THREE RIVERS COLLEGE LADY RAIDERS WIN REGION 16 AND CENTRAL DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

The Three Rivers College Lady Raiders are packing their bags for Texas.

The Lady Raiders defeated the Moberly Lady Grayhounds Saturday 81-73 to win the NJCAA Region 16 and Central District.

Following the game, Myia Yelder was named Region 16 Player of the Year while the Lady Raiders coach Alex Wiggs received the Region 16 Coach of the Year award.

THREE RIVERS COLLEGE TO HOST NJCAA REGION 16 TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND

Three Rivers College will host the NJCAA Region 16 Women’s Basketball tournament this weekend at the Libla Family Sports Complex.

The semifinals will be held tonight as the undefeated number 1 seed Lady Raiders will take on Jefferson College at 5 pm. The second semi-final tonight at 7 pm will feature Moberly versus Mineral Area College.

The winners of tonight’s games will face each other Saturday night at 7 pm.

FIVE KILLED IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS WRECK

Five people have died from a Tuesday night wreck in Northeast Arkansas.

Officials with the Arkansas State Police tell KWOC News that a vehicle, driven by 19 year old Jacob Lee, of Manila, crossed over the center line in a curve on State Highway 18 and collided with an oncoming vehicle.

Lee was killed in the wreck, as was a passenger in his vehicle, 40 year old Daniel Spray, of Rector.

POPLAR BLUFF MULES TO CONTINUE DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP CAMPAIGN TONIGHT

The Poplar Bluff Mules varsity boys basketball team will be continuing their campaign for a district championship tonight.

The Mules will be taking on their rival Jackson at 5 pm at St. Louis University High School in the Class 6, District 1 Semifinal.

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY A VEHICLE IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle Sunday in New Madrid County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 54 year old Patrick Keil, of Iowa City, Iowa, was conducting maintenance on the towed unit of a vehicle on Interstate 55 when he was hit by a vehicle.

WINTER STORM WARNING TO BE IN EFFECT THROUGH TONIGHT

A winter storm warning will be in effect through this evening.

According to the National Weather Service, most of Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas will be under the warning through 6 pm today.

Total ice accumulations from two tenths to near one half of an inch are possible with this system.

Scattered power outages and some tree damage are likely due to the ice as well as hazardous travel conditions.

WINTER STORM WARNING TO BE IN EFFECT STARTING TONIGHT

A winter storm warning will go into effect this evening.

According to the National Weather Service, most of Southeast Missouri will be under the warning from 6 pm tonight to 6 pm on Thursday.

The Winter Storm Warning in the Missouri bootheel and Northeast Arkansas will run from noon today to 6 pm tomorrow night.

FLOOD WATCH TO BE IN EFFECT FOR SOUTHEAST MISSOURI THROUGH THIS EVENING

A flood watch is currently scheduled to continue through this evening for Southeast Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service, heavy rain is forecast to fall today on recently saturated ground. Widespread amounts totaling two to three inches are forecast with locally higher totals possible.

The excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

ONE KILLED IN TRAIN VEHICLE COLLISION

One person has died following a train-vehicle collision in Butler County.

According to officials the crash occurred when a train struck a vehicle Sunday evening on County Road 620, off of B Highway, east of Poplar Bluff.

Butler County Coroner Jim Akers tells KWOC News that the deceased has been identified as 52 year old Mark Arnold, of Fisk.

MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR STODDARD COUNTY MURDER

A man will spend the rest of his life in prison in connection to a murder in Dexter.

Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Russell Oliver tells KWOC News that Joshua Koonce, of Dexter, pled guilty last November for the 2018 stabbing death of Jimmy Casey.

Oliver says that Judge Joe Satterfield sentenced Koonce Thursday to life imprisonment for the count of murder in the second degree and 15 years for the count of armed criminal action, ordering those sentences to be served consecutively.

SCHOOL BUS CRASH INJURES 20 PEOPLE IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

A total of 20 people were injured when a school bus crashed late Tuesday night.

According to Superintendent Seth Bryant, students and coaches of the Koshkonong School District were returning to school after basketball games Tuesday night when their school bus was involved in an accident on Highway 99.

Officials with the Highway Patrol tell us that the bus ran off the roadway and struck several trees before coming to rest on its passenger side in a ditch.

THREE RIVERS COLLEGE TO HOST EVERYONE’S A RAIDER NIGHT

Area residents will have the opportunity tonight to watch the Lady Raiders and Raiders play against Mineral Area College free of charge.

The college is hosting “Everyone’s a Raider Night” beginning with the Lady Raiders at 5 pm and the Raiders at 7 pm, at the Libla Family Sports Complex. Admission is free to all local students and two parents per student will also receive free admission.

All students will receive a voucher for a free piece of pizza and water.

NEW DIRECTOR CHOSEN FOR POPLAR BLUFF MUNICIPAL LIBRARY

A new director has been chosen for the Poplar Bluff Municipal Library.

Shannon Midyett was named the Director Designate by unanimous vote last week at the Library Board of Trustees meeting. She begins her full duties as director in January 2023.

Midyett has worked for the Poplar Bluff Library for almost 27 years.

EAST CARTER COUNTY REDIBIRDS TAKE TWO OF THREE OFC CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2022 Ozark Foothills Conference Championship Friday was a night for the birds.

The East Carter County Redbirds took home both the boys Varsity and Junior Varsity championships Friday night at the Libla Family Sports Complex in Poplar Bluff.

The Varsity team beat Greenville 57-51 while the Junior Varsity Redbirds took care of Twin Rivers 51-44.

East Carter’s hopes of a triple championship was dashed on the girl’s side as Doniphan defeated the Lady Redbirds 49-36.

TODAY IS CHAMPIONSHIP FRIDAY AT THE OFC TOURNAMENT

The Championship games are set for the 2022 Ozark Foothills Conference Tournament.

East Carter will take on Greenville in the boys varsity final tonight after both teams picked up victories Thursday night. East Carter defeated Twin Rivers 78 to 47 and Greenville picked up the win over Doniphan 63-61.

In the Junior Varsity semi-final played Thursday night, Twin Rivers beat Doniphan 34-27

TWO MAYNARD RESIDENTS KILLED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK

Two Maynard residents were killed in a single vehicle wreck early Wednesday morning.

According to the Arkansas State Police, the wreck occurred on Highway 115 in Randolph County when a vehicle ran off the highway and rolled before hitting a power pole.

Officials say that the driver of the vehicle, 58 year old Benny Burgess, and a passenger, 63 year old Nita Burgess, were both killed in the crash.

POPLAR BLUFF TRAILS COALITION RECEIVES AWARD FROM FOREST SERVICE

The Poplar Bluff Trails Coalition was recently recognized for their work rebuilding trails in the area.

The Trails Coalition has been named the winner of the Restoration Partner Award as a part of the USDA Forest Service 2021 Volunteer and Service Awards.

Through its "Trail Stewards" program, the PBTC has restored more than 54 miles of Forest Service trails in Mark Twain National Forest.

SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK LEAVES ONE DEAD IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

A single vehicle wreck in Northeast Arkansas has resulted in the death of a Paragould man.

According to the Arkansas State Police, 34 year old James Fears Jr. was driving on State Highway 358 in rural Greene County Sunday night when his vehicle ran off the icy road and overturned.
