U.S. CAPITOL LOCKED DOWN FOLLOWING BOMBS THREATS AND SHOOTING VICTIM
The U.S. Capitol was forced into lockdown after a shooting and bomb threats were reported.
The Senate went into recess, and both the Cannon House Office Building and Madison Library of Congress building were evacuated because of a bomb threat that was reported. Suspicious packages were also reportedly found in the area.
During the evacuation, demonstrators came close to breaching through the fencing that was set up to hold the crowds back. This caused the entire Capitol plaza to be closed off, even to members trying to go into the chamber for the joint session.
Few details are available of the shooting, though it was reported that shots were fired as lawmakers were evacuating from the buildings, and that an arm standoff occurred at the House front door.
A victim of the shooting was transported from the Capitol building around 2 pm, and House members were warned to potentially relocate to the cloakroom.

MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON SEVERAL WARRANTS
A man was arrested in Stoddard County on Wednesday on multiple warrant charges.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 44 year old William Creutz Jr., of Doniphan, was booked on Stoddard County Warrants for: 1st degree harassment, 1st degree trespassing, and resisting or interfering with an arrest.
He was also charged on two warrants for possession of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following his arrest, Creutz was transported to the Stoddard County Jail.
ROADWAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY SCHEDULED TO CLOSE FOR MAINTENANCE
A roadway in Dunklin County will be closed while undergoing maintenance.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route 62, from County Road 303 to the Missouri/Arkansas State Line, will be closed while MODOT crews replace a culvert under the roadway.
The work will start on Tuesday, and is expected to be completed on Wednesday, from 8 am to 3 pm daily.
CANDIDATES ADDED TO APRIL BALLOT RACE FOR CITY AND SCHOOL ELECTIONS
Several candidates have been added to the April ballot for positions involving city and school elections, which ends on January 19th.
Two seats are being contested for the Poplar Bluff R-1 School District by current incumbents Ken Davis and Tim Gaebler, alongside recent contestant Kevin Ellis.
For the Poplar Bluff City Council, two candidates have filed for the open seats in Ward 2 and Ward 4. Jerrica Fox, a former council member, has filed for Ward 2, which is currently held by Ed DeGaris. Shane Cornman, the current seat holder for Ward 4, is running for re-election.
Incumbents Donna Ashcraft-Fincher and Keith Parker have also filed for two seats at the Twin Rivers R-X School Board.
Positions for Ward 2 and Mayor are currently being filed for the Neelyville City Council. Current Incumbent for Ward 2, John Knowles, and Mayor Kevin Bynum, are both running for re-election.
Ronald Hover Jr. has filed for one of the seats at the Neelyville R-IV School Board, which are being held by Jim Hover and Gene Russom.
Incumbent Cheryl Johnson has filed for the one year term for Qulin Alderman in Ward 1.
Positions for two seats at Ward 1, as well as a seat at Ward 2 for the Fisk City Council, have yet to be filed.
PUXICO WOMAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON MULTIPLE DRUG RELATED CHARGES
A Puxico woman was taken into custody in Stoddard County on Wednesday on several drug related charges.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 28 year old Olivia Pratt was arrested on several felony warrants out of Wayne County.
The charges include warrants for dangerous drugs, possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Pratt also faces a charge on a Poplar Bluff warrant for larceny.
She was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following her arrest.
EARTHQUAKE REPORTED OUT OF NEW MADRID COUNTY
An Earthquake was reported in New Madrid County on Wednesday.
According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 2.1 earthquake was recorded around 5 pm on Wednesday evening.
The quake was centered about 3 miles north of Marston, and had a depth of around 6 miles.

COVID-19 VACCINATIONS ARRIVING AND BEING ADMINISTERED IN POPLAR BLUFF
Shipments of the coronavirus vaccinations are being delivered and administered in Poplar Bluff.
According to Marcus Selvidge, the Chief Quality Officer at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, the center received its first shipment of the Pfizer vaccine on Tuesday, and administered doses to roughly 360 frontline healthcare workers.
The John J Pershing VA Medical Center will be administering doses of the Moderna vaccine to veterans of age 85 and older starting on Thursday. The vaccinations will take place from 9 am to 3 pm on weekdays, including two Saturdays: January 16th, and January 30th.
The Center has received about 700 doses of the vaccine, and will move on to administering them to veterans of age 75 to 84 as supplies become readily available.
The vaccinations require two injections for the appropriate immune response, and hold an efficacy rate of 95%.
Health officials are urging residents to keep safety and hygiene in mind while vaccinations become available, and to continue wearing face masks to protect themselves from potentially catching or spreading the virus.

BERNIE MAN ARRESTED IN DUNKLIN COUNTY ON DRUG AND FIREARM POSSESSION
A Bernie man was taken into custody in Dunklin County on Monday on drug and firearm possession.
According to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department, 39 year old Charles Southard was arrested on a felony charge for possession of a firearm, and felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
Southard also faces a felony charge on possession of drug paraphernalia, and several vehicle related offenses.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Dunklin County Jail.
GOVERNOR MIKE PARSON HOLDING BRIEFING ON STATE’S CURRENT EVENTS TODAY
Missouri Governor Mike Parson is scheduled to hold a briefing today.
Governor Parson will be holding the meeting at 3 pm, with the focus of updating residents on Missouri’s current events, and future plans.
The meeting will be broadcast live on Governor Parson’s Facebook page for anyone who wants to view it.
MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL RELEASES RESULTS FOR NEW YEAR’S COUNTING PERIOD
The Missouri State Highway Patrol released the results of the 2021 New Year’s counting period on Monday.
According to Superintendent Colonel Eric Olson, the counting period saw 458 crashes, 97 injuries, 4 deaths, and 135 DWI arrests. There were no boating related crashes or drownings.
Last year's counting period reported 323 crashes, 140 injuries, 1 fatality, and 58 DWI arrests.
The counting period ran from 6 pm on December 31st, through 11:59 pm on January 3rd.
APARTMENT BUILDING HEAVILY DAMAGED FOLLOWING STRUCTURE FIRE IN KENNETT
A building was heavily damaged by a structure fire on Tuesday in Kennett.
According to the Kennett Fire Department, officials received a call Tuesday morning about a structure fire at an apartment building at Beaton Street.
Firefighter crews responded to the scene, where the complex was completely engulfed from all sides by the time crews arrived.
All occupants were able to escape safely, and the families involved were assisted by authorities with the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office.
TWO MEN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES
Two men were arrested in Stoddard County on Tuesday on multiple drug related charges.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 18 year olds Caleb Smith, of Zalma, and James Douglas, of Scott City, were taken into custody on felony possession of a controlled substance – morphine tablets.
They also face charges on possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
The two were transported to the Stoddard County Jail following their arrests.

POPLAR BLUFF MURDER SUSPECT APPREHENDED IN WEST VIRGINIA
Updating a story we brought to you previously, a Poplar Bluff man, who was wanted for murder, has been taken into custody in West Virginia.
Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tell KWOC News that on December 1st of 2020, 25 year old Stacy Gipson, along with 22 year old Christopher Gilmore, went to purchase narcotics from a residence in the 100 block of Begley Street.
At the time, the home was occupied by 23 year olds Kevin Sanders and Adriana Lundy, both of Poplar Bluff.
Upon arriving at the home, Gipson attempted to rob and subsequently shot both Sanders and Lundy. Lundy’s condition was noted as severe, but non-life threatening, while Sanders died from his injuries.
Gilmore was quickly taken into custody, however Gipson managed to evade authorities, and was believed to have fled the state.
On December 9th, officials in Cape Girardeau reported to Poplar Bluff authorities that Gipson was possibly at his mother’s residence in Charleston, West Virginia. On December 31st, around 9:15 am, Gipson was located by authorities, and was taken into custody after a short pursuit on foot.
At the time of his arrest, Gipson was wanted for charges on 2nd degree murder, 1st degree assault, armed criminal action, and 1st degree robbery and burglary.
Authorities with the Criminal Investigation Division in Poplar Bluff, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Butler County Sheriff’s Department, and US Marshals Service in Cape Girardeau and West Virginia assisted in the month-long hunt for Gipson.

SEVERAL JOB POSITIONS IN POPLAR BLUFF FILED BY CITY COUNCIL
There were several job positions filled by the Poplar Bluff City Council on Monday.
According to the council, the positions were filed during a meeting on Monday, and included appointing code enforcement officer James Sisk as the city’s planner. Sisk will be organizing and directing departments related to planning, animal control, and code enforcement.
Greg Smith, a longtime employee at the Black River Coliseum, will be replacing former Director Bobby Godwin as the director of the Coliseum.
Replacements for the vacancies have not yet been filled, though the changes have already been approved in the 2021 city budget.
MAN ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION AND STEALING
A man was arrested in New Madrid County on Wednesday for drug possession and stealing.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, Christopher Simpson was taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance, and stealing.
These charges stem from an investigation made by the department after a search warrant was executed at Simpson’s residence. There, narcotics and stolen property were located.
Following his arrest, Simpson was transported to the Mississippi County Jail, with no bond.
AUTHORITIES SEARCHING FOR VEHICLE IN SUSPECTED HIT-AND-RUN INCIDENT
Authorities in Poplar Bluff are searching for a vehicle in relation to a suspected hit and run incident on Monday.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, a potential hit-and-run incident occurred at the intersection of Victor and Marshall streets, around 4:00 pm on Monday.
The vehicle, described as being maroon, fled the scene.

ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED ACROSS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI; STATE TOTAL NOW OVER 402,000
The total cases of coronavirus in the state have passed 402,000, while additional cases have continued to be reported across Southeast Missouri.
According to the Butler County Health Department, 54 cases were reported on Monday, bringing the County’s total cases to 3,620. In Stoddard County, 20 new cases were reported over the weekend, and the County now stands at 2,701 cases. Of them, 96 are active, while 2,545 have recovered.
Dunklin County now stands at 2,724 cases. Of them, 2,653 have recovered, while 53 are currently active.
In Missouri, as of Monday, there are now 402,957 cases of the virus in the state, while 5,562 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

NEW MADRID COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT SEARCHING FOR FELONY SUSPECT
The New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department is asking for assistance in locating a felony suspect.
Officials report that the department is currently searching for Adam Mainord, who is wanted on a no bond felony warrant for probation and parole violation. A picture of him is available on the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department’s Facebook page.

SEVERAL OFFICIALS IN BUTLER COUNTY SWORN IN TO 2021 TERMS
There were several Butler County officials sworn in to their 2021 terms by Presiding Circuit Judge Michael Pritchett on Thursday morning.
Among the elected officials were Butler County Commissioners Butch Anderson and Boots LeGrand, Treasurer Tammy Marler, and County Assessor Chris Rickman.
Former western district commissioner Jeff Darnell was also sworn in as Public Administrator, replacing former incumbent Sharron Payne.
Jim Akers was sworn in as Butler County Coroner, after outvoting former incumbent Andy Moore, and Mark Dobbs will be continuing his service as Butler County Sheriff.
This will be Judge Michael Pritchett’s last term as Presiding Circuit Judge. He has been serving for over ten years since first being elected in 2010.
The ceremony was held in the Division 1 Courtroom at the Butler County Courthouse.

BERNIE WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG RELATED CHARGES
A woman from Bernie was charged on drug related offenses in Stoddard County on Friday.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 32 year old Misty Cecil was booked on a Stoddard County Warrant for possession of a controlled substance.
She was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following her arrest, with a bond of $12,500.
SERIOUS INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING MULTI VEHICLE CRASH IN PEMISCOT COUNTY
A driver suffered serious injuries following a three-vehicle crash in Pemiscot County on Thursday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident took place at 4:00 PM, on Route U at 155, west of Caruthersville.
The crash occurred when a vehicle turned left onto westbound Route U and struck another oncoming car. As a result of the collision, the struck vehicle lost control, and hit another car in the roadway.
Following the crash, the driver, 51 year old Charles Jones, of Caruthersville, was transported to a Dyersburg hospital for treatment.
THREE HOUSE FIRES REPORTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY
Three house fires were reported in Parma of New Madrid County on Thursday.
According to authorities, crews with the Parma Fire Department, alongside Lilbourn and Malden firefighters, responded to a call of multiple house fires around 11 pm, on 200 North Caney Street.
There, the three homes were heavily engulfed by the time firefighter crews arrived at the scene. They managed to extinguish the flames by 3 am.
Firefighter crews believe that the incident was caused when flames from the first house spread to the other two homes. The cause of the initial fire is currently unknown.
Two of the houses were completely destroyed by the flames, and the third sustained severe damage. No injuries were reported from the incident.
ARREST MADE IN PEMISCOT COUNTY ON COCAINE POSSESSION
A man was arrested in Pemiscot County on Sunday on a drug possession charge.
According to the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department, 54 year old Billy Glazier, of Nacogdoches Texas, was taken into custody on a felony charge for possession of a controlled substance – cocaine.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Pemiscot County Jail.

An Earthquake shook parts of Southeast Missouri on Friday.
According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 2.4 earthquake was recorded at 8:45 Friday morning.
The quake was centered around 4 miles northwest of Doniphan, and had a depth of around a mile.

POPLAR BLUFF RESIDENT CHARGED ON IN RELATION TO LOCAL SHOOTING
Updating a story we brought to you previously, a Poplar Bluff man was charged on Tuesday in relation to a shooting that resulted in a death.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, 44 year old Gregory Richie was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, as well as tampering with physical evidence, in regards to a shooting that caused the death of 30 year old Tanika Trice, of Poplar Bluff.
The shooting was reported on December 22nd, where officers responded to a call about a shooting at a residence in the 800 block of Valley Street.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they found Trice laying unresponsive in the driveway, where she was pronounced dead at the scene.
In an interview with investigators, Richie told authorities that Trice had entered Richie’s bedroom with a black male subject, who was reportedly holding a firearm.
After demanding Richie turn over his possessions, the male took a TV from his home and began to flee. Richie then grabbed a firearm, and fired four shots at the subject.
After the male fled in a white passenger vehicle, Richie reportedly got in his vehicle and attempted to chase the male’s vehicle.
After authorities recovered the firearm used by Richie in the shooting, he was booked at the Butler County Jail, with a $50,000 cash or surety bond.

ADDITIONAL COVID-19 RELATED CASES AND DEATHS REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY
Additional coronavirus related cases and fatalities were reported in Butler County on Wednesday.
According to Butler County Health Department Director Emily Goodin, 31 new cases of the virus were reported on Wednesday, bringing the County’s total cases to 3,535. Of the total cases in the County, 182 are active, and 3,353 are out of isolation.
There were also four deaths reported on Wednesday, and the County now stands at 36 deaths caused by the virus.
Following the State’s COVID-19 plan, Butler County is currently focusing on Phase 1A of the coronavirus vaccination plan, which focuses on frontline healthcare providers, and workers who make direct contact with patients.
GOVERNOR MIKE PARSON DISCUSSES VACCINE DISTRIBUTION DURING COVID-19 RELATED BRIEFING
Missouri Governor Mike Parson discussed Missouri’s distribution for the coronavirus vaccine during a briefing on Wednesday.
The meeting was held around 1 pm yesterday, where Governor Parson announced that Missouri has received shipments of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccinations, and that vaccines have been administered for the past few weeks.
Under the current plan for vaccine distribution, the state is currently working through Phase 1A, which focuses on vaccinating frontline healthcare workers. Further details on Phase 1B will be revealed in the coming days.
As of the meeting, 66,000 healthcare workers have been vaccinated, and over 150,000 doses will be administered over the next two weeks.
DATE SET FOR MISSOURI GOVERNOR MIKE PARSON’S STATE ADDRESS
A date has been set for when Governor Parson will be giving his State of the State Address.
Items of discussion include Missouri’s current budget, alongside the rate of violent crimes in the state, and various topics regarding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Parson will be giving the Address in the House Chamber in Jefferson City on January 27th, 2021, at 3 pm.

INTERSTATE IN PEMISCOT COUNTY SLATED FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS
An Interstate running through Pemiscot County will be reduced while repairs are underway.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Southbound Interstate 55, at mile marker 16,8 near Hayti, will be reduced with a 13-foot width restriction while MODOT crews perform pavement repairs.
The work is scheduled to begin on January 11th, and will be completed on January 13th.

HEAVY RAIN AND FREEZING RAIN EXPECTED FOR POPLAR BLUFF THROUGH TOMORROW

LONGTIME POPLAR BLUFF COMMUNITY AND BUSINESS LEADER HARRY BLACKWELL PASSES
Harry Blackwell, a longtime standing community and business leader in Poplar Bluff and Southeast Missouri, has passed away.
Blackwell, born in Doniphan in June of 1942, passed away at a Poplar Bluff hospital on Friday. He was 78 years old at his passing.
He graduated from Naylor High School in 1960, and joined as a member of the Missouri National Guard the same year. He then started a career in the automotive industry in Poplar Bluff, after attending Arkansas State University.
From his career, Blackwell co-founded the Blackwell Baldwin Oldsmobile Cadillac with Roger Baldwin, and went on to found the Harry Blackwell dealership.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian Vandover, alongside his daughters, Amanda Clayman and Lori Amoss, his brother, Rob Blackwell, as well as four grandchildren.
MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL RELEASES WINTER DRIVING ADVISORY
As widespread heavy and freezing rains are expected throughout the week, the Missouri State Highway Patrol has issued a winter driving advisory for local motorists.
The Patrol encourages motorists to check road conditions before driving, and to make sure your vehicle is in good condition. This includes keeping your vehicle clean of ice and snow.
The Highway Patrol recommends traveling at slower speeds, and to allow extra driving time for you to reach your destination at a slow, safe speed. It is also advised to not use your cruise control, and to keep a good distance between your vehicle and other drivers.
You should also keep your phone fully charged and on your person, and to keep your fuel tank at least halfway full. The patrol recommends carrying an ice scraper, tire chains, battery booster cables, blankets, flashlights, and a bag of sand or litter in your trunk.

AUTHORITIES IN BUTLER COUNTY ARREST DEXTER MAN FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF A TEEN
A Dexter man was sentenced to time in confinement earlier in the month on a sexual abuse charge involving a teenager.
According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 35 year old Alejandro Flores-Martinez was sentenced to seven years at the Missouri Department of Corrections on the felony offense of 1st degree sexual abuse.
The charge was issued after Martinez stood trial in August of this year, where the female victim told authorities that she witnessed Martinez following her while she was shopping at a local business in December of 2018.
After observing her for a few minutes, he proceeded to grab and sexually assault her. She was 17 years old at the time of the incident.
The case was taken under advisement following the trial, and Martinez was found guilty as charged in October.
After his sentence at the Department of Corrections is served, Martinez will be deported from the country, and banned from re-entry.
TWO DRIVERS INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN DUNKLIN COUNTY
Two drivers suffered injuries as a result of a vehicle crash in Dunklin County on Tuesday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident was reported around 2:50 pm, at US 412, east of Kennett. The crash occurred when a vehicle pulled into the path of another oncoming car.
The driver of the first vehicle, 33 year old Henry Rankin of Poplar Bluff, was seriously injured, and was flown to a hospital in Tennessee.
The driver of the oncoming vehicle, 58 year old Coy Owens of Kennett, suffered moderate injuries, and was transported to a Hayti hospital for treatment.
POPLAR BLUFF R-1 SCHOOL DISTRICT PURCHASING NEW BUS USING RELIEF FUNDING
The Poplar Bluff R-1 school district will be purchasing a new bus using funding from the coronavirus relief funds.
According to school Superintendent Dr. Scott Dill, the district will be receiving a 14-person bus, using a portion of the $55,300 grant that was received through Governor Mike Parson’s Emergency Education Relief Fund.
The bus will be used as a way to prevent and prepare for a potential influx of coronavirus cases, and is expected to provide a means to alternate routing, and promote social distancing among students.

The Butler County Health Department has released a long term plan for distributing the coronavirus vaccine.
The plan consists of a four step phase, which will see distribution of the vaccine to several groups of people. The first is Phase 1A, which will have the vaccine administered to healthcare workers and long-term care facility staff.
In Phase 1-B, the vaccine will be given to essential workers such as childcare workers and teachers, first-responders, and high risk individuals.
Phase 2 involves administering the vaccine to populations at increased risk, including homeless shelters and prisons.
Afterwards, Phase 3 will see the vaccine administered to all Missouri residents. Ages 16 and older will be given the Pfizer vaccine, while ages 18 and older will be given the Mederna vaccination.

MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL RELEASES RESULTS FROM HOLIDAY COUNTING PERIOD
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released the results from the Christmas counting period.
Superintendent Colonel Eric Olson reported the preliminary statistics, which saw 5 traffic related deaths, 175 traffic crashes, and 55 injuries from crashes. There were also 62 DWI arrests.
These numbers are down from last year's counting period, which reported 3 deaths, 278 crashes, 111 injuries, and 20 DWI arrests.
There were no boating related crashes or drownings reported. The Counting Period ran from 6 pm on December 24th, through 11:59 pm on December 27th.
STODDARD COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATING STRING OF VEHICLE TAMPERING
Authorities with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department are currently investigating a string of vehicle’s that were tampered with last Tuesday.
According to the department, there was a rash of vehicles being tampered with in the area North of Dexter, around County Road 413, on December 22nd. The tampering was reported close to Christian Drive, Pond Lane, and Cedar Hills Drive.
There have been at least three suspects reported in the incident, driving a white or light colored, four doored sedan. The incidents occurred from around 4 to 6 am.

TOTAL CASES OF COVID-19 IN MISSOURI NOW OVER 383,000; CASES CONTINUE TO BE REPORTED ACROSS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
Cases of the coronavirus have continued to be reported across southeast Missouri, while the state total has reached over 383,000.
Officials with the Butler County Health Department reported that 45 new cases were reported from Friday through Monday, and that the County now stands at 3,452 cases.
In Stoddard County, 37 new cases were reported over the weekend, bringing the County’s total to 2,630 cases. Of them, 71 are active, while 2,500 have recovered. There have also been a total of 59 deaths reported from the disease.
Dunklin County now stands at 2,598 cases. Of them, 2,496 have recovered, while 18 are currently active. The County has seen 84 deaths caused by the virus.
In Missouri, as of Monday, there are now 383,616 cases of the virus in the state, while 5,316 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.
MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION REQUESTING VISITORS TO KEEP SITES CLEAN
The Missouri Department of Conservation has issued a request to visitors to keep conservation sites clean and free of trash.
The reminder was issued after an incident on Monday, where conservation management were informed about a ruddy duck that had been entangled in a discarded fishing line, which was wrapped around its wing and neck.
They managed to free the duck, and is using the incident as a reminder to all visitors to keep conservation sites clean, and to properly dispose of any trash or litter.
The department is encouraging visitors to take disposable trash bags, or any container that can hold any trash or waste brought by visitors.
ROADWAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION DURING REPAIRS
A roadway in Dunklin County will be reduced while undergoing repairs.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route 62, from Route OO to the Arkansas State Line, will be reduced to one lane while MODOT Crews perform edge rut repairs and maintenance.
The work will take place today and Wednesday, from 8 am to 4 pm daily.

TWO ARRESTS MADE IN PEMISCOT COUNTY FOR MURDER
There were two men arrested in Pemiscot County on Thursday after they allegedly beat a man to death.
Authorities with the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 26 year old Caleb Holland, of Dyersburg, and 45 year old Sean Kotalik, of Blytheville, were charged with the 1st degree murder of a Blytheville man.
The charges stem from an investigation made after officials in Steele received a call about an ongoing assault at a bar on West Main Street on Thursday.
There, authorities found the 46 year old with severe injuries to the head, which were caused by him being assaulted by Holland and Kotalik.
He was transported to a hospital for treatment, where he died from his injuries.
Both Holland and Kotalik were booked at the Dyer County Jail following the investigation, and were transported to the Pemiscot County Jail pending formal charges.

A man was taken into custody in Butler County on Friday for drug and weapon possession.
According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 35 year old Steven Hall, of New Madrid, was arrested for the felony offenses of unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon.
He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
Hall was transported to the Butler County Jail following his arrest.

STATE OF MISSOURI REACHES HIGHEST COVID-19 HOSPITALIZATIONS
The state of Missouri reached a record number for patients that have been hospitalized due to the coronavirus on Friday.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, the state had a total of 2,862 hospitalizations on Friday. The highest total before it was set on November 18th, which saw 2,851 hospitalizations.
The daily cases of COVID-19 in the state has been measured at 2,213. As cases continue to be reported, health officials are reminding residents to follow coronavirus guidelines, and to prioritize safety and health.
BENTON MAN CHARGED WITH SEVERAL DRUG RELATED CHARGES IN STODDARD COUNTY
A Benton man was arrested in Stoddard County on Thursday on several drug related charges.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 28 year old Jonathan Horton was booked on a Stoddard County warrant for possession of a controlled substance – except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid.
Horton also faces charges for possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Stoddard County Jail.

An unnamed person of interest was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Butler County Jail on unrelated charges, and is pending future charges as the investigation into the shooting continues.

SHIPMENTS OF COVID-19 VACCINE ARRIVING IN BUTLER COUNTY
Butler County will be seeing more shipments of the Moderna coronavirus vaccine.
According to officials with the Butler County Health Department, the first doses of the vaccine were administered to frontline and essential workers in the medical field, and more vaccines are being delivered.
Another shipment of the vaccine will arrive in Butler County today, and will be administered to health care workers who frequently come into close contact with patients.
Officials with the department have put in a request for more vaccines to be delivered next week, though it is too early to know if they will be shipped by then.
POPLAR BLUFF MAN CHARGED WITH MULTIPLE DRUG RELATED CHARGES IN STODDARD COUNTY
A Poplar Bluff man was charged with multiple drug related charges in Stoddard County on Tuesday.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 44 year old Gregory Richie was booked on a Stoddard County warrant for possession of a controlled substance – except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid.
Richie is also facing charges on unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, on a $15,000 bond.
POPLAR BLUFF HOSTING PUBLIC HEARING FOR ROADSIDE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
The city of Poplar Bluff will be hosting a public hearing about a roadside project.
According to the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission, the hearing will be held at the Chamber of Commerce building, and will discuss the city’s submission of an application for the FY2021 MODOT Transportation Alternative Program grant cycle.
The proposed project involves a 2 mile extension to the city trail system, which will connect it to the Wolf Creek Trailhead on County Road 447.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN BUTLER COUNTY ON RESISTING ARREST
A Poplar Bluff man was charged with resisting arrest on Monday in Butler County.
According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 66 year old Keith Hodge was arrested at 2:20 PM on a felony offense of resisting arrest. He also faces felony charges on persistent driving while intoxicated, and multiple vehicle related offenses.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Butler County Jail.
ROADWAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION DURING BRIDGE REPAIRS
A roadway in Pemiscot County will be reduced while bridge repairs are underway.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Northbound Interstate 55, from mile marker 18 to mile marker 20 near Hayti, will be reduced to one lane with a 13-foot width restriction while MODOT crews perform bridge repairs.
The work will take place from Monday, and continue through Friday, January 1st.

AUTHORITIES IN BUTLER COUNTY INVESTIGATING IN CUSTODY DEATH AT COUNTY JUSTICE CENTER
Authorities in Butler County are investigating a death that occurred at the County Justice Center over the weekend.
Few details are available at this time, but Butler County Coroner tells KWOC News that he has confirmed the in custody death of Noah Burke. An autopsy was held on Monday morning.

PARAGOULD MAN ARRESTED IN DUNKLIN COUNTY ON MULTIPLE DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES
A Paragould man was taken into custody in Dunklin County on multiple drug possession charges.
According to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department, 57 year old Rodney Trammell was charged with three felony counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance on methamphetamine, diazepam, and clonazepam.
He was also charged with possession of marijuana.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Dunklin County Jail.
DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY
A driver suffered serious injuries after her vehicle crashed in Stoddard County on Monday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 12:50 PM on Highway J, near Highway WW in Dudley. The vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and slid through the intersection, causing it to strike a sign and roadway marker.
The driver, 54 year old Maria Topps, of Advance, was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.
BUTLER COUNTY MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING EXTENDED POLICE CHASE
A man from Harviell was booked in Butler County on Saturday afternoon following an extended police chase through several counties.
According to officials with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 39 year old Garland Trice Jr. was arrested on resisting arrest by fleeing, failure to yield to emergency vehicles, failure to observe a traffic control device, and careless or impudent driving.
These charges stem from an incident in Butler County, where he was chased by police in Poplar Bluff through three counties.
The incident began at 11:30 pm on Saturday, where Poplar Bluff authorities attempted to stop a truck with expired license plates. The driver, identified as Trice, put the vehicle in drive and sped through Maud Street and Roxie Road, running several stop signs.
He continued through Shelby Road and County Road 465, where he reached speeds up to 70 miles per hour. The chase ensued passed Business 67, where Trice sped past authorities through Ripley County and into Naylor.
Trice was finally apprehended in Clay County, Arkansas, after his vehicle struck a spiked stripper that was set up by authorities. He was taken into custody on Highway N, and was transported to the Butler County Jail.
ARREST MADE IN RIPLEY COUNTY FOR AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
A man was arrested in Ripley County on Friday on an assault charge.
According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, 41 year old Brian Mccollumn, of Oxly, was taken into custody on a felony warrant out of Ripley County for aggravated assault.
He was transported to the Ripley County Jail following his arrest.
TOTAL CASES OF COVID-19 IN MISSOURI NOW OVER 368,000; CASES CONTINUE TO RISE ACROSS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
The total cases of coronavirus in Missouri have risen past 368,000, while cases continue to be reported across southeast Missouri.
According to the Butler County Health Department, 56 new cases of the virus were reported on Monday, bringing the County’s total cases to 3,337. In Stoddard County, 29 cases were reported over the weekend, and the County now stands at 2,566 cases. Of them, 95 are active, while 2,414 have recovered.
Dunklin County now stands at 2,536 cases. Of them, 2,456 have recovered, while 62 are still active.
As of Monday, there are now 368,316 cases of the virus in Missouri, and 4,947 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

Once the vaccine arrives, under the current COVID-19 guidelines, they will be administered to healthcare and essential workers, and will become available to local residents as they become readily available.
Local hospitals are expecting to have shipments of the vaccinations by the end of the week.
Until they arrive, officials are urging residents to remember proper social distancing guidelines, wear face masks, avoid large gatherings, and to limit travel as much as possible.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ORDERED TO TRIAL FOR 2018 MURDER CHARGE;
A trial has been set for a Poplar Bluff man in regards to a 2018 murder charge.
According to officials with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, local resident James Johnson Jr. was charged with the felony charges of armed criminal action and 1st degree murder, in relation to the death of 32 year old Jermaine Johnson.
Johnson’s body was found in May of 2018, in a ditch near County Road 612 in Butler County. He was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso, which reportedly caused his death.
Johnson Jr. appeared in court on Friday, and after filing a waiver to a preliminary hearing, he was ordered to a review of his case on January 12th.
He was previously sentenced to 30 years in federal prison in August for assaulting law enforcement officers.
The assault charge was issued when authorities were attempting to arrest him at his apartment on Kinzer Street on a federal arrest warrant, where he shot Poplar Bluff Detective Corey Mitchell.
In connection to Jermaine Johnson’s death, Shanesha Burns has also been charged with 1st and 2nd degree murder, and will stand trial from July 7th to 9th in Butler County.
POPLAR BLUFF MAN CHARGED ON SEVERAL OFFENSES IN RIPLEY COUNTY
A Poplar Bluff man was arrested on multiple charges in Ripley County on Thursday.
According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, 39 year old Rickey Tropf Jr. was booked on a Butler County felony warrant for stealing, and resisting arrest or interfering with an arrest for a felony.
Tropf was also charged with possession of marijuana.
He was transported to the Ripley County Jail following his arrest.
HOME DESTROYED FOLLOWING STRUCTURE FIRE IN PORTAGEVILLE
A home was destroyed by a structure fire on Sunday in Portageville.
According to the Portageville Fire Department, officials received a call Sunday evening around 7 pm about a structure fire at State Highway KK.
Firefighter crews responded to the scene, where a single story brick home was heavily engulfed from all sides by the time crews arrived.
All occupants were outside of the home at the time of the fire, and authorities were able to put out the last of the flames at 11:30 pm. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
No injuries were reported from the fire, however the home was completely destroyed by the flames.
DONIPHAN MAN ARRESTED IN RIPLEY COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES
A Doniphan man was taken into custody in Ripley County on Friday on a meth charge.
According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, 37 year old Misty Millis was arrested on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
Millis is also facing a charge of possession of marijuana, and several traffic related warrants out of Carter County and Poplar Bluff.
Following his arrest, he was held at the Ripley County Jail.
POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT SEARCHING FOR SUSPECT IN LOCAL THEFT
The Poplar Bluff Police Department is searching for a suspect in a local theft that took place on Friday.
According to the Department, a woman was seen on video surveillance stealing multiple wreaths from a local business around 5 am Friday morning. The video of the theft is available on the Poplar Bluff Police Department’s facebook page.

CARTER COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO TIME IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR STOLEN EQUIPMENT FROM MISSOURI NATIONAL GUARD
A Carter County man was sentenced to time in federal prison for possessing equipment stolen from the Missouri National Guard.
According to the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, Darrel Doss was charged with possessing a homemade silencer, several firearms, and two thermal imagery devices valued at $16,000, that were stolen from the United States Army during his time employed with the Guard.
The charges stem from an investigation made by authorities in November of 2018, where Doss was trespassing on the Peck Ranch Conservation Area. He was found after being identified and stopped by conservation officers with the stolen equipment.
He will be spending six months in federal prison on these charges.
COURTHOUSES IN DUNKLIN AND STODDARD COUNTIES REMAINING IN PHASE ZERO
Courthouses in Dunklin and Stoddard County will remain in phase zero for the rest of December.
According to Presiding Circuit Judge Robert Mayer, the courts, which reverted to operating phase zero on December 2nd, will continue under phase zero due to continuing concerns over the coronavirus.
Under phase zero, all in-person court proceedings will be suspended, with exceptions to proceedings protected under the constitutional rights of criminal defendants, civil cases, and rights to speedy trials and bonds.
The courts will remain under phase zero until the end of the month, and the situation will continue to be monitored so that a decision can be made on future court cases.
DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN RIPLEY COUNTY
A driver suffered severe injuries after her vehicle crashed in Ripley County on Thursday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 9:00 pm on US 160, five miles west of Doniphan. The vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway, before striking an embankment and overturning.
The driver of the vehicle, 31 year old Bobbie Harber, was flown to a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee for treatment.
BLOOD DRIVE BEING HOSTED BY AMERICAN RED CROSS IN POPLAR BLUFF TODAY
There will be an opportunity to donate blood today in Poplar Bluff.
According to officials with the American Red Cross, the drive will be held at the First United Methodist Church, located on 5th and North Main Street, and will be open from 1 to 6 pm. All presenting donors will receive a complimentary shirt for their donations.

ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED THROUGH SOUTHEAST MISSOURI; STATE TOTAL NOW OVER 356,000
Additional cases of the coronavirus have been reported across Southeast Missouri, while the state total has passed 356,000.
According to the Butler County Health Department, 2 new cases were reported on Thursday, bringing the County’s total to 3,255 cases. Another death was contributed to the virus in the County, making it the 32nd death in the County.
Stoddard County reported 12 new cases on Thursday, and now stands at a total of 2,516 cases. Of them, 121 are active, and 2,339 have recovered. Dunklin County now stands at 2,372 cases. Of them, 2,372 have recovered, and 65 are still active.
In Missouri, as of Thursday, there are now 356,607 cases of the virus in the state, while 4,834 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

MEMPHIS MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY ON HOMICIDE
A Memphis man was arrested in Pemiscot County on Wednesday on a homicide charge.
According to the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department, 27 year old Keshon Ford was charged on a felony warrant out of Memphis, Tennessee, for homicide. He was also charged with several vehicle related offenses.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Pemiscot County Jail, with no bond.

RIPLEY COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO TIME IN FEDERAL PRISON ON METH RELATED CHARGES
A Ripley County man was sentenced to time in federal prison for methamphetamine related charges.
According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, Robert Widding was charged with two counts of possession of over 50 grams of methamphetamine, as well as intent to distribute.
These charges stem from an investigation made by authorities in Ripley County in December of 2019, where Widley admitted to having methamphetamine on his person during a traffic stop. Another stop was performed on Widding in February of 2020, where it was found that the vehicle driven by him was stolen in January.
During this stop, authorities found a total of 87 grams of methamphetamine inside the stolen vehicle, and Widding admitted during an interview that he knew the substance was meth.
Widding will be spending eight years in federal prison on these charges.
LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT UTILIZES SCHOOL BUSES FOR EFFECTIVE DISTANT LEARNING
A local school district has begun using school buses for effective distant learning.
According to officials with the Delta R-5 school district, the school has equipped their school buses with Wi-Fi equipment, which will give students an opportunity to finish their work away from school.
The district spent about $8,000 total for the equipment and installation, and students will now have access to the internet at all times throughout the day. As time passes, more implementations for student safety are expected.
POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT SEARCHING FOR MISSING SUSPECT
The Poplar Bluff Police Department is currently searching for a wanted suspect.
Few details are available at this time, however according to the department, on November 28th, a vehicle was seen leaving the scene of an active crime at 838 West Pine Street. A picture of the vehicle is available at the Poplar Bluff Police Department’s Facebook page.

PSYCHIATRIC EXAMINATION ORDERED FOR BERNIE MAN ACCUSED OF ABANDONING BODY
A man from Bernie will be undergoing a psychiatric examination, to see if he is able to be charged with abandoning a corpse.
According to officials with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 51 year old Corey Gill will be receiving a pre-trial psychiatric exam, in order to see if he can be charged with the felony offense of abandonment of a corpse.
The charge stems from an incident in November of 2018, where Gill was accused of taking the body of 38 year old Holly Kirkman, who had been reported missing earlier that month, and moving it to 510 Walter Avenue. Her body was located inside the trunk of her own vehicle. The details of her death have been kept confidential.
This will be the second mental examination performed on Gill in this case. The first exam was performed in December of 2018, where it was found that he was incompetent to proceed what he had done.
If he is not found guilty by reason of insanity, then he will remain with the Department of Mental Health until a release is ordered.
ANNUAL BIRD COUNT NUMBERS RECORDED IN POPLAR BLUFF
The annual bird count around Poplar Bluff was held on Tuesday, where several types of bird life were present.
The survey covered about 180 square miles of enclosed environment, and teams were spread out between a 15 mile diameter, centered around Poplar Bluff.
Some of the wildlife observed included Canadian Geese, a lesser scaup, a ruddy duck, and a ringneck. A total of 67 species was observed during the counting period.
Two more bird counts will be held in Southeast Missouri. The first will be hosted at the Big Oak Tree State Park near East Prairie today, while the second will be performed on Friday, in the Big Spring of Van Buren.

QULIN WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER LEAVING THE SCENE OF A FATAL CRASH
A Qulin woman was arrested after leaving the scene of a crash, which resulted in the death of a Wappapello woman.
Officials with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department report that 40 year old Misty Stark was taken into custody for leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in a death, as well as causing a crash that resulted in a death.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident happened on Highway 51, south of Broseley, where 29 year old Chelsie Fortner was struck by a vehicle driven by Stark while she was walking along the roadway. She was rushed to a Poplar Bluff hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Stark is currently being held at the Butler County Jail on these charges.

MARSHALL MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON ASSAULT AND WEAPON OFFENSES
A Marshall man was arrested in New Madrid County on Tuesday for assault and illegal weapon use.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 54 year old Timothy Gibson was charged with felony 1st degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.
He is currently being held at the New Madrid County Jail, with no bond.
LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS PARTICIPATING IN FOOD DRIVES
Several elementary schools in Butler County will be participating in a food donation drive.
According to officials with the school districts, students of the Oak Grove, Neelyville, and Hillview elementary schools will be collecting nonperishable food today for donations to local charity organizations.
The donations began early December, and will be used to benefit the Neelyville Food Pantry, as well as food drives hosted by local businesses.

BUTLER COUNTY OFFICIALS STILL SEARCHING FOR SUSPECT IN HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION
Authorities are still searching for a suspect in a homicide investigation in Poplar Bluff.
On December 1st, authorities responded to a call about a shooting at a residence in the 100 block of Begley Street at approximately 10:30 am on. When officers arrived at the scene, 23 year old Kevin Sanders and 23 year old Adriana Lundy, both of Poplar Bluff, were found with gunshot wounds.
They were both transported to a local health care facility after they were found. Lundy’s injuries were classified as serious, but not life threatening, while Sanders succumbed to his injuries while under care.
Two suspects were identified in the shooting. The first, 22 year old Christopher Gilmore, of Poplar Bluff, was taken into custody for 2nd degree murder, 1st degree assault, armed criminal action, and 1st degree robbery and burglary.
The second suspect, 25 year old Stacy Gipson, of Poplar Bluff, is still being searched for. If you know his whereabouts, or any information on him, you are asked to contact the Poplar Bluff Police Department at 573-785-5776.

THREE INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY
A driver was seriously hurt, and two others suffered injuries as a result of a vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Tuesday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash took place at 1:20 pm Wednesday afternoon, on Westbound US 60, at the Route N road. The crash occurred when a vehicle collided with another oncoming car, after failing to yield.
The driver of the struck vehicle, 35 year old Melissa Hollowell, of St. Louis, was seriously injured from the crash. 30 year old occupant Brandon Blagg suffered moderate injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle, 74 year old David Hanners, of Commerce, also received moderate injuries from the incident. They were all transported to a hospital in Cape Girardeau for treatment.
ROADWAY IN RIPLEY COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION FOR REPAIRS
A roadway in Ripley County will be reduced while repairs are underway.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route 21, between County Road 21-3 and County Road A- 2A, will be reduced to one lane while MODOT crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway.
The work will take place on Thursday, from 8 am to 2 pm.
KENNETT POLICE DEPARTMENT HONORING FORMER POLICE CHIEF WITH BLOOD DRIVE
A blood drive is being held in Kennett, in honor of a former police chief.
According to the Kennett Police Department, the blood drive is being held in memory of former Assistant Police Chief Rick Groves, who spent 35 years in his position. He passed away on October 16th from COVID-19.

ARREST MADE IN CARTER COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION
A Van Buren man was arrested in Carter County on methamphetamine possession on Monday.
According to the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, 29 year old Wilson Grubb was taken into custody on possession of methamphetamine, as well as possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Carter County Jail.
MISSOURI RECEIVES FIRST SHIPMENT OF COVID-19 VACCINATIONS
The state of Missouri has received its first shipment of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccination.
The vaccine is applied twice in a three week period, and this shipment will be used to vaccinate the state’s healthcare and essential workers. More shipments will be arriving in the coming months, and will be distributed under Missouri’s vaccination plan.
The plan states that the next shipment of vaccines will be available to Missouri residents, and once it is readily available, will become available to anyone living in the state.
TOTAL CASES OF COVID-19 IN MISSOURI NOW OVER 347,000; CASES ACROSS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI CONTINUE TO RISE
Reports of coronavirus cases throughout southeast Missouri have continued to rise, while the state total is now over 347,000 cases.
According to the Butler County Health Department, 183 new cases were reported on Monday, which is the highest daily total of the virus since the pandemic began. The County now stands at 3,124 cases, while six additional deaths have been linked to the disease, bringing the County’s total deaths to 31.
Stoddard County confirmed 55 new cases over the weekend, bringing the County’s total cases to 2,467. Of them, 130 are active, while 2,282 have recovered. Dunklin County now stands at 2,407 cases. Of them, 2,292 have recovered, and 97 are still active.
In Missouri, as of Monday, there are now 347,603 cases of the virus in the state, while 4,514 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.
BLOOMFIELD MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON BURGLARY CHARGE
A man was taken into custody in Stoddard County on Monday on a burglary charge.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 54 year old Danny Hayes, of Bloomfield, was booked on a warrant out of Stoddard County for 1st degree burglary.
He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, with no bond.
ROADWAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY SLATED FOR REDUCTION DURING REPAIRS
A roadway in Pemiscot County will be reduced while bridge repairs are underway.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Northbound Interstate 55, from mile marker 18 to mile marker 20, will be reduced to one lane while MODOT crews perform bridge repairs.
The work will start on December 28th, and continue through January 7th.

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK AND KILLED BY A VEHICLE NEAR BROSELEY
A pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle near Broseley.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at around midnight Sunday morning on Highway 51, in Butler County.
Officials say a vehicle was traveling southbound and struck 29 year old Chelsie Fortner, of Wappapello, who was in the roadway.
Fortner was transported to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

MISSISSIPPI MAN STANDING TRIAL ON MURDER CHARGE
A Mississippi man will be standing trial after being charged with murder.
Officials with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 28 year old Terry Brown was charged with 2nd degree murder, as well as armed criminal action, after being accused of killing 50 year old Virgil Brown II in May.
The charges stem from an investigation made by the Poplar Bluff Police Department, after authorities received a call of a fight in progress at a house in the 1000 block of Grand Avenue on May 7th.
The older Brown was found by authorities laying on the floor of the home, and was bleeding from a knife wound in the chest.
The younger Brown was found by authorities shortly after the call was made, and has a court case set for January 5th.
BUTLER COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT HOSTING COVID-19 TESTING SITE TODAY
The Butler County Health Department will be hosting a free coronavirus testing site today.
According to the Department, they will be hosting a first come, first serve COVID-19 testing event to anyone who is interested. Tests will be done through a nasal swab, and participants will stay in their vehicles for a drive through test.
They will be available and free to all Missouri residents. You do not need an appointment to be tested.
The tests will be performed at Whitley Park in Poplar Bluff, at the Intersection of Highway 53 and 142, from 9 am to 3 pm.
MISSOURI TO SEE COVID-19 VACCINATIONS IN COMING MONTHS
The State of Missouri is expected to see its first few shipments of an official coronavirus vaccination in the coming months.
According to Missouri Health Director Randal Williams, the vaccine will arrive in limited quantities, but is expected to be readily available to state residents by mid-April.
The first shipment will have around 150,000 of the Pfizer vaccinations, and will begin arriving in a three Phase program.
Phase 1 will distribute the doses to healthcare and essential workers, as well as people in high-risk areas. Phase 2 will include all Missouri residents, and Phase 3 will add anyone who lives in Missouri.
FAULTY ELECTRIC LINE CAUSES HOUSE FIRE IN POPLAR BLUFF
A faulty electrical line reportedly caused a house fire on Friday in Poplar Bluff.
According to the Poplar Bluff Fire Department, officials received a call Friday afternoon about a local home being on fire.
Crews with the City’s three fire stations responded to the scene, and were able to get the fire under control after a short time.
There was extensive damage to the attic, and spread throughout the roof and rooms of the building.
The department believes that the fire was started by a faulty electrical line in the attic.
No injuries were reported from the fire.
DUDLEY MAN CHARGED ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES IN STODDARD COUNTY
A Dudley man has been taken into custody in Stoddard County on drug possession charges.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 21 year old Jimie Moore was taken into custody Thursday evening on possession of marijuana, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.
Authorities say he was also charged with driving while under the influence of drugs.
He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest.

According to the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, 52 year old Jimmie Jimenez, of Reagan Tennessee, was charged on the felony offense of unlawful use of a weapon, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Carter County Jail.
MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL URGES CAUTION FOR ICY WATERS
As winter sets in and the temperature steadily drops, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is urging residents to beware of icy waters.
Though it is expected to get cold enough for ice to form on ponds and lakes, it doesn’t guarantee that the ice will hold if someone walks or skates on it. Winter temperatures are expected to fluctuate enough that extra caution should be advised.
The Patrol recommends avoiding walking on icy water when possible, and to have an object such as a rope or life preserver in the event of someone falling through the ice.
VAN BUREN HOSTING PARADE OF LIGHTS EVENT THIS WEEKEND
The City of Van Buren will be hosting a Parade of Lights event this Saturday.
The parade will be hosted at several locations throughout the city, and individuals can register a float to the event by lining up with their float before it begins. Prizes will be available for all float winners.
There will also be a Side by Side Cookie Crawl, which offers a top prize of new light whips, and $50. Line up for the parade will be from 4:30 to 5:30 pm, and the Parade will start at 6 pm.
GREENVILLE MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN BUTLER COUNTY ON MULTIPLE FELONY POSSESSION CHARGES
A Greenville man was arrested in Butler County on Thursday on various felony possession charges.
According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 23 year old Wallace Hutchinson was taken into custody around 7:50 pm for the felony offenses of unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was transported to the Butler County Jail following his arrest.
TOTAL CASES OF COVID-19 IN MISSOURI NOW OVER 334,000
Cases of the coronavirus have continued to be reported across Southeast Missouri.
According to the Butler County Health Department, 14 new cases were reported on Thursday, bringing the County’s total cases to 2,917. In Stoddard County, 24 new cases were reported, and the County now stands at 2,389 cases. Of them, 141 are active, and 2,194 have recovered.
Dunklin County has reported a total of 2,368 cases of the virus. Of them, 2,255 have recovered, while 95 are active.
In Missouri, the total cases now stands at 334,704, while 4,450 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

TWO DEATHS REPORTED BY PORTAGEVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Portageville Fire Department has reported two fatalities in Portageville.
Few details are available, however officials with the department report that firefighter crews were dispatched to a residence within city limits on a report of two unresponsive individuals inside the residence on Wednesday. When crews arrived, the two victims were both found deceased.
After investigating the scene, the department believes the cause of death was due to carbon monoxide poisoning. A further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
The details of the victims are being kept confidential out of respect for the family’s privacy.

POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN FACING TIME IN PRISON ON 2017 MURDER CHARGE
A local woman will be spending time in prison after being sentenced on a 2017 murder charge on Wednesday.
According to officials with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 45 year old Tara Maxfield was charged with 2nd degree murder, after she admitted to causing the fire that killed 57 year old Tommy Younger.
The charge stems from an investigation made by Poplar Bluff authorities in June of 2017, where firefighter crews responded to a house fire at 712 Poplar Street. There, Younger was found unconscious inside the first floor apartment. He was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital after being rescued, where he succumbed to his injuries.
In Maxfield’s interview, she admitted to starting the fire, after she assaulted four other residents of the apartment building. Reports state she set a blanket on fire, and used it to spread the flames to the front of the residence.
She was sentenced to 20 years in prison on these charges.
ARREST MADE IN CARTER COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES
An arrest was made in Carter County on Wednesday on drug possession charges.
According to the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, 28 year old Joseph Neely, of Finger Tennessee, was taken into custody on felony possession of methamphetamine, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Carter County Jail.
BUTLER COUNTY NOW AMONG HIGHEST IN COVID-19 RATE CASES
Butler County has recently been categorized as one of the highest County’s in coronavirus rate cases.
The rate of cases for COVID-19 is measured by seven day average case growths, as well as cases per week and percentages of positive test results. Currently, Missouri sees an average of 22,000 new cases of the coronavirus weekly, and Butler County stands as the 12th highest County for cases of the virus.
Todd Richardson, director of Missouri Healthnet, is urging residents of the County to keep social distancing and proper mask usage as cases of the coronavirus steadily increase in Butler County.
According to the Butler County Health Department, the County currently has 2,903 total cases of the virus. Of them, 2,662 are out of isolation, while 241 are still active. A total of 25 deaths in the County have been caused by the virus.
PIEDMONT WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN WAYNE COUNTY ON ASSAULT AND DRUG CHARGES
A woman from Piedmont was charged with assault and drug charges on Wednesday.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 34 year old Lesa Ellis was arrested on two felony charges of 3rd degree assault on law enforcement, as well as resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
She was transported to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office following her arrest.
DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY
A driver was injured following a vehicle crash in Butler County on Wednesday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Route W, north of Poplar Bluff, where a vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned.
The elderly driver suffered moderate injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

MAN CHARGED ON DRUG AND ENDANGERMENT OFFENSES IN NEW MADRID COUNTY
A man was arrested in New Madrid County on Tuesday after being charged with drug possession and child endangerment.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 42 year old Jonathan Coburn, of Deleon Springs Florida, was arrested on a felony charge of delivery of a controlled substance – marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and the felony offense of 2nd degree child welfare endangerment.
After being charged and filed, he was released roadside.
ROADWAY IN RIPLEY COUNTY SCHEDULED TO CLOSE FOR REPAIRS
A roadway in Ripley County will be closing while undergoing repairs.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route K, 2 miles south of the Route B junction, will be closed while MODOT crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway.
The work will take place today, from 8 am to 2 pm.
POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY PRODUCTION
A Poplar Bluff woman will be spending 20 years in federal prison after being charged on child pornography production.
Officials with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that Amber Longhibler was sentenced to 240 months in prison, on the felony charge of sexual exploitation of a minor through the production of child pornography.
The charge comes from an investigation made into her and her codefendant, Brandon Hopper, where it was found that the two had been exchanging pornographic material depicting a minor through their cell phones.
At her interview, Longhibler admitted to taking several photographs of the minor, as well as using her phone to send the pictures to Hopper.
Hopper previously pleaded guilty to the felony offense of sexual exploitation of a minor, and has a sentencing set for January 20th. He faces a minimum of 15 years in prison.
WOMAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON METH POSSESSION
A woman was charged with several drug possession offenses in Wayne County on Monday.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 29 year old Charity Allen, of Silva, was taken into custody on a felony offense on possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, as well as possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following her arrest, she was transported to the Wayne County Jail.
POPLAR BLUFF R-1 MAKES PLANS FOR SAFE ROOM AT LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Plans are currently underway to implement a safe room at the Lake Road Elementary School in Poplar Bluff.
According to the Poplar Bluff R-1 School Board, the plan is currently in its first phase, which is to put out an application for a grant for the FEMA safe room at the elementary school. The room itself would cost around $920,000, and be about 3,500 square feet in size.
Superintendent Dr. Scott Dill is also making plans for ushering a new library and media center at the school, though a decision has yet to be made.

POPLAR BLUFF COUNCIL SCHEDULED TO REVIEW POTENTIAL FACE MASK MANDATE
Poplar Bluff City Council members will be looking over a potential, city-wide face mask requirement due to concerns over COVID-19.
Dr. Doland Piland, a Poplar Bluff physician and 30 year hospital official, came to the council on Monday, bringing his concerns over the virus, and the potential it still has to harm the city and its residents.
In his presentation to the Council, Piland stated that the virus has left the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center at full capacity for three months, forcing them to seek hospitalization at areas further away from Missouri. He also referenced that 29 states are already mandating face-masks, as well as 19 community governments in Missouri.
Piland went on to announce that many communities are suffering financially from equipment and staffing costs, and that the number of coronavirus related hospitalizations, deaths, and cases, have only increased as time passes.
According to Piland, while face masks aren’t a perfect solution, they have been shown to minimize the spread of the virus, helped lower cases of the virus in school districts, and have aided New York City in reducing coronavirus cases when the stay at home order proved ineffective.

BUTLER COUNTY NOW CLASSIFIED AS AN EXTREME RISK COUNTY FROM COVID-19
Butler County is now classified as an extreme risk area for COVID-19.
According to the criteria of the recent public health warning released by state health officials, as of Monday, Butler County is now under category one of the coronavirus safety plan. This means that the County is above a 15% positivity rate, and over 350 cases have been confirmed per 100,000 tests performed.
Under the extreme risk category, face masks are strongly advised in all offices and businesses where social distancing is not possible, social groups should be kept to 10 people or less, and anyone exposed to COVID-19 should quarantine for a minimum of 14 days, regardless of a positive or negative test result.
MAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON MULTIPLE DRUG RELATED CHARGES
A man was taken into custody in Wayne County on Monday on multiple drug related charges.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 39 year old Jimmy Nunnery, of Patterson, was charged on felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, as well as a possession count of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
CASES OF COVID-19 INCREASE THROUGHOUT SOUTHEAST MISSOURI; STATE TOTAL NEARING 325,000
Cases of the coronavirus across southeast Missouri have continued to increase, while the state is nearing 325,000 total cases of the disease.
According to the Butler County Health Department, 52 new cases of the virus were confirmed on Monday, bringing the County’s total cases to 2,816. Three deaths were also reported from the disease, with the County now standing at 24 deaths from COVID-19.
In Stoddard County, 52 new cases were reported over the weekend, bringing the County’s total cases to 2,329. Of them, 163 are active, while 2,114 have recovered. The County has also reported a total of 52 deaths caused by the coronavirus.
Dunklin County now stands at 2,290 cases. Of them, 2,169 have recovered, and 103 are currently active.
In Missouri, as of Monday, there are now 324,956 cases of the virus in the state, while 4,194 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.
POPLAR BLUFF MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON MULTIPLE FELONY WARRANTS IN STODDARD COUNTY
A Poplar Bluff resident was arrested on several felony warrants in Stoddard County on Monday.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 31 year old David Fletcher was booked on three felony warrants out of Butler County for receiving stolen property and two counts of stealing, as well as a felony warrant out of Carter County for stealing. He was also charged with the felony offense of resisting arrest.
The total amount stolen by Fletcher is over $25,000.
He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, on a $65,000 cash or surety bond.
INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY
Injuries were reported after a vehicle crashed in Stoddard County on Monday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened when a vehicle failed to negotiate a curve on Route ZZ, south of Dudley, causing it to travel off the south side of the roadway.
An elderly occupant of the vehicle suffered minor injuries from the incident, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.
ROADWAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY TO CLOSE FOR MAINTENANCE
A roadway in Dunklin County will be closing while undergoing maintenance.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route B, between Route BB and County Road 332, will be closed while MODOT crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway.
The work will take place today and Wednesday, from 8 am to 3 pm daily.
