MULTIPLE NEW CASES OF COVID-19 CONFIRMED IN BUTLER COUNTY

There have been several cases of the COVID-19 virus in Butler County since Wednesday.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, four positive cases of the virus were reported in Butler County, bringing the total number of cases in the County to ten. Dunklin County has also reported its tenth patient, and officials with the County’s Health Department are reminding residents to continue practicing social distancing and hygiene guidelines.

All patients have been quarantined, and the Counties’ Health Departments are working with the CDC to locate, and contact anyone who may have come into contact with the patients when they were active. If you are showing symptoms such as coughing, fever, or shortness of breath, it is recommended that you contact your primary health provider before visiting a hospital or emergency room.

As of Wednesday, the total number of positive cases of the virus in Missouri was recorded at 3,327, and 58 deaths have been reported.

Officials with the Butler County Health Department tell KWOC News, they have confirmed two new cases of COVID-19. Four cases have been confirmed over the last two days.

Local Health Department staff will be monitoring the cases and additional follow up contacts will be done. They have already received a list of people from both patients’ contacts.

This patients are self-quarantining at their homes, according to health officials. No other information will be released about the two patients.

ENHANCED RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER INCLUDING A FEW TORNADOES POSSIBLE TONIGHT IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas could see severe weather tonight.

According to officials with the National Weather Service in Paducah, a chance of thunderstorms will spread across our region later this evening and overnight.

Severe weather is possible with this system, especially across Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas this evening. The entire region is currently under an enhanced risk for severe weather.

The main hazards will be damaging winds, very large hail, but a few tornadoes may be a concern as well.

THREE POSITIVE CASES OF COVID-19 CONFIRMED INCLUDING FIRST CASE IN CLAY COUNTY ARKANSAS; TOTAL CASES REACH OVER 2700 IN MISSOURI

Three new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported, and the total positive cases of the virus in Missouri has reached over 2,700.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Butler County has reported its fourth confirmed case, Dunklin County its eighth, and Clay County Arkansas has reported its first positive case.

As of Monday, the total number of cases in Missouri has reached 2,722, and 39 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

Eighth Confirmed Case of COVID-19 Now Reported in Dunklin County

Officials with the Dunklin County Health Department tell KWOC News, they have now confirmed an eighth positive case of COVID-19.

MISSOURI GOVERNOR INSTATES STAY AT HOME ORDER

Missouri Governor Mike Parson has issued a state-wide stay at home order to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

While some businesses and workplaces will remain open, they will operate with no more than 10 people at a time, and must maintain social distancing guidelines. The order includes a requirement to practice social distancing when residents are outside their work or home, and states that individuals must stay inside their home when possible.

Reasons for leaving your home must include shopping for groceries or food, leaving for work, getting medicine, going to a bank, or riding public transports.

Health offices in Missouri, as well as the CDC, recommend wearing face masks or cloth coverings while in public settings to avoid any potential spreading of the coronavirus.

The Stay-at-home order began at midnight today, and will continue until April 24th, unless extended.

Carter County confirms first death as a result of COVID

The Carter County Health Center is reporting the first death of a Carter County resident due to COVID-19.

The resident was a 59 year old male who had underlying health conditions.

He passed away at a Springfield Hospital earlier today. He tested positive for COVID-19 on March 23, 2020. The case was not travel related.

Everyone is urged to take preventative actions to prevent the spread of all respiratory viruses. These actions include:

• Avoid social gatherings of more than ten (10) people.
• Stay home as much as possible.
• Maintain social distancing; keeping a six foot distance for other people.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
• Stay home if you are sick.

Older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions may be at higher risk for more serious complications from COVID-19. If you are experiencing fever >100.4 or cough, please stay home and call your healthcare provider. If you are experiencing shortness of breath, please call your local hospital before arriving.

FOUR NEW COVID-19 CASES REPORTED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

Confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus have been reported in Butler, New Madrid, Stoddard, and Dunklin Counties.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, New Madrid County received its first positive case, Butler County its second, and both Stoddard and Dunklin Counties have reported their seventh confirmed cases of the coronavirus on Thursday.

All four patients are currently under quarantine.

The Health Department of each County, as well as the department of Health and Senior Services, are working to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active.

As of Thursday, there have been a total of 1,834 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus, and 19 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

TOTAL POSITIVE CASES OF COVID-19 IN MISSOURI OVER 1500, 18 DEATHS REPORTED

The total number of positive cases of the COVID-19 virus in Missouri is now over 1,500.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, as of Wednesday, there have been a total of 1,581 positive cases of the coronavirus confirmed in Missouri, and 18 deaths have been reported due to the disease.

Stoddard County confirmed three additional cases on Wednesday, and Pemiscot County reported one confirmed case, with all patients being quarantined in their homes. Officials with the department are working to contact anyone who may have come into contact with them.

Officials in Stoddard County have also released a list of conditions for employees before they can return to work after being exposed to the disease, including waiting up to three days after recovering, and the disappearance of fever and respiratory symptoms.

BUTLER COUNTY AUTHORITIES SEARCHING FOR ARMED SUSPECT

Authorities in Butler County are searching for a suspect who evaded police custody on Tuesday.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that a white male jumped out of his vehicle during a traffic stop in Oglesville, before running into a residence in the 3100 block of Highway N.

The man was holding a firearm when he fled into the home, and after about 30 minutes, three individuals left the house, and a fourth person left the building a few hours later.

The armed suspect was not found inside the residence, and is currently being searched for.

TWO CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED AT HOSPITAL IN POPLAR BLUFF

There are two patients currently being treated for the COVID-19 virus at a Poplar Bluff hospital.

Officials with Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center tells KWOC News that the patients are currently under care, and have been isolated from the rest of the patients in the hospital.

They are being treated by a small number of caretakers equipped to handle the conditions of COVID-19, as a means to stop the potential spread of the virus.

Both patients are not residents of Butler County, and are not considered Butler County cases. One patient is from Dunklin County, and the other is a resident of Reynolds County.

WOMAN FOUND STABBED TO DEATH IN WAYNE COUNTY

A man has been taken into custody after his mother was found stabbed to death in her home in Piedmont on Friday.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, a search of a home on Dogwood Lane in Piedmont found 57 year old Gamble Adams deceased in her garage with stab wounds, after her son, 32 year old Daniel Adams, had told authorities she left the house days ago.

Adams was taken into custody following a homicide investigation of the incident, and was charged on 1st degree murder, and armed criminal action.

MULTIPLE BUSINESSES AND FACILITIES LIMITING OPERATIONS

There are several businesses and facilities in Southeast Missouri that are limiting operations due to concerns on the COVID-19 virus.

Factories in Poplar Bluff and Doniphan are focusing their efforts on sanitation and safety measures, such as checking employees for fever, and keeping personnel as separated as possible to keep the 6 foot social distancing rule of thumb.

Multiple local restaurants and businesses have also taken to increasing their efforts towards cleaning and disinfecting, and have adapted to online services when possible, such as online shopping and limiting the number of staff on site.

Additionally, the Police and Fire Departments of Dexter are currently closed to the public, and all city owned parks and facilities in New Madrid will be closed off from public access.

These measures are expected to continue throughout March until April 6th, unless the status of the COVID-19 virus spread escalates during this time.

FIRST POSITIVE CASE OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN STODDARD COUNTY

Stoddard County has reported in its first positive case of the COVID-19 virus.

According to the Stoddard County Public Health Center, a male patient in his early 40’s has been quarantined at his home after contracting the virus through a contact-related case.

Staff with the Center are working with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services in order to determine if anyone has been exposed through contact with the patient, and will provide guidance to anyone who is suspected of having been exposed.

Stoddard County Officials are asking residents not to panic, and to not visit any hospital or emergency rooms. If you are showing symptoms, you are advised to first contact your health provider before taking action.

Officials are also reminding residents to keep good hygiene, and to practice social distancing to prevent further spread of the virus.

POSSIBLE COVID-19 RELATED DEATH REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY

A death possibly related to the COVID-19 virus is being investigated in Butler County.

According to Butler County Coroner Andy Moore, a test is currently pending on whether or not a death reported inside Butler County is related to the coronavirus.

Information on the deceased has not been released at this time, and whether or not the individual is a resident of Butler County is being held confidential.

Health officials in Butler County say a death may be linked to COVID-19.

Due to the rumors and misinformation this press release is for complete transparency and community awareness. 

The Butler County Coroner’s Office has been notified, and is in involved with, a death involving a person under investigation for Covid-19.  As of the time of this press release, the test is pending. 

Any positive Covid-19 tests will be relayed to The State of Missouri for proper reporting and announcements. 

Out of respect for the privacy of the family, Coroner Andy Moore will not release any information about the  deceased.
