saturday morning.
The quake was located five and a half miles north of New Madrid and had a depth of over seven miles.
MOTORISTS AND FARMERS URGED TO STAY ALERT ON ROADWAYS
Many area farmers will soon be starting or are already in the process of harvesting their crops and the Missouri State Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to be prepared for heavier farm machinery traffic, especially on rural highways.
When you come up behind a tractor or other farm machinery, remember to slow down and be patient. Wait to pass until you have a clear view of the road ahead and there is no oncoming traffic. Never pass on a hill or curve.
Officials say that collisions commonly occur when a motorist tries to pass a left-turning farm vehicle. A tractor that appears to be pulling to the right side of the road to let motorists pass, instead may be preparing to make a wide left turn.
Be sure to watch the farmer’s hand and light signals closely.

A train derailed early Friday morning in Southeast Missouri.
According to the Scott City Fire Department, the derailment occurred before 1:40 am on Highway P in Scott County between County Roads 277 and 266.
18 cars were fully derailed in the incident, however officials say that all of the hazardous material cars were still safe and secured on the tracks.

TWO ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO PURSUIT THAT SPANNED FROM POPLAR BLUFF TO NORTHEAST ARKANSAS
Two people are in custody in connection to a pursuit that began in Poplar Bluff on Friday.
According to Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole, at around 6 pm Friday, the Poplar Bluff Police Department notified the Clay County Sheriff’s Department to be on the lookout for a Dodge Avenger with two black females.
The PBPD had been in a pursuit with the subjects after they allegedly were caught stealing from an area location.
A Clay County deputy observed the vehicle north of Corning and tried to make a traffic stop, however the vehicle attempted to flee the area. The pursuit came to an end a mile east of Pollard after the vehicle ran over a set of spike strips. Cole says that the driver of the vehicle tried to hit a deputy’s truck when they boxed the subjects in.
Two subjects were taken into custody, the driver, 46 year old Demetria Davis, and a passenger, 40 year old Starnita Brown, both of Blytheville.
Davis has been charged with fleeing, driving on suspended driver’s license, possession of drug paraphernalia, theft by receiving and aggravated assault. Brown is facing charges of fleeing, possession of drug paraphernalia, and theft by receiving.
FREIGHTLINER DRIVER KILLED IN SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH
The driver of a freightliner was killed in a crash Sunday morning near Dudley.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 22 year old Noah Rushing, of Dudley, was driving on Highway WW when his vehicle ran off the side of the roadway, overcorrected, and then struck an embankment.
Rushing was pronounced dead at the scene by Stoddard County Coroner Brent Stidham.
NEELYVILLE TO NOT HAVE SCHOOL MONDAY DUE TO WATER OUTAGE
Some Butler County students are getting an unexpected three day weekend.
Neelyville R-4 Superintendent Heather Black tells KWOC News that the school district will not be in session on Monday.
The cancellation is due to a water outage in the city.
Black says that Monday will be AMI Day 1 for students.
VAN BUREN MAN CHARGED WITH STATUTORY SODOMY
A Van Buren man has been formally charged following allegations of sexual misconduct.
According to the Drug and Crime Control Division of the Missouri State Highway Patrol on September 7th, they received a request from the Carter County Prosecuting Attorney and the Carter County Sheriff’s Office to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct involving 45 year old Thomas Keeney.
Interviews were then conducted which resulted in Keeney’s arrest.
He was formally charged on September 14th by the Carter County Prosecuting Attorney with three counts of statutory sodomy.
Keeney is being held in the Carter County Jail and no bond has been set.
VEHICLE STRUCK BY A TRAIN IN PEMISCOT COUNTY, ONE DEAD
A Kennett woman is dead after her vehicle was struck by a train in Pemiscot County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 32 year old Heather Wyrick was driving on County Road 260 when she crossed a set of train tracks into the path of an oncoming locomotive.
The incident occurred at around 2:30 pm Thursday afternoon.
Wyrick was pronounced dead at the scene by Assistant Pemiscot County Coroner Jess Cagle.

The initial archery season will run through November 10th and hunters are reminded that only one antlered deer may be taken before November 11th and only two antlered deer may be taken during the archery and firearms deer hunting seasons combined.
During archery season, hunters can use longbows, compound bows, and recurve bows of any draw weight, crossbows, and hand-held string-releasing devices, among other devices.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED ASSAULT AND WARRANT FOR ARMY DESERTION
A Poplar Bluff man is in custody following an alleged incident from earlier this week.
Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that Terry Bulliner is believed to have unlawfully entered a residence and assaulted an individual on Tuesday.
Bulliner was arrested Thursday at a location on Harper Street.
Formal charges of first degree burglary and assault have been requested. Dobbs says that Bullliner also has an outstanding warrant for desertion from the United States Army.
Bulliner is being held at the Butler County Justice Center.
TWO FLOWN FROM THE SCENE OF A CRASH IN NORTHERN POPLAR BLUFF
Emergency crews responded to the scene of a single vehicle crash Thursday in Poplar Bluff.
The crash occurred shortly before noon at the intersection of Westwood Boulevard and Oak Grove.
Two people, including one juvenile, were flown to St. Louis hospitals with serious injuries.
The Poplar Bluff Police Department, Fire Department, and Butler County EMS all responded to the scene.
COUNTERFEIT MONEY FOUND AT POPLAR BLUFF BUSINESS
Multiple instances of counterfeit money have been reported at a Poplar Bluff business.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, an employee at Munch and Pump on South Broadway reported they received a counterfeit $100 bill from a customer on September 9th.
On Wednesday, a second counterfeit $100 bill was found on the floor of the business.
Officials say that both bills were printed with “Motion Picture Purposes” on the face.
PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY FOR 32ND ANNUAL OLD GREENVILLE DAYS
Preparations are underway for the 32nd Annual Old Greenville Days.
According to the Wappapello Lake US Army Corps of Engineers, the annual event has been scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday at the Greenville Recreation Area.
Officials say the event will include arts, crafts, history, and music.

HUNTERS ENCOURAGED TO SHARE THEIR HARVEST WITH FAMILIES IN NEED
Hunters across the state of Missouri are being asked to share their harvest this fall to help feed families in need.
The Missouri Department of Conservation Share the Harvest program provides food to the hungry through deer meat donated by hunters.
Hunters can choose to give part or all of any deer they harvest. They simply bring their deer to an approved meat processor to process the venison, usually into ground meat, where it is then packaged for distribution.
Share the Harvest is a statewide partnership between MDC, the Conservation Federation of Missouri, cooperating meat processors, and hunters.

ONE DEAD FOLLOWING MOTORCYCLE WRECK IN DOWNTOWN POPLAR BLUFF
One person has died following a motorcycle crash in downtown Poplar Bluff.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Broadway and Pine Street shortly after 5 pm Wednesday evening.
Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol say that a truck pulled into the path of a motorcycle that was being driven by 36 year old Joseph Coble, of Greenville. Coble was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital where he was pronounced dead.

GLEN ALLEN RESIDENTS OFFERED 100 PERCENT PROPERTY BUYOUT THROUGH THE USDA
Residents that were affected by the deadly tornado that struck Glen Allen earlier this year are eligible for funds to help if they wish to relocate.
Representative Jason Smith tells KWOC News that Glen Allen homeowners are eligible for a 100 percent property buyout through the U.S Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service Emergency Watershed Protection Program.
The program provides federal funding to help residents relocate out of flood prone areas. The USDA is also providing up to $5,000 to help tenants move.
According to the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency, five people were killed and multiple people were injured when the EF-2 tornado struck the small Bollinger County town in the early morning hours of April 5th. The tornado destroyed 21 homes and caused major damage to 25.
ONE IN CUSTODY IN CONNECTION TO TWO VEHICLE CRASH IN RIPLEY COUNTY
A Doniphan man is in custody following a multi vehicle wreck Tuesday in Ripley County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly before 3 pm when a vehicle driven by 34 year old Darren Vosburg crossed the center of Highway 142 and struck another vehicle.
The driver of the second vehicle, 71 year old Sonja Knowlton, of Doniphan, received minor injuries and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital. No injuries were listed for Vosburg.
According to an arrest report, Vosburg was arrested on felony charges of driving while intoxicated and no drivers license.
He was held in the Ripley County Jail.
AREA YOUTH BANDS INVITED TO ROCK THE HEARTLAND NEXT SPRING
Area youth bands are being invited to sign up for a big event coming up next Spring in Wayne County.
Rock the Heartland will be a music competition that will be held on May 4th in Greenville.
Greenville High School Music Director Kristen Englehart tells KWOC News that members of each entry should be between the ages of 12 and 18 and enrolled in a school. All music genres will be welcome at the competition for the chance to compete for the grand prize of $500.
There will be a $20 entry fee and the deadline to sign up is Thursday, February 29th. Students can also enter for feedback from the judges and not to compete.
Any extra proceeds from the event will go to the Greenville Music Department and the town of Greenville.

REWARD OFFERED FOR INFORMATION ABOUT ARSON AT KENNETT BUSINESS
A reward is available for information concerning a fire at a Southeast Missouri business.
According to the Kennett Police Department, a Reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the fire set at Lupita's Mexican Restaurant.
Fire fighting crews responded to the business on Monday, July 10th. Surveillance video captured the suspect as he set the fire. The suspect was wearing a blue shirt, blue cap and a black mask.

CREWS TO CLOSE A PEMISCOT COUNTY ROAD TODAY
Route Z in Pemiscot County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.
This section of roadway is located from County Road 456 to Route 164.

COAST TO COAST MOTORCYCLE RUN TO TRAVEL THROUGH SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
A Motorcycle run spanning from Virginia to California will be passing through Southeast Missouri today.
Close to 100 riders are participating in the 2023 edition of the Motorcycle Cannonball, which started on September 7th at Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The Motorcycle Cannonball is a cross-country challenge for riders with motorcycles that were manufactured in 1933 or earlier, and is the most difficult antique endurance run in the world.
The riders are departing Cape Girardeau this morning on their way to Branson for Stage Five of the event.
The 16 stage run will come to an end on September 24th at Oceanside, California.

POPLAR BLUFF TEACHER AWARDED GRANT FOR DRAMA PRODUCTION CLASS
Poplar Bluff Junior High drama students will be getting some extra funds for their production this year.
The newly created drama production class at Poplar Bluff Junior High was awarded $500 by the Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation.
Hilary Taylor authored the successful proposal, marking the third year in a row the teacher has received the MRTF grant.
One or more Poplar Bluff teachers have been selected as recipients annually through the foundation since 2017.
The budget outlined in Taylor’s write-up included lumber, foam sheets, screws and paint. There are presently 23 students enrolled in the year-long class. Taylor previously led a drama elective, which was only a semester, and additionally incorporated elements of public speaking.
With the expanded curriculum, students will research and evaluate different script choices, vote to determine which production they will audition for, and then put on a full-length play in the spring.
MAN FACING MURDER CHARGE IN CONNECTION TO SIKESTON HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION
A suspect is facing multiple charges, including first degree murder in connection to an incident on Monday.
Sergeant Tyler Rowe with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety tells KWOC News that officers were dispatched to a residence on Washington Street Monday morning for a report of an assault where one subject was suspected to be injured.
The victim, identified as 66 year old Curtis McKinney, was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.
During the course of the investigation a suspect was located and taken into custody.
The suspect, identified as Anthony Pearson, has been formally charged with Murder 1st Degree, Armed Criminal Action, and Burglary 1st Degree. He is currently being held without bond.
DUNKLIN COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY IN THE CAMPBELL AREA
Route WW in Dunklin County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.
The section of roadway being closed is located from Tucker Road to County Road 222 near Campbell.
Weather permitting, work will take place today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
SHOULDER WORK TO CAUSE DELAYS TODAY ON SOUTHBOUND INTERSTATE 55
Southbound Interstate 55 in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane today so construction crews can perform shoulder work.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the work zone is located from mile marker 60 to mile marker 58 near Matthews.

BUTLER COUNTY FAIR TO HAVE NEW HOME FOR 2023
The Butler County Fair is moving this year.
The 2023 Butler County Fair has been scheduled for September 28th through September 30th at Poplar Bluff Motorsports Park.
Multiple events are scheduled, including the rodeo, donkey races, and tractor pull.
The Black River Coliseum will be hosting the fair exhibits and silent auction over all three days, as well as the Butler County Fair Beauty Pageant on September 29th.

POPLAR BLUFF CHEERLEADING KIDDIE CAMP SCHEDULED FOR THIS MONTH
A Poplar Bluff Cheerleading Kiddie Camp for future cheerleaders ages 3 to 6th grade is set for this month.
The camp is scheduled to be held at the Poplar Bluff High School Auxiliary gym from 5:30 to 7 pm on September 18th through September 20th. Registration will begin at 5 pm on the 18th.
The cost is $30 per child and will include a T-shirt.
All Kiddie Camp Cheerleaders will then perform at either the 7th or 8th grade football games on Thursday, September 21st.
INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY FOLLOWING OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING IN FREDERICKTOWN
Two people have been taken into custody in connection to an officer involved shooting in Fredericktown.
According to the Fredericktown Police Department, at around 1:30 pm on Sunday, there was an officer involved shooting in the Fredericktown WalMart parking lot. One subject was arrested at the scene and a second subject was arrested later Sunday night at a Madison County residence.
No information has been released about who fired a weapon or if anyone was injured.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the incident.
FOUR INJURED, ONE SERIOUSLY, IN CRASH ON INTERSTATE 55
Four people were injured in a single vehicle crash Monday morning.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 52 year old Richard Chambers, of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, was driving on Interstate 55 in Pemiscot County when his vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a cable barrier.
Officials say that the vehicle then ran off the right side of the road, crossed over the west outer road, and ran into a field.
A passenger in the vehicle, 43 year old Sonja Martin, also of Crystal Springs, received serious injuries in the crash.
Chambers, along with two juveniles in the vehicle, had minor or moderate injuries. All four were transported to a Hayti hospital.
MULTI MONTH BRIDGE REPLACEMENT UNDERWAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY
Route A in Pemiscot County will be closed through the end of November so contractor crews can replace the bridge over Drainage Ditch 72.
This section of roadway being closed is located between County Road 286 and County Road 299 near Bragg City.
Weather permitting, work taking place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with the project completion anticipated by Friday, December 1st.
PAVEMENT REPAIR PROJECT BEGINS TODAY NEAR BLOOMFIELD
Route AB in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction for most of this month as crews perform pavement repairs.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the crews will be working between Route Y and Route 25, near Bloomfield.

A man who fled from a traffic stop in Dexter last month has been taken into custody.
Dexter Police Chief Hank Trout tells KWOC News that 28 year Chris Smith, of Poplar Bluff, fled from a traffic stop on August 12th near the area of Houston and Whitman street. Smith had an active warrant for his arrest and was not able to be located at the time.
Trout says that the US Marshall’s Office has been working with the Dexter Police Department and Marshalls were able to apprehend Smith on September 5th in Springfield.

PRICE INCREASE APPROVED FOR MDC PERMITS
The cost to hunt in Missouri will go up early next year.
The Missouri Conservation Commission gave final approval at its open meeting on Friday to adjust prices for most hunting, fishing, trapping, and commercial permits offered by the Missouri Department of Conservation.
The price increases will take effect beginning on February 29th, 2024.
On average, most resident hunting and fishing permit prices will be adjusted by about one dollar.
Officials say that most MDC permit prices have remained the same for the past 20 years.
MDC proposed the permit price adjustments in an effort to keep up with rising costs of goods and services it uses to manage its more than 1,000 conservation areas along with nature centers, shooting ranges, fish hatcheries, and other facilities.
WOMAN FLOWN TO MEMPHIS HOSPITAL FOLLOWING CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY
A Broseley woman was badly injured in a single vehicle crash early Sunday morning.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 23 year old Destanee Barton was driving on westbound US Highway 60 when her vehicle ran off the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned.
Officials say the crash occurred at around 3:10 am.
Barton suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was flown to a Memphis hospital.
THREE RIVERS COLLEGE TO HOST MEET THE RAIDERS EVENT
The Three Rivers College athletic season is fast approaching and area residents will have the opportunity to meet some of the players who will be representing the Raiders this year.
The college is hosting a “Meet the Raiders” event beginning at 6 pm this evening at the Libla Family Sports Complex.

IMBODEN MAN KILLED IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS WRECK
One man is dead in connection to an early morning crash in Randolph County.
According to the Arkansas State Police, 70 year old David Davis, of Imboden, crashed into the trailer of a mack truck early Friday morning at the intersection of US Highway 62 and Muddy Lane.
Officials say that Davis was pronounced dead at the scene by the Randolph County Coroner. No injuries were listed for the driver of the mack truck.
DRIVING SURFACE IMPROVEMENTS TO CAUSE DELAYS ON ROAD IN CARTER AND WAYNE COUNTIES
Missouri Department of Transportation crews will be making driving surface improvements on Route A in Carter and Wayne Counties through the middle of this week.
The section of roadway that will be affected by this project is located from Route 60 to Route 49 near Ellsinore.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Wednesday. During the project, Route A will be open to local traffic only.

TODAY IS THE DEADLINE TO PURCHASE TAGS FOR BULKY ITEM PICKUP
Today is the final day for Poplar Bluff residents to purchase tags for this month’s Bulky Item Pickup.
Residents can purchase bulk item tags from the City Collector’s office at City Hall for $20. The tags entitle you to the removal of four bulk items, such as couches or refrigerators. Tires may be collected for a charge of $3 per tire with a limit of four tires.
No construction materials or small items will be picked up and the program is for residential areas only.
Today is the final day to purchase item tags at City Hall to be included in next week’s pick up, which will be conducted on Tuesday, September 12th.
OVER 300 CRASHES REPORTED IN MISSOURI OVER LABOR DAY WEEKEND
State officials say that there were over 10 fatalities reported over the Labor Day holiday weekend.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 12 people were killed in traffic crashes during the counting period, which began at 6 pm on Friday, September 1st and ended at 11:59 pm on Monday.
There were a total of 306 traffic crashes, which resulted in 146 people injured. 119 people were also arrested for driving while impaired.
There were also 11 boating crashes over the weekend, resulting in two people injured and no fatalities.
CONSTRUCTION CREWS IMPROVING ROUTE 162 IN THE PORTAGEVILLE AREA
Construction crews are making driving surface improvements today on Route 162 in New Madrid County.
The work zone is located from Route M to Interstate 55 near Portageville.
Weather permitting, crews will be working today through 7 p.m. While work is underway, the road will be open to local traffic only.

WOMAN REPORTED MISSING EARLIER THIS WEEK TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
A woman who was reported missing earlier this week in Poplar Bluff is now in custody.
Lieutenant Josh Stewart with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News that 49 year old Debra Wright of Poplar Bluff, was reported missing on Monday and crews worked Monday and Tuesday searching in the area of the Sportsman Park Conservation Access on Black River in an attempt to find her.
Tuesday evening Wright contacted authorities through a third party saying she was alive and well.

JUVENILE RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL AFTER BEING RUN OVER DURING LABOR DAY PARADE
A child was run over during a Labor Day parade earlier this week.
According to Rector Chief of Police Roger Haywood, on Monday a pee-wee cheerleader for the Rector Cougars was walking next to a float when she slipped and fell partially under a small trailer.
Haywood says that the child suffered mild to moderate injuries and was transported to an area hospital. She has since been released.
POPLAR BLUFF STREET DEPARTMENT VEHICLES VANDALIZED
Poplar Bluff police have received a report of vandalism of city property.
According to the Police Department, an employee of the Poplar Bluff Street Department has reported that three city vehicles were vandalized over the holiday weekend.
No information was released on the amount of damages done to the vehicles or who was responsible.
POPLAR BLUFF BUSINESS TO RECEIVE ALMOST $400,000 GRANT
A Poplar Bluff business will be getting almost $400,000 for renewable energy efficiency improvements.
U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development and Missouri State Director Kyle Wilkens tells KWOC News Empire Comfort Systems is receiving a $388,088 grant to install an 850 Kilowatt solar array.
This project is expected to save $100,927 per year. It will generate over one million kilowatt hours per year which is enough energy to power 99 homes.
FEDERAL DISASTER DECLARATION REQUESTED FOR 33 MISSOURI COUNTIES INCLUDING WAYNE AND NEW MADRID
Missouri Governor Mike Parson has requested that President Joe Biden approve a major disaster declaration to provide federal assistance in 33 counties in response to multiple severe weather systems that impacted Missouri from July 29th through August 14th.
Southeast Missouri counties involved in the request include Wayne, New Madrid, Madison, and Bollinger.
According to the Governor’s office, Joint Preliminary Damage Assessments conducted by SEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and local emergency managers estimate more than $14 million in infrastructure damage and emergency response costs eligible for federal assistance.
If approved, local governments and qualifying nonprofit agencies may seek federal assistance for reimbursement of emergency response and recovery costs, including repair and replacement costs for damaged roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure.
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI WOMAN GETS LIFE SENTENCE ON MURDER CHARGE
A Southeast Missouri woman has been ordered to spend the rest of her life behind bars.
According to Missouri Case Net, 38 year old Ashley Riggins, of Charleston, was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison without parole on a charge of murder 1st degree.
The charge stems from the stabbing death of Dottie Lutes in 2020, which Riggins was found guilty of in April.
Riggins was also convicted of other charges including armed criminal action, tampering with physical evidence, abandonment of a corpse, and two counts of abuse or neglect of a child.
EARTHQUAKE SHAKES SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
A small earthquake shook parts of Southeast Missouri Tuesday night.
According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 2.2 earthquake was recorded at 10:29 pm Tuesday night.
The earthquake was located around two miles northwest of Marston and had a depth of over seven miles.
Officials say that residents as far away as Doniphan reported feeling the effects of the quake.
ROAD WORK SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN RIPLEY COUNTY
Route 142 East in Ripley County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform core drilling operations.
The work zone will be located near Naylor between Little Black River Bridge and County Road B-3AA.
Work is scheduled to take place today from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

WOMAN REPORTED MISSING IN POPLAR BLUFF FOUND
A woman who was reported missing on Monday in Poplar Bluff has been found.
Lieutenant Josh Stewart with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News that 49 year old Debra Wright of Poplar Bluff, is safe and no longer considered missing.
The Police Department received several tips Tuesday afternoon indicating Debra Wright may be alive. While they do not know for certain why Wright did not come forward immediately, authorities say she had an active warrant for a parole violation.

Wright sent a time stamped photo showing she was alive and well through a third party. The date and time were handwritten on a piece of paper in the picture. Authorities say this was enough to call off the search for her.
She was reported missing on Monday and crews worked Monday and Tuesday searching in the area of the Sportsman Park Conservation Access on Black River in an attempt to find her.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Poplar Bluff Police Department, Butler County Coroner’s Office, and Poplar Bluff Fire Department were all involved in the search.
CARTER COUNTY MOTORCYCLE CRASH LEADS TO ONE DEATH
A Clarkton man is dead in connection to a motorcycle crash on Labor Day.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 65 year old Chris Terrell was riding the motorcycle on Missouri Highway 21, near the intersection of US Highway 60, when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned.
Terrell was pronounced dead at the scene by the Carter County Coroner.
A passenger on the vehicle, 60 year old Regina Hawkins, also of Clarkton, received serious injuries and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.
MAN SHOOTS TASER AT OFFICERS DURING ARREST ATTEMPT
A man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly shot a taser at officers during an arrest attempt.
According to a warrant, on September 1st officers met at the home of 30 year old Governor Faulkner, in Paragould, after receiving a report from a 15 year old juvenile of attempted sexual abuse.
Faulkner had allegedly attempted to meet the juvenile, disseminated pictures of sexual explicit conduct, and requested videos and pictures of sexually explicit conduct from the victim.
When officers attempted to arrest Faulkner at his residence, the defendant unholstered the officer’s taser and fired the device two times in close proximity of two officers heads.
One of the prongs struck a patrol vehicle. The officer was able to regain control of the taser and the defendant began to comply.
The defendant also reportedly kicked officers during the incident. Both officers suffered multiple minor scrapes, bruises and cuts to the arms, hands, and knees.
Faulkner is facing charges of internet stalking of a child, possession or use of child sexual abuse material, disarming an officer, battery in the second degree, resisting arrest, and criminal mischief in the second degree. He is being held in the Greene County Detention Center on a two million dollar cash only bond.
SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH LEAVES ONE DEAD IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS
A single vehicle crash has claimed the life of a Northeast Arkansas man.
According to the Arkansas State Police, 59 year old Glen Cook, of Biggers, was a passenger in a vehicle on Biggers Reyno Road in rural Randolph County when the vehicle ran into a ditch.
The vehicle then struck a ditch embankment and overturned.
Officials say that Cook was killed in the crash. No injuries were listed for the driver.
KENNETT AREA ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR ROADWORK
Route UU in Dunklin County is being closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.
The work zone is located from Route NN to County Road 729 near Kennett.
Weather permitting, the closure is scheduled to be in effect today until 4 p.m.
PEMISCOT COUNTY ROAD CLOSED FOR CULVERT REPLACEMENT
Route Z in Pemiscot County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.
Officials say the section of roadway being closed is located from County Road 456 to County Road 431.
Weather permitting, crews will be at the work zone today through 4 pm.
