MAN SENTENCED TO OVER 20 YEARS IN PRISON ON SODOMY CHARGE
A Stoddard County man is set to serve over 20 years in prison on a sodomy charge.
Stoddard County Prosecutor, Russell Oliver, tells KWOC News that Bobby Riddell, of Bernie, was sentenced Wednesday to 24 years incarceration for the crime of statutory sodomy in the first degree.
Riddell pleaded guilty to the charge in February. Oliver says that the victim in the case was a child.

POPLAR BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT COUNCIL HONORED BY SPECIAL OLYMPICS
The Poplar Bluff High School Student Council has been honored for working to create an environment of inclusion.
According to school officials, the Student Council was the only recipient in the state to earn the award of merit in the Special Olympics Missouri School of Character program.
The award is given to a single qualifying school that displays outstanding commitment to individuals with intellectual disabilities, a true understanding of unity, and a passion for raising awareness and funds for local Special Olympics Missouri student-athletes.
The statewide award was presented to the student organization last month during the Missouri Association of Student Councils state convention in Branson.
Along with a plaque, StuCo will receive $450 toward uniforms, equipment and other expenses related to its student-athletes, one MASC camp scholarship, and numerous Unified Sports shirts, banners and other giveaways.
ALMOST 80 NEW JOBS COULD BE COMING TO MISSOURI BOOTHEEL
A filtration company will soon be expanding to the Missouri Bootheel.
Cim-Tek Filtration, based out of Illinois, will be bringing up to 77 new jobs to Dunklin County to expand its production capabilities for multiple products.
The expansion will be located at a facility on Ely Street in Kennett. No timetable was available for when hiring would begin.
LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS TO CRACK DOWN ON DISTRACTED DRIVING THIS WEEKEND
Law enforcement officers across the country will be cracking down on distracted driving this weekend.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “U Drive. U Text. U Pay.” high-visibility enforcement campaign begins today and runs through April 11th.
The campaign aims to save lives by preventing distracted driving.
Law enforcement officers will be stopping drivers who are texting behind the wheel and educating them on the risks of driving distracted.
NHTSA data shows that more than 29,000 people died in crashes involving a distracted driver from 2012 to 2020. In 2020, distracted driving crashes accounted for 13 percent of all injury crashes and over 3,100 deaths nationwide.
PAVEMENT REPAIRS SET FOR TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY
Route U in Butler County will be reduced today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.
The section of Route U to be reduced is located between Route CC and Route H near Malden.
Work is scheduled to take place from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
CREWS TO BE IN STODDARD COUNTY TODAY FOR GUARDRAIL REPAIRS
South Outer Road in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane beginning this morning as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform guardrail and cable barrier repairs.
The work zone will be located from County Road 637 to Route AD in Dexter.
Work will take place today between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

BUTLER AND RIPLEY COUNTY ELECTION RESULTS
Voters in Butler and Ripley County headed to the polls Tuesday to decide on multiple local races.
In Butler County, Lisa Armes Parson and Barbara Ann Horton won the Poplar Bluff City Council races for Ward 1 and Ward 3, respectively.
For the Neelyville School Board, the top two vote getters were Vernon Barker and Jill Marie McGruder.

CARTER AND STODDARD COUNTY ELECTION RESULTS
Multiple races were decided Tuesday during elections throughout Missouri.
In Carter County, Mike Hoerner won the race for Van Buren Mayor.
In Stoddard County, Randal Tennison, Bryce Matthews, and Larry Helm all won Dexter Alderman races. School District propositions also passed for the Puxico R-8 and Richland R-1 school districts.
For the Dexter R-11 School Board, the top two candidates to receive votes were Bonnie Howard and Nancy Tuley Mayer.
For the Bernie R-13 School Board, the top two were Kristopher Powell and Jason Shelton, while the top two for the Puxico R-8 School Board were Brad Watkins and Michael Clubb.

STORAGE BUILDING FIRE UNDER INVESTIGATION IN CAMPBELL
Authorities in Campbell are investigating a fire from early Tuesday morning.
According to the Campbell Volunteer Fire Department, crews responded to a storage building fire on Elm Street shortly after 5 am Tuesday.
The fire was not fully extinguished until around 8 am.
Officials say that the fire is under investigation and anyone who has information on how it might have started is asked to contact the Campbell Fire Department or Campbell Police Department.
DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON WEAPON AND DRUG CHARGES IN RIPLEY COUNTY
Authorities in Ripley County have arrested an area man on multiple charges.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 59 year old Kenny Davis, of Dexter, was taken into custody Monday night on felony charges of unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance for methamphetamine and alprazolam.
Davis also reportedly had warrants out of both Butler and Ripley Counties.
BRIDGE REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS ON INTERSTATE 55 IN NEW MADRID COUNTY
The Southbound lanes of Interstate 55 in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge repairs.
According to officials, the work zone will be located from mile marker 51.8 to mile marker 52.4, near Kewanee.
Weather permitting, work is scheduled to take place today from 7 am to 3 pm.
CREWS TO REDUCE PART OF US HIGHWAY 61 FOR BRIDGE REPAIRS
U.S. Highway 61 in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction so crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation can perform bridge repairs over Interstate 55.
The section of roadway to be reduced is located at the overpass north of New Madrid.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 3 pm both today and tomorrow.

WOMAN FOUND DEAD IN RAY CLINTON PARK
Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department and Butler County Coroner’s Office say that a woman was found dead Monday morning in Ray Clinton Park.
Lieutenant Josh Stewart with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC news that the woman was found by a mushroom hunter at approximately 9:20 AM.

SEATS ON POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCIL AND MULTIPLE AREA SCHOOL BOARDS TO BE DECIDED TODAY
Voters from across Southeast Missouri will be going to the ballot box today for municipal elections.
In Poplar Bluff, voters will determine who will fill two seats on the City Council. Three people will appear on the ballot for the Ward 1 seat, Incumbent Lisa Armes Parson, along with Robert Duckett and David Williams.
It is a two way race for the Ward 3 seat, as incumbent Barbara Ann Horton takes on challenger Billy DePew.
Multiple school districts will be holding Board of Education elections today, including Neelyville and Doniphan.
Four people are challenging for two spots on the Neelyville School board, including Vernon Barker, Amanda Wolfram, Curtis Reinbott, and Jill McGruder.
For the Doniphan School Board, voters will choose between two of Steven Ivy, Riley March, Michael McAfee, and Billy Davis.
Three Rivers College will also be filling a seat on the Board of Trustees.
MUSTAIN NAMED POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT OFFICER OF THE YEAR
A detective has been honored for his work for the people of Poplar Bluff.
Detective Daniel Mustain has been named the Poplar Bluff Police Department officer of the year.
Mustain was one of many area officers honored at the Poplar Bluff Elk’s Lodge 34th Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Banquet, last weekend.
For Butler County, Caleb Bridges was named Deputy of the Year, Fransico Vega Jr. and Robert Ice III were named Co-Jailers of the year, while Faith McCorkle was named the Communications Officer of the Year.
SMITH APPOINTED AS WAYNE COUNTY CORONER
The Deputy Coroner in Wayne County has gotten a promotion.
Missouri Governor Mike Parson announced Monday that Mark Smith, of Piedmont, has been appointed as the Wayne County Coroner.
Smith serves as a paramedic with the Clearwater Ambulance District and is also a member of the Piedmont City Fire Department.
He also has served as the Deputy Coroner for Wayne County.
DUAL EARTHQUAKES SHAKE WAPPAPELLO AREA
A pair of earthquakes shook the Wappapello area Sunday night.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the first earthquake was recorded at 6:24 PM Sunday, just over 6 miles west northwest of Puxico. Its magnitude was measured at 2.3.
Three minutes later, a second earthquake occurred in approximately the same area. The second earthquake had a recorded magnitude of 2.4.

North and southbound Interstate 55 in New Madrid and Pemiscot Counties will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction this month as construction crews perform pavement work.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway being reduced is located between Exit 27 and Exit 40.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 am to 7 pm daily through Friday, April 29th.

PUXICO WOMAN DIES AFTER BEING STRUCK BY A VEHICLE
A Puxico woman is dead after she was struck by a vehicle over the weekend in Stoddard County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling northbound on Missouri Highway 51 Saturday night when it struck a pedestrian in the roadway.
Officials say the incident occurred shortly after 9 pm, a quarter of a mile south of Puxico.

MAN ARRESTED FOR CHILD MOLESTATION CHARGE OUT OF WAYNE COUNTY
Authorities in Wayne County say that a man is in custody on a child molestation charge.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Tony Ray Waites was taken into custody last week at a St. Louis hospital and transported back to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office on charges of child molestation – 1st degree, statutory sodomy – 2nd degree, and endangering the welfare of a child creating substantial risk.
No bond was set and officials say the investigation is still ongoing.
DEXTER POLICE RECEIVE GRANT FOR BODY CAMERAS
A southeast Missouri police department has been able to upgrade some of their equipment thanks to a grant.
According to the Dexter Police Department, the agency has received grant funding to purchase new body camera units for their patrol division and school resource officers.
The body cameras are being used to replace older, outdated body cameras already deployed in the field.
The funding for the cameras is thanks to a grant from Walmart Giving.
POPLAR BLUFF RECOGNIZED BY ARBOR DAY FOUNDATION
The city of Poplar Bluff is being recognized for its commitment to effective urban forest management.
According to City Manager Matt Winters, Poplar Bluff was named a 2021 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation.
Poplar Bluff achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program's four requirements: forming a tree board or department, creating a tree-care ordinance, having an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

VOLUNTEERS ENCOURAGED TO CLEAN UP LITTER FROM MISSOURI HIGHWAYS
This month marks the return of Missouri’s No More Trash Bash.
The annual event by the Missouri Department of Transportation encourages volunteers to clean up litter adjacent to highways to help beautify Missouri throughout this month.
Officials say it has been held every spring since 2004 except for 2020.
MoDOT will provide trash bags and safety vests to anyone who volunteers. Regionally, events will be announced that people can come join in the litter pickup.

GUARDRAIL UPGRADE PROJECTS UNDERWAY ON ROUTE 67 IN WAYNE COUNTY
Route 67 in Wayne County is being reduced with a 16-foot width restriction in multiple locations so contractor crews can perform guardrail upgrades.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the work zones are located from Route 34 to Route K near Lodi and from County Road 307 to Business 67 near Greenville.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 5 pm daily through Sunday, July 17th.
DATE SET FOR THREE RIVERS SHRINE CLUB KIDS DAY
A date has been announced for the upcoming Three Rivers Shrine Club Kids Day.
The event will be held from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, April 30th at the Three Rivers Shrine Club on Kennedy Lane in Poplar Bluff.

ALL STAR BASKETBALL GAME TO BE HELD TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF
High School Boys and Girls Basketball stars from across Southeast Missouri will be in Poplar Bluff today.
SEMO Bulls Basketball will be presenting the Last Dance All Star Basketball game tonight at the ET Peters Gymnasium at the Poplar Bluff Middle School.
Doors will open at 5:30 pm, with tipoff at 6 pm. There will also be a three point contest for both the boys and girls as well as a slam dunk contest for the boys.
Entry is $10 per person.
MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION TO RELEASE UPDATED HUNTING AND FISHING REGULATIONS
The Missouri Department of Conservation has announced that updated booklets for hunting and fishing regulations will be available this month.
Officials say that hunters, trappers, anglers, and others can get free copies of its updated booklets on 2022 Spring Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information, Summary of Missouri Hunting and Trapping Regulations, Summary of Missouri Fishing Regulations, and the Wildlife Code of Missouri.
The booklets will be available at MDC regional offices, MDC nature centers, and other places where permits are sold.
The booklet information will also be available at mdc.mo.gov.

NO INJURIES AFTER BULLWINKLES LOUNGE CATCHES FIRE
No injuries have been reported after an area business caught fire last night.
According to the Butler County Fire Department, the Bullwinkles Lounge caught fire and sustained heavy damage Wednesday evening.
Fire officials say that everyone inside was able to escape safely.
A cause for the fire is under investigation.

DEXTER MAN FOUND GUILTY ON MULTIPLE RAPE CHARGES
A Dexter man will spend the rest of his life behind bars following his conviction on multiple rape charges.
Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney, Russ Oliver, tells KWOC News that a Stoddard County jury has found Jerry Pierce guilty of four counts of 1st degree statutory sodomy, one count of 1st degree statutory rape, and one count of 2nd degree child molestation.
Piece is mandated to receive life sentences on five counts and also faces an additional 15 years for the remaining count.
A final sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 23rd, where the judge will determine if the jury’s sentence will be accepted or if he will enter a different sentence.
Due to the sensitive nature of the crime and to protect the identity of the victims, no further details were released by the Stoddard County Prosecutor's Office.
MAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON FELONY DRUG CHARGES
Authorities in Wayne County have arrested a Piedmont man on multiple felony charges.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 28 year old Tyler Haynes was taken into custody Tuesday morning on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance – hydrocodone.
Officials say that Haynes was taken to the Wayne County Jail, where he was later released.
WOLF CREEK TRAIL RUN SCHEDULED FOR APRIL
A marathon run is coming this spring to the Poplar Bluff area.
The Poplar Bluff Kiwanis Club and US Forest Service will host the 9th Annual Wolf Creek Trail Run on April 16th. The Half Marathon will begin at 8 am, while the 6K run and 1.7 mile walk will start at 9:30 am.
Proceeds from the event will go to Kiwanis Bacon Memorial Park.

DEXTER MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN UTV WRECK
A Dexter man was flown to an area hospital Tuesday following a UTV wreck in Stoddard County.
Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 58 year old Timothy Alsup was driving the UTV on Stoddard County Road 640, three miles south of Dexter, when the vehicle ran off the side of the roadway and overturned.
Alsup suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was flown to an area hospital.
RIPLEY COUNTY PUBLIC HOUSING AGENCY TO HOST PUBLIC HEARING TODAY
The Ripley County Public Housing Agency will hold a public hearing this morning to share and discuss its 5-Year and Annual Plan and revisions to its Administrative Plan.
Officials say the hearing will begin at 10 am at the office of the
Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission in Poplar Bluff.
The plan will be available for public inspection and public comments are encouraged.

Sacred Heart School’s 25th Annual Fiesta Auction has been scheduled for this weekend.
Officials say the event will be held on Saturday at the Black River Coliseum in Poplar Bluff.

According to a Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the National Weather Service, there is a slight to enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms. The most favorable window for severe weather spans from the afternoon into the early evening hours.
Weather officials say that damaging winds will be the primary concern, but large hail and a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out.
A wind advisory will also be in effect today until 7 pm for most of our listening area. Winds will average 20 to 30 mph in many locations, especially as we get into the afternoon hours. Some wind gusts over 45 mph are also expected.

HUNTER EDUCATION CLASS TO BE HELD IN POPLAR BLUFF
A hunter education class will be held next month in Poplar Bluff.
The Hunter Education Spring Skills Session has been scheduled for Monday, April 4th at the Poplar Bluff Technical Career Center from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
The event is open to the public at no cost, but students must pre register online by March 31st. A link to pre register is available on our website.
Class participants must bring proof of completion of the knowledge portion of the hunter’s education course.

Route BB in Mississippi and New Madrid Counties will be reduced with a 10-foot width restriction for almost a month as contractor crews mill and overlay the roadway.
The section of roadway being reduced is located from Route 80 to Route P.
Weather permitting, work will take place today through Wednesday, April 27th, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
THREE INJURED IN EARLY MORNING WRECK NEAR NEELYVILLE
Three area residents were injured in a wreck early Tuesday morning.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred when a vehicle driven by 65 year old Carlis Emmons, of Holcomb, crossed the centerline of US Highway 67, near Neelyville, and struck a truck head on.
Emmons suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital.
Two others were also seriously injured and taken to area hospitals.
STATE ROAD CREWS WORKING TO REPAIR POTHOLES
The Missouri Department of Transportation says that crews are out working on patching potholes throughout the state.
Officials say that the majority of pothole patching repairs are done from now through the end of April.
Short-term repairs are made using a cold asphalt mix with a priority to fill the deepest potholes first. The long-term fix, a hot asphalt mix, isn’t effective until temperatures remain warm for a prolonged period.
When you see a MoDOT crew making repairs, remember to slow down and move over to give them room to work.
In 2021, MoDOT patched approximately 530,000 potholes and spent $18 million on pothole patching.
RIPLEY COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT TO HOLD SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER NEXT MONTH
The Ripley County Sheriff’s Department will be holding a scholarship fundraiser next month.
Officials say that there will be live country music, including a performance by Dustin Martin, all starting at 6 pm on Saturday, April 23rd at the Doniphan High School gymnasium.
There will also be concessions and a silent auction. Tickets are $10.

STODDARD COUNTY OFFICIALS TO SPEAK AT SUICIDE PREVENTION MEETING TODAY
Multiple speakers will be presenting at a Suicide Prevention Meeting today in Stoddard County.
The meeting is open to the public and will be from 10 am to noon at the Hidden Trails Country Club in Dexter.
The speakers will include Stoddard County Coroner Brent Stidham, Dexter Police Department Captain Cory Mills, and Dexter City Administrator Trevor Pulley, among others.
PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS IN NEW MADRID COUNTY
Route EE in New Madrid County will be reduced with a 10-foot width restriction for almost a month as contractor crew’s mill and overlay the roadway.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway to be reduced is located from Reeder Street to County Road 335.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 5 pm daily through Monday, April 25th.
MARK TWAIN NATIONAL FOREST TO CONDUCT PRESCRIBED BURNING
Officials with Mark Twain National Forest say that multiple prescribed burns will be conducted across the forest.
Forest employees will be conducting spring prescribed burning, as weather allows, in the coming weeks.
A prescribed fire is a fire ignited by highly trained wildland firefighting personnel under very specific fuel and weather conditions. Each prescribed burn will be conducted to minimize smoke impacts to local communities when favorable atmospheric conditions disperse smoke quickly.
Prescribed fires are used to reduce the threat of severe wildfire and to improve the health of native plants and wildlife habitat. Deer, turkey, quail, and other species benefit when plants they depend on for food and cover are rejuvenated using prescribed fire.
Officials say that the Forest is also in its spring fire season and has already responded to several wildfires this year.
ONE FLOWN FROM THE SCENE OF A WRECK IN STODDARD COUNTY
An area man was flown from the scene of a single vehicle wreck Monday in Southeast Missouri.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 25 year old Zackary Moore, of Puxico, was driving on County Road 279, 2 miles east of Puxico in Stoddard County when his vehicle struck an embankment then overturned.
Moore suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was flown to a St. Louis hospital.
DATE ANNOUNCED FOR OPENING OF WAPPAPELLO LAKE BEACHES
The US Army Corps of Engineers has announced when beaches will open at Wappapello Lake.
According to the Corps of Engineers Facebook page, all beaches at Wappapello Lake will be opening on April 22nd. The date could change depending on the lake levels at the time.
The Corps of Engineers have also said that the People’s Creek Lower Campground will be opening on April 6th.

BUTLER COUNTY ROAD TO BE REDUCED TODAY
Route H in Butler County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.
The section of Route H to be reduced is located from Highway 53 to County Road 334 near Qulin.
Work is scheduled to take place through 3 pm this afternoon.
AREA WOMAN ARRESTED ON COCAINE CHARGE IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
An area woman was arrested early Sunday morning in Southeast Missouri on a felony drug charge.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 28 year old Samantha Hunter, of New Madrid, was arrested at around 2 am in Scott County on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance for cocaine.
Hunter is also facing charges of possession of marijuana and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
OPEN ENROLMENT SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK FOR POPLAR BLUFF KINDERGARTEN CENTER
Open Enrolment is scheduled for this week at the Poplar Bluff Kindergarten Center.
If you have a child who will be five years old by July 31st, you can get them enrolled for the next school year.
According to officials, open enrollment is set to take place from 9 am to 2 pm Tuesday through Thursday at the 1200 Camp Road campus. There will also be a session available from 4:30 to 7 pm on Thursday.

BRIDGE REPAIRS SET FOR THIS WEEK IN DUNKLIN COUNTY
U.S. Highway 412 in Dunklin County will be reduced to one lane this week so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform bridge repairs.
The work zone will be located from Route NN to Route U, near Kennett.
Weather permitting, work will take place today through Thursday from 8 am to 4 pm each day.

ARREST MADE IN CONNECTION TO MALDEN SHOOTING
A juvenile is in custody in connection to a shooting this week in Malden.
According to Major Bobby Jones, Assistant Chief of Police with the Malden Department of Public Safety, on March 20th, officers responded to a report of shots fired on North Madison Street at approximately 3:35 AM.
During the investigation, officers located a 20 year old gunshot victim at a hospital in Cape Girardeau.
ARREST MADE IN CONNECTION TO MALDEN SHOOTING

Jones says that officers learned that the shooting stemmed from an argument that began at a Malden area concert. As a result of the argument, a 17 year old male shot the victim in the abdomen with a handgun and then fired several more shots at a vehicle.
The juvenile was taken into custody and officers recovered the firearm used in the shooting. Formal charges were filed through the Dunklin County Juvenile Office.
The victim was treated and later released from the hospital.
CORPS OF ENGINEERS SETS DATE FOR ANNUAL SPRING ROADSIDE CLEANUP
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has set a date for their Annual Spring Roadside Cleanup.
Andrew Jefferson with the Corps of Engineers tells us the event offers volunteers who take pride in their community and public lands a chance to “pitch in” and keep the Wappapello Lake area free of trash and litter. Several designated roadways that lead to the lake will be targeted.
All volunteers are asked to meet at the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center at 8 am on April 9th to receive supplies and instructions. The cleanup is scheduled to last until 11 am.
The Wappapello Lake Area Association will be providing a free lunch for all participants.

DUNKLIN COUNTY IN PROCESS OF VERIFYING 911 ADDRESSES
Officials in Dunklin County are working to improve the county’s 911 maps.
According to 911 director Michael McCammon, a mapping engineer from the county’s 911 mapping contractor is driving throughout the county to verify the 911 addresses of some homes and businesses.
The mapper is stopping in front of some buildings to observe and verify the posted address and validate it in the 911 system.
If no address is posted or legible, the mapper will leave a postage paid return card in a clear plastic bag at the property.
If you receive a return card, Dunklin County 911 requests that you fill out the card and return it promptly.
McCammon says that the mapper’s car will be clearly marked with white signs with red letters that read “911 Mapping.”

COMPROMISE REACHED ON MISSOURI CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT BOUNDARIES
Missouri senators have approved new congressional district boundaries after months of Republican infighting.
The GOP-led Senate on Thursday voted 22-10 in favor of the proposal. The measure now heads back to the House for consideration.
Senate Republicans have been fighting over demands to shore-up Rep. Ann Wagner's suburban St. Louis district for the GOP and a long-shot call to split Kansas City to give Republicans a chance at winning seven of the state's eight districts. Republicans currently hold six U.S. House seats.
The redistricting plan that won Senate approval is projected to continue that while slightly strengthening Wagner's district.

GOVERNOR TO BE IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI TODAY
Missouri Governor Mike Parson will be making multiple stops today in Southeast Missouri.
According to the Governor’s office, Parson will be joining Senator Jason Bean at noon today in Gobler to thank individuals who responded to area tornadoes in December of last year.
Governor Parson will also hold a workforce and higher education roundtable discussion with representatives from Southeast Missouri State University, Three Rivers College, and Mineral Area College in Cape Girardeau.

PUXICO FIRE AND RESCUE TO HOST FISH FRY THIS WEEKEND
A Southeast Missouri fire department will be hosting their first fish fry of the year this weekend.
The Puxico Fire and Rescue fish fry is scheduled for 11 am to 6 pm on Saturday.
Officials say that due to ongoing construction on the new fire station, the event will primarily stick to a drive through format.
APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED FOR NEW HIGHWAY PATROL RECRUIT CLASS
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is seeking applicants for its 117th Recruit Class.
Highway Patrol officials tell KWOC News that qualified individuals of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply and that testing will be offered at nine different locations in Missouri.
The selection process is a multi-phase testing procedure which includes a written examination, a physical fitness for duty assessment, polygraph examination, background investigation, and oral interview board.
To be eligible, candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent and be 21 years of age upon graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy.

WOLF CREEK TRAIL RUN SCHEDULED FOR APRIL
A marathon run is coming this spring to the Poplar Bluff area.
The Poplar Bluff Kiwanis Club and US Forest Service will host the 9th Annual Wolf Creek Trail Run on April 16th. The Half Marathon will begin at 8 am, while the 6K run and 1.7 mile walk will start at 9:30 am.
Proceeds from the event will go to Kiwanis Bacon Memorial Park.

DEXTER CEMETERY ANNUAL SPRING FLOWER REMOVAL SET FOR APRIL 1ST
Dexter residents are being reminded to remove flowers from the Dexter Cemetery by the end of the month.
City officials say that in preparation for spring, the Dexter Street Department will begin their annual Spring Flower Removal at the cemetery on April 1st.
Anyone who does not want their flowers to be discarded should have them removed by that date.
VOLUNTEERS ENCOURAGED TO CLEAN UP LITTER FROM MISSOURI HIGHWAYS
Next month marks the return of Missouri’s No More Trash Bash.
The annual event by the Missouri Department of Transportation encourages volunteers to clean up litter adjacent to highways to help beautify Missouri throughout the month of April.
Officials say it has been held every spring since 2004 except for 2020.
MoDOT will provide trash bags and safety vests to anyone who volunteers. Regionally, events will be announced that people can come join in the litter pickup.

NAMES RELEASED OF FIVE KILLED IN I-57 PILE UP LAST WEEK
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released the names of five people who were killed in a large pile-up crash last week on Interstate 57 in Southeast Missouri.
According to officials, 75 year old William Ryan, of Pevely, Missouri, 51 year old Jesse Jimenez and 45 year old Jose Hernandez, both of Houston, Texas, 30 year old Joshua Wiggins, of Candler, North Carolina, and 22 year old Raina Jamerson, of Kenosha, Wisconsin were all killed in the wreck.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, I-57 was closed in both directions from the Mississippi River to Interstate 55 in Sikeston last Thursday morning from around 8 am to 5 am the next morning.

ONE ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO SHOTS BEING FIRED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
One person has been taken into custody on assault and firearm charges in Hayti.
According to the Hayti Police Department, on Sunday officers were dispatched to West Lee Street after receiving a report of shots being fired.
Following an investigation, Jahmarlon Patterson Jr., of Hayti, was arrested on charges of assault 1st, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Officials say that Patterson is being held at the Pemiscot County Justice Center and no bond has been set.
CLAY COUNTY SHERIFF INVESTIGATING REPORTS OF VEHICLE WINDOWS BEING SHOT OUT
Authorities in Clay County have received multiple reports of vehicle windows being shot out.
According to Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller, on Monday deputies were dispatched to multiple residences in St. Francis in reference to vehicle windows being broken.
One of the victims told deputies that he had been driving in St. Francis when his window was shot out. Miller says that the victim had a mark on his leg that appeared to be from being shot with a pellet.
Deputies were also approached by another individual who advised his driver’s window was also shot and he also had a mark on his arm similar to the earlier victim.
No information was released about a possible suspect in the case.
CEREMONY TO BE HELD TO THANK EMERGENCY RESPONDERS FOR WORK DURING I57 CRASH
A thank you ceremony will be held tomorrow to recognize emergency responders who assisted with incident management, recovery, and clean-up efforts during the large pile up crash on Interstate 57 in Mississippi County last week.
Missouri Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe and Missouri Department of Transportation Director Patrick McKenna are expected to speak at the event, which will be held at the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Southeast District Office in Sikeston.
Multiple agencies that assisted in the incident have been invited to attend the event.
HUNTERS DONATE ALMOST 250 THOUSAND POUNDS OF VENISON TO SHARE THE HARVEST PROGRAM
Missouri hunters have donated almost 250,000 pounds of meat to the state's Share the Harvest Program.
According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, Missouri deer hunters donated 242,774 pounds of venison to the program this past deer season, including over 5,000 whole deer.
Officials say that the donated deer meat goes to local food banks and food pantries to help feed hungry Missourians.
Since the program was started in 1992, it has provided nearly 5 million pounds of lean, healthy venison for hungry people all around the state.

Route H in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews trim trees along the roadway.
The section of roadway to be reduced is located from Route 25 to County Road 667.

MAN LEADS POLICE ON CHASE AFTER ALLEGEDLY STABBING FEMALE WITH A SCREWDRIVER
A Kennett man is in custody after allegedly stabbing a woman with a screwdriver.
Kennett Police Chief Kenny Wilson tells KWOC News that shortly after 9 pm on Sunday, officers began an investigation into a domestic violence incident.
A witness at the scene told officers that the male suspect had stabbed a female victim in the leg with a screwdriver and then forced her into a vehicle.

A witness at the scene told officers that the male suspect had stabbed a female victim in the leg with a screwdriver and then forced her into a vehicle.
Officers located the suspect vehicle at an area parking lot and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle fled the scene which initiated a pursuit that lasted for approximately 90 minutes.
The vehicle traveled into Arkansas before crossing back into Missouri near Qulin. The pursuit came to an end on Highway 84, west of Kennett.
The suspect, identified as 24 year old Joseph Staggs, of Kennett, was arrested on multiple charges including active felony warrants for domestic violence and assault. The female victim was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of a stab wound to her leg.
Staggs is being held in the Dunklin County Jail pending the filing of charges by the Dunklin County Prosecutor.
HEAVY RAINFALL POSSIBLE TODAY IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
We could see some heavy rain today in Southeast Missouri.
According to a Hazardous Weather Outlook from the National Weather Service, locally moderate to heavy rainfall is expected today, which may lead to isolated flooding of poor drainage and flood-prone areas.
Most of Southeast Missouri is expected to receive one half of an inch to two inches of rainfall. Most of Dunklin, New Madrid, and Pemiscot Counties could see up to three inches of rain.
Weather officials say that any thunderstorms that develop today are expected to remain below severe limits.

Sacred Heart School’s 25th Annual Fiesta Auction has been scheduled for next month.
Officials say the event will be held on Saturday, April 2nd at the Black River Coliseum in Poplar Bluff.
There will be both a live as well as a silent auction and doors are set to open at 5 pm, with dinner beginning at 6 pm.

ILLINOIS MAN ARRESTED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI ON FIREARM CHARGE
An Illinois man has been arrested in Southeast Missouri on a felony firearm charge.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 25 year old Jatori Smith, of Chicago, Illinois was taken into custody Sunday night on a felony charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.
Smith also had a felony warrant for a weapon offense out of Cook County, Illinois.
Following the arrest, Smith was held at the New Madrid County Jail.
SEMO SPORTSMAN’S BANQUET SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEKEND
Preparations are underway for the annual Southeast Missouri Sportsman’s Association Banquet coming up this weekend.
The banquet will begin at 5 pm on Saturday at the American Legion on PP Highway in Poplar Bluff.
Organizers say there will be a chicken dinner available for $7 a plate as well as entertainment and door prizes.
Proceeds from the event will go to fund the Kid’s Fish and Fun Day.
BRIDGE REHABILITATION PROJECT UNDERWAY IN WAYNE COUNTY
Route 34 in Wayne County will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction through mid-July so contractor crews can rehabilitate the bridge over the St. Francis River.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the bridge is located between County Road 310 and County Road 312 near Silva.
Weather permitting, work will continue through the project’s completion, which is anticipated to be by Friday, July 15th.

The New Madrid County Eagles weren’t able to play for a state championship this past weekend, but did get a nice consolation prize.
The Eagles defeated Pembroke Hill 64-51 in the Class 4 third place game Saturday in Springfield.
New Madrid County Central fell to the third place game after losing to eventual Class 4 state champion Vashon 48-39 in the state semi-final on Friday.

TWO ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON METH CHARGES
Two Butler County residents were taken into custody last week on felony drug charges.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 30 year old Devini Sansoucie and 28 year old Kreg Atkisson, both of Poplar Bluff, were each arrested Thursday night on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
Both are also facing a charge of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

MASSIVE CRASH RESULTS IN MULTIPLE FATALITIES ON INTERSTATE 57 NEAR CHARLESTON
Over 100 vehicles were involved in a pile-up crash Thursday morning on Interstate 57 in Mississippi County.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, I-57 was closed in both directions from the Mississippi River to Interstate 55 in Sikeston while crews were clearing the crash area between mile markers 10 and 12.
Officials say the crash resulted in at least six fatalities and numerous injuries.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene including the Regional Homeland Security Response Team, a hazmat and rescue team of first responders from Sikeston, Cape Girardeau, Jackson, and EMS from Butler and Stoddard Counties.
LADY RAIDERS SEASON COMES TO AN END IN THE SECOND ROUND OF THE NJCAA TOURNAMENT
The Three Rivers College Lady Raiders were down 20 points before getting on the board on their way to a second round exit in the NJCAA Division 1 Women’s Basketball Championship.
The number one seed Lady Raiders fell to 17 seed Tyler Junior College 70-42, ending Three Rivers undefeated season with a 28-1 record.
The Apaches jumped on the Lady Raiders early, scoring the first 20 points of the game and were up at half-time 42-11.
NEW MADRID COUNTY CENTRAL TO PLAY TODAY IN CLASS 4 STATE SEMIFINAL
The New Madrid County Central Eagles are one game away from playing for a state championship.
The Eagles will take on the Vashon Wolverines this evening in the Class 4 Boys State Semi-final.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm in Springfield.
With a win, the Eagles would advance to the Class 4 State Championship game on Saturday, where they would take on the winner of the matchup between Father Tolton Regional Catholic and Pembroke Hill.
TWO ARRESTED ON COCAINE CHARGE IN MISSOURI BOOTHEEL
Two Tennessee residents were arrested on multiple felony drug charges late Wednesday night in the Missouri Bootheel.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 29 year old Demetric Roundtree and Tavarius Davis, both of Dyersburg, Tennessee, were each arrested on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance for cocaine, alprazolam, oxycodone, and Percocet.
Both men are also facing a charge of possession of marijuana.
Following their arrests, they were both transported to the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Office.
SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS TO CAUSE DELAYS ON ROUTE WW IN BUTLER COUNTY
Missouri Route WW is being reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction through the end of next week as contractor crews improve sidewalks in Poplar Bluff.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the project is part of MoDOT’s initiative to bring roadway facilities into compliance with the current standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The work zone is located between Cherry Street and Henderson Avenue.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 5 pm daily through Friday, March 25th.

Westbound Route 60 in Carter County will be reduced to one lane through the middle of next month as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

DRIVER STRIKES TWO BUTLER COUNTY DEPUTY VEHICLES DURING TRAFFIC STOP
A woman has been taken into custody after striking two Butler County Sheriff’s Department vehicles during a traffic stop Tuesday night.
Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News, that at approximately 10:48 pm Tuesday night, two Butler County deputies were conducting a traffic stop on Highway 53.
During the stop a third party vehicle struck both of the officers’ vehicles. The vehicle was being driven by 29 year old Hayley Davis, of Qulin.
Dobbs says that Davis was operating her vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and also while using her cell phone.
Both officers and a Butler County K9 officer were not seriously injured during the incident.
Davis has been arrested on charges of first degree assault on a law enforcement officer and driving while intoxicated.
Following the arrest, she was held at the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
MALDEN MAN SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS IN PRISON ON FIREARM CHARGE
A Malden man has been sentenced to multiple years in prison for a firearm charge.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 25 year old Keith Farr pleaded guilty last December to the charge of felon in possession of a firearm.
According to court documents, Farr was pulled over for a traffic violation last August. During the stop, a stolen semi-automatic pistol and a small bag of methamphetamine were discovered in the vehicle.
Officials say that a criminal background check revealed Farr had prior felony convictions for burglary, theft, and unlawfully possessing a firearm.
Farr has been sentenced to serve seven years in federal prison on the firearm charge. After serving his sentence, Farr will be placed on supervised release for a period of three years.

Two road projects are scheduled to get underway today in Stoddard County.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route Y will be closed today from County Road 535 to County Road 551, near Aquilla as contractor crews perform railroad maintenance.
Officials say the road will be closed from approximately 9 am to 2 pm.
Today and tomorrow, Business Route 60 in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane from 8 am to 3 pm each day so MoDOT crews can perform pavement repairs.
The work zone will be located between Route AD and Sycamore Road in Dexter.
CARTER COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED FOR THE REST OF THIS WEEK

The plan unveiled this week is based on the 2020 census results and would take effect for this year's elections.
The judicial panel took over redistricting after a bipartisan commission failed to agree on maps.

The new map would see an expansion to Senate District 25 in Southeast Missouri. The district previously included Butler, Stoddard, New Madrid, Dunklin, Pemiscot, Mississippi, Carter, and Shannon Counties.
Under the new map, the district would also add Ripley, Oregon, and Wayne Counties, while losing Shannon County to Senate District #33.
Because no new map had been adopted yet candidates so far have been filing for office under the districts drawn after the 2010 census. But they could have a chance to file based on the new proposed districts before the filing period ends on March 29th.
PUBLIC INVITED TO PROVIDE COMMENTS AS A PART OF THE PBPD ACCREDITATION PROCESS
Poplar Bluff residents will have an opportunity to give their opinion on various aspects of the Poplar Bluff Police Department as a part of the PD’s accreditation process.
According to Police Chief Danny Whiteley, a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Incorporated, will conduct a virtual assessment on March 21st and 22nd to examine all aspects of the Poplar Bluff Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services,

MULTIPLE CAMPGROUNDS OPENING TODAY AT WAPPAPELLO LAKE.
Camping season is coming up and the Corps of Engineers at Wappapello Lake is ready for visitors.
According to officials, the Greenville Campground and Redman Creek Campground East are both opening for the year today.
The Peoples Creek Campgrounds upper and lower are scheduled to open to the public on April 6th.
Officials say that the Redman Creek Campground West and Snow Creek are open all year.
On March 25th, the Redman Creek Picnic Shelter #1 will open as will the fish cleaning station. March 26th will see the opening of the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center on weekends from 10 am to 4 pm.
Beaches will open to the public on April 22nd.

STATE OFFICIALS URGE DRIVERS TO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE
St. Patrick’s Day is this week and Arkansas state officials are urging everyone to celebrate responsibly.
According to the Arkansas State Police, law enforcement officers are teaming up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to spread the message about the dangers of drunk driving.
According to NHTSA officials, during the 2019 St. Patrick’s Day period almost half of crash fatalities involved a drunk driver.
Additionally, from 2015 to 2019, a total of 280 lives were lost in drunk driving crashes during the St. Patrick’s Day period.
Drivers should also keep an eye out for pedestrians who have had too much to drink. Walking while intoxicated can also be deadly, as lack of attention to their surroundings could put pedestrians at risk of getting hit by a vehicle.

DEXTER MAN CONVICTED FOR ENTICEMENT OF A CHILD
A Dexter man has been convicted of using social media to try to meet up with what he thought was an underage child for sex.
Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney, Russ Oliver, tells KWOC News that a Stoddard County jury has found 42 year old Robert Cooper guilty of felony enticement of a child.
DEXTER MAN CONVICTED FOR ENTICEMENT OF A CHILD
A Dexter man has been convicted of using social media to try to meet up with what he thought was an underage child for sex.
Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney, Russ Oliver, tells KWOC News that a Stoddard County jury has found 42 year old Robert Cooper guilty of felony enticement of a child.
Oliver says that the case centered on the defendant luring, through Facebook Messenger, what he thought was a 13 year old girl to a motel in Dexter. However, at the motel Cooper met with Dexter Police.
Cooper was later interviewed by a Dexter Detective and admitted that he was the person engaged in the Facebook messaging conversation with the fake 13 year old girl.
On Monday, the jury recommended a 20 year sentence in the Missouri Department of Corrections. A final sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 25th where the judge will determine if the jury’s sentence will be accepted or if he will enter a different sentence.
SEVEN YEAR OLD CHILD KILLED IN A WRECK NEAR CHARLESTON
A seven your old child has died after being involved in a single vehicle wreck Sunday night.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicle was traveling on Route O, near Charleston in Mississippi County, when it ran off of the side of the road, overturned, and struck an embankment.
A seven year old passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
HUNTER EDUCATION CLASS TO BE HELD IN POPLAR BLUFF
A hunter education class will be held next month in Poplar Bluff.
The Hunter Education Spring Skills Session has been scheduled for Monday, April 4th at the Poplar Bluff Technical Career Center from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION TO RELEASE UPDATED HUNTING AND FISHING REGULATIONS
The Missouri Department of Conservation has announced that updated booklets for hunting and fishing regulations will be available this month.
Officials say that hunters, trappers, anglers, and others can get free copies of its updated booklets on 2022 Spring Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information, Summary of Missouri Hunting and Trapping Regulations, Summary of Missouri Fishing Regulations, and the Wildlife Code of Missouri.
The booklets will be available at MDC regional offices, MDC nature centers, and other places where permits are sold.
The booklet information will also be available at mdc.mo.gov.
DONIPHAN STREET TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR DEBRIS REMOVAL
A Doniphan street will be closed today so crews can remove debris in the area.
According to the Doniphan Police Department, the City of Doniphan Utilities Department, along with other agencies, will be working to clear debris near the bridge on the 400 block of Pine Street beginning at 8 am this morning.
Officials say that Pine Street will be closed from Jackson Street east to Vine Street during the project.
SEVEN AND A HALF MONTH LONG ROAD PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN WAYNE COUNTY
Route D in Wayne County will be closed beginning today as contractor crews raise and realign the roadway.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section of roadway to be closed is located between East Fork Lost Creek and County Road 524.

ONE DEAD FOLLOWING SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK IN RURAL CLAY COUNTY

According to the Arkansas State Police, 23 year old Jose Morales, of Portland, Indiana, was driving on US Highway 67 in Clay County, early Saturday morning, when his vehicle ran off the side of the road and went into a water filled ditch.
A passenger in the vehicle, 37 year old Jessica Cruz, also of Portland, Indiana, was killed in the wreck.

CHARLESTON AND SOUTH IRON COUNTY CLAIM STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Two Southeast Missouri schools are celebrating state basketball championships.
The Charleston Blue Jays won the Class 3 State Championship with a 58-56 win over Lafayette County on Friday.
In Class 1, the South Iron Panthers are state champions following their 71-45 win over Stanberry on Saturday.
Bernie fell in the Class 2 State Championship game by one point, losing to Norwood 64-63. The Ellington girl’s team were also eliminated in the Class 2 final, losing 52-31 to Wellington-Napoleon.
In Class 4, the New Madrid County Central Eagles have made it to the state final four. The Eagles defeated Lift for Life Academy Charter over the weekend 59-46 in the state quarterfinal.
New Madrid County will play Vashon on Friday in the Class 4 Semi-final.
DEXTER MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER IN CONNECTION TO NORTHEAST ARKANSAS HOMICIDE
A Dexter man has been charged with murder in connection to a fatal shooting last week in Northeast Arkansas.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, 30 year old Heath Hunsaker is in custody on a charge of first degree murder for the death of 35 year old Matthew Hale.
Hale’s body was found with gunshot wounds last week at a residence near Rector.
The investigation led authorities to Hunsaker, who was found in Poplar Bluff. Officials say that Hunsaker confessed to the shooting.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department, Arkansas State Police, and Missouri State Highway Patrol were all involved in the investigation.
WATER TO BE SHUT OFF IN CARDWELL THIS MORNING FOR REPAIRS
A Dunklin County city will be without water for a period of time this morning due to repairs.
According to the City of Cardwell, water will be turned off in the city this morning at 8 am to repair a leak.
No timetable was given for when water would be restored. Officials also say that the city will be under a boil water order starting today.

Route 34 in Wayne County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews repair the bridge over Black River.
Officials say that the work zone will be located between County Road 459A and County Road 459.
