ONE TEENAGER DEAD AND THREE OTHERS SERIOUSLY INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN DUNKLIN COUNTY
A death has been reported, and three others were severely injured from a vehicle crash in Dunklin County on Thursday.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that a vehicle ran off the left side of Highway NN, north of the Arkansas State Line, before striking a utility pole and overturning.
A 16 year old occupant was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, with the 16 year old driver, as well as a 17 year old and 19 year old passenger, suffering serious injuries from the incident.
The three injured were transported by air to a hospital in Memphis.

ADDITIONAL CHARGES FILED AGAINST PIEDMONT MAN IN STABBING INVESTIGATION
A Piedmont man has been charged with additional felony charges in a recent stabbing investigation.
32 year old Daniel Adams was initially charged on March 26th for the murder of his mother, 57 year old Gabrielle Gamble, who was found dead in her garage with multiple stab wounds.
Officials with the Piedmont Police Department went to her home to perform a wellness check, where Adams reported that she had been absent from the home for the last few days. The officers searched the home, and found Gamble wrapped in a carpet covered with tires and sandbags.
When questioned, Adams told the investigators that Gamble had allegedly struck him in the head, and that he retaliated, striking her and stabbing her multiple times. After hiding the body, he cleaned the scene of the crime, as well as the knife and clothes he was wearing.
Adams is scheduled to appear in court on April 23rd, for felony charges on 1st degree murder, armed criminal action, tampering with physical evidence, and abandonment of a corpse.
RESIDENTS OF MISSOURI REMINDED TO FOLLOW COVID-19 PREVENTATIVE MEASURES
Residents of Missouri are being asked to stick close to the present countermeasures for stopping the spread of COVID-19 this Easter.
The Butler County Health Department is requesting that individuals who are celebrating Easter and the Passover stay at home, and report that the upcoming weeks are crucial for keeping up with preventative measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus, including washing your hands frequently, keeping a 6 foot social distance from others, and only leaving your home for emergencies.
It’s been recommended that residents find alternative ways to celebrate Easter and view prayer services, such as using an online service. Attending in person prayer services, congregating in public areas such as parks, and inviting friends and family to your home are all highly discouraged.
Churches and organizations that wish to create an online service for the holiday are advised to ask their local public health department for assistance.
MISSOURI GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES ALL PUBLIC AND CHARTER SCHOOLS WILL REMAIN CLOSED
Missouri Governor Mike Parson has announced that all Missouri schools will be closed for the remainder of the academic year.
The order was announced yesterday, and states that all Public and Charter schools in Missouri will remain closed for the year, with the exception of any nutrition services and meal delivery programs in the recent health orders. Many schools will be continuing their courses through remote learning until the end date previously set on the academic calendars.
With this announcement, the Missouri State High School Activities Association has canceled all remaining postseason events for the current school year.
TWO ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 CONFIRMED IN DUNKLIN COUNTY
Two more positive cases of the COVID-19 virus have been reported in Dunklin County.
According to the Dunklin County Health Department and Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, the County’s 11th and 12th cases were reported on Thursday, and the patients have been moved to quarantine.
The departments are working together to locate and contact anyone who may have been exposed while the patients were active.
As of Thursday, the total number of cases in Missouri has risen to 3,539 positive cases, and 77 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.
APPRECIATION GATHERING TO BE HELD TONIGHT IN POPLAR BLUFF
Butler County EMS is hosting a healthcare appreciation event tonight to thank local healthcare workers for their service during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Local First Responders will be gathering together with the public in their vehicles at the front of the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center tonight at around 7:30 pm, and will turn on their hazard lights at 8 pm to show the hospital workers that the community is there supporting them.
Children are encouraged to make and hang posters on your vehicles during the event, and it is requested that all participants stay inside their vehicles during the proceedings. Private vehicles are being asked to park in the regulated parking spots, and to not block entry ways for emergency vehicles.

MULTIPLE NEW CASES OF COVID-19 CONFIRMED IN BUTLER COUNTY
There have been several cases of the COVID-19 virus in Butler County since Wednesday.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, four positive cases of the virus were reported in Butler County, bringing the total number of cases in the County to ten. Dunklin County has also reported its tenth patient, and officials with the County’s Health Department are reminding residents to continue practicing social distancing and hygiene guidelines.
All patients have been quarantined, and the Counties’ Health Departments are working with the CDC to locate, and contact anyone who may have come into contact with the patients when they were active. If you are showing symptoms such as coughing, fever, or shortness of breath, it is recommended that you contact your primary health provider before visiting a hospital or emergency room.
As of Wednesday, the total number of positive cases of the virus in Missouri was recorded at 3,327, and 58 deaths have been reported.

MAN IN STODDARD COUNTY ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES
An Essex man was taken into custody on Wednesday in Stoddard County on several felony charges.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 30 year old Curby Easterwood was arrested on a felony charge for resisting arrest, as well as tampering with physical evidence.
He was also charged on felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Bollinger County Sheriff’s Office.
INJURIES REPORTED FROM CAR CRASH IN RIPLEY COUNTY
A driver suffered moderate injuries as a result of a vehicle crash in Ripley County on Wednesday.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that the crash happened on US 160, 4 miles west of Doniphan, where a vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a rock.
Following the incident, the driver of the vehicle was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for his injuries.
POPLAR BLUFF FACTORY SET TO PARTIALLY RESUME OPERATIONS
The Briggs and Stratton factory in Poplar Bluff is preparing to resume partial operations next week.
The factory had temporarily suspended operations in March because they were unable to obtain component parts due to complications with the spreading coronavirus, which led to the decision to shut down until April 13th.
Under the regulations of the recent stay at home order and social distancing guidelines in Missouri, some workers will be returning to their shifts on Monday, and the company has stressed that they are taking many precautions against the spreading COVID-19 virus.
POPLAR BLUFF RESIDENT INJURED IN VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY
A Poplar Bluff resident was injured following a vehicle crash in Butler County on Wednesday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when a vehicle ran off the left side of County Road 542, north of Poplar Bluff, before overturning.
The area driver suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.
CITY IN NEW MADRID COUNTY UNDER PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER ORDER
Some parts of the City of Gideon in New Madrid County are currently under a boil water order.
The precautionary boil water order has been set for areas from 4th Street to South Anderson Avenue, including both sides of 4th Street and both sides of Main Street.
The order was reportedly put in effect due to a main water line breaking, and it is not known at this time when it will be fixed.
DOWNTOWN POPLAR BLUFF HOSTING ONLINE PHOTO CONTEST
Downtown Poplar Bluff will be hosting an online photo contest starting today.
The contest involves taking and posting pictures of downtown Poplar Bluff, and the winner will be given a gift card to a local business. Photos will be accepted for the contest until April 16th, and a winner will be announced on April 17th. Residents partaking of the challenge are reminded and urged to practice social distancing guidelines while taking pictures.

According to officials with the National Weather Service in Paducah, a chance of thunderstorms will spread across our region later this evening and overnight.
Severe weather is possible with this system, especially across Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas this evening. The entire region is currently under an enhanced risk for severe weather.
The main hazards will be damaging winds, very large hail, but a few tornadoes may be a concern as well.

CONFIRMED CASES OF CORONAVIRUS REPORTED IN STODDARD AND BUTLER COUNTIES
There have been more confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus in Southeast Missouri.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, as well as the Counties Health Centers, Butler County has reported two new cases of the virus, Stoddard County its eighth, and Dunklin County has confirmed its ninth positive case of the disease.
The patients are currently in quarantine, and the Departments are working to identify and contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active.
As of Tuesday, there have been a total of 3,037 total confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus, and 53 deaths have been directly reported to the disease.
County officials urge residents to not panic, and to continue practicing social distancing and safety guidelines. If you are showing symptoms, it is recommended that you first contact your health provider before going to a hospital.
OZARK RIVERWAYS SEARCHING FOR SUSPECTS IN WILDFIRE INCIDENT
Officials with the Ozark National Riverways are searching for suspects involved in a wildfire incident that took place recently.
There are multiple arson attempts reported each year in the area, and up to $10,000 is being offered as a reward for information that can lead to finding the suspects of previous arson cases.

DISASTER RECOVERY ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE TO SOME SOUTHEAST MISSOURI COUNTIES
There is a disaster recovery and funding assistance program that will be in effect for the next few months.
According to the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission, on-call appointments are available to discuss eligibility for the assistance, which includes voluntary residential buyout, and relocation, down payment, and tenant relocation assistance.
This service is available for residents of Doniphan, Van Buren, and Carter Counties until May 15th, and can be found by calling 573-785-6402 on Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 4 pm.
MISSOURI GOVERNOR ISSUES IMPLEMENTATION OF FEDERAL PANDEMIC COMPENSATION PROGRAM
Missouri Governor Mike Parson has announced an implementation of $600 for the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation Program.
The Governor made the announcement in a briefing over the COVID-19 virus yesterday, and discussed that the FPUC will provide an additional $600 per week of federal supplement funds for those eligible for at least one dollar of unemployment compensation benefits.
Payments are expected to be sent to eligible recipients who filed for unemployment since and after March 29th, and will begin around April 12th, and will be available until July 25th.
Those who are currently employed and quit will not be eligible for unemployment benefits, including anyone who quits when sick leave is offered by their employer.
SEVERE WEATHER POSSIBLE THROUGHOUT SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
There is a potential for severe weather in Southeast Missouri this week.
According to the National Weather Service Center in Paducah, a hazardous weather outlook will be in effect throughout Southeast Missouri from today through Monday, and may include thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall.
There will also be a chance of hail and gusty winds, and some storms may be severe, with large hail and damaging winds.
CITY OF NAYLOR SCHEDULED TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING IN JUNE
The city of Naylor is scheduling a public hearing to be held in early June.
The meeting will be located at the Naylor City Hall’s Council Chambers on 101 North Front Street, and will discuss the Counties submission of an application for the FY 2020 Community Development Block Grant for a new Naylor Nutrition Center.
The city will be requesting around $500,000 in funds to build the new nutrition center, and is set to benefit clientele above the age of 60, including the disabled and homeless.
Representatives will answer public questions, and residents are being encouraged to attend. The meeting will be held on June 9th at 3:30 pm, and more information is available by calling 573-399-2592.

SHOOTING INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY IN CARUTHERSVILLE
There is an ongoing investigation in Caruthersville regarding three shooting incidents.
According to the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department, authorities received a call about shots fired on a vehicle just outside city limits on Sunday, and another call an hour later, where a home on 11th and Jefferson Streets had been shot at while the residents were inside, with a vehicle also receiving damage from the gunfire.
Authorities received yet another call about shots fired early morning on Monday, where a vehicle was found with multiple bullet holes in the passenger door. The driver and passenger of the vehicle were found later between 8th Street and Highland Avenue.
The passenger was found with a gunshot wound in his leg, and the driver reported that they were shot at from three males on West 7th Street.
The three suspects in the reported shootings have been located and taken into custody, and formal charges are pending following the investigation into the shootings.
PERMITS AND POLICE DEPARTMENT APPROVED BY POPLAR BLUFF COUNCIL
The Poplar Bluff City Council approved permits for businesses and the funding for a new police station on Monday.
According to the council, drive-thru locations for four businesses, including two new restaurants on Tucker and Shelby Roads, were approved, which includes a new location for the Lemonade House and a secondary location for Foxtrot Coffee.
Additionally, reimbursement to the city’s funds has been issued for expenses involving the new police station being built on Shelby Road, and city manager Mark Massingham reported during a meeting on Monday that the city’s 2020 budget is expected to be cut, due to the businesses that have closed because of the COVID-19 virus spread.
INJURIES REPORTED FROM VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY
Injuries were reported from a vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Monday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Two Mile Road, south of Dexter, where a vehicle ran off the left side of the road and overturned, ejecting the driver.
She received moderate injuries from the crash, and was transported to a hospital in Cape Girardeau.
MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN POPLAR BLUFF ON ASSAULT AND DISTURBING THE PEACE
An area resident was arrested in Poplar Bluff on suspicion of assault and disturbing the peace.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, 50 year old Andre Matlock, of Poplar Bluff, was taken into custody on Sunday after he allegedly purposefully coughed on a woman wearing a health mask at Walmart on Thursday.
The woman reportedly has a compromised respiratory system, and when confronted about her mask by Matlock, he supposedly intentionally coughed in her face.
He was booked in the Butler County Jail following his arrest on suspicion of 4th degree assault, and peace disturbance.
BLOOD DRIVE SCHEDULED FOR TODAY AND TOMORROW IN POPLAR BLUFF
There will be an opportunity two straight days to give blood and help save lives.
A Blood Drive has been scheduled for noon to 6 pm, both today and tomorrow, at the Black River Coliseum, in Poplar Bluff.
According to the Red Cross, blood donations are in critical need, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

LAKE WAPPAPELLO CLOSES FACILITIES AND GROUNDS DUE TO COVID-19
There are several grounds and facilities at Wappapello Lake that will be closed due to concerns over the spreading coronavirus.
According to the Wappapello Lake U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the project office, visitor center, all campgrounds, fish cleaning stations, swim beaches, and playgrounds at Wappapello Lake will be closed until further notice, and all reservations through April 30th have been canceled.
Rockwood Point, Sundowner, Peoples, and Redman Creek boat ramps, as well as the Redman Creek, Eagle Point, Greenville, and Spillway day use areas will remain open, however events and sites in the areas will be put on hold until further notice.
MAN ARRESTED IN CARUTHERSVILLE ON ASSAULT CHARGES
A man was taken into custody in Caruthersville on assault related charges.
According to the Caruthersville Police Department, officers received a call about an assault on 12th Street, where a woman at the home reported to authorities that a 35 year old man struck his father in the head with a pot, then struck him and the woman in the head with a shovel when told to leave.
The suspect ran from the house after the assault, and was taken into custody when he was found on the 400 block of West 11th Street.
He is currently being held at the Pemiscot County Jail, and is waiting two charges on assault, 1st degree, two charges of armed criminal action, and possession of a controlled substance.
DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN PEMISCOT COUNTY
A driver was seriously injured in a vehicle crash that took place in Pemiscot County on Monday.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that a vehicle ran off the left side of Route C, north of Deering, which caused the vehicle to strike a ditch.
Following the crash, the driver was transported to a hospital in Blytheville.
EARTHQUAKE RECORDED IN RANDOLPH COUNTY
An earthquake was reported in Randolph County on Monday.
According to the US Geographical Survey, the earthquake was recorded west of northwest of Jonesboro and Paragould, close to the Missouri/Arkansas State border.
It had a reported magnitude of 2.6, with a depth of around 9 miles.

MISSOURI GOVERNOR INSTATES STAY AT HOME ORDER
Missouri Governor Mike Parson has issued a state-wide stay at home order to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
While some businesses and workplaces will remain open, they will operate with no more than 10 people at a time, and must maintain social distancing guidelines. The order includes a requirement to practice social distancing when residents are outside their work or home, and states that individuals must stay inside their home when possible.
Reasons for leaving your home must include shopping for groceries or food, leaving for work, getting medicine, going to a bank, or riding public transports.
Health offices in Missouri, as well as the CDC, recommend wearing face masks or cloth coverings while in public settings to avoid any potential spreading of the coronavirus.
The Stay-at-home order began at midnight today, and will continue until April 24th, unless extended.
MISSOURI GOVERNOR INSTATES STAY AT HOME ORDER
Missouri Governor Mike Parson has issued a state-wide stay at home order to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
While some businesses and workplaces will remain open, they will operate with no more than 10 people at a time, and must maintain social distancing guidelines. The order includes a requirement to practice social distancing when residents are outside their work or home, and states that individuals must stay inside their home when possible.
Reasons for leaving your home must include shopping for groceries or food, leaving for work, getting medicine, going to a bank, or riding public transports.
Health offices in Missouri, as well as the CDC, recommend wearing face masks or cloth coverings while in public settings to avoid any potential spreading of the coronavirus.
The Stay-at-home order began at midnight today, and will continue until April 24th, unless extended.
INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING OFFICER INVOLVED VEHICLE CRASH
Injuries were reported following an officer involved vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Friday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on West Allis Street at North Allen Street in Bernie, where a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Allis Street, before being struck by an oncoming police car with sirens active at the intersection near Allen Street.
The officer driving the police vehicle suffered moderate injuries as a result of the crash, and was transported to a hospital in Cape Girardeau.
CITY OF POPLAR BLUFF HOLDING ON PHONE MEETING TODAY
The City of Poplar Bluff will be holding a city meeting today.
According to Poplar Bluff City Hall, due to concerns over the COVID-19 virus, as well as social distancing restrictions, the meeting will be held over phone, and will be discussing workshop items including commissions for drive-thru windows for food and non-alcoholic beverages at 2797 and 2789 Tucker Road, and 2779 Tucker Road Suites 1 and 9, as well as proposed resolutions for capital expenditures.
It will also discuss potential rezoning of property and possible annexing of certain properties.

DEATH AND POSITIVE CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
One death and two positive cases of the COVID-19 virus has been reported in Southeast Missouri over the weekend.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Butler County received its third confirmed case of the coronovirus, and Madison County reported its first positive case. Additionally, one death in Carter County has been reported due to the disease.
As of Sunday, there have been a total of 2,367 reported cases of COVID-19 in Missouri, and 34 deaths have been reported.
WRITTEN AND DRIVER ROAD TESTS IN MISSOURI SUSPENDED
Roadside and written tests in Missouri have been suspended due to concerns over the COVID-19 virus spread.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all written and driver road testing, including operator, commercial, and motorcycle testing, has been suspended at all locations until April 15th, in an effort to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
Salvage inspections and bus inspections at all locations have also been suspended until April 15th.
POPLAR BLUFF ANIMAL FOOD PANTRY TEMPORARILY CLOSED
A local animal food pantry will be temporarily closing their COVID-19 distribution service due to low supplies.
The Animal Welfare Alliance in Poplar Bluff has been distributing free pet food to local owners who can no longer afford to buy food for their pets due to the concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus, but will be closed on Tuesday and Thursday due to low supplies.
Another distribution day will be announced when the organization acquires more supplies.
Carter County confirms first death as a result of COVID
The Carter County Health Center is reporting the first death of a Carter County resident due to COVID-19.
The resident was a 59 year old male who had underlying health conditions.
He passed away at a Springfield Hospital earlier today. He tested positive for COVID-19 on March 23, 2020. The case was not travel related.
Everyone is urged to take preventative actions to prevent the spread of all respiratory viruses. These actions include:
• Avoid social gatherings of more than ten (10) people.
• Stay home as much as possible.
• Maintain social distancing; keeping a six foot distance for other people.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
• Stay home if you are sick.
Older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions may be at higher risk for more serious complications from COVID-19. If you are experiencing fever >100.4 or cough, please stay home and call your healthcare provider. If you are experiencing shortness of breath, please call your local hospital before arriving.
Third Confirmed Case of COVID-19 Reported in Butler County
Officials with the Butler County Health Department have confirmed a third positive case of COVID-19 in Butler County.
Local Health Department staff will be monitoring the case and additional follow up contacts will be done. They have already received a list of people from the patient’s contacts.
This patient is self-quarantining at home, according to health officials.
The Butler County Health Department is working with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and the CDC to identify and contact people who may have come in contact with the individual while they were infectious and will monitor them for fever and respiratory symptoms.

BUILDINGS AND OFFICES CLOSING IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
More office places and buildings in Southeast Missouri will be temporarily closing their doors due to the COVID-19 virus.
According to the Puxico Police Department, all parks within city limits, including veteran and library parks, will be closed until further notice. Walking paths will also be closed.
Additionally, officials with the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission tell KWOC News that the Commission building, Ripley County Public Housing Agency, and Ozark Foothills Recycling Center, will be closed to the public.
These changes are expected to continue throughout April, unless extended due to concerns over the coronavirus.
ROAD IN POPLAR BLUFF SCHEDULED TO BE REDUCED FOR ROAD WORK
A road in Poplar Bluff will be reduced while crews perform road repairs.
According to the Poplar Bluff Street Department, the intersection of Main and 5th street will be reduced to one lane on April 13th while workers replace the bricks on the roadway.
The project is expected to be completed around April 27th.
MARK TWAIN NATIONAL FORESTS CLOSES PARKS DUE TO CORONAVIRUS
The Mark Twain National Forest has closed several parks as a response to the COVID-19 virus spread.
According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, there are several campgrounds and recreation areas that will be closed off from visitors in an attempt to slow the spread of the disease, and most gathering places will be temporarily suspended.
Trails will remain open, though visitors are urged to keep social distancing guidelines to prevent any potential spreading of COVID-19.

DRIVER INJURED FROM VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY
Injuries were reported from a vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Thursday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Missouri 153, north of Parma, where a vehicle drove off the roadway, struck a ditch, and overturned.
The driver suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash, and was transported to a hospital in Sikeston.
ONLINE PUBLIC HEARING SCHEDULED FOR RIPLEY COUNTY
An online Public Hearing is scheduled for Ripley County next week.
According to the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission, the meeting will discuss the Counties Five-Year and Annual Plans, and will be held at 10 am on Monday.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, as of Wednesday, there have been a total of 1,581 positive cases of the coronavirus confirmed in Missouri, and 18 deaths have been reported due to the disease.
Stoddard County confirmed three additional cases on Wednesday, and Pemiscot County reported one confirmed case, with all patients being quarantined in their homes. Officials with the department are working to contact anyone who may have come into contact with them.

MAN ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY AFTER EVADING POLICE CUSTODY
Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, a man has been arrested in Butler County after evading police custody.
According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 48 year old Steven Rick was taken into custody on Wednesday, and was charged with suspicion of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and resisting arrest.
These charges stem from an incident that took place on Tuesday, where Rick had fled from his vehicle during a traffic stop, and armed himself with a firearm before running into a residence in the 3100 block of Highway N.
Officials with the Sheriff’s Department initially lost him when he fled into the house. On Wednesday, he was again spotted in a silver vehicle, and was captured following a short on-foot pursuit through a wooded area, after crashing his vehicle while attempting to evade police custody again.
LOCAL LIBRARY EXTENDING CLOSING DUE TO COVID-19 CONCERNS
The Poplar Bluff Municipal Library has decided to stay closed due to the COVID-19 virus.
The Board of Trustees unanimously voted on Wednesday for the closure extension, due to growing concerns over the virus as well as the recent case of COVID-19 in Butler County. The Library will remain closed until otherwise stated.
The virtual library will be available at PoplarBluff.Org while the physical location is closed.
POPLAR BLUFF R-1 AND TWIN RIVERS R-10 EXTENDING BREAKS DUE TO COVID-19 CONCERNS
The Poplar Bluff R-1 and Twin Rivers R-10 schools have extended their wellness breaks due to growing concerns over the COVID-19 virus.
Both schools made the announcement for the extension on Wednesday, and will not be in session for the rest of the month. They are scheduled to be back in session by May 4th.
Several other schools have also decided to remain closed, with the Stoddard County schools remaining closed until April 24th, and Campbell R-2, Van Buren R-1, and Neelyville R-4 extending their breaks until the end of the month.
DEXTER BANK CLOSES DUE TO EMPLOYEES TESTING POSITIVE FOR COVID-19
A bank in Dexter has closed its doors due to two employees testing positive for the coronavirus.
Officials with the Bank of Advance tell KWOC News that the two employees were tested for the COVID-19 virus after experiencing mild symptoms, and were both quarantined to their homes after being tested positive for the disease.
The bank will be closed today through Tuesday, and the main office can be contacted during this time by calling 573-722-3517.
PORTION OF ROADWAY THROUGH NEW MADRID AND MISSISSIPPI SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION
A portion of roadway stretching between New Madrid and Mississippi Counties is scheduled to be reduced for repairs next week.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Eastbound Route 60 in New Madrid, and a section of Northbound I-57 in Mississippi, located between Route 61 in New Madrid and Route 105 in Mississippi, will be reduced while crews perform pavement repairs.
The work is scheduled to take place from April 6th to 18th, from 6 am to 7 pm daily.

BUTLER COUNTY AUTHORITIES SEARCHING FOR ARMED SUSPECT

The man was holding a firearm when he fled into the home, and after about 30 minutes, three individuals left the house, and a fourth person left the building a few hours later.
The armed suspect was not found inside the residence, and is currently being searched for.

BUTLER COUNTY CONFIRMS FIRST CASE OF COVID-19
Butler County received its first confirmed case of the COVID-19 virus on Tuesday.
According to officials with the Butler County Health Department and Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, the patient’s case was travel related, and was treated and discharged from medical care last week, pending their results.
The patient has recovered and was released from mandatory isolation, and the Health Department and Medical Center is working with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior services, and the CDC, to identify and contact individuals who were in close contact with the patient, and will monitor them for symptoms.
Additionally, all recreation playgrounds in Poplar Bluff will be closed due to concerns over the coronavirus, and will remain closed until further notice. Parks and trails will remain open.
As of Tuesday, there have been a total of 1,327 cases of the COVID-19 virus in Missouri, and 14 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.
SCHOOLS IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI EXTENDING WELLNESS BREAK
Several area schools have decided to extend their wellness breaks in a conference call on Friday due to growing concerns over the COVID-19 virus.
The superintendents of Campbell R-2, Van Buren R-1, Neelyville R-4, and the Stoddard County school districts, formally announced the break extension on Tuesday.
Stoddard County schools will remain closed until April 24th, with Malden R-1, Clarkton C-4, Holcomb R-3, Campbell, Van Buren, and Neelyville staying closed throughout the month.
Poplar Bluff R-1, Twin Rivers R-10, and Doniphan R-1 are expected to make an announcement later in the week regarding changes to their breaks.
ROAD IN RIPLEY COUNTY REDUCED FOR ROAD WORK
A road in Ripley County has been reduced while road work is being performed.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route A, from Route 21 to the Arkansas line, will be reduced to a 10-foot width until April 17th while contractor crews install barrier walls.

FILING FOR BUTLER COUNTY OFFICES FINALIZED
Filing for offices statewide and in Butler County for the primary election from August were finalized on Tuesday.
Three County offices, three state senate districts, and two state house districts will be contested.
Incumbent Butch Anderson is being challenged for eastern district commissioner by Ross DeGaris, and former County Coroner Jim Akers is facing Andy Moore for his position.
Public Administrator Sharron Payne will be facing Cheryl Baker, Marjorie Shipman, and Jeffery Darnell.
The seat for Poplar Bluff Ward 5 will be decided between Robert and Diane Smith.
State Senate for District 25 is contested by Jason Bean, Eddy Justice, Jeff Shawan, and Stephen Clarkson.
In the state house, Jeff McCormick and Andrew McDaniel have filed for District 150, and Jack Johnson, Larry Kimbrow, and Darrell Atchison will face off for District 153.
CITY OF KENNETT ESTABLISHING CURFEW IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19 VIRUS
The City of Kennett has established a city-wide curfew to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
According to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office, the decision for the curfew, as well as the decision to declare a state of emergency for the city, was made by city council members in a meeting held on Tuesday.
The curfew will limit activity and travel inside city limits from 9 pm to 6 am, will begin tonight, and will continue until otherwise stated. The state of emergency will stay in place until April 24th.
AREA MAN ARRESTED ON POSSESSION OF METHAMPHETAMINE
A Poplar Bluff man was taken into custody in Butler County on Tuesday for possession of methamphetamine.
According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 24 year old Jordan King was arrested on felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
He was also charged with possession of a defaced firearm.
Following his arrest, he was transported to the Butler County Jail.
POPLAR BLUFF ORGANIZATION OPENING PET FOOD PANTRY
A local organization will be opening a pet food pantry this week in Poplar Bluff.
The Animal Welfare Alliance will be distributing free pet food to local owners who cannot afford to buy food for their pets, and will be offering the service to residents of Butler, Ripley, Wayne, and Carter Counties.
The pantry will begin operations on Thursday, will be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 2 to 6 pm, and will be located on 950 North Westwood Boulevard.
The organization will also be accepting donations of pet food during operating hours.

They are being treated by a small number of caretakers equipped to handle the conditions of COVID-19, as a means to stop the potential spread of the virus.
Both patients are not residents of Butler County, and are not considered Butler County cases. One patient is from Dunklin County, and the other is a resident of Reynolds County.

PIEDMONT MAN CHARGED WITH STABBING MOTHER TO DEATH
Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, a man from Piedmont has been charged with the stabbing death of his mother.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 32 year old Daniel Adams was charged on Monday with felony charges on 1st degree murder and armed criminal action, after his mother was found stabbed to death in her garage.
These charges come from an investigation into the death of 57 year old Gabrielle Gamble, after authorities found her dead inside the house inside a rolled sleeping bag on Friday.
An autopsy showed that she was stabbed multiple times, and when questioned, Adams admitted to authorities that he was struck by her, then proceeded to beat and stab her to death before rolling her in a sleeping bag and cleaning the crime scene.
He is scheduled to re-appear in court on April 7th for a preliminary hearing.
FOOD DELIVERY SERVICE IN POPLAR BLUFF IN NEED OF ITEMS
A local organization which has been working to assist senior citizens during the coronavirus situation is in need of items.
The Deliver Hope Program, headed by the Northside Nutrition Center and several local churches, has been delivering both hot and frozen meals, as well as meal packs, to senior citizens in the area, and performs constant wellness checks by phone to ensure the residents’ health and safety.
Currently, the program is in need of canned meat/protein, canned fruit, canned vegetables, and non-perishable milk products.

POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL DISTRICT SERVING MEALS TO CHILDREN 18 AND UNDER
The Poplar Bluff School district will be offering a food delivery service on top of their meal pickup sites.
The school will be serving free breakfast, lunch, and dinner to all children 18 and under, Monday through Friday, from 11 am to around 1:45 pm each day. Packets are also being handed out to children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade.

STODDARD COUNTY ISSUES STAY AT HOME ADVISORY, SCHOOLS REMAIN CLOSED THROUGH LATE APRIL
Stoddard County will be issuing a stay at home advisory, and the wellness break of the Counties schools have been extended.
According to Police Chief Trevor Pulley, the order was issued by the Stoddard County Commission and County Health Department. The order is not mandated, and residents are asked to stay in their home only where possible.
A stay at home order is not currently in place, and there is no ban on travel. Residents are still able to shop for food and necessities, but are advised to adhere to social distancing guidelines, and to keep all groups at or below 10 people at any time.
Schools in Stoddard County have also extended their wellness breaks due to the growing concerns over the coronavirus, and will be on break through April 24th. A full list of affected schools is available on our Facebook page.

There are now over 1,000 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus in Missouri.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, as of Monday, there are a total of 1,031 positive cases of the coronavirus in Missouri, and 13 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.
Additionally, a third case has been reported in Carter County, and two more cases have been confirmed in Dunklin County.
The patients have been quarantined, and officials with the Counties Health Departments are working with the CDC to identify and contact people who have come into contact with the patients.
CITY OF POPLAR BLUFF APPROVES TO-GO ALCOHOL SALES
The City Council of Poplar Bluff has voted to temporarily change the restriction sale on alcoholic items.
This decision comes from a meeting on Monday, which went over concerns from local businesses that are being affected by the restrictions that are in place due to the COVID-19 virus, where the council voted to allow the sale of alcohol as a to-go item, under specific conditions.
To purchase alcohol as a to-go item, it must have been purchased with a meal, a license must be provided, and it has to be carried in a transparent bag or taped container.
These changes are expected to continue until the restrictions caused by concerns over the COVID-19 virus are lifted.
DRIVER INJURED FROM VEHICLE CRASH IN RIPLEY COUNTY
A driver was injured in a vehicle crash in Ripley County on Monday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Route H, half a mile west of Naylor, where a vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned.
The driver suffered moderate injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

WOMAN FOUND STABBED TO DEATH IN WAYNE COUNTY
A man has been taken into custody after his mother was found stabbed to death in her home in Piedmont on Friday.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, a search of a home on Dogwood Lane in Piedmont found 57 year old Gamble Adams deceased in her garage with stab wounds, after her son, 32 year old Daniel Adams, had told authorities she left the house days ago.
Adams was taken into custody following a homicide investigation of the incident, and was charged on 1st degree murder, and armed criminal action.
WOMAN FOUND STABBED TO DEATH IN WAYNE COUNTY
A man has been taken into custody after his mother was found stabbed to death in her home in Piedmont on Friday.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, a search of a home on Dogwood Lane in Piedmont found 57 year old Gamble Adams deceased in her garage with stab wounds, after her son, 32 year old Daniel Adams, had told authorities she left the house days ago.
Adams was taken into custody following a homicide investigation of the incident, and was charged on 1st degree murder, and armed criminal action.
MULTIPLE CASES OF COVID-19 CONFIRMED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
There have been multiple confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Southeast Missouri over the weekend.
According to officials with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, cases have been confirmed in Carter and Stoddard Counties, and two cases have been confirmed in Ripley County.
The patients have been quarantined, and officials with the Counties Health Departments are working with the CDC to identify and contact people who have come into contact with the patients.
As of Sunday, there have been a total of 903 cases of COVID-19 in Missouri, and 12 deaths have been directly linked to the virus.
Additionally, President Donald Trump has extended the Social Distancing Guidelines to April 30th, and $2 trillion dollars has been legislated to be used as economic relief for affected workers and businesses.
Missouri Governor Mike Parson has also signed an Executive Order that will mobilize the Missouri National Guard, and will provide help and ease the burden on officials with the restrictions and regulations regarding the COVID-19 virus.
REWARD OFFERED FOR INFORMATION REGARDING ARMED ROBBERY
A cash reward is being offered on information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects in an armed robbery in Poplar Bluff.
Captain Dave Sutton tells KWOC News that officers responded to a call from a residence in the 1000 block of Delano Street, regarding a robbery that had taken place.
The residents reported that two black male suspects, one armed with a firearm and one with a rifle, forced their way into the home and threatened them, with one resident being struck in the head when they tried to stand.
The two suspects stole cash, cellphones, and several firearms from the residence before fleeing the scene.

POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCIL HOLDING MEETING TODAY
The Poplar Bluff City Council will be holding a meeting over several topics.
According to Poplar Bluff City Hall, the meeting will go over conflict of interest over previous meetings, and will discuss decisions that will temporarily suspend the waive on the limits on to-go alcohol sales.

TRIAGE TENTS BEING ESTABLISHED IN STODDARD COUNTY IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19
Triage Tents are being built in Stoddard County as a response to the COVID-19 virus.
According to officials with the Stoddard County Southeast Health Center, the tents will act as mobile hospitals, and will allow staff to triage patients who might have symptoms associated with the coronavirus.
Officials are telling residents that the tents are no cause for alarm or concerns, and are being constructed to reassure that the health of patients, and the community, are being held as the Counties highest priority.
SCAM CALLS REPORTED ON STIMULUS RELIEF CHECKS
Local authorities have reported that there are scam calls being reported regarding the stimulus relief checks.
Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department are telling residents that if you receive a call requesting your bank information, or anything involving payments for the stimulus relief checks, do not give the caller any information.
Residents are urged to not share any personal information for these calls; any check received will either be a direct deposit or mailed.
CARUTHERSVILLE DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY IN RESPONSE OF COVID-19 CONCERNS
In response to the growing concerns over the COVID-19 virus, the city of Caruthersville has declared a state of emergency.
A curfew for the city has been put in place, beginning at 7 pm and ending at 6 am daily. During this time, all residents must stay inside their homes, work places, or vehicles, and can only leave for essential needs such as buying groceries.
Additionally, any gatherings using more than one home, either public or private, are prohibited during the city’s curfew, along with any events with 10 or more people.
THREE INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN DUNKLIN COUNTY
Three people were injured in a vehicle crash in Dunklin County on Friday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle ran off the left side of County Road 527, one mile south of Senath, and struck a tree.
The driver and an occupant of the vehicle received moderate injuries, and another occupant suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. They were all transported to a hospital in Arkansas for treatment.
ROAD IN STODDARD COUNTY SCHEDULED TO CLOSE FOR REPAIRS
A road in Stoddard County will be closed today while repairs are underway.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route F, between County Roads 420 and 424, will be closed from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm today while crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway.

Factories in Poplar Bluff and Doniphan are focusing their efforts on sanitation and safety measures, such as checking employees for fever, and keeping personnel as separated as possible to keep the 6 foot social distancing rule of thumb.
Multiple local restaurants and businesses have also taken to increasing their efforts towards cleaning and disinfecting, and have adapted to online services when possible, such as online shopping and limiting the number of staff on site.
Additionally, the Police and Fire Departments of Dexter are currently closed to the public, and all city owned parks and facilities in New Madrid will be closed off from public access.
These measures are expected to continue throughout March until April 6th, unless the status of the COVID-19 virus spread escalates during this time.

THIRD CASE OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN DUNKLIN COUNTY, CARTER COUNTY CASE INVESTIGATION CONFIRMED
Dunklin County has confirmed its third case of the COVID-19 virus on Thursday.
An ongoing investigation is underway by the Health Department and Missouri Department of Health and Senior Service on anyone who may have been exposed, and the patient is quarantined at home. Dunklin County officials urge residents not to panic, and to call their health provider if you are showing symptoms.
Additionally, a recently confirmed case in Carter County was revealed to not be travel related, and was acquired inside the community, possibly in the Van Buren and Ellsinore areas. The 59 year old male patient has been hospitalized, and close contacts have been notified about the high-risk of exposure.
TWO AREA RESIDENTS INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY
Two Poplar Bluff residents were injured in a vehicle crash in Butler County on Thursday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Missouri 142, north of County Road 312, where a vehicle crashed into an oncoming car while it was attempting to make a left turn.
The driver and an occupant of the struck vehicle both received minor injuries from the crash, and were transported to a local hospital.
MAJOR DISASTER DECLARATION OF MISSOURI APPROVED
The Major Disaster Declaration for Missouri was approved on Thursday by President Donald Trump.
The request was made by Missouri Governor Mike Parson on Tuesday in regards to the spread of the COVID-19 virus, and will allow the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Public Assistance Program to reimburse eligible expenses from local governments and non-profit organizations.
Requests made by Governor Parson for federal hazard mitigation, low-interest federal disaster loans, disaster unemployment assistance, and crisis counseling are still under review.
CONFIRMED CASES OF COVID-19 IN MISSOURI PEAKS 500
There are now over 500 positive cases of the COVID-19 virus reported in Missouri.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, as of Thursday, there are a total of 502 confirmed cases of the virus in Missouri, with eight deaths that have been directly linked to the disease.
The department urges residents to practice proper hygiene ethics and measures to avoid further spread of the virus, including washing your hands often, avoiding touching your face, and keeping at 6 foot minimum distance from others.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE SEARCHING FOR SUSPECTED THIEF
The Poplar Bluff Police Department is currently searching for the identity of a male suspect.
According to the department, the male is a suspect in a theft investigation at the local Walmart, and a picture of the suspect is available on the Poplar Bluff Police Department’s Facebook page.

SERIOUS INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN DUNKLIN COUNTY
A driver was seriously injured in a vehicle crash in Dunklin County on Thursday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the driver was traveling down Route H, 5 miles north of Campbell, before running off the roadway and striking a tree.
Following the crash, he was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Cape Girardeau for treatment.

GOVERNOR MIKE PARSON REQUESTS MAJOR DISASTER DECLARATION
Missouri Governor Mike Parson has officially requested a major disaster declaration for Missouri.
The decision comes from the ever increasing spread of the COVID-19 virus, with the total positive cases in Missouri reaching 356 as of Wednesday, with eight reported deaths that are directly linked to the disease.
Of the new cases, there have been confirmed tests in Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, and Perry Counties.
SEVERAL MISSOURI COURTHOUSES LIMITING OPERATIONS DUE TO CORONAVIRUS
There are several courthouses in Southeast Missouri that will be limiting operations in light of the COVID-19 virus spread.
The Butler County Courthouse is working reduced shifts with rotating staff, and is limiting access to the building for urgent matters only. Courthouses in Carter, Ripley, Wayne, Stoddard, and Dunklin Counties are all operating with locked doors- and are limiting their work to phone calls and email.
These changes are scheduled to stay in effect until April 3rd, unless further extended due to the COVID-19 concerns.

There has been a positive test for the COVID-19 virus in Carter County.
According to officials with the County, the patient is currently hospitalized and is being monitored for fever and respiratory issues, and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is working with the CDC to identify and report to individuals who may have come into contact with the patient.

SECOND INDIVIDUAL IN DUNKLIN COUNTY TESTS POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS
A second individual in Dunklin County has tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the Dunklin County Health Department, the patient is currently quarantined at home, and is working with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to determine if anyone was exposed while the patient was in public.

STRETCH OF ROAD THROUGH NEW MADRID AND MISSISSIPPI SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION
A portion of roadway stretching between New Madrid and Mississippi Counties is scheduled to be reduced for repairs.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Eastbound Route 60 in New Madrid, and a section of Northbound I-57 in Mississippi, located between Route 61 in New Madrid and Route 105 in Mississippi, will be reduced while crews perform pavement repairs.
The work is scheduled to take place from April 6th to 18th, from 6 am to 7 pm daily.

POPLAR BLUFF DONATION ORGANIZATION ASSISTING ELDERLY
Several local churches have partnered with the Deliver Hope program to assist elderly who are in need.
The churches have partnered with the Northside Nutrition Center and Building Bonds to bring meals and assistance to elderly residents who are suffering as a result of the COVID-19 virus, including delivering fresh hot and frozen meals, collection and distribution of meal packs, and personal phone calls to ensure their safety.

POPLAR BLUFF MEDICAL CENTER RESTRICTING VISITORS DUE TO COVID-19
The Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center is restricting access in an attempt to halt the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Visitors to the hospital are being restricted starting today, with exceptions in place for parents with child patients, individuals requiring a caregiver, support for obstetric patients, and limited visitors for patients at an end of life state.
An approved designated visitor must meet one of these exceptions, and the visitor cannot be changed during a patient's stay. Additionally, the hospital is not accepting flowers, gifts, or food deliveries to either staff or patients.
TWO ARRESTED IN GREENE COUNTY ARKANSAS ON CHILD ENDANGERMENT AND DOMESTIC BATTERY
Two people were taken into custody in Greene County following an investigation by the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.
According to the department, 26 year old Alexis Murray, and 30 year old Cody Baker, of Beech Grove, were both arrested on three 1st degree charges of endangering the welfare of a minor, with Baker additionally facing three 2nd degree domestic battery charges.
These charges have been issued as a result of an investigation by officials with the Sheriff’s Department, after a babysitter reported that their three children were living in an unsafe environment, and that the children were being physically harmed.
One of the children was reported to have bruises across her arms and face, and each child had varying degrees of physical abuse.
Baker and Murray were both transported to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department following their arrests, and are currently held on a $10,000 cash only bond.
INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY
Injuries were reported following a vehicle crash in Butler County on Tuesday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Forest Service Road 3107, north of Poplar Bluff, where a vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.
An occupant of the vehicle received minor injuries from the crash, and was transported to a hospital in Poplar Bluff.
ROAD SCHEDULED FOR REPAIRS IN DUNKLIN COUNTY
A road in Dunklin County will be reduced while a pipe is replaced underneath the roadway.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route 153, from Route EE to Route M, will be reduced to one lane while repairs are underway from March 30th to April 2nd, from 6:30 am to 4 pm daily.
