POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS VACANCY DURING MEETING TONIGHT
The Poplar Bluff City Council will be meeting tonight, with one of the things up for discussion being the ongoing vacancy on the council.
During a special session held last week, the council deadlocked on a motion made to appoint Billy DePew to fill the vacancy of an at-large seat caused by the resignation of Robert Duckett, who stepped down in June due to moving outside the city.
The motion failed with a tie vote of 3-3, with Councilmembers Horton, Smith, and Fox voting in approval. Councilmembers Parson, Massingham, and Cornman voted against the motion.

The regular meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 pm in the City Council Chambers.
OZARK BORDER ANNUAL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 11TH
The annual membership meeting of the Ozark Border Electric Cooperative will be conducted this week.
According to a letter sent to members, the meeting will be held at 2:30 pm on Friday, August 11th at the Ozark Border Headquarters on South Westwood Boulevard in Poplar Bluff.
Members will be voting on two bylaw changes, one would provide a larger time frame in which the nominating committee can work and clearly define when petitions for board candidates may be received. The other change would prohibit excessive campaign contributions.
Members will also be voting for the Board of Directors, with two candidates vying for the District 3 seat, Charles Bunting and Jeff Shawan.
Voting will be conducted on multiple dates and locations this week in the leadup to the meeting. Voting and registration will be available for all members Today at the Malden Ozark Border Office, on Tuesday at the Puxico Office, on Wednesday at the Van Buren Office, and on Thursday at the Doniphan Office. Those four locations will be open for voting on their respective dates from 9 am to 3 pm.
In Poplar Bluff, voting will be available at the Poplar Bluff Office on Friday from 7 am to 2 pm.
POPLAR BLUFF PARKS AND RECREATION TO HOST BACK TO SCHOOL BASH
The Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation Department is throwing one last party of the summer before kids start school.
The Free Back to School Bash has been scheduled for 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday, August 12th at Whiteley Park in Poplar Bluff.
There will be a mud volleyball tournament, kick ball, yard games, food trucks, and fun for the entire family.

DATE SET FOR DUCK BLIND DRAWING AT WAPPAPELLO LAKE
A date has been announced for the annual duck blind drawing at Wappapello Lake.
According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers the drawing and registration will be held at 9:00 a.m. on August 19th, at the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitors Center.
The registration fee is $15 and applicants must bring cash, a personal check, or money order.
Permitted duck blinds may be placed on the lake after Labor Day and must be removed from the lake, or transferred to a permitted storage cove, within two weeks of the closure of the zoned duck season.

CARTER AND RIPLEY COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED THIS WEEK FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS
Route O in Ripley and Carter County will be closed this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.
According to officials, the section of roadway being closed is located from Route 34 in Ripley County to Route 34 in Carter County near Grandin.
Weather permitting, work will take place today through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., daily.
CORE DRILLING TO CAUSE CLOSURE OF RIPLEY COUNTY ROAD THIS WEEK
Route 142 East in Ripley County will be closed so crews can perform core drilling operations.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the closure is located from Route N to Route E near Doniphan.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily, through Thursday. The road will be open to local traffic only.

Four members of the Poplar Bluff Junior High Pom Squad have been named All-Americans.
Poplar Bluff Athletics Director Kent Keith tells KWOC News that the squad recently participated in the National Dance Alliance Dance Camp and had seven dancers nominated to the All-American Team.
After auditions, Poplar Bluff’s Laynie Riggins, Aleigha Williams, Audrey Smith, and Charlie McCollough were selected for the All-American Team.

SALES TAX TO BE WAIVED IN ALL CITIES, COUNTIES, AND SPECIAL TAX DISTRICTS FOR MISSOURI SALES TAX HOLIDAY
Missouri’s annual back to school sales tax holiday is underway.
According to the Missouri Department of Revenue, the tax holiday began this morning and will run through Sunday, August 6th.
During this time, certain back-to-school purchases such as school supplies, computers, clothing and other qualifying items as defined by statute are exempt from all state and local sales tax.
Eligible items include clothing that does not have a taxable value of more than $100 and personal computers that do not cost more than $1,500, among other items.
Something that is new for this year, is that in addition to the state sales tax, local sales tax will also be waived in all cities, counties and special tax districts.

POPLAR BLUFF MULES TRAP TEAM FINISH IN 9TH PLACE IN THEIR DIVISION AT AIM NATIONALS
The Poplar Bluff Mules Trap Team finished in the top 10 of their division at the 2023 AIM National Youth Trap Shooting Championship.
According to Athletics Director Kent Keith, the Mules fielded a complete singles team who finished 9th out of 24 teams in the Junior Division, Class C, at the event.
The singles team consisted of Eli DePew, Mason Murphy Foster, Emma DaGaris, Abbigail Gillum and Cooper Cunningham.
The Mules also had two individual team members in Haiydn Winterbower and Dalton Rommel.
KENNETT MAN SENTENCED TO OVER 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR DISTRIBUTING METHAMPHETAMINE
A Kennett man will spend over a decade behind bars on multiple drug charges.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 35 year old Jammie Renfro, of Kennett, has been sentenced to serve 130 months in federal prison for the offenses of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine and Distribution of Methamphetamine.
Renfro admitted that between May and June of 2022, he was working with John Andrew Schoolcraft to distribute methamphetamine throughout Dunklin County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol utilized confidential informants and audio and video recording devices to
conduct controlled drug buys of methamphetamine from Renfro and the others involved.
The case culminated in the execution of a search warrant at Schoolcraft’s residence in Kennett where officers seized over four pounds of methamphetamine.
The case was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, assisted by the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force.
TODAY IS THE DEADLINE TO PURCHASE TAGS FOR BULKY ITEM PICKUP
Today is the final day for Poplar Bluff residents to purchase tags for this month’s Bulky Item Pickup.
Residents can purchase bulk item tags from the City Collector’s office at City Hall for $20. The tags entitle you to the removal of four bulk items, such as couches or refrigerators. Tires may be collected for a charge of $3 per tire with a limit of four tires.
No construction materials or small items will be picked up and the program is for residential areas only.
Today is the final day to purchase item tags at City Hall to be included in next week’s pick up, which will be conducted on Tuesday, August 8th.
BACK TO SCHOOL FAIR COMING TODAY TO CARTER COUNTY
Students in Carter County will have a chance to get ready for the upcoming school year today.
The Carter County Health Center's Back to School Fair is scheduled from 9 am to noon today at the Health Center..

DONIPHAN MAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT AND KIDNAPPING FOLLOWING INCIDENT ON MONDAY
A Doniphan man appeared in court Wednesday morning on numerous charges in connection to an incident on Monday.
According to Missouri Case Net, 35 year old Kevin King, has been charged with assault 1st degree, kidnapping 1st degree, assault 4th degree, unlawful possession of a firearm, resisting or interfering with an arrest for a felony, two counts of armed criminal action, and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.
According to a probable cause affidavit, on Monday, the Doniphan Police Department received information about a shooting that occurred at an area residence.

While Sheriff Mike Barton and deputies were en route to the residence, they pulled up to a crash on Ripley Route A-2. A juvenile stated that Kevin King and Donald Hines had fled the scene and forcibly took another juvenile back toward King’s residence. The victim was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.
When Sheriff Barton, his deputies, and Missouri State Highway Patrol Officers arrived at the residence, they ordered King to the ground. When one was attempting to apply handcuffs, King began to roll away, resisting arrest. After King was in custody
and secured in a vehicle, he then spit onto Sheriff Barton.
The first victim was interviewed at a Poplar Bluff hospital where they stated that King had shot them with a rifle. During an interview King admitted to officers that he shot the victim in the arm with the rifle.
EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT THURSDAY FOR PARTS OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND NORTHEAST ARKANSAS
An Excessive Heat Warning will be in effect today for parts of Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas.
According to the National Weather Service, some locations in our listening area could see dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 112 degrees are expected.
Some portions of Southeast Missouri that are not in the excessive heat warning area will be under a heat advisory from 11 am to 8 pm.
Take extra precautions if you have to work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and stay out of the sun if possible, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

MALDEN MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON ON MURDER CHARGE, TWO KENNETT MEN SENTENCED ON SEX RELATED CHARGES
A Malden man has been sentenced to life in prison on a murder charge.
Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Jain tells KWOC News that 38 year old Steven Michael Kirkwood, of Malden, has been sentenced to life in the Missouri Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to a charge of murder in the second degree.
The charge stems from the August 2020 shooting of Ryan Lehnig in Malden.
Jain has also announced that two men have been sentenced on sex related charges.
32 year old Travis Crane, of Kennett, was sentenced to 35 years for statutory sodomy in the first degree. Crane was also prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office and received 17 and a half years in the Federal Bureau of Prisons in the case.
28 year old Christopher Knuckles, of Kennett, was sentenced to 30 years for statutory rape in the first degree.
Jain stated that no further information will be released concerning their two cases to protect the victims.
SOUTHEAST HEALTH TO BECOME AFFILIATE OF MERCY
A Cape Girardeau based hospital has announced that it will be joining the Mercy multi-hosptial system.
Southeast Health has signed a definitive agreement with St. Louis-based Mercy.
According to its website, Southeast Health has over 60 locations across Southeast Missouri, including in Poplar Bluff, Dexter, and Malden.
The transaction is subject to closing conditions, including regulatory and other required third-party approvals.
Following such approvals, both organizations will be prepared to engage in a transition planning process that includes Mercy hosting community roundtable listening tours which are a tradition when it welcomes a new hospital into its health system.

OPEN ENROLLMENT BEGINS TODAY FOR DONIPHAN R-1
An open enrollment event will begin today for the Doniphan R-1 School District.
According to school officials, the event has been scheduled for 9 to 11 am and 1 to 3 pm both today and tomorrow at the Doniphan High School Library.
Open Enrollment is for all new students in Kindergarten through 12th grade.
No appointment is necessary and parents should remember to bring their child’s birth certificate, shot record, proof of residency, and social security card.
RIPLEY COUNTY FAIR TO BEGIN TODAY
The 2023 Ripley County Fair will kick off today.
Officials say that the fair will be held this year from today through August 5th at the Fairgrounds, south of Doniphan.
Multiple activities are planned for the four day event, including a beauty pageant, loggers relay, carnival, rodeo, truck pull, and more.

DEXTER RECEIVES $50,000 GRANT FOR WASTEWATER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS
A Southeast Missouri city will be getting grant money to evaluate its wastewater system.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $50,000 Clean Water Engineering Report Grant to the city of Dexter
Officials say that the grant will be used to identify wastewater system improvements needed to meet permit requirements and to continue reliable service to the area. The facility plan should be complete in January 2025.

DUNKLIN COUNTY ROAD TO BE REDUCED OVER TWO DAYS FOR BRIDGE MAINTENANCE
Route 62 in Dunklin County will be reduced both today and tomorrow as construction crews perform bridge maintenance.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the work zone will be located from County Road 217 to the Arkansas state line.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both today and tomorrow.

MAN DROWNS WHILE KAYAKING ON CURRENT RIVER
An area man drowned last week in Southeast Missouri.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 48 year old Jason Bollinger, of Birch Tree, was kayaking on Current River when he fell into the water and failed to resurface. The incident occurred Friday afternoon at Martin Hole, ten miles east of Eminence
Bollinger was later pronounced dead at the scene by the Shannon County Deputy Coroner.

DATES SET FOR OPEN HOUSE AND ORIENTATIONS IN THE POPLAR BLUFF R-1 SCHOOL DISTRICT
Parents in Poplar Bluff will have the opportunity to learn more about the schools their children will be attending this fall during a series of open houses scheduled for this month.
Open houses will be held for the Kindergarten, 5th, 6th, and 7th grades on Tuesday, August 15th. The 8th Grade Orientation will also be held on the 15th
The four elementary schools will be holding their Open Houses on Wednesday, August 16th.
On Thursday, August 17th, there will be the 4th grade and Poplar Bluff Technical Center Open Houses.
For Poplar Bluff High School, freshman orientation is set for August 16th, with the High School Open House following on August 17th.
Early Childhood Meet the teacher visits are scheduled for August 10th and 11th, as well as from the 15th through the 18th.
The first day of school has been scheduled for Monday, August 21st.

POPLAR BLUFF HOUSING AUTHORITY TO HOST BLOCK PARTY TONIGHT
The Poplar Bluff Housing Authority will be throwing a block party tonight.
The National Night Out Block Party will be held from 5 to 8 pm at the Housing Authority on North E Street.
The event will include food, games, a petting zoo, music, family activities, and more.
Officials say that the Block Party is to promote strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
JOSHUA UNDERWOOD APPOINTED AS CIRCUIT JUDGE FOR NEW MADRID AND PEMISCOT COUNTIES
An associate circuit judge has been promoted in Southeast Missouri.
Governor Mike Parson has announced that Joshua Underwood, of New Madrid, has been appointed as the Circuit Judge for the 34th Judicial Circuit, which covers New Madrid and Pemiscot Counties.
Underwood will succeed the late Honorable William Edward Reeves.
Underwood currently serves as an associate circuit judge for New Madrid County.
WREATHS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE FOR VETERAN WREATH PLACEMENT CEREMONY
You can now purchase a wreath that will be placed on the grave of a veteran later this year.
On December 16th, 2023, the Poplar Bluff Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in cooperation with Wreaths Across America, will hold a ceremony at the Poplar Bluff Memorial Gardens Cemetery to honor veterans buried there.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 am.
Everyone is invited to attend the ceremony, which will be followed by placing live wreaths on veteran’s graves.
Those who have purchased wreaths for a specific veteran in the cemetery may place the live wreaths on those graves.
Live wreaths are available for purchase at $17 each.

ONE DEAD, THREE INJURED, IN POPLAR BLUFF CRASH
One person is dead following a three vehicle crash in Poplar Bluff.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred Friday evening on East Pine Street when a vehicle driven by 34 year old Zea Hawley, of Poplar Bluff, crossed the center line and struck two other vehicles.
Butler County Coroner Jim Akers tells KWOC News that Hawley was pronounced dead at the scene.

One person in the second vehicle that was hit suffered serious injuries and was flown to a Cape Girardeau hospital. Two other people received moderate or minor injuries in the crash.
ONE ARRESTED FOLLOWING ARMED ROBBERY IN POPLAR BLUFF
One person has been taken into custody in connection to an armed robbery at a Poplar Bluff area business.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, shortly before 5 am Saturday morning, officers responded to a reported robbery at Mike's Resale on East Harper Street. An employee reported an adult male patron had flourished a knife and demanded money.
When the employee resisted, the suspect struck him in the side of his head with the knife, leaving a deep laceration. The suspect took approximately $1,300 from the employee and fled the scene.
Following an investigation, 41 year old Courtney Thompson, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested at his residence Saturday afternoon. Thompson is facing charges of robbery 1st degree, assault 1st degree, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon. He was lodged in the Butler County Jail.
The victim was transferred to a St. Louis hospital for treatment.
ONE YEAR OLD CHILD TREATED AT AREA HOSPITAL FOR OVERDOSE
A young child was treated at a Poplar Bluff hospital for a drug overdose.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, shortly after 7 am on Thursday, officers responded to the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center after staff reported an unresponsive one year old child in the ER.
According to reports, the child appeared to have suffered an opioid overdose.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing and no further information was released.
PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY VEHICLE IN DUNKLIN COUNTY
A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle early Friday morning in the Missouri Bootheel.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 54 year old James Bolden, of Blytheville, was hit by a vehicle on Highway NN, five miles east of Holland.
Officials say the incident occurred Friday morning, shortly before 5:30 am.
Bolden suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a Blytheville hospital. A description of the vehicle involved was not available.
SOURCE FOUND FOR PETROLEUM SPILL IN PIEDMONT AREA CREEK
Updating a story we brought to you last week, the source has been found for a petroleum spill at a Piedmont area creek.
According to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, a report was made July 24th through the Emergency Spill Hotline of a petroleum sheen on McKenzie Creek in Piedmont.
During the investigation, responders worked upstream of the sheen and found a stormwater drain where diesel fuel appeared to be entering the creek. They followed the drain across the street to a gas station where their fuel tank containment had around three inches of fuel and water standing in it.
It appeared that fuel and water had flowed from this area into the storm drains that lead to Mckenzie Creek. MFA Oil was notified who then hired an environmental contractor to begin addressing the issue.
Officials were able to verify that no contamination entered Piedmont’s public water intake on the river, so the system was and is not at risk.
POPLAR BLUFF KINDERGARTEN CENTER TO HOST ROUNDUP THIS WEEK
The Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center will be hosting a two day event this week for future students.
The PB Kindergarten Center Kindergarten Roundup will be held today and tomorrow for all children who will begin kindergarten this fall.
Officials say that staff will be completing screening assessments on future students as well as completing any necessary paperwork. No appointment is necessary and the process will take approximately 30 minutes.
Anyone who has not enrolled their child in Kindergarten will have the opportunity to do so. Parents will need their child’s Birth Certificate, Social Security card, most up-to date shot record, and the parent’s Proof of Residency.

APPLICATION PERIOD FOR MANAGED DEER HUNTS ENDS TODAY IN MISSOURI
The application period for managed deer hunts in Missouri is almost over.
According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, deer hunters can apply online through the MDC website for a shot at more than 100 managed deer hunts throughout the state this fall and winter.
The deer hunts will be for archery, muzzleloading, and modern firearms from mid-September through mid-January. Some of the hunts will be held specifically for youth or for people with disabilities.
Today is the final day the application period will be active and hunters will be selected by a weighted random drawing.

STODDARD COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED FOR OVER A WEEK
Route PP in Stoddard County will be closed beginning today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews overlay the roadway.
The work zone is located from County Road 279 to Route M near Puxico.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, through Wednesday, August 10th. Officials say that the road will open back up to traffic at the end of each workday.
BRIDGE MAINTENANCE TO CAUSE DELAYS THIS WEEK ON INTERSTATE 55
North and Southbound Interstate 55 will both be reduced to one lane with a 20-foot width restriction this week near Hayti as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance.
According to officials, Northbound I-55 will be reduced between mile markers 10.9 and 12.3, while the Southbound lanes will be reduced between mile markers 13.7 and 12.3.
Weather permitting, work will take place today through Wednesday from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.

LATEST DROUGHT MONITOR SHOWS MOST OF STODDARD COUNTY IS IN SEVERE DROUGHT
The latest US Drought Monitor has been released showing most of Southeast Missouri is in at least a moderate drought.
The monitor, released on Thursday, also has most of Stoddard and Scott Counties currently experiencing severe drought.
Small portions of Northeast Butler County and Northern New Madrid County were also classified as being in severe drought.

NEW CEO NAMED FOR POPLAR BLUFF REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER
A new Chief Executive Officer has been named for the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Effective August 14th, Clyde Wood will take over the role held by Rick Naegler.
Wood joins Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center after serving for the past year at CEO Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He had previously worked for Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center from 2006 to 2009, ultimately serving as Chief Operating Officer.
He began his career working as a physical therapist for six years in Branson. Wood also served in the United States Army Reserves from 1991-1999.

FREE ATHLETE PHYSICALS TO BE HELD TODAY FOR POPLAR BLUFF STUDENT ATHLETES
Poplar Bluff High School and Junior High student athletes can get a free physical done today at the High School.
Physicals will start at 5:30 pm for athletes in the 7th and 8th grades, at 6:30 pm for 9th and 10th grades, and at 7:30 pm for 11th and 12th grades.
Poplar Bluff Athletic Director Kent Keith tells us that the first practice day for fall high school sports is set for Monday, August 7th.
Junior High sports will follow a week later, on Monday, August 14th.
NORTHEAST ARKANSAS MAN ARRESTED ON RAPE CHARGE
A Northeast Arkansas man has been taken into custody on a rape charge.
Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder tells KWOC News that a subject was interviewed on July 17th who disclosed that 58 year old Cecil Hardin, of Marmaduke, had done inappropriate sexual things to them.
Snyder added that Hardin was later interviewed at the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, where he gave a self-incriminating statement.
Hardin was arrested on multiple charges including three counts of rape.
Snyder says that the investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.
POPLAR BLUFF STREET TO BE CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC NEXT WEDNESDAY
A Poplar Bluff street will be closed to through traffic next week.
According to the Poplar Bluff Street Department, on Wednesday, August 2nd, crews will be overlaying Roxie Road from the West side of Shelby Road to the City Limits.
On Wednesday Roxie Road will be closed to through traffic, however residents that live in the affected area will be able to get out with an escort.

ONE DEAD FOLLOWING SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY

OFFICIALS INVESTIGATING SPILL AT MCKENZIE CREEK IN PIEDMONT
State officials are investigating a petroleum spill in Piedmont.
According to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, a report was made Monday evening through the Emergency Spill Hotline of a petroleum sheen on McKenzie Creek in Piedmont.
Environmental Emergency Response staff responded to the area Tuesday morning to investigate. They are working to identify the spill’s exact location and severity, try to determine its source, and ascertain whether and to what extent it poses a public or environmental health risk.
Monday evening, the Piedmont Fire Department placed a protective barrier and absorptive mats on the creek’s surface to effectively limit the spill’s spread.
The DNR regional office’s drinking water team also reached out to the city and determined that McKenzie Creek flows into the Black River downstream of the city’s water intake structure on the river, so the public water supply should be safe.
Officials say that an investigation into the spill is ongoing.
EF-2 TORNADO POSSIBLY TOUCHED DOWN MONDAY IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
A possible tornado touched down Monday afternoon in Southeast Missouri.
Officials with the National Weather Service tell KWOC News that survey teams have reported evidence of EF-2 tornado damage with wind speeds of 115 miles per hour in Scott County.
Officials say that the path is estimated to be approximately half a mile long.
The storm caused a home and grain silo to be destroyed in the Bertrand area. Two people also received minor injuries.
MOTORCYCLE CRASH NEAR DONIPHAN LEAVES ARKANSAS MAN WITH SERIOUS INJURIES
An Arkansas man was badly injured Monday evening in a motorcycle crash near Doniphan.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 24 year old Hunter Loggains, of Pocahontas, was riding the motorcycle on Route A in Ripley County, when the vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned.
Loggains suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken by a private vehicle to a Pocahontas hospital.
BRIDGE REPAIRS CAUSING DELAYS IN CARTER COUNTY
U.S. Route 60 in Carter County is being reduced so contractor crews can perform bridge repairs including replacing guardrails and deck repairs.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway being reduced is located between Route 103 and James Street near Van Buren.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Monday, August 21st.
DUNKLIN COUNTY ROAD CLOSED FOR BRIDGE REPLACEMENT
Route 153 in Dunklin County will be closed for over four months as contractor crews replace the bridge over Taylor Slough.
According to MoDOT, the closure is located between Route 25 and Route EE near Kennett.
Weather permitting, the project is scheduled to be completed by Friday, December 1st.

VEHICLE STRIKES A JUVENILE RIDING A BIKE IN POPLAR BLUFF
A Poplar Bluff juvenile was taken to an area hospital after getting struck by a vehicle while riding his bike.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, at around 8:30 pm Saturday night, officers responded to a report of a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident on North Main Street at Benton Street.
At the scene, a juvenile male told officers that his mini bike was struck by a maroon pickup, which left the scene.
The juvenile suffered serious injuries and was transferred to a St. Louis hospital for treatment.

By the time crews arrived, flames were coming from the roof of the structure and a front exterior wall had collapsed.
Crews were able to get the fire under control and contacted the fire marshal to conduct the investigation.

Poplar Bluff residents should not be surprised if they see water gushing from area fire hydrants.
The Poplar Bluff Fire Department is in the middle of a fire hydrant testing and maintenance operation.
Officials say that the procedure helps to ensure that quality water is provided to our areas as well as adequate water is available for fire fighting operations.
THREE POPLAR BLUFF RESIDENTS INJURED IN CRASH NEAR JACKSON
Three Poplar Bluff residents were injured in a motor vehicle crash near Jackson.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred Monday afternoon on Route W in Cape Girardeau County.
32 year old Samantha Cuevas, of Poplar Bluff, allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and struck another vehicle. Cuevas’s vehicle then overturned.
Cuevas, along with a 65 year old passenger in her vehicle and two people in the other vehicle, all received minor injuries.
A second passenger in Cuevas’s vehicle, 54 year old Vener Cuevas, suffered serious injuries. All five people were transported to a Cape Girardeau hospital.

EIGHT YEAR OLD CHILD DROWNS IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS
A young child died while swimming over the weekend in Northeast Arkansas.
According to Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole, an eight year old boy was swimming with friends in the St. Francis River at Cottonwood Point on Saturday when he went underwater and did not come back up.
His body was found around four hours later.
The Clay County Sheriff's Department, Dunklin County Sheriff's Office, Arkansas Game and Fish Officers, Missouri Department of Conservation Officers, Arkansas State Police, Clay County Emergency Task Force, and Clay County Coroner all responded to the area to provide assistance.

ALLEGED QULIN BANK ROBBER TO APPEAR IN COURT THIS MORNING
The man accused of robbing a bank in Qulin last week is scheduled to appear in a Butler County courtroom this morning.
Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that the Southern Bank in Qulin was robbed at gunpoint at approximately 9:10 am Thursday.
The suspect, identified as 25 year old Zachary Stark, of Qulin, was taken into custody Thursday evening without incident.
Stark took approximately $2,500 during the robbery, however the money was recovered during a search of his residence. He was lodged in the Butler County Justice Center following the arrest on a no bond warrant.
According to Missouri Case Net, Stark is due for his initial appearance in court this morning on felony charges of robbery 1st degree and armed criminal action.
MOTORCYCLE WRECK CLAIMS THE LIFE OF A DEXTER MAN
A Dexter man was killed in a motorcycle wreck on Saturday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 78 year old Harold Walker was riding the motorcycle on Highway 51, near Zalma, when the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned.
Walker was pronounced dead at the scene by Bollinger County Assistant Coroner Lee Gillam.
NEW COACH HIRED FOR POPLAR BLUFF GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM
A new coach has been selected for the Poplar Bluff High School Girls Basketball team.
Poplar Bluff R-1 Superintendent Dr. Aaron Cornman tells KWOC News that Soley Dugas was hired by the Board of Education during Thursday night’s meeting.
Dugas is a Poplar Bluff alumni that played for the Lady Mules basketball program from 2012-2015, where she started at point guard her sophomore year and was a four year varsity letterman.
She has spent the last 4 years teaching 8th grade science and served as an assistant track and field coach at both high school and junior high levels. Dugas was also an assistant girls basketball coach during the 2020-2021 season.
Dugas says, “Being a Lady Mule has made me who I am today. I am excited to pour into a program that I grew up in!”
Dr. Cornman added, “we are looking forward to seeing her coach on the sidelines and building a great team dynamic with our Lady Mule's basketball program.”
19 ARRESTS MADE IN CONNECTION TO SOUTHEAST MISSOURI DRUG TRAFFICKING ORGANIZATION
A major drug trafficking group has been taken down in Southeast Missouri.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Nineteen members of a Charleston, Missouri-based drug trafficking organization accused of being the main supplier of methamphetamine and fentanyl to southeast Missouri have been indicted on a felony drug conspiracy charge.
Arrests by federal, state and local law enforcement began on Thursday, followed by arraignments in the U.S. District Court in Cape Girardeau.
All 19 defendants face a charge of conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute controlled substances, including Demarcus P. Turner and Jadarius A. McCain.
Motions seeking to have Turner, McCain and three other defendants jailed until trial say that Turner and McCain were leaders of the drug trafficking conspiracy and also led a Charleston gang. The detention motion says that gang members have been linked to shootings in southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois.
Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been seized during the investigation, as well as about 65 kilograms of methamphetamine, 3.55 kilograms of cocaine, 653.9 grams of fentanyl, 215 grams of MDMA and 5.85 kilograms of marijuana.

SUSPECT IN CUSTODY IN CONNECTION TO QULIN BANK ROBBERY
A suspect is in custody following a bank robbery Thursday morning in Butler County.

SALES TAX TO BE WAIVED IN ALL CITIES, COUNTIES, AND SPECIAL TAX DISTRICTS FOR MISSOURI SALES TAX HOLIDAY
The dates have been announced for Missouri’s annual back to school sales tax holiday.
According to the Missouri Department of Revenue, the tax holiday will run from 12:01 am on Friday, August 4th through midnight on Sunday, August 6th.
During this time, certain back-to-school purchases such as school supplies, computers, clothing and other qualifying items as defined by statute are exempt from all state and local sales tax.
Eligible items include clothing that does not have a taxable value of more than $100 and personal computers that do not cost more than $1,500, among other items.
Something that is new for this year, is that in addition to the state sales tax, local sales tax will also be waived in all cities, counties and special tax districts.

THREE RIVERS COLLEGE TO HOST BATTLE OF THE BULLS THIS WEEKEND
Rodeo action will be returning to Poplar Bluff this weekend.
The Three Rivers College Rodeo Team is hosting the Battle of the Bulls on July 22nd at Ray Clinton Park.
The event will begin at 7 pm and there will also be activities for kids and food trucks available at the park.
The cost to attend is $10 for adults and $5 for kids ages eight and under.

WAYNE COUNTY HEALTH CENTER HOSTING CHILDREN’S HEALTH AND SAFETY FAIR
The Wayne County Health Center will be hosting a Children’s Health and Safety Fair on August 4th.
The free event will be from 9 am to 3 pm at the Health Center in Greenville. There will be vendors, information about fire and water safety, activities, and free immunizations.

DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR FALL YOUTH BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL IN POPLAR BLUFF IS TODAY
Now is the time to register your children for fall baseball and softball in Poplar Bluff.
According to the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation office, today is the final day for boys and girls ages three to 13 to be registered for the youth fall baseball and softball seasons.
Players will be placed in leagues based on age.

FINAL POPLAR BLUFF TRAIL RUN OF 2023 SET FOR SEPTEMBER

FOUR ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY DRUG BUST
Four people have been arrested in connection to an extensive narcotics investigation in Stoddard County.
Sheriff Carl Hefner tells KWOC News that on Tuesday, members of the SEMO Drug Task Force, Stoddard County Sheriff's Office, Bernie Police Department, and Missouri State Highway Patrol served a search warrant on a residence in Bernie.
Approximately 34 grams of suspected methamphetamine, packed for resale, was located in the residence along with several items of drug paraphernalia.
32 year old Nicholas Duncan, of Bernie, was also taken into custody at the residence. Hefner says that Duncan had an active arrest warrant from a previous case for possession of a controlled substance.
Officers also arrested 69 year old Kevin Miller, of Bernie, 57 year old Paula Johnson, of Bernie, and 29 year old Mitchell Norwood, of Dexter. Charges for those three individuals have not been released.
Duncan and Miller are being housed in the Bernie City Jail, while Johnson and Norwood were transported to the Stoddard County Jail.
POWER TO BE OUT THIS MORNING ALONG A POPLAR BLUFF ROAD
Some residents in Poplar Bluff will be without power for a period of time this morning.
According to Municipal Utilities, power will be shut off along the entire length of Roxy Road from around 8:30 to 10 am.
The blackout is due to ongoing construction in the area.
NEW COMMANDING OFFICER NAMED FOR HIGHWAY PATROL IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
A new commanding officer will be leading the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Southeast Missouri beginning next month.
Colonel Eric Olson, superintendent of the Highway Patrol, tells KWOC News that Lieutenant Jason Cluver is being promoted to captain and designated as commanding officer of Troop E in Poplar Bluff, effective August 1st.
Cluver is taking over for the retiring Captain Philip Gregory.
Cluver joined the Patrol on February 1, 1998, as a member of the 75th Recruit Class. Upon graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop E, Zone 13, Madison and Iron counties.
ARREST MADE IN CONNECTION TO FATAL HOUSE EXPLOSION IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS
An arrest has been made stemming from a 2019 home explosion that killed one person in Northeast Arkansas.
Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder tells KWOC News that Jeff Carter, formally of Paragould and now residing in Lewisburg, Tennessee, was recently apprehended by deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee.
In June of 2019, Greene County deputies responded to a home explosion on Highway 141. Michael Blake Campbell was located deceased inside the structure. Cause of death was listed as “smoke and soot inhalation”.
A witness told police that Campbell was sent to the residence to burn it by the stepfather, Jeff Carter, because the wiring had been stripped and it would cost too much to fix.
Carter reportedly bought the house on April 6th, 2019 for $25,000. The house burned on June 14th, 2019. The policy limit with the insurance on the property was $80,000. Carter turned in a claim to his insurance company, but refused to provide an examination under oath, so the claim was denied.
Carter is being charged with arson, negligent homicide, and fraudulent insurance acts.

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY A VEHICLE SOUTH OF POPLAR BLUFF
A pedestrian was badly injured after getting hit by a vehicle near Poplar Bluff.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 35 year old Samantha Jones, of Naylor, ran into the path of a vehicle on Missouri Highway 142, three miles south of Poplar Bluff.
The incident occurred at around 10 am Tuesday morning.
Jones suffered serious injuries and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.
POPLAR BLUFF FELON SENTENCED TO OVER THREE YEARS IN PRISON ON GUN CHARGE
A Poplar Bluff woman has been sentenced on a firearm charge.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 31 year old Tina Litvinchyk has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
In June of last year, Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force officers found two pistols in a locked safe, as well as two bags of marijuana and a digital scale. One of the pistols had been stolen less than three weeks earlier in Carter County.
Litvinchyk has three prior felony drug convictions and is barred from possession of a firearm. She was on parole at the time of her arrest.
On Tuesday, she was sentenced to 40 months in prison, to run consecutive to a 10-year prison sentence she is serving for two drug charges in Butler County Circuit Court.
PARAGOULD MAN TO SPEND 20 YEARS BEHIND BARS ON SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGE
A Paragould man will spend over a decade behind bars after pleading guilty to a sexual assault charge.
Earlier this week, 28 year old Blake Glover pled guilty to felony second degree sexual assault. Glover was arrested last year after police received information about an inappropriate relationship between him and an underage person.
On Monday, Glover was sentenced to 240 months in the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
WOMEN VETERANS HEALTH CARE EVENT SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY IN POPLAR BLUFF
An event will be held Thursday in Poplar Bluff to provide health care information for women Veterans.
Ladies Day Out has been scheduled for 10 am to 4 pm on Thursday at the First Church of God. The focus for this year’s event will be Whole Health Wellness.

POPLAR BLUFF STREET DEPARTMENT TO OVERLAY MAIN STREET THIS WEEK
Poplar Bluff street crews will be doing work on Main Street this week.
According to the Poplar Bluff Street Department, crews will be overlaying Main Street between Harper and Pershing Streets today and tomorrow.
Northbound traffic on Main Street will be detoured west onto Harper Street and southbound traffic will be detoured at Davis Street. Eastbound traffic on Harper Street will be detoured onto Mill Street.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT CRACKING DOWN ON LOITERING IN AREA PARKING LOTS
An increase in incidents at area businesses is prompting a crackdown by area police.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, in recent months the Poplar Bluff Police department has seen a surge in crimes committed when juveniles and young adults gather on local parking lots.
The crimes have included felony assaults, weapon offenses, thefts, and reckless driving.
Police officers have increased patrols and issued warnings to anyone loitering or ‘hanging out’ on properties marked with no loitering or trespassing signs.
In the near future they will issue criminal summonses, call parents to the scene, and may arrest repeat offenders. If officers approach a group, its members should remain in place and follow the officers' commands. Officials say that if officers have to chase a vehicle the occupants will likely be arrested, and their vehicle impounded.

IMPROVEMENTS SCHEDULED FOR THE DONIPHAN WATER SYSTEM THIS WEEK
The Doniphan Department of Utilities will be making improvements to the city’s water system beginning today.
According to city officials, the plan is to close sections of water mains in the east section of town, causing several customers to be without water pressure in these areas. Some residents may experience complete loss of water until upgrades are completed.
A precautionary boil notice for drinking water will be issued and remain in effect until all tests are completed.
Residents along East Locust Street east of Sunny Acres Drive going north to the city limits along with residents from Green Street going east to the city limits will be in the area of notice.
FREE ATHLETE PHYSICALS TO BE HELD NEXT WEEK FOR POPLAR BLUFF STUDENTS
Poplar Bluff High School and Junior High student athletes can get a free physical done next week at the High School.
Physicals will be conducted on Thursday, July 27th beginning at 5:30 pm for athletes in the 7th and 8th grades, beginning at 6:30 pm for 9th and 10th grades, and beginning at 7:30 pm for 11th and 12th grades.
Poplar Bluff Athletic Director Kent Keith tells us that the first practice day for fall high school sports is set for Monday, August 7th.
Junior High sports will follow a week later, on Monday, August 14th.
RUN 4 THE ARTS SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 9TH
A date has been set for the 8th annual Run 4 the Arts hosted by Three Rivers College.
The four-mile run or walk, along with a one-mile walk and wag, will be held at 8 am on Saturday, September 9th at the College’s Poplar Bluff Campus. The course will begin and end in front of the Tinnin Fine Arts Center.
All funds from the event will go to benefit scholarships for students studying at Three Rivers College.

RIPLEY COUNTY FAIR TO BEGIN ON AUGUST 2ND
Preparations are underway for the 2023 Ripley County Fair.

A Poplar Bluff school bus inspector has been honored at a state conference.
According to Poplar Bluff R-1 School District Transportation Director Jon McKinney, a group of the school’s transportation professionals recently attended the 58th Annual Missouri Association for Pupil Transportation conference in Springfield.
During the conference, Poplar Bluff bus driver trainer and bus inspector, Jason Davis received 3rd place overall in the Best Technician and Inspector Competition.

DATE SET FOR FRESHMAN ORIENTATION AT POPLAR BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL
Freshman orientation is set to be held next month at Poplar Bluff High School.
Officials say that orientation will begin at 8 am on Wednesday, August 16th.

APPLICATION PERIOD FOR MANAGED DEER HUNTS UNDERWAY IN MISSOURI
The application period for managed deer hunts in Missouri is underway.
According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, deer hunters can apply online through the MDC website for a shot at more than 100 managed deer hunts throughout the state this fall and winter.
The deer hunts will be for archery, muzzleloading, and modern firearms from mid-September through mid-January. Some of the hunts will be held specifically for youth or for people with disabilities.
The application period will be active through July 31st and hunters will be selected by a weighted random drawing.

Route CC in Stoddard County will be closed early this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

The man who has led the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Southeast Missouri for the past four years will be stepping down.
According to Colonel Eric T. Olson, superintendent of the Highway Patrol, Captain Philip Gregory, Troop E commanding officer, will retire on August 1st, after 30 years of service.
Captain Gregory grew up in Fredericktown and graduated from Fredericktown High School. Before his appointment to the Patrol, he served as an officer with the Cape Girardeau Police Department, the Chaffee Police Department, and as a paramedic.

MAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR ROBBERY OF ESSEX BANK
A Poplar Bluff man will spend multiple years behind bars in connection to a 2019 Essex bank robbery.
Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Sawyer Smith tells KWOC News that Glenn Hamilton was convicted Wednesday on the felony charge of 1st degree robbery.
Smith says that Hamilton forcibly stole $1,890 owned by Southern Bank and threatened a bank teller in October of 2019.
The judge imposed a sentence of 10 years against Hamilton with credit given for time served in the county jail. The remainder of the sentence will be served in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
POPLAR BLUFF YOUTH BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL PLAYERS TO BE A PART OF CARDINALS PREGAME FESTIVITIES TONIGHT
Youth baseball and softball players from Poplar Bluff will be a part of the pregame festivities tonight in St. Louis.
The players will be a part of the pregame parade before the St. Louis Cardinals take on the Washington Nationals at Busch Stadium.
The parade will begin at 6 pm, with first pitch for the game scheduled for 7:15 pm.

The dates have been announced for the upcoming open enrollment event for the Doniphan R-1 School District.
According to school officials, the event has been scheduled for 9 to 11 am and 1 to 3 pm on August 2nd and 3rd at the Doniphan High School Library.
Open Enrollment is for all new students in Kindergarten through 12th grade.

ACTIVE SHOOTER TRAINING TO BE HELD TODAY AT DONIPHAN SCHOOLS
Law enforcement will be on the Doniphan School campus today to conduct active shooter training.
According to Sergeant Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, state troopers will be joined by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office and the Doniphan Police Department for the training.
Residents may hear gunshots coming from the area of the school during the exercise as the officers will be using training rifles loaded with blanks.

Missouri Highlands Health Care has announced the date for a free prevention summit that will be held later this month in Poplar Bluff.
The Prevention Summit Lunch and Learn has been scheduled for 10 am to 1 pm on Monday, July 24th at the Westwood Center.

POPLAR BLUFF KINDERGARTEN CENTER TO HOST ROUNDUP ON JULY 31ST AND AUGUST 1ST
The Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center will be hosting a two day event at the end of this month for future students.
The PB Kindergarten Center Kindergarten Roundup will be held on Monday, July 31st and Tuesday, August 1st for all children who will begin kindergarten this fall.
Officials say that staff will be completing screening assessments on future students as well as completing any necessary paperwork. No appointment is necessary and the process will take approximately 30 minutes.

CURRENT RIVER CLEANUP SET FOR EARLY SEPTEMBER
AmeriCorps Senior and the Community Resource Council will be hosting a clean-up of Current River for the National Day of Service on Saturday, September 9th.
The event will be from 10 am to 4 pm, spanning from Watercress Spring to Big Spring.
There will also be food and prizes as a part of the event as well.

USDA OFFICIALS CELEBRATE PUBLIC SAFETY EQUIPMENT IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI CITY
Federal and state officials were in a Southeast Missouri town this week to celebrate new equipment that will help keep the public safe.
Thanks to a partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture, the city of Portageville was able to purchase four new vehicles that will ensure local law enforcement is able to continue providing efficient public safety services while also keeping law enforcement providers safe en route.
The city was having maintenance issues with the existing fleet of law enforcement vehicles due to high mileage and the USDA provided financial assistance in the form of a $24,500 grant through the Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant program.
The USDA Rural Development State Director for Missouri Kyle Wilkens, alongside federal, state and local officials, visited Portageville to celebrate the new critical public safety equipment.
CONTRACT AWARDED FOR ROAD WORK IN STODDARD COUNTY
An over four million dollar contract has been awarded for improvements in Southeast Missouri, including in Stoddard County.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a 4.14 million dollar contract for multiple pavement improvement projects, including Route 91 in Stoddard and Scott counties.
The project will be located between Routes P and C.
Additional information, including timelines and impacts to traffic, will be released prior to the start of construction.

DONIPHAN HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE SELECTED IN THE MLB DRAFT
A Doniphan High School graduate has been selected in the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft.
Missouri State University’s Jake Eddington was selected in the 7th Round by the Philadelphia Phillies.
During his time with the Doniphan Dons, he was a two time all state selection and was Missouri’s top ranked player in the class of 2020.

REGION UNDER A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER FOR TONIGHT
Weather officials say that the region is under a slight risk of severe weather beginning tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected to impact the region from late tonight through the weekend.
Severe thunderstorms are possible and repeated rounds of storms may cause some flash flooding concerns.
The area is expected to remain dry until after sunset this evening.
In addition to chances of thunderstorms, heat and humidity numbers will increase over the next few days, with heat index readings possibly getting up to around 106 degrees in Poplar Bluff on Thursday.
ROYAL REGISTRATION DATE SET FOR TWIN RIVERS SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Twin Rivers School District has announced that it will be holding a two day registration event for students next month.
Royal Registration is scheduled for 1 to 7 pm on Tuesday, August 8th for students whose parent or guardian’s last name begins with A-K and Thursday, August 10th for students whose parent or guardian’s last name begins with L-Z. Both will be held at Twin Rivers High School in Broseley.
There will be booths set up to distribute student class schedules and allow students to have their school picture taken.

POPLAR BLUFF STREET DEPARTMENT TO OVERLAY MAIN STREET NEXT WEEK
Poplar Bluff street crews will be doing work on Main Street next week.
According to the Poplar Bluff Street Department, crews will be overlaying Main Street from Harper up to Pershing, which will force Main Street to be closed on July 18th and 19th during the day.
Only residents that live on Main Street in the affected area will be permitted within the work zone.
Traffic that is eastbound on Harper Street will be detoured onto Mill Street.
The project had originally been planned for this week, however it was delayed due to unforeseen issues at the asphalt plant.
GIDEON WOMAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY FOR DELIVERY OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE
Authorities in Stoddard County have arrested an area woman on multiple drug related charges.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 43 year old Lorrie Kern was taken into custody Monday evening on charges of delivery of a controlled substance - methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Kern is also facing charges of failure to register a motor vehicle, displaying the plates of another, and no seatbelt.
Following the arrest, she was held in the Stoddard County Jail.
ROAD TO BE CLOSED THIS WEEK IN STODDARD COUNTY
Route HH in Stoddard County will be closed both today and tomorrow as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.
The closure is located from Route 153 to Route CC near Baker.
Weather permitting, work will take place each day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

POCAHONTAS MAN FACING ATTEMPTED MURDER AND FIREARM CHARGES IN CONNECTION TO SHOOTING
A Pocahontas man was charged Monday morning with attempted murder in connection to a shooting over the weekend.
According to the Pocahontas Police Department, on Saturday, officers were dispatched to a residence on Archer Street in reference to a male subject with a gunshot wound.
Pocahontas Police Officers and Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputies quickly apprehended a suspect in the shooting, 28 year old Corey Garrett Jr.

The victim, identified as Gregory Rogers, had received three gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital. His current condition was not released.
Garrett appeared in court on Monday where he was charged with felony attempted murder in the second degree, breaking or entering, possession of a firearm by a certain person, and 1st degree battery.
His bond was set at $250,000, cash only.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO BE PROVIDED THIS YEAR FOR TWIN RIVERS STUDENTS
Parents of Twin Rivers students have a little less to worry about as they start planning for the upcoming school year.
According to a post on the Twin Rivers R-X Facebook page, all Twin Rivers students will be provided school supplies for the 2023-2024 school year.
Students will only need to supply their own backpacks and, if requested on the class supply lists, pencil boxes or pouches.
Officials say that the school was able to use grant money to cover the school supplies.
ONE DEAD FOLLOWING RANDOLPH COUNTY CRASH
A Pocahontas man is dead following a single vehicle crash in Randolph County.
According to the Arkansas State Police, 45 year old Jimmy Neece was driving on Mill Creek Road when his vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway.
The vehicle then ran through a ditch and struck a gas meter before overturning.
Neece was ejected from the vehicle and later pronounced dead.
MAN ARRESTED IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS ON ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES FOLLOWING HOUSE FIRE
A man has been arrested in Northeast Arkansas on attempted murder charges following a house fire last week.
According to the Paragould Police Department, at around 1 am on Thursday a resident on Ward Lane called and advised that their house was on fire. The caller said that they believed that their brother, 54 year old Darin Wright, had started the fire.
The caller added that they were in the residence, along with a juvenile, when the fire began.
Surveillance footage from the area showed a vehicle, consistent to that of Wright’s, arriving in the area approximately 90 minutes before the report. Footage also showed an individual walking through the yard of the victim and a fire starting several seconds later.
Later on Thursday, a resident of Greene County made a report with the Sheriff’s Department that Wright had showed up to their residence at approximately 1:30 am and dumped gasoline on their air conditioning unit and around the base of their home.
Officials say that during an interview Wright made incriminating statements regarding the incidents.
Wright was taken into custody on two counts of felony attempted murder in the second degree as well as a single count of arson.
ILLINOIS MAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON DRUG CHARGES
Authorities in Wayne County have arrested an Illinois man on multiple drug related charges.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 31 year old Kristafer Humphrey, of Granite City, Illinois, was taken into custody Sunday evening on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance for methamphetamine and hydrocodone.
Humphrey is also facing a charge of speeding. Following the arrest, he was held in the Wayne County Jail.
CULVERT REPLACEMENT TO CAUSE CLOSURE OF ROAD NEAR GREENVILLE TODAY
Route U in Wayne County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.
The section of roadway being closed is located between County Road 377 and County Road 378 near Greenville.
Weather permitting, work will take place today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
