QULIN WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER LEAVING THE SCENE OF A FATAL CRASH
A Qulin woman was arrested after leaving the scene of a crash, which resulted in the death of a Wappapello woman.
Officials with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department report that 40 year old Misty Stark was taken into custody for leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in a death, as well as causing a crash that resulted in a death.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident happened on Highway 51, south of Broseley, where 29 year old Chelsie Fortner was struck by a vehicle driven by Stark while she was walking along the roadway. She was rushed to a Poplar Bluff hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Stark is currently being held at the Butler County Jail on these charges.

MARSHALL MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON ASSAULT AND WEAPON OFFENSES
A Marshall man was arrested in New Madrid County on Tuesday for assault and illegal weapon use.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 54 year old Timothy Gibson was charged with felony 1st degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.
He is currently being held at the New Madrid County Jail, with no bond.
LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS PARTICIPATING IN FOOD DRIVES
Several elementary schools in Butler County will be participating in a food donation drive.
According to officials with the school districts, students of the Oak Grove, Neelyville, and Hillview elementary schools will be collecting nonperishable food today for donations to local charity organizations.
The donations began early December, and will be used to benefit the Neelyville Food Pantry, as well as food drives hosted by local businesses.
If you want to donate food items today, you can bring your donations to the school’s office of your choosing.
BUTLER COUNTY OFFICIALS STILL SEARCHING FOR SUSPECT IN HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION
Authorities are still searching for a suspect in a homicide investigation in Poplar Bluff.
On December 1st, authorities responded to a call about a shooting at a residence in the 100 block of Begley Street at approximately 10:30 am on. When officers arrived at the scene, 23 year old Kevin Sanders and 23 year old Adriana Lundy, both of Poplar Bluff, were found with gunshot wounds.
They were both transported to a local health care facility after they were found. Lundy’s injuries were classified as serious, but not life threatening, while Sanders succumbed to his injuries while under care.
Two suspects were identified in the shooting. The first, 22 year old Christopher Gilmore, of Poplar Bluff, was taken into custody for 2nd degree murder, 1st degree assault, armed criminal action, and 1st degree robbery and burglary.
The second suspect, 25 year old Stacy Gipson, of Poplar Bluff, is still being searched for. If you know his whereabouts, or any information on him, you are asked to contact the Poplar Bluff Police Department at 573-785-5776.
He is considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached if seen.
THREE INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY
A driver was seriously hurt, and two others suffered injuries as a result of a vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Tuesday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash took place at 1:20 pm Wednesday afternoon, on Westbound US 60, at the Route N road. The crash occurred when a vehicle collided with another oncoming car, after failing to yield.
The driver of the struck vehicle, 35 year old Melissa Hollowell, of St. Louis, was seriously injured from the crash. 30 year old occupant Brandon Blagg suffered moderate injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle, 74 year old David Hanners, of Commerce, also received moderate injuries from the incident. They were all transported to a hospital in Cape Girardeau for treatment.
ROADWAY IN RIPLEY COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION FOR REPAIRS
A roadway in Ripley County will be reduced while repairs are underway.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route 21, between County Road 21-3 and County Road A- 2A, will be reduced to one lane while MODOT crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway.
The work will take place on Thursday, from 8 am to 2 pm.
KENNETT POLICE DEPARTMENT HONORING FORMER POLICE CHIEF WITH BLOOD DRIVE
A blood drive is being held in Kennett, in honor of a former police chief.
According to the Kennett Police Department, the blood drive is being held in memory of former Assistant Police Chief Rick Groves, who spent 35 years in his position. He passed away on October 16th from COVID-19.
The drive will be held at the American Legion Post 66, on 1615 First Street in Kennett. The event starts Monday, December 21st, from 1 to 6 pm. To schedule an appointment, visit RedCrossBlood.Org.

ARREST MADE IN CARTER COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION
A Van Buren man was arrested in Carter County on methamphetamine possession on Monday.
According to the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, 29 year old Wilson Grubb was taken into custody on possession of methamphetamine, as well as possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Carter County Jail.
MISSOURI RECEIVES FIRST SHIPMENT OF COVID-19 VACCINATIONS
The state of Missouri has received its first shipment of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccination.
The vaccine is applied twice in a three week period, and this shipment will be used to vaccinate the state’s healthcare and essential workers. More shipments will be arriving in the coming months, and will be distributed under Missouri’s vaccination plan.
The plan states that the next shipment of vaccines will be available to Missouri residents, and once it is readily available, will become available to anyone living in the state.
TOTAL CASES OF COVID-19 IN MISSOURI NOW OVER 347,000; CASES ACROSS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI CONTINUE TO RISE
Reports of coronavirus cases throughout southeast Missouri have continued to rise, while the state total is now over 347,000 cases.
According to the Butler County Health Department, 183 new cases were reported on Monday, which is the highest daily total of the virus since the pandemic began. The County now stands at 3,124 cases, while six additional deaths have been linked to the disease, bringing the County’s total deaths to 31.
Stoddard County confirmed 55 new cases over the weekend, bringing the County’s total cases to 2,467. Of them, 130 are active, while 2,282 have recovered. Dunklin County now stands at 2,407 cases. Of them, 2,292 have recovered, and 97 are still active.
In Missouri, as of Monday, there are now 347,603 cases of the virus in the state, while 4,514 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.
BLOOMFIELD MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON BURGLARY CHARGE
A man was taken into custody in Stoddard County on Monday on a burglary charge.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 54 year old Danny Hayes, of Bloomfield, was booked on a warrant out of Stoddard County for 1st degree burglary.
He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, with no bond.
ROADWAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY SLATED FOR REDUCTION DURING REPAIRS
A roadway in Pemiscot County will be reduced while bridge repairs are underway.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Northbound Interstate 55, from mile marker 18 to mile marker 20, will be reduced to one lane while MODOT crews perform bridge repairs.
The work will start on December 28th, and continue through January 7th.

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK AND KILLED BY A VEHICLE NEAR BROSELEY
A pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle near Broseley.

MISSISSIPPI MAN STANDING TRIAL ON MURDER CHARGE
A Mississippi man will be standing trial after being charged with murder.
Officials with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that 28 year old Terry Brown was charged with 2nd degree murder, as well as armed criminal action, after being accused of killing 50 year old Virgil Brown II in May.
The charges stem from an investigation made by the Poplar Bluff Police Department, after authorities received a call of a fight in progress at a house in the 1000 block of Grand Avenue on May 7th.
The older Brown was found by authorities laying on the floor of the home, and was bleeding from a knife wound in the chest.
The younger Brown was found by authorities shortly after the call was made, and has a court case set for January 5th.
BUTLER COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT HOSTING COVID-19 TESTING SITE TODAY
The Butler County Health Department will be hosting a free coronavirus testing site today.
According to the Department, they will be hosting a first come, first serve COVID-19 testing event to anyone who is interested. Tests will be done through a nasal swab, and participants will stay in their vehicles for a drive through test.
They will be available and free to all Missouri residents. You do not need an appointment to be tested.
The tests will be performed at Whitley Park in Poplar Bluff, at the Intersection of Highway 53 and 142, from 9 am to 3 pm.
MISSOURI TO SEE COVID-19 VACCINATIONS IN COMING MONTHS
The State of Missouri is expected to see its first few shipments of an official coronavirus vaccination in the coming months.
According to Missouri Health Director Randal Williams, the vaccine will arrive in limited quantities, but is expected to be readily available to state residents by mid-April.
The first shipment will have around 150,000 of the Pfizer vaccinations, and will begin arriving in a three Phase program.
Phase 1 will distribute the doses to healthcare and essential workers, as well as people in high-risk areas. Phase 2 will include all Missouri residents, and Phase 3 will add anyone who lives in Missouri.
FAULTY ELECTRIC LINE CAUSES HOUSE FIRE IN POPLAR BLUFF
A faulty electrical line reportedly caused a house fire on Friday in Poplar Bluff.
According to the Poplar Bluff Fire Department, officials received a call Friday afternoon about a local home being on fire.
Crews with the City’s three fire stations responded to the scene, and were able to get the fire under control after a short time.
There was extensive damage to the attic, and spread throughout the roof and rooms of the building.
The department believes that the fire was started by a faulty electrical line in the attic.
No injuries were reported from the fire.
DUDLEY MAN CHARGED ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES IN STODDARD COUNTY
A Dudley man has been taken into custody in Stoddard County on drug possession charges.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 21 year old Jimie Moore was taken into custody Thursday evening on possession of marijuana, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.
Authorities say he was also charged with driving while under the influence of drugs.
He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest.

IN-PERSON COURT CASES IN STODDARD AND DUNKLIN COUNTIES SUSPENDED DUE TO COVID-19
Courts in Stoddard and Dunklin Counties will be suspending all in-person cases due to a surge in coronavirus cases.
Presiding Circuit Judge Robert Mayer made the decision last week to lower operating phases in the 35th Judicial Circuit from phase one to zero, which suspends all in-person court cases.
The courts will remain in operating phase zero until December 17th, and the situation will be reviewed by court officials when the order expires.

MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL URGES CAUTION FOR ICY WATERS
As winter sets in and the temperature steadily drops, the Missouri State Highway Patrol is urging residents to beware of icy waters.
Though it is expected to get cold enough for ice to form on ponds and lakes, it doesn’t guarantee that the ice will hold if someone walks or skates on it. Winter temperatures are expected to fluctuate enough that extra caution should be advised.
The Patrol recommends avoiding walking on icy water when possible, and to have an object such as a rope or life preserver in the event of someone falling through the ice.
VAN BUREN HOSTING PARADE OF LIGHTS EVENT THIS WEEKEND
The City of Van Buren will be hosting a Parade of Lights event this Saturday.
The parade will be hosted at several locations throughout the city, and individuals can register a float to the event by lining up with their float before it begins. Prizes will be available for all float winners.
There will also be a Side by Side Cookie Crawl, which offers a top prize of new light whips, and $50. Line up for the parade will be from 4:30 to 5:30 pm, and the Parade will start at 6 pm.
GREENVILLE MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN BUTLER COUNTY ON MULTIPLE FELONY POSSESSION CHARGES
A Greenville man was arrested in Butler County on Thursday on various felony possession charges.
According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 23 year old Wallace Hutchinson was taken into custody around 7:50 pm for the felony offenses of unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was transported to the Butler County Jail following his arrest.
TOTAL CASES OF COVID-19 IN MISSOURI NOW OVER 334,000
Cases of the coronavirus have continued to be reported across Southeast Missouri.
According to the Butler County Health Department, 14 new cases were reported on Thursday, bringing the County’s total cases to 2,917. In Stoddard County, 24 new cases were reported, and the County now stands at 2,389 cases. Of them, 141 are active, and 2,194 have recovered.
Dunklin County has reported a total of 2,368 cases of the virus. Of them, 2,255 have recovered, while 95 are active.
In Missouri, the total cases now stands at 334,704, while 4,450 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

TWO DEATHS REPORTED BY PORTAGEVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Portageville Fire Department has reported two fatalities in Portageville.
Few details are available, however officials with the department report that firefighter crews were dispatched to a residence within city limits on a report of two unresponsive individuals inside the residence on Wednesday. When crews arrived, the two victims were both found deceased.
After investigating the scene, the department believes the cause of death was due to carbon monoxide poisoning. A further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
The details of the victims are being kept confidential out of respect for the family’s privacy.

POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN FACING TIME IN PRISON ON 2017 MURDER CHARGE
A local woman will be spending time in prison after being sentenced on a 2017 murder charge on Wednesday.
According to officials with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 45 year old Tara Maxfield was charged with 2nd degree murder, after she admitted to causing the fire that killed 57 year old Tommy Younger.
The charge stems from an investigation made by Poplar Bluff authorities in June of 2017, where firefighter crews responded to a house fire at 712 Poplar Street. There, Younger was found unconscious inside the first floor apartment. He was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital after being rescued, where he succumbed to his injuries.
In Maxfield’s interview, she admitted to starting the fire, after she assaulted four other residents of the apartment building. Reports state she set a blanket on fire, and used it to spread the flames to the front of the residence.
She was sentenced to 20 years in prison on these charges.
ARREST MADE IN CARTER COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES
An arrest was made in Carter County on Wednesday on drug possession charges.
According to the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, 28 year old Joseph Neely, of Finger Tennessee, was taken into custody on felony possession of methamphetamine, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Carter County Jail.
BUTLER COUNTY NOW AMONG HIGHEST IN COVID-19 RATE CASES
Butler County has recently been categorized as one of the highest County’s in coronavirus rate cases.
The rate of cases for COVID-19 is measured by seven day average case growths, as well as cases per week and percentages of positive test results. Currently, Missouri sees an average of 22,000 new cases of the coronavirus weekly, and Butler County stands as the 12th highest County for cases of the virus.
Todd Richardson, director of Missouri Healthnet, is urging residents of the County to keep social distancing and proper mask usage as cases of the coronavirus steadily increase in Butler County.
According to the Butler County Health Department, the County currently has 2,903 total cases of the virus. Of them, 2,662 are out of isolation, while 241 are still active. A total of 25 deaths in the County have been caused by the virus.
PIEDMONT WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN WAYNE COUNTY ON ASSAULT AND DRUG CHARGES
A woman from Piedmont was charged with assault and drug charges on Wednesday.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 34 year old Lesa Ellis was arrested on two felony charges of 3rd degree assault on law enforcement, as well as resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
She was transported to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office following her arrest.
DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY
A driver was injured following a vehicle crash in Butler County on Wednesday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Route W, north of Poplar Bluff, where a vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned.
The elderly driver suffered moderate injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

The ballot will be for the filing for council seats in Wards 2 and 4, which are currently held by Ed DeGaris and Shane Cornman, respectively. Candidates for city council must be 21 years old, must be a qualified voter, and have to have lived in the ward for one year.
Applications can be sent to the Poplar Bluff City Hall at 501 Vine Street, from 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Filing for the positions will open on December 15th, and continue through January 19th.
The ballot will also include an online tax proposition, which will affect online purchases from out of state. The tax, which is expected to generate between $300k to $350k revenue for the city, has previously failed to be implemented four times, due to voters voting against the tax.

MAN CHARGED ON DRUG AND ENDANGERMENT OFFENSES IN NEW MADRID COUNTY
A man was arrested in New Madrid County on Tuesday after being charged with drug possession and child endangerment.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 42 year old Jonathan Coburn, of Deleon Springs Florida, was arrested on a felony charge of delivery of a controlled substance – marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and the felony offense of 2nd degree child welfare endangerment.
After being charged and filed, he was released roadside.

POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY PRODUCTION
A Poplar Bluff woman will be spending 20 years in federal prison after being charged on child pornography production.
Officials with the Butler County Sheriff’s Department tell KWOC News that Amber Longhibler was sentenced to 240 months in prison, on the felony charge of sexual exploitation of a minor through the production of child pornography.
The charge comes from an investigation made into her and her codefendant, Brandon Hopper, where it was found that the two had been exchanging pornographic material depicting a minor through their cell phones.
At her interview, Longhibler admitted to taking several photographs of the minor, as well as using her phone to send the pictures to Hopper.
Hopper previously pleaded guilty to the felony offense of sexual exploitation of a minor, and has a sentencing set for January 20th. He faces a minimum of 15 years in prison.
WOMAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON METH POSSESSION
A woman was charged with several drug possession offenses in Wayne County on Monday.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 29 year old Charity Allen, of Silva, was taken into custody on a felony offense on possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, as well as possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following her arrest, she was transported to the Wayne County Jail.
POPLAR BLUFF R-1 MAKES PLANS FOR SAFE ROOM AT LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Plans are currently underway to implement a safe room at the Lake Road Elementary School in Poplar Bluff.
According to the Poplar Bluff R-1 School Board, the plan is currently in its first phase, which is to put out an application for a grant for the FEMA safe room at the elementary school. The room itself would cost around $920,000, and be about 3,500 square feet in size.
Superintendent Dr. Scott Dill is also making plans for ushering a new library and media center at the school, though a decision has yet to be made.

POPLAR BLUFF COUNCIL SCHEDULED TO REVIEW POTENTIAL FACE MASK MANDATE
Poplar Bluff City Council members will be looking over a potential, city-wide face mask requirement due to concerns over COVID-19.

BUTLER COUNTY NOW CLASSIFIED AS AN EXTREME RISK COUNTY FROM COVID-19
Butler County is now classified as an extreme risk area for COVID-19.
According to the criteria of the recent public health warning released by state health officials, as of Monday, Butler County is now under category one of the coronavirus safety plan. This means that the County is above a 15% positivity rate, and over 350 cases have been confirmed per 100,000 tests performed.
Under the extreme risk category, face masks are strongly advised in all offices and businesses where social distancing is not possible, social groups should be kept to 10 people or less, and anyone exposed to COVID-19 should quarantine for a minimum of 14 days, regardless of a positive or negative test result.
MAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON MULTIPLE DRUG RELATED CHARGES
A man was taken into custody in Wayne County on Monday on multiple drug related charges.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 39 year old Jimmy Nunnery, of Patterson, was charged on felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, as well as a possession count of marijuana, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
CASES OF COVID-19 INCREASE THROUGHOUT SOUTHEAST MISSOURI; STATE TOTAL NEARING 325,000
Cases of the coronavirus across southeast Missouri have continued to increase, while the state is nearing 325,000 total cases of the disease.
According to the Butler County Health Department, 52 new cases of the virus were confirmed on Monday, bringing the County’s total cases to 2,816. Three deaths were also reported from the disease, with the County now standing at 24 deaths from COVID-19.
In Stoddard County, 52 new cases were reported over the weekend, bringing the County’s total cases to 2,329. Of them, 163 are active, while 2,114 have recovered. The County has also reported a total of 52 deaths caused by the coronavirus.
Dunklin County now stands at 2,290 cases. Of them, 2,169 have recovered, and 103 are currently active.
In Missouri, as of Monday, there are now 324,956 cases of the virus in the state, while 4,194 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.
POPLAR BLUFF MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON MULTIPLE FELONY WARRANTS IN STODDARD COUNTY
A Poplar Bluff resident was arrested on several felony warrants in Stoddard County on Monday.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 31 year old David Fletcher was booked on three felony warrants out of Butler County for receiving stolen property and two counts of stealing, as well as a felony warrant out of Carter County for stealing. He was also charged with the felony offense of resisting arrest.
The total amount stolen by Fletcher is over $25,000.
He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, on a $65,000 cash or surety bond.
INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY
Injuries were reported after a vehicle crashed in Stoddard County on Monday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened when a vehicle failed to negotiate a curve on Route ZZ, south of Dudley, causing it to travel off the south side of the roadway.
An elderly occupant of the vehicle suffered minor injuries from the incident, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.
ROADWAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY TO CLOSE FOR MAINTENANCE
A roadway in Dunklin County will be closing while undergoing maintenance.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route B, between Route BB and County Road 332, will be closed while MODOT crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway.
The work will take place today and Wednesday, from 8 am to 3 pm daily.

HOME HEAVILY DAMAGED BY FIRE IN DUNKLIN COUNTY
A home was heavily damaged by a fire in Dunklin County on Friday.
According to the Kennett Fire Department, firefighter crews responded to a call of a structure fire on King Street, where the home was heavily engulfed by the time officials arrived at the scene. The occupants were able to escape before being injured, however the home suffered major damage, and most of the interior was destroyed.
The cause of the fire was reported to be a space heater that was left on in a bedroom at the back of the house.

HOLCOMB MAN ARRESTED IN DUNKLIN COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE CHARGE
A Holcomb man was taken into custody in Dunklin County on Friday a methamphetamine charge.
According to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department, 48 year old Brandon Lesslie was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, as well as four counts of felony possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Dunklin County Jail.
EARTHQUAKES REPORTED IN NEW MADRID AND RIPLEY COUNTIES
Earthquakes were reported in New Madrid County and Ripley Counties early Friday morning.
According to the US Geological Survey, the first quake was reported north of Doniphan in Ripley County. It struck around 12:40 am, and registered at a magnitude of 2.7, with a depth of about a mile.
The second was recorded near Howardville in New Madrid, and hit at 2:30 am. It registered with a magnitude of 2.1, and had a depth of around a mile.
MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION OFFENSES
A man was taken into custody in New Madrid County on Friday on a drug possession charge.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 62 year old Bartolo Resto, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was arrested on a felony charge on delivery of a controlled substance – except 35 grams or less of marijuana or synthetic cannabinoid.
He was transported to the New Madrid County Jail following his arrest.
DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE COLLISION IN NEW MADRID COUNTY
A driver suffered moderate injuries after two vehicles collided in New Madrid County on Friday.
According to officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision happened on Missouri 153, at County Road 524 near Parma, where a vehicle was struck after it crossed the roadway and into the immediate path of another oncoming car.
Following the crash, the driver was transported to a hospital in Dexter for treatment.
ROADWAYS IN DUNKLIN AND RIPLEY COUNTIES SCHEDULED FOR REPAIRS
Roadways in Dunklin and Ripley Counties are scheduled for various repairs.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route NN in Dunklin County, from US Route 412 to Missouri Route 164, will be reduced to one lane while MODOT crews perform edge rut repairs. The work will start today, and will continue through Friday, from 7 am to 3:30 pm daily.
In Ripley County, a section of Route K, located south of County Road K-4, will be closed while MODOT crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway. The work is scheduled to take place today, from 8 am to 2 pm.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO DRUG DISTRIBUTION
A Poplar Bluff man faces time in prison after he pleaded guilty to drug distribution charges.
According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, Marvin Price Sr. was charged after he pleaded guilty to two felony charges on distribution of heroin, after an investigation was made by members of the Poplar Bluff Police Department and SEMO Drug Task Force in September and November of 2018.
During the investigation, a controlled purchase was performed, in which an individual working with authorities purchased around $1,400 worth of a controlled substance from Price, which was later identified to be heroin and Fentanyl.
Price has a sentencing set for March 8th, where he faces up to 20 years in prison on both charges.

SIX INJURED FROM VEHICLE COLLISION IN RIPLEY COUNTY
Six people were injured from a vehicle crash in Ripley County on Thursday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision happened on Highway 160, east of Doniphan, where a vehicle was struck in the rear by another car while it was stopped to make a left turn.
The driver, as well as four occupants of the struck vehicle, suffered minor injuries from the crash, while the driver of the oncoming vehicle received moderate injuries. They were all transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.
ROADWAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION DURING BRIDGE REPAIRS
A roadway in Dunklin County will be reduced while bridge repairs are underway.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route BB, from Route B in Dunklin County, to County Road 559 in Arkansas, will be reduced to one lane while MODOT crews repair the bridge over the St. Francis River.
The work will start on Monday at 7 am, and will continue throughout Wednesday, from 7 am to 4 pm daily.
RIVER RADIO LIGHTED CHRISTMAS PARADE SET FOR TONIGHT
Parade lights will be shining bright tonight in Downtown Poplar Bluff during the 2020 River Radio Lighted Christmas Parade.
Lineup will begin at 5:45 pm at the Hydro Adventures parking with the parade starting at 6:30 pm.
The parade route will run from Highway 142 at McDonald’s through downtown Poplar Bluff before ending back at the Black River Coliseum.
ARREST MADE IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON SEVERAL DRUG RELATED CHARGES
An arrest was made in New Madrid County on Thursday on several drug related charges.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 34 year old Nichole Hydle, of Lilbourn, was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and LSD, as well as possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was also charged with the felony offense of endangering the welfare of a child.
Following her arrest, she was transported to the New Madrid County Jail.
VEHICLE FIRE REPORTED ON ROADWAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY
Hayti Fire Department crews responded to a vehicle fire on a roadway in Pemiscot County on Thursday.
According to officials with the department, the fire was reported at 5 pm on Interstate 55, near mile marker 16, where a vehicle caught fire while it was being pulled by a wrecker out of Memphis. The vehicle was fully engulfed by the time firefighter crews arrived at the scene, and was destroyed by the flames.
Both passengers were able to get out of the car, and were not injured. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

ONE POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED, ONE CURRENTLY BEING SEARCHED FOR IN HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION
Two Poplar Bluff men have been identified as persons of interest in a homicide investigation.
Lt. Josh Steward with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News that authorities responded to a call about a shooting at a residence in the 100 block of Begley Street at approximately 10:30 pm on Tuesday. When officers arrived at the scene, 23 year old Kevin Sanders and 23 year old Adriana Lundy, both of Poplar Bluff, were found with gunshot wounds.
They were both transported to a local health care facility after they were found. Lundy’s injuries have been classified as serious, but not life threatening. Sanders succumbed to his injuries while under care.
In an investigation into the shooting, 22 year old Christopher Gilmore and 25 year old Stacy Gipson, both of Poplar Bluff, were being sought in connection to the incident. Gilmore has been located and taken into custody at the Butler County Justice Center on 2nd degree murder, 1st degree assault, armed criminal action, and 1st degree robbery and burglary.
The department is currently seeking the whereabouts of Gipson, and anyone with information on him or his location is asked to call the department at 573-785-5776. He is considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached.

THREE INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY
Three people were injured after a vehicle crashed in Butler County on Wednesday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash took place on Highway 51, south of Qulin, where a vehicle ran off the roadway after it swerved to miss an animal in the roadway. It proceeded to overcorrect and strike a tree, causing the vehicle to catch fire.
The driver of the vehicle was seriously injured and was flown to a Memphis hospital. One of the passengers received moderate injuries, and the other suffered minor injuries from the crash. They were both transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.
MISSOURI GOVERNOR MIKE PARSON ANNOUNCES EXPANSIONS TO HOSPITAL STAFF AND CAPACITY
Missouri Governor Mike Parson announced that expansions will be made to hospital staffing and capacity.
The announcement was made on Wednesday during a COVID-19 briefing, and stated that there will be around 760 staff members added to Missouri hospitals, including registered nurses, nurse assistants, and respiratory therapists.
There will also be close to 600 hospital beds added to help increase statewide bed capacity, and the plan will be implemented in the coming weeks.
LOCAL WOMAN CHARGED WITH FELONY METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION
A Poplar Bluff woman was arrested in Butler County on Tuesday on a felony methamphetamine charge.
According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 21 year old Sharon Kelly was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance of methamphetamine.
Following her arrest, she was transported to the Butler County Jail.
PARAGOULD MAN CHARGED WITH RAPE OF A MINOR
A Paragould man was charged with several rape charges of a minor on Wednesday.
Officials with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department report that 29 year old Aaron Gottfried was charged with three counts of rape, after the 14 year old victim went to authorities to inform them about the acts, all of which happened within Paragould city limits.
He was transported to the Greene County Jail following his arrest, and is being held on a $150,000 bond.

NEELYVILLE MAN CHARGED ON ASSAULT AND WEAPON OFFENSES AFTER OPENING FIRE ON TEEN
A Neelyville man has been charged with assault and weapon offenses after he opened fire on a teenager on Sunday.
Officials with the Butler County Sheriff's Department tell KWOC News that 63 year old James Young was charged with felony 1st degree assault, as well as endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful use of a weapon.
These charges stem from an investigation made by the department, which found that Young had shot at a 15 year old who was retrieving animal traps from his family’s property. While disarming the traps, the teen heard a gunshot and could hear a bullet pass by his head. He then ran to safety, and proceeded to contact authorities.
During an interview following the incident, Young admitted to shooting at the teen with a .22 caliber rifle, stating that one of the animal traps caught and hurt his dog.
Young is currently being held at the Butler County Jail on these offenses, with a $100,000 cash or surety bond.

WOMAN ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION AND RESISTING ARREST
A woman was taken into custody in Wayne County on Saturday on drug possession and resisting arrest.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 46 year old Tommye White, of Mill Spring, was charged on a felony warrant out of Wayne County for possession of a controlled substance, as well as a felony charge on resisting arrest.
Following her arrest, she was transported to the Wayne County Jail.
DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE COLLISION IN PEMISCOT COUNTY
A driver was injured following a vehicle collision in Pemiscot County on Tuesday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision happened when a vehicle was struck in the rear on US 61 in Holland while stopped to make a left turn. The impact caused the car to run off the right side of the roadway and strike a mailbox.
The driver of the oncoming vehicle suffered moderate injuries as a result of the incident, and was transported to a hospital in Dyersburg, Tennessee for treatment.

The Poplar Bluff Police Department is currently searching for the whereabouts of a suspect.

None of them were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.

CARTER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT OFFERING REWARD FOR INFORMATION ON ILLEGAL POACHING
Officials in Carter County are offering a reward for information on a recent poaching at the Ozark National Scenic Riverways.
According to the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, rangers with the part received a call about three dead deer in Big Spring last Monday, which were shot from nearby roadways with hunting rifles sometime on November 22nd or 23rd.
It was determined that the deer were killed illegally, and up to $5,000 is being offered for any information about the poachers, including the names or descriptions of the suspects, or what vehicles they were driving at the time.

DEXTER MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES
A Dexter man was arrested in Stoddard County on Thursday on drug and weapon offenses.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 36 year old Eric Kirkpatrick was booked on two Stoddard County warrants for unlawful use of a weapon, as well as possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, on a $7,500 cash or surety bond.
TOTAL CASES OF COVID-19 IN MISSOURI NEARING 300,000
The state of Missouri is nearing 300,000 total cases of the coronavirus, while several areas of Southeast Missouri have continued to see an increase of cases.
According to the Butler County Health Department, 51 new cases were reported on Monday, bringing the County’s total to 2,653 cases. Stoddard County reported 44 new cases over the weekend, and now stands at 2,168 total cases, and 42 deaths caused by the disease. Of the total cases, 283 are active, and 1,843 have recovered.
In Missouri, as of Monday, there are now 299,762 cases of the virus in the state, while 3,829 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

Two deaths were reported from a vehicle collision in New Madrid County on Wednesday.
According to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision happened at 11 am on US 61, south of Sikeston, where a vehicle was struck by another oncoming car after failing to stop at a stop sign.
The driver of the vehicle, 78 year old Delbert Parsons, as well as the passenger of his vehicle, 77 year old Wanda Parsons, both of Bertrand, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL RELEASES HOLIDAY COUNTING PERIOD RESULTS
The Missouri State Highway Patrol released the results from the Thanksgiving counting period on Monday.
According to the report, the counting period saw 321 crashes, 72 injuries, and 9 fatality crashes. There were also 100 DWI, and 78 drug arrests made. The 2019 counting period saw 404 crashes, 166 injuries, and 7 fatalities.
There were no boating injuries, arrests, or deaths reported.
The counting period began on Wednesday at 11:59 PM, and ran through 11:59 PM on Sunday.

BUTLER COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT HOSTING COVID-19 TESTING TODAY
The Butler County Health Department will be hosting a COVID-19 testing site today.
According to the Department, the test will be performed by nasal swab, and participants will be asked questions about any symptoms they may have. The test is free and available to all Missouri residents who want to be tested, and test results will be sent by phone. Those that are being tested will stay inside their vehicles while the test is performed.
The testing will be held at Whiteley Park, at the Intersection of Highway 53 and 142, from 9 am to 3 pm.
TEXAS MAN FACING FELONY DRUG CHARGE FOLLOWING ARREST IN PEMISCOT COUNTY
A Texas man has been taken into custody in Pemiscot County on a felony meth charge.
According to the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department, 42 year old Stephen Ward, of Houston, Texas, was arrested Sunday afternoon on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
Authorities say he was also arrested on charges of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and no valid driver’s license.
Following the arrest, Ward was transported to the Pemiscot County Jail.
KENNETT WOMAN KILLED IN HEAD ON COLLISION IN DUNKLIN COUNTY
An area woman has died following a head-on collision over the weekend in Southeast Missouri.
Officials with the Arkansas State Police tell KWOC News that the crash occurred shortly before 1 pm Friday, when two vehicles collided on Route Y, one mile east of Caruthersville in Dunklin County.
The driver of one of the vehicles, 53 year old Jamie Brock, of Kennett, was killed in the wreck. The other driver suffered unspecified injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

Last week was Winter Weather Awareness week and the Missouri State Highway Patrol is encouraging you to take steps to help make sure your family stays safe this winter.
The Highway Patrol suggests keeping your fuel tank at least half full. Having an ice scraper, tire chains, battery booster cables, blankets, extra coats, gloves, water, non-perishable food, flashlight, and a bag of sand or cat litter in your trunk can also help when trouble strikes.
Another important step is creating a family emergency plan and an emergency kit for your home with bottled water and food that can be prepared without cooking in case of a power outage.
Kits should include bottled water, canned and dry foods, a battery-powered radio, flashlights, extra batteries, a manual can opener and a first-aid kit.
NOVEMBER DEER HARVEST DOWN FROM LAST YEAR
Hunters checked over 176,000 deer during the 11-day November portion of Missouri’s firearms deer season.
Missouri hunters checked a total of 176,604 deer during firearms deer season which ran from November 14th through 24th. The number is down slightly from last year’s harvest which was 179,960.
The Missouri Department of Conservation reports the top harvest counties were Howell with 3,496 deer checked; Franklin with 3,409; and Texas with 3,374.
Weather likely played a role in the decreased number of deer harvested.

POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOLS TO BE OUT REMAINDER OF WEEK FOR THANKSGIVING
Poplar Bluff students will be getting out of class the remainder of the week for Thanksgiving.
Poplar Bluff R-1 Superintendent Dr. Scott Dill tells KWOC News that classes will be dismissed for the Poplar Bluff R-I school district today through the 29th for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Dill says the regular class schedule will resume on Monday, November 30th.
FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS AUTO TOUR TO OPEN THIS WEEKEND
The official opening of the 28th Annual Festival of Lights Auto Tour is set for Friday.
The Wappapello Lake Area Association and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be partnering for this year’s event at the Redman Creek East Campground from November 27th through January 3rd.
The free tour will be open on weekends from 5 to 9 pm through December 13th, and then every night from December 18th through January 3rd.

THANKSGIVING COOKING SAFETY TIPS
Thanksgiving is almost here, and the American Red Cross is reminding you to stay safe while you prepare the holiday dinner.
The Red Cross advises that cooks should avoid wearing loose clothing or dangling sleeves while preparing the holiday meal. You should also never leave the stove unattended – if the cook has to leave the kitchen even for a short time, they should turn off the stove.
Remember to clean cooking surfaces on a regular basis to prevent grease buildup and keep anything that can catch fire, including pot holders, oven mitts, and food packaging, away from the stove, oven or any other appliance in the kitchen that generates heat.
Children and pets also bring an increased chance of accidents and should be kept away from the cooking area.
BUTLER COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT HOSTING COVID-19 TESTING SITE NEXT MONDAY
The Butler County Health Department will be hosting a COVID-19 testing site next Monday.
According to the department, they will be having first come, first serve coronavirus tests to anyone who wants to get tested. The tests will be performed through a nasal swab, and participants will stay inside their vehicles while the test is performed.
You will also be asked questions about any potential symptoms you may or may not have.

DEADLINE APPROACHING FOR ENTRY INTO THE RIVER RADIO LIGHTED CHRISTMAS PARADE
The deadline has been extended to get your entry in for the 2020 River Radio Lighted Christmas Parade.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm on Friday, December 4th. Entry forms are available on our Facebook page and website. The deadline to submit your float entry has been extended to December 3rd.

A missing person has been reported out of New Madrid County.
According to the New Madrid Police Department, Gerald Haynes Jr. was last seen on November 19th, near the intersection of Kings highway and Mott Street in New Madrid.
He was driving a white, 2-door, 2-wheel 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, with black fender flares. It had Missouri tags, marked 4SA-J21.

ENDANGERED SILVER ADVISORY CANCELLED
An Endangered Silver Advisory that was recently issued for a man last heard from at 7 am on Monday, near the Sikeston area has been cancelled.
According to the Steele Police Department, the advisory for 72 year old Billy Quinn was cancelled Monday evening.
Officials say he was located safe in Marion, Arkansas. No further details about the incident were released.
DRIVER EXAMINATION STATIONS TO BE CLOSED LATER THIS WEEK FOR THANKSGIVING
Driver Examination Stations across the state of Missouri are going to be closed later this week.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the stations will be closed both Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Normal operations will resume on Monday, November 30th.
17TH ANNUAL SANTALAND AT THE POPLAR BLUFF BLACK RIVER COLISEUM
The 17th Annual Santa Land will be returning to the Black River Coliseum.
Children who participate will be given a goody bag and a stamp card, and can use the card to gather stamps and treats from booths around the Coliseum. Anyone who gathers all the stamps will be added to a drawing to win an iPad.
The event will also feature plenty of treats, hot chocolate, and a picture with Santa. Priority is being given to safety and health during the event in order to prevent further spread of the coronavirus, and participants are being asked to wear face masks and gloves while indoors. Social distancing will be required.

OVER 18,000 DEER HARVESTED DURING EARLY YOUTH PORTION OF DEER HUNTING SEASON
Young hunters in Missouri harvested over 15,000 deer earlier this month.
According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, preliminary data shows that young hunters ages 6 through 15 harvested 15,591 deer during Missouri’s early youth portion of the 2020 deer hunting season, which ran on October 31st and November 1st.
Osage was the top county in the state with 336 deer checked, followed by Bollinger, Franklin, and Ripley counties.
The late youth portion of firearms deer season has been scheduled for November 27th through November 29th. You can find more information online at mdc.mo.gov.
SOFTBALL AND FOOTBALL PLAYER NAMED ATHLETES OF THE MONTH
A Softball and Football player have been chosen as October Athletes of the Month at Poplar Bluff High School.
Audrey Rahlmann-Lack and Jacob Baller were chosen for the honor by the Poplar Bluff Mules Booster Club.
Rahlmann-Lack maintains an 11.14 GPA in the classroom. As a senior, she had 14 RBI’S, scored a team high 32 runs, and had 15 extra base hits. Her batting average is .390, and had 23 steals.
Baller was a two way starter for the Mules Football team. As a junior, he ended the 2020 season with 24 catches for 395 yards and had four touchdowns. While he was nominated for football, Baller is a clutch baseball player as well.
POPLAR BLUFF KIWANIS CLUB HOSTING PAJAMA DRIVE
The Poplar Bluff Kiwanis Club is collecting new pajamas for area children.
The Kiwanis Club Pajama drive is going on through mid-December and they are looking for boys and girls new pajamas in sizes ranging from newborn to young adults.
Pajamas can be dropped off at Whitworth Gift Chest Jewelers and First Midwest Bank. All pajamas will be donated to children in foster care before Christmas.

POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON DRUG AND ASSAULT CHARGES
A Poplar Bluff resident was taken into custody in Butler County on Saturday on drug and assault charges.
According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 29 year old Shondrika Hughes was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, as well as possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was also charged with resisting arrest, and two warrants out of Poplar Bluff for assault and property damage.
Following her arrest, she was transported to the Butler County Jail.
SERIOUS INJURIES REPORTED FROM VEHICLE COLLISION IN PEMISCOT COUNTY
A driver was seriously injured in a vehicle collision in Pemiscot County on Sunday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision happened on Interstate 55, south of Hayti, where a vehicle struck the towed unit of another car while it was merging into the northbound lane.
Following the crash, the driver was transported to a Hayti hospital for treatment.
MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES
A man was arrested in Stoddard County on Saturday on several drug possession charges.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 34 year old Tony Ellis Jr., of Dexter, was booked on a Stoddard County Warrant for possession of a controlled substance, as well as possession of marijuana, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, on a $7,500 cash only bond.
HAYTI FIRE DEPARTMENT HOSTING ANNUAL DINNER AND FUNDRAISER
The Hayti Fire Department will be hosting its 41st Annual Rib Dinner and Fundraiser next weekend.
The department will be having to go orders of ribs, as well as cash give-aways from ticket sales. A raffle will be held for a John Deere Mower, Pellet Grill, Franchi Rifle, and an Ipad pro with a $500 VISA card. Tickets for two to-go plates of ribs will be $35, and raffle tickets are $20 each.
The event will be held at the Hayti Fire Department on December 5th, from 5 to 7 pm. Raffle drawings will be at 9 pm.
ROADWAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION DURING BRIDGE REPAIRS
A roadway in Pemiscot County County will be reduced while bridge repairs are underway.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Southbound Interstate 55, from mile marker 17 to mile marker 16 near Hayti, will be reduced to one lane while MODOT crews perform bridge repairs.
The work is scheduled to start on November 30th, and will continue through December 2nd, from 6:30 am to 3 pm daily.

ARREST MADE IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES
A woman was taken into custody in New Madrid County on Thursday on drug possession charges.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 26 year old Angeline Cedano, of Florissant, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – cocaine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following her arrest, she was transported to the New Madrid County Jail.
TWO BLOOD DRIVES AVAILABLE IN POPLAR BLUFF TODAY
There will be two opportunities to donate blood in Poplar Bluff today.

MISSOURI GOVERNOR MIKE PARSON ISSUES PUBLIC HEALTH WARNING; STATEWIDE EMERGENCY ORDER EXTENDED
Missouri Governor Mike Parson issued a public health warning, and has extended the statewide emergency order.
The announcement was made on Thursday during a COVID-19 press conference, where Governor Parson announced that due to growing concerns and an increase of coronavirus cases, the statewide emergency order, which has been in effect since March, has been extended until at least March of 2021.
The Governor also issued a statewide public health warning due to the upcoming flu and winter seasons, which includes a community guidance and action plan.
This includes proper social distancing, face mask usage, limitations to gatherings, and lowering travel outside of Missouri.
ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED ACROSS SOUTHEAST MISSOURI; STATE TOTAL NOW OVER 257,000
Additional cases of the coronavirus have been reported throughout Southeast Missouri, while the state total has risen past 257,000 confirmed cases.
According to the Butler County Health Department, 35 new cases were reported on Thursday, bringing the County’s total cases to 2,389. Stoddard County has seen 68 new cases, and now stands at 1,865 total positive cases. Of them, 399 are active, and 1,434 have recovered.
Dunklin County now stands at 1,893 cases of the virus. Of them, 1,789 have recovered, and 92 are still active.
In Missouri, as of Thursday, there are now a total of 257,822 cases of the virus in the state, while 3,507 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.
If you are experiencing or showing any symptoms of the virus, including fever, shortness of breath, and persistent coughing, you are advised to contact your primary healthcare provider before visiting any hospital or emergency room.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision happened on US 61, at Route F in Holland, where a vehicle was struck when it pulled into the path of another oncoming vehicle.
Both the driver, and a juvenile occupant, of the struck vehicle suffered minor injuries, and were transported to a Blytheville hospital for treatment.

A red flag warning will be put into effect today in several areas in Southeast Missouri.
According to the National Weather Service, the warning will be placed into effect in Butler, Carter, Dunklin, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Ripley, Stoddard, and Wayne Counties starting at 9 am, and will continue through 6 pm. Winds are expected to reach between 15 to 30 miles, with gusts around 30 to 40 miles per hour.
While the warning is in effect, residents in the affected areas are advised to not burn or start fires, as the combination of high winds and low humidity are likely to rapidly spread any flames that are started.

RIPLEY COUNTY MAN CHARGED WITH ILLEGAL FIREARM POSSESSION
A Ripley County man faces time in prison after pleading guilty to illegally possessing a firearm.
According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, Timothy Ossana was charged with the felony offense of being a felon in possession of a firearm after an investigation was made in January, where officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol received a .380-caliber pistol from a citizen, which was traced back to Ossana.
He has also been previously convicted of aggravated assault with a weapon in April of 1999, and two felony possession of firearm charges in May of 2010, and September of 2014.
Ossana currently faces up to 10 years in prison for the firearm charge, with a three year period of supervised release.
JOHN J PERSHING VA MEDICAL CENTER IN POPLAR BLUFF OPENING NEW URGENT CARE FACILITY
The Poplar Bluff John J Pershing VA Medical Center will be opening a new urgent care facility.
The additional facility, which is currently being used to some extent for urgent care patients, includes a desk and room for VA police, eight patient rooms, a mental crises and women’s health room, an isolation room, and five general patient rooms.
The facility addition currently sees about 30 veterans daily, and the VA will be holding a virtual ribbon cutting and tour of the facility on their Facebook page.
MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION URGES SAFETY DURING DEER SEASON
The Missouri Department of Conservation is urging hunters to remain cautions and practice safety during the ongoing deer season.
According to the department, three accidental shootings have been reported since firearm hunting started, and officials with the conservation are pushing for safety among hunters while hunting is starting across more wooded areas in the state.
Some safety tips include keeping the muzzle of the firearm pointed away from yourself and others, keeping your fingers off the trigger and the safety on until you’re ready to fire, and to be aware of what you’re shooting at, and what might be behind or around it.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE COLLISION IN BUTLER COUNTY
A driver was injured after two vehicles collided in Butler County on Wednesday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision happened on Route PP, west of Poplar Bluff, where a vehicle failed to yield to another oncoming car, striking it in its passenger side.
The driver of the struck vehicle suffered minor injuries from the incident, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.
CAPITAL DOME AND GOVERNOR’S MANSION TO BE LIT PURPLE FOR NATIONAL ADOPTION MONTH
The state of Missouri will be celebrating National Adoption Month by lightning the capitol dome and governor’s mansion purple.
The building’s will be lit purple starting on Friday evening throughout the weekend, in recognition of the 1,500 children and youth in Missouri who are currently in foster care.

ROADWAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY TO BE REDUCED FOR REPAIRS
A roadway in Pemiscot County will be reduced while undergoing repairs.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Southbound Interstate 155, from mile marker 5.5 to mile marker 7 near Caruthersville, will be reduced to one lane while MODOT crews perform several pavement repair projects.
The work will start on November 30th, and will continue through December 4th.

POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL DISTRICT CONTINUES TO IMPROVE AFTER MASK MANDATE IMPLEMENTATION
The Poplar Bluff School District has seen continued improvement to student attendance after a mask mandate was implemented earlier in the month.
School Superintendent Dr. Scott Dill tells KWOC News that since the school began to mandate face masks for grades 4-12, the number of students missing class due to being quarantined from the coronavirus has steadily decreased. Currently, the number of students out of school due to quarantine is down to just 4 percent.
Dill also stated that the school has been, and will be constantly monitoring the situation in regards to the virus, and that proper protection and safety is a top priority for the district at this time.

ARREST MADE IN STODDARD COUNTY ON SODOMY CHARGE
A man was taken into custody in Stoddard County on Tuesday on sodomy related charges.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 38 year old Hobert Voss Jr., of Dexter, was booked on a warrant out of Stoddard County for Statutory Sodomy- Deviate sexual intercourse of a person under 12 years of age.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Stoddard County Jail, on a $35,000 bond.
INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY
Injuries were reported following a vehicle crash in Butler County on Tuesday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 2 pm at US 67, south of York Village, where a vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and crossed the median and southbound lanes, before it struck a tree.
The driver of the vehicle suffered moderate injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment.
MOBILE CAMPER FIRE REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY
Firefighters out of Poplar Bluff and Butler County responded to a call of a vehicle fire in Butler County on Tuesday.
According to officials with the departments, a fifth-wheel camper was found ablaze Tuesday afternoon on Old Highway B, across from the former Riggs building. Heavy smoke was coming from the vehicle when firefighter crews arrived at the scene.
Damage was reported from the flames, and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
CAMPBELL MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION
A Campbell man was arrested in Dunklin County on Monday on methamphetamine possession.
According to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department, 25 year old Stevie Williams was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, as well as felony possession of meth paraphernalia.
He was transported to the Dunklin County Jail following his arrest.
ROADWAY IN RIPLEY COUNTY SCHEDULED TO CLOSE FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS
A roadway in Ripley County will be closing while pavement repairs are underway.
According to officials with the City of Doniphan, a few sections of Jefferson Street, at the intersections of US Highway 160, Court Square, Willow Street, and Current River Drive, will be closed while contractor crews complete paving projects.
The roadwork is scheduled to begin at 8 am on Thursday.

CASES OF COVID-19 IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI CONTINUE TO RISE; STATE TOTAL OVER 243,000
Cases of the coronavirus in Southeast Missouri have continued to rise, while the state total has risen past 243,000 cases.
According to the Butler County Health Department, 136 new cases were reported on Friday, raising the County’s total to 2,244 cases. A spike in cases is expected due to the increase in mass testing in the County. Stoddard County reported 75 new cases on Monday, bringing the County’s total to 1,684. Of them, 377 are active, while 1,276 have recovered.
Dunklin County now stands at 1,806 confirmed cases. Of them, 1,665 have recovered, while 129 are still active.
In Missouri, as of Monday, there are now a total of 243,169 cases of the virus in the state, while 3,386 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.
If you are experiencing any symptoms of the virus, such as persistent coughing, shortness of breath, or fever, you are advised to contact your primary healthcare provider before visiting any hospital or emergency room.

ARREST MADE IN STODDARD COUNTY ON SEVERAL DRUG POSSESSION CHARGES
A man was arrested in Stoddard County on Friday on several drug possession charges.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 44 year old Robert Williamson Jr., of Puxico, was booked on possession of a controlled substance – except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid, as well as possession of 35 grams of synthetic cannabinoid, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, on a $5,000 cash or surety bond.

A driver was injured after two vehicles crashed in New Madrid County on Sunday.
According to officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 1 pm on Highway 61 at Route H, east of Matthews, where two vehicles collided after failing to yield.
The elderly driver of one of the vehicles suffered moderate injuries, and was transported to a Sikeston hospital for treatment.
MISSOURI SENATE POSTPONES SPECIAL SENATE DUE TO COVID-19 CONCERNS
A special session in the Missouri Senate has been postponed due to concerns over the coronavirus.
According to Senate Majority Leader Caleb Rowden, the decision to postpone the session came from a spike in COVID-19 cases among senate members and staff. He also stated that the decision did not come lightly.
The meeting for the legislation, which would include a liability bill for COVID-19 involving protection for health care workers, people producing, distributing, or selling products, and premises protection, will be postponed until after Thanksgiving.
SIKESTON MAN ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES
A Sikeston man was taken into custody in New Madrid County on Sunday for drug and firearm possession charges.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 24 year old Terrance Jackson was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – 97 pills of ecstasy, as well as a felony count on unlawful possession of a firearm.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office.
ROADWAY IN PEMISCOT COUNTY SET TO CLOSE FOR BRIDGE REPLACEMENT
A roadway in Pemiscot County will be closing while a bridge is being replaced.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route CC, between County Road 208 and County Road 218, near Wardell, will be closed while contractor crews replace the bridge over the Little River.
The work will start on November 30th, and is expected to be completed on January 25th.
