But the unbuckled 12 percent make up a majority of the state’s roadway fatalities, which spiked in 2020 despite a decrease in traffic volume. More than two-thirds of the drivers and passengers killed in traffic crashes last year were not wearing a seat belt.

TWO BEARS HARVESTED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AS A PART OF MISSOURI BLACK BEAR SEASON

Seven bears have been harvested in Missouri as a part of the state’s first black bear hunting season.

The season began on October 18th and will run through the 27th. The hunters approved for the season were drawn earlier this year from a random drawing of applicants.

According to officials, two of the bears were killed in Southeast Missouri, while the other five were in Southwest Missouri.

The MDC proposed a limited and highly regulated black-bear hunting season following several years of public comment, including informational open houses in 2019 and a public-input process in the spring and fall of 2020.
