MISSOURI GOVERNOR INSTATES STAY AT HOME ORDER

Missouri Governor Mike Parson has issued a state-wide stay at home order to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

While some businesses and workplaces will remain open, they will operate with no more than 10 people at a time, and must maintain social distancing guidelines. The order includes a requirement to practice social distancing when residents are outside their work or home, and states that individuals must stay inside their home when possible.

Reasons for leaving your home must include shopping for groceries or food, leaving for work, getting medicine, going to a bank, or riding public transports.

Health offices in Missouri, as well as the CDC, recommend wearing face masks or cloth coverings while in public settings to avoid any potential spreading of the coronavirus.

The Stay-at-home order began at midnight today, and will continue until April 24th, unless extended.

INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING OFFICER INVOLVED VEHICLE CRASH

Injuries were reported following an officer involved vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Friday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on West Allis Street at North Allen Street in Bernie, where a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Allis Street, before being struck by an oncoming police car with sirens active at the intersection near Allen Street.

The officer driving the police vehicle suffered moderate injuries as a result of the crash, and was transported to a hospital in Cape Girardeau.

CITY OF POPLAR BLUFF HOLDING ON PHONE MEETING TODAY

The City of Poplar Bluff will be holding a city meeting today.

According to Poplar Bluff City Hall, due to concerns over the COVID-19 virus, as well as social distancing restrictions, the meeting will be held over phone, and will be discussing workshop items including commissions for drive-thru windows for food and non-alcoholic beverages at 2797 and 2789 Tucker Road, and 2779 Tucker Road Suites 1 and 9, as well as proposed resolutions for capital expenditures.

It will also discuss potential rezoning of property and possible annexing of certain properties.

DEATH AND POSITIVE CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

One death and two positive cases of the COVID-19 virus has been reported in Southeast Missouri over the weekend.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Butler County received its third confirmed case of the coronovirus, and Madison County reported its first positive case. Additionally, one death in Carter County has been reported due to the disease.

As of Sunday, there have been a total of 2,367 reported cases of COVID-19 in Missouri, and 34 deaths have been reported.

WRITTEN AND DRIVER ROAD TESTS IN MISSOURI SUSPENDED

Roadside and written tests in Missouri have been suspended due to concerns over the COVID-19 virus spread.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all written and driver road testing, including operator, commercial, and motorcycle testing, has been suspended at all locations until April 15th, in an effort to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

Salvage inspections and bus inspections at all locations have also been suspended until April 15th. 

POPLAR BLUFF ANIMAL FOOD PANTRY TEMPORARILY CLOSED

A local animal food pantry will be temporarily closing their COVID-19 distribution service due to low supplies.

The Animal Welfare Alliance in Poplar Bluff has been distributing free pet food to local owners who can no longer afford to buy food for their pets due to the concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus, but will be closed on Tuesday and Thursday due to low supplies.

Another distribution day will be announced when the organization acquires more supplies.

Carter County confirms first death as a result of COVID

The Carter County Health Center is reporting the first death of a Carter County resident due to COVID-19.

The resident was a 59 year old male who had underlying health conditions.

He passed away at a Springfield Hospital earlier today. He tested positive for COVID-19 on March 23, 2020. The case was not travel related.

Everyone is urged to take preventative actions to prevent the spread of all respiratory viruses. These actions include:

• Avoid social gatherings of more than ten (10) people.
• Stay home as much as possible.
• Maintain social distancing; keeping a six foot distance for other people.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
• Stay home if you are sick.

Older adults and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions may be at higher risk for more serious complications from COVID-19. If you are experiencing fever >100.4 or cough, please stay home and call your healthcare provider. If you are experiencing shortness of breath, please call your local hospital before arriving.

Third Confirmed Case of COVID-19 Reported in Butler County

Officials with the Butler County Health Department have confirmed a third positive case of COVID-19 in Butler County.

Local Health Department staff will be monitoring the case and additional follow up contacts will be done. They have already received a list of people from the patient’s contacts.

This patient is self-quarantining at home, according to health officials.

The Butler County Health Department is working with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and the CDC to identify and contact people who may have come in contact with the individual while they were infectious and will monitor them for fever and respiratory symptoms.

FOUR NEW COVID-19 CASES REPORTED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

Confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus have been reported in Butler, New Madrid, Stoddard, and Dunklin Counties.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, New Madrid County received its first positive case, Butler County its second, and both Stoddard and Dunklin Counties have reported their seventh confirmed cases of the coronavirus on Thursday.

All four patients are currently under quarantine.

The Health Department of each County, as well as the department of Health and Senior Services, are working to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active.

As of Thursday, there have been a total of 1,834 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus, and 19 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

BUILDINGS AND OFFICES CLOSING IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

More office places and buildings in Southeast Missouri will be temporarily closing their doors due to the COVID-19 virus.

According to the Puxico Police Department, all parks within city limits, including veteran and library parks, will be closed until further notice. Walking paths will also be closed.

Additionally, officials with the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission tell KWOC News that the Commission building, Ripley County Public Housing Agency, and Ozark Foothills Recycling Center, will be closed to the public.

These changes are expected to continue throughout April, unless extended due to concerns over the coronavirus.

ROAD IN POPLAR BLUFF SCHEDULED TO BE REDUCED FOR ROAD WORK

A road in Poplar Bluff will be reduced while crews perform road repairs.

According to the Poplar Bluff Street Department, the intersection of Main and 5th street will be reduced to one lane on April 13th while workers replace the bricks on the roadway.

The project is expected to be completed around April 27th.

MARK TWAIN NATIONAL FORESTS CLOSES PARKS DUE TO CORONAVIRUS

The Mark Twain National Forest has closed several parks as a response to the COVID-19 virus spread.

According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, there are several campgrounds and recreation areas that will be closed off from visitors in an attempt to slow the spread of the disease, and most gathering places will be temporarily suspended.

Trails will remain open, though visitors are urged to keep social distancing guidelines to prevent any potential spreading of COVID-19.

DRIVER INJURED FROM VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY

Injuries were reported from a vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Thursday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Missouri 153, north of Parma, where a vehicle drove off the roadway, struck a ditch, and overturned.

The driver suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash, and was transported to a hospital in Sikeston.

ONLINE PUBLIC HEARING SCHEDULED FOR RIPLEY COUNTY

An online Public Hearing is scheduled for Ripley County next week.

According to the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission, the meeting will discuss the Counties Five-Year and Annual Plans, and will be held at 10 am on Monday.

TOTAL POSITIVE CASES OF COVID-19 IN MISSOURI OVER 1500, 18 DEATHS REPORTED

The total number of positive cases of the COVID-19 virus in Missouri is now over 1,500.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, as of Wednesday, there have been a total of 1,581 positive cases of the coronavirus confirmed in Missouri, and 18 deaths have been reported due to the disease.

Stoddard County confirmed three additional cases on Wednesday, and Pemiscot County reported one confirmed case, with all patients being quarantined in their homes. Officials with the department are working to contact anyone who may have come into contact with them.

Officials in Stoddard County have also released a list of conditions for employees before they can return to work after being exposed to the disease, including waiting up to three days after recovering, and the disappearance of fever and respiratory symptoms.

MAN ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY AFTER EVADING POLICE CUSTODY

Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, a man has been arrested in Butler County after evading police custody.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 48 year old Steven Rick was taken into custody on Wednesday, and was charged with suspicion of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and resisting arrest.

These charges stem from an incident that took place on Tuesday, where Rick had fled from his vehicle during a traffic stop, and armed himself with a firearm before running into a residence in the 3100 block of Highway N.

Officials with the Sheriff’s Department initially lost him when he fled into the house. On Wednesday, he was again spotted in a silver vehicle, and was captured following a short on-foot pursuit through a wooded area, after crashing his vehicle while attempting to evade police custody again.

LOCAL LIBRARY EXTENDING CLOSING DUE TO COVID-19 CONCERNS

The Poplar Bluff Municipal Library has decided to stay closed due to the COVID-19 virus.

The Board of Trustees unanimously voted on Wednesday for the closure extension, due to growing concerns over the virus as well as the recent case of COVID-19 in Butler County. The Library will remain closed until otherwise stated.

The virtual library will be available at PoplarBluff.Org while the physical location is closed.

POPLAR BLUFF R-1 AND TWIN RIVERS R-10 EXTENDING BREAKS DUE TO COVID-19 CONCERNS

The Poplar Bluff R-1 and Twin Rivers R-10 schools have extended their wellness breaks due to growing concerns over the COVID-19 virus.

Both schools made the announcement for the extension on Wednesday, and will not be in session for the rest of the month. They are scheduled to be back in session by May 4th.

Several other schools have also decided to remain closed, with the Stoddard County schools remaining closed until April 24th, and Campbell R-2, Van Buren R-1, and Neelyville R-4 extending their breaks until the end of the month.

DEXTER BANK CLOSES DUE TO EMPLOYEES TESTING POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

A bank in Dexter has closed its doors due to two employees testing positive for the coronavirus.

Officials with the Bank of Advance tell KWOC News that the two employees were tested for the COVID-19 virus after experiencing mild symptoms, and were both quarantined to their homes after being tested positive for the disease.

The bank will be closed today through Tuesday, and the main office can be contacted during this time by calling 573-722-3517.

PORTION OF ROADWAY THROUGH NEW MADRID AND MISSISSIPPI SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION

A portion of roadway stretching between New Madrid and Mississippi Counties is scheduled to be reduced for repairs next week.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Eastbound Route 60 in New Madrid, and a section of Northbound I-57 in Mississippi, located between Route 61 in New Madrid and Route 105 in Mississippi, will be reduced while crews perform pavement repairs.

The work is scheduled to take place from April 6th to 18th, from 6 am to 7 pm daily.

BUTLER COUNTY AUTHORITIES SEARCHING FOR ARMED SUSPECT

Authorities in Butler County are searching for a suspect who evaded police custody on Tuesday.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that a white male jumped out of his vehicle during a traffic stop in Oglesville, before running into a residence in the 3100 block of Highway N.

The man was holding a firearm when he fled into the home, and after about 30 minutes, three individuals left the house, and a fourth person left the building a few hours later.

The armed suspect was not found inside the residence, and is currently being searched for.

BUTLER COUNTY CONFIRMS FIRST CASE OF COVID-19

Butler County received its first confirmed case of the COVID-19 virus on Tuesday.

According to officials with the Butler County Health Department and Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, the patient’s case was travel related, and was treated and discharged from medical care last week, pending their results.

The patient has recovered and was released from mandatory isolation, and the Health Department and Medical Center is working with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior services, and the CDC, to identify and contact individuals who were in close contact with the patient, and will monitor them for symptoms.

Additionally, all recreation playgrounds in Poplar Bluff will be closed due to concerns over the coronavirus, and will remain closed until further notice. Parks and trails will remain open.

As of Tuesday, there have been a total of 1,327 cases of the COVID-19 virus in Missouri, and 14 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

SCHOOLS IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI EXTENDING WELLNESS BREAK

Several area schools have decided to extend their wellness breaks in a conference call on Friday due to growing concerns over the COVID-19 virus.

The superintendents of Campbell R-2, Van Buren R-1, Neelyville R-4, and the Stoddard County school districts, formally announced the break extension on Tuesday.

Stoddard County schools will remain closed until April 24th, with Malden R-1, Clarkton C-4, Holcomb R-3, Campbell, Van Buren, and Neelyville staying closed throughout the month.

Poplar Bluff R-1, Twin Rivers R-10, and Doniphan R-1 are expected to make an announcement later in the week regarding changes to their breaks.

ROAD IN RIPLEY COUNTY REDUCED FOR ROAD WORK

A road in Ripley County has been reduced while road work is being performed.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route A, from Route 21 to the Arkansas line, will be reduced to a 10-foot width until April 17th while contractor crews install barrier walls.

FILING FOR BUTLER COUNTY OFFICES FINALIZED

Filing for offices statewide and in Butler County for the primary election from August were finalized on Tuesday.

Three County offices, three state senate districts, and two state house districts will be contested.

Incumbent Butch Anderson is being challenged for eastern district commissioner by Ross DeGaris, and former County Coroner Jim Akers is facing Andy Moore for his position.

Public Administrator Sharron Payne will be facing Cheryl Baker, Marjorie Shipman, and Jeffery Darnell.

The seat for Poplar Bluff Ward 5 will be decided between Robert and Diane Smith.

State Senate for District 25 is contested by Jason Bean, Eddy Justice, Jeff Shawan, and Stephen Clarkson. 

In the state house, Jeff McCormick and Andrew McDaniel have filed for District 150, and Jack Johnson, Larry Kimbrow, and Darrell Atchison will face off for District 153.

CITY OF KENNETT ESTABLISHING CURFEW IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19 VIRUS

The City of Kennett has established a city-wide curfew to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

According to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office, the decision for the curfew, as well as the decision to declare a state of emergency for the city, was made by city council members in a meeting held on Tuesday.

The curfew will limit activity and travel inside city limits from 9 pm to 6 am, will begin tonight, and will continue until otherwise stated. The state of emergency will stay in place until April 24th.

AREA MAN ARRESTED ON POSSESSION OF METHAMPHETAMINE

A Poplar Bluff man was taken into custody in Butler County on Tuesday for possession of methamphetamine.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 24 year old Jordan King was arrested on felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

He was also charged with possession of a defaced firearm.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Butler County Jail.

POPLAR BLUFF ORGANIZATION OPENING PET FOOD PANTRY

A local organization will be opening a pet food pantry this week in Poplar Bluff.

The Animal Welfare Alliance will be distributing free pet food to local owners who cannot afford to buy food for their pets, and will be offering the service to residents of Butler, Ripley, Wayne, and Carter Counties.

The pantry will begin operations on Thursday, will be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 2 to 6 pm, and will be located on 950 North Westwood Boulevard.

The organization will also be accepting donations of pet food during operating hours.

TWO CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED AT HOSPITAL IN POPLAR BLUFF

There are two patients currently being treated for the COVID-19 virus at a Poplar Bluff hospital.

Officials with Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center tells KWOC News that the patients are currently under care, and have been isolated from the rest of the patients in the hospital.

They are being treated by a small number of caretakers equipped to handle the conditions of COVID-19, as a means to stop the potential spread of the virus.

Both patients are not residents of Butler County, and are not considered Butler County cases. One patient is from Dunklin County, and the other is a resident of Reynolds County.

PIEDMONT MAN CHARGED WITH STABBING MOTHER TO DEATH

Updating a story we brought to you yesterday, a man from Piedmont has been charged with the stabbing death of his mother.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 32 year old Daniel Adams was charged on Monday with felony charges on 1st degree murder and armed criminal action, after his mother was found stabbed to death in her garage.

These charges come from an investigation into the death of 57 year old Gabrielle Gamble, after authorities found her dead inside the house inside a rolled sleeping bag on Friday.

An autopsy showed that she was stabbed multiple times, and when questioned, Adams admitted to authorities that he was struck by her, then proceeded to beat and stab her to death before rolling her in a sleeping bag and cleaning the crime scene.

He is scheduled to re-appear in court on April 7th for a preliminary hearing.

FOOD DELIVERY SERVICE IN POPLAR BLUFF IN NEED OF ITEMS

A local organization which has been working to assist senior citizens during the coronavirus situation is in need of items.

The Deliver Hope Program, headed by the Northside Nutrition Center and several local churches, has been delivering both hot and frozen meals, as well as meal packs, to senior citizens in the area, and performs constant wellness checks by phone to ensure the residents’ health and safety.

Currently, the program is in need of canned meat/protein, canned fruit, canned vegetables, and non-perishable milk products.

If you know anyone over 60 who is in need of hot meals and wellness checks, or are interested in donating, call 573-686-2074 on Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 5 pm.

POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL DISTRICT SERVING MEALS TO CHILDREN 18 AND UNDER

The Poplar Bluff School district will be offering a food delivery service on top of their meal pickup sites.

The school will be serving free breakfast, lunch, and dinner to all children 18 and under, Monday through Friday, from 11 am to around 1:45 pm each day. Packets are also being handed out to children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade.

STODDARD COUNTY ISSUES STAY AT HOME ADVISORY, SCHOOLS REMAIN CLOSED THROUGH LATE APRIL

Stoddard County will be issuing a stay at home advisory, and the wellness break of the Counties schools have been extended.

According to Police Chief Trevor Pulley, the order was issued by the Stoddard County Commission and County Health Department. The order is not mandated, and residents are asked to stay in their home only where possible.

A stay at home order is not currently in place, and there is no ban on travel. Residents are still able to shop for food and necessities, but are advised to adhere to social distancing guidelines, and to keep all groups at or below 10 people at any time.

Schools in Stoddard County have also extended their wellness breaks due to the growing concerns over the coronavirus, and will be on break through April 24th. A full list of affected schools is available on our Facebook page.

Officials with Stoddard County urge residents to not panic, and are reassuring that the advisory is in place to help protect against the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

There are now over 1,000 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus in Missouri.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, as of Monday, there are a total of 1,031 positive cases of the coronavirus in Missouri, and 13 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

Additionally, a third case has been reported in Carter County, and two more cases have been confirmed in Dunklin County.

The patients have been quarantined, and officials with the Counties Health Departments are working with the CDC to identify and contact people who have come into contact with the patients.

CITY OF POPLAR BLUFF APPROVES TO-GO ALCOHOL SALES

The City Council of Poplar Bluff has voted to temporarily change the restriction sale on alcoholic items.

This decision comes from a meeting on Monday, which went over concerns from local businesses that are being affected by the restrictions that are in place due to the COVID-19 virus, where the council voted to allow the sale of alcohol as a to-go item, under specific conditions.

DRIVER INJURED FROM VEHICLE CRASH IN RIPLEY COUNTY

A driver was injured in a vehicle crash in Ripley County on Monday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Route H, half a mile west of Naylor, where a vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned.

The driver suffered moderate injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

WOMAN FOUND STABBED TO DEATH IN WAYNE COUNTY

A man has been taken into custody after his mother was found stabbed to death in her home in Piedmont on Friday.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, a search of a home on Dogwood Lane in Piedmont found 57 year old Gamble Adams deceased in her garage with stab wounds, after her son, 32 year old Daniel Adams, had told authorities she left the house days ago.

Adams was taken into custody following a homicide investigation of the incident, and was charged on 1st degree murder, and armed criminal action.

MULTIPLE CASES OF COVID-19 CONFIRMED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

There have been multiple confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Southeast Missouri over the weekend.

According to officials with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, cases have been confirmed in Carter and Stoddard Counties, and two cases have been confirmed in Ripley County.

The patients have been quarantined, and officials with the Counties Health Departments are working with the CDC to identify and contact people who have come into contact with the patients.

As of Sunday, there have been a total of 903 cases of COVID-19 in Missouri, and 12 deaths have been directly linked to the virus.

Additionally, President Donald Trump has extended the Social Distancing Guidelines to April 30th, and $2 trillion dollars has been legislated to be used as economic relief for affected workers and businesses.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson has also signed an Executive Order that will mobilize the Missouri National Guard, and will provide help and ease the burden on officials with the restrictions and regulations regarding the COVID-19 virus.

REWARD OFFERED FOR INFORMATION REGARDING ARMED ROBBERY

A cash reward is being offered on information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects in an armed robbery in Poplar Bluff.

Captain Dave Sutton tells KWOC News that officers responded to a call from a residence in the 1000 block of Delano Street, regarding a robbery that had taken place.

The residents reported that two black male suspects, one armed with a firearm and one with a rifle, forced their way into the home and threatened them, with one resident being struck in the head when they tried to stand.

The two suspects stole cash, cellphones, and several firearms from the residence before fleeing the scene.

POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCIL HOLDING MEETING TODAY

The Poplar Bluff City Council will be holding a meeting over several topics.

According to Poplar Bluff City Hall, the meeting will go over conflict of interest over previous meetings, and will discuss decisions that will temporarily suspend the waive on the limits on to-go alcohol sales.

TRIAGE TENTS BEING ESTABLISHED IN STODDARD COUNTY IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19

Triage Tents are being built in Stoddard County as a response to the COVID-19 virus.

According to officials with the Stoddard County Southeast Health Center, the tents will act as mobile hospitals, and will allow staff to triage patients who might have symptoms associated with the coronavirus.

Officials are telling residents that the tents are no cause for alarm or concerns, and are being constructed to reassure that the health of patients, and the community, are being held as the Counties highest priority.

SCAM CALLS REPORTED ON STIMULUS RELIEF CHECKS

Local authorities have reported that there are scam calls being reported regarding the stimulus relief checks.

Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department are telling residents that if you receive a call requesting your bank information, or anything involving payments for the stimulus relief checks, do not give the caller any information.

Residents are urged to not share any personal information for these calls; any check received will either be a direct deposit or mailed.

CARUTHERSVILLE DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY IN RESPONSE OF COVID-19 CONCERNS

In response to the growing concerns over the COVID-19 virus, the city of Caruthersville has declared a state of emergency.

A curfew for the city has been put in place, beginning at 7 pm and ending at 6 am daily. During this time, all residents must stay inside their homes, work places, or vehicles, and can only leave for essential needs such as buying groceries.

Additionally, any gatherings using more than one home, either public or private, are prohibited during the city’s curfew, along with any events with 10 or more people.

THREE INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

Three people were injured in a vehicle crash in Dunklin County on Friday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle ran off the left side of County Road 527, one mile south of Senath, and struck a tree.

The driver and an occupant of the vehicle received moderate injuries, and another occupant suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. They were all transported to a hospital in Arkansas for treatment.

ROAD IN STODDARD COUNTY SCHEDULED TO CLOSE FOR REPAIRS

A road in Stoddard County will be closed today while repairs are underway.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route F, between County Roads 420 and 424, will be closed from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm today while crews replace a culvert underneath the roadway.

THIRD CASE OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN DUNKLIN COUNTY, CARTER COUNTY CASE INVESTIGATION CONFIRMED

Dunklin County has confirmed its third case of the COVID-19 virus on Thursday.

An ongoing investigation is underway by the Health Department and Missouri Department of Health and Senior Service on anyone who may have been exposed, and the patient is quarantined at home. Dunklin County officials urge residents not to panic, and to call their health provider if you are showing symptoms.

Additionally, a recently confirmed case in Carter County was revealed to not be travel related, and was acquired inside the community, possibly in the Van Buren and Ellsinore areas. The 59 year old male patient has been hospitalized, and close contacts have been notified about the high-risk of exposure.

TWO AREA RESIDENTS INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY

Two Poplar Bluff residents were injured in a vehicle crash in Butler County on Thursday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Missouri 142, north of County Road 312, where a vehicle crashed into an oncoming car while it was attempting to make a left turn.

The driver and an occupant of the struck vehicle both received minor injuries from the crash, and were transported to a local hospital.

MAJOR DISASTER DECLARATION OF MISSOURI APPROVED

The Major Disaster Declaration for Missouri was approved on Thursday by President Donald Trump.

The request was made by Missouri Governor Mike Parson on Tuesday in regards to the spread of the COVID-19 virus, and will allow the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Public Assistance Program to reimburse eligible expenses from local governments and non-profit organizations.

Requests made by Governor Parson for federal hazard mitigation, low-interest federal disaster loans, disaster unemployment assistance, and crisis counseling are still under review.

CONFIRMED CASES OF COVID-19 IN MISSOURI PEAKS 500

There are now over 500 positive cases of the COVID-19 virus reported in Missouri.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, as of Thursday, there are a total of 502 confirmed cases of the virus in Missouri, with eight deaths that have been directly linked to the disease.

The department urges residents to practice proper hygiene ethics and measures to avoid further spread of the virus, including washing your hands often, avoiding touching your face, and keeping at 6 foot minimum distance from others.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE SEARCHING FOR SUSPECTED THIEF

The Poplar Bluff Police Department is currently searching for the identity of a male suspect.

According to the department, the male is a suspect in a theft investigation at the local Walmart, and a picture of the suspect is available on the Poplar Bluff Police Department’s Facebook page.

GOVERNOR MIKE PARSON REQUESTS MAJOR DISASTER DECLARATION

The decision comes from the ever increasing spread of the COVID-19 virus, with the total positive cases in Missouri reaching 356 as of Wednesday, with eight reported deaths that are directly linked to the disease.

Of the new cases, there have been confirmed tests in Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, and Perry Counties.

SEVERAL MISSOURI COURTHOUSES LIMITING OPERATIONS DUE TO CORONAVIRUS

There are several courthouses in Southeast Missouri that will be limiting operations in light of the COVID-19 virus spread.

The Butler County Courthouse is working reduced shifts with rotating staff, and is limiting access to the building for urgent matters only. Courthouses in Carter, Ripley, Wayne, Stoddard, and Dunklin Counties are all operating with locked doors- and are limiting their work to phone calls and email.

These changes are scheduled to stay in effect until April 3rd, unless further extended due to the COVID-19 concerns.

POSITIVE TEST FOR COVID-19 VIRUS REPORTED IN CARTER COUNTY

There has been a positive test for the COVID-19 virus in Carter County.

According to officials with the County, the patient is currently hospitalized and is being monitored for fever and respiratory issues, and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is working with the CDC to identify and report to individuals who may have come into contact with the patient.

Details on the patient are being kept confidential at this time.

SECOND INDIVIDUAL IN DUNKLIN COUNTY TESTS POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS

A second individual in Dunklin County has tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the Dunklin County Health Department, the patient is currently quarantined at home, and is working with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to determine if anyone was exposed while the patient was in public.

Officials with Dunklin County are urging residents not to panic, and to keep working towards preventing the spread of the virus through proper hygiene and limited social contact.

STRETCH OF ROAD THROUGH NEW MADRID AND MISSISSIPPI SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION

A portion of roadway stretching between New Madrid and Mississippi Counties is scheduled to be reduced for repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Eastbound Route 60 in New Madrid, and a section of Northbound I-57 in Mississippi, located between Route 61 in New Madrid and Route 105 in Mississippi, will be reduced while crews perform pavement repairs.

The work is scheduled to take place from April 6th to 18th, from 6 am to 7 pm daily.

POPLAR BLUFF DONATION ORGANIZATION ASSISTING ELDERLY

Several local churches have partnered with the Deliver Hope program to assist elderly who are in need.

The churches have partnered with the Northside Nutrition Center and Building Bonds to bring meals and assistance to elderly residents who are suffering as a result of the COVID-19 virus, including delivering fresh hot and frozen meals, collection and distribution of meal packs, and personal phone calls to ensure their safety.

POPLAR BLUFF MEDICAL CENTER RESTRICTING VISITORS DUE TO COVID-19

The Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center is restricting access in an attempt to halt the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Visitors to the hospital are being restricted starting today, with exceptions in place for parents with child patients, individuals requiring a caregiver, support for obstetric patients, and limited visitors for patients at an end of life state.

An approved designated visitor must meet one of these exceptions, and the visitor cannot be changed during a patient's stay. Additionally, the hospital is not accepting flowers, gifts, or food deliveries to either staff or patients.

TWO ARRESTED IN GREENE COUNTY ARKANSAS ON CHILD ENDANGERMENT AND DOMESTIC BATTERY

Two people were taken into custody in Greene County following an investigation by the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

According to the department, 26 year old Alexis Murray, and 30 year old Cody Baker, of Beech Grove, were both arrested on three 1st degree charges of endangering the welfare of a minor, with Baker additionally facing three 2nd degree domestic battery charges.

These charges have been issued as a result of an investigation by officials with the Sheriff’s Department, after a babysitter reported that their three children were living in an unsafe environment, and that the children were being physically harmed.

One of the children was reported to have bruises across her arms and face, and each child had varying degrees of physical abuse.

Baker and Murray were both transported to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department following their arrests, and are currently held on a $10,000 cash only bond.

INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY

Injuries were reported following a vehicle crash in Butler County on Tuesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Forest Service Road 3107, north of Poplar Bluff, where a vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

An occupant of the vehicle received minor injuries from the crash, and was transported to a hospital in Poplar Bluff.

ROAD SCHEDULED FOR REPAIRS IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

A road in Dunklin County will be reduced while a pipe is replaced underneath the roadway.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route 153, from Route EE to Route M, will be reduced to one lane while repairs are underway from March 30th to April 2nd, from 6:30 am to 4 pm daily.

MISSOURI GOVERNOR SIGNS ORDER ALLOWING RESTAURANTS TO SELL UNPREPARED FOOD

Missouri Governor Mike Parson signed an executive order on Monday that allows restaurants to sell unprepared food.

According to the Governor, the order has been put in place due to the threat caused by the COVID-19 virus, and to assist businesses financially during the period of limited operation, as well as families who need food and ingredients.

The executive order will stay in place throughout March and April, and will end on May 15th, unless extended.

THREE RIVERS COLLEGE IMPLEMENTS HOME WORKING

 

Three Rivers College has implemented a work-at-home policy to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

According to the college, it closed its doors to the public yesterday, and all employees will be working from home or remote locations, with all classes being moved online.

STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED FOR STODDARD COUNTY

 

Stoddard County has officially been put into a state of emergency by County officials.

The decision was made by a vote from the Stoddard County Commissioners as a response to the COVID-19 virus spread, which voted 3-0 on Monday to put the emergency call into effect immediately, additionally closing the government building.

No cases of the virus have been reported in the County; however, Commissioner Danny Talkington tells KWOC News that the emergency call will allow emergency operation centers to be set up, and will allow funding for sanitization measures and employee payment to be acquired.

THREE ARRESTED IN RIPLEY COUNTY ON DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES 

 

There were three arrests made in Ripley County on Sunday on drug and weapon charges. 

According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, 20 year old Randy Hubbard, 25 year old Daniel Mattison, both of Doniphan, and 21 year old James Parks, of Poplar Bluff, were all arrested on a felony charge of unlawful use of a weapon. 

Hubbard was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, and both he and Parks were additionally charged on distribution of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance – amphetamine, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. 

Following their arrests, the three were transported to the Ripley County Jail.

DEADLINES FOR FILING AND LICENCES EXTENDED FOR MISSOURI

 

Several deadlines in Missouri have been extended due to the coronavirus spread.

According to the Missouri Department of Revenue, the deadline for tax filing is being extended to July 15th, and extensions for expired licenses and vehicle registrations are being put in place.

Additionally, any expirations taking place between March 1st and April 30th will be extended by 60 days.

BRIDGE IN CLAY COUNTY CLOSING DUE TO STRUCTURE DAMAGE

 

A bridge in Clay County is closed due to structure damage.

According to the Arkansas Department of Transportation, a bridge on Highway 139 has shut down due to structural damage and deficiencies found during inspection.

It is not known at this time when the bridge will reopen.

GOVERNOR MIKE PARSON ISSUES SOCIAL DISTANCING AND COVID-19 COUNTERMEASURES

Missouri Governor Mike Parson has issued several COVID-19 Countermeasures that took effect today.

The measures to prevent the spread of the virus include mandated social distancing statewide, in which all social gatherings both spontaneous and planned, must consist of no more than 10 people at any given time.

Additionally, every person in the state of Missouri must avoid eating or drinking at restaurants, bars, or food courts. Drive through, pickup, and delivery, however, are allowed.

Citizens must also avoid visiting nursing homes, long-term care facilities, retirement homes, or assisted living homes, unless it is for providing critical assistance.

Schools will remain closed, but children who qualify may still receive food and nutritional services.

GOVERNOR MIKE PARSON ISSUES SOCIAL DISTANCING AND COVID-19 COUNTERMEASURES 

 

Missouri Governor Mike Parson has issued several COVID-19 Countermeasures that took effect today. 

The measures to prevent the spread of the virus include mandated social distancing statewide, in which all social gatherings both spontaneous and planned, must consist of no more than 10 people at any given time. 

Additionally, every person in the state of Missouri must avoid eating or drinking at restaurants, bars, or food courts. Drive through, pickup, and delivery, however, are allowed. 

Citizens must also avoid visiting nursing homes, long-term care facilities, retirement homes, or assisted living homes, unless it is for providing critical assistance. 

Schools will remain closed, but children who qualify may still receive food and nutritional services.

SEVERAL POPLAR BLUFF LOCATIONS OFFERING CURBSIDE MEAL SERVICE STARTING TODAY 

 

There are several locations in Poplar Bluff that will be offering free breakfast and lunch starting today for all children under 18. 

According to Poplar Bluff R-1 Superintendent Dr. Scott Dill, multiple schools and locations will be offering a free breakfast and lunch service to families in need throughout the city. 

The locations offering the meal service include the Poplar Bluff Middle School, the O’ Neal Elementary School, Eugene Field Elementary, the Bread Shed, Wheatley School, the NorthSide Nutrition Center, Oak View Apartments at 741 East Outer Road, and the Midland Church located on 110 West Victor Street. 

One hot breakfast and one cold lunch is available for each present child from 11 am to 1 pm Monday through Friday. 

You do not need an ID or paperwork to receive a meal for your children.


TOTAL CONFIRMED CASES OF COVID-19 OVER ONE HUNDRED

 

 As of today, there are currently 106 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus in Missouri.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, the most recent cases of the virus have been recorded in Scott, St. Francois, and Perry Counties, with St. Louis and St. Louis County officially ordering mandatory stay at home guidelines to prevent the spread of the disease. 

As of Saturday, there have been three deaths in Missouri that are directly linked to COVID-19.


JOHN J PERSHING MEDICAL CENTER CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC 

 

The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center IS restricting visitors and clients. 

According to the Center, to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, they will only be seeing Veterans with scheduled appointments, and will not accept walk-ins. Only one person above the age of 18 can accompany the veteran during their appointment.

MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON WEAPON AND ASSAULT CHARGES

A man was taken into custody in Stoddard County on assault and weapon charges. 

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 22-year-old Zachery Price, of Dexter, was booked on a warrant for 4th degree domestic assault, as well as unlawful use of a weapon. 

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Stoddard County Jail on a $12,500 cash only bond.


SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE THROUGHOUT SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

There is a chance of scattered thunderstorms in the area once again this week. 

According to the National Weather Service Office in Paducah, there will be scattered thunderstorms looming over most of the surrounding area between Tuesday afternoon and again on Friday. 

The storms could escalate during this time, and residents are advised to keep an eye on their local weather service.

NORTH CAROLINA MAN DIES AFTER BEING STRUCK BY A VEHICLE IN BUTLER COUNTY

A Greensboro man was killed early this morning after being hit by a vehicle.

Butler County Coroner Andy Moore tells KWOC News that 33 year old Josh Demastus, of Greensboro, North Carolina, was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Highway C and 158 in Harviell at approximately 1 am.

Demastus was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Andy Moore.

OFFICES IN POPLAR BLUFF CLOSED FOR CORONAVIRUS SPREAD PREVENTION

A decision has been passed by the City Hall of Poplar Bluff to close all municipal utilities offices.

According to Poplar Bluff’s City Hall, all municipal utilities offices will be closed to the public in an effort to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus, and will only be available through the drive-through located at 1902 Sunset Street.

Any bills may be paid over the phone, mail, or by going online.


MISSOURI GOVERNOR CONFIRMS CLOSURE OF ALL PUBLIC AND CHARTER SCHOOLS

Missouri Governor Mike parson has announced the closure of all public and charter schools.

The announcement came from a news conference on Thursday, where he stated that all public and charter schools statewide will be temporarily closed during the COVID-19 virus situation.

As of yesterday, there have been 330 individuals tested for the coronavirus in Missouri, with 28 of those coming back positive.

THREE RIVERS CANCELS ALL SPRING EVENTS INCLUDING GRADUATION

Three Rivers College has announced that all spring semester events, including graduation, have been canceled.

According to the college, the decision for cancellation was made in regards to recommendations received from the Centers for Disease Control, and that students who are eligible for graduation will still be receiving their certificates on their official transcripts.

Students who were going to attend the ceremony can instead attend the next graduation held, and diplomas will be mailed by the end of the semester.


MAN CHARGED ON SEXUAL TRAFFICKING AND KIDNAPPING

A man from Malden has been charged on Sexual Trafficking and kidnapping.

According to the Kennett Police Department, 52 year old Maurice Henderson, of Malden, was charged on 2nd degree sexual trafficking of a child, and 3rd degree kidnapping.

These charges come after a mother reported to authorities that her 15 year old son was solicited by Henderson for sexual favors, with the child telling officials that Henderson had refused to take him to his home after picking him up from a basketball game.

The child also reported that Henderson had used methamphetamine while inside the vehicle, and that he was threatened to not speak of what transpired.

Henderson was taken into custody at his home on Edwards Street, and was transported to the Dunklin County Jail on a $125,000 cash only bond.

FIVE INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

A vehicle crash in New Madrid County on Thursday has caused five individuals to be injured.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Route HH, 3 miles south of Matthews, where a vehicle was crossing the center of the roadway before striking another oncoming vehicle head on.

Both drivers, two occupants of the crossing vehicle, and an occupant of the struck vehicle, all received minor injuries from the crash, and were transported to a hospital in Sikeston.

POPLAR BLUFF LIBRARY CLOSED UNTIL EARLY APRIL

The Poplar Bluff Municipal Library will be closed until early April due to the coronavirus spread.

All due dates are being extended until April 13th, and any overdue fees until then will be waived.

The library will be closed until April 6th, in accordance with guidelines set by the federal and state health offices, as well as recommendations by the governor’s office.

According to officials with the National Weather Service in Paducah, a chance of thunderstorms will spread north and east across our region later this afternoon and evening.

Severe weather is possible with this system, especially across Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas this evening. The region is currently under an enhanced risk for severe weather.

The main hazards will be damaging winds and large hail, but a few tornadoes may be a concern too. Locally heavy rainfall could also lead to some isolated minor flooding issues. A flash flood watch is in effect for our region through 7 am on Friday.

SCHEDULED ELECTION FOR APRIL SUSPENDED UNTIL JUNE

An executive order has been passed that will delay all Missouri municipal elections until June.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson signed the order on Wednesday, which will be postponing Missouri’s elections, which were previously scheduled to be held on April 7th, now will be held on June 2nd.

The deadline for filing as a write-in candidate is still set for March 27th at 5 pm, however the deadline to apply for an absentee ballot has been extended to May 20th.

THREE RIVERS COLLEGE SETS REMOTE CLASSES DUE TO COVID-19 VIRUS

Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff will be shifting to remote only classes due to the coronavirus.

Most classes will be out for the rest of the week, and will turn completely to online courses starting next week. The campus itself will remain open, with the Library and Tutoring center extending its weekday hours to 8 am through 8 pm.

The college has just recently recovered from a ransomware attack on February 25th, which was found to be a strain of virus that shut down most of the college’s online systems.

The investigation into the attack is still ongoing, but most of the college’s systems have been restored to working order.

FIRST DEATH IN MISSOURI REPORTED FROM COVID-19 VIRUS

Missouri Governor Mike Parson has announced the first Missouri death from the COVID-19 virus.

The Governor announced the death yesterday afternoon, reporting that the patient was from Boone County.

There are currently 24 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus in Missouri, and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services states that anyone who has come into contact with those who are isolated and showing symptoms, or if you are showing symptoms, you should contact your primary physician.

TWO ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION

Two people were taken into custody yesterday in Butler County on methamphetamine possession.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 36 year old Mitzi Moss, and 43 year old Basil Foster, were both arrested on felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Foster was additionally charged on possession of drug paraphernalia.

They were both transported to the Butler County Jail following their arrest.

MULTIPLE INJURIES REPORTED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN BUTLER COUNTY

Four area residents were injured from a vehicle crash in Butler County on Wednesday.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol report that a vehicle pulled into the path of another oncoming car on Missouri 142 – 3 miles south of Poplar Bluff.

The driver of the oncoming car, and three occupants of the traveling vehicle, received minor injuries from the crash, and were all transported to hospitals in Poplar Bluff.

ROAD IN WAYNE COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION FOR REPAIRS

A road in Wayne County will be reduced while construction crews perform repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of roadway of Route 67, between County Road 214 and Route EE, will be reduced to a one lane, 10-foot width restriction, while pavement repairs are in place.

The work will take place from March 30th to April 27th, from 6 am to 6 pm daily.

AREA RESIDENT SENTENCED TO FEDERAL PRISON ON DRUG DISTRIBUTION

A Poplar Bluff resident has been sentenced to a year in federal prison on drug distribution charges.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, Shanesha Burns was charged on three felony charges on distribution of methamphetamine, controlled substances, and heroin following an investigation by a confidential informant in July of 2018.

The informant was sold just under 7 grams of crystal methamphetamine by Burns in July, and purchased drugs from her two more times in January of 2019, one purchase made for .22 grams of Fentanyl, and one made for .47 grams of heroin.

On her release, she will be placed on a three-year supervised release period.

WAYNE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT ISSUING MEAL DELIVERY SERVICE

Officials with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department will be providing a meal delivery service to individuals in need during the coronavirus spread.

According to the department, the office will be providing meal delivery Monday through Friday for any families with children and elderly that are in need from the COVID-19 state of emergency that has been put in place.

The service will begin on Thursday, and will continue until the virus spread is under complete control. Breakfast and lunch will be delivered starting at 8 am, and pickup is also available.

15 TOTAL POSITIVE CASES CURRENTLY REPORTED IN MISSOURI

Missouri has now had a total of 15 positive cases of the COVID-19 virus.

According to the Missouri State Public Health offices, there are currently four cases in Greene County and St. Louis County, and one case in St. Louis City, and Henry, Boone, Cole, Cass, and Jackson Counties.

There have been a total of 267 residents tested for the coronavirus, with 253 of them coming back negative.

In the United States, there have been just over 5,800 total cases.

DRIVER ROAD TESTING IN MISSOURI CLOSED DUE TO COVID-19

Driver road test examinations statewide are shut down due to the COVID-19 virus spread.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all driver road testing, and all locations, will be closed throughout March 31st, but will still be holding written examinations under a restricted applicant number.

The Patrol will be keeping a monitor on the status of the virus spread, and will continue updating the situation as necessary.

TWO INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY

Two injuries were reported from a vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Tuesday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle was crossing the centerline of Route Y – south of Bell City – before being struck head-on by another oncoming vehicle.

Both drivers were injured from the crash – with one driver receiving minor and another suffering from moderate injuries, and they were both transported to a hospital in Cape Girardeau for treatment.

MEETING REGARDING WAYNE COUNTY BRIDGE PROJECTS CANCELED

A meeting scheduled to be held at the end of the month regarding two Wayne County bridge projects has been canceled.

In its place, the Missouri Department of Transportation will be holding online meetings about the projects, and will also be accepting calls for anyone wishing to ask questions or voice concerns.

Additionally, Lesterville R-4 closes today through April 6th, and Pemiscot County R-3 will be closed from March 18th through 20th, going into their scheduled spring break.

Portageville School District will also be closed from March 18th through the 27th, moving into their spring break.

HOUSE DESTROYED BY STRUCTURE FIRE IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

A house in Kennett was destroyed by a structure fire on Monday.

According to the Kennett Fire Department, authorities responded to a structure fire on North Jackson Street in Kennett, where a home was completely engulfed in flames by the time the department arrived on the scene.

No injuries were reported, and the investigation into the start of the fire is ongoing.

INJURIES REPORTED FROM VEHICLE COLLISION IN BUTLER COUNTY

There were injuries reported following a vehicle crash in Butler County on Monday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Route W – north of Poplar Bluff – where a vehicle crashed into another car while it was making a left turn.

An occupant of the struck vehicle received minor injuries as a result of the incident, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

ROAD IN CARTER COUNTY SCHEDULED TO CLOSE

A road in Carter County will be closing while crews perform repair work.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, two sections of Eastbound US 60 in Carter County, one between County Road 163 to Route J, and one between County Road 143 to Parson Drive, will be closed while crews perform pavement overlay.

The work is scheduled to take place from March 23rd to April 30th, from 7 am to 7 pm daily.

POPLAR BLUFF POLICE IMPLEMENTING SOCIAL DISTANCING

The Poplar Bluff Police Department will be implementing a social distancing measure in regards to the COVID-19 spread.

Officials with the department tell KWOC News that to help stop the spread of the coronavirus, officers will be keeping their distance from residents, and will avoid physical contact as much as possible.

Officers may ask individuals to step outside of their homes in the event of a call to their residence.

Residents who are quarantined and wish to make a non-emergency call can call the department at 573-785-5776.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY

A driver was injured from a vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Monday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that a vehicle struck the end of a bridge on old Highway 60, near Dudley, before becoming airborne and landing in a ditch.

He suffered moderate injuries as a result from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

SHOWMAN SHOWDOWN FOR CLASS 4 AND 5 BASKETBALL CANCELED

The upcoming basketball showdown for Class 4 and 5 basketball has been canceled.

This decision comes from growing concerns about the spread of the COVID-19 virus, and was backed by both school members, as well as officials on local and state levels regarding recent CDC gathering limitations.
