BOYS SEMIFINALS TO START TODAY AT 2023 OZARK FOOTHILLS CONFERENCE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Boys’ semifinal matchups are scheduled for today at the 2023 Ozark Foothills Conference Basketball Tournament in Greenville.

The day will start with the second semifinal of the Boys’ Junior Varsity bracket, as Greenville takes on Neelyville at 4:30 pm.

The first boys varsity semifinal between Greenville and Twin Rivers will begin at 6 pm. The second semifinal will see Doniphan face Clearwater at 7:30 pm.

SEMIFINALS TO START TODAY AT 2023 OZARK FOOTHILLS CONFERENCE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Semifinal matchups are scheduled to begin today at the 2023 Ozark Foothills Conference Basketball Tournament. 

The top seed of the Junior Varsity bracket, Twin Rivers will begin their tournament today at 4:30 pm. 

Both girls varsity semifinals are also scheduled for today, with the first game starting at 6:00 pm. The boys varsity semifinal games will be played on Tuesday.

MULTIPLE EVENTS PLANNED FOR 2023 THREE RIVERS COLLEGE ALUMNI REUNION

Multiple events have been scheduled for the 2023 Three Rivers College Alumni Reunion this weekend.

The celebration will begin at 6 pm tonight with the Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet at the Holiday Inn in Poplar Bluff.

There is a full day of festivities planned for Saturday on the TRC campus in Poplar Bluff, starting with the pancake breakfast at 7 am.

MULTIPLE CRASHES CAUSE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF US HIGHWAY 60 IN BUTLER COUNTY

A portion of US Highway 60 in Butler County was closed Wednesday morning following a multi vehicle wreck due to icy roads.

Officials say that three tractor trailers were involved in the crash along with several other vehicles, which caused the eastbound lanes of Highway 60 to be closed for several hours from the Highway W exit to the Highway T exit.

One Highway Patrol vehicle and three Barker’s Towing trucks were struck while responding to the area.

CHANCES OF ANOTHER ROUND OF WINTER WEATHER TONIGHT

Another round of winter weather spread across Southeast Missouri on Tuesday, further worsening road conditions across the area.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, sleet and freezing rain rapidly spread across Southeast Missouri Tuesday afternoon and evening, causing roads that had previously been cleared to ice over again.

SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS POSSIBLE THIS MORNING

Weather officials are warning of possible icy road conditions in Southeast Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a Winter Storm Warning was in effect overnight due to possibilities of snow, sleet, and ice accumulations.

Weather officials say that motorists should prepare for possible slippery road conditions this morning. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

LIGHT ICING POSSIBLE THIS WEEK

Southeast Missouri could see some light icing this week which might result in dangerous traveling conditions.

According to a Hazardous Weather Outlook from the National Weather Service, light wintry weather will produce potential travel impacts this week.

Portions of Southeast Missouri already experienced freezing drizzle last night into this morning.

ARKANSAS HIGHWAY BLOCKED FOR A PERIOD OF TIME BY ROLLED OVER 18-WHEELER

Crews were on the scene of an 18-wheeler rollover Thursday in Northeast Arkansas.

According to the Arkansas Department of Transportation, the crash occurred on Arkansas Highway 135 near Highway 90 in Clay County, 4.6 miles southeast of Corning.

Officials say that the wreck was reported at 10 am Thursday morning and both lanes of the highway were blocked for a few hours.

No information was available on if the driver of the 18-wheeler or any other person was injured during the crash.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED FOR 2ND DEGREE MURDER

A Poplar Bluff man has been arrested on a murder charge.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that his agency and the Missouri State Highway Patrol have arrested 43 year old Willie Eddie Sipes, of Poplar Bluff, and charges have been requested for 2nd degree murder and possession of a controlled substance.

The charges are in connection to a deceased female that was found at her home in Wayne County. Sheriff Dobbs says it is believed that she died as a result of injuries she sustained while at Sipes residence, located in Northern Butler County.

WINTER STORM WARNING TO GO INTO EFFECT TONIGHT FOR PARTS OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

Portions of Southeast Missouri will be under a Winter Storm Warning tonight.

According to the National Weather Service, areas in western and northern Southeast Missouri are expected to see heavy snowfall tonight and tomorrow morning.

Total snow accumulations of four or more inches are possible in some areas, with the hazardous conditions impacting the Wednesday morning commute.

Weather officials say that winds will also be rather strong and gusty which could stress power lines.

POPLAR BLUFF COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADERS COMPETE IN NATIONAL COMPETITION

The Poplar Bluff High School Competitive Cheerleading team was in Texas this past weekend to compete with the top High School cheer teams from across the United States.

The Mules Cheerleaders took part in the National Cheerleaders Association High School Nationals in Dallas, Texas in the Intermediate Small Varsity Crowd Performance division. 

Poplar Bluff finished day one of the competition in 17th place out of 28 teams.

SCHOOL BUS INVOLVED IN CRASH IN POPLAR BLUFF

A school bus was involved in a motor vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Poplar Bluff.

According to authorities, a Poplar Bluff school bus and a passenger vehicle collided on West Pine Street in the area of the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce.

One person in the passenger vehicle was injured and transported from the scene by ambulance.

POPLAR BLUFF VOTERS TO DECIDE ON USE TAX IN APRIL

Poplar Bluff voters will decide on whether a use tax will be enacted this April.

During their meeting Tuesday night, the Poplar Bluff City Council unanimously approved an ordinance authorizing and directing the submission of a ballot proposition to Poplar Bluff voters at the upcoming general municipal election.

The ordinance will ask voters if they want to impose a local use tax at the same rate as the total sales tax rate. In the event the local sales tax rate is reduced or raised by voter approval, the local use tax rate will also be reduced or raised.

STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE TODAY IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

There is a possibility of severe storms crossing Southeast Missouri this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, a warm front, followed by a quick moving cold front, will lead to strong to possibly severe storms this afternoon and evening.

Most of Southeast Missouri has a marginal risk for severe weather today, however there is a slightly higher risk in the bootheel and along the Mississippi River.

Weather officials say that damaging winds and heavy rainfall are the main threats for today. Some minor flooding may also develop.

ONE FOUND DEAD FOLLOWING FIRE IN BUTLER COUNTY

A fatal structure fire is under investigation in Butler County.

According to officials, the fire happened Friday morning at a structure located on T Highway near route KK.

Crews found one person dead inside the garage. Butler County Coroner Jim Akers tells KWOC News the person has been identified as 76 year old Darrell Robirtson, of Poplar Bluff.

The deadline to sign up for spring classes at Three Rivers College is almost here.

Today is the final day to register for classes for the Spring Semester at Three Rivers College.

MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHILD PORNOGRAPHY RELATED CHARGES

Authorities have arrested an area man in connection to alleged child pornography.

Randolph County Sheriff Kevin Bell tells KWOC News that earlier this month Sheriff’s Deputies were able to identify a suspect that was downloading child sexual abuse material.

A search warrant was served this week which resulted in the arrest of 48 year old Gary Hayes, of Pocahontas, for five counts of pandering or possessing visual or print medium depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child, and five counts of distributing, possessing, or viewing of matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child. 

Hayes' bond was set at $250,000, cash only. 

Sheriff Bell says that this is an ongoing investigation with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Division and the FBI Jonesboro Field Office.

17th ANNUAL CHILI COOK-OFF SET FOR FEBRUARY 25TH

A date has been set for the Mason-Dixon Chili Society’s 17th annual Chili Cook-Off.

The event will be held from 11 am to 2 pm on Saturday, February 25th at the Black River Coliseum and admission is free. A cook’s party will be held the day before the event.

The participation fee is $100 per booth if you register by February 13th. Proceeds from the Cook-Off go to benefit the United Gospel Rescue Mission.
